Listen back to Paul Cooney, Mark Guidi and Peter Grant as they talk all things Scottish Football.

This is the Gore ideal football show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcasts. Call, oh wait, oh wait, it's 17, 17, 700. Let's go, go, go. Well, the premiership table has a familiar look Celtic on top after day once and they're in just one goal behind and goal difference. The other three games, as you know, ended in draws, including, of course, had the season kicked off one. Saturday, nil, nil at time castle, rangers now, on the way to Poland for the European, the Champions League qualifier. So more a night against Dynamoquier. Tonight, one more game for the weekends and Johnson against Aberdeen. Peter Grant is here. He was at the match yesterday, Celtic, four nil against Copanoic. The flag was unfurled. Mark Whitty is here as well. And Mark, breaking news, is hotting up for Matt O'Reilly. What's the latest? Well, this is Brighton and with Alwyn have jumped to the head of the queue. Paul for Matt O'Reilly. They are serious. They are talking numbers with Celtic and they want Matt O'Reilly. It looks as though Paul that Matt O'Reilly will go. That's far too much interest in them. I think they'll get a minimum 20 mil. You know, Celtic won upwards of 25. It might reach that with add-ons. But after his performance against yesterday, there's a number of clubs sniffing about them. So I think they're all going to be a bit nervous that they might miss out. But Brighton, Hovall, being at the moment, front of the queue for Matt O'Reilly, 20 million plus. Real Hitati was man of the match yesterday. Peter, you were there, you were on. Matt O'Reilly, he's been amazing pre-season and he's continued into the season itself. But do you expect in the next few weeks he's going to go? I would talk, no. But as you say, Paul, once the money comes in that you can't knock back, it's difficult. The one thing I can say is that Matt's handled it ever so well. He's not one of these players that said, "I'm stop training, I'm not going here, "I'm not going, I'm not flying abroad." And we spoke about either doing that with Norwich, which I don't agree with. I think whatever you're trying to do, there's a way to come in. And he's been brilliant throughout pre-season, these performances yesterday again. It was excellent. He's a total quality kid. I've known him for a long time, as I say. So he's an intelligent boy as well. He's not stupid. He'll try and make the right selection as well for his football career. But the big thing that disappoints me are talking, Brighton and Celtic. Night and day. I don't care to brighten love for another 100 years, 200 years, they'll never be Celtic football club. And that tells us when we keep coming on here, asking about people signing for Celtic, the value you can get and going by this one and going by. It just shows you how difficult it is. You know, you should not believe in Celtic to go to Brighton. But unfortunately, that's what we're saying. That's what we're saying. It's a finances individual gets, and it's a finances that they can get to actually buy a player like Marta Riley and the league they play on obviously. But, as I say, history will tell you that there's no comparison between the two clubs. So that's a fact. - So I think that's what you're thinking. '08, '08, '17, '17, '00 Mark Weddiepokony and Peter Grant. 'Over the weekend, Mark for Rangers, '0-0 at time castle, first half, hearts on top. Rangers may be better in the second half, but just one point already the playing catch up with Celtic. - Yeah, it didn't look like a team that's going on at title. Paul, I'll have to say, I was impressed with corner Baron in the middle of part. I think he did have a good game. He was hungry, looked for the ball. Wasn't a perfect performance from him, but certainly a lot there to be pleased about. But you look at the, some of the other Rangers players, it's not a title winning team, Paul. When you compare the two performances, if you want to look at that from Rangers, on Saturday afternoon and Saturday afternoon, at the moment it's night and day. And, but, give credit to your hats. Hats and really good performance, Paul and Shanklin again playing very well, but Rangers a long way off it, they really are. - Flick, come on, set afterwards, we will get better. - Sure, we, we're going to become better. Robin was also, Robin proper was also with the squad today, but if you don't train with a team, you cannot play a game. So, of course, and that's also an experience to put in the squad. So, no, I'm sure that the next couple of weeks we're going to improve. And we need to also, in that way, it's positive that they react in the right way in the second half, doing the things we need to do. And then you see that we play a much better football again. - Peter, it was always going to be a tough game for Rangers. I know you watched it, what did you feel? - I thought it was a point game, but Rangers, to be perfectly honest with you. I said to you, last week Paul, I thought hats would beat them. And because probably the seniors at Rangers have not had done and the players that they were bringing and weren't going to be available. And that's no disrespect. I thought it'd been a really tough game for them. And it proved that especially first half, you know. And then Rangers with a couple of opportunities to score. The keepers both keepers had great saves, you know, important times. So, let's not think Rangers will come away but think it's a point game. It's never easy to go to your time, Kel. So, you know that, we spoke about that last week. It's a proper match. It's not, but you've got to roll your sleeves up. And I'll look at that Rangers team and Matt's touched on a lot of it. And I don't think, I'm looking around about it. I'm thinking, who's going to be the one that's going to be in that dressing room? It's before the game, I have time and say to the players, "Come on, you need this, you need to do that. "It's not about how nice we are or whatever. "When you get closer, when you get a tackle, "when you get shorts on, whatever." I don't see that within the group. Maybe that's the thing. I don't know if it's without the game. Maybe that's the way it is. But I can imagine Celtic have stolen that because if the boys just come through the ranks there so that they understand that expectation and the ones that's been there for a little while now understand that expectation. I'll look at Rangers and I think maybe that's something that they'll be looking from, the coach and stuff. And that's not always easy. Mark touched on your own corner bar. Hasn't used item, helps. But he will need the experience along with him. He will get overrun. But if you look at the Celtic midfield compared to the Rangers midfield, where people say predominantly most games get won, that isn't even there, is Mark. Probably described the two teams at this moment. - Of course, the Celtic midfield is so strong. But will that be the midfield? Mark, James Tavern is there though. He's still there. The captain looks as though he will stay now. You would imagine he needs to reach the boys. He does. - He might still go. - Yeah, I don't know, maybe, if I thought, keep James Tavern here for the champions. He qualifies and see if they can get through and then come to Rangers. But I think it would benefit Rangers and the player. If you're going on. And I don't like criticizing James Tavern here because I think he's been a fantastic serving. And he's got a lot to offer. But I think the team's right for him to move on. And you look at that Rangers team. They are lacking leaders. They are lacking when it's bottom-like. - If they go through against the takeaway, we now know they'll play FC-20 or Red Bull Salzburg. So let's hope Rangers did the 4 million in that, Peter. If they get through to the playoff. - Listen, that's the dream you all want. Make sure that they go through. It's important for Scottish football. You know, we really want not to keep that place where you can qualify for the champions. Look right away, it's so, so important. You want to make a great performance. And especially after sometimes four or five together doesn't work, you'd no matter what. And we're talking, Mark saying maybe tavernier going, so does that mean you're going to make sterling? You're right back then, all of a sudden. It becomes completely different, but he trained today. And hopefully that's supposed to for Rangers in the respect of it, because he can play numerous positions. And I think they will need his legs and the energy to play in these European games. I think they're going to get through because it's, like they tell you, they draw as they've got. It's very, very difficult. - It's going to be so tough, isn't it? But they're already, they float. They trained here this morning and they float. There was a big game today, as some of you will know. And Janice Hadgy, we've not seen him for a long time in a Rangers jersey. He played today, he was involved, and I think he set up the first goal. It was a bounce game with Middlesbrough. But nothing's a bounce game at this time, Mark. Is it? If you're on the B team, you're trying to get into the top team. Janice Hadgy, it's just one that didn't quite work out. - No, I kind of forgot all about him. Paul, you're one of the ones, I think, and you contracted about a year ago, 15 months ago. So I think that's one again, that we try to get off the wage bill. And he's one of the ones that he, you know, hopefully, for Rangers, point of view, you would get a transfer fee from, but I don't think he's getting any future at Rangers. - Peter, you were there yesterday, Celtic 4, come on up now, resounding victory. This is what the manager thought about the game. - It was a very good performance. I think you'd come into the first game of the same thing I said before, the game, that it's just about getting it going. And I thought a lot of our combination, play in the midfield to attack and third was really good. Different type of game for us than what we've had. - See more from the centre bag, especially on skills, when he does it, he doesn't trust yourself enough. And sometimes you're going to give it away. But I think you have to go for it. And I know you sometimes get criticism for giving away, but you have to take that gamble at the time. The big moment comes from the Celtic supporters, a few play back and square for no reason when that passes on to go and break that line. And the best way to break a team like Kamalaq. And listen, it's not a news thing, Paul. - Yeah. - For a day, don't. - You faced it. - Hi, for a day, don't. Everybody's trying to stop you. Come away for a point, another day, it was slightly different because the goalkeeper just got the ball and he sounds, fell fast back and kicked over your head and you had to go and win it back. So it was near an opportunity to press in the respect up. But a lot of very good things. - We're going to go in the lines in a second or two, Mark. Some of the headlines today. Hatter, boy. Man of the match. It's not matter. I mean, he did have a really good game, but Real Hittati, this is what we didn't see this time last year. - Yeah, he was terrific yesterday. Paul, I thought it was a deserved award in the man of the match. And the concern would be that there's going to be real interest in Hittati before this window closes, because Celtic have got top performance. I don't think you can sell the tournament. I think you can sell matter really, but you can't sell the tournament. Another thing as well, and the flip side of that, where are the signings for Celtic Paul? I mean, where are the signings yet again? There's 60,000 turning up. They've plowed more than 30 million quid season ticket money in. Lobast, they produce another 120, 150 quid for Champions League Money, if not more, because they're more games now. They need signings and they manage their needs signings. They have signings and they can't leave it too late. All right, Peter, I'll throw it to you in a second or two. Shall we go on the line? So, 08, 08, 17, 17, 700, the goal, Radio Football Show. Stephen is on the line, a Rangers fan. Hi, Stephen, good evening. - I know, but I think if you're on your team, Mark, how's the final? - I say, it's all good, Stephen. - How's Paul here? - Yeah, he's still giving me a laugh at your back talker. I'm just listening here a bit. We have the signings for Celtic, Mark, I don't know. I tell you something, they do not know how that guy is going to be a Chelsea. Yeah, I'm going to be a Chelsea eventually. - Right, Stephen, are you on at the French in Edinburgh? - No, I'm on the French on Barcelona, French on Barcelona. What my point is, I was watching that at the Angels, I'll be there in time cancel. - Yeah. - And I watched it, I draw. How did that Angels board gave him another extension up to 20, a new contract is beyond me. I've no gas stadium, I've no gas team. The manager to me is nowhere there. So, where are we going to? What's going to happen to us? Because I can't see a range of finishes. I mean, fourth, what a minute. - But do you think that, Stephen, it's Peter here at that? I'm not sure it's from what's fault to be careful, honest with you. I think it's been difficult for them. It came out at a difficult situation after the Michael Beal scenario. There was a lot of money, proud and players that they thought. And the Angels fans quite rarely saw, but excited about it. I mean, football was excited about it because they thought all of a sudden there was going to be a challenge again. And that fell flat. And I think it's come in and it spoke very well, probably up to the 3C game. And I think after the game, when you start and say it was a moral victory, and you know it was a range of supporters, I don't think it's a level take a draw against cell ticket, especially at home and think it's a moral victory. And that was probably the first time you let his sort of guard down a little bit. And I thought he struggled after that. But I must admit, he says the right things. He's trying to do the right things, and he's trying to keep it poised of whether he's getting the money. I think he knows the players that he would want, he would like to get out of the club, and also know he knows the players that he would like to bring into the club to make range us better. If that's all possible in this window, I'm not so sure, as I say, because we've been in a similar situation, Stephen, if you remember, when we did go to Hamden for a year, and it was a terrible year for supporters, players, and other than the like, it was really difficult. So I think you've got to give him time. I think he's doing the right things. He's trying to get out of his business and be positive at the end. That's all he can ask for for your manager. Mark, we've heard this before, haven't we? And it's so tough. You don't get time. Once the season starts, Rangers, this is going to be a tough season. What's the way through it, do you think, for Clemo? What would you say to fans like Stephen are saying that it's not going to happen? The fans that would be patient Paul and give him a break, because I think it's going to be a painful season. I think this month, I don't see Rangers getting pasting him okay, I have to be perfectly honest over the two legs. You're looking at Europa League football and the league, like we're saying, Celtic are miles ahead at the moment. I know that can change, but the moment I've said it, last week, the week before, John Bennett's statement, is preparing the Rangers supporters for pain and for them to be patient, because you can't keep sacking the manager. Because if any of them bronch costs a good manager, Michael Beal, no so short about Clemoan, is a good manager. So it's not all about the manager. It's the tools you've given to work with. They're having a downsize. So nobody's got a magic wand out there and the unfortunate thing for Rangers and the manager and the supporters and the board is Celtic. I've got tens and tens and tens and tens and millions in the bank. They've got a first-class manager who's worked through the team, has a good harmony going, and they've got winners and leaders in that squad. So Rangers are miles behind it. I don't know how they make the ground up Paul. Certainly not short-term, that's why there needs to be patients and guys, like Stephen, coming on and being critical the manager the way he has. I get it, it's up to him, he deserves an opinion. That said, it's no bit John Bennett wants to hear. John Bennett, reading between the lines is asking for patients, because there's going to be a long painful road ahead between them and me. Stephen, can you give them time? No, you're on the give, anything. I've got a laugh there, a first-class manager, and I'll just choose you after your scores, we won't see him. It was like, good, he didn't play, he didn't play, he didn't play, he didn't play, he didn't play, he didn't play, he's a manager, he's a top manager, and you're just showing a complete lack of respect and toe, ignorance of the game and your comment about Brendan Rodgers. He won the FA Cup against Arsenal. All right Stephen, but listen, you're entitled to your opinion, you don't get much time, look at Ian Money. He couldn't think, I know they've already had the Cup games, Peter, but my goodness, who would be a manager in Scottish football? Me? Yeah, exactly. Great, hello, welcome to very close boardroom. Right? Yeah, not a bit of that. Listen, unfortunately, you know what football is like, and I know what it's like, I was the king after the Cup ties, I told you, Paul, the Cup is a nightmare, because you've got to not get players, you're not allowed to play trialists, especially these clubs are what you look at players, you don't get that opportunity to do it, the season finishes, and all of a sudden, it's beyond you, you're back and again trying to get people fit and play games, but they're games you're getting judged in, and I feel for them. And I got back to Stevie Robinson, I think it was two years ago I said to him, and I was sitting here, I was at a game against there to get beaten on, they were calling for his head, and then look at the job he's done, it's St Man, that's just shoji, and that's when he's got the players in and he's tried to build the club and tried to build the players. Yes, even St Man did they take a little bit of pain to try and get to the level. Now look at his team now, while they've done fantastically well in Europe last week, you look where they've done the hibs at the weekend after Europe, which people talk about, it's really tough isn't it, against the hibs side, you know, so the hibs side it was supposed to turn up and beat them, obviously they're game, and they look a real good outfit, the good pace, good players, substitute comes on in scores too, a substitute comes on in and actually sets up too, so it shows you the balance he's getting to his group, you know, and that's what Stevie's tried to do, so what I'm saying is, the League Cup is a nightmare, and I feel for anybody in their respect, I feel for the NMI and the losers on job of course, but they're saying it was over the last season and whatever, and what do you do, you know, that's, maybe they've got, maybe they've spoken to you about it, saying listen, we need to do much better, I can only see it that way, because it's definitely not, just after the upgrade result. It does get strangely so early, we remember, was that just over a year ago, Graham Alexander, on the eve of this season, because the European results were really, really poor, Mark, nothing surprises you, but did that, did you raise an eyebrow? Ian Murray, yes, taking the back, yeah, and I heard the news last night, Paul, totally taking the back, I can't imagine that Ray throws us, we'll get somebody lined up. Who do you think it's going to be? I don't know, I'm just throwing at you, we don't know, they've put Colin Cameron and John Porton's eyes out. Kevin Thompson, who worked with the Kelty Hartz, and won a title there with them, so he's worked with the owners before, so Kevin Thompson, maybe in the frame? St. Johnson against Aberdeen tonight, Paul. It's a zealot. To contribute to Jeff Brown. Oh, fantastic, yeah. Of course, we're standing after him, he hands over the club, to an American owner, so yeah, on the telly tonight, sell out at McDonald's, we'll be cracking 90 minutes. Jeff, a good guy, he's been there for a long time hasn't he? Yeah, two really good, the care about the club, the care about the community, and Nick getting the standing name, standing after him, I really deserve a tribute to him. Oh, that's brilliant tonight, yeah, sell out at McDemirpup, we don't hear that too often, so it's great to see that. Yeah, there was more maroon seats I could see at the weekend. I was going to ask both of us why all of his Rangers fans getting banned for going there, why is Celtic fans? And I don't mean just harps, I mean all the clubs. If I was Sky, I'd be saying to them, right, we're going to pull on money if these supporters are not allowed back in. Absolutely, it's an embarrassing for the Scottish game. Isn't it? A really embarrassing, Rangers fans stuck up the corner lap who make an unbelievable atmosphere, the same as the Celtic fans do, your same as Aberdeen fans do when they go there, that was a great place to go and play. You're sitting there and you're seeing maroon empty seats, first game of the season against Rangers, absolutely ridiculous. They were doing well there until you threw them in alongside the Aberdeen fans, the Rangers fans went like that, but no, you're absolutely right. No, but they followed, Mark, Mark, isn't it crazy? You know, it's the opening game of the season, Sky's there, there's no football in England, and you know, the Olympics, great and all that, but let's get back to the football. And then you see the gaps in a sunny afternoon in Ten Castle. Yeah, at times you look at it, it's quite happening, call for a game for our product, we'll try to do it, we can to sell it, to market it, to talk it up, to create a contest, to create an atmosphere, and there's no better stadium than Ten Castle to do that. But that's where you need relationships and common sense and boardrooms, because all these owners and chief ex and board members all vote for this, they all vote for it all out to be able. It's not on the old Doncaster's fault, it's not on the other's fault, the rules permit them to do this. And who votes for the rules? All your owners, all your chief executive. Absolutely, so if you take Sky away, Mark, Mark Sky convinced us, right, we'll pull our money, where are we going to go next? Okay, someday also get it again, but they'll give it for less money. And that's what it's going to take, because they're all getting away, but it's ridiculous, but I'm doing it, you know, but they weren't in charge, their own fans double money. So what about that one, I can't, what that one? Use pay double, so Celtic can't come, our Rangers can't come. It's absolutely ridiculous. We're crying for young players to come through. To be fair for the other clubs though, they started at Rangers and Celtic, also culpable, this nonsense about not having away fans containing numbers. I agree with that, I agree with 100%. I don't think even if Celtic gets two or three thousand, it's not enough, you know, stuck in a corner, it's dangerous actually. And I don't mean that's fact, it's dangerous, they need behind the goal again, that's the way it is, and give the same amount back to Rangers when they come to Celtic Park. We know the reasons, but it's got to be done, because we've got to sell this product, because if we don't, we're going to fall underneath, because young players are not getting through now, we see this Scottish national team in the performance, but people keep mentioning young kids, who's going to come, who we're going to sell the game to, if we're not allowing these young kids to come with their paints to watch the games. And that is my kind shame about it, because that's where you want to go and your father to watch your games. Well, we'll just be about a break news as well. Her burning, who lost heavily yesterday, it's a minute I've had a bid rejected for Dundee Captain Luke McCown, and of course, got to equalise the penalty kick. Yes, the terrific for Dundee in the middle of the park, last season, Bolton down south. Also, what on the fees were about £300,000, Dundee knocked it back. Don't go anywhere, there's more. This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcasts. Let's go, let's go. Well done to Duncan Scott, the Scott who's now the most decorated Olympian from Scotland ever, but he was really humble afterwards. He got silver in the pool the other night, and he said he's from Alawa. He said, look, I'm not Chris Hoyle, whatever. I'm not, you know, he was very humble, but it's brilliant. He's a great guy, I met him once at an ambassador for the Kilt Walk in Arnold Clark, and he's a fantastic guy. So, well done, young Duncan. Absolutely, yeah, good on him, brilliant. For sure. Now, this is an achievement. We don't realise how hard these guys work, and especially swimmers up to the crack of doing all our life, not just the last few weeks, all our life. You know, that's the thing, you know, we complain, being a footballer, you know, the best, we call it the best job in the world, but we're not up at half-five every month, that, myself, and at the pool. That's true, but you're still in training every day, aren't you? Yeah, I was trying to look after yourself, Paul, you might get to a certain age. I remember when I was at a huge age, but Peter, we were saying about Ian Murray going, and that was the best line in the first 25 minutes when you said, "Who'd be a football manager?" I said, and you said me. It's hard to get back into it, isn't it? And yet you've been West Ham, North City, of course, you're football when you were playing. Yeah, listen, I love the game, Paul, I love being involved in it, but it seems to be that you have the job at the fairment, never quite worked out in a respecter. And I wouldn't say it worked out in a respecter, but it's always been there. I think if you looked at the team and the players we had, no problem, and I'd bet myself against anybody, but unfortunately, if you don't get the opportunity, you can't show people what you can do. You'd go back in, though, wouldn't you? A hundred percent. Listen, you can never beat a version, Paul. The good times, the bad times, everything, you've suffered them all, and I've fortunate enough, I've been at many clubs working with some talk players, you try and learn off-talk managers, and you're still learning going to watch the games, I go and watch where the kids playing. You do all these things, you move through the times, as everybody talks about, but it's still a hell for a lot of things you've been doing. It was done years and years ago before, even I was a coach at a manager, because the fundamentals are so, so important. Dandy United and Dundee on Saturday 2-2, the Derby up there. We spoke a few moments ago about Luke McCown. He's wanted by... Hibs of Bolton. Yep, but the club are saying no. St. Marin 3-0 against Hibs. What a result there for the Paisley Saints. A door who's scoring in 48 minutes, and a double from Smith, a header, and then a short just two minutes later. What a start to the season. St. Marin fans, give us a call. O8, O8, 17, 17, 700, and that's in the back of a great win the other night in Europe. Celtic 4, Comannock, Nell, Hittati, Scales, Kun, and Rosten right at the end. Should there be a penalty? I think we will talk shortly about some of the incidents yesterday. What's it like under the new look? We know that with the new treatment of the handball, it came up in the Rangers game. We're going to talk about that in the moment or two. And then, as you know, Motherville and Ross County, Nell, Nell and Saturday, hearts and Rangers, Nell, Nell. Let's hear again from the managers. What about Oscar Cortes? So he got a knock just before half time, came back on, didn't last long. Fell down in a duel in a bad way, the first half. He hurt his knee, but he said, and he was tested also by the doctor. He said he was fine for the second half. But with his first sprint, he felt too much pain. So we need to take him off. At that moment, it's not the ideal thing, of course, because you lose a changing moment in second half. What's huge? For sure, in this period, where players are less fresh at the end of the game. But it's the experience of young players also, knowing your body and what is pain and what you can do or what you cannot do. So that's part of the journey of young players to get a better assessment around that. Mark, we'll find out whether or not he's going to be fit soon. Really tough start for Rangers. Peter said they gained a point at the weekend, and a few people did think they might lose at Tank Castle. What are you thinking about Rangers just now? And I'm going to ask you a bit of Lon Shank that he didn't score at the weekend. I think, first of all, Kennedy Hartz and the way they put inside of the poll, anything that's going to go to Tank Castle is going to have to play really well to come away with a victory Celtic included. For Rangers, we were talking about in Friday night, myself and Craig Moore. I said, "You've got to make a statement out in the day." Lassie's the last at Comannock. Put out the Champions League qualifiers of PSV, Michael will never recover for Licklin one. They need to go. Now, if you're serious, and I know we are saying now you need to be patient, and there's downsizing and stuff like that. But Rangers fans are still Rangers fans, and they expect to win the Lick this season. And rightly so. Well, that's why it's only happened. But for me at the moment, they look miles off at the quality players. No, good enough. You know, even Cortes, isn't they getting the bet of the full bag? Taylor in the Oakland 20 minutes. Anyway, I was impressed by Baron Ben Davis. Is it the answer? Well, he's brought off. Because Vaccas is giving them such a difficult time. You must hide enough left back, but I like what I'm saying. Winners, leaders. Other than Jack Butler's. Look, they'll be a bit nervous in the every preseason. So there's all sorts of different things. Get on, but they don't have a magic wand, and they don't have a bottomless pit of money. So I don't know how they go about becoming better, but they need to find a way. And that's up to the manager on this stuff. But you've got to look at the other side. If you're a Rangers fan, you've got to take a pause about it. I can say they got a point. The down is not lose there. It's for shame, you know. So that's the way you've got to look as a Rangers supporter. And it's difficult. You've got to look for positives, and it's so difficult because you look at a squad of players, and you're looking around out about Scott Wright was in Turkey. Was it two seasons ago? It was supposed to be seen in our last season. In Turkey, in any of his back being a Ranger, now he's a starter again. So there's wee things like that happening, you know, and you're thinking to yourself, is that, and that's no disrespect to Scott. That's where the managers ended up. You know, and that's where I'm saying, "Haggie, I'm not sure that I would use him if he's fit to play, to sell him." You know, similar to the situation we might have really. If he's good enough to be playing in your team, and in your team, you'd better play him. If he's one of your best players, play him. I wouldn't be staking him in the... Unless he was being the bad pro off the pitch, which I don't expect because he follows back ground. I don't expect him to be a bad pro in any shape or form. Maybe the manager's just put him there because he's just come back and he's behind the players. And I would talk that some reason, because if I was the manager, I would definitely use him if he was one of my better players. Let's hear what the manager said afterwards. I mean, he wasn't happy with the performance overall, especially, I think, in the first half. I was not satisfied with the first half, for sure, the first half hour. Were we lacked intensity in the duels? And a lot of long balls, and we didn't win the first duel. Also, not the second duel. Also, not the third duel. And because of that, we came under pressure by hearts. On the other side, also with the ball. We were not calm enough, not brave enough. Also, to do the right things with the ball and to be in the right positioning like we want. So, it was really important to have 50 minutes during halftime. To put things straight, to show them where we were going wrong. And to change that, and that changed a lot. Second half, we took control of the game. We played better football. We got good chances also. And we dominated the second half. So, I expect that to happen during the game. That's why we need to also experience on the pitch to guiding in moments. So, those are things to work on. Guys, you saw, again, they needed an out and out striker. Lon Shank was on the pitch. He didn't score for hearts, which was a blessing for Rangers. Peter, do you think he is going to go to Rangers? And would you take him to Celtic? I think it's him. I would take him. Of course, I would take him. You know, as a goal scorer, there's absolutely no doubt of that. I think Celtic may be looking in a different direction, in the respect that way. If he does steal the one that's getting mentioned, that depends how the value is going to come there. Because I think Norwich are going to play and get as much money as they possibly can. There is no doubt of that. Shanklin absolutely could play for Celtic because he could score goals. And then if you create chances, and he can also play the role Matt spoke about earlier on, when we were off there talking about can play that. So, at a deeper position now, because that's one thing you could never have done probably two or three years ago. I don't think I ever have seen them for that position, but you can see in the last two years, 18 months, he's definitely done that better. But the interesting thing was listening to Clemente there was exactly what he said. We didn't listen to that radio interview with him. We talked about, he was talking about waiting till half time to tell him. This is from Mark's talking about leaders. This is what I'm saying about, who's the guys on the pitch? I can't see that group there. They're waiting till half time to tell him. Well, you'd boy screaming at you on the pitch, get tired. Didn't win Jules. What you need to do when you've got your hearts, you need to win your Jules. Because that's what it's going to come down. It's going to come down your fight. Then if you're better players, you're going to take over. But it's going to be a fight for a period of incubating minutes. So, all the things that managers are saying is the thing's weird question, because we're going to look at the group of players. You know, when you hear that clip from Philip Camore, and he's actually highly critical of his play, I mean, he's picked them up with anyone. The first Jules, second Jules, third Jules. If you're a dangerous player, and you need to be told first and first to go and fight, and to win your Jules, and they get tighter, and they're going, you know, be aggressive, you shouldn't be anywhere near a Rangers jersey. If your manager's got to tell you that, the opening day of the season, in front of the cameras at 10 Castle, to do those basic fundamental things that you need to do, you shouldn't be anywhere near a Rangers jersey. That's why it's not a title winning team. Paul, on Lon Shankland, he's got a year to go on his deal. I don't think Philip Camore is utterly convinced by him. I don't think he thinks really he's an out-and-out player that's good enough for Rangers. I don't know if he thinks he's better than cereal basis. I would have Lon Shankland all day long, and I don't want to be disrespectful to his hearts, because hats are a big football club. Lon Shankland's got European football qualifiers to help him get through. But I think with a year to go on his deal, if hats think he's not going to sign a new deal, then I think you're looking at the guts of three million pounds to get him in this window. I think three, I can understand hat's point of view, but you might get him for a wee bit less, Paul, as you get into the last few days. A Lon Shankland decide to sit when he's contract down Peter, and take all the money free sale this time, actually, in good order, if he does. Well, I wouldn't have thought it was him. If Rangers are Celtic, come chant mad or if I'm at hearts, I'm going to Rangers are Celtic. Nice, no disrespect to hearts. Rangers are a bigger club than hearts, Celtic are a bigger club than hearts. And you want to play in the Champions League, you want to play with teams that's got a chance, you win in the league, you want to win Cup. You want to do that? And hearts of Stephen Nesmith, as I say, I thought after the debacle at the start of last year, we were having different managers and whatever. One site set all down, I thought he was done an outstanding job for them. You know, so great credit to him and what he's built with the group he's got just now. They do look stronger, squad than Rangers. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, and Danda says he thinks they could win the league. Well, I'll look at them. But has he been on the drink or what? I've been checking that out, right? You're sure? We did have a good game. Yeah, I'm sorry. Yeah, yeah. Well, it's your third, sixth and third, eight. You know what I mean? You're suddenly patty perk. No, but listen, let's be honest. I'll look at the squad of players and I think, wow, they're a stronger group. You know, they're dangerous. I'll look at the substitutes, Nat Telji, who's got the stronger group of players. And at this moment in time, you'd be saying hearts have got a stronger group of players all up and you look at the two benches at the weekend. There's absolutely no doubt of that. But if you're talking about the size of club and what's their expectation is and what you've got to try and do. Rangers have sell to come calling. If that's the two clubs you've got the choice, you have to select one of them. Even though you've got a year left, you pick up more money. That doesn't matter. For me, it'd be absolutely crazy if that was just the reason he was waiting to get more money out, because it's a free. I'm going to hear from more from Brendan Rogers in the moment of two. I know it's a big day at Celtic Park. Yesterday, the flag unfurled just before the game by Jim Craig. But go to a break soon. But before that, he's full up on the mound saying, yeah, he knows the team are going to have to improve. He was looking at the result and it was really strong. Mark, you picked out those key points there. We're going to become better. Robin was also, Robin proper was also with the squad today. But if you don't train with the team, you cannot play a game. And it's a slim squad, Mark, isn't it? We heard that earlier from him. They don't have that many players there that are ready to play. The fact that Conor Barron came out and spoke afterwards. Good on the young player, but you would expect something to establish. It's obviously the long term's gone. Yeah, I mean, yeah, you look at that. I mean, Paul, again, and I said a bit four, five months ago, Conor goals and time was up. And I've said the same, I think now a bit about James Tavern here. It's that he needs a fresh challenge. Seriously, if you're serious, you think you're going to want to title with Ben Davis as one of your centre-huffs. We said Odessias as you're centre forward with Cortez, the great suspect, I know he's picked up an injury, a young boy. And this is nothing against those players, nothing against the manager, because he's got constraints, financial constraints with what's to work. But it's not a title winning team. Paul over 38 games compared to Celtic. But of course, you need to wait for them in the window and assess it, because it's got a lot of coming and going in the next two and a half weeks. But Rangers are a long, long way off it. And Celtic were absolutely buzzing yesterday. I thought we watched it in the daily, Peter was there. The one one that came back to me was something that we used a lot on the ranch poster call when we spoke of it Celtic. Relentless, they were absolutely buzzing. One more on that next. This is the Gore Adios football show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcast. Let's go! Paul Cooney, Peter Grant. Mark Greedy and lots of calls coming in. After a weekend, we're at the top of the table. It's Celtic and St. Morinoff on four points. Everyone else drew, but what's going to happen tonight? Sellouts in Johnson against Aberdeen. Rangers in action to Morinite in Poland against Dynamo Kiev. Let's hear from Brendan Rogers. Then we're going to go on to speak to a Celtic fan in a moment or two. Brendan Rogers, four nil yesterday, always looking for things to improve. But he liked the way they started. Yeah, I think that that's always key. I think for us, we always want to start quickly. And our game idea today was to do everything quickly. You know, with the throw-in spot on play corner, which is where we could just get the tempo of the game up. So that side of it was very good. No, obviously, individual quality is important, but collectively it's about the team. I'm very happy because I look at it as now when we play against the different types of systems in the man-marketing. Because it's not easy. And then come on, the guys are very, very fit. They make it very difficult, very, very physical, which is what the game's about. But we can manage it. Are we through that really, really well now? You know, I feel that whether it's a man-marketing team, if there's space or teams in a low block, that this team is improving all the time. So we had to get through that today. And like I say, some of the combination play and the attack in the moments in the game was very good. Very pleasing was our counter-press for the first goal. And with lots of other moments that allows us to sustain the attack, because as soon as we lose it, we were right onto the game and to get the ball back. Peter, the good times back for Brendan Rogers. Last year, we know it was a stickier start. What do you feel after the first game? No, I think exactly what you said there. I thought against the ball, when you'll lose the ball, the step right on right away. And it happened that he's right about the goal, because Mattarelli's chased it under a little bit of pressure. Greg Taylor's nicked it. Greg Taylor's then slipped out to Hatai to put some ball in the back of it. And that's important for your players. And I'm listening to Brendan here talking about quick free kicks, throw-ins, everything like that. That's all things that Celtic have been traditionally. My eyes are playing after you talk about Celtic man, Billamie Neil, David Hay, Tommy Buns. That was constantly training every day, because you knew it were going to be playing against. Most teams were there to stop you playing, or stop you winning and make the holes, and you had to try and grasp that. That's when I think they're a better team. When they play quickly, forward. Like giving the ball to the wide player. Give them it, and let them get a 1v1. Let them take them on. James Forrest was very positive in the first half. Couldn't be very positive. You know, they wouldn't get in the full-backs. Wouldn't get in the road at times, which I feel sometimes happens by having the boys running the underlap. They can't get the crossing. And then they pass the ball back to Callum, who's about 30 yards deeper. So all these wee things were much more positive in the fact. Now, I really enjoyed watching that. Take the chance of giving the ball away. That was what we were always talking about. I'm going to be giving it away more than most. But your goal was to take the chance of giving the ball away. We've seen the player be looking forward to your first pass. And I think that was a different chance of that. And then when they lost possession, they got it back so quick. I thought as well that a key to how well Celtic played yesterday, Paul. And you were right to draw a comparison at the last season. I thought Kyogo was so alert, so bright, so hungry looking. He gave them that focal point. And I don't mean it's a big target, man, but that focal point, he could have two or three goals. I think we'll speak a bit far. We'll shoot it for a penalty. But if you compare Kyogo to last season, he still scored a couple of wonderful goals. One in goal against Rangers at Ibers, et cetera. But he wasn't himself compared to what he was like on the run. So maybe he's getting used to Brendan in his ways, Brendan getting used to him. He'd also lost his two main providers, Abad and Jota. So now he's getting new ones, cooning for us. I mean, so all they put all that into the mix. I thought he was superb yesterday. And when your number nine is on it, that could spread on the rest of the team. Kevin, are you on it? Yeah, I'm sorry. Let's do it, because I know, because you always said he wasn't getting the supply last year. Kevin, how are you doing? Good evening. How are you doing, boys? Are you all right? Hi, Kevin. Oh, we're just forward, which is absolutely outstanding for the first game of the season, especially against a common excited, but flying this last flying last season, Brendan Kennedy's obviously got on the road. So I wasn't expecting it. I wasn't expecting the five, no, any of the season, but I certainly wasn't expecting before now yesterday either. But I just thought it was odd how good Celtic was. I don't think it was anything I thought it would be. How bad, climatic? Well, I just don't think that they had any answer for this. They could be caught with a press, as soon as we lost the ball. We were getting it back within two, three, four seconds and having it back on. And I actually can't really speak about a couple of things, but my side system, I'm going to do it. I'll be right there. Hugo was absolutely outstanding yesterday. And I thought, I don't know how Mark and Peter, thank you for this, but it's as if he's almost now a Brendan Rodgers player. He's totally changed his game last season. He was coming deep and getting the ball and can I lay it off back or lay it off wide. But yesterday he was taking the ball in his feet and looking for wee balls from the corner and passing and moving forward. And he was finding tons of space. He was really alert. I'm looking like I got a couple of goals. But before he was outstanding yesterday, but you could really get through the foul team. He was outstanding because I thought the foul team were great, but just so, so positive. I guess the only negative was the penalty. I mean, I'll just try to be clear. I actually think Hugo resolved side, but according to Sky Sports, it never went too far. So the referee is basically just no data. And if the referee doesn't hang on, that's a foul, I guess everybody a joke. I think if it went too far, they probably would have been given. But my main point is how the referee doesn't hang on. Apparently, he's just wiped Hugo clean up. Mark, I thought it was a penalty. Yeah, I thought it was a penalty. That's nothing more to be said. I thought it was a penalty. But yeah, I agree with Kevin in terms of for Greg Aikin, who's a VAR, who's one of our main operators in VAR, having $100 for the two main VAR men. For him not to flag that up, and for Don Robles that he'd go and have another look at, then I was surprised. We expected him to do that, Peter. I don't know if you were obviously there. You were doing it on Celtic TV. Did you expect that he would look at it? But I don't think the referee was invited to look back. I don't think, if Don can't see what's happened, that's fine. He'll just go up to ask. And they've got the same as a penalty kick. The way I look at it, Paul, is I thought it's the centre half. Hugo knocks a ball by the centre half, and the centre half brings him down. It's a penalty kick. So it's the goalkeeper, the ball's still in play by the way. The ball doesn't go out. So it's a stone wall penalty kick. It's an error, and that's fine. What's the on-side? Yes, because I heard after that he was on-side. There you go, it's definitely on-side. There you go, there you go. He said he definitely was on-side. Yeah, there was no off-side there. So first I was the exact same as Kevin. I thought maybe he's just off-side with his arm, but I don't know if that counts anymore yet on him, because you can't score yet on him. And I think that was the only thing that was over the line. But his body was behind it, so it was a definite penalty kick. But on Hugo I disagree with Mark, because I thought Hugo was good last year. I think his movement was good. I think they didn't pass the ball followed enough. I think every time we get the ball last year, the wide players would run up, and then pass the ball all the way back to Carla McGregor, 30-40 yards further back to pitch. And you see Hugo making the runs, even done one yesterday. And Mark really actually apologised to him, because Hugo has made an unbelievable run. He's between the two centre backs. He's checked and then done the double run. He said, "Come short, spun in, and he's an acres." And Mark played square. And Mark knew right away. Mark put his hand up. And I thought he'd done that L for a lot last year. And I know he got criticism. Then he started to try and get involved in the game, which I don't think a big part of his game. I love him in between the sticks, because that's when he scores his goals, and that's when he's moving to Berlin. So you can hear the Celtic fans, Kevin not least, absolutely buzzing. OK, Celtic no midweek game, Rangers have to go. They're in Poland now for a qualifier tomorrow night. What are Celtic doing this week then? Is there going to be word on Ida? Norwich apparently are prepared to deal now. I don't know what that deal is. Matt O'Reilly you heard, Kevin at the top of the programme. Brighton are now in, they want him, and there's others as well. So, to keep the momentum going here, Mark, what do you reckon this week is at time? You can't just magic up a signing board. You can't, but what Celtic need to do, Paul? And I'm just thinking it's politics, it's PR. It plays a small part in it, but it's also an important part. So, if you're Celtic and you are going to sell Matt O'Reilly, you want to get your time and sport on as to when your next guy in. So ideally, if you're Celtic, you want to sell Matt O'Reilly. If he's going to go, if it's inevitable, then do it in the next year, four days, but have Ida ready to come in the following morning. You don't want to sign Ida tomorrow, and 24/0 later saying Matt O'Reilly. You've got to do it in reverse. So it's a bit time and it's just about getting that. All too, it's just about getting good players in the door, Paul. And so far, Celtic haven't been good enough at it. This one though, but it's still two and a half weeks to go. Kevin, what are you feeling about Matt O'Reilly? I think there's absolutely zero percent chance in Matt O'Reilly, leaving Celtic to go Ebrine. There's no chance to go Ebrine. No, not a chance you leave to go Ebrine. I think if it's something like a Chelsea, an athlete to go Madrid and an artist or something like that, I definitely, I don't think that he'd be too ambitious to want to leave Celtic. We are still champion league format, playing on the Brendan Rodgers, playing Celtic part to go Ebrine. I think it's too intelligent for that. I think that he knows that his next move needs to be a team where he can develop even further. And I don't think he's going to be able to develop any further than Brian, but that's just my opinion. I need to suspect them. I know the Premier League is massive, but I don't see any need for a player like him to go a bomb feeder club in the Premier League. He wants to be going to a club that's competing for a wish European places. We've been linked with a boy, Hannah Bo-Merge, green in 1980, and as post goes, he's opinion on himself. He'd go by, he'd be abroad, you're saying it. So, I found it's just alone, but hopefully we can eat in. As I say, we need to get Ebrine. We need to get Ebrine, but not each other. How much would you pay for him, Kevin? - Who, either? - Yeah. At the minute, seven and a half, eight-million, Max, between seven and eight-million. - That's maybe going to be the problem, because I think Norwich are not after. They're certain things. Oh, Celtic, maybe at 20 million or 25 million for a matter, really. Okay, we're going to try and get 12 to 15 years for a, a guy who wasn't playing for them, to Celtic actually put him in the window. And I think that's maybe the problem. It's not necessarily Celtic's fault what's going to happen here by the other situation. I think they could maybe just be priced out. I really do. It's a lesson. It's a lesson. When you take a play and learn, get a fee built on it to make it pay on it. So it's a lesson there as well. Peter, I'm remembering how they've time to do it, because it was the last minute signing for the window in January. But it's a lesson for the Celtic hierarchy. I agree with Kevin. I said it all night. If you can get Adamida for seven and a half, do it all day long. - Yeah. - Oh, if you're honking about or chatting, I come for 4.8, 5.2. Be realistic. One, get the job done. Cause you ain't getting them now. And you ain't getting them on August the 30th for 5 million quid. You might get them now for seven and a half. Go and pay the money. - They did it with Jordan and Carter Vickers. Would that be right? They had a fee. They were both to hank around six million. And then it was done. - He said that I can't impact them. Edward, boys, I don't know whatever you're saying. But Edward gave you PSG. And we paid nine money from them. This is just my opinion. Edward was brilliant by my opinion. Eda had an even better impact and made meaningful impact than where Edward had, and Edward was nine million. So go and pay the money. - Wow, and so it fans loved Edward. - Yeah. - It's different circumstance. I get it, Kevin, same. It's different circumstance. Eda was alone and they played in group. Edward was alone, but he came in at the start of a season and took a while. You think it was behind them, barely in the picked order. - Yeah. - But Eda played a vital part in Celtic one in the league. Last year, you look at his goals, penalty kick goals as well, and the contribution that he made, he made a major part. - And he wants to be there. - Yeah. - But let's not be kidding. - He's still in the WhatsApp group. - Yeah. - He wants to be there. You know, the Celtic fans want them there. He wants to be there. And it's one of these suggestions. He's come and done very well. Everybody questioned it at the start. And I was wondering, I said, at the time, I said, the one thing he wants to score goals, as he read it, he scored enough goals for Celtic. But that time will tell because we don't know that they're in the building. And he's done fantastically well. You know, I'd seen him on off at the origin. I thought he'd make an impact. Not as good an impact as I probably had. And getting a winnare against Rangers was summed up really for him. And that's why he's so desperate to come back. And it'd be a fantastic scene for them. But we have to be careful that we don't get priced up to that level because that's, that's your goal. I think, like I said, Norwegian, obviously... - Well, what would you pay from here? - I would say, Mijoo, but I've seen... - It couldn't get you down. - But now they're still on about 10s and 12s or whatever. Then that's completely different. That's completely different. And the knowledge I've got, I think he's got four-year left. And he's got contracts, knows if it's two-year. And the knowledge is thinking, oh, that's good money for us. - They've been clever, haven't they? - Absolutely. - They've just got four-year left. - Kevin, thanks for the call. - Peter, are you on a WhatsApp group still with Roy Eken? - Yes, unfortunately, yes. - This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen live weeknights from five on go. - Let's go! - This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcast. - Call, await, await at 17, 17, 700. - Let's go, go, go, go. - We're still on week one of the football season, because tonight it's a sellout. St. Johnson against Aberdeen, Jimmy Tilling gets a life under way in the William Hill premiership after to conclude the weekend. It's been quite a weekend. The football was great to have it back on. In the first time we had Rangers fans, Stephen was on, for example, he's not happy. He's worried about the manager, he's worried about the ground, the factor at Hamden, and worried about the season. Rangers now in Poland for the game tomorrow night, and that's a crucial game, isn't it, Mark? Obviously it is, because if Rangers can get through this week and next week, £4 million for the playoff itself. - Yeah, I mean, I think that we're really tough to get past. You know, I don't think I have to be honest, but I don't fancy Rangers to do it. But we want to see them do it. We want things in the Champions League and Financially, what a booster would be. That said, if they do get past the Nokia, I would fancy Red Bull Soul Spot to be 20, but you know, if 20 managed to find the way Rangers against 20, Rangers would fancy their chances all day long and that one. But take it one game at a time, but it's going to be really, really tough. But what you want to do tomorrow night, the game in Poland, is bring it back to I books a week tomorrow, still in the tie. Just keep yourself in the tie. Even if you lose 1-0 or 2-1, would you just keep yourself in the tie? - Rangers fans, at the weekend, were you there at Tyne Castle? There's not that many of you because of the new rules. But Peter, we were told this season it's going to be different with the referees while he called them, started well, spoke well I thought the week before. And so they put about the penalty incident, Hartzfeld, that they should have had a penalty when the ball came off of Connor Barren, off his arm, his hand. What did you feel? - I don't think it was a penalty. I'd been really disappointed. Oh, we can, I'll go into conclusion, Paul. If it was me, whether I'd be disappointed, it was a team, I was a manager for the coach off or whatever, but I'd be disappointed it was given against me 100%. I would be, and I think it'd have been a direct decision. So a bit interesting to show you things move on because the biggest problem of hard work, when it does happen, we've not given the penalty. Two weeks down the line, we end up giving a penalty. And that's where the arguments come with everybody else. And that's my concern. But I thought the decision was right. I thought the one at Celtic Park was wrong. I think the one Tyne Castle was correct. - Mark, what do you feel? - It works at the Telly Pole. I thought this will go to Ivan, it'll be a penalty kick. I don't want to see it being a penalty, because I think Connor Barren, you know, he's trying not to get in the way. But based on some of the penalties that were given in Scottish football last season, I'm thinking that is a penalty kick all day long because there was many penalties given last season for a lot less. However, if the new directive from Willy Colum, the SFA is literally a wee bit more lenient, a wee bit more understanding to the defensive player. I'm all for that. So like we say, as long as this consistency, then fine, but I was surprised that wasn't given as a penalty. - The you and others have called for common sense, and common sense is there's nothing to do with it. - Yeah, but I'm basing my opinion on what I saw last season. But if I've moved on from that, I'm going to be a bit more lenient. I'm all for that because there was too many penalties given last season for nothing, basically. So it was refreshing to see it not to be given, but I thought it would have been. - Gary, in the God, what's good evening, Gary? - Evening, Paul, where are you guys? - Evening, Gary. - Good to hear you, Gary. Can we check with you? I know you're a big Celtic fan. What do you feel? Should that have been a penalty? - Well, I think to be fair, I think as Mark says, I think going on last season, I think it's very, very difficult for fans, because some fans will say it was a penalty. I think it probably, I would have probably gave a penalty, but as I say, if we're going down this road, as Mark says, consistency has to be the key, and every referee has to go down that same route. Whether we'll see that is a definite matter. - But it has to be no surely, Gary, because I agree with all three of you, it shouldn't be a penalty. There's nothing Connor Barron can do, but we need to see that in every single game now. But this is a good indicator. Will he come and can show? He can make his Mark and Scottish football that will get more sensible refereeing. - But when you look at the only thing, I can kind of contrast it with. If you remember the German and Denmark game in the Euros, and I think Germany got a penalty for I can remember who was it, crossed the ball into the box, and it flicked off everybody's hand, and it's kind of a wee bit similar, and everybody was clacking up saying, "That's never a penalty kind of thing." So I think it's very, very similar to that, where they probably shouldn't be given a penalty, as a penalty, but... - Mark, I thought I just started, sorry to interrupt there, Gary. Just one other thing, just I want to give praise to Stephen Naismith for his post match comments, because he said, "J, fair enough." I don't think it is a penalty. And again, he said, "But as long as our consistency..." Now, as a manager, he's not lost the game, but he's not won the game, and that could have been a key point. It would have eased if it hadn't, it turned the tide on, on a match referee, Nick Walsh and VAR, Andrew Dallas, but he didn't. And I thought that was a really positive approach to see that more. Let's call him, say, the stuff. We've got more respect from players and managers towards refereeing. I thought Stephen Naismith set a good tone as well, in terms of managers, how they deal with referees. You're unfortunate. That's a very good point. Anybody that's ever watched football, notes from Sunday tries to handball it deliberately. Anybody that knows football, the worst thing I see now is, defenders can out their hands behind their back. That's me insane. Then, when a defender goes to sleep to stop a cross, but his balance has got to put his hand down, and it hits him in the hand, and he gives a penalty kick. But it's absolutely nothing you can give. He'd do that as a defender. So I would rather have that, because it is the worst thing I've ever seen. I've started abroad, and I've said it many times, only had a hand in Spain, with all just started clipping the ball up, hitting your hand in the forgiven penalties, and they had to change that. Anyway, Gary didn't say the new season's here, and I'm going to phone Go Radio to speak to Peter Grant, and Mark Guidi to talk about Rangers. Gary, what about Celtic? Picked up where we left off, obviously, last season and the preseason. I thought we had that really good preseason, but I tend not to take too much, put too much stock in what happens pre-season, because a lot of trouble in changing my team's kind of thing. But I was really impressed by how we played, starting to get a wee bit of style now. It seems in yesterday, I know it's difficult because come on, that never really got out their own half kind of thing. They never really laid a glove on. It's the world we teams at, that, well, probably heart is more. In no scenarios, but I just thought they were excellent from back to front, basically yesterday. No, I agree, and I think they'd one chance come out, and it was a time counter-vickers get rolled with Vasil, and he's clipped it to the back post, and he's straight at Casper's make-up. And I think that was zero, zero from right, I'm not 100% sure. I'm not, if there was one now. No, no, I think that's about zero, zero. But that's what I'm seeing, it's one of these moments. That's what teams are going to get with Celtic. I think it was Casper's first touch of the ball at that particular time. But Celtic, by the excellent, I think it's important that they never let come on or could. They never let them use Vasil as often as they possibly could, because they've been allowed to lift their head and play that ball forward, which is going to cause Celtic a problem. And I think that's great credit to your front men. As people always say, your first defender should be your main striker. And that's what happened in the game. They were putting them under so much pressure all over the pit. Danny, what about Nicholas Kuhn who had a great pre-season against Man City in Chelsea? What about that run? I know it didn't create a goal, but a brilliant run, and it nearly came off for him. What did you think of him over the 90 minutes? Yeah, the feeling that moment, especially, and it's probably one of those moments, it deserves it to be a goal. And I thought he's going to have a really good season for it, because I think he struggled, obviously, in the early stages at Celtic. And you can see the player in there and you've seen him pre-season already, and you've seen yesterday, how good a player it could become. Down that winging, he needs to cement that position for himself now. And all of his legends for us is back in the team yesterday as well, because guys are out and Jordan hopefully will be back for heads in Sunday. But yeah, Nicholas Kuhn really, really impressed him yesterday. As I say, it just needs to keep that what rate up and that kind of talent. But just going by players and hitting that byline, getting the ball across kind of thing. I think that's what he'd done very well, actually. He never just went, when he showed him the byline on his right foot, he crossed that he tried to cross it. But as last year, he always felt he tried to get back on his left foot. And I think that was a big improvement on it. When you go there and somebody, as a defender, when they're going both ways and they can cross wide their foot, James Forrest done the same in the opposite side. Both of them done it. And I think that's very, very important if you're playing that way, that everyone is not coming back the way. And I think that was a big difference for me. And that's why I thought we created so many chances. Mark? Yeah, I mean, I think as well, when you look at this time last year, Celtic brought in what has been regarded as a 7-8 project player. It was far too many. This is where you get, it's very, very unfair to give a manager on the staff that amount of project players. Peter will know, you don't have the time to dedicate yourself to go and work away with all these guys and improve all them. But what you can see is Brendan Rogers has clearly identified two or three that he thinks, right, OK, I can find a way to improve them. I will give my time to be these guys. So you look at, you look at Coon, you look at Liam Scales, you look at Palma as well, the improvement in power. Matt, really, Matt, really is improved under Brendan Rogers. So we different things. So I think, you know, in many respects, Brendan Rogers is the ideal manager to give projects too. But he just can't, you know, like a fire sale. Liam, he ain't running out because it's no going to work. But his ability as a manager has never been in doubt for me. But yesterday to get off to the competitive season in that fashion sent out a frightening message. I'm watching the game on the telly. And I'm actually, I'm feeling ever so sorry for the command that players and things. If there's any other footballer for many of the other 11 team, 10 teams in SPFL premiership, they would say, Oh, my God, I'm not looking forward to playing self-taught this season. No, genuinely, you know the whole thing. Oh, God, if you're a manager, Peter, I coach you behind. Damn, he's on my team. Let's just try and get out of here. He is unscathed as we can. And I can back up the road. Yeah, no, definitely. But listen, we know what football was like. Self-taught lost a couple of players that started last season. You know, our title was just about to help form. And all of a sudden, he was out for a period of time. Massive blow. You've got the situation we were hanging about. That could change all of a sudden. All of a sudden, but rarely is not there. So there's loads of things that can change. It's not just the way you're playing. You're thinking everything's swimmingly just now, and you want that to continue. And you need that to happen. You need everything to go for you. You need everybody available. But all you get through a preseason, a certain injury apart for your guys and me either. And apart from that, everybody was available for the first game of the season. Any manager, that is the one thing you ask for, as you get everybody available for that first game of the season. And they were outstanding. And I've tend to put... You've got James Forrest now at their now. And every time they're going to know, they're making it for the difficult for the manager. And that is what makes this team better. I think that's the difference now. The changes you can make, and the guys that can stay in the team with their performers, or if they come in, they're definitely making their performance for the self and the team. And that's important. Yeah, you need two players for those positions. So they do well on the left leg. You need another central defender. On Sky at the moment, Gary, you'll see just a moment ago, Matt O'Reilly showed you there an old goal from him. So Brighton are in talks. They're talking with Celtic to see if they can get a deal. We heard Kevin earlier on said, Brighton, no way, should be if he goes, then it should be a bigger club. Would you feel, Gary? I totally agree with that scenario of... And I know you look at the module van date scenario. You know where the module van date went to Southampton, everybody was like, "Why is he going to Southampton?" But, you know, he got lucky, he got his move to Liverpool, and now he's won everything in the game, basically. So, yeah, it can work both ways, because when you look at Gary, who are going to Norwich, it went the other way, and it didn't work out for him. I do think he deserves a bigger and better club, with all due respect, Brighton are the great club, and there's, you know, the blueprint of how they play football, and the players that they've got is brilliant to watch. But as I say, like, when you hear clubs that are less than in Southampton, are talking to him, I think it's just, at least I'm praying with every fibre of my body that it stays. And I think he could easily stay, and I don't think it would bother him about leaving this season. You know, he might leave next season, but I do think there's too many clubs, now there's too much talk about him, and I do think, before the February 4th of August, they will go. So, but time in, isn't it? Yeah. And per that, it will not get the opportunity to go to Brighton unless Brighton match Celtic's number. So what we're doing here is Celtic will be looking at, coming up with a number, and we'll do quickly spread. So whatever it is, Brighton agree, 22 million guaranteed, and 5 million addons. There's a number setting. That's in it then, if they agree that, matter really can go and talk to another, if they go and talk to Brighton, and other clubs, if they're genuinely interested, say, "Okay, that's a number. Do we want to pay that for him?" Let's go and talk to them. You might find that matter really gets two or three options all next year, four days, but I agree, I don't think it would overly boil on to stay, but I think with the level of interest, and money talks as well, personally, let's say for Tottenham's sake, Ane's 25 grand a week at Celtic, which is fabulous money. It'll go down the road and earn 90, 100, 110 a week. That's what will happen. So you times out over four or five years. So for me now, Paul, I'd say it's 75% that matter really will be away, and I think there's every chance you could be away with in the next 70s. But he's practised the new dance when they got the goal yesterday. I'm just looking at the paper, along with the club. I was so good for that. I was so good for that. I was about to say, "Have I been on the part?" "I'd have so good for that." So he's valuing down, cos I'm not kicked at you, etché. I'll tell you what it shows you, though, he's giving everything, isn't he? He's been brilliant. Have you seen it earlier? Have you seen him? Have you seen him? He's a fantastic kid. He's a great kid. He's an intelligent boy. I think when he's saying the contract, Christmas time, there's no doubt that Celtic has smoked him, probably up to his wages then, and have also said, "Listen, if we get this fee from anybody, then we'll say it might have been such and such as in, it's 20 mile away, and that's the feed of greed between Celtic and Matt." As soon as that comes in, we'll hear you speak. And I think that'll happen. That's what's already happened, I believe. But Matt's not stupid, and I agree 100%. I keep saying that. I've been anybody and been down in England all that time. Even people talk about Chelsea, "But I'd be going to Chelsea for a bit some?" Not for me. That's just me. The difference you've got to take. It's a way to do this. Yeah, but even a part of that, you're a Celtic fan. These boys on the side. And I don't mean they don't love the club, they don't. But you're a Celtic fan. Your mindset on Celtic is completely different. They matter to Ailey's, and Mioha Tati's, and apart from the weekly wage. And I don't mean that. No, I know you're saying that. You're a different breed when it comes to what you think about Celtic compared to these boys. But I think that's what they'll miss. But I think that's because you can't replicate that. You can go out and play for Chelsea. You can go out and play for Braden. You can go out and play for what other. It's never the same. The police believe me, they're lovely against itself. But it's not the same. And that's very, very difficult to get that. Look at, sorry. Chris Sutton and John Hartson, who played at huge clubs, Chelsea Arsenal. We know the story, nor it. But it's basically Chelsea and Arsenal between the two of them. But they're Celtic legends, aren't they? I don't think they go to as many Chelsea things in Chris Sutton's case. I'd also tell you what, they wouldn't have been revealed the way they were. So, that's what I'm saying. Not feeling you get hurt. Yeah, exactly. He's last season at City. Even they get that at Mansa. Absolutely. No. Terino. And that's the things that you've got your way up. It's not just the finance. But if it's done at finance, he's a way to break. Or he's Ryan Crust, who invented board moves. You don't need to sell it to go to board moves, and you don't need to sell it to go to Braden. That's not because of that fact. But unfortunately, finance is going to dictate both to Celtic, what they get. And obviously, as Mark spoke about, the wages they get, which is night and day. Here's the manager speaking about recruitment. Every managing coach will tell you. You want to for the first game of the season, but it's not there. I think that we see with the core group that we have, very, very good. So hopefully we can add more tools to that. Well, it has to be it. That's what this club is about. You know, the supporter of demands, the quality of player. We have a lot of players to grow and develop. We also need guys that can add that little bit of quality and change the game for you. So, that takes time. We're all ones at now. But we, as I said, hopefully over the coming weeks, we can get that in. Two quick questions for you, Gary. How good is it just now for you as a Celtic fan? Because things are really tough in the world. But yesterday, what, 60,000 Celtic fans, flag day, you know, sometimes things go wrong. It didn't for goal victory. How are you feeling? Yeah, obviously optimistic again. You know, because, you know, we've been touched with, we've not lost any of our kind of core players. We've brought in a palo Bernardo in a permanent contract. So that was a great bit of business. But, I mean, listening, in terms of like going ahead and looking ahead at trophies, obviously it's getting after the transfer window. See where we're at, squad wise, because I think the manager is probably looking at quality rather over quantity. And I think that's probably through straight in the fans. But yeah, optimistic. I do think we'll go on and win the league again, whether it's more comfortable than it was last year, because last year was really exhausting. The watch at times, I think, healthy hand ranges were really, really poor. But hopefully we can play a bit more pizzazz. A bit more style kind of thing. Just to touch on obviously at Mark was saying, you know, a bit money in terms of, I could go down to England and earn 100 grand. Is that a case of the money over medals, sitting with as a player at X players? But, you know, what would you... Could a player more of an event in your career? Would you prefer to send your trophies on your bank talents? Mark, good line. Well, I think I'll go back to my point. If you have Peter Grant, Celtic supporter, then you know, yeah, I think I think medals might outweigh it for Peter. But if you're a matter, really, then I would say 99 players out of 100 will go for money more than anything else. And I don't, I don't criticize him. For that. And would you criticize him for that, Gary? Yeah, I'd correct that anybody that... Listen, I get it's a short game. It's a, you know, it's a... It can be a short career for certain players and certain players won't play, like they'll run out of to the, you know, nearly 40 or whatever. But as I say, like, I was a member of the court from George's Samirass that he would... He always preferred to count his trophies over money kind of thing. And once I get it, it's a money-driven business, but... Why did they all sign this contract in the Celtics? Why did they leave? That's true, yeah. But when you're going down to your clubs, a little less than in Southampton, and not getting that move, then to Liverpool or Chelsea, had athletic or Madrid. Then, you know, what are you doing for this day of career? You look at Ryan Christie, he's down at bone muffins. I get that it might be on a great ridge, but they'll not go down in his trophies. He's playing every week in the, in his doing wheel of whales, with a contribution, I just think we're being, you know, another way, so if you matter, really, Gary, you see, well, I'd love to go and play for Liverpool, immaniated, right? But they're not going to come for you now. So what's my best route? I go down to Southampton, I'm born with a Brighton, and then, you know, two years down there, they'll come and get me in the meantime. What's the worst thing that happens? I stay where I am, and I'm earning four and a half million per year. That's it, and it's not... He's not one of the trophy now. He has now won at Sealtick. What's that? Seven trophies. Matt already has been involved in six or seven trophies. He's played in the Champions. He's like, "You mean, look at this?" We're all saying, "Yeah, no, Champions. "In our cricket, yeah. "Who've we brought in?" Am I staying at the Champions? They need to get battered four or five games? Or am I getting down the road to go here? And bearing the mind, he's never played in the premiership, down the road. So I'm going to be able to try for them. I'm going to Anfield. I'm going to stand for a bridge. I'm going to Newcastle. So you take all that in the account, as well, and I'll go back to it. He loves Sealtick. He's not a Sealtick supporter. He's no Scottish. He's from down the road. And even if he was... I get that, yeah. Like, Kieran Thurney went to Arsenal for £25 million. And it's an opportunity. The game has changed. Gary, could they do something in the Champions League? Final question for you? Because you get the sense, I mean, Brendan Rogers back here, and he wants to make some kind of mark in Europe. Yeah, yeah, depending on, once again, depending on who we're bringing in. You know, obviously, I think Schmeichel's a great bad business. So, was that a free transfer? Yeah. And obviously they're brilliant. Senator Sauer, who I don't know much about. But... You know, we're... He'll play here in the other season. But I think, well, Nardo's a great bad business. Can't say them, you know, that the fee was quoted as £6 million. We've gone for £3.5 million. I would... I'd be happy enough to wait to the fair in August. Beringing and possessions, it cover maybe a list that right back in another striker, whether we get the Adamida done, deal done or not. And obviously, we're going to need to replace Matt O'Reilly. Yeah. Because I've got the fear that he is going to go. So, as long as making... Waking salvos for spaces, and have that strength and depth that you talk about kind of thing, then... Yeah, absolutely. I worked for the Champions League every year. And I think the strange thing this year, because it's that different format, it's a kind of league format. And I've always been the thing that gathers just the best teams, just gathers your Barcelona, your PSG, your Real Madrid, because there's no point being in the Champions League if you're not going to play against the best teams. Peter, not agree with that. But I was going to ask the question, if you go to Adamida... Yep. And you keep Matt O'Reilly, and that was it. Would you accept that without filling anybody else? You don't want to get an Adamida, and you keep Matt O'Reilly in this window? Yeah. It would worry me more than the left back position, just because there's only great deal of the... you know, right back, you've always got Anthony Alston and Johnson as well. Well, he saw that, though. Do you have a lad the other week? I've got a young Anderson done. Yeah, he was impressed. A left back. He was no tired. I made America, and I thought he'd done exceptionally well. And I think if you're going to give him an opportunity, he was very, very good. And he could own a court Brendan's eye. Gary, good call. O8, O8, 17, 17, 700. This is the good radio football show. Listen anytime, whatever you get, your podcasts. Let's go! Go home! It's time tomorrow night in the show. John Hartson will be here, and also Shelley Kerr will join us. Those two did well last week. We've got them back with us tomorrow evening. Tonight, we have to put up with Mark Whitty Paul Cooney. Peter Grant. Sorry. Oh, no, no, no, no, no. Rob will be back soon, don't worry. Yeah. Now Peter, you're in good form tonight. Lot of Celtic fans saying, "Yep, good to hear you on the programme tonight." And quite a few Rangers fans as well, saying, "No, keep your powder dry." And Philip Clemon, the trust. Derek has been on another Derek, not Derek from Mark Hall with the excellent coffee shop, I do believe. I know there are other ones in the area, but he came in with coffee. He had one day off in the spring. He brought it in and he brought some stuff in a few months ago. But another Derek is saying, "He reckons for Philip Clemon. No matter who you get, you get Pep Guardiola. If they don't have the money, if they don't have the foundations, it ain't going to happen." Yeah, I agree with that to an extent, Paul. The needs to be patience. Rangers have tried to build a sustainable model. They've been doing this years ago, the years behind, you know, but it was always, you know, various chairman, various directors, various managers were looking at short-term fix, short-term fix. And eventually that was going to come back and bite them. And John Bennett's decided to bring that to an end and put a long-term plan. He's got a managing place who believes it. And they've got a director of football and he was copping, who believes it, but privately behind the scenes, they're saying, "We'll need four or five windows to try and get us to where we want to meet them." Whether the patience is there from the Rangers fans for that, remains to be seen. The table looks like this. I know there's only one game so far. Celtic on top three points. Four goals, none against. St. Marin, three points. Three goals, none against. Dundee and Dundee United, both on a point. Hearts and Motherwell and Rangers on one point, along with Ross County, because when Nell Nells and Aberdeen St. Johnson tonight, Hibbs and Kelly in no points. Now, for Kelly, it was a tough start. I heard Derek saying that McInnes saying that, you know, next week it wasn't seen as when the season starts. But it wasn't making any excuses, Peter, about European football, but it's a heavy few days for them. There's no question. You can't make it your shoes, Paul, because that's what successful teams do. You have to go. I mean, it's like Celtic playing the Champions League. You're going to be playing a top quality side too. Sometimes you don't see the ball, sell to become the other Premier League teams in Scotland, really. You know, when they get to the Champions League at times, and you're chasing a ball of health a lot, so you know what it's like to be Celtic, as still expected to come back here in one, where they're travelling and all the games. I mean, no, they have the resources. We understand that, but that's football when you're being successful. And all of mine just want to be successful. All want to be in the top sick. That's why Stevie Robbins has done a brilliant job. His team were playing in Europe, and then won three, nothing against him. So great credit to them. You get them organised, he's changed his group roundabout, he's got a good squadron about them. And you're delighted to see that, because I see a couple of years ago, they were shooting for this head. Mark, if we were in Brazil, we'd be talking about heart ranges at the weekend, but we'd be talking about hips as well. Toughest of starts for them in the lead cup, and now, you know, losing us a heavy defeat at Paisley. I didn't see that coming, Paul. They fit me up in Canada. It's a month for that. When they're back here Thursday night, I gave them in Europe. But for Habsport, once again, it's been a disjointed football club for a number of years. And again, there's too many voices out with the football department. You've now got Bill Foley, you've got Ben Kinsell, the chief who's eight, who's presented over God knows how many managers. You've now got Malkey, they've been doing a different road, bringing in Malkey. And I think Malkey's a right man for that kind of role. But you need to let Malkey go on with it, and you need to give David Gray time to go and get things right. So it's only one game. It's no ideal that a poor result as well in the lead cup a couple of weeks ago. But as a football club, it just seemed too many voices. And for any football club, no matter what level, Paul, to be successful, you need your knee. You need to be all pulling in the same direction, and that doesn't appear to be the case it has at the moment. But you know, next weekend, it's Celtic coming to town. It's going to be some for them, huge game. Yeah, massive game for Hib's. No doubt about that in front of the road. Supporters, but you can have fear for Hib's at the moment. Next two games, Celtic Cup as well. Of course, the Cup. Yeah. You know, it's the next two games you've got. You don't get a breather. That's right. That's one of them, bro, then one. Yeah. That's what you know where it's like. And that's football, unfortunately. You know, you're looking for a couple of results, you think, where's that next one coming from? But we know what football's like. It can kick you in the back side when you think everything's going honky-dory. But Celtic on top for them. Hib's obviously started off disappointingly. Now, I'm sure that'd be a massive blow to them. You know, but it did look when you consider I'd expect him to look stronger. I must admit, I looked at it and I went, "Yeah." I looked for a stronger team there. I'm looking the way he came back to St. Man. Stevie Robinson's about, he knows what he wants, he wants pace, he wants power. You know, he's been about the leagues. He's got a couple of loans in. They're a big, powerful team with good legs within the group. And you can see that set plays. It goes long. He's won the second balls. But when he turns you over, the players can run, the young guys that can run with a deal. Yeah, yeah. You know, it gets you a problem looking behind you. And they've got a good mix. I don't really see that, but it's in the Hib's group. You know, I don't really see that at this moment in time. And that's something they have to eradicate. And it doesn't help when you feel like, say, "Bellfall," you can do it and say, "Well, we're not singing for the same song." That's really poor, isn't it? That core of that family must be, "Come on." But if you're going to say that, that's between each other. Yes. You can't even say that and make that public noise, because anything that goes wrong, that's definitely getting flung up. Like, we are now. Because it looked really poor. You know what you say, that we have said, "Say some things and I've not done it." And you think, "Well, now it doesn't even sound great." Mark, journalist, you know that one's on the kind of warning list, isn't it? You're watching that saying, "Well, that's a story." The fact that Bill Foley came out two weeks ago and said, "They're not listening to me." Yeah, to say that in public. Paul, no, it's not acceptable. And that's why other Cubs will then become wary of these kind of joint ownership by models, sometimes better than WU know. Come on and play Tromso on Tuesday, the eighth. So, a big upon Thursday, the eighth. St. Maren, also the same night. So, Kelly, home to Tromso, St. Maren against Bran. Tomorrow night, of course, the sixth. Dynamo Kiev against Rangers. There's no time at all for them to get going, really, Peter, is there? We're waiting to hear from the manager. They've, I think, landed now in Poland. They're there 24 hours ahead of the game. Obviously, the game is being played there, rather than Kiev. But that's going to be a really tough game. It's kind of played a few games in the league, as well, haven't it? So, they have a lot of game legs. You've had the European games, as well, you know. So, and they're a tough set, I think. They scored nine goals in the last game, was it? The aggregate, was it nine goals? Was it six and three or something like that? So, listen, I played against Kiev many, many years ago. And there were always a top side, we talked quality players. There was no doubt of that. And it'll be a tough ask for Rangers, you know. As we say, hopefully, they pull the rabbit marks, they've got to keep in it, they've got to keep it massive. But the problem you have, you say, you've got to keep in it. And then bring them back to high blocks and get the crew, didn't you? That's not the case. That's not the case. Back to hand. That's what I'm saying. That's the point I'm making. Because I can't come back to high blocks, which people used to say, you're coming back to high. And I know how much we suffered when we were at hand. And I don't mess with them. I mean, European games I'm talking about, even in the league, fixtures was horrible. And it's a factor you had the caller earlier on, Mark. And immediately, the first thing he said for Rangers was, in the ground, that's not Philip Clemon's fault. It's a real debacle. But it's part of the backdrop to the start to the season for Rangers. Yeah, I mean, I think, you know, you listen to a lot of Rangers fans, social media, and they're very disgruntled with the club at the moment. I mean, this time last week, Paul, we were discussing the bullet points in John Bennett's statement. And I think we were supportive of them. I think we were understanding of them, myself, Barry Ferguson and yourself. But you look at the mood in the Rangers cat. I don't think a lot of the Rangers fans weren't impressed with the Germans. And comes, you understand that? That just goes back to the lack of clarity. You're feeling they've been blindsided by the whole stadium thing and then having it go to your hand. And then the quality, a lack of quality in some of the summer signing. So it's disgruntled. And, you know, if you're looking at August, there's a month to get out of that and get the feel-good factor back. My god, what a month to pick. Because it's full of stress. You know what? Come on in the place. You see that one, Mark. You said blindsided. But they checked their manager. No, come out and say that a couple of weeks ago, as if he was blindsided with the project that he was supposed to be given. I didn't think that sounded that great. And I'm a supporter of him in the respect to that. And I think he's obviously staying his job and building something for Rangers. But when he said that it wasn't the sort of project that was sold at the time, that's why probably the supporters are feeling that way. Yeah, I mean, I think he's been through the... I told you something that wasn't true. That's the way it came out in anything's a new contract. I think that's why Rangers fans will be mixed up. Not mixed up. That's a point because they don't know what's the truth and what's the right direction they're going in. And going to Hamden. Let me tell you, it's horrendous for them. I don't wish that I'm anybody. Because that is really, really... I think Hamden's got a poor atmosphere anyway. I must admit. I think Hamden's a poor atmosphere. Compared to Celtic Park. Alright, well, end of the day, Celtic Rangers got failed. Great supporters, whatever, duh, duh, duh. But the atmosphere just wasn't the same. It just, for me, it just doesn't generate. I used to think the Scotland Games, whether I broke for Celtic Park or whatever, were much better. Helped Scotland, whatever. I think that's the way it's built and so far back and the roof is so the way it is. It just brings no atmosphere for me. And I just think that's very, very difficult to play there because it's not your holy grail. It's not your ground. It's not your high blocks when we get there at Rokus. Support is the same as at Celtic Park. I told you there was a better atmosphere at Celtic Park with half a stadium. You did indeed. Rangers fans, not happy. They're a bit concerned about it. We'll keep you up to date. The steal, the first shipment. Do anything, wasn't it? Second week of August. August, and then the next one, the sub... But we'll get an idea of what, like, it's going to be on Saturday afternoon. Paul Rangers, we're on the wheel at Hamden Park. Yep, for sure. Peter, Peter the Great was there. You and also Peter Schmichael yesterday. So Greg has been on a big Celtic fan. Did you catch up with him? He wanted to know. No, I didn't know, but I'll tell you what. His son done very well, you know, in the pre-season game. He never had much to do, yes. No, but his positional play was very good, yes. They were talking about the shot. And people think, the biggest thing for a Celtic goalkeeper is concentration. You've always got to be alert. And they're always, as I kept saying it last year, Johar did make saving, he'd go on a 1-5-0 or whatever. One of his Celtic's best performances was against hearts near the end of the season. It was 1-0, and he made a save for Devlin to keep it at 1-0, right on half-time. And it was probably, for me, that was a turning point. Celtic were excellent that day and never looked back. But excellent, never had game to the end of the season after that. But it came for a big save. And I think Schmichael's going to be like that this season. In the pre-season games, Celtic could have been 2-0 down against Manchester. So they could have been 2-0 down against Chelsea. And then all of a sudden, in wonderful performances. If you go 2-0 down, then there's a different edge comes to it. You know, the other team are playing much better. They're much more confident. So that's why the Celtic goalkeeper is so important. He never had much to do. But his body language could tell you that he's built to play in a ground like Celtic football club. And Mark last year, Jack Butler came to Rangers. And he got a medal, he got a trophy with the League Cup. And Schmichael also, you know, top class keeper. He's had a brilliant career. And he's a bit older than Jack Butler. And so he's won the FA Cup of course. So he's won the Leicester. He's won the Leeds captain, wasn't he? I guess my point is you've got two big high-profile goalkeepers today in Glasgow. For Rangers, will Jack Butler still be there at the end of the month? I would expect so. Paul, you know, again, if you look at Philippe's Clemones, pressers in the past couple of weeks, he made it clear. There was a clear message to the board. I don't want Jack Butler to go. But if we get 30 million for him then, fair enough, I can't get a chunk of that back and go about. But let's be realistic. They ain't getting 30 million for him. So it depends if a club really wants some or the Jack Butler is agitating for a move behind the scenes. And I'll be a number involved if a club hits that number. But I expect Jack Butler to be a Rangers. Put this way, Paul. It'd be a serious, serious blow. And I'd see such a negative message for Rangers to send out if they solve Jack Butler in this one. And there's no indication, of course, that he has anything other than fully committed to enjoy it here last season. But it's tough for Rangers, isn't it? And if an offer came in of 10, 12 million, they would have to consider it. Well, it's a business they've got to. Yeah, it's a biggest heat. In terms of market value, buy an absolute distance. Jack Butler is our biggest asset in terms of market value if somebody had to come in for him. But what could a number that would be, Paul? I don't know. Here's Danny Conne, a Rangers fan. Hi, Danny. Good evening. Hi, good evening, Paul. And thanks for the mention, Paul. Thank you very much. Don't you want to kick? That was my fault. Yeah, but the last thing I spoke to you, Mark, I was very critical of a fault. Come on. And a difficult month ahead, Paul. I'm, you're surprised the club's given him an extension contract considering I know it's maybe a small nut by your essay at the moment. Some fans just aren't buying into them, buying into the manager. Are you a surprise? Maybe come up, talk about, if Celtic's out of sight, that you're a surprise again, when you're a contract with it, aren't we? Well, a couple of weeks ago, Derek, you know, for me, as a journalist, reading between the lines that look to me, that Philip Clorm has tried what an exit. In terms of what he was saying, how he was saying it, some of the messaging that was put out, some of the things he was putting out in the public, they mean, I thought, oh, I, he's trying to, basically, work his ticket. He had deflected and said, I'm ready to go. And if it doesn't go well for me in August, it's not my fault. It's the board's fault. That was a kind of signaling that I was getting. So for him then to be given a new contract, and for him, he signed that on Friday. Yeah, I was taking the back, but then you go back to this time last week. Derek, you look and you listen to John Bennett's statement. You then see what the manager's saying. I think there's been, if you want to call it a new round of talks, where John Bennett said, listen, this is a direction we now have to go in for late. I know we told you this in October, but this is what happened. Bump, bump, bump, bump. This is how you're going to have to work for us as a manager going forward, adding in. Philip come on and say, yes, they've given him a new contract. They've bumped up his wage and they've added on an extra year. And I think, again, it's a bit messaging. And that message for giving him that contract under the circumstances is to likes yourself and every other range of supporter, you're going to have to be patient. Hopefully things come good for Rangers quickly, but I think the chairman and the manager, and you listen to what the manager's been saying as well, it's like preparing the Rangers supporter for a bit of pain in the next few months. Derek. How do I plan to find a washer? Mark, I definitely have to do it because of Celtic, he built them at Celtic Park, and it's five points. You can see him virtually. The link would be finished. And all people will rubbish me off, but Celtic will not got as many points as we did last season. And his savings haven't inspired me. At Celtic, you see the winners taking people on, getting them all out of the box, chipping in the goals. Where was the last time Rangers did that have to be something else? Yeah, good question. Yeah, I don't see a pattern in the play. It's that of it. And I don't know the final thing. I have a problem in my narrative where I was watching the game for. I thought it was a final thing. That's what it was doing. Yeah, I think Keith, I thought it was a final thing. I thought it was a final thing. Right. And I was very surprised it wasn't given. I think it was a final thing. Other than people to be screaming for it. Peter, on Rangers overall, what do you think? Because you said earlier on, they're not going to accept second base. That's okay in July, early August. But when it comes to... For the first two weeks, yeah. And all Rangers don't want to accept second base. But they've been setting base 12 at the last 13 years. Or if you want to bring it up to date, to when Rangers were promoted in 2016. One title at a seven. So they have been setting base. They have been setting base for a long number of years. What's that? I can't keep being second base. I can't keep accepting second base. I know, but what? Yeah, but what's that? I'm doing a Rangers final. What John Bennett is saying now, is for us to become number one. So for us to buck the trend, of only one title in the last seven years, here's how we think we're going to do it. And what he's saying is, it's not going to be a quick fix. It's a long-term process to make sure the next five, 10, 15, 20. Because you can't keep getting soft loans. You can't keep them at some point. What's starting to happen now? It should have happened a couple of years ago, but it's happening now. And I get you don't want to accept that. I was just putting that mark back. But it's still a DMO, isn't it? Four more again pound. Do you think he's a four more again pound player? Do you think that they've got four, two and a half more going to do? He's not ready for firstly matching. They'll set to the half more again pound. They've got all the magic coming a bit alike, but I play it somewhere else. The person's got his football that he could have picked up. Peter, I'm going to go back to that. Yeah. Do you think it was bigger than it was planned? Yeah. But for a few and a half not again pound, the player that you had brought. Just lost you there, but you could have got them for two and a half to three million. You need to take a quick break. This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen live, weeknights from five, on go. Let's go. Derek was on the line. I mean, just find just before the break. And Peter, he was saying, well, do you mind me? What do you think of him? Well, in the cut final, I thought he made the pass in his Scott right, which was a good pass, if you remember, and you miscontrolled it. That's, he's done his job. We're passing the ball in there. Then you've got to look at, well, Scott, right, as I say, I mentioned earlier on. He's got a lot of pace and the respect of that. You need good players running about your pollers to be a good player, as well. Rangers are a weaker group now than they were last season. Looking at it for me, that is. Jay, I know the boys are not up to speed the new season. They're weaker if you talk about the lunchrooms and all that going. And the minds, I think, even alluded to that at the weekend. And he said that they missed a lunchroom or whatever, which is quite ironic that the period of time to try and sign them up. It's really, really difficult. Come on, as I said, they build up to the last Celtic Rangers game before then. The last season, the last league game and the Scottish Cup final, they were asking the question, should they go? And I said, absolutely not. You should see through the summer trying to get a rebuild. And their first Celtic Rangers match in the new season, the pressure would maybe start if Celtic won that. And so that started September. So that's what I've been saying to me about pressure. No, I think that's changed completely regarding the fight. He's got to go at your handling. The fact that he's not an eyebrow, all that scenario. You know, try and get players in at lastmoment.com. What players can you bring in? You know, the quality. What can you afford? All these things have completely changed for the manager. So I think maybe the new contracts come in the fall, they've finally came maybe around at the silvency lesson. It's going to take us a few years. The fans may be not like it out with. It's going to take us a few years. And we feel at Clermontz got the qualities to build this club for the bottom up. You can't put a roof on without the foundation. So there's absolutely a lot of money to do that, especially in Scottish terms with what they spend. And I think that's where the problem lies. But maybe the Rangers are saying, listen, the fans don't like it. Of course, you can't even be second here. You can't even lose a game here if you're Celtic or Rangers. But unfortunately, I was there for six years with Celtic. I know what it was like when Rangers were building and so much stronger. The stadium was all built. We never had a stadium. All these things going at hand, didn't you play? Done it all. Seen the picture. It was part of the picture. And it was torturous. But then we went in the cup final against the other. Which was a poor game. And that was probably the start of coming back again. But it tamed that torture. And it was torture. It was a torture. Yeah. Absolutely. And it tamed that. And it's no nice. And we lost it. We did a few managers lost our jobs and what have uncaped changing. Lots of players change over. And it's really difficult. But you see we're Celtic here now. And it was probably done. The great Tommy Buns are getting that frustrating. You know, to try and get it back on the road again. Pierre van Huydonck. Was there a call? Getting that goal? Seems a while ago. Social media. You don't get time though, Mark. We've got a manager gone already. Ian Murray at the Ray Throwers. And we're only 90 minutes into the league season. It's unforgiving. Looking for Celtic. Top of the table after the weekend. And St. Marin right in behind him. Brendan Rogers spoke about his team. The continuous improvement that he likes to see in football. Well, continual development is something that should be in your life. Always, anyway. And these are young guys. You know, I'm 51. And I think from a professional and personal level, I will always look to grow and develop. And I try to share that with the players. So I think when you've got a lot of young players. Then, of course, the nature is to go on and improve. But even with the senior players, there's always areas of which you can improve on. But I see that within the group. They're very good in that aspect. They want you to learn very keen. So it's such a long way to go. Mark, long way to go. But a very good start for Brendan Rogers, Celtic. Yeah, it was a terrific start. Paul, he played very, very well. You know, 2-1-4 now. And up in the day of the season, the great day for the fans. It's seen the likes of Nicholas Kuhn. Really looking apart. Seen Kyogo. Looking terrific. I also thought Colin McGregor. Seamless and everything that he did. And we should haven't run about him. Take Casper Smico. Get the clean sheet. James Forris taking off again from where he left off last season. The fantastic role that he played. So all in all, a brilliant 90 minutes. Great afternoon for Salty. And they've sent out a hell of a message for the rest of Scottish football in the opening day this season. Bitter back to that in a moment or two. We should say in the championship, it kicked off way back in Friday night. Falkert beating Queen's Park 2-1. What an introduction to the championship for them. Absolutely. Listen, Falkert got the championship side. They've got the support. They've got the base there. They've got a very good match on John Magdalene. You know, and they've got good players for that level. It's absolutely no doubt. And it's probably the most open championship you've had. Because a few things have been done. Living so hard, not going to spend massive money at any shape or form. So you think it's the most open championship? A good win for Livy Tournell against Unfirmalin. Aginated winning Tournell Akies. We know Akies have had problems with the wages that weren't paid last week. Haven't heard the update today. And Erdri won. Rethrow was an all-great win for them. But Ian Murray. It's cost him his job, but not just that. He's starting the league cup. So, Rangers tomorrow night. Final thoughts then, Peter. We know it's going to be really tough. I take it. They'll go. You try and down the hatches, if you can. And come away with a draw, if possible. Yeah, I think a bit tough night for them, Paul. I think that the lack of experience and the lack of quality, really. And it's not been disrespectful. Because he ever, as I say, they're mid-term of playing. They've played, they've got good players. And I just think it's a tough night for you. If Rangers get away with Tournell, I think that'll be a big result for them. If they lose the game, Tournell, I think they're still in the tie then. But I think they'll do well to keep it at Tournell. Mark? Yeah, I think it'll be a long, painful night for Rangers tomorrow, Paul. I can have fear for them based on their performance on Saturday to go against Inamokiev. Even though it's in a neutral venue in Poland, yeah. I tend to agree with Peter, two goals, one goal. But he's been batting down the hatches. It's not a way Felique come on in place. It's not, it's not their style. They'll tell them they'll chambé and expand if in trying not to go and get a goal. And that's fair enough. But defensively, when you look at Rangers, I think they're a long way off in any kind of form a clean sheet tomorrow night. Well, the biggest thing Paul told about Jack Butler. I said, "One game you're going to need them." It's probably tomorrow evening to bring in a big performance, which he did a lot in Europe last year. You know, so you've got to say that. If he's got to bring a big performance, that's when you need our goal keeper to be his best because it's going to be a tough night for them. And Mark, we kicked off at five. You heard the news that Brighton are in talks with Celtic for Matt O'Reilly. Yeah. Looks as though he will go, but maybe not there. Yeah, I mean, they need to agree a number. So they're getting close to agree a number that will trigger Celtic, given Matt O'Reilly for a mission. But it looks like it's hot and not Paul. You know, you're there. I think you'll see a bit more interest from a lot of teams with more serious in terms of the kind of offers that they're making to Celtic. They'll need to go over the 20 million pound mark. And then it's down to Matt O'Reilly, where they want to go. But for me now, it's pointing towards 75% Matt O'Reilly away. And if you're Brendan Rogers, you want that decision made quickly because he'll then need to go and replace him up his funds to maybe spend in other areas of the pit. So my gut at the moment, Matt O'Reilly will be away, and he'll be away in the next seven days. Peter, please stay with me your message, wouldn't I? I hope he's wrong. I hope he's wrong. You want to always keep your best players, but unfortunately, you get the money. You've got to take it in the respect to that. Guys, thank you so much. Thanks, Paul. Thanks, everyone, for listening tonight. It'll be there in the downloads if you want to hear any part of the program. We're back tomorrow night. Shelley Kerr will be here, along with John Hartson. Thanks so much. Zoe Kelly is up next after the news. This is the Go Radio Football Show. Listen live weeknights from five on go let's go
