You practically missed everything as it pertains to the Brandon Iyuk situation, which is practically bubbling over right now. So that's why we here at Six Rings and Football Things wanna bring you a little bit of an Iyuk ketchup, a little Iyuk explainer. How do we get here? What's gone down? What's true and what's false? And what do we think happens next? All right, so Andy Hart's at practice. He's on the radio this afternoon with the latest. Your old pal Nick Fitzy Stevens, right here with you. Let's get to it. So we know Brandon Iyuk, very talented wide receiver for the San Francisco 49ers coming off a career year last year. Many call him an elite wide receiver, one, in ascension. He's looking for a big fat new deal. The NFC champion San Francisco 49ers, a bit cap strung right now. A lot of wallets to fill, a lot of mouths to feed, going forward, of course they're paying Debo, they're paying kiddo, they got McCaffrey. Lord knows how much they're gonna have to pay Brock Purdy considering the amount of money that guys like Jordan Love and Tuha have gotten recently. Anyway, looks like Iyuk is not gonna get what he wants. And this, this isn't even considering how much Trent Williams wants it and how much he's gonna get as well. Seems like they have now deemed him potentially expendable. So they put him out there for a trade. Now the New England Patriots who have been wide receiver one desperate for about a half decade now, the Pats inquired all the way back before the 2024 NFL Draft. Elliot Wolf as we call him the Wolf of Ball Street been doing his due diligence, continually trying to weaponize the offense. They use a number of draft picks on wide receivers signed KJ Osborne, don't go far enough for Calvin Ridley. It appears as though they're improving the wide receiver room, but they yet still do not have, they lack that true wide receiver number one. Now many consider Brandon Iyuk the better of the two wide receivers to come out of Arizona State in the last half decade. I do not feel like putting a dollar in the Nikhil Harry Jar, but now I just said his name. He's basically the Voldemort of Patriots draft picks in the last 10 years or so. Iyuk has been an absolute stud. Now you may argue that, well, Brandon Iyuk benefits from having guys like George Kittle and Christian McCaffrey and Deebo Samuel out there. Can he be a true wide receiver one? Most in the know believe that yes, Brandon Iyuk is not just somebody who benefits from having a lot of talented players around him or just having somebody like Kyle Shanahan scheming and drawing up the plays that this guy is a bonafide receiver number one who deserves to be paid as, paid as such or in the ballpark of your top 10 wide receivers and will thrive if given the opportunity. So it looked as though the 49ers were not gonna trade him and that things had reached a stalemate, but between he and the team, he has yet to practice, continues walking around training camp without pads. If you think the Judon situation is awkward then you should be tuned into what's been going on with Iyuk 'cause at least Judon shows up a little bit and sometimes he brings out Jalani Tivai to be his side and/or hype man or interpreter. So Iyuk is four years into his, actually he's the first round pick, excuse me. So he's four years into his career. This would be his fifth year. Do roughly 14 and a half million dollars. He's not happy about that. He wants at least double that or so where to understand. So we thought everything was done. We thought everything was where it was and he was either gonna sit it out or find a way to maybe just sit out until the season with the 49ers and then on Monday, we start getting some leaks, some information, somebody that I've been enjoying following for some time now who calls himself the People's Insider, a guy by the name of a pretty Ricky, tweets out Monday late afternoon that according to his source, he says he is back against the wall. My back is against the wall, but Brandon Iyuk will be a Pittsburgh stealer. I'm going out on top. Now the Patriots again have been interested. They called, they found out that they couldn't get Iyuk way back before the draft. They, according to Joseon Anderson, they reached out a few weeks ago to see if he was available. The answer was still no. They were gonna keep him and it makes sense. 49ers NFC champions, 49ers stacked, locked rock, ready roster to go back to the Super Bowl, try to actually finish the job this year. So I think their plan was to try to get this final year out of Iyuk and then possibly let him walk, but people are calling with big offers because there are other teams that could use a wide receiver one, be it for a playoff push for some of the teams that are interested in confirm now for the New England Patriots who could use the Steph Diggs to Josh Allen, just like they did in Buffalo a couple of years ago when he wanted out, he wanted to be a number one receiver that worked out for him, that worked out obviously for the development of Josh Allen. Hence why there's so much interest for New England because maybe Brandon Iyuk coming to town would give Drake May his Steph Diggs, if you will. There's no denying that he would be a massive asset and a humongous upgrade on the team. So we hear that from Pretty Ricky Monday night that he's going to be a Pittsburgh stealer. Then we hear all the reports coming from the NFL network afterwards. Iyuk more likely to be traded than sign extension with the 49ers, but no trade was in place. That was around supper time. Okay, so that's where we thought it was. We thought we had maybe one insider, but that was the one, the people's insider if you will, but nothing else confirmed from your blue check markers, from your shifters, from your rap sheets, the Palisero's, the Palmers, et cetera. And then you probably went to bed or you probably carried about your business and whatever else. And then about 10.30 Monday night from NBCS 49ers, the NBC Sports Boston of San Francisco. Matt Mayoko from NBCS, I guess there's your Phil Perry of the West Coast, he tweets out breaking news, 49ers now have the framework of a Brandon Iyuk trade with both the Browns and the Patriots, a source has told Matt Mayoko of NBC Sports, NBC Sports, Bay West, NBC Sports, whatever. Now it's up to Iyuk to decide if you will accept either team's contract terms. Okay, so now somebody with a reputable network has put it out there. All of a sudden, now basically it's, so the 49ers have contacted both of those teams and said, all right, that's it. We can't get a deal done with this guy. What are you willing to offer for him? Okay, so the Browns and the Patriots have locked in trade offers with the 49ers. Word also was the commanders were interested but then they decided to bow out and Pittsburgh was not able to get a deal done. I guess they were, I don't know if they were hemming and hong, if they were stalling, if they had a good offer and maybe that's where Iyuk wants to go. And San Francisco's looking for them to sweeten the deal just a little bit more. We'll get back to that in a second. So let's wonder, let's sort of speculate what we've also heard could be the parameters of this deal for Iyuk if he in fact gets traded to the Patriots. So Matt Mayoka has also said that the New England Patriots would be a team that would pay him a lot of money, a lot of money, that if Brandon Iyuk is definitely interested in this just for money alone, the Patriots would be a perfectly good option. Would be possibly the option because the Browns, maybe they can offer money now. I don't know how they're gonna do their fuzzy cap math because they're about 80 something million dollars over the cap in 2025. They still have the cloud of the Deshawn Watson contract and how that is hamstrung them as well to contend with. That's a whole mess unto itself. But they're in it apparently. So the rumor was that it was Kendrick Bourne and a second round draft pick and possibly of another future lower round draft pick in exchange for Iyuk who then would agree to terms with the Patriots probably on something lucrative in the four years, $30 million average annual value contract, putting him up there in the upper, upper tier of well compensated wide receiver ones in the NFL. That would then give you a room of Iyuk and Polk and Pop Douglas and J. Von Baker, maybe K.J. Osborne, Tyquan Thornton, K. Sean Butte, whoever else makes it. Jalen Rager, who's had an awesome camp. This is dynamic spectacular news. If you are dying for the Patriots to get a wide receiver one. Now for the Browns, apparently their deal would involve a Mari Cooper in a draft pick and then they would already have a deal in place as well. The 49ers have said they are comfortable with both deals. They like the compensation in return. They get a pro veteran wide receiver, one in the case of Kendrick Bourne, potentially now coming back from his ACL surgery on a three year, $19.5 million deal that is played. That's where he came from before he joined the Patriots so they could plug him right in, probably would be ready to go for a spectacular season. Things would be potentially awkward because week four of course, it's Patriots at 49ers. I would also probably put some money down that Bourne scores in that game, but no hard feelings. So 49ers comfortable with both offers from the Browns and the Patriots. Now the ball basically, as he's wanted for some time, is in Brandon Ayyuk's court. Does he want to go to Cleveland for the amount of money that they've paid? Does he want to go to the Patriots for the amount of money that they're willing to pay? I mean, this is fascinating, how this just sort of spiraled and evolved so quickly. Now this morning, Gerard Mayo spoke just a few moments ago at the start of Patriots practice. His full comments were, one thing I did learn from Bill, I don't talk about players on other teams with that being said, we're always looking to improve our team. So there you go, great. So that's saying a lot without saying anything at all. He also said that he did speak with Kendrick Bourne before delivering his opening presser this morning to address the rumors. Now he didn't say that he dispelled them. In order to say that he confirmed them, he just said that he spoke with Kendrick Bourne this morning as well. So, I mean, this is wild, this is bananas. I just want to ask and just sort of put out there. You know, again, no denying Brandon Ayyuk who many say is an elite wide receiver, many believe still has yet to reach the top of his talents in the NFL. That's awesome, yes. So he would be an instant upgrade for the Patriots. I get it, yes, he would do nothing, but give a possible certified number one target, take pressure off Polk and Baker, the rookies who have looked terrific, this training camp as well, be a stud. You know, he's coming off of the last couple of seasons in San Francisco in 2022. 78 catches, 1,015 yards, 13 yards per catch, eight tuddies. 2023, this is when he really showcased that he's the real deal. Few less catches, 75 catches, 1342 yards, 18 yard average, seven touchdowns as well. No denying, this guy, he's it, he's got the him factor. Brandon Ayyuk is just waiting for his opportunity to be a true clear cut number one and get paid as much. I guess basically now what we're waiting on is does Brandon Ayyuk believe that the Cleveland Browns are his best option, get paid probably a good amount of money there, go live in Cleveland, play with Watson on a team that has made the playoffs to in the last four years. Or does he want to come to New England where obviously there's a lot of uncertainty as to who's going to be the quarterback, how the new offense with Alex Van Pelt is going to work out, what the wide receiver situation is going to look like. Look, expectations for the Patriots probably won't change a ton if Ayyuk arrives, you know, and then of course you'll lose born or who knows if Judon could be involved in the trade as well. I do think however though, circling back to Judon real quick, I do believe one of the reasons why the Patriots have recently been hesitant to give Judon that bag or the money that he wants or he sees is available to him beyond the precedent that it could set with Wolf or Robert Kraft who may want to see how the bias up holds up or may feel like it's not good business to give someone who's coming off that kind of surgery when the defense performed pretty well. Without him last year, I do believe there's a chance that they are not giving him that money yet because they want to see if it is available to use on a Brandon Ayyuk contract if they're able to successfully trade for him. So does he want to come to New England? Probably get paid the most of any of the offers that he could be agreed upon by the 49ers right now or are the leaks through NBC Sports Bay area and Matt Mayoko and now subsequently through everybody else in New England. Are all of these, do we think that those leaks are out there from the Niners or Ayyuk's team, probably not just from Brandon Ayyuk's team and representatives, but do we think they're out there? I'm wondering, are they out there because the 49ers are trying to get Pittsburgh Steelers where Ayyuk may want to end up and like we mentioned earlier, some of the people's inside or some others have speculated he could have landed at is because they want the Steelers to sweeten their offer and go see that. Hey, look, New England's got a trade deal we've agreed to and Cleveland's got a deal that we've agreed to and we're waiting for Brandon to say yes on either of those. So before he says yes to the dress or yes to the new address, you guys may want to try to get your act together and let us know. I don't know exactly who the Steelers would be trading. Maybe they just offer a first overall pick period, pair him with pickings, put him on that team with Freermouth and now all of a sudden Russ can really get cooking this year on an offense that would be super dynamic in Pittsburgh. And then what an absolute anchor man rumble it would be in the AFC North, which also was, you know, the most entertaining division in football last year with three teams making it to the playoffs. Hell, they may even try to have four teams to make the playoffs at this point if you have a guy like Ayyuk go to Pittsburgh. So we don't know. Right now, as of recording 11 a.m. on Tuesday, August 6th, the 49ers have said that they have agreed to terms with the Patriots. They have agreed to terms with the Browns. We're not sure if the Steelers are still in it. If they're involved, they're not, but we have two teams that agreed to. And now it's in Ayyuk's court. It's up to Brandon Ayyuk. If he wants to take either of those deals, sign on the line that is dotted and then either say like, I am a Cleveland Brown or, you know, forever, forever New England. I am a Patriot. You know, I am Brandon Ayyuk and I am a Patriot. Personally, would it be great to add him? Sure. Do I want to spend the draft capital on a team that is lacking in blue chip talent, which obviously Ayyuk would be, but, you know, they need to draft so many other positions. There's so many other concerns. I personally have like offensive line. I wish the situation were the Patriots trying to swing a trade for, you know, a left tackle in bloom that they could pay $25 million to because I think that's the biggest need. Chucks a core for is not at practice for the third straight day for the Patriots. You've been trotting out Vadarian low and Kait rookie, Kaiton Wallace. Left tackle is a mess. The tackle situation on the Patriots is a mess. You know, what are they chocking up the development of Drake May these days or the trouble that he had in camp to playing with the number twos and that offensive line pay has been sloppy. So that's forced a lot of bad throws causing him read issues and all the things that have made people say like, oh, he doesn't look comfortable out there. Drake May is now Drake May be. Is this guy a bust? God, the May overreactions are absurd. Okay. And then some people may say, great, bring in Ayuk. And then all of a sudden Drake May is going to look like Josh Allen 2.0. It'll take more time than that. They have many more needs than that. Yes, he is a luxury they could add. I don't think it's the top priority. I like to tweet that I read earlier from Matt Chatham who said about the situation as well. And as it loads, I quote, I like Patriots wide receiver room as it is right now. Editor on those so do I. Particularly with born presumably full go for the season. There's a lot of young talent, already a nice mix of types, not the time to give away valuable assets and pay a prime second contract. If they lose out on a trade proposal, they still win in my opinion. Now, at least you know, you see the court of public opinion will say, hey, at least the Patriots tried really, really, really, really hard to get Brandon Ayuk and it just didn't work out again like Ridley. I think the Patriots may ultimately have dodged a proverbial contract bullet with that one as well. I wish they were going after a tackle. I wish they were swinging a trade to fortify the offensive line, but looks like they're trying real hard to get a wide receiver one for Drake May, bolster the wide receiver room. I don't know, we'll see. Anyway, there's your Ayuk explainer. There's the Ayuk ketchup. Everything we've heard from everyone involved in the scenario once again, it all blew up late Monday night as well.
