This is your morning routine, listen to respect my name, Captain G Hood. That's right, that's right, we're bad, uh-uh. Watch the show on Twitch, follow ESPN 1000 Chicago, stream the show on the ESPN Chicago app, and on, in there, 100.3 HD2, and on ESPN 1000 Chicago, no, no, no, no, no. David Kaplan and Jonathan Hood, good morning everyone. Bring 'em out, bring 'em out, bring 'em out, bring 'em out, bring 'em out, bring 'em out, bring 'em out. Bring 'em out, bring 'em out, bring 'em out, bring 'em out, bring 'em out. Oh, God, welcome in to the Captain J. Good Morning Show. On ESPN 1000 and we're streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. What did you get, Captain Jonathan Hood with you? We've got Shane, we've got Jay Moore, we've got you. We're three hour ride here on this Monday morning with open phone lines for you. 3-1-2-3-2-E-S-P-N-3-2-3-7-7-6, our phone number. We'll talk bears recording, coming up at 735, but cap. As someone who is a lifelong South Sider, and someone who grew up 20 minutes from Old Kaminsky Park, now guaranteed rate field, and someone who has been a die-hard White Sox fan his entire life, I'm watching something, we're all watching something that we've never seen before, and that is ineptitude to the nth degree, the worst that we've ever seen. Now listen, if you are a Chicago sports fan, you've seen bad teams. You've seen teams that can't win, you've seen bad front offices, you've seen bad managers, you've seen bad coaches, but let me just make sure that everyone understands that we have never seen anything like this. Right here on the proud home of the Chicago White Sox, the White Sox have lost 20 games in a row, they've lost 20 games in a row, they lost to the Minnesota Twins 13-7. It's a nice round number to give this franchise, because no team has lost 20 in a row since the 88 Baltimore Orioles, who lost 21 times in succession. Cap, when we talk about the road to 24, that Shay's been putting out there, it could happen, but the point is, though, is that even if it doesn't, it's a blight and embarrassment on the city. You're a big market, and you're performing like that, that is an embarrassment. 100%. You're correct. You ask fans, "Hey, buy our jerseys. Hey, you got a new City Connect jersey. It's outside. It's cool." Got great food, as you like to say. Brooks and his team put together great activities. They're awesome with Christina O'Reilly and the charity side of things. Amazing. She's awesome. The baseball side and the level of commitment from ownership is pathetic in terms of trying to win. Pah, pathetic. To run that team out there, and then the report comes out over the weekend, which we already knew it, you and I, but Pedro makes a million dollars a year. He's on a three-year deal. You won't buy that out. We see the owner of the Detroit Pistons give Monte Williams 60 million to walk away. 60! You won't buy him out for what's left, a million four. That shows you level of commitment. He's not a good manager. The team is done. There are 60 games under 500. 60. Oh my God. It is so pathetic that people are watching this car crash. They have three in Oakland where they usually don't play well. Can they win when Oakland is not great? And then you get a day off and then you get the Cubs. You'll be hosting your rival to the north. And if you lose, you set the all-time record modern day baseball history for losses. It's beyond pathetic. If you are a Cup fan today and you care about stabbing your Sox fan friend or family member in the ribs, you are the most ardent Oakland A's fan this week. You want Oakland to sweep the White Sox because you want to be able to have the hammer as a Cup fan to just put the, that Sox are already done. But I mean just to be able to say, we're the ones that did it. And if you're a Cup fan, you have every right to do that today. And you have a friend of yours, Cup fans, that is our Sox fan or someone in your family. You have every right to hold your stomach and laugh and point and say, you guys are embarrassing. It is embarrassing for the city cap. And here's the thing. There's a difference between bad and fun bad. There's a difference between it because we've seen this before. Fun bad is, ah, they were so close to being able to win that ball game. They're right on the precipice. Ah, that error. Ah, that one pitch. Ah, that one base hit. They need it. Ah, they're right. Right there on the cusp, right? That's fun bad. But when you're the drizzling, you know what's on a daily basis, when you're not hustling, been intending, when the manager is sleepy, when the ball club is just having the same approach they had in April, that shows you where they are, Cap. It's not fun. Fun bad is like, ah, you know, we're going to get a turn in a couple of years. Watch them now. They're going to be plucky. Not this team. That's the worst. The bottom. This is the bottom, the absolute bottom. And I said to you before, how do you walk into a meeting of all the owners, all 30 are meeting in New York or wherever they meet? Oh, hey, Jerry, how you doing when he walks away, they all laugh. He's a good man. He's a good person. But in terms of commitment to winning, it does not exist. So because of this, because the socks are in this position right now, minus 247 in the run differential, by the way, minus 247 runs in the run differential. That's epic. Yeah. So because you're in this position, I will ride with many that are looking forward to seeing the socks get to 24 losses. You're going this far, Cap. And this whole thing with Pedro Grafalle, our guy here in security that we talk to every morning. Mark, right there. What are we going to do? I check. I'm telling Mark and all the rest of the White Sox fans. Let it happen because it's got it's hurting now, but let it hurt even more so. Put grandma out of her misery and her being the Chicago White Sox. Let it happen. This whole thing about Pedro Grafalle, I think is also interesting as well. If you'd known me, if you'd been listening to the show cap, we'm next to you every morning. I said at the time, Pedro Grafalle, when he was hired, you know, I said, Pedro Grafalle, who's he? He's not a difference maker. I already had a Hall of Famer that people want to run out of town in Tony LaRusa. He got sick, okay? You bring in Pedro Grafalle. He's not moving the needle, Cap, and you see he's not moving the needle now. Good manager, bad manager, the ball club, the organization is not in the right spot. Pedro can't win with this, the idea that we hear from time to time, if you're just bringing an AJ present, you really want a Sox hero to preside over this nonsense, this wreckage? If I was again was, I was again, would be awful too. He would. Here's the team's horrible, the organization's not in a position to win. So the next manager is going to be an A to B manager. Do you understand why it's going to take seven plus years to get this turn? They're gonna fire the fall, either this year or at the end of the season, the next person will be A to B. That'll be a young manager's gonna get ruined in this nonsense. He'll be fired too. And then when you think you're gonna get a turn now, you get someone that's been fired before a B to C manager, all right, come on in. That person will lose too, and that person will be fired. Buddy, I said, why would Terry Franco not take this job? And I said, wait a minute, he doesn't need the money. He's been sick. He's now healthier. And he doesn't need the money, but he wants to manage. That's what he does. He's gonna have his pick of any job out there. I'll take the one that's gonna have the worst record of all time. He's not 35. He's like, what? 65? Yes. He's not coming here. Are you crazy? He would be the one to tighten the screws when you're ready to win. Correct. All right. It's bringing, it's bringing Tito. Like Bochi went to Texas. Yes. And won the World Series. And that's who I prefer before they had La Russa 2.0. And by the way, with commitment, that would have been good for the White Sox because Bochi knows what the hell he's doing. He sat at home, got both of his hips taken care of, got replacements, right? Comes out there, you know, goes to the mound, you know, and he does, and by the way, wins the World Series. How about that? Because you had financial wherewithal because you cared. It's a big market. It's Dallas. Here, here in Rockford, it doesn't matter to the Chicago White Sox. Where in Chicago? Here in Rockford. Right. That's your point. It's truly pathetic. It really is. Let it happen, Cap. Just let it go. Let the 24 happen. Now here's the thing. I would agree with Steve Stone, as he said at the end of the broadcast yesterday. He says that he feels like the White Sox will win a game in Oakland. I think that's actually likely. If you can't be, I mean, you're awful, but you can't beat them. They're bad too now. They've been bad for a long time. They don't care. They're drawing flies out there and rats to watch their games. I think that Stone might be right that Oakland can find a way to trip over a pebble and lose the ballgame to the White Sox. Yeah. Oakland stinks. They're the second worst team in the American League. Yeah, they're 46 and 67. They're 19 and a half games better than the White Sox. But at home, they're almost 500. They're 27 and 29. They played well in the second half, too, but the second worst team in the American League is 19 and a half games better than the White Sox. The A's are closer to a wild card berth than the White Sox are to the A's. Damn. Let it happen, Shay. Just let it happen. Because it's got our hurt. Maybe for Jerry, and then here's the thing, we have to do a wellness check on Jerry. Jerry, have you been watching? I know that you watch a lot of YouTube. Are you watching that your team is being as a civic, a civic embarrassment, a national embarrassment to even for the casual Sox fan cap through their feed on social media? They have to know. Oh my God. The team I grew up watching, the team that I've been into all my life is a national embarrassment. There are spots on Sports Center for the White Sox. Oh, the White Sox lose again. Yeah. Jazz has jazz has jazz hands. It's unbelievable that we looked up at Sports Center the other day, and they're they're showing like highlights and post game country on Sports Center. That was when they had lost their 17th in a row. And Grafel sound they're putting the video of Grafel with that hat on looking like a dope. What's he going to say? It's been daily. They get to the sea block. They're done with the NFL. It sucks every day. It's unbelievable because it's because it's compelling. It's interesting because to the nation who's forgotten about the White Sox, by the way, including ESPN, who forgot about the White Sox, when they see someone this bad, they try to figure out like how did they get this way? How did they get this way? How did they get to a 20 game losing streak? Like I think Colorado's horrible. They're 41 72 Colorado Rockies. You realize they are there what 31 under the socks are 68 under 60. Let me be the big black mirror for every White Sox fan too that will come across and say, I don't really care. I don't care. You care. You care. The reason why that you care is because you have people in your social media feed or in your family or in your fandom that's asking you about your team and you have to answer it for it. The idea like, well, I don't care what you care because you care what the Cubs do. You care what the rest of the American League central does. You do care. You could say it. You could be in denial, but let me just be the mirror to tell you you care. It's about time for you to say something about it. I'm not going to the game. That doesn't hurt the White Sox. It doesn't. What hurts the White Sox is for you to be vocal and to be able to express how you feel. I do it every day. I know it's bad. Hey, I knew it was bad at the beginning. You know why? Because I was a Padres fan for this year. That's why I told you from the beginning, like, you see this roster cap? There's no way I can get behind it. Zip Padres for the year. You did. I remember. I'm like, are you wearing a Padres shirt? Yep. That guy come up to me in Wisconsin this weekend. Yeah. I don't even know the guy. He's like, Hey, cat. How you doing? He's like, uh, I listen to you in hood. He lives in Wisconsin. He listens to us on our app. He said, his hood really Padres fan. I said, yes, for this season, he is. He still loves his White Sox, but he's so mad at them that he adopted the Padres for this season. Oh, because it's the truth. It's a truth cap because it sucks. That's why we live in Chicago and you treat your ball club like this. There's minor league teams, right, the windy city Thunderbolts. I've got their schedule. I'll be checking out more of their games in the White Sox this year. I've got the old pocket schedule that I've I've marked out some some games here for me to check out and crushed wood because because what is the what's the point of this horrible. It's truly embarrassing. It's horrible. It is truly embarrassing. The old pocket schedule ready to go so far so I can enjoy some good baseball and then there's Oz. Ozaroo will hear from Oz again who just needs some couch time some therapy and a cocktail. He just needs that just something the Sox losing streak. It has become Chicago's most compelling story. Would you agree with that? Let's put down the poll as well. Che at ESPN 1000. Hey, we got Bears camp. Cap and I are going to be there Tuesday and Wednesday. There's the Sox. Cubs winning three out of four. I mean, the most compelling story in Chicago sports is what 3 1 2 3 3 2 3 7 7 6 is our phone number cap and Jhood on the mighty home of the Chicago White Sox. ESPN 1000. This is cap and Jhood they beat in the traffic commute so you don't have to. On ESPN Chicago they hurt, but you have to flush this one. Cap and Jhood weekday morning seven to ten here on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN Chicago app. He's hoping that you're going to have a great Monday. I know we're on weekday mornings at seven cap, but I think we're back up doing the night show week night at seven. I can't believe how dark it's and it was dry when I walked in, but when I left the northern suburbs. Yeah. Dude, it was raining so hard I couldn't see in front of my car. It's like, oh, yes, it was a downpour. I took the little puppy out, Maverick did his business and then I heard thunder as we were walking back in the house. I'm like, oh, whew, glad he was quick. Put him back in and got my coffee and left. And man, the skies opened up. Thanks, Tracy. Got everybody wet. That Tracy Butler. By the way, a shout out to everyone that came out to see Cap and I in two different spots at IKEA and Bowling Brook and in Schomburg. Yes. We even FaceTime with somebody. You call. You call. I missed the call. I called you back and you said, I got a guy here wants to say hi to you. You were in Bowling Brook. I was in Schomburg. They had a great time. So thank you to the people at IKEA. They had a really fun time and you know how it works. When you do an appearance and I do appearance and it's separate, they want to know, well, where's hoodie? Where's Cap? Yeah. Where's he? I have people. Is hoodie here? Nope. He's in Bowling Brook. And then I had a guy, I won't throw him under the bus for his company. Let's just say he drives an armored car. Uh-huh. He does. He said he was in his uniform. I'm like, oh, did you come from work? He said, I drove the armored car here. You did? You work it? He said, nope, I started early so I could get here to meet you and guess where I'm going now? I said, are you driving the armored car to Bowling Brook? Yes, I am. And he came down to see you. It was so cool. There's a lot of co-fans in Bowling Brook that want to just seek and talk to Cap. It's like, oh, I'll call Cap right now. And I guess it was after the Cubs and Cardinals game, clearly, it's about a time we were got there. Yeah, you're still jacked up about the Cubs in that game against the Cardinals. So it's great to be able to talk to our listeners and our fans. Thanks so much for joining us for IKEA. We've been talking about the White Sox. They've lost 20 games in a row, 20 games in a row. And as a White Sox fan that's fed up with not just Pedro Gefal, just Cap. I mean, again, he's in a position that he could not win. And despite the bedside manner, whatever the rumor and innuendo is about him, ultimately, it's his Anjeri Reinsdorf, and it's on the organization. You put the organization in this spot. And so you have to dig yourself out of it, no matter who the manager is. There are some that believe that Aussie can should be managing the ball club, Aussie 2.0. Oh boy, when Aussie was hired, when Aussie found out that Gefal was hired by the White Sox. Oh man. If they take out the, no, not just that, you take out the 20-game losing streak and the 14-game losing streak, they still have the worst record in baseball. Yeah. Wow. The math is so bad. I thought it was, they're 40 games under. No, they're 60 games under. You are working on the White Sox. No, it lost 34 straight games. You could buy them to losing streaks. That means, that means, that means, that means Pedro's 100 games on the 500. Yes. And he got the job. He's 100 games under. Oh boy. That's, that's tough. No, I got to go to, I got to go to this college tomorrow. I got to go. That's my country. No, I do. I got to, I got to bring my biggest, some few years ago, I was happy now and I'm, I'm bitter and queer. You're bitter watching this team play? No, just like a, because I know, I don't think I was a bad manager when the big kids were fooling me. That's, I got to, I got to see the character. So I'm drinking a lot. You are. I have problem with a lot. I asked you to, the only people that I love with me is my grandkids. Everybody I hate, but I don't know why. Don't tell me that person. Maybe that's why. That's what I got. I'm not playing around. A lot of people, I know, I thought like, I was bitter myself like my God, I'm just bad. Then I went to manage in Venezuela, come back and go, wow, man, I will, I will. I should be embarrassed myself more than anything. I do it. I was again, I need a psychiatrist because three years ago, they picked him over me. Well, listen, it wouldn't be this bad under Ozzy, but the point is though, is that again, it's about personnel. It's about personnel. And it's been mismanaged and you get what you deserve. That's why if you want to push to 24, go ahead to lose against the A's three times. So that's a hell of a trick because the A's are horrible, but the socks are even worse. The worst we've ever seen. I had an old timer tell me about the 62 Mets. Yeah, they lost. They had the worst season record of all time. Socks are on pace to beat that. Metropolitan's was an expansion team at that time, right? Right. Casey Stengel. Frank Howard on that team. And I didn't expansion draft this. The whole point is is that you get it, right? An expansion team, but this it's worse than that. And Fort Hood, Texas, listening on the ESPN, Chicago app. Here's Jim on cap and Jhood, Jim. Good morning. Good morning, guys. What's up, buddy? I'm just happy to watch. Hey, guys. Hey, what's up, cookie? Hey, I'm just excited to be watching meaningful white socks baseball game. One last time I watched the white socks game with any stakes, finally, I'm paying attention. Just knowing the white socks that we get to 23 and then win the 24 game and have to start all over again. It's unfortunate that in your state, you can't just open up an app and do some gambling, Jim, because that's easy money for the last 20 games. Hey, if you can't do a real thing down here, we're working, you're the man. What do you do? What do you do there? I'm just getting out of the army. I'm transitioning out. I'm going to be a HVAC tech here in a few months. So I'm excited. God bless you, sparkles. Thank you for your service. Hey, take it easy, boys. All right, Jim. Here's the 62 Mets, the 1962 New York Mets finished with a record of 4120 Eric and one tie. Okay? Damn. Here was their record, their lineup. That catcher, Chris Canazero, he got for the Cubs too. At first, Marvelous, Marv Thromberry. Remember him? I'm the light peer at second baseman, Charlie Neil shortstop, Elio Chacon, the third baseman is Felix Mantilla, Frank Thomas and left field, not the good one. Jim Hickman from the club in center. Jim Hickman, Joe Christopher in right. And their pitching staff was led by Roger Craig, Jay Hook and Bob Miller. Horrible, horrible, 4120 and one tie. And so there you have it, there you have it. And so there you go, cap again with his broken mic. See that, Shay? No, just jam it on there. Real good. Get a little firm with it and it has to be nice. Just jam it on. There you go. Just jam it right on. There you go, good job. Fresh sound bite for a Monday morning. Nice and fresh. Just jam it right on there, no Vaseline, just put the mic on the stand. I mean, it's truly, wow. Don't blame the equipment. That's your fault. That was on you. Why is that on me? Because you just, you cannot just host the show. You're holding the mic like a rock star and that's not how, that's not how this works. Hold on a second. I simply went like that and at Zabour, at Zabour, when we the first two in here, I set my stuff down. It just failed, man. I set my water bottle down and it fell right off. He's like, he's on American Idol. He's talking with his eyes closed, his lips are on the mic, he's got two hands on it. Really passionate. But leave it or not. I'm flying out here. No, seriously, it just fell off. No, so many people are down there. And I set, I went, set the water bottle up. Bam. I'm like, you okay? I'm like, you okay? Look at this. When I came in on Saturday with Tyler, as soon as I sat down, I just moved it a little bit and popped right off. I don't know what's going on with that mic. So that would be, it's excited easily. Waddle or yerk. I mean, who's the last one in there? I think that's, that's waddle. Yeah, yeah, that's on waddle. By the way, we've got to get an arc down here. It's raining that hard. Look at this poor bastard walking down the street. With that little umbrella that he got as a giveaway and he soaked. How do you know he got as a giveaway? You don't know anything about that, man. Because nobody buys that umbrella. That umbrella sucked. Just a normal black umbrella. No, it was tiny. It was flimsy. What? What? Why is he going off on this man's umbrella? It looked free. That's what the umbrella looked like. It looked free. Yeah, exactly. He didn't buy it. He got it at a socks game. Yeah. Oh my God. Oh wow. The brother, the umbrella was black, so there was that. Two African American umbrellas. Oh my God, I truly want the answer to this. Do people find bears trading camp and the Hall of Fame stuff that went on this weekend? Cubs taken three of four and a PCA doesn't call off Nico. The Cubs sweeped that series because they didn't implode in the night. They would sweep it and take three of four from those dirty cardinals or the white socks having lost 20 in a row, four short of setting the all-time record in the modern day. Which is the most compelling? I would say, Cap, that just watching that dumpster fire on the side of the road, people are attracted to it, some want to be able to film it and put it on their social media. So this particular kind of ineptitude, people would want to be able to say, oh my God, did you see this? It hit record. Would you want to hit record on a three out of four against the cardinals? We get up early. 4am. Yep. I am going to be up tonight when that game gets going to watch the age and the white socks. Maybe I'm crazy, but I think it's far and away the white socks. I haven't been this locked in on Sock Space Ball all season. I think it's fascinating. I'm going to the game on Friday. If they continue to lose out, they get swept by Oakland. I'll be there Friday. This is unbelievable. And it's something, forget we haven't seen it before, nobody has ever seen this. The last time a team was 60 games under this early was 1889, 1899, whatever, Cleveland Spiders, no one alive has ever seen this before. Say it with me, say it proud for all the haters, step side, stand up. Nothing to stand up for. No. Nothing. No. Matter of fact, the socks have been sitting down for 20 games in a row. It hurts, but you've got to flush this one. If I could give John any advice to stop talking about people in the radio business, you cannot win. They have a mic every day. Stop. God, I saw it and I'm like, okay, somebody's got to do an intervention. Brooks, you got it. You got to have an intervention. I mean, what are we doing here? Actually, in this case, I don't blame him. He's one of the things to talk about that he had, they've lost 20 in a row. What are you going to say? He's, he's, it's about job security one for him and two, he's running out of notes. That'll be all, even though he's got a bashing of knowledge right next to him and Steve Stone, right? He's asked Stone all the questions he has. He's got nothing else. He's got an empty yellow pad cap. He's done. So that's why he turned to that. We'll get it. You'll hear that sound a little bit later on our show, but coming up, we'll talk about the bears with Courtney Cronin on the cap and jayhood morning show, check make one six million suppression on target. That's why I see him in my shot shot or no shot with cap and jayhood or yes, we get one thousand and yes, we end Chicago at that's why I see him in my shot. Good morning and welcome in to the cap and jay good morning show on ESPN 1000 and streaming on the ESPN, Chicago at about that cap. Well, David Kaplan shot at the hood with you now time for shot or no shot and then we turn it over now to Shane or like Shane, good morning boys on a Monday. How are we feeling? We're awesome, man. Let's go every Monday. Oh, shake. Come on. Drew. He's a state of mind kid. It's clearing up ready. It's lightened up. The rain stopped. Come on. The glass is half full kid. Don't sweat small things that you can't control. Is there a mirror for a view? Why you say that or? Here's Shane Norley on the one guy that doesn't sweat small things. You know that yeah, that's a fact. We we go through a health crisis. You learn real quick. The small stuff. Don't freakin matter and that's one to grow on, but did we or did we not do five consecutive days of Kaplan missing his luggage? Well, it was a radio bit, you goof. It wasn't on the air when you were cursing out that poor customer service agent. Well, I had my wife's anniversary present in there, but it wasn't like the end of the world for me. Come on. You're better than that. Let's go get to work. It's your job. Let's go. Damn. Oh. All right. Well. Jennifer Flus has talked about Caleb's play time in the preseason, being related to the health of the offensive line, which is currently a mass unit, three of five starters out at practice yesterday, including Darnell Wright, who did not practice, Kevin Jenkins, who left practice with an injury, Nate Davis had a ramp up day practice, not in full. He was on the exercise bike, working some stuff out for a little while. If the bears don't have a healthy offensive line, shot or no shot, Caleb Williams should not play against Buffalo. That's a shot. I cannot put him out there. If James Carville is the guy trying to protect his backside, I mean, what does she say? It's not James. What is his name? Jerome. Jerome Carvin. Jerome Carvin. Like there are guys I have never heard of that were in the lineup yesterday. If they can't protect the franchise quarterback, then you don't play him in a preseason game. I hope they can get these guys back out there because he needs to work, Caleb. You mean the Cajun guy that's that worked in the Clinton administration? He's on the offensive line. That's Carville. Oh, this is Carvin, C-A-R-V-I-N. Jerome Carvin. I don't know who the guy is. I've never heard of the guy, but he was starting on the offensive line of practice yesterday. If that's the case, three guys are down, then I'm not putting Caleb behind them. Let's make that determination as the week goes on. We're there tomorrow and Wednesday. You and I. You know, Shay, I'll answer the question in this way. So say, for instance, the offensive line is not intact for the entire time of the preseason. Does that mean that Caleb never gets a snap in preseason? I mean, ultimately, you're going to go through trials and tribulations in which he will not have a fully healthy offensive line. If you are missing two parts or three parts of the offensive line, that means that Caleb doesn't get any snaps. He's got to be able to perform in some way when there is issues with the team, a wide receiver could be down, a tight end could be down. And this is where the rubber meets the road when it comes to decisions like this. At some point, Caleb Williams has to play. We look forward to seeing him playing against Buffalo. Again, if it's not now, then when? He's always going to go through some issues where he doesn't have his team fully intact. So when will that be time? We'll be Tennessee. Is that the right time? So you would put him out against Buffalo. If you're missing, I get your point at some point, he's going to have to deal with adversity. But adversity is not the preseason in week two of the preseason. If I have three starters that are missing, let's see. We'll hear Iberflu speak tomorrow. Let's see what he says. That's the way I would answer it. But ask because you know how this works, you're trying to rev up and get healthy for Tennessee for the first game of the season. These games don't mean anything as much as you just can reps and getting football shape. Correct. And football rhythm. That's correct. So I think that's the question I would have. It's a no shot that he should play against Buffalo if he's missing players. But again, with this happens at home in a third game or against Kansas City in the fourth game. So, and here's the thing. We've been there before, Shay, when you have a rookie or you have a guy that's supposed to be a quarterback and go, he doesn't play. We don't want to get him hurt. And then he looks flat as a pancake in that first game of the season. You don't want that. So I think we had to look at this. Yeah, I just think it depends on how much you think you can work on the things he needs to work on in practice and in the joint practices with other teams. And if you feel like he needs a certain number of snaps in actual game action in the preseason, like a lot of people in our twitch and YouTube chat saying this feels like playing scared. I think resting him against Buffalo is more playing smart because the game doesn't mean anything and you don't have the bad bodies to protect him. The last thing you need in a meaningless preseason game is somebody flying off the edge trying to get a job on Buffalo's defense and knocking Caleb Williams out, then you're in trouble. See, the acement thought was for him to be able to get the calls, hear how the calls works, the cadence works, and then from the hand the ball off, just so he can feel comfortable in the offense. I think that some of us that watch these games believe that the offense is supposed to light it on fire, even in preseason. That's not necessarily what it's about. It's about just trying to understand the rhythm. Keep in mind, Caleb Williams is the typical college football quarterback that we've seen, in which he wasn't calling, plays in the huddle, looked over at the placards or just kind of just went, you know, as the ebb and flow of the offense went. So I think that that part of is important for him to have a voice in the offense. You don't want to have that in your first game and 40 blue time out, well, that's wrong. You didn't give the right cadence. They couldn't hear you. It's overfield. You got to be louder. Like, you want to get those kinks out if you can in the preseason, I agree. More macro with the Bears offensive line health and three of the five starters already being this banged up, and it's not even preseason game two yet. Short of Caleb Williams himself getting hurt. The Bears offensive line being this injured already is basically the worst case scenario at Bears Camp. I don't know, Sean. What's the case scenario? Yeah, I mean, you don't want to have health, right? Yeah. I know. I mean, a catastrophic injury becomes your worst case scenario, but yeah, all these other different things. Yes, it's not a good situation, especially when you're trying to build something. It's not like Tom Brady's back there. I've seen this already. I will be good. No. Yeah, it's not good. So no, it's not good now. My hope is it gets better at the end of the preseason and C shape. This is why I balk at the conversation about numbers and what Caleb Williams in the offense can do because again, you have to understand what football is. No matter how dynamic you believe that Caleb Williams in this offense can be, there's going to be issues like we're talking about right now. The offensive line is it, first of all, is it productive? Secondly, is it healthy? Then from there, it's a rookie working with another rookie in a doomsday. He's got Allen. He has got DJ Moore as a couple of veterans that he could work with, but it's about Williams understanding the offense getting the ball down the field. The whole thing with the offensive coordinate. All of it has to work and it doesn't work sonically. It takes time and hopefully it'll be quicker than normal. It worked for Houston. I don't know if it works for the Bears. We have to find out, have no idea. But keep in mind, there's always going to be issues kept like what we're talking about now that Caleb Williams has to overcome whether it's Waldron, whether it's Ebert Flus, whether it's the offensive line, whatever, right? It just want those to be in season, not preseason. Shane. All right, Jalen Johnson over the weekend reacted to not being named to the NFL's player voted top 100. They know, I don't know how you make Pro Bowl, all Pro and they're not a top one that got us. I mean, I could have been a hundred and one, I guess, but Aaron Rodgers didn't even play in the season. He was voted. So, I mean, everybody made mistakes. It ain't just immediate. I do it. The players, clearly, if they voted for this, they made some mistakes, but it is what it is. I mean, any day I know, I know the truth, and it's okay. I got some more for them. The stuff like that, though, like, drive you, maybe not drive you, but does it just kind of feed you? 100% is disrespectful. It is disrespectful. Um, yeah, no, it's disrespectful because I know I go out there and in line up, and I know, I know receivers go out there and can't say that I'm not one of the best people to, like, press play. They play it again. So, I mean, just, whatever it is, it happened. I mean, it doesn't, doing it, that wouldn't have just, like, moved me to where I'd feel like I'm complacent or anything, but just to see it, I mean, ain't no way. I mean, honey, guys better. Ain't no way. And especially guys who didn't play, who were hurt, played high. Ain't no way. I'm sorry. Excuse my legs. Ain't no way. Ain't no way. I was a bit confused that Jaylen was left off, especially when you look at some of the other corners that made the bottom end of this list, guys like Greek Wolin in Seattle, who were terrible last year, got onto the top 100, but Jaylen Johnson doesn't. I wonder if the impact is because he played on a bad team. So my question, shot or no shot. If Jaylen Johnson had played for a different team, he would have made the list. Well, I like a winning team, right, Shay? Yeah. If he played for the Seahawks, let's say that's a shot or winning team, because he can't just be any of the bears or the drags, one of the drags of the league. Have he played for Miami? He probably makes it. He plays for the Chiefs. He makes it. He plays for the Rams. He makes it, but he does not make it because the bears have been so bad. But that guy's legit. Every right to be pissed. Let's see how this works though. You would think the NFL can get through that clutter. Cap, you would think, okay, yes, they lost 13, 14 games in a row, whatever it was for the bears that you can still look at the talent and say, well, I know they're bad, but that guy's good. The NFL players, you couldn't even get through that clutter. Bears are bad. Bears suck. So yeah, he's part of that. Well, no, he actually is a really good player, right? But see, that's you can blame the bears for that. Don't blame Jalen. But he bears. But if he has a really, really good season and the team goes to the playoffs, he'll be a lot to be high in that top 100, upper 50. You know, it's interesting cap. Every player has some kind of motivation, right? Everyone has motivation. Family, friends, disrespect, they all have something. Some players feel disrespected because they're mad and raiding. Oh, there's no way my mad ratings got to be this. You know what? It's harder. So my mad and raiding will be better. Right. Same thing here with this list. This arbitrary list as during your peers and think you're a top 100 player, if that motivates dealing Johnson would be the best corner league, go do it. Have at it. Whatever he's a hell of a football player. Everyone has their own different motivation. His motivation is that he was not named top 100. Okay. Have at it. Yeah. Shane. Speaking of the top 100 list, number one, the best player in the NFL by the players vote was Tyree Kill. Now Tyree Kill is awesome. I've long said on this show and elsewhere that he is a surefire Hall of Famer, an all-time great wide receiver. I've called him the best receiver in the league. I do kind of believe that. I think Justin Jefferson's given him a run, but it's 1A and 1B. He's got over 10,000 yards for his career before age 30, 76 touchdowns, three first team all pros. He's a stud. He's led the league in receiving and receiving touchdowns last year, but shot or no shot. Tyree Kill is the best player in the NFL. That's a no shot for me. Yeah. That's a no shot for me either. Now if Aaron Donald was still in the league, I think he gets the nod, but he retired. But yeah, Tyreeks is an amazing football player. Would I have a number one? No shot. No, it starts with Patrick Holmes for me since we're so quarterback centric in the NFL. I remember a time cap as NFL fans that we were into like defensive players and wide receivers and corners. And we, I think, tell me if I'm wrong. Maybe your conversations are different growing up. Didn't we talk about the stars, no matter the position in the NFL? We did. Everything's quarterback centric. The TV's over our shoulder is about the quarterback. The only way about the coach, the only way about the front office is your quarterback good enough because that's the central focus. So because of that, Patrick the Holmes, even to Shay, the greatest quarterback that he's ever seen play the position. Now think about that. So because it's about the quarterback, why wouldn't it be Patrick, Patrick Mahomes? Because everyone is chasing that ghost. That's what they're doing now. All the other quarterbacks want to get to that acclaim. They want to be able to have a coach like Andy Reed and have weapons that Patrick Mahomes has utilized. So why is it not Patrick Mahomes? I don't know why. But again, this is a jury of his peers. This is not a popularity contest. This isn't a fan contest. I'm curious how the top 10 shook out. McCaffrey has to be in there. Yep. I know Tyree Kill is in there, but who else is in there? I got to pull up the entire Max Crosby Travis Kelsey, which I think is a joke that does feel like a private popularity contest deal. Travis Kelsey? So 10 to 1 is Max Crosby 10, Travis Kelsey 9, TJ Watt, Trent Williams, Chris Jones, Miles Garrett, Patrick Mahomes at 4, McCaffrey 3, Lamar Jackson 2. Come on. And Tyree Kill 1. Nah, I'm good. Yeah, I would have my homes at 1. Chris Jones would be in the top. What number was he? 6. Yeah, he'd be higher than that for me. Yeah, Trent Williams would be higher than that for me. Sounds like a top 10 list of players you want to kick it with. That's what it sounds like to me. Right. Oh, hang on. Lamar. That's what it sounds like to me. Lamar hit him a home. It's just ridiculous. It's like how many times do we have to do this? Correct. I get that he won MVP. Spags made him look like a joke in the playoff game. AFC title game, Lamar can't move the ball. It's not all his fault. He had receivers dropping passes. But if this guy can't figure out how to evade a blitz, then he's not the second best player in the NFL. Now here, Shay, you and I and Cap and the audience knows that. They know that. But for the players, it's almost like they're pushing Lamar Jackson and willing Lamar Jackson to a championship. They respect that guy so much because he puts his body on the line, all that. But I think that a lot of players think, man, to solidify Lamar Jackson championship will never happen. I don't know. He's got all the individual achievements. But what about the ring? Right. I think that's how players look. They respect him that much. That's what all the things you said, Shay, are all true, not even just opinion. It's true because it happened. But I think the players like, man, if Lamar can get one, even though he may not be his teammate still that he's got respect in the league. Yeah. Chris Jones, for me as high as I said, Trent Williams is higher for me. Max Crosby is higher for me. Patrick Holmes is one. No doubt. Travis Kelsey in the top 10, he's not even the best tight end in football anymore. It's just enough. He's pretty freaking good. I'm not saying he's not. But last year was a career worst since his rookie season, saved a lot of energy for the playoffs. He was I don't think he was going 100% in the regular season because I don't think he can at his age and still be ready to go in the postseason in top 10. That's popularity. It's this guy's Dayton Taylor Swift and he's walking Morgan Wallen out at Arrowhead. Let's vote him into the top 10. Yeah. His legs have been tailored. Coming up is around the NFL. Don't forget Jesse Rogers with Cubs and Sox and everything else MLB at 835. I'm Jeff and Jay Hood on ESPN 1000 also on our YouTube channel. Welcome back to Captain Jay Hood on Chicago's on for sports ESPN Chicago. It is time to go around the NFL right here on ESPN 1000 Greenie at 10 o'clock below by Carmine Yerko at 12. Whatland Sylvia 230 blacknip dollar six thirty to eight into White Sox baseball as it take on the A's right here in the home of the White Sox ESPN 1000 around the NFL with Shane Norlin. All right. Little twist on around the NFL which lately has become the bash the morning show segment on sportsman like this morning Evan Cohen said something I found egregious about the ongoing scandal and the allegations levied by the NCAA at the University of Michigan basically over the weekend the NCAA said you're going to be held responsible for this they've they're hitting the university show more the head coach with multiple level one violations in relation to sign ceiling and in relation to recruiting violations Jim Harbaugh's expected to be hit with a level one violation as well Evan Cohen weighed in on this this morning. I wonder also if they deem show more to be an easier target because he's new because he's not someone that everyone knows that hey let's go after him to show our power which is ridiculous because again if Harbaugh is responsible for stallions why is he not responsible for more and if he is you already suspended him six games and if you want to prevent Harbaugh from every coming back to college football go ahead but that should not fall into your own more whether he made mistakes or not he was not the head coach at the time it's not fair what they're going to do to him but he multiple problems with this one the NCAA didn't suspend Jim Harbaugh for six games the NCAA suspended Jim Harbaugh for zero games Michigan suspended him for three games and the big 10 suspended him for three games in two separate suspensions last season NCAA never got involved that's problem one problem two not fair sure oh more deleted 53 text messages with Connor stallions he was getting the information he was covering up the scandal he took part in it and was probably the biggest beneficiary as the play caller of having opposing team signals how on earth is it not fair to punish him yeah I'm with you Shay if he deleted 53 text messages they were able to recover them so then he said all right here you go and they show come conversations about the science feeling Sharon Moore's is guilty as Jim Harbaugh come on Evan you're better than that see this is the problem the lying and the cover up we don't know Connor stallions we don't know him we don't know him we don't know him and then you have the evidence of you actually you did know who Connor stallions was you know what Connor stallions did for the university so here's the deeper question I want to ask you Shay regarding this first of all in the light of NIL clearly the NCAA has no teeth anymore remember back in the day when they would snatch banners and snatch I mean what teeth do they have anymore you would think that in this scenario with the with Michigan the science dealing that the NCAA would have something to say about it the big 10 had more to say about it the university had more to say about it than the NCAA is that even a thing anymore real question is that a thing anymore is the NCAA step in and do anything anymore not like they used to every time somebody threatens them with little get all well back off the only people they hold accountable the coaches this is why these coaches are leaving and and fleeing these jobs is because there's no accountability there's no czar there's nobody in front that's my question so in this scenario okay if tomorrow tomorrow more clearly is guilty in my eyes Shay but then where's the suspension come from this is their problem hoodie because it's one thing when they can drop a nuke on SMU and nobody's really gonna riot it's one thing when they can hit Penn State with a sledgehammer when you go after Michigan you're gonna be in for trouble especially now when the CFP is the governing body over the post season and the NCA can institute a twelve two year post season ban which I've heard is the likely penalty but Michigan could just turn around and say we don't want to be a part of you anymore like the big 10 in the SEC make all the money the NCA answers to those two conferences not the other way around so if the big 10 in the SEC say we are our own thing now we don't want to be a part of you we're not even going to listen to what you have to say what how can the NCA fight that well Sharon Moore should be suspended for the year if he fully knew what was going on with Connor stallions cap coach Moore should be gone for a year right if he was helping to orchestrate if he just knew that's different for me but if he was part of the sign stealing gone second question since the incident of a year since the incident of a has no teeth anymore should the banner be snatched I don't care about snatching the banner I asked you I asked you for an answer that no matter what you care about I asked you because in light of the story that we have today do you believe that the banner should be snatched taken away based or asterisk based on what I know today no now if you present me the evidence is would say here you go and they've got sign stealing a plenty and it helped them win games because there's no for me it's not a coincidence that Jim Harbaugh's record was okay and then all of a sudden the allegations of Connor stains getting involved his record took off like oh wow they're amazing yeah so if you prove to me if you could document here it is we've got it yeah then I would snatch the banner Cala Perry gained some kids some money what do you have two banners taken down right no matter what this thing we saw on the playing surface the record is the record and the record is hey you won the national championship however and as we are written in the books so she again when it comes to Michigan and this is all true is does Michigan vacate that championship I'm actually for the book this is gonna surprise you I'm gonna say no and I know if I were the NCAA I wouldn't snatch the banner and I don't think that they should and the reason why they shouldn't is because they knew about the science dealing scandal before the national championship got played you had an opportunity if you wanted to be serious about this to ban them from the post season last year they said that they agreed that I would not gonna pursue this till after the season and he had every right to go to court there was no way it was gonna be adjudicated by that point in time I understand I'm saying if they wanted to do it they should have maximized their power and figured out a way to do it last year but because they didn't and they allowed the games to be played he had the legal process to follow they said always have found a way they could not they could not all the lawyers that have talked about it said he'll drag this out it'll be way past and it'll be gone to the NFL there's no way they could have without him getting due process they could not they had all the show cost stuff they were ready to go to court in December and he was going he had legal representation they were gonna drag it out they were not gonna have that done so now okay guess what I'm not stripping it I'm stripping we knew about it we played the game it is what it is and frankly we all know Louisville beat Michigan in the national title whatever year that was 2013 we all know we all watch the game I don't care if they took the banner down Louisville won the national championship you take the banner down and erase everybody's memories no two year post season ban I hate that school that's my pound of flesh because the damage is recruiting makes it very difficult going forward to build a program when you can't go to the playoff that's my pound of flesh I don't care what they do with the banner keep it up celebrate have fun enjoy your memories I don't have to legitimize it the court of public opinion can hang an asterisk next to it but I'm not taking the banner away because I think that these are issues that are on the table they're coming into this season for Michigan Sharon Sharon Moore one the other one is what is the record now for Michigan because if it was all through achieving scandal again you ain't cheating you ain't trying we've heard that for a long time but if it's egregious we could see it out front and couldn't care less than anyone else they okay well again the record is shameful when they you have a championship taken away from you change great did you see they also confirmed Connor stallions was indeed in the Bobby Valentine disguise on the central Michigan side line at Michigan State yeah getting signals from the Spartan side line denied denied denied until it's like oh yeah we did actually know that guy and by the way it was as obvious to cap and I did anyone else that Jim Harbaugh was gonna leave Michigan because of this issue he didn't want to be anywhere around it if there was no scandal it wouldn't surprise me if Jim would still be in the job because he loves Michigan that much but because when you get the long arm of the law coming cap just like for Pete Carroll or anybody else I'm out coach can we talk to you I'm out NFL you handle it right coach more you've done a great job here you take this grenade take it right I'm out I got I got I got that to do with it yeah I would not allow them to have a banner hanging up national champion if those allegations and everything they they make public is true gone could be interesting to if the NFL makes him answer for the whatever the college football suspension ends up being they did that with trestle after Ohio State they would not they made him serve a suspension in Indianapolis yeah seven games cleave was in near Cleveland I think it was indie I can double check but I know that they made trestle serve the suspension and they don't like to piss off their free farm system in the NCAA so it'll be interesting if the suspension comes down collegiately for our boss the NFL says yeah you got to serve that that'll make the Chargers real happy yeah you're right in the Indianapolis Colts suspended him for the first six games as it can replay he's was a replay game consultant for them yeah last time I saw him he was the head of Youngstown State president yeah I I've spent time running my college coach with his brother so I know him great dude great dude I say you haven't lived until you take that flight to Pittsburgh and get a drive in the Youngstown State oh god the worst the worst let me tell you something yes it it Youngstown Ohio it's awful makes Detroit look like Honolulu hmm hmm hmm yeah I told you that story like five years ago games over so the UIC loses to Youngstown State sorry we gotta get uber get back to the hotel try to uber app uber doesn't work try lift app lift doesn't work turn to one of the people on the scores table hey do you have a car service here like a uber or lift uber what's that but it's a car service sir it's it's you get you to and from that sounds like a good second job I like that okay go to the little booth there that has a phone booth and it's got a phone book there 24 hour cab service 24 hour cab service close at 10 o'clock damn correct oh god yeah it's 10 30 Eastern what do we do thank god the assistant uh athletic director took us back 30 minutes out of his way through canfield Ohio and got us back to where we need to be good man brutal Youngstown Ohio it sucks around the NFL right here as we talk to Jesse Rogers that's coming up next on the cap and jhood morning show
