Welcome to the One Life podcast with Becca White. I am your host and this is episode 26, The Highlight Reel. As I've mentioned, this past weekend, I played in a basketball tournament in Provo, Utah. This particular tournament is a lot of fun because it's more like a reunion for all of us to gather together and play. I love it. This year, I left with a dislocated finger and a second place water bottle that I absolutely love. My cute youngest daughter came to a couple of my basketball games and unbeknownst to me, she was recording clips throughout the games. Later that night, she showed me all of the clips that she had recorded and for sure, there were some blooper moments. But she got all of the highlights, the defensive stops, the rebounds and the shots made. And when I did something extra good, she included a, "Yeah, Mom!" It was pretty cute. Now, I'm well past my glory days, but with these clips, I look like an all star. So for fun, we put them all into a highlight reel. Sometimes it's fun to feel like an all star. Actually, it's always fun to feel like an all star. How would it be to live in all star mode all day every day? Sometimes it is difficult to see ourselves clearly and it is very helpful to have an outsider who thinks we are amazing. Give us all the all star feedback. However, we don't always have an 11-year-old number one fan following us around to capture our greatness. Instead, we can create a few highlight reels of our own. David Goggins, the retired Navy SEAL turned ultramarathon runner and extraordinary athlete. He calls it the cookie jar method, which is storing up a reservoir of sweet memories. He says, quote, "Dip into the cookie jar of past victories. Keep note of the times that you've succeeded. Remember them as inspiration for how you will succeed again," end quote. The highlight reel, the cookie jar method, whatever it is, it is important for us to reflect on our successes, especially as we are going through uncertain times. Remembering our wins can help us stay motivated and build momentum towards our goals. And as David Goggins says, also be inspiration for how we will succeed again. So today's invitation is this, reflect on and record your favorite all-star moments in the various areas of your life. Huge wins, medium wins, and small wins. If we take the time to do the exercise patterns of our strengths that we use to overcome adversity will emerge. As we relive these experiences, we will be empowered to continue forward on our path of progression. We only get one life, let's make it our best.
