[MUSIC PLAYING] This is Bears Friday. Bears Friday. Here comes the blow. Rip it on the draw, the middle of Herbert. Makes a man miss. Run's left to the 30 and an ankle tackle. Puts him down near the 28. Johnson out to left side with Pettis to the right, with Swain snap back, with good protection. Throw it to the end jump. Coming open. Kyle and Johnson left side. Touchdown, baby. Touchdown, Bears. Here comes the Heat as Ripon throws down the right side. Line up in the air. Kyle and Johnson, the catch. Inside the 35 yard line. Nicely done to the 33. Here's Keenum from center, heading up the right side. And Carl Jones lays the hammer down. How do UCLA with a 5-0 on his back of yard loss? Shot, got snapped to Ripon. Gonna jerk it. Whoa, part to the end jump. Touchdown wide open. Kyle and Johnson left side. That's a pitch and catch. Touchdown, Bears. Here comes the ball, the ball. The Chicago Bears. They win against the Houston Texans 21 to 17. You heard it right here on the home of the Bears. ESPN 1000. Welcome in. Along with David Kaplan, Jonathan Hood with you. We've got Shea. We've got Jaymore. We've got you here on this Bears Friday. 3, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 3, 7, 7, 6, our phone number. Captain's just going to see football back to be able to hear it on ESPN Chicago. And again, I like the idea of 2 and 1/2 quarters of exhibition football. We didn't get all four. I was going to be up. I was fine with that. I was fine with the rain delay and then the washout. That was enough football for me. Good enough. So got home from coaching my fifth grade team. We moved to 6-1. Thank you. And I put the game on like it's live. Got the phone faced on. I can't see any of the alerts. I'm good. I'm watching. And then it-- oh, you have a weather delay. The game is going to be canceled the rest of it. Good. And Buddy's of mine who bet the Bear plus the points and the over? All tickets null and void. You've got to play 55 minutes of an NFL game for it to count. You gave a winner yesterday because I think you had the over. I did. I bet the over. It was just 37. Null and void. I think it's throwing a half. You gave everyone the over yesterday. I liked the over. And when they got seven nothing Houston, 10 nothing Houston. Uh-oh. 10-7. Oh, 17. Here come the Bear, 17-14. There's my winner. And then it gets rained out. But it's OK, Cap, because we saw enough highlights to be able to be associated for a week. Because we saw Colin Johnson with two touchdowns, three receptions, good 56 yards. And also the backup quarterbacks. Tyson Beijing, who I want to see a little bit more of, quite frankly. And Mark's kid Brett. Brett Rippen. That was very, very good. Three touchdowns for him. And Matty Biflous gave his thoughts on the game. The one thing in this game, I know it sounds, you know, obviously basic, but is to have the substitutions right. Make sure that we have the guys out there are supposed to be out there who were supposed to see the number of plays that we want to see guys play in. You don't want to put a certain player in harm's way for too long. So we did a really good job with that communicating that. And what I noticed was the offensive staff being the first time together, the communication. I thought that was outstanding the whole night. The way they operated when they were not on the field with the players, you know, and the way they operated in the halftime was really good. And then during the game when they were on the field, and they did a great job communicating, working together. And some of those guys have worked together before. But it's a new group. And I thought they did a really good job with that. So the Bears go on to victory in their first game. And if you watch the game or if you missed it, Cap and I are here to tell you that those conditions in Canton were not very good as far as the surface is concerned. I know that the storyline this week here on ESPN Chicago, because I think we're divided. Cap and I and Waddle and Yurko and Sylvie think harm a little bit as well, the feeling that you had to see the ones yesterday. No one has called us so far through two hours of our broadcast to say, I really missed the ones. I'm pissed that we didn't see the ones. If you watch that surface, Cap, the way that surface was, I'm glad the ones weren't out there because there were some turf monsters in Canton. - You and I, yeah, right, you mentioned everybody here. You and I did not want to see Caleb out there and the ones. Correct? - That's right. - I know that's how I felt you felt the same way. And I know Tommy and Sylvie and Carmen Yurko had a different perspective, which they're obviously entitled to, but when you see the conditions, everyone would be what you just said. An agreement. Thank God we didn't have any of our major assets out there. - I get it that people are anxious to see what the operation looks like. I understand that. But there are four preseason games, not three. If the Bears started against Buffalo on the road in preseason, you'd see the ones out there for a series or two or whatever. - You will next set it. - You will see it. And again, you're playing the Texans in week two. Why do you want to put anything out there whatsoever? Nothing. I don't want them to be able to look at that tape and go, "Oh, here's what Caleb does." No, nothing. - I just don't want the narrative to be after that first game against the Titans. If the Bears win, if they fall short and Caleb doesn't look spectacular, if he only played that first game against Houston, that would have made the difference. Stop. - Exactly. - That's not the difference between winning a loss. You just want to make sure that everyone's caught up to speed. Hey, even Troy Ekman, a Hall of Famer said he would have liked to see the ones out there for the Bears yesterday. But it's only because those are old school veterans that play at a high level that they're used to being out there for four games. Hell, I've been out there for multiple quarters back in those days, Cap. When York says it, when Waddle says it, when you see Ekman say it yesterday, I get it, 'cause that's their experience. They only speak to what they know. - Correct. - They're already all those games. But again, the NFL's changed in that regard, where you don't see the ones out there for full throttle for a quarter in the preseason. It's just, it's not how things operate now, that's all. - Just get him his reps in the next two games and then they can decide. - Oh no. - Okay, go ahead. - Nope, I'm not going there. Being at a street side studio, you see some unbelievable things. - Yes, go right ahead, sir. You were saying. - No, but the bear, you were saying about the bear. - Yeah, the bear, yes. - Just get him his reps the next two preseason games that make the determination what you're gonna do in the case again. I did not need to see him or the ones out there last night. Keenan Allen would have gained nothing being out there last night, nothing. I don't need to see DJ Moore out there and then somebody slips, oh boy. - Yeah, we've got, he's out six weeks. What did we hear yesterday called Tyler Ocky? And said, hey, tell Sylvie 'cause he was talking bears right at that moment before they went to the pregame. I just got an alert from some thing down in Tennessee that I follow, DeAndre Hopkins just hurt his knees out four to six weeks. Probably won't play against the bears. They're gonna hope that they could try and get him back by then. But he's on the shelf with a knee injury. Dude, we don't need that in our life. - No. - We do not. - No, hopefully they could be blessed with great health. It's something we have not talked about and that is the Bears and Texans as teams. Many look at the Bears and say, why can't the Bears be what the Texans were last year? Can we out of nowhere where they had so much, so many issues in that organization. So many issues, Cap, you know, shuffling around your head coaches, your personnel, all that. And just in one season, things turned around in a great way for the Texans. Got a brand new head coach, got a quarterback that you can love. You saw CJ Stroud dancing around the sidelines, rooting on his teammates. And so the hope is, I think, for Bears fans is for the Bears to be that Texans team that comes out of nowhere. Here you come. You're in the playoffs, have an opportunity to grow. Aikman talked about that yesterday on the broadcast on TV. - You know, the Bears, you look at them, Joe, and all they have to do is look across the field at the Houston Texans and know that everything's right out in front of them. And anything can happen because a rookie quarterback last year in CJ Stroud. DeMico Ryan's comes in, of course is a first time head coach, new offensive coordinator. They were able to just get a, you know, some career performances by some young players, but CJ Stroud is the guy who made it happen. And they win a playoff game, they win the division, a lot of good things to build on as they go into this year. And all that can happen to Chicago. I mean, they have that type of roster. And obviously a lot of it will hinge on how well Caleb Williams plays as a rookie. - Troy Aikman doing color on the TV side on ESPN. - Yeah, it was cool. He had his Hall of Fame jacket on. Just to hear like a different like outside Chicago, national perspective. And for whatever number of hours I set, they're watching like everybody else to hear that Rosie optimistic picture they painted of where our favorite football team is headed. I loved it. - Loved it. When Kevin Warren and Ryan Polls were on there for their interview together, I'm like, okay, let's go. Like we look like a professional football team. - The operation looks competent. - Correct. - 'Cause it is competent, quite frankly. - Correct. - Yes, 'cause it is. Kevin Warren, we're not gonna play this sound because what he said on the TV is what we've already heard before. He played both, both shige. - Yeah. - 'Cause I'm both shige. He was talking about the city and on my eyes and heights. - And he talked about how the greatest piece of real estate in the country is right on the lakefront here. Where the beautiful lake and the whole area in the museum campus come together with hopefully a new football team. But we're also the largest landowner in Arlington Heights. And we're gonna make the best decision, blah, blah, blah. Just build paradise in Arlington Heights, please. - I'm glad that Joe Buck asked the question. - Let's rein delay theater, so why not? Just bring that up and bring that conversation into it. Got no problem with that at all. - And then please play again 'cause it's football porn for 10 seconds of triagment. He will throw for easily more than 4,000 yards. - And we talked about the weapons that he's going to have. I think if Caleb Williams can stay healthy, I do believe he'll throw for well over 4,000 yards and he's gonna bring something to this team to bed take. - Three, one, two. Wow. - Oh, thanks a lot, Jesse. - Help, Craig. - I'm still jumping in. That's hot. - Easily throw for more than 4,000 yards. Love, love, love, love it. - For show. - 3, 1, 2, 3, 3, 2, 3, 7, 7, 6, is our phone number Detroit, Michigan, listening on the ESP in Chicago. Up here's Kevin on Captain Jay Hood. Kevin, good morning. - Hey guys, I'm a first generation Bears fan of about 40 years here in Detroit. And I'm very excited about the same time. You see Kevin Warren and Ryan Polls do an interview with Aikman and Bach, and what has they done, really? The team has won 10 games in two years, and I just, the offensive lines and issue, and I just wanna caution everyone for the sake of our mental health. It's probably not a great thing to expect, you know, great things this year. I think it's gonna be more of a building year. Maybe we win eight, nine games, but some of the hype I think is getting out of control. - So I would say probably not watching them and Kevin until they're good, that's what I would do. Just shut it off. What do you think? - So I'm not allowed to have a contrary opinions because I'm not buying the hype. - Well you didn't say that. We didn't say that at all. - But you did though, by saying don't watch the games, in other words, you're saying, well, you know, if you don't see it my way, then I just think that we've seen this before, 2014. - No, you've never seen this. - We have seen this. - You have not, never seen. We had better weapons in 2014. - No, we did not. - Man, forte is not better than Deondair Swift, better offensive line. Allison and Jeffrey is one of the best receivers in the league. I mean, we've seen this before. - What league was he the one of the best receivers in? They had a horrible club house. They had a horrible head coach. They had a horrible general manager. - Look at the numbers. He was one of the best receivers in the league that year. - That locker room was polluted. The head coach was incompetent. The GM was worse. That team had no shot. They were not better than this team. And the hype was not there. - The hype was the same, though. - No, it was not. It was not. - Okay, all right. - It absolutely was not. And they've never had the number one pick taking what everyone has said is the best quarterback prospect in two decades. They have never, ever been in this position. Come on, Kevin. - I look, Cap, I'm a big fan. I like you guys a show, but just, I would just pause the breaks a little bit. But I really like you guys, but for luck. - We appreciate you, Kevin. Have a great weekend, man. - What I'm saying to you, Kevin, is that if you're so concerned with the hype, then you probably shouldn't watch. Ultimately, it's not about hype. It's about how you feel as a fan. And what I'm saying is, is that if you feel, if you are pessimistic about the Bears because you have to see it, I get it. I'm with you. We all have to see it. However, it's still not gonna stop me from applauding Ryan Poles for building it to where it is right now. Remember where they were several years ago and look at the roster now. No, we have not seen this before. No, we have not seen a general manager in this city, build an offense and say I got a rookie quarterback and I've got three wide receivers at the ready. I have an extra tight end. I brought in a clown car of offensive lineman. Now again, it all has to work together. But the idea that, well, I'm just gonna just sit here and just watch and just pause the break. It's not about hype. If you listen to everyone else's hype, you'll never be a good fan. It's about how you feel. If you're pessimistic, that's fine. But just because someone else says they're not sure, that doesn't mean that that's how you have to feel. You fan how you want a fan. But I'll be watching and supporting. - And I will be out there. (applause) I'm gonna get myself in trouble. I won't say it. I will just be me. I learned my lesson. I've said that to you a billion times. You fan how you want a fan, Kevin. If you want to sit in the darkness, be afraid of what might be coming because you're afraid what might not be coming, that's you, me? - I'm all in, baby. Let's go. (applause) - The 2014 team went five and 11. That 2014 team was horrible. That's Jimmy. Oh, I remember 2014. Brandon Marshall's on this team. - Correct. - Ah, that was Brandon Marshall and Jesse. And I, we were at FitSpeed, probably closed now in Northbrook. They're broadcast from FitSpeed in which Brandon Marshall leaned over during one of the commercials and say, can you talk up Jimmy Clausen for me? Why would I do that? - 'Cause he could be our quarterback. - He could be our quarterback. I'm not doing that. Jay's your quarterback. You want me to talk up Jimmy Clausen the backup? He hasn't had a snap yet. I'm not doing that, Brandon. But thanks. I know what I'm doing over here. - Weird, right? - That was the same that you're exactly right. Then in Clausen that up starting one game, he was horrible. - Yes. - Trespin got fired and Lance told us they were in the locker room and Brandon Marshall started in on some, you know, he's yelling at the team and let's pick up his jacket. He goes, I've heard this before. Put it on and walked out. - Yeah. - It was horrible. - Horrible. - The team was a train wreck from day one. - Don't worry about it. Don't worry about someone else's hype. Just worry about how you feel. I've never been influenced by what the TV tells me. What the TV tell? I got two eyes. I know how the organization's going. It's on an upward trend. Now they got to win games. That's all. - Game on, let's go. - More on the Bears with Courtney Cronin. Next on Captain Jay Hood. - Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitter at ESPN1000. Cap and Jay Hood are back. - On ESPN Chicago. Chicago's home for sports. - Keep your beak out of this. - Click, click on me, Cronin. National Chicago Bears reporter for ESPN. - You have to temper expectations. If you are a Bears fan, just given everything that this team had to kind of undo. - Breaking down the Bears and the latest NFL storyline. - Polls was given the flexibility and the freedom to take this thing down to the ground floor, down to the studs, to be able to build it back up. - Courtney Cronin with Captain Jay Hood on ESPN1000. Chicago's home for sports. - We're talking Bears on a Bears Victory Friday on the Captain Jay Hood Morning Show. And now it's time to go to the Hotline. - That'd be the Car X. - Hire. - And on a hotline. - Rattle, rattle, thunder, batter, boom, boom, boom. - Out of this, we'll be called the Car X. - Good morning, Courtney, how are you? - I'm great, guys, how are you? - We're awesome, how was your birthday? - Oh, it was great. Spent it in Canton and I just dried off from last night. So it was, got to see some semblance of football. I mean, what more could you want? - Would you like to go and be with us in voting for two and a half quarters, less than three quarters of exhibition football? We think this should be a standard. - Yeah, we're running clock, like at the bare minimum running clock in the second half. - That's totally fine. - I get why they had to let the rain delay play out for 35 minutes, you know, based on lightning and everything else. But there was no doubt in my mind that we were not seeing anybody go back on the field last night after the, like sheets of rain started pouring down on Tom Benson Stadium. There was just, there's no rhyme or reason to doing that. And the fact that this thing was delayed with three minutes and 21 seconds, or 31 seconds remaining in the third quarter, can you imagine if they would have brought them back out there at like 11 o'clock and worked on with the first preseason game at 12.30? 'Cause I would have left early. I'll tell you that. - Well, those of us that had money on the over that had cashed already and didn't get paid out were not happy. - Yeah, I heard that like the betting markets had something to do with that. I can either confirm nor deny about the-- - 55 minutes you have to play. - True about it, but that's not. - That's the rule. - That's the rule. You have to play 55 minutes for a game to be official. - One of the stories that I'm interested in, Courtney, is the running back spot with Khalil Herbert and Roshan Johnson. So what did that, that game yesterday say about Khalil Herbert and his future? - You know what, I don't know if he was, I talked to him after the game. He's gonna play any opportunity. He's never gonna say like all I wasn't expecting to play last night. I was gonna starter here before I've gotten starter rep, but this is a full on battle for the RB2 spot. And when I was previewing this, going into the season, writing my 53, going through the projections, this was one I zeroed in on between him and Roshan Johnson. And we saw Johnson get the start last night and then they were rotating every other series where it'd be Khalil Herbert getting in there and then jump back to Johnson and seeing the first that Khalil Herbert has, I think it's a really good sign coming off that ankle injury that that's not something he's thinking about too much. He said that he trained, did a lot of like track stuff in the off-season to train. So he feels comfortable physically with where he's at, but he also knows, I mean, they brought in DeAndre Swift for a reason as what we've seen from him and as a pass catcher and as a running back. Like he's got the pole position. He's the starting running back in this offense and everything beyond that now is up for grabs. So this one will be really interesting to watch over the next couple of preseason games to see who ends up getting out in the lead. But I thought for Khalil Herbert to set up that first Colin Johnson touchdown with the 19 yard run and then the nine yard run, it was a good showing to show that there is no, like he didn't lose a step because of the injuries that he's had, but we'll have to see too, how he looks in past protection 'cause that has been a weak link in his game. - So you were on the other day and I'm trying to think who you were on with where the discussion was, is there too much expectation being put? Do you remember that interview on TV? - I can't remember anything that I did five minutes ago, but I'm sure I said something about it. - So I feel like if they don't have a real, if Caleb doesn't throw over 4,000 yards, I will be very disappointed. Troy Eggman said last night, he will easily go over 4,000 yards if he stays healthy. - Do you feel like this team, there's too much expectation for people like me and many of the fan base or no, this is deserved and this is what comes with all the talent they've got? - Yes and no, like I'll say the no part is because the people who are, I know exactly what you're talking about, I did this an hour ago on Get Up, we were talking about the expectation in light of what CJ Stroud did last year. Anybody who's saying that Caleb Williams had any of their rookie coming in, that that's the new bar, that was an anomaly. I really don't believe that we're gonna start seeing seasons like that from rookie quarterbacks every single year from here on out. However, the other side of that with Caleb Williams and the expectations in Chicago, the bar's low, they've never had a 4,000 yard passer, the rookie quarterback bar is like 2,193 passing yards and 11 passing touchdown. Those are numbers that he should hit pretty easily and I'm not trying to like simplify what it's like to be a rookie quarterback and have to learn how to do this at a pro level going from the college game to the NFL, but those are figures that should be manageable because we're expecting the passing offense to take off. Like look at Justin Fields three years in Chicago, he threw for over 300 yards one time. You know how many times CJ Stroud did that last year? It was like nine, the bar was so low for where Fields was, for where Mitchell Trubisky was, for where other rookie quarterbacks and young quarterbacks have been in all senses in Chicago because everything was played, the expectation, the weight was placed on other facets of the team because of the inefficiencies, because of the deficiencies at the quarterback position. You take those excuses away from the quarterback position then that raises expectation for what you want to get and what you expect to get out of Caleb Williams as a rookie. Does that mean that he has to be on a team that wins 10 games and gets a wild card spot and goes to the playoff? Not necessarily, but how about just competent quarterback play? Seriously, like how about not a disconnect between the offensive coordinator and the quarterback and where coaching is getting blamed for why it'd be offense doesn't look good and they're trying to force somebody into doing something that they're not comfortable or capable of doing, usually based on what we know about Caleb Williams about this offense, those factors should not be an issue this year because of the upgrade they have at that position, which raises the expectations in their own right. Courtney Cronin with us talking bears on the Captain Jhood Morning Show to the phone lines we go. Mike in Willow Springs on Captain Jhood. Mike say hello to Courtney. Courtney, good morning. I have a question for you guys. In general, about Austin Booker the D.N. More of a comment, really. I was a Rams fan last year. My nephew played for them. So I follow him very closely. They picked a guy in the fifth row by the name of Pooka Nakua, who, if the draft was held over again, would have been a top 10 pick. They were very, very, very fortunate to hit pay dirt there. And also, and I'm not comparing the situation, but I believe Richard Jett was a very, very late round, maybe even ninth round at the time when they had nine rounds. Correct. My point is, God help us, if they hit on this Austin Booker, I think the defensive end is the second most important position on the field. And it's not just sack, sack, sack. It's, can you play the run? I.E. Montes sweat. If they hit the lottery and they hit goals, he really didn't address the position, so to speak, right? But if they hit the lottery, that's going to accelerate this team into the upper X line, in my opinion, because of the weight of the position. So I'm rooting for the kid. What do you think of him? Courtney, what do you think of Austin Booker? You know, for him to come out last night and have the, you know, he hit the quarterback. He did exactly what Eric Washington wanted him to do. And that's a good sign. They can use him a lot of different ways in knowing how productive he was as a guy coming off the bench at Kansas last year after transferring from Minnesota. That sort of stuff is more than just scheme and the defense that he's in and their rush plan. A lot of that's on him, too, and the approach that he takes in the games, knowing that he's gotten some reps with the ones with their quality reps for him, opposite to Marcus Walker, Montes sweat. I could see him contributing early on. Does that mean he's going to be the starting defense event on the opposite either of those guys? No, not necessarily. But certain packages, third downs, various situations where they want to play the run and might want him in that role. Yeah, absolutely. I think that, you know, for a fifth mile pick, there's a reason that they traded back into the draft to go get him. They saw the potential there, high ceilings for a player who has the length, the measurables, the size that the Bears covet upfront with their pass rushes, you know, the arrows going up for him. And, you know, he had a good debut last night. We'll see what he-- I mean, they were pretty vanilla on both offense and defense, but also, like, with some of the defensive looks that they were not showing. When they start showing those looks, probably not in brief season, but closer to the regular season, that'll be a chance for him to, you know, prove that he can be this quote-unquote sleeper that he called themselves. Courtney, in terms of the way things are being run around there, from-- we were discussing this with a car from Detroit who said, "Just pump the brakes. It's too-- everybody's over to the top on this." I looked at-- like, I talked to someone who said, "The champagne in the locker room." And they announced DJ's extension. Everybody was mobbing him. He said, "I've never seen, like, a culture change the way things have been built by Ryan Polls in-- with this particular team. It just seems like last night's broadcast. I know you're working the game. Hoodie and I are watching the game going, this is like a three-and-a-half-hour infomercial about how awesome things finally are in Chicago. Are you feeling that same exact vibe that everything's changed? I mean, it can't be any worse. It's like the bare minimum cannot be any worse than it was the last two years. But they went through hell to get here, to this point. And they had to, that was by design, to pair down the roster, to go through it the hard way, which Ryan Polls, Matt Evers-Looce, they didn't know whether they'd have the time to see this thing through. They went about it that way, and they lucked out that the moves that they made, some very prudent, some worked out, some did not. But that the timing of all of it ended up working in their favors. So I can understand when you hear Ryan Polls, Kevin Warren, talking with the broadcast booth during the rain delay, and hearing from guys on the sideline of why vibes are so high right now, because they're talent. Like, you know, Caitlyn Kaler's story that she wrote for ESPN.com last week about the change in Matt Evers-Looce and the perception that he's much different in his press conferences. And, you know, handling things a little bit better than he did, you know, when they were losing a lot of games. I talked to a league source about that, just kind of getting their opinion on it. And they're like, yeah, when you have good players, when you have security, or at least know that like, you know, your back's not against the wall in one season, things are gonna feel different. You're gonna come across differently. You're gonna feel more confident. And that's reflected in how this team is perceived, perceives itself internally, but also externally, just with how we look at the Chicago Bears, what we think year three, now moving beyond the rebuild into this next phase, like what that holds for the future. And that's a good spot to be in, because they went through the hard part. To get to this point. And now they can kind of start cashing in on the goodwill and hard work that they built up to get here. - Courtney, have a great weekend. We'll talk to you on Monday. - Thanks guys, take care. - Appreciate you. Courtney Cronin, Karak, Tyre, and Adoha. (beeping) - Here's to D's headline, headline with Captain J. Hood. - Bears won the Hall of Fame game, rain shortened. So if you bet on it, your ticket is null and void. NFL games must go 55 minutes for a wager to be official, but they do win a 21-7 team, Brett Ripon, the offensive star along with Colin Johnson, the wide receiver, as he battles to make the club. He was on the practice squad a year ago. Next up, a game against the Buffalo Bills, a week from tomorrow, Caleb Williams, and the starters are expected to play in that one. Cubs walked off the Cardinals, baby. Any night, I don't care where you are in the standings, but you can beat the dead birds and walk them off and beat their all-star closer. It's a good night. - Yeah, it's about time that you came through in the bottom of the night. So first time all season, you've come through in the ninth. - Down multiple runs. - Yes. - Yes. - Down two or more runs. - Correct. - Good, nice job. - Five, four, final. Dansby Swanson, the hitting star last night. Cody Bellinger, a ninth inning home run, a Mike Talkman walked it off against the Cardinals, all-star closer. Two teams back at it at 1.20 today at Rigby Field, Eric Fettie, recently acquired from the White Sox, will pitch for St. Louis. White Sox got the day off back at it in Minneapolis tonight. They have lost their last 17 in a row, and... - Who knew? - We will have the Friday folder coming up next. Chaimo, the Chicago group. - Follow Chicago's home for sports on Twitch at ESPN 1000 Chicago. - Captain J. Hood are back on Chicago's home for sports. ESPN Chicago. - You know this, Bob. - It's time for the Friday folder. - Anything else you do? - On the Captain J. Hood show. - Oh my God. - I'm hit, too. - That's time for the Friday folder, here on the Captain J. Hood Morning show. On ESPN 1000, and the folders brought to you by... - That would be Loom Almaty, since the Friday is... The great Chris Black would tell you, Friday is a pizza night. Black recommends the pepperoni pizza, but he goes with the low fat cheese, not 'cause he wants to go low fat, because he likes to taste better, get the butter crust, and enjoy, and get it uncut so when you bring it home, you cut the pieces yourself. It cooks better that way, and it is served better that way. Here's Chaimo. - All right, earlier in the week, Hoodie, we had Titans defensive and Jeffrey Simmons. He's been saying a lot of things all off season. He had things to say about Caleb Williams, some really horrible trash talk earlier this year. He also had some trash talk for a radio host, earlier this week. - Let's go back in time, and hear from that radio host, from a few days ago, Jeffrey Simmons. - Yeah, Jeff, you want to sit down? We can talk whenever you want to talk. Jeff. - We'll deal with that later. Roger McCreary sitting down with us here on 1045 zone. Jeff, I mean, we're on the air right now. I'm right here, Jeff. We can talk anytime you want to. Unbelievable. - We gotta make that happen. - Well, we'll deal with that later on. Roger McCreary sitting down with us here on 1045 zone. I'm talking to you right here. Jeff, we tried to talk to you last week. I'm being rode to Roger, we'll deal with you later. - Okay, what's going on? - Oh, I'm not asking for that to happen with us, but if that happened with us, that would be a different outcome. I'm just telling you. - Yeah, I thought Jeffrey Simmons, if I was his agent, I would have picked up the phone and gone. Have you lost your mind yelling at a radio guy while he's on the air so you look like the idiot? - My point is, is that if you have something to say, I'm offering you my headset. If we only had two headsets, I'd offer mine. Are you got some to say? Say it, but don't scream from across the bow from 10 yards away. You got some to say? - Correct. - Say, you're concerned about what I say about you on social media, let's talk about it. Otherwise, keep it stepping and put my fries in the bag. - Correct. - Wow. - Probably would have been rough putting him on the air. He was using some rather unsavory language. - Not rough for me, not rough for me. You got some to say? Say it to my face. - FCC won't let Jeffrey be. - Okay. Okay. You know what you can do with the FCC? - Uh oh. - And you can put in the FCC, also you can put my fries in the bag as well. My point is, is that in that scenario, if you have something to say, say it, but don't say it from yards away, especially when your teammates go sit down and talk. Go ahead and change. If you look up for Shay, he's the one with the dog 'cause he's scared. Go ahead. - Uh oh. - NFL Sunday ticket ruling. They were gonna pay out over four billion dollars to people. Not anymore. (laughing) - That's not. - That's pretty much what it was. If you're a person who ever subscribed to this, we're gonna get some money. - I was a subscriber for a long time. I would absolutely have gotten money. - You can forget about that check because the federal judge has overturned the ruling siding with the NFL and landing us where we always are. The NFL always, always, always wins. - Yeah, man. Very disappointed in that, Cap. I mean, it was our lawsuit. If I can win my Facebook lawsuit, how come I can't win that one? - Well, this was a district judge that I think overturned it. - Yeah. - It'll work its way through. When it's way through the courts and when you're about 80, you'll get a check. (laughing) - What does the mail system look like when we're 80, by the way? - Cap's check's gonna go to his estate. - Exactly. - There you go, Mindy. That's for you. Take that. - Grandma, happy 93rd. You got a check here from Sunday Ticket. I don't know what that is. Sunday Ticket. Well, we'll take it. I guess David must have gotten that back in the day. How much is it? $80,000. - Put it in the bank! (laughing) - These creams from the, these creams from the heavens. - Take that! (laughing) - Okay. - Survey this week ranked all of the major cities in America by their marijuana consumption. Chicago came in at number three, 24.9 metric tons per year of marijuana consumed in Chicago. - Guys, that's all. - I think he lives here. - I think, (laughing) - I think we can do better than that. Can we get to number one place? We gotta pump up the numbers a little bit. - What's one, New York? - New York was one LA was two, it tracked with population, but come on, Chicago, we can do better than this. - Come on, Abdallah, you're better than that. - Let's show America what we're made of. - I think they made, they based it on media size. - And is that just smoking, or is that gummies, everything? - All of it, 24.9 metric tons of cannabis per year. - Oh, between the dollar and York, we should have been number one. - New York, LA, Chicago. That shows you what's happening in the media in each one of these towns. You need to take a lot more in New York, apparently. - That is it. - Yankees, Jets, Giants, okay. - Give me a gummy, I'm so upset with the Jets, okay. Give me one, light me up. - Light me up. - Okay. - And then LA, of course, Angels. (laughing) - But the Chargers are like, ah. - I don't care, man. - And they're here in Chicago? Third, that's about right. I wonder where Atlanta is on that list. Shay? - Matt Damon would like a sequel to the movie Rounders. - Kathy, are you a Rounders fan? I'm learning about movies you hate every week. - Massive, I can tell you. I've seen that movie a hundred times. - It's great. - If I get another dog, I might name him a Rounder. I don't know. That movie's amazing. - Rounder, I don't even know her. (laughing) - That Rounders is so freaking good. - Anything else on it? - Pay that man his money. - Yeah, I enjoy that movie very much. Thank you. - Are you in for a sequel hoodie? - No, I don't, I think that movie's perfect. - That's what I'm saying. - You don't need a second one. - Some of these movies we don't need a sequel for. - Just let the original list. - Just let the original great sequel out of that. - Yeah. - Is Shay's when he goes to try and win the World Series in Vegas? - Yes, that would be amazing. - Okay, so how would you write it? What else happens in that movie in the sequel? - He actually leaves a wake of debt back in New York where he was and the mob comes after him. - Uh-huh. - Yeah. - It's ingenious. Another mob movie. - Amazing. - Here's Shay. - We don't have enough of those. - Oh, of course. Also, Gen Z is rallying against an emoji. Gen Z is saying that the thumbs up emoji is passive-aggressive and people should stop using it. - Do you ever use the thumbs up emoji? I actually do use it quite often. - I use it every day. - Exclusively use it as a passive-aggressive option. So when I saw this, I'm like, "Get done." - I use the fist bump. I use the thumbs up, thumbs down. The exclamation point. Yeah, use them all, man. - I never use a thumbs up in that manner. I use it to say, you know, to respond quickly to someone. Hey, did you get so-and-so? Did you hear from so-and-so? There's a thumbs up. But never in a sarcastic way. - Or like, if Danny sends out a group text, "Hey, we've got to do, you know, this for the whole group, "me, you, you know, waddle so everybody." - Yeah. - I give a thumbs up that I'm on board. - I don't know. I don't, I never use it in that way. - I always, if I'm arguing with someone in a text or a group chat, I always send it as just like the, "I'm done with this." Cool. You have your place, I have mine, thumbs up. It's always passive-aggressive. - Jay Moore, would you ever use a thumbs up for a 187 or an undercover cop? You ever use the thumbs up there? - Snitches get stitches, man. (laughing) - Absolutely. Snitches get stitches. - Here's Shane Orley. - That's the Friday folder, gentlemen. - Oh, are you serious? We got through everything? Wow, how about that? - Usually, hoodie has so much stuff that gets in the bag that he's talking that we run out of time for. - We got through everything. - We're just blessed that we didn't have a sidebar in the middle of the Friday folder 'cause that happens from time to time in the show, too, from Cap. - Brought to you by Anken Law. - Coming out. - We went to $6 million for the Great Howard Anken. - Coming up, Tracy Butler, that's my line. - You didn't use it. - Well, of course, of course. - I had to put the cherry on the sun. - No question about it, no question about it. If it wasn't for my lines, it's a lot to take that. And look at my tubbies! - Down the race button. - And I think we might've lit a fire yesterday. We're coming back. - I'm told to break, please, from Shay Norlin, 'cause we got Tracy Butler coming up next with what's gonna happen with the weekend weather. That is next on the Cap and J-hood Morning Show. - It's Friday, time to get it in for the weekend. Now back to Cap and J-hood. Tune the levels all the way up, up. - ESPN Chicago. - Now time for the Cap and J-hood Cut of the Day. Run to you, bye. - That would be - Chicago Cut Take Us. - It's on La Salle, North Side of the Chicago River. Great, on a Friday afternoon on their awesome patio. - J-Morphin. - Yo. - Yes, it's boring, but it's a sport. - Oh! - Whatever. - It's not boring. - Okay, then you're boring. - All right, cut! - Uh-oh. - I mean, oh, yeah, I mean. - We have an angry guest. - We got a fist on-- - I couldn't stop her! - Uh-oh. - She got by security. - Uh-oh. - Hey, brother. - There you go. - There you go. - There you go. - Are you kidding me? - Why, wait. I'll be throwing your microphone. - She's on there. No, she's on right here. - Why are you being so mean to Gary and his parents? - He's a loser. - Spelled his name that way. Maybe he didn't necessarily spell his name that way. - He's a loser. - Gary. - Hold on a second, Tracy. He was married for 40 years. I know that, and I understand what you're saying, but about him comparing that. But maybe this was a really hard thing. It broke his heart to have to break Leslie's heart the way he did. - This was as almost as hard as losing your wife of 40 years to some woman you got an overnighter with on a TV shiner. - Oh, God. - He called it that. - Overnighter, I don't even know her. - I mean, this guy's a clown. - I totally disagree. I was so mad sitting there in the ABC7 weather cave, listening to all this, I had to march myself. - He lied. And then Tracy-- - Wait a minute. - I'm a retired restaurant tour at 55. Oh, really, the time doesn't match up. - My question is, how did you have time to watch? You're in bed at five. - You're right, I am. And I haven't even seen last night's episode yet. - Let me say it for you. Leslie's the big winner. She didn't end up with that jackaloon. - And that's all, folks. - A classic cut of the day. - By the way, they've already got divorced. - Tracy Butler brought to you by the Schomburg boomers. - That's the ABC7 music. Hi, Tracy. How you doing? - Thanks for activating. - What's your mic on? - My mic. So you saw Joan is going to be the golden bachelorette. Will you be watching? - What'd she look like? - The blonde that she left to take care of her family. She was the one who left the show kind of mid-season because her, yeah, take a look at Joan, the golden bachelorette. - Her hoodie will be assigning me to watch it. - Yes, 'cause I certainly will not. I certainly will not. Tracy, tell us about the weekend weather. What can we expect? - I'd love to. Okay, so I know it looks a little ominous at the places right now. - It does? - I've heard from some folks up around Northbrook. They said they're getting a little rain there right now. It's going to be just very spotty for the next, probably three, four hours. We have some spotty showers. But anybody going to Lala Palooza later today, this evening, we're going to start to get some sun. It's still humid tomorrow. The weekend looks magnificent. I mean, this has to be one of the best weather weekends for Lala ever. - Yeah. - Yes. - I think the people in Lala don't mind the rain though. It has to be obvious. - So they don't care about the muddy feet and all of that. - I don't think so, I don't think so. Have you seen these people? They come in and they, how did they come in muddy? I think they come in with muddy feet. - You might be right about that. - Okay, Fred Flintstones, a bunch of Barney Rubbles walk around with no shoes and just muddy feet. I don't think they mind. But I'm glad it's going to be good weather for them. That's for sure. - There's a lot going on in the city this weekend. And so the weather, oh, there's Cap. He's already looking at Joan. - Amazing what Spanx and a spatula can do for her. - Oh my gosh, what is wrong with you? - Damn. - To Thomas. - She's so pretty and she left the show to go take care of her family. Now that's, yeah, what's wrong with her. - She takes her makeup off. She loses like 15 pounds. - Tracy Butler brought you by the Chomper. - How much do you lose when you take your makeup off? - I don't wear makeup. This is all that crap, baby. - Yeah, but when he gets home, the high heels go on. Tracy Butler brought you by the Chomper Boomers get the championship experience. All season long with the Chomper Boomers feel the boom. Tracy, thank you so much as always. We've got to have a great weekend as always. - Yes. - And we love you, Tracy. - For listening and calling in, thank you, Shay. Thank you, Jay Moore. How about you and I do this Monday, say around seven? - I'll be here ready to go with Bellsine. No heels. - That's gonna say, the Bells go to heels. So long, everybody. Take that. - From Chicago. - Go, steers.
