It's time to get you up to speed on all things sports. Yes, yes, yes, yes. With plenty of nonsense in between. Oh look, here comes our fearless producer! Gwen and Chris starts right now on 97th grade of fair. Welcome into a Thursday edition of Gwen and Chris, Tony Gwen Jr. Chrisello. Matt Scravey Padres back after a tough road trip, although it ended on a positive note. Padres get a 5-2 victory in yesterday's ballgame to avoid being swept and going 0-6 for the first time since 2009. I welcome in my radio pot-nuzz. Chrisello, Matt Scravey. Gentlemen, how was your Thursday going? Very well, Tony. Good to have the team back in town. And, you know, good thing we have this Matt Waldron guy on this ballclub. You know, we got the round table a little earlier today, and you guys, if you missed it, you can hear it a little later after our show at 4.30 today, an hour free, commercial free, Padre baseball talk. But, you know, one of the things that kind of came to attention as we were discussing the road trip in the first half of the season is, when you think about some of the question marks that the Padres had going into this season, one of them was, "Who's going to play center field?" Well, I don't know what Jackson Merrill seems to be doing a pretty good job there. Hit another home run yesterday, his eighth of the year, his third on the road trip. All right, so who's going to play left field? That's a problem. Well, let's see. We got Jerkson Profar over there, and all he's doing is leading all of Major League Baseball and hitting. So I think that's been a success. All right, well, what are you going to do about the back end of the bullpen? You'll never be able to replace Josh Hader. Well, we've done okay there. We've got this Robert Suarez guy who's only given up four runs all season and got 18 out of 19 saves. He's been pretty good. Okay, no way you're going to solve the number five starter issue. You've got nothing there. Apparently they do. Matt Walden's been really, really good, and yesterday became the first pitcher, all year Tony, to pitch seven innings against the mighty Phillies and limit them to one run or fewer. So a lot of good things have happened for the Padres, and I'm sure that is what is on their minds as they get ready to start this homestand. Yeah, I mean, that is a great way to talk about that road trip right there. It's better than going over all the other side. By going over the question marks that we had coming into the season. Yeah, versus where we're at now. Yeah, no, listen, all those things are true. Obviously, Derek's in having the terrific year. Obviously, Jackson has done a fantastic job in his role. The number, the number five starter, and that's really why this conversation comes up. It's because Matt Waldron and even into the season, everybody, a lot of folks, was ready to send him on down, send him on his way. Let's get a different look. And quite frankly, he can make it a good argument that he's been your best pitcher for the last month of baseball. And so yesterday was just another indicator of that. I mean, that's probably one of the two best lineups he's faced. He's faced the Dodgers twice, kept them to one in two runs in those starts. And then he handled the Philly lineup, which we had watched the previous two days, pretty much get what they wanted, right? I mean, even when they were up against the ropes and they had to have hits in game two, when you got a dude who hadn't given up anything, he's been perfect. They got four straight, I mean, almost before you could blink your eye and that game was over. And so for him to come out and really, and you know, going into the game, I felt like he might have a good chance to pull that off. I mean, the Phillies are a machine and they've been looking, you know, relatively at the same stuff night in and night out, good fastball, some type of breaking ball. Well, they haven't seen anybody like Waldron. And what we do know from the teams that hadn't seen the Knuckleballer, we've watched how their outings have gone. They look very similar, the Marlins, the Angels. I mean, the Dodgers for five innings in both of those starts. He's, we've seen him stymie offenses before, but maybe not one is potent as this one. And he just keeps getting better and better. It seems like every start. Yeah, the Knuckleballer, the Knuckleball is getting better. And the thing is, is, you know, I watched, you know, many Knuckleballers back in the day. Now he's the only one. But I mean, you go back to the, the Nicros and Candyotti and Huff and Wakefield after that. They all, when they were on, their Knuckleball was on. It was really unhittable, much like what you're seeing with Waldron. It's almost like catchable. Right, uncatchable, unhittable, and you don't know where it's going to go, etc. And Brandon Stott said yesterday goes, he threw one Knuckleball that hit Alex Bohm. Then I come up, he throws the same one and it drops in for a strike. And I have to just go back to the dugout, right? So that's how you don't know. But the point is, and Knuckleballers usually hate to say this. I don't want to, you know, go the other way. But they usually have some games where they have no feel at all for the Knuckleball. And then it's almost a useless, you know, pitch and they can't do much. And all of those guys I mentioned, you know, would, would have those kinds of outings. Waldron's not having that right now. And I think one of the reasons is because A, he's just sent a good groove with the Knuckleball, but B, Tony, he's got other pitches that may not be plus, but they're good enough. He threw a lot of good fastballs and breaking stuff on the outside corner yesterday that froze hitters as well. So that gives him a little bit of something else to go to if the Knuckleballers isn't 100%. That's, that's 100% right. I mean, oh, hi, Scrape. Welcome to the show there. Welcome there, man. What's the matter with you? How are you feeling, man? You look like you look like you, you lost some weight, man. Everybody, am I on? I don't feel. You're not on. You're not on. You're not coming to the mine. I don't know what's. Get a mic on for this. What about now? There it is. Did you push the button? I just, if you were watching the stream, you just saw the look. I've seen it before. Um, it's funny that people keep saying I'm losing weight, which is great, because I don't feel like I'm losing weight. I haven't been able to exercise. They took some meniscus out of your shoulder. They did not take meniscus out of my shoulder. They did not take meniscus. That's why you look like. No, it just took me about seven minutes to get the cameras working for me. So yeah, yeah, yeah. Very good. Very good. We're all here. Thank you. You know, you bring up a good point, Chris. I think the development of his sweeper and his fastball have allowed him to make the leaps he has. Because there has been days where the knuckle ball isn't doing what he wants to, or he can't command it like he did yesterday. And he can lean on those that sweeper and a fastball. We've seen him to get back at bats. Like he might fall behind 10, 20, and then you'll see him use the fastball, located fastball on the sweeper to get back in the at bat. And he didn't go back to his knuckle ball. We've seen him do that a lot during the course of the year. I agree. I think it also, he throws a harder knuckle ball than all of those guys that you named. Right. And he changes speed. It was a bad yesterday. He went 72 knuckle, 77, 80. And so like, and I think the harder knuckle ball is easier for him to control, because it doesn't have as much time to kind of go. If if if Negro and Huff's knuckle ball was going, break, break, break. On the hard one for for Waldron, it's just break, break. And so I think he could command that one a little bit better. But he's been phenomenal, man. He's been a lot of fun to watch too. It's been it's been extra fun watching some really, really good hitters. You just look like they are just lost up there. Nick Castellanos almost swung twice on one of those pitches yesterday. He was so far out in front of it. And if you saw the singles that he got to center field, it's a blooper over short about middle middle part of the ball game. It was one of the worst swings I've ever seen a big leaguer take. And yeah, I mean, he's able to fight it off, which is a credit to him. But it gives you an idea of what that knuckle ball is doing right now. And yeah, now the potters just got to find a way to string together, you know, another good stretch, which I fully expect Tony, you know, I mean, when they left on this road trip, you do last week. I do because why because they're down right now. And every time they get down, they come back. And every time they get up, they go down. I mean, this is not a shouldn't be surprising when we were talking last week before the road trip, you know, Tony brought it up. He said, you beat the A's, et cetera. But now they got to back it up. They got to go down the road and, you know, keep it going. And that didn't happen. So, you know, now you got to come home. And, you know, the best news of all is that the Brewers are, you know, throwing four consecutive right-handed starters. So that gives the Padres a fighting chance. And, you know, I'm not even going to get into the lefty starter thing till Washington gets here next week because we're not facing one. But, you know, that continues to be an issue that nobody can, you know, seem to solve. So at least you don't have to worry about it this weekend. And we'll cross that bridge when we get to it now. Hopefully they can get a little street going against the Brewers. And I know they're having a good season. But a good team doesn't scare me if I'm the Padres. What scares me is the Padres. So, I mean, listen, what you're describing is what I'm going to turn is .500. That's right. 500 baseball, baby. That's what I'm framing it up. I'll tell you this, the last two games were encouraging, despite them going one and five on that road trip. They got the two best pitchers they faced in that stretch of games. They actually had their best games against. They had Nola on the ropes. I mean, they had that game in their back pocket. Philly's, you know, did what they did. Then you get Rangers Suarez, who's got 10 wins in a below two ERA. And you do what you need to do off of him. You get the runs you needed in order to win that game. They played their best two games. The last two games are that road trip. Yeah. People don't want to hear that they played well on defense in Philadelphia, but they did all three games in Philadelphia. Croninworth was looking like gold glove material the last couple of days out there. I mean, listen, it's not a statement that heals anything. You know, they still lost. They still went one and five on that road trip. None of that changes. But, you know, as you look towards this series today, they played better those last two games than they did at any other point. So hopefully, this Brewers team is no joke either, by the way. The Brewers team can play. They do a lot of things on the bases. They play defense on that side of the thing. And, you know, their offense is booming right now. And so the Padres, this isn't going to be, you're not, it's not like you're walking out of a series against a team that was in the NLCS and you're playing like the A's or, you know, one of them team. You're about to roll into a team that's leading their division by a nice little margin. Yeah. Willie Adamis is as hot as anybody in baseball last month or so. So look out for this guy. 51 stakes, I believe. Yeah. 51 stakes. They've been driving them in and hitting them over the wall. I should just say that we were just talking about Matt Waldron. Matt Waldron is going to be on the show. We're scheduled to be on the show tomorrow for Friday at 2.20 pm. Very good. Yes. I hope that I'm going to ask them a bunch of questions about the Negro brothers. Because I know, but I know you love when I go back in time like that. Yes, I love it. Yeah. We got a bunch of Brewers on the field right now doing their one with nature deal right now. They got their socks off, kind of laying in the grass. OK, I mean, I've been on that field. It's not the most comfortable field to lay on, but when you're from the walk, you know, you're out in the sunshine. I don't think I've ever laid on the field, but I've actually walked on the field. It's not comfortable then. And the field is very hard. It's like, I mean, if you're walking on the dirt, like you walking, yeah, dirt is kind of hard there. I'm going to go lay down on the field next time I'm down there and see what happens, guys. I'm just going to go do it. Can I just say this before we go to break and close the book on the Phillies? It is so annoying to me when players are not good coming into a series and then become, I'm not saying against the Padres, just in general. Nick Castellanos didn't get a hit for two series leading up to that. And then he had six hits in two games with four doubles. I looked this up, Chris. I looked it up. No one has done that this year or last year or the year before. It's just annoying to me how this how baseball works. So annoying to me. I mean, you could argue that he was due. He was due to him. It just seems like it happens against the Padres. On the other hand, Kyle Swarber does what he did every time. Oh, I never want to see him taking up that again. I mean, dude, this is a way better Kyle Swarber. I mean, he's like 260 right there. I know he had a line drive single yesterday. That's one of the first of those I've ever seen. He looks a lot different right now. He's good. So glad to be done with the Phillies for sure. Yes, indeed. We're like for real done with them. Like we don't see them the rest of the season. So good. Good riddance. What was it? One and five. One and five. Yeah, it's the Phillies. Either way, no good. No go. All right. Let's get to break. We're going to Chris on the other side. All right. Welcome back. We're going to Chris is underway here for a Thursday. Padres home to start a four game home stand. Her series with the Milwaukee Brewers. It's a seven game home stand me. Washington Nationals follow the Brewers into town next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and the Nats. I know it is Tony. You mentioned the city. It's far too early to talk about playoffs. Play off, but I did notice the standings today and you've got right now in the national league. Yeah, four teams that are kind of clear of the pack, right? The Phillies in their division, the Brewers in their division, the Dodgers in the West and the Braves, despite their injuries, still have a little bit of a margin over the rest of the group. So those four look like, you know, barring something crazy. We'll be playing in October. And it definitely looks like the Rockies in the Marlins are, you know, getting ready for next season. So you can lop those two off. That leaves nine teams in the national league, including the Padres. And those nine teams, crazy, but they are all nine, separated by one and a half games. So that's, I mean, that's exciting. To me is what it is. I, you know, every game really does mean something. We're, we're overreacting to every win and every loss. We've been doing it all year, but it is kind of that way. Tony, in a lot of sense, because every win you move up two spots, every loss, you move down two spots. Yeah, I mean, that's, that was the design. That was what Major League Baseball was hoping for when they created these extra wild card spots. And they're getting exactly what they, they thought or wanted to happen. Yeah, what they put in for. So, you know, it's, it's, it's, you know, it's definitely too early, but because everybody is so close. And it's so, and it is early as you'll be able to kind of watch it kind of sift itself out. Um, who's going to end up in those spots? Yeah. I mean, the Nationals come in Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. I never recall, not ever, but rarely do I recall the Nationals being of great interest. But right now, they're like a half game ahead of the Padres. So, you know, even though it's June, those become kind of fun games and poor games. And they got a bunch of old Padres too. I mean, that's kind of a, another reason to, to watch that. Maybe X Padres is a better way to say it. Yeah, they're not old, right. X Padres is probably a better word. Yeah. So, but first it's the brew crew. We are going for a couple of hours here on our program. Tony and I certainly, you know, we haven't had a chance to speak since the passing of Willie Mays. And we are going to do a Willie Mays kind of our own little tribute coming up in the three o'clock hour. So stick around for that. We'll have that in just a little bit. Also, we've got the, you know, the Daily Gambit, a little Chris versus the fans. But we do have, I don't know if this is quite breaking news. I don't know the needs of sounder. But it's breaking news as far as I'm concerned, because I'm mentioning to you, Tony, the Lakers have got your guy. Oh, no, he put his head down. Yeah, I know, he knows this. I'm telling him what he already knows. But yeah, JJ Redick will become the next Lakers coach for your contract, probably could get at least even money in Vegas right now as to whether or not he'll make it through that contract as the last, what, three or four Laker coaches have all been unceremoniously dumped far before their contract was over. So we'll see. I'm obviously, you guys know I'm a big Laker fan. So I'm a roofer, JJ. Yeah, you got a hands your guy now. He's my, he's the paint is dry or the ink is dry now. So therefore, I don't get to like, in my opinion, I don't get to like whine about who I wanted. Yeah, like, I want them to ultimately now the, the, the, the attention needs to turn to number what, 18 is it 17? Winning 18, the Celtics won 18. Yeah, so now the attention turns 18. So I don't care who gets us there. Somebody needs to get us there because I can't deal with these Celtic folks for too much longer. So I know that you and I are both sour Celtic people, but I become far more sour on the Celtics since they won the championship. And again, that was, I think Monday night, we haven't really had a show together since then. The reason I become sour is because I keep reading almost everywhere I look that the Celtics now have to be considered one of the greatest teams of all time. And I really take exception to that when they've won one championship with this group, I grant you, they shoot the three pointer fantastic. We're talking about this team that just won his. Yes, I've said, Chris has been upset about this since Monday. I read this to Scrabby that the day and he said, you know, the article and he was, you know, one of those ESPN guys said, the Celtics of 2024 check every box when it comes to being one of the great teams of all time. And I said, how about checking the box of winning more than one championship? Is that enter into this at all? Yeah, really? One one, I grant you, they got, look, who knows? They might have won it anyway, but we've already discussed all the injuries that happened in the Eastern Conference that made it a whole lot easier on them to get to the finals. They do shoot the three great, but as we saw in game four, when they're not doing that, they lost by 40 points. I just, I think we overreact a lot to whoever wins, thinking they're now the greatest. And this is one of those cases in my mind. So, you know, this is, this is clearly one of those microwave articles. Yes, we just instantly, now they are one of the best teams to have ever graced a floor. Like, come on, how are they here? Oh, I heard, well, you look, JJ, no, no less than your guy. JJ Redick said that they're back court of, let me see, Derek White and Holiday are the best defensive back court in NBA history. I thought that's a little much. I mean, I think they're good, but there's a lot of defensive back courts out there in the history of the game. At least you could make the argument. You could, you could formulate an argument that said, all right, you guys stopped the two most prolific back courts combos that we've seen in a while. I can, I can at least, I don't agree with it, but I can at least see you, how you prepared that argument. Okay. I can't see how you prepared an argument for the 20, 23, four Boston Celtics being one of the greatest champions of all time. When they didn't have to, listen, it's not their fault, but they ultimately didn't face the teams that ultimately should have been there and weren't there because they got injured. Yeah, they did not have to face a tough enough road. That goes even for the Miami Heat, who they got out of having to deal with, because Jimmy Butler basically was done. No, everybody they beat lost their superstar. Butler, the Cleveland series, it was Mitchell. And then not in the business of giving the Celtics any credit. But I'm just with you. I'm going to go ahead and say that now. I'm with you on this one, and I said that at the beginning. So if you're a big Celtics fan and you're mad at us, this is coming from a place of disliking the Celtics to begin with, but I think there's a lot of merit to our conversation here. The way you talk, the way you walk, the way you dress. I love it so much, because this is the only time that Tony becomes like me, where you get disgruntled, yes. The Celtics did win their championship. The Panthers have not yet won theirs though. The Stanley Cup moves on to a game six tomorrow night. Kind of tied in the Stanley Cup. Yeah, it's getting pretty exciting there. All right, we'll take a break. We got a big five a little earlier than usual because an 0 or 30 today. Big. I'm sorry. Yes. What's next? Padres pen pals. Oh, that's right. Padres pen pals PPP because at 4 30 today that we have the, the Padres commercial free round table. So we've got two more hours together. Gwen and Chris on 97 three, the fan. Do you love getting home or at this point you just kind of the days all run together a little bit? I mean, it's only mid-June, but no. Every single road trip we've been on by the second, maybe third to the second of the last day, I'm usually like, "I'm ready to go home." You're thinking about it, huh? I'm already like, all right. I mean, I've gone as far as like my bag has been packed before I even wake up the following day, like with the exception of the toiletries. Like, I'm ready to get about it there after a while. Do you, because when I used to travel a lot, before I worked with radio, I used to travel like 35, 40 weeks a year, and I had a suitcase full of my clothes that I traveled with, and that was my clothes that I traveled with, and I would just wash them. Nothing ever left the suitcase. Do you pack each time? Yes, I don't, I don't want to. I don't want to. If I can not wear the same shirts I just wore on the last road trip, I try not to do that. And then plus, you go early in the season where it's cooler, so it's a lot of long sleeve stuff. So now we've moved to the summer where it's probably exclusively polos. Sensible? Your bag gets lighter because I don't want to carry like a heavy jacket or two. It's just polos, cup of pear pants, toiletries, underwear, socks, stuff like that. But no, I don't leave. Only thing that stays in my, like a travel bag is the Xbox. The travel Xbox. A phone roll, a travel Xbox. Yeah, because the other one is like built into like my room. I see. I didn't give it too much trying to take it in and out. So, a phone roll. It's the way of like style scraping. Most of us have to unplug the Xbox. Did you hear what else he had to be? He's bringing with him? A phone roller. Believe it. I didn't know. That's a huge thing to put this in case. He loves the phone roller. He tried to get me to do that a few years ago. If we go on a seven day roadie, I try to get at least five workouts in it. In order for that to happen at my age, you have to have a phone roll. Or you're going to work out one day and you're going to be too, you're going to be too achy, your joints are going to be all jacked up. And so, you can't do it. So, I've learned to travel with a phone roller. Well, you guys want to know what else? Like, I got a, what else do I have in that bag? I got some cough drops. Got it. Got to have, got to have accept just. You got to protect the voice. That's a big thing. Hey, I've learned to have from Jess. You got to have the voice. So cough drops. I don't even have to necessarily need them. No, you got to have them though. Yeah, you need that little part of your suitcase. Like your own little medicine store. I'm the, I'm the opposite. You know, the other sneaky thing you got to take with you on the road. At least I do. Wet wipes. Oh, yeah, good call. Because, because the kids don't know what. So, you could have sandpaper, as toilet paper, or you could get the good stuff. It is a coin flip. There's his face when you said my wife. I didn't know what they were for. I thought he was like wiping baby's bottoms. And I'm like, who is he running into on the road? No, Chris, they have like adult wipes now for men. You can buy them. I was just going to say that when I travel with the women's basketball team, it's all in the winter. So, I don't have a different style of clothes. And the young ladies on the women's basketball team, I believe think I only own three shirts. Because I wear the same ones on every road trip. See, that's what I'm trying to avoid. No, I do it. I'm just like thinking I'm just rolling around with the same three shirts all time. No, I wear the exact same thing. Every road trip. Now, does Dave Marcus, do you think you might be able to say that I wear, I have, you know, there's a, there's a, at this point, they're going to be able to say, you know, you do have a rotation of shirts that you definitely stick to during this time of year. For sure. Does Dave Marcus dress the same every day or does he? He seems like he's kind of got uniform of him. So, he says pretty much as he looks back there. He's pretty much. Okay, I love that. Dave Marcus. That is Monarchs. You guys want the lineup real quick? Oh, yes. You've got to have a little doodle doodle doodle doodle doodle doodle doodle doodle doodle. Yeah, a little slow today scrape. Well, he's not a good captain. And Nick are sharing a duties on the board. Luce arises at first. Fernando's in right. Jerks and Proffers, DHing tonight. Croninworth, Machado, Jackson, Maryland, Center, Peralta's in left today. Camp Pusano catches. Hassan Kim. You don't know the thing we talked about today, and then we'll get into the Padre pen pals. But Arise is playing with a bum shoulder, I believe right now. Fernando's playing with a bum, something or other. Proffers got the knee. Machado's got the elbow and other things. And it was interesting because Jackson Merrill looked around the club house after the game yesterday when he was asked about his team. And he said, we got a bunch of blankity blank ballers in here. Like he didn't. Yes, but he said we got a bunch of ballers in here. Was it two blankity blanks or just one blank? No, it was blanky ballers. Yeah, one blank baller. Now I know what it is. Yeah, two. I was like, no, I can throw in there. No, he only had one. But I think he was, you know, referring to the fact that these guys are, you know, playing, they're not asking for the excuse. And I'm not trying to make it for them that the facts are the facts. They're all playing a little nicked up right now. And I think Mike Schilt is doing his best to give everybody a day off here and there. And today it's pro far getting the DH. That's all I was trying to. Yeah, no, that's, I think that's accurate. I think they are really, you know, they're not. And no, but listen, no one's 100% healthy at this point in the year. But the Padres definitely have some ones that are that can affect you. You know, I know we haven't made it. He hasn't made much of a deal about it. But I'm sure Luis's shoulder not being 100%, that's affecting him. I think a guy like Tati, I don't know that it's affecting him swinging, but everything else does probably affect him. I mean, Manny, we already know what that, what that one is. He's, he's, he's never going to come, come clean on that. But I would imagine not healthy. You know, really, Jared said it's probably the one that has had the most experience playing with what he's playing with. I mean, he's had it pretty much all season and going back to last season. And so he's learned how to manage that. And, and you know, quite frankly, when he's hitting, it doesn't bother him at all. It's, you know, running the bases, running after the ball in the outfield. Those are the times where it pops up. But this team is, this team is definitely not 100%, that's not an excuse. We've seen them win with the same injuries that they've had. So they just got to weather the storm until they start to feel a little bit better. All right. Hope that answered some questions out there. Now let's get to some questions that Scrappy really has on the docket. It's time to ask the experts, Padres fans. I was hoping maybe you can bring a little invite into it. Write us, tweet us, Facebook us, send a carrier pigeon for Chris. He thinks they're cute. Padres pen pals begins. Hurt the poloka big time. I would just like to have you guys know that I am definitely playing through injury. So I am a team player. Appreciate you guys. You got to look like it too. That I'm playing through injury. I am a little bit tired. Last night, you look a little beat up today. Last night, I woke up in the middle of the night on my shoulder that I just got surgery on. And I immediately flipped to the other side. And then the rest of the night, it was just spent like throbbing, throbbing. That's, you know, that's the problem. We talked about this when you first got a surgery. If you don't keep your time clock on the pain meds, it'll get away from you quickly. Yes, yes. The pain can get away from you very quickly. But you know, I'm still here. And I appreciate it. You are battling. You got lucky. I'll give you some love on that. Thank you. As I gingerly raise my arm to point to Nick, don't raise that arm for the first time. What are you doing? It just happened for me to look over there. We'll point the other arm. Okay, Nick. There you go. Okay, thank you, Nick. Padres Pen pals, if you have any questions for the guys, just tweet me or Instagram DM me at Matt Scravey. But I put this one up earlier. And someone, actually all three, there's four of them. But all three of them are tweets that I've had in the last couple, maybe the last week or so. And they're not favorable towards me. So the first one I put out there was this morning, actually. And so there's a little AJ Preller credit here. Mike Clevenger was the headliner, but getting Matt Waldron in that trade has been huge. So Padres got Clevenger, Waldron, and Greg Allen. Guardians got Austin Hedges, Josh Naylor, Cal Quantrell, Joey Cantillo, Gabriel Arias, and Owen Miller. Josh Naylor, I said, it really the only loss there. But someone came back and said that Josh Naylor isn't just a loss. It's a massive loss to this team. So, Tony, you're up first. As of right now, how does this trade look for AJ Preller and the Padres? Basically, it's Matt Waldron versus Josh Naylor. I mean, they just can't look at it in that window. You know, because if we recall, Clevenger was brought on to get the Padres into the playoffs that season, in which they did. And then they went ahead and beat the Cardinals if I'm not mistaken in the first round. Now they would eventually lose to the Doyers, if I'm not mistaken. I gave them this timeline right here. You're getting the timeline right here. They would if Mike Clevenger had to leave because of injury. Right. You know, those are the risks you take. Obviously, Naylor has turned out to be, or is turning into a budding star in the American League. Listen, if Matt Waldron, I mean, I'm sure they thought highly that Matt Waldron was going to be, I don't know that you're trading for a knuckleballer, like thinking like that's going to be something, but they've developed him. And I don't know that he might not have been a knuckleballer at the time. I'm not 100% sure. Yeah, I got to go back and look at that. Either way, at the time, remember, the Padres had been at the playoffs since it was a 2006? Five? Yeah, and then they ended a 15-year drought. So a 14-year drought. 14. And so in considering how elated everybody was when it was happening, I would say that it was worth it at the time. Now, looking back on me, obviously, Josh and Naylor's, well, he is. But even if that was the case, right? He'd be a DH here or first baseman. Maybe you don't have Luis. Maybe some of these other moves don't end up happening. That Padre fans like so much. So I don't know. I don't look at it from that lens. It did what it was supposed to do at the time. Chris, what do you think about this trade? Yeah, you have to go some to frame this as a great trade for the Padres. I mean, because Naylor's doing so well. But I want to point this out. When Naylor was here, he had 112 games and hit nine home runs. Now, he's played three times more games in Cleveland. But he has seven times more home runs in Cleveland. So, you know, there was really no that I could see a guy being a 20. You know, now maybe even a 35 home run guy this year. I mean, he's got 19 already. So, that wasn't there at the time. And were you going to be willing to be patient with Josh Naylor at the expense of adding Mike Clevenger to try and get to the playoffs? It's not fair to go back and say, "Well, I wish I could do it all over again." That's a great point. You can't. The other thing is his Cal Quantral also left in this trade. And he's not pitching pretty well, you know, albeit on the Rockies. But, I mean, he's had a nice little run here the last couple of years. So, yeah, wasn't the greatest trade. But you did get out of it what you set out to get at the time. Would you reap what you sow work there? No. Okay. We're going to move on to the next one. And this would be... I'm not going to name the people that went back and forth and be on Twitter. But yesterday, when jerks and profiles called for that automatic strike, even though he was in the box looking at the picture and the umpire was whatever, I tweeted, "I get that umpiring is difficult." But that is a perfect example of something that doesn't need to happen. Why call that there? Out of all the at bats today, this is the one you're going to put your foot down. So, someone came back to me and said, "Nobody respects the Padres." Come on, bro, that's just life, my friend. If they played the game, if they played the game, hustling down the line every time and stop blowing bubbles while jogging down the line, they may get that play called a hit. Until then, forget about it. So, this person has been for years telling me this bothers them about the bubbles. And I finally engaged after one year of this. And I said, "The whole blowing bubbles thing bothering you is fascinating to me." And then he came back and said, "Well, fascinating to me. It's 11 years and $350 million for this. You obviously have no clue what it cost a family of four to go see this bleep." So, you be fascinated and know then to that rag you call a sports talk show again. You're a clown and I don't have time. Good. Okay. We don't need this. Next question. Am I a clown? Your nose is a little red. I don't feel, I have admitted when I'm a clown in the past. I don't feel like I was a clown here. It came after a jerks and profile rant. Yeah, I don't really get the connection here. Because I assume he was talking about one hand well, Machado. Which by the way, he doesn't matter, he blows a bubble. And well, that part doesn't matter. I get it, you know, Manny picks his spots. But Manny's pointed it out many times that other guys pick their spots too. And he's right. Not the only one that on a sharp ground ball where he's going to be out by 30 feet. You know, ease is down the line a little bit. I'll just say this. Um, who is this who wrote this? Or do we get it? He doesn't. We're not getting any for him. I bet whoever he is or she is. He, all right. I bet he has cheered wildly all 144 career home runs. Manny's hit for the Padres. Probably, probably. Nope, he hasn't. He doesn't tune into our station, you know, to hear this kind of stuff. So, well, he pays good money to watch this filth, as he said. And blue. That means he's watching the home runs that are hit too. Too shit. My last reply was this took a turn. I'm sorry the season isn't great, but don't take it out on me. You guys. That was a clown response there. That was a good one. Tony, do you have anything to add? Because yeah, I do. Okay. The whole premise that somehow we'd get calls if we just ran down the line at 100% all the time. It's so stupid. Like, it is like, that's not how none of this works. And for the record, Jerrickson was wrong on the whole pitch clock thing. Yes. Oh, yes. Eight seconds. You have to be in the box looking at the picture. Eight second, period. Pitcher can do whatever he wants to in the 15 to, was it 17 with runners on? 19, right? I think it's 18. Actually, yeah. Just jumping around it, right? Right. Whether it's 15 or 18, the pitcher can do whatever he wants as long as he throws the ball before the clock hit zero. He doesn't have to be ready at eight. Hit or does. Hit or has to be ready. Even though Jared's not on the rubber or anything. Right? Exactly. Even though Jerrickson was, was leaking, he was waiting on the pitcher who wasn't on the rubber. It's not his word. His job is to be in the box and he said that's why he got banned. All right. So good to know that too. And for those who like Scrabby said, why pick that time to make that call? Well, because it was the right time to make the call. I can tell you, as somebody, well, if there's an error made or a penalty committed, you make the call. You don't ask what time is it? Oh, you know, it's a little early. I can't make that call. What? Come on, me. Get out of here, Christie. You're the one that said it. Well, it looked better. All right. And that's what got you into the whole. Yes. Argument with the guy. Yes. For so for no reason. So someone on April 26 tweeted me about Joe Musgrove asking if I thought he was distracted with some of the other things that he has going on off the field. I told him, no, I don't think it's a distraction back on April 26. Well, yesterday this person followed up on that question, which means they had it saved or something. But they said, how about now? Joe's been awful this season and his hurt. Yeah. He has time to film a new commercial where he's swinging a golf club. That feels irresponsible and like bad taste. I said, I don't know this for sure, but these commercials are likely shot before the season or scheduled well in advance to line up with travel and all that. Said a lot of stuff we do from we get from the team are all from spring training. This person said, I hope so, but the offseason was spent rehabbing from last year's injury, so it's still strange to be swinging golf clubs while rehabbing. Because you know, you have his 24 hour scheduling every day that would have, you know, could clearly take up his whole entire offseason of rehabbing a shoulder. Oh, wow. We were a minute earlier. I forgot. Tony, was that your piece? Yes. That was my piece. Chris, your piece. I do get the optics, but you don't know everything. It's not about, but come on guys, it's not, it's not, it's not, I'm sorry that it looks away to you, but there's, come on. Yeah, I agree. These things, they don't just call you up and say, Hey, you think you can film a commercial today? Come on down. Let's do this. No, I think it took you, Tony, yourself with HES at least a couple months to figure it out. Shaking is just, just, just be mad that they're not playing well. Why are we going to come up with these weird excuses or reasonings for why they're not? They're just not playing well. At Matt Scrabie, if anyone wants to speak to you. Artians, they're definitely consistent. Yes. Chris? Um, yeah, my response is too long for what's left. Okay, we'll take it on the other side. Boom. It's not really a big deal. You know, I would just ask this person who wrote this letter to never golf again and have fun or do anything outside there. Okay, we'll talk about this more. Hi, welcome back. Hour number two, Chris Ello. Tony went junior down in Petco Park where the Padres have returned after, yeah, it was a bad road trip. Uh, hopefully they'll have a good homestand. It starts tonight against the Milwaukee Brewers, the brew crew in town for four, starting this evening at a major beyond the mound for the Padres. Throw strikes, young man. Please throw strikes, young man. Take your chances. They haven't, nobody's really hit him yet, but he hasn't thrown enough strikes to be here. That's what I was going to say. Right. That's the problem. So yeah, throw some strikes, trust your stuff. And, uh, you know, let's see what happens tonight. Padres do have the better fortune of facing a right-handed starter tonight. Bryce Wilson from Milwaukee. As a matter of fact, it'll be four consecutive right-handed starters in this Milwaukee series. Don't look now though. The Nationals will be bringing in three consecutive lefties next Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, including our old friend, Mackenzie Gore. That's going to be interesting. That will be, but that's next week. Tonight we got the brew crew Padres in the middle of a pack that is as crowded as I've ever seen. I know it's only June 20th, but nine teams in the National League right now are within a game and a half of each other. And only two of those nine are going to make the playoffs. So I know it's too early. Tony's right. It's way too early. It's only June, but the games matter. Let's be honest. They do. And, you know, just hopefully somehow, some way the Padres will climb back to and then away from the 500 mark. I'm telling you, I'm starting to get people on my movement of not caring about the record until August 1st. I've had many people tell me already that this is the new thing they're doing too. They're lying. No, I'm serious because you know what? They had a terrible series in Philadelphia and you know what, Chris? I didn't care. Yeah. I didn't care. Yeah. Because I don't need to care until August 1st. Everybody else cared and you should care because if they lose about 20 in a row right now, August 1st won't matter. Yes, I understand that. If they start losing 20 in a row, then I will. You might pay attention at that point. I may, I may. Well, they're not going to lose 20 in a row. This team is destined to finish 81 and 81. And the hope is that that'll be good enough to get into the playoffs, which right now 500 would be good enough to get into the playoffs. So you know what we've seen in the last couple of years with this new wild card thing is that there are teams that are close to the 500 mark that are definitely in the mix at the end of the year. And it has been that way each year. Like I said, there's nine teams right now. So which of those two is going to step forward, if any, and claim those last two wild card positions? Let's see. Tony is off right now for a moment. He's got to do a couple of things getting ready for tonight's broadcast. But he rejoins me in about 10 minutes. And he and I are going to take a little look at the life and times of the great Willie Mays, who as you know, passed a couple of days ago. So we'll get to that stick around for that. Scrabias alongside with his bum shoulder and all. Lakers have a new head coach. JJ Redick is in for your contract. I heard they had to wait until his podcast taping was over. He's not still going to do that. Podcasts on John James now can possible if he does do it. I'm listening because that's a crazy dynamic head coach and star player podcast. Seems a little odd. It does seem really. I mean, while I'm heartbroken, now the Chicago Bulls. I saw this. I've just traded one of my favorite players in the league. Alex Caruso goes to Oklahoma City for guard Josh Giddy. That's a good trade. Giddy probably for both teams, Oklahoma City needs a great role player, defensive player. Caruso is that and Giddy's young. He's 21 years old. He's got a lot of talent. Bulls could use, you know, the skill. I'm sorry to see Caruso go. I'm always a fan of a great defensive player who does everything out there to try and help you win games. One other quick note before we get to the Daily Gambit, according to sources, the NCAA is presenting tournament options to the Division one conference commissioners for a 72 or 76 team NCAA basketball tournament. You know, I just can't wait for college sports to eat themselves because this is basically what they're going to do. I'm so tired of it. And the only reason is because they want more money. Yes, they want more games, more money. Follow the money, but 76 teams now, apparently are going to get into the NCAA tournament. It's all being waited to be voted upon. Look, it was 64 for ages 68. They snuck in the first four, the last what? 10 years. Now 76. It doesn't matter that much to me, but I think 76 is just the next step to what I really don't want. And that's 128 or God forbid, just letting every team in, just having a tournament where every team makes it. I mean, it's perfect the way it is. So do I and that's not me being a broke. Don't fix it as the saying go. There's there's a there's a certain pressure to be good enough to make the tournament. Right. It's like always, but the argument is is that there's five or six teams that get left out each year. But you know what, if you go to 76, then the next five teams after that, we'll have an argument that they were left out. There's always going to be somebody left out unless you clued every team. So stop using that as an excuse for expanding the field. I talked about this last week, but the big 12 football conference is shopping their name so that they can become so they're going to give away the big 12. They're going to be calling it. Yes, they want to be a black 12 or something like that. They want to be the preparation age, big 12 or something. I hope that that would be amazing. But like college sports to me, that was a good one. That's Nick, everybody. He's running the board for us. College sports to me right now is becoming so greedy that I don't even want to deal with it. Okay. Yeah, well, I'm saying, okay, because I'm kind of right with you. College sports is bugging me right now. All right, let's do a little daily gambit. Check some winners and losers out. Do you like money? I think about money. Do you like money without doing anything? That winning. Do you want to make money while watching sports? I think Washington is immortal luck. Washington, woo hoo! If you answer yes, this is your segment. Just don't blame us when you lose. Nothing is ever your fault. It's your game. Take it. And guess what? It's happening on Saturday. Chris Ello's birthday, everybody. He's going to be 93 years old. The same is really me. He's happy. Happy early birthday, Chris. Alrighty. Yes, 93 or so. It feels that way. Sometimes having to work with you on a daily basis. I can understand why. Here's that up. All right, go for it. All right, we don't. I don't think we have any carryover bets because we really haven't done a show. All right, you're right. You know, NBA Finals finished. We talked about Stanley Cup. They get back to work tomorrow night with Game 6 in Edmonton. It's getting interesting now, right? Florida won the first three. Edmonton has not only won the last two, but they have really kind of dominated play. So, you know, we'll see that could be about a once in every 20 years occurrence where a team can come from three nothing down to win a best to seven series. Edmonton still has a long way to go though. Game 6 is tomorrow night. The other thing that's been going on. I've been thinking don't know if you've been checking in on the College World Series at all. Here and there. All right, Tennessee and Texas A&M, which kind of bugs me because it's all SEC and I get tired hearing about the SEC. But it is what it is. They have the best teams and they'll be playing for the championship, starting tomorrow night at best of three Final Series. Some games tonight include the WNBA's New York Liberty, favored by 14 and a half points. So, over your favorite team, Scrabby, the L.A. Sparks. Hey, the fever are getting good. Fever is improving. They've been playing a little softer part of their schedule. But yeah, you know, Caitlin Clark, they could just get through all the noise and let her play. You know, she's doing all right. Yeah, she really is. She had a big game last night. Cameron Brink, the young star for the L.A. Sparks, out of Stanford, suffered the old torn ACL though. No, she did. A couple of days ago. I didn't realize that. Yeah, I think she's out for the year. That was exciting. And it was just so... Oh, I feel better for her. So stinky because she didn't... Stinky. Well, I'm sorry. No, I know you're worse. You say a swear word. Yeah, she didn't... There was no contact. She just took a bad step, trying to dribble down the lane. That's such a bummer. The knee goes and you hate to see something really featured big time. Really, she's been a big part of the resurgence of this league. So that's too bad. That is too bad. So anyway, it's the Liberty and the Sparks in New York. I'm going Sparks just to cover it. You're going to take the Sparks just for Cameron? No, just for the 14 and a half points that I'm getting. All right, I'm going to say that the Sparks are down and out because she's hurt and I'll take New York. Give the big point spread there. Who scores more points tonight in that game? Is it Brianna Stewart of the Liberty or Sabrina Ionescu of the Liberty? They're both on the Olympic team. They're both phenomenal players. I think Stewart, people don't remember this. She was the NCAA MVP and NCAA champion. I believe all four years she was at UConn. Wow. Not one, two, every year. Not one, not two. Yeah, she's good. Ionescu is very good too. I'll take Ionescu after all that great talk of Stewart. Say, I'll give her I'll give Ionescu the night. Brianna Stewart is averaging 19 and 9. Right. Let's see where Ionescu is. I just need to do this for my own research. I'm gambling responsibly. That's fine. New York 12 and 3. For some reason the internet in this building today is incredibly slow and it's really bothering me. Sorry about that. Everything's really bothering me today. Does seem that way. Um, okay, come on. This is ridiculous. I should be able to get to the roster page a little bit closer, quicker than this. Sabrina, Ionescu. Don't worry. We have only we still have an hour left on the show. So take your time. Good, good. Here I am. 17 and 4, 17, 4, and 6. Nice. So 19 or 17, who are you taking? I'm going to go against you. I'm going to take Brianna Stewart. Okay. Padres are home. Brewers are favored by one and a half runs tonight. Run line. Who you like? I don't know. I don't know Chris. Got any faith? I have faith. And the Friars, Mazars, Pitching, you probably have less faith with that in mind. I'm going to go home where they've been better. Sorry, Brewers. Wow. Sorry, Brewers. Yeah. I mean, what have they shown me? Who, the Padres? Yeah. That they're a 500 team. Exactly. And that's why they're going to win tonight. Because they're under 500 and they've got to win a couple to get back to 500. And you get the plus one. I'll take the runs. Uh, who pitches longer tonight? More innings. Bryce Wilson and Milwaukee. Andy Maisure. Not Andy. I keep calling him Andy. And we have been since the very beginning. Sorry about that. It's in reference to the former broadcaster. Adam Maisure or Bryce Wilson. I'll take Maisure. Come on. Throw some strikes. Padres got to get deep in the bullpen. Who are we picking for this? I don't know. I'm talking out loud. Is it the winner or what? Inning's pitch. Inning's pitch. Who pitches longer? Who gets more outs? Maisure or Bryce Wilson. I'll just tell you right now. Bryce Wilson. I'm out right now. Wow. I'm out. Well, you don't care. No, I do. No, you said you don't care. You're not going to care until August 1st. I'll take Maisure just for fun. Giants and Cardinals tonight. They're playing the... It's not an exhibition game. It's a real game. Counts in the standings. They're playing down a liquid field in Alabama. A lot of emotions tonight. Tony and I have our little tribute to Willie Mais coming up in the next segment. Giants are favored by a run and a half over the Cardinals. You almost have to take the Giants here. Yeah, I feel like they're going to play for Willie. Play for Willie. Play for the say hey kid. All right. There you go. All right. There's our daily gambit. We will check a little traffic. And then Tony rejoins me. Real poignant little sound here from the other day. Dave Fleming is one of the best in the business on K&BR, the Giants Network. Having to announce the passing of Willie Mais during the game the other night. Here a little of that. And then Tony and I have our tribute to the say hey kid next. So we found out just a little while ago on the Giants have now made an announcement. Here's a ground ball to second. Estrada throws out Pete Crow Armstrong. The all-time greatest giant. Number 24 Willie Mais has passed away today at the age of 93. And right as we get ready to head to his hometown in honor of great Willie Mais. We have to say goodbye. That was Dave Fleming on the K&BR Giants broadcast just a couple of days ago as we're all well aware. Welcome back to Gwen and Chris Cressello. And of course Tony Gwen Jr 48 hours or so ago we all found out the news. That's how Dave Fleming had to pass it along to Giants fans very poignant. To listen to him have to make it through he barely could speak the words. And Tony it's you know it's been a couple of days but you know this is this is not the passing of a legend. This is a passing of something even more than that. You know Willie Mais just the there's there's there's specialness and just the just the very name Willie Mais it brings a spark to everybody and nothing says baseball like Willie Mais and his passing. I'm sure the Padres will you know make mention of it before the game tonight as they get back home. Yeah there was a picture kind of going around of Martin Luther King meeting Willie Mais look like for the first time and you talked about you just been saying how he was it was more than like a a legend right and you could see that in Martin Luther King's face as he's meeting him for the first time was one of like wow that's Willie Mais right you know. Imagine Martin Luther King thinking that about anyone. Right exactly and you know that just kind of you know speaks to the way I mean listen Dave Fleming is far removed from Willie Mais's time of playing right but you see the still the emotion that he had in trying to deliver the news that Willie Mais has passed away and I think you see it in so many different generations. Again this is another you know why he why Willie Mais is different. I mean that touched obviously the remaining players that are still around from his generation the generation after so you're talking like the Aussie Smiths the Eddie Murray's of the world the generation after that so now you're talking the Barry Bonds the King Griffey's then the generation after that you're talking the C.C. Sibath he is you're talking you know guys who played in my era and the generation after that the guys who are playing now look that's a look how long that stretches in terms of how many generations of baseball players he's touched and so obviously this is a void that can't be replaced. Yeah very well said Tony I mean it's been 50 years since Willie Mais suited up and played in a in a big league ball game 1973 the the World Series and he was a shell of himself playing for the New York Mets and you know that's a memory that a lot of people have unfortunately because it was color television and you know people got a really a chance to see but that wasn't Willie Mais I was just the very tail end of it I mean his career started in 1951 and you know everything that he accomplished has been gone over and over I'm curious did you ever get a chance to I mean I never got a chance to be in a room with Willie Mais I don't know did you Tony or did your dad I imagine your dad did I got to be in the same room as Willie Mais a couple times I know my dad did yeah and you know now they can have many more conversations together but I think you know it's just it's one of those things that I mean I think we all knew you know Willie was getting older but it just never feels like that's it that day's ever going to come and then when it comes I mean when I heard the news like instant sadness came came across my you know my chest yeah and you know I think that's how all the baseball is feeling right now you know Tony you were the one several years ago that opened my eyes to this way of thinking and what I'm talking about is I believe for the better part of my life most people felt that Babe Ruth was the greatest baseball player of all time he hit he pitched he was the very sport the very nature of the sport but I think your way of explaining to all of us that Babe Ruth did not play in an integrated league and it's something that needs to be you know worked into the equation you know black players were not allowed to play baseball when Babe Ruth played now when Willie Mayes came in the sport had just been integrated a few years earlier and I think now that we all take everything into account it seems like the torch has passed to a certain extent I don't know anybody who really doesn't go out and say that they believe Willie Mayes is the greatest player of all time yeah he's a five-tool player the only reason Willie Mayes is a five-tool player is because they don't have six tools right I mean if they if there was something else about a baseball player he had it you know whether it was instinctual ability to you know to run the bases the way he did the the way he was able to get a break on the ball he didn't have any analytics to line him up in center field when a batter came up he just knew instinctually where to be and if he wasn't in the right spot he ran the ball down anywhere anyway you know so it's really difficult for us to to couch you know exactly how great he was there's not enough footage of him unfortunately for us to see but I think he he goes down now as the greatest ever Tony oh and by the way my man missed a whole year and some change almost two years right for the war just imagine what his numbers would have looked like at that point you know if he had the the opportunity to to keep going yeah no I mean yeah I think you know in terms of being you know considered the greatest player I mean he his is a valid you know as you said his the game was integrated you know Jackie Robinson came in and what forty seven seven and Willie uh came in 51 was his rookie year so I mean if yeah just look at the MVPs after the game is integrated I mean there's there's many guys and and a lot of people who were around that time and our saw Willie play said that he should have wore one far more than the two that he won right the Giants really weren't all that great right during that era and that's what kept him from winning of quite a few more I want to ask you one more thing Tony on the Willie May's subject because it came up in our round table I think it's interesting because we talk about players then versus players today and Willie May's was I don't know maybe five ten five eleven hundred seventy five hundred and eighty pounds he wasn't uh you know he wasn't doesn't Aaron Judge stature no I mean he wasn't a hulking figure by any stretch uh you know was he as athletic uh as some of these guys that he have the uh the the video capabilities of your dad or the players what they use today and so people say could Willie amaze you know played well today could he have he had a 100 mile per hour fastball I don't know you might be able to say about some of the guys but I think Willie would have found a way I you know it's a it's kind of a it's kind of a lame argument to me in some ways and here's why if Willie May's as we know him grew up in the same time frame he would have had the all of the luxuries that the players now have right he would have he would have you know been exposed to the velocity a lot earlier like if you just took him like if we like went back in time and I snatched Willie May's out of the 50s and just and he had never in you know encountered any of this stuff about the drop them in I can't believe you're doing that to talk about the drop them into the right now yeah I mean it might be it might be a little bit different but if he grew up same athlete same size in today's day and age yeah of course he would have been able to I think I don't think this is uh I don't think as much of a question now you know obviously they didn't have that we have now right I mean if you would have gave Willie May's a full-on training facility like the ones we have now I have zeroed out yeah I have zeroed out not even given it like if he had just grown up around that time yeah you know this this this era no doubt that he would have been the same Willie May's no doubt yeah I agree Tony well tonight the Padres play their first home game since the passing of the legendary Willie May's I know the Giants aren't in town it's the Brewers but I fully expect that I mean the Giants are in Willie May's hometown Rick would fight tonight yes they're playing that game in St. Louis which is wild kind of dedicated to the whole Willie May's thing yeah yeah the timing of that is uh is hard to imagine honestly it's gonna be a lot of emotion there but I think there'll even be some emotion out at Petco Park I you know I believe that the Padres are gonna certainly make mention of it and I know one person will be standing up applauding and that'll be me and probably just about everybody else so I take it you're coming to the game today I'm coming to the game today yeah so I will see you guys later tonight yeah well this is an important homestead I get to get out there oh it's an important homestead that's right all right more going and Chris coming up as we work our way towards Sam Levitt's pregame show and also our round table which precedes that at about 4.30 this afternoon Scrabie uh one last thing on Willie mays this is like high brow Jugger's Yola telling the story remember the broadcaster's Gher's Yola played for the Cardinals previous to that but talking about Willie Mays told the story that somebody said Mays's defense was so good that his glove was where triples go to die i like that i love that line triples go to die Willie mays all right um we got the big five coming up here and then uh we'll have Chris first the fans at the top of the hour going towards 4.30 in the pottery round table discussion commercial free pottery talk right now Gwen and is possibly going to the game tonight so could be out there you're gonna be grabbing spiro's i should you should i should go tell him who i am yeah you should if you walk up and they're like excuse me sir who are you that's right i'll try that i am mr spiro's spiro's yeah all right number five so last night you darvish made the start for the fort wainton caps a rehab start a they were playing the wisconsin timber rattlers which is a fun name and they fell behind quickly darvish pitched three and a third innings and gave up one homerun seven hit sixer and runs in one walk while striking out three batters as the tin caps lost eight to three darv said after the game quote i was able to throw most of my pitches which was good i thought the splitter and the slider were working very nicely now it's time to get back on the big league mound and get into real competition end quote which i thought was some strange straight way to say enough you give up eight runs but todie what is the goal of a rehab start in this case because i think immediately fans see this and be like oh gosh he gave up all these runs to a fahai a team what's wrong with them but what do you think is the goal for this in this case to come back healthy that is that is the only goal you're not down there to punch out 15 you're just down there to come back healthy and to know that you can actually you know do the job for him you know he went he didn't want to go five plus innings and so can he do that can he get through a start that has no ramifications on uh his ball club and where he can you know get some live real game action ab the only place you can do that is down to minor leagues and so listen i have been one of those guys who is a minor leader facing a big leaguer you are a thousand percent trying to have the best game of your life and a hundred percent you know it probably two days before oh sudden says rehab at all you make sure that day is right and it's not um it's not new for a guy to go down there and get hit up a little bit that's kind of how it usually goes right they they it's almost like the same adrenaline you get in the third week of spring training when you're throwing the baseball just like all right just got to get through this so i can get to the real thing here and so i just i'm just happy that you've reported that he was healthy i mean the mere fact that he was saying that the slider and the split worked nicely means in my mind that he's taking it a whole lot series that some other guys do when they go down there for rehab so that's a good thing uh Chris what is the purpose of a rehab start in this case well there's two things uh one is one is everything that tony said and i think that was probably accomplished by you darberish the second thing was that when you go down to make a rehab start like that for the uh the kids in high a you bring your checkbook with you and you buy a spread to end all spreads and have it delivered at the clubhouse and he did and you darberish did that so kudos to you darberish for taking care of those guys down there that is the other thing you're doing that's right right you're you're either checking your calendar like oh i'm gonna get this dude i'm a busses you know what or or you're gonna say oh we got a good after game meal today i'll say one thing though if the tin caps lose the opponent down there by one game they can look back to you darberish is starting you know yes yes yes good for you guys those young guys in september when they're like on eer like that darn you darberish came down here i know it's just a game now the season's over yeah he's gonna get back into quote-unquote real competition soon guys yes at least you didn't destroy any tv's you know what the saying is you know like he played better yes that's the thing you know like you come on up to where the real competition is young man yes he's not chrysale he didn't destroy tv either so we're good with that um all right we talked about a little bit earlier but willy mays and and all of that tonight the giants and cardinals are going to square off in their first regular season a a lula a l l that was tough game ever played a historic rickwood field in bermingham alabama the site where the bermingham black barons of the negro leagues played for nearly 40 years and were more than 180 future hall famous showcase their skills the event dubbed mlb at rickwood field attribute to the negro leagues we'll pay homage to is it homage or homage i think it's homage but i think you would have me say homage because you don't like when i say usedin well okay good point chrys so we're gonna go with homage today all right and uh they're gonna pay homage to the state of rich history also is going to be a time to remember the life and legacy of willy mays who passed away at the age of 93 on tuesday chrys will we still be talking about willy mays 50 years from now oh are you kidding of course we will and uh i mean we're talking about babe ruth a hundred years after he played and we're talking about willy mays for 500 years after he plays so i mean he's he's the standard for you know the way the game's supposed to be played i mean hitting with power and speed and there's still probably never been a better center fielder and that's 50 years ago and there's probably still never been a better base runner and that's 50 years ago yeah willies you know it's like kind of they said what they said jerry west passed you know there are legends and then they're jerry west i mean the same goes and maybe even more so for willy mays i mean how about that though i mean you lose those two guys two iconics yeah i mean you can make the argument that they need to change the mlb local to to willy mays right in wouldn't that be great idea rob to have both of those you lose both of those guys in the span of what a week yeah it's just it's crazy life comes at you fast i think that's a great idea though tony change it to willy mays i mean the silhouette of it's nobody it's just some guy standing there waiting for a ball to come in make it willy mays some guy i mean that is what baseball is saying make it willy mays i i don't disagree i don't disagree at all like him catching the ball over his shoulders or just even his famous you could tell his silhouette from his follow through in his batting stance uh-huh either way okay number three uh all right so owners in the NFL are getting a little scared about these quarterback contracts and so uh more eyebrows are being raised at the inevitability of record-setting dollar amounts of the position every time someone signs a new deal the league is well aware of the situation according to nfl media with some team owners privately discussing the possibility of a separate cap on quarterback salaries the reasoning tom pelisero of the nfl network said on the rich isent show is that quote at some point you want quarterback numbers to not go over a certain percent of your salary cap for example the bangles joe burrow earns an nfl leading average of fifty five million a year uh on the extension he signed last season which means his deal alone is projected to account for nearly twenty five percent of the bangles entire cap for twenty twenty four uh the idea according to pelisero has not really gain traction among nfl owners but they are thinking about it in part because so many teams have paid their quarterback already so there's like i don't care anymore i already paid my guy tony uh should quarterbacks have a salary cap on their position absolutely not i was trying to somehow get more money back in this whole here he goes he's right he's right i mean that's only what this is oh wait the money's going up too much yeah they don't have to sign these contracts the owners you know exactly nobody's holding a gun to their head they're the ones that they want to go back they have to listen my dad used to tell me this all the time as it pertains to uh cap no cap right and you're seeing it right now they have a cap in the nfl yet they still can't be saved from themselves ultimately and so you can put a cap in all you want eventually that becomes the conversation if the sport is still growing and still making money right because they have a cap now they want a cap quarterback like that's that's that is this no they have short answer no they don't chris do quarterbacks need their own salary cap absolutely not but i think that every quarterback should automatically make a certain amount of money if they're a starting quarterback which means it's time the 49ers play a pay Brock Ferdy so that they have to get on a level playing field with the rest of the nfl the 49ers have a huge advantage because they're the only team in the league that has a quarterback making five dollars who's a starter oh i'm sorry they found a good quarterback therefore able to pay the rest of their roster and get more players and everybody that is an inherent advantage that they and only they have chris the check is gonna come do soon though brother we will be we will be laughing and having a good old hardy time when they can't afford to pay somebody because somebody i mean kafri's got paid he just now they want to they're trying to tell us they want to keep i you know i'm right i you could told us differently right um they paid uh Williams right the offensive tackle if i'm not oh yes yes uh what's his name a vitrally eventually that check is coming to mr. 49er i can't wait but unfortunately we have to wait another year or two before it does and i mean fortunately and then you know what's even better about it chris as long as they don't win while it's cheap oh we get to keep burying mr. scraping it will hurt though when they sign Brock Ferdy to the biggest a real contract of the nfl history because just seems how that goes. Brock Ferdy deserves it though he's a great guy. Yes he does. Yes he didn't give the man his money. Pay the man when he's supposed to give the man his money and take some of those free star players you have on your team. You know what i uke is just like posting on TikTok conversations that he's having with jaden daniels now so he can go if he doesn't want to be a 49er he can leave. Boy is he not allowed to talk to jaden daniels is that like no he no but this whole off-season with i maybe take it personally if anybody pay the man he wants to be i said hey him i don't know that he's worth top five wide receiver money which he thinks now he's not worth top five he might be worth top mr. dibo is hurt and you need a wide receiver to get you some yaks he's getting it for you now you know what now you don't know if he's worth it ain't just get rid of one of them because i'm tired of both of them complaining in the off-season about sure you are listening to the show you're tired of them complaining and tired of losing the first two games of the season because you got rid of them all right number two you guys know me too well uh speaking of a guy who is under some fire dion sanders coach prime shared a hopeful message on x uh i think it was over the weekend about what's ahead for his colorado football locker room but once again denied the report that he forced his players to attend the prime weekend little wane concert to support shador's wrapping and that's such an action cause an exodus from the program in the may transfer portal window he tweeted quote even the lies can't stop what god is doing with this program with our beautiful city concerning our wonderful campus he's hardworking young man and the campers that's coming this week i absolutely love it now athlete atlorn sports is steve quarter started the media firestorm by reporting from his team source that dion making the little will wane concert mandatory was the final straw for several cu players quote the wane concert was the final straw for a few players who hit the transfer portal when coach prime told us we all had to be there to support shador as a rapper they were not happy at all to be honest it was nothing but a huge distraction and daddy ball was being played not really sure what daddy ball is but end quote what are we talking about here i don't know we're talking about a question in our future yes yes yes who do you believe chris uh i who dion sanders are steve from aflon magazine no i mean yes i guess yes yeah i think you i think i just i think it just gave you the answer to that one dang it why can't you work for a more reputable source steve aflon magazine is going to make dion sanders worry chrich literally took the words i was about to say yeah who what is aflon i mean what is that aflon not i think i've heard of him i never heard of either i think dion's going to get the last laugh i don't know but i'm going to root for him to get the last laugh on all the nate the dion naysayers out there who want him to fail and i think a lot of people for some reason want him to fail because he's doing it his way or the highway and i say more power to him i can't believe you you do this tony who do you believe in this whole thing steve it's definitely don't believe steve he hasn't believed steve at all and i would like to know who these couple of transfer portal guys are too yeah like the backup backup backup probably guys that aren't playing exactly that it's it's usually i mean if my coach told me i had to go listen to shadora rap i'd be able to and if you were the starting wide receiver making 500 000 a year you'd go to the concert but if you were a backup two-bit defensive tackle making 10 grand you'd say yes my ticket out of here number one um the Kansas City Chiefs unveiled their rings and chris might be a little angry at the disrespect that the ring maker showed towards the audience yes but so they they debuted the rings on the inside of the ring which commemorates their championship the score of each of the chief's postseason victories is listed including the seating of each opponent the ring has the Miami Dolphins listed as a seven seed when in fact chris they wore a uh six seed playing like a seven seed i was looking for the six seeds uh yeah now now this was talked about on the Kelsey podcast because it was kind of hilarious but Jason Kelsey pointed out that you know the major goof that's on the ring Travis Kelsey said i don't give a bleep um i can't say the rest of it because there's an effort in that he's like no i like it that we didn't give a bleep about what seed Miami is they were seven who cares no they're actually cis they could have done no seeds on the side of them i would have been fired so Travis Kelsey uh said that the ring actually the error makes the ring his most unique ring that he has because that is true now tony should they care about the mistake on the ring boom that's a good question should the dolphins write a letter of complaint because they're not gonna rate do these because they're not recognized properly should the chief's organization care no no i mean i'm sure they would have liked to gotten it right i mean i'm sure you don't spend this kind of money and hope that you have a misspelled name or any of that stuff in there but i think ultimately they'll make do with it being a what is it six an incorrect six seed i believe or yeah they're saying is a seven seed when they were actually a six they've trashed the Miami dolphins image a seven seed we would never be a seven seed except for the year before when they were a seven seed i don't think the dolphins have a lot to complain about it is got a big step yeah mistakes happen is all i'll say i know they did an interview the other day mistakes happen this is a massive mistake listen they did an interview the other day with julia lewy dreyfus the actors from seinfeld hey and she talked about when she was inducted into the hollywood walk of star fame and got her star on hollywood boulevard uh-huh they mispronounced her middle name lewy they spelled it louise oh they spelled it it's supposed to be l o u i s they spelled it l-u-i-s and she went to be inducted and you know get her hold honorable moment and she looks down and they got her name spelled wrong that's really funny mistakes happen that's really good all right when we get back chris vs the fans it's been a while since we played a eight three three two eight eight oh nine seven three get in line all right heading into the final half hour of our thursday get together chrysello toning and junior down at petco park where tonight the pottery start a four-game set where the first place milwakay brewers milwakay milwakay pardry's begin play a half-game back of both st lewis and arizona who currently hold the final two wild card playoff spots in the national league brewers own a seven and a half-game lead over the redbirds in the nl central you know the uh manager the brewers is don't you yes uh murphy pat murphy he was a short time manager of the pardry's the pardry's yes look at me yeah you're doing well he jumped in there when somebody or other was let go with about a month ago in the season was it andy green maybe it was andy green so that was he rod baras or was rod baras chase tingler that's why i said he was there to look that's why i said he was there for someone or another i didn't remember what year it was i just know pat murphy was the pardry skipper for a brief amount of time notice seemed to really care one way or another that he was skipper of the pardry's you know what i mean like it went kind of unnoticed it was 2015 so it had to have been uh anti-green yeah oh no sorry but black oh he came in when bud left yes there we go but black i just i just saw it just saw all right so yeah but i i tell you one thing i i think you know pat murphy's among those in the running for nationally manager the year right now and who else would you give it to can you give it to the fillies i mean they're already good the dodgers aren't doing better than anyone else dave roberts is doing it so much with that team that's you kidding me he he lost mookie bets for a long time and roberts show you tony is okay you know what take down the cross on top amounts all of them but statue dave roberts right up there and i was joking for anybody thinks i was concerned i know oh my god i'm gonna get the christian you're gonna get talking to uh adam's already adam's already standing outside the door hey i'm in trouble um but yeah i think pat murphy'd be the guy a nationally manager the year right now i think i'd vote for him trying to think so good luck uh to the padres against the brew crew starting tonight um all right there's is there anything going oh my goodness what baltimore putting it hurting on the yankies today yeah 17 to 5 wow uh with that win the Orioles will be just it's not over yet they're in the ninth but with that the Orioles are moving in a half game of the yanks in the american league east uh oh i really look out there's cracks in the yankies foundation look out post-game spread in the yankies stadium locker room here comes erin boone who looking to topple over a trade or two not gonna be pleased you know whenever someone i do see someone knocking over a food table it really angers me it's like really like someone spent time making that food and now it's on the that's the part of it it's not the old dad there's you know people starving and i you know someone believe that because but that food's not gonna get to where it needs to go it's not gonna go there but it wasn't gonna go there anyway no you're right here's the bottom line is what you just said is that somebody actually worked hard on making that food like you're gonna knock it over you know trash in it trash in it people ridiculous all right we're gonna play a little christ first the fans here a chance for you to win what's gravy oh you are gonna be qualified for a chance to win a grand prize a two-night state fought in blue Las Vegas tickets to either hoodie and the blowfish or smash and pump get smashing blowfish right um yeah over smashing pumpkins yes i like smashing pumpkins but i like hoodie because um dolphins make him cry and you know that you know about the song that's from that's from his most famous song i don't know much about hoodie in the blowfish okay their very first hit was uh... i can't remember the name of it off hand the word okay i can remember the tune but part of it is that the dolphins make make him cry that's one of the one of the lyrics in the song and he said that he's a dolphins fan miami dolphins i have hold my hand no i got wind nope letter cry nope time nope only want to be with you yes let's see only want to be with you hold on let's see yeah that was their first hit that was their first hoodie in the blowfish and he's a big miami dolphin fan i did know that i did know that so he uses the lyric dolphin the dolphins make me cry oh god you're gonna play the dolphins make me cry definitely heard this song oh yeah just play it for a second play it for a second you hear the dolphins make me cry it's early in the song i think it is early in the song hoodie the blowfish i'm 97 with you thanks that's right come from different worlds you like to laugh at me when i look at other girls sometimes i'm crazy then you wonder why i'm such a baby it's a dolphins make me cry there you go and he's talking about the football he's talking about the miami dolphins yeah so that's why i'd go see who's going to blowfish i appreciate that all right uh all right let's get to the game yes that's what people want to want to hear uh oh by the way before we get into the game i have to read the rules and i have something to say about the callers so you have to make it through three questions each question will get more difficult if you get the question right you move authentic Mediterranean cuisine in cornado or la hoya for dining or take out options visit spiro's cuisine dot com cranks don't forget they're at pecco park they are going to the game tonight grab a little spiro's i heard chris is possibly going to the game tonight so could be out you're going to be grabbing spiro's nice should you should i mean go tell them who i am if you walk up and they're like excuse me sir who are yes right i'll try that i am mr spiro's spirits yes all right so last night you darvish made the start for the fort wainton cats a rehab start a they were playing the wisconsin timber rattlers which is a fun name and they fell behind quickly darvish pitched three and a third innings and gave up one homerun seven hit sixer and runs in one walk while striking out three batters as the tin caps lost eight to three darvish said after the game quote i was able to throw most of my pitches which was good i thought the splitter and the slider were working very nicely now it's time to get back on the big league mount and get into real competition and quote which i thought was a strange way to say after you give up eight runs but to be what is the goal of a rehab start in this case because i think immediately fans see this and be like oh gosh he gave up all these runs to a for high a team what's wrong with them but what do you think is the goal for this in this case to come back healthy that is that is the only goal you're not down there to punch out 15 you're just down there to come back healthy and to know that you can actually you know do the job for him you know he went he didn't go five plus innings and so can he do that can he get through a start that has no ramifications on uh his ball club and where he can you know get some live real game action ab the only place you can do that is down to minor leagues and so listen i i have been one of those guys who is a minor league or facing a big leaguer you are a thousand percent trying to have the best game of your life 100 percent you know it probably two days before oh sudden says rehab at all you make sure that day is right and it's not um it's not new for a guy to go down there and get hit up a little bit that's kind of how it usually goes right day they it's almost like the same adrenaline you get in the third week of spring training when you're throwing the baseball just like all right just got to get through this so i can get to the real thing here and so i just i'm just happy that you've reported that he was healthy i mean the mere fact that he was saying that the slider and the split worked nicely means that in my mind that he's taking it a whole lot serious that some other guys do when they go down there for rehab stuff so that's a good thing uh chris what is the purpose of a rehab start in this case well there's two things uh yes one is it one is everything that tony said and i think that was probably accomplished by you darvis the second thing was that when you go down to make a rehab start like that for the uh the kids in high a you bring your checkbook with you and you buy a spread to end all spreads and have it delivered to the clubhouse and he did and you darvis did that so kudos to you darvis for taking care of those guys down there that is the other thing you're doing that's right right you're you're either checking your calendar like oh i'm gonna get this dude i'm a bust is you know what or or you're gonna say oh we got a good after game meal today i'll say one thing though if the tin caps lose the opponent down there by one game they can look back to you darvis just start and you know yes yes yes good for you guys those young guys in september when they're like on eel like that dar new darvis she came down here and killed us it's a game now it's seasons over yeah he's gonna get back into quote-unquote real competition soon guys at least you didn't destroy any tv is you know like he played better yes that's the thing you know like you come on up to where the real competition is young man yes he's not chrysalis didn't destroy tv either so we're good with that um all right we talked about a little bit earlier but willy mays and and all of that tonight the giants and cardinals are gonna square off in their first regular season a a lua a l l that was tough game ever played a historic rickwood field in bermingham alabama the site where the bermingham black barons of the knee girlies played for nearly 40 years and we're more than 180 future hall famer showcase their skills the event dubbed mlb at rickwood field attribute to the knee girl leagues will pay homage to is it homage or homage uh i think it's homage but i think you would have me say homage because you don't like when i say uston well okay good point chris so we're gonna go with homage today all right and uh they're gonna pay homage to the state of rich history it also is gonna be a time to remember the life and legacy of willy mays who passed away at the age of 93 on tuesday chris will we still be talking about willy mays 50 years from now oh are you kidding of course we will and uh i mean we're talking about babe ruth a hundred years after he played and we're talking about willy mays for 500 years after he plays so i mean he's he's the standard for you know the way the game's supposed to be played i mean hitting with power and speed and there's still probably never been a better center fielder and that's 50 years ago and there's probably still never been a better bass runner and that's 50 years ago yeah willies you know it's like kind of similar to jerry west past you know they're legends and then they're jerry west i mean the same goes and maybe even more so for willy mays i mean how about that though i mean you lose those two guys two iconics yeah i mean you can make the argument that they need to change the mlb local to willie mays right in wouldn't that be great idea robert to have both of those you lose both of those guys in a span of what a week yeah it's just it's crazy life comes at you fast i think that's a great idea though tony changes willy mays i mean the school went it's nobody it's just some guys standing there waiting for a ball to come in make it willy mays some guy i mean that is what baseball is saying make it willy mays i i don't disagree i don't disagree at all like him catching the ball over his shoulders or just even his famous you could tell his silhouette from his follow through in his batting stance uh-huh either way okay number three uh all right so owners in the nfl are getting a little scared about these quarterback contracts and so uh more eyebrows are being raised at the inevitability of record-setting dollar amounts of the position every time someone signs a new deal the league is well aware of the situation according to nfl media with some team owners privately discussing the possibility of a separate cap on quarterback salaries the reasoning tom pelocero of the nfl network said on the rich isent show is that quote at some point you want quarterback numbers to not go over a certain percent of your salary cap for example the bangles joe burrow earns an nfl leading average of fifty five million a year uh on the extension he signed last season which means his deal alone is projected to account for nearly 25 percent of the bangles entire cap for 2024 uh the idea according to pelocero has not really gained traction among nfl owners but they are thinking about it in part because so many teams have paid their quarterback already so the owners are like i don't care anymore i already paid my guy tony uh should quarterbacks have a salary cap on their position absolutely not always trying to somehow get more money back in this whole hairy girls he's right he's right i mean i love me what this is i'll wait the money's going up too much yeah they don't have to sign these contracts the owners exactly nobody's holding a gun to their head they're the ones that they want to corner back they have to listen my dad used to tell me this all the time as it pertains to uh cap no cap right and you're seeing it right now they have a cap in the nfl yet they still can't be saved from themselves ultimately and so you can put a cap in all you want eventually that becomes the conversation if the sport is still growing and still making money right because they have a cap now they want to cap quarterbacks like that's that's that is this no they answer short answer no they don't chris do quarterbacks need their own salary cap absolutely not but i think that every quarterback should automatically make a certain amount of money if they're a starting quarterback which means it's time the 49ers play a pay Brock Ferdy so that they have to get on a level playing field with the rest of the nfl the 49ers have a huge advantage because they're the only team in the league that has a quarterback making five dollars who's a starter oh i'm saying they're feeling a good quarterback therefore able to pay the rest of their roster and get more players and everybody that is an inherent advantage that they and only they have chris the check is gonna come do soon though brother we will be we will be laughing and having a good old hardy time when they can't afford to pay somebody has somebody i mean kafri's got paid he just now they want to they're trying to tell us they want to keep i you know i'm right i you could told us differently right um they paid uh Williams right the offensive tackle if i'm not oh yes yes uh what's his name why a veteran would eventually that check is coming due mr. 49er i can't wait but unfortunately we have to wait another year or two before it does and unfortunately you know what's even better about it chris as long as they don't win while it's cheap oh we get to keep burying mr. scraping it will hurt though when uh they signed Brock Ferdy to the biggest contract of the nfl history because just seems how that goes Brock Ferdy deserves it though he's a great guy yes he does yes he didn't give the man his money pay the man when he gives the man his money and takes some of those free star players you have on your team you know what i uke is just like posting on tiktok conversations that he's having with jadon daniels now so he can go if he doesn't want to be a 49er he can leave boys he's not allowed to talk to jadon daniels is that like no he no but this whole off-season with i maybe takes it personally if anybody pay the man he wants to be i i said i am i don't know that he's worth top five wide receiver money which he thinks now he's not worth top five might be worth top mr. d bow is hurt and you need a wide receiver to get you some yaks he's getting it for you now you know what now you don't know if he's worth it ain't just get rid of one of them because i'm tired of both of them complaining in the off-season about sure you listen to the shot you're tired of them complaining and tired of them who's the first two two games of the season because you got rid of them all right number two you guys know me too well uh speaking of a guy who is under some fire deon sanders coach prime shared a hopeful message on ex uh i think it was over the weekend about what's ahead for his colorado football locker room but once again denied the report that he forced his players to attend the prime weekend little wane concert to support shador's rapping and that's such an action cause an exodus from the program in the may transfer portal window he tweeted quote even the lies can't stop what god is doing with this program with our beautiful city concerning our wonderful campus he's hardworking young man and the campers that's coming this week i absolutely love it now athlete Athlon sports is steve quarter started the media firestorm by reporting from his team source that deon making the little little wane concert mandatory was the final straw for several c u players quote the wane concert was a final straw for a few players who hit the transfer portal when coach prime told us we all had to be there to support shador as a rapper they were not happy at all to be honest it was nothing but a huge distraction and daddy ball was being played not really sure what daddy ball is but end quote what are we talking about here i don't know we're talking about a question or a few just yes yes who do you believe chris uh i who deon sanders are steve from athlon magazine no i mean yes i guess yes yeah i think you i think i just i think it just gave you the answer to that one dang it why can't you work for a more reputable source steve athlon magazine is going to make deon sanders worry chrich literally took the word i was about to say yeah who what is aveline yeah what is the athlon not i think i've heard of it i've never heard of either i think deon's going to get the last laugh i don't know but i'm going to root for him to get the last laugh on all the nate the deon naysayers out there who want him to fail and i think a lot of people for some reason want him to fail because he's doing it his way or the highway and i say more power to him i can't believe you you do this tony who do you believe in this whole thing steve it's definitely don't believe steve he doesn't believe steve he doesn't believe steve at all and i would like to know who these couple of transfer portal guys are too yeah like the backup backup backup probably guys that aren't playing exactly that's it's usually i mean if my coach told me i had to go listen to shadora rap i'd be out there and if you were the starting wide receiver making 500 000 a year you'd go to the concert but if you were a backup two-bit defensive tackle making 10 grand you'd say yes my ticket out of here number one um the Kansas City Chiefs unveiled their rings and chris might be a little angry at the disrespect that the ring maker showed towards the audience yes but so they they debuted the rings on the inside of the ring which commemorates their championship the score of each of the chiefs post-season victories is listed including the seating of each opponent the ring has the Miami Dolphins listed as a seven seed when in fact chris they wore a uh six seed playing like a seven seed i was looking for the six seeds yeah now now this was talked about on the Kelsey podcast because it was kind of hilarious but Jason Kelsey pointed out that you know the major goof that's on the ring Travis Kelsey said i don't give a bleep um i can't say the rest of it because there's an effort in that he's like no i like it that we didn't give a bleep about what seed Miami is they were seven who cares no they were actually cis they could have done no seeds on the side of them i would have been fine so Travis Kelsey uh said that the ring actually the error makes the ring his most unique ring that he has because that is true now tony should they care about the mistake on the ring oh that's a good question should the dolphins write a letter of complaint because they're not going to do these because they're not recognized properly should the chiefs organization care no no i mean i'm sure they would have liked to gotten it right i mean i'm sure you don't spend this kind of money and hope that you have a misspelled name or any of that stuff in there um but i think ultimately they'll make do with it being a what is it six an incorrect six seed i believe or yeah they're saying is a seven seed when they were actually a six they've trashed the Miami dolphins image a seven seed we would never be a seven seed except for the year before when they were a seven seed i don't think the dolphins have a lot to complain about it maybe it just got a big step that's it mistakes happen is all i'll say i know they did an interview the other day where mistakes happen this is a massive mistake listen they did an interview the other day with Julia Louis Dreyfus the actors from Seinfeld hey and she talked about when she was inducted into the hollywood walk of star fame and got her star on hollywood boulevard uh-huh they mispronounced her middle name lui they spell they they spelled it louise oh they spelled it it's supposed to be l-o-u-i-s they spelled it l-u-i-s and she went to be inducted and you know get her hold honorable moment and she looks down and they got her name spelled wrong that's really funny mistakes happen that's really exciting all right when we get back chris versus the fans been a while since we played a eight three three two eight eight oh nine seven three get in line all right heading into the uh final half hour of our thursday get together chrysello toniguan jr down at petco park where tonight the pottery start a four-game set where the first place milwake brewers milwake milwake pardrey's begin play a half-game back of both st louis and arizona who currently hold the final two wild card playoff spots in the national league brewers own a seven and a half-game lead over the red birds in the nl central you know the manager the brewers is don't you yes uh murphy pat murphy he was a short time manager of the pardrey's the pardrey's yes look at me yeah you're doing well he uh jumped in there when somebody rather was let go with about a month to go in the season was it andy green maybe it was andy green so now was he rod baras or was rod baras chase tingler that's why i said he was there to look that's why i said he was there for someone or another i didn't remember what year it was i just know pat murphy was the pardrey skipper for a brief amount of time notice seemed to really care one way or another that he was skipper of the pardrey's you know what i mean like it went kind of unnoticed it was 2015 so it had to have been uh andy green yeah oh no sorry but black oh he came in when bud left yes there we go but black i just i just saw just saw all right so yeah but i tell you one thing i i think you know pat murphy's among those in the running for national league manager the year right now and who else would you give it to can you give it to the fillies i mean they're already good the dodgers aren't doing better than anyone well dave robert's is doing so much with that team christian kidding me he he lost mookie bets for a long time day robert's show hoe tawny is okay you know what take down the cross on top of mount solo down but statue dave robert's right up there and i was joking for anybody who thinks i was confused oh my god i'm gonna get the christian you're gonna get talking to uh adam's already adam's already standing outside the door hey i'm in trouble um but yeah i think pat murphy'd be the guy uh national league manager the year right now i think i'd vote for him trying to think so good luck good to the pardrey's against the brew crew starting tonight um all right there's is there anything going oh my goodness what baltimore putting it's hurting on the yankies today yeah 17 to 5 wow uh with that win the orials will be just it's not over yet they're in the ninth but uh with that the orials are moving in a half game of the yanks in the american league east uh oh i really look out there's cracks in the yankies foundation look out post-game spread in the yankie stadium locker room here comes erin boone who looking to topple over a trade or two not going to be pleased you know whenever someone i do see someone knocking over a food table it really angers me it's like really like someone spent time making that food and now it's on the floor part of it it's not the old dad there's you know people starving and i you know someone believe that because but the food's not going to get to where it needs to go it's not going to go there but it wasn't going to go there anyway no here's the bottom line is what you just said is that somebody actually worked hard on making that food like can you and you're just like you know trash in it trash in it people ridiculous all right we're gonna play a little chris first the fans here a chance for you to win what scrappy oh you are going to be qualified for a chance to win a grand prize it's united state fought in blue los vegas tickets to either hootie and the blowfish or smash and pump get smashing pumpkins at the bell let me start that over at the blue live theater and a hundred and fifty dollar pool side dining gonna go see chris if you were to win this prize it would be hootie and the blowfish right um yeah over smashing pumpkins yes i like smashing pumpkins but i like hootie because um dolphins make him cry and you know that you don't know the song that's from that's from his most famous song i don't know much about hootie in the book okay their very first hit was uh... i can't remember the name of it off hand the word okay i can remember the tune but part of it is that the dolphins make make him cry that's one of the one of the lyrics in the song and he said that he's a dolphins fan miami dolphins i have hold my hand no i got one lined nope letter cry nope time nope only want to be with you yes let's see only want to be with you hold on let's see yeah that was their first hit that was their first hootie and the blowfish and he's a big miami dolphin fan i didn't know that i did know that so he uses the lyric dolphin the dolphins make me cry oh god you're gonna play the dolphins make me cry definitely heard this song oh yeah oh just play it for a second play it for a second you hear the dolphins make me cry it's early in the song i think it is early in the song hootie the blowfish i'm 97 with you fan that's right come from different worlds you like to laugh at me when i look at other girls sometimes i'm crazy then you wonder why i'm such a baby it's a dolphins make me cry there you go and he's talking about the football he's talking about the miami dolphins yeah that's great so that's why i'd go see who do the blowfish all right all right let's get to the game yes that's what people want to want to hear uh oh by the way before we get into the game i have to read the rules and i have something to say about the callers so you have to make it through three questions each question will get more difficult if you get the question right you move on if you get it wrong and chris gets it right you're eliminated but if chris gets it wrong then you move on to the next question or you win if you're one of those people who tells me you call all the time and you never get selected and then i set you up with a spot in the game and you don't call you can never complain about it again so there i just had to get that out chris i set someone up and they just didn't call even though they set them up and told them how to get in so they could play yes and then they didn't take advantage of your no they tell me they aren't holding it every single day right and they never get through and you helped them get through and they didn't take advantage of it yeah i understood all right i want you to know that for game purposes i've never helped anyone all right let's go with our first contestant for today and if you're first time play let us know because you get the first question for free if you are but let's go to omar omar are you there i'm here all right you ready to play i'm ready and i'm first time play with first time play here we go question number two omar you're on your way all right Ivan Rodriguez finished his hall of fame catching career with what team oh oh pudge uh the ranger the rangers stay there omar yeah he started with the rangers he went to the world series with the marlins but i thought he jumped in with giants after the marlins giants wow no nationals it was no i think you're thinking of um benji melina huh with the i got confused yeah he was with the nationals to finish his career you know regas why may just not you know that's fair you're always you wake me question i'm making nerve is wrong before i don't know if anybody knows that i just remember if yes washington national two years of the amount of rega said played for it i said texas and florida marlins and then i thought anyway i mean he's actually played for six teams in his career 21 years total he played for the rangers the tigers the nationals the yankis the astros and the marlins yeah the yankis for 33 games don't remember that speaking speaking of the yankis they picked up our old friend tim hill today they did tim hill was d_f_a_ by the royals uh white socks white socks you're right what a lucky break that was yes white socks he just went from 45 games out of first place to in first place that is that is awesome for him and guess what omar's one question away from yes maybe going to las vegas all right omar let's get back to you ready let's do this all right question number three there have been three pajre's players to homer twice in a game this season name all three whoa um all three all three homer twice in a game um yeah that's the first one i'm gonna go with uh mom Fernando Fernando okay gonna need these a little bit quicker yeah okay okay Fernando um three uh cilantro and uh mani and mani stay there omar well i'm pretty sure cilantro and uh jackson maryll or two of them because i did it last week uh so the only other one i don't know is fernando but i think that one's right like we'll call it early in the year those are my guesses i'm sorry omar sorry omar try again omar try good having you on play again i have a little better luck next time yes fernando donven slano and jackson maryll donven slano and jackson maryll did in the same game right yeah that was just very recently yes all right so let's go to our next contestant and that will be lance hello lance how's it going can you hear me yes i can are you ready to play i kind of i'm working delivering mail but i'll pull over right now the mail must wait yes i love it rain sleet or christmas or the fans doesn't stop the mail from being delivered all right here we go lance question number one which pajre player made a rehab start for the fort weighing tin caps yesterday you correct christmas looked at me like what oh yeah he's saying you i just scared a couple of dogs in the neighborhood all right question number two what uh actually let me do this one it's one of those where i give you three names you're going to tell me what team these guys played for together not the year just the team are all this chatmen hoorhay solaire John Lester Chicago Cubs whoa oh lance nice job i thought that was going to throw people for a loop hoorhay solaire was a cub apparently so christ one was that 2016 really yes i would have not got that because of hoorhay solaire i wouldn't thought he's only been with the giants and the marlins he was definitely a royal oh he was a royal yeah you're right he was um making sure the cubs yeah that's who he started with the cubs all right did not know that the lance did that was amazing lance very good lance that was very good all right here we go one more question number three you get this right or chris gets it wrong and you're qualified for a chance to win a trip to las vegas who is the last switch hitter to win mvp in baseball last switch hitter to win mvp in baseball man i guess i'll go way back and go chipper jones chama stay there though stay there chipper jones was uh i was gonna go back further than that cuz i'm you know i'm weird uh micky mantle is a switch hitter oh micky he won some uh triple crown or triple crowns mvp's or what is it mvp mvp yeah i think he got me on this one wow unless unless his chipper jones is more recent than micky mantle and he wasn't correct right mm-hmm correct so i don't know i don't know any recent mvp's very well all right it's a nice job lance lance stay there lance uh it was jimmy rollins of the fillies jimmy yeah we've had him on the show before we asked we have he forgot to tell me that he was a switch hitting mvp when he was on the show how could he ever forget to do that yeah hi guys jimmy rollins here switch hitting mvp yeah i thought that's on his business card you would think so now it's good good lance is good though yeah lance was a good win lance uh now he's gonna have to hold up even longer before he delivers the mail i'm gonna have to give you his information but we'll let him do that while we take a quick timeout check traffic come back one final segment and i got to hear about this singing telegram job that you had you admitted on the round table i'm not forgetting about this bad mistake by me all right more on that and other sports news that you might be more interested in when gwen and chris resumes four twenty two is the time wrapping things up here uh coming up at the bottom of the hour uh it's all of us it's the uh weekly pottery round table myself pen and woods any and elston commercial free hour talking about nothing but pudrey's baseball uh we get into everything happening with your friars as they come home what is it 37 and 39 i don't look at the standings until august first chris so i don't know make sure 38 and 40 so there are two games under 500 they played a couple more games actually you know what uh saturday will be saturday will be halfway point yes the 81st game of the season for the pudrey's wow be exactly halfway through this season already uh we discuss all of it on the round table stay tuned for that for that did you see the call the other night in the rockies dodgers game which one uh i think it was uh tuesday night but um see the rockies had a nine to four lead um going into the ninth inning which is surprising in and it's undo itself that the rockies in the net elite over the dodgers yes uh jason hayward then had a grand slam mmm made a nine to eight and then the dodgers got two runners on with two out and i believe the batter was tayosker headernendes okay tayosker and the uh fine relief picture for the rockies uh through a little sharp breaking curveball in the outside corner with two strikes that tayosker hernendes swung at deposit in the game oh but the home plate umpire wasn't sure whether it was a check swing so he went down to the first base umpire gosh first base umpire said oh no no swing really bud black lost his mind got kicked out of the game and the next pitch was hit out for a three-run homer and the dodgers won so what was the right call oh he he swan he swan argument yeah see this is why the check swing is one of the weirdest things to me i don't know robo ohms can do about that be honest with you robo ohms can't call that no but they have to find a way well and apparently they're installing robo ohms into triple a by like june 25th of this year so five days or something or july 25th one of the two i think it's july it was a bad call and you know the rockies you know give the rockies a break for heaven's sakes let them win a game that they actually should have won remember that check swing that decided the giants and the dodgers in the playoffs will win before it's a huge deal it's all up to one guy paying attention for a half of a second and not really getting a good look at it no because it happens in a split second like that right it says bang and it's over and now did he swing no and then they checked you know they checked they showed the slow motion and he went hernanda's you know broke his wrist it wasn't even close really gonzon wants to know what your definition of a check swing is i don't really know nobody watching the game for you know 60 years it's really tough to determine to me it's usually a if the bat passes all the way over the plate or the wrist is broken if you break your wrist and you you know what i mean yeah follow through yeah and it looked like hernanda's bit both of those things but uh that's not how the umpire saw it speaking of getting kicked out of the game did you also see mike shilt get kicked out of sunday's game after mannie michado was told yes yes okay you saw that did you see the john boy video that followed it no oh that went through everything mike shilt said to the umpire that day well you didn't see that no all right but we're talking up online you should for your own good okay but for the rest of you stay tuned because that's a big topic of conversation on the round table okay so that's coming up shortly nice job all right now that i've done all of that wasted as much time as i can what do you want to talk about i don't know why i'm singing and what is that the anti-griffer so you're singing the anti-griffer so adam texted me this morning when i was about to leave the house and said chris just admitted that his worst job ever was being a singing telegram guy okay tell me all about it what did you sing yeah and how did you get this job yeah well it's also on the round table so this is another preview of what's coming up but uh i it's gonna sound like a cop out because i sound like a cop out before everybody's mad at me but i don't remember a whole lot about it i was honestly it was in college i was 19 years old it was summer and somebody said you know you're outgoing a friend of mine does a singing telegram thing and they're looking for somebody um i said i don't know i could do worse i guess i checked it out and i went over there and got the job and um i only had the job for about a month if that i mean it's just a burnout situation yeah uh you do three or four of them a day oh god you know you're running all over town you've got to change your clothes seven times oh no into different outfits what's the then i really don't remember any of the songs everybody adam wants me to sing a song i'm like you kidding me that's like 35 years ago i don't remember the songs i really don't it would be like you and three other guys pop with your heads out hello hello hello hello your wife is divorcing you you need to go to the lawyer lawyer lawyer lawyer lawyer all right what you're doing right there is better than anything i did i will tell you that but um yeah it was a crazy job um you know as i admitted on the round table one of my costumes uh made me strip all the way down to basically a body suit with a folder covering and that was pretty embarrassing but i had to do that many a time and uh yeah to perform in front of i don't know usually 20 30 people would be at an office or a restaurant or something for usually a birthday or that is or a graduation or a retirement and singing telegrams were a big deal for that of you know that time and space in the world and i did it and i said it was my worst job so it's not one i want to continue to you know relive but whatever it's on the resume somewhere buried deep you know what i give you credit for it the the only weird job i had was i guess i i in high school senior year of high school i drove around and i put little hangers on doors for all the houses that had wood shingle roof roofs and i was told if it says no loitering who cares just go put one up there anyway oh yeah no solicitation that's why yeah not no loitering i mean i'm hanging out in their front yard but no solicitation uh you know how many times i almost got into a fight with someone because i didn't pay attention to their no solicitation sign and i went back to my boss at the time and i said these people really don't like it when i go and knock on their door he said i'll just do it anyway just do it anyway easy for you to say exactly all right well hopefully i'll uh sing my way out of here right onto the round table which is commercial free pajre talk for the next
