This is Jeffrey Zimmerman joining you once again, standing in for Pastor Sean Pinder. And as usual, I'm very honored and very privileged to be able to do that. My wife, Melanie and I serve alongside Pastor Sean and Pastor Amy. We love serving alongside of them. They're very genuine people of God. They love God with all their hearts. They love each other with all their hearts, love their family, love us in the ministry and they love all of you. It's a wonderful people of God. And we're just so very excited to be in the move of God and be part of what he's doing, amen. And so it's my honor and privilege to be in the front of you in his place today, Pastor Sean's place. So we're continuing in our series, You Are Never Alone. That's an encouraging word, isn't it? You are never alone. And the title of today's message is when you think you're the only one. 'Cause sometimes it's easy for us to think that, amen, that we are the only one. We're the only one going through certain things. You know, we look around us and we see, it looks like everybody else is getting along fine and we're the only one suffering. But that's not the case and we wanna look at that today. But before we do, let's say a word of prayer. Father God, in the name of Jesus, we join our faith with all of your wonderful people today. God, I thank you for every single person on this broadcast. Lord, as I speak the word of God, please anoint these lips of clay, let them hear the words of Jesus and not my words. Lord, I pray that you would strengthen each person that you would lift them up, Lord God, that you would encourage them in the name of Jesus, that you would build their faith. Lord God, where faith is weak today. (speaking in foreign language) (speaking in foreign language) It is not by might, it is not by power, it is by my spirit, sayeth the Lord. And Lord, give us the victory today. We pray the name of Jesus. Amen and amen. So the title of today's message again, when you think you're the only one. And we're gonna look at first Kings chapter 19, starting with verse one, we're looking in the life of Elijah the prophet. Now to give you a little background to this story, this is after Elijah had been up on Mount Carmel with the prophets of Baal. And remember they had built an altar and put a sacrifice on the altar. And the prophets of Baal cried out and they did their rituals and they cut themselves, they did all the things that they were supposed to do. Of course, Baal did not answer 'cause Elijah had told them let the God that answers by fire, let him be God. And so they were trying to call fire down on this altar and the prophets of Baal failed miserably to do that because Baal wasn't real. Amen, he wasn't a real God. He was just something that somebody made up. And then Elijah built the altar back up, put the sacrifice back on it, fixed it back up. And then he had them douse it with water. And not only that, he built a ditch around it and filled that with water too. So by the time he was done, this thing was drenched. I mean, this was soaked. And how many of you know water don't light? Amen, water puts fire out. Amen, so he was making it hard for God is what he was doing, amen. And so then he prayed to God and what happened. God rained fire down from heaven, consumed the sacrifice and burned up all the water while he was at it, amen. Now a God that could do that, that ain't nothing short of a miracle y'all, for the water to burn up. That only can be a miracle from heaven, you know? And so the water was consumed. And so then of course, you know, many people who used to be prophets of Baal got on their faces and said, "The Lord, He is God." The Lord, He is God. And then of course Elijah separated the people who wanted to serve God from the people who still wanted to serve Baal and He had the prophets of Baal killed, amen? And this was a mighty victory for God. Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done and with all how he had slain all the prophets with the sword. Then Jezebel said a message on July just saying, "So let the gods do to me and more also, "if I may make not your life as the life "of one of them by tomorrow about this time." So here's Jezebel coming out, threatening the man of God, threatening to kill him just like he had killed all the prophets of Baal. And when he saw that, when Elijah saw that, he arose and went for his life, he ran. And he came to Beersheba, which belonged to Judah, and he left his servant there. The servant couldn't go where Elijah had to go at this point, but he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness. He was in the desert, and he came and sat down under a juniper tree, and he requested for himself that he might die and said, "It is enough now, O Lord, "take away my life, for I am not better than my fathers." So at this point, Elijah had given up. Now what's amazing to me is after he gained such a powerful victory on Mount Carmel, here he is after the threatening word came from Jezebel, he's running for his life. What was it that shook him up like that? You see, Jezebel had a spirit behind her. Amen, and this was a spirit of intimidation. This was a spirit of discouragement. And Elijah was afraid, and he ran out the desert, and he told the Lord, "I'm ready to die." Well, obviously he wasn't ready to die, or he wouldn't be running. Amen, 'cause Jezebel had already threatened him with his life, and he went running into the desert, so he's not really ready to die, but he's just discouraged, you know? And all of us reached this place. I don't care how much faith you've got in God. I don't care how long you've been serving God, or how strong a man or woman of God you are. There are gonna come times in your life when you're gonna feel discouraged. Amen, and as he lay and slept under a juniper tree, behold, then an angel touched him. Kind of the same sort of situation we just talked about with Peter, isn't it? The angel had to wake him up. Interesting, and said to him, "Arise and eat." And Elijah looked and behold, there was a cake baking on the coals and the crews of water at his head, and he did eat and drink, and he laid him down again. Okay, so he ate the food that the angel, I mean, this guy, this guy was something else. You know, you and I would've been freaked out that there's an angel standing in front of us, amen? But this man was so, he had seen God do so many miracles. He didn't even phase him. "Oh, okay, you made me a cake, some water of thanks." Appreciate it, you know, and he ate and drank, laid back down and went back to sleep. Amen, this was a little big deal to him. And so, the angel of the Lord came again the second time it touched him, and said, "Arise and eat," because the journey is too great for you. The journey ahead of you is too great for you. How many of you know that sometimes God will come, and he'll say, "Look, the journey's too great for you. "You need strength, I'm here to strengthen you. "I'm here to nourish you, I'm here to provide for you. "I'm here to take care of you." Amen, you know, even when we give up sometimes, even when we just get discouraged, and we just kind of throw our hands up and give up, God is still there, amen? Isn't that wonderful that he doesn't give up on us, even when we give up on ourselves sometimes? So he arose and did eat and drink, and when in the strength of that meat, 40 days and 40 nights unto horrib, the mount of God. Now, this is very interesting to me, that he walked 40 days and 40 nights. This is no short trip. This is a long journey that he took, and I'm gonna tell you why that's so interesting to me here in just a minute. But for right now, he will go 40 days and 40 nights unto horrib, the mount of God, and he came dither unto a cave, and he lodged there. So he found a cave in the mountain, and he went in there and stopped walking. And behold, the word of the Lord came to him, and he said unto him, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" And he said, "I have been very jealous "for the Lord God of hosts, "for the children of Israel have forsaken your covenant, "thrown down your altars, and slain your prophets "with the sword, and I, even I, only am left." And then how you feel sometimes, you're the only one, you're the only one left, and they seek my life to take it away, and God said to him, "Go forth and stand upon the mount before the Lord." And behold, the Lord passed by. So his instructions were, "Go forth and stand "on the mountain before God." Okay, so Elijah did. And as the Lord passed by, there was a great and strong wind that rent the mountains, tore the mountains, and broken pieces, the rocks, before the Lord. But the Lord was not in the wind. And after the wind and earthquake, but the Lord was not in the earthquake. And after the earthquake of fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. Now, Elijah is seeing all these things. This wind is busting the mountain up. This is no small wind. This is a huge deal. Amen? He sees the earthquake. He sees the fire. But notice, Elijah doesn't move. Boy, I wish some of us could be like Elijah in this case. You know, sometimes we go, and we're discouraged. We need a word from God, amen? And sometimes we get into prayer, and we get to praying. And then the first thing that happens, we jump up and we say, "Aha, I got it." Instead of waiting for God to give us the actual word from heaven. Sometimes we have a dream. I've known people that did this. You know, they know what God is telling them. But they have this dream and they say, "Oh, well, I got had a dream. I'm gonna follow what the dream says." Even if the dream is telling them to do something that is contrary to the will of God. You see, if you have, you know, does God speak to us through dreams? Yes, He does. Does God speak to us through people that prophesy over us? Yes, He does. But guess what? You have to compare that dream, or that prophesy with the word of God. And if it doesn't line up with the word, that dream's gotta go. That prophesy's gotta go. The Apostle Paul said, "Even if I hear a word, even if an angel stands in front of me and tells me a gospel different than the one I'm preaching, then let him be accursed." Amen? Too many people are quick to jump up when they get a dream or a prophesy. 'Cause, you know, the devil sends dreams and prophecies too. You ever heard of false prophets? Amen? Some people mess themselves up because they jump up and they think God talked to them. But if they were to take time and compare what they think God told them with the word of God, which is the ultimate authority, they would have realized, no, no, no. God did not say this to me, you see? But Elijah didn't move. Elijah didn't budge. He wasn't moved by the wind. He wasn't moved by the earthquake. It wasn't moved by the fire. Why? 'Cause God was not in them. Says, "After the fire, a still small voice." And it was so when Elijah heard the still small voice, he wrapped his face in his mantle and went out and stood in the entering in of the cave. See, Elijah realized now this is the word of God. This is the voice of God. 'Cause he heard God talk before. He recognized the voice of God. So when he saw all these other things happen and he wasn't moved, amen? Be careful of what you listen to. Be careful of who you start listening to. Be careful of what you start opening yourself up to. Amen? And the whole, there came a voice unto him, and the Lord said, "What are you doing here, Elijah?" And he said, "I have been very jealous "for the Lord God of hosts "because the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, "thrown down thine altars and slain thy prophets "with the sword, and I, even I, only am left, "and they seek my life to take it away." And the Lord said unto him, "Go return on your way to the wilderness of Damascus, "and when you come, anoint Haziel to be king over Syria. "And Jehu, the son of Dimshai, "shout the anoint to be king over Israel, "and Elisha, the son of Shafat of Ebul Mihola, "shout thou anoint to be prophet in thy room. "And it shall come to pass that him "that escapes the word of Haziel, "shout Jehu'slai, and him that escapes "from the sword of Jehu, shall Elisha'slai. "Yet I have left me 7,000 in Israel, "all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, "and every mouth which has not kissed him. "God was telling Elijah, I've got a remnant, Elijah. "You are not the only one. "He gave him an encouraging word. "He told him to go anoint these different people "that were going to take care of the problem." Amen? And he said, I'm sending Elisha to be prophet in your room. Someone's gonna take up after you. Someone that you can pour into and mentor that will take the burden from you. Hallelujah, he was sending him help, in other words. Now here's the part that's so interesting to me. Why did God require Elijah to travel all the way from the wilderness, 40 days and 40 nights to this mountain to hear that word? Couldn't God just as easily have spoken to Elijah in the wilderness? He could have, but he didn't. Why? I don't know, sometimes location matters. For some reason, God wanted Elijah to make that journey to that mountain, 40 days and 40 nights to hear the word that Elijah so desperately needed. God made him do something to get it. Maybe God wants you to change physical locations. You know, we've got three nights of miracles coming up in August, you know, and we've been encouraging people to get out and be at that meeting. And maybe you've been wondering, well, why can't God just touch me where I am? I don't know, but he didn't give a lie to the word in the wilderness. He made him travel 40 days and 40 nights to the mountain. The book of 1 Peter chapter five, verse nine, talk about the devil that says resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions, the same things you're going through, the same problems are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world. You're not by yourself. You're not the only one. Every single person that believes in Jesus is going through what you're going through. But I have great news for you. The Bible says many are the afflictions of the righteous, but the Lord delivers him out of them all. And if you've never given your heart to Jesus today, then just say this simple prayer with me right now. Just say, Father God, I believe that Jesus Christ is your son, that he died on the cross for my sins. They placed him in a borrowed tomb, and three days later, he rose from the dead. And one day very soon, he is coming again. Jesus, I make you my Lord and Savior. I turn my back on the world, the flesh and the devil. Please forgive me of my sins and receive me as your child. In Jesus' mighty name we pray, amen and amen. If you said that prayer today, amen, with all your heart, we want to welcome you into the family of God, Hallelujah. And we, if you were blessed by the message today or if you just gave your heart to Jesus, type below the video and let us know of what God has done for you today.
