(upbeat music) - Hello everybody out there in Disc Golf Land. I'm your host, Marty P, and welcome to Disc Golf Daily's Tournament Primer for the 2024 Leadstone Open. In the next five minutes, we're gonna cover everything you need to know about the upcoming Elite Plus series event, which runs August 1st through August 4th. If I could only watch one tournament this year, it would be Leadstone. Over the years, Leadstone has delivered excellent entertainment with all-star talent and a huge purse to compete for. As for this year, we're back in Peoria, Illinois, the former host of this year's Champions Cup at Northwood Black. For this event, the women will be playing just south of Peoria at Sunset Hills Disc Golf Course, while the men play just east of the city at Lake Eureka Disc Golf Course. For many players, this will be a short week and the first stop back in the US from the European tour. Run by Tournament Director Nate Heinold, this year's event projects nearly 6% growth in player participation from 193 to 204. Last year's purse of $130,000 ranked among the highest of the season, and this year should be no different. Previous winners of the event include Missy Ganon on the MPO side who finished 16 under against a median field rating of 943, and Cole Radallin on the MPO side who shot 36 under against a median field rating of 1010, even with Ricky Wysocki opting out of the event, the strength of field varies little from last year. The weather forecast shows scattered thunderstorms Thursday and Friday with temperatures in the mid-80s and wind moving southwest at 11 miles per hour. Saturday and Sunday, however, promise sunny weather with temperatures in the high 80s. Let's take a look at the competition and finishing holes on the MPO side. The feature card for day one has last week's winner and defending champ discrafts Missy Ganon, teammate Holland Handley, discmanious Ella Hanson, and DGA's LES Rada Mitling who placed second at the Des Moines Challenge. On to the finishing holes. Compared to last year's event, the finishing holes at Sunset Hill presented only a few players with birdie opportunities, as 70 to 80% of the field had a settle for par or worse. I expect this year to be no different with birdies at a premium down the stretch. On the MPO side day, once feature card had last week's second place finisher, discrafts Paul Macbeth, teammate Anthony Barellent, discmanious Ganon Burr, and defending champ DGA's Coler Dallen. Compared to last year, the finishing holes at Eureka Lake challenged players with three birdie or die opportunities on 15, 16, and 17. Hole 18 ranked among the tougher holes last year, however, players with accuracy were rewarded. Where and when to watch? The disc golf network will be providing live coverage of the event starting at 10 a.m. Eastern for the FPO and 4 p.m. Eastern for MPO. If you can't watch it live, Joe Masspro will be providing next day post-round coverage. And if you can't watch, remember disc golf daily's Monday tournament wrap-up will have you covered. That's it for this episode. Stay tuned for next week's episode when we head south to Burlington, Kentucky for the LWS Open at Idlewild. Until then, I'm Marty P with disc golf daily, reminding you to smash that like and subscribe. And have a great round. (upbeat music) Thank you so much for watching.
