Knockin‘ Doorz Down

Wil Prescher | Generational Trauma, Foster Care, Hope & Author Of This Is Is Me Trying: Navigating Through A Lifetime of Trauma

Why did Knockin' Doorz Down host Jason LaChance want to talk with Wil? Wil Prescher's story and memoir "This Is Is Me Trying: Navigating Through A Lifetime of Trauma" are gut-wrenching but inspiring as at 29 he is a warrior on a journey of healing from generational trauma and sexual abuse. Wil went through hell with an absent father and drug-addicted mother. Wil endured, more trauma being placed in the foster care system from age seven until he was almost 13. Bounced around in a broken system and moved from home to home all over the state of Texas. His unresolved trauma eventually to alcohol to escape as he was numb inside and as he says "I was able to feel something when I drank to excess."

At the age of twelve, Wil went to a foster home in Walnut Springs, Texas, with loving people who would eventually become his adoptive family. As Wil grew older, he developed a yearning to help individuals who have been in similar situations. He understood how navigating the foster system could be very challenging and that many were not as fortunate as he had been.    Wil has spent the last four years studying mental health and substance abuse issues while working with at-risk youth in multiple organizations. During this time, he realized the effects of music therapy on a person's soul and emotional well-being; he is continuing his education to fulfill his dream of becoming a therapist. He hopes to share his experiences with others to show that something good can come out of an unfortunate situation out of his control.    When he is not working or studying, Wil enjoys spending time with his family, who have adopted him. He also enjoys hiking and the outdoors. You can always find him jamming to the music of "Pink" with his two cats, and he still resides in Houston, Texas.  Wil Prescher has pursued his dream of being an author. His first book titled "This Is Is Me Trying: Navigating Through A Lifetime of Trauma," is available on Amazon in both paperback and e-book versions featured on fine literary book sites.    This is Wil Prescher in his own words, on the Knockin’ Doorz Down podcast.
