Knockin‘ Doorz Down

Melissa Bright | Trauma Recovery, Child Of An Addict, Owning Feelings & Award Winning Podcast Host

Why did I want to talk with Melissa Bright on the Knockin' Doorz Down podcast? Melissa is a professional self-esteem coach and is the award-winning host of The Bright Side Of Life podcast. She struggled with self-worth, not loving herself fully, looking at the world with limiting beliefs, living by someone else's standards, being a perfectionist, being a people pleaser, self-sabotaging, seeking outside validation, lacking self-confidence, and not practicing a lot of self-care.

Much of this stemmed from her childhood, in which her parents divorced, her dad wasn't present and her mother struggled with sobriety.

After losing her Mom at the age of 25, she would spend the next ten years not processing the trauma, losing self-confidence along the way, and feeling alone in her struggles. This all came to a head in 2020 when the whole world was hurting, Melissa decided to turn her pain into her purpose and start healing.

Simultaneously while starting therapy, she started thinking about her true purpose in life. She looked out into the world and saw other people hurting as well, and she wanted to help.

Now she puts the joy back into people’s hearts through her podcast, The Bright Side of Life, where she talks to people that have successfully navigated their way back to joy and happiness despite their struggles, pain, and grief.

All those things she struggled with kept her from lots of things: goals, a great relationship with her boyfriend, a great relationship with herself, and living as her true self.

She has done the work to say, "I am now in a completely different place and I no longer struggle with those things. I know who I am, where I am going, what I want to accomplish, and what I have to offer." Now she helps others do the same.
