Mike Moore Media, the first place to hear Rockingham County News and information. News is sponsored by Lane's Family Pharmacy and Home Health Care. It was standing room only at last night's Stonewall Town Council meeting, everyone supporting the police department. There's been talk of disbanding it and using the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office to cover the town. More than 30 residents spoke. Here's a summary of remarks. Too many rumors and allegations. Council has its own agenda. It doesn't represent what's best for the town. We deserve better. Without a police department, there'll be an increase in drugs and the crime rate. Thirty new houses are going to be built and will need police protection. Why would anyone move to a town without a police department? Our children need to be protected. Safety and security. A sense of community. While business owners spoke, a man preparing to open a new business, said the police department was one of the reasons he decided to come to Stonewall. A woman who moved here 10 years ago said she and her family have a stake in the community and how it's protected is very important. A number of people talked about former chief Franklin Moore, one calling him the most reliable person she'd ever met. He was always the first to arrive in emergencies. There were personal stories about how much he always cared about the town and its people. Moore recently resigned after 16 years. One resident told council, "If treated him like dirt, a number of times, people said bring more back." Also speaking, a former EMS worker, 911 operator, fire department volunteers, school teachers, and several current police officers. One of the big concerns if the sheriff's office takes the place of the police department was response time, around two to three minutes for officers versus 15 to 30 minutes for deputies. After everyone had spoken and there were comments from the mayor and board members, council agreed to keep the police department. Recruiting for a new chief began in April. There have been 75 applicants, 27 from North Carolina, with a short list of eight in-state applicants. Stonevault currently has two full-time officers and three part-time. It's budgeted for a police chief for full-time and three part-time. Kevin and Keith Lane have been a vital part of our community since 2001. Today, we're highlighting the bravery of our military heroes and the guiding lights of our coast. Today is a special day as we honor and acknowledge the Purple Heart. The Purple Heart is one of the oldest military honors still given out today. Established by George Washington in 1782, it was initially called the Badge of Military Merit. Fast forward to 1932, and it was revived as the Purple Heart to honor those wounded or killed in battle. On Purple Heart Day, we pay tribute to these brave individuals and their extraordinary sacrifices for our country. I think it's a good day to go out and go to those places, parks, and markers that remember those that have received the Purple Heart. I absolutely love this day because it is a special thank you for everyone who has sacrificed and I salute you, we salute you, and we appreciate you. Absolutely. It's also National White House Day. White houses have been guiding sailors to safety for centuries. Imagine the oldest existing lighthouse, a tower of Hercules in Spain, standing strong since the second century A.D. In the U.S., the Boston Light was the first lighthouse, built in 1716, and still shining bright today. These beacons of light symbolize safety and perseverance, reminding us of the importance of guidance in our lives. So take a moment to appreciate these architectural marvels that have saved countless lives throughout history. Still standing from 1716? That's quite amazing. We should go check this out in our show. I love that idea that must have an incredible history and an incredible story. Yeah, so let's get our film crew together and get out there and check this out. How about you just grab your keys, let's do it now. I love how impatient you are. What are we waiting for? Grab your keys. Let's go. I'm literally Johnson. I'm Marlo Anderson. Thank you for joining us on our journey to celebrate every day. Join us for all of our adventures on Facebook and Instagram at Destination Celebration Show. Until next time, keep celebrating. But she looks in my eyes and makes me realize when she says, "Don't worry baby, everything will turn out alright, don't worry baby." Each morning I'll wake and find the sunlight softness shining in her hair. And then I realize I'm longing thinking that she really doesn't care. There's magic in her eyes that makes me come alive when she says, "Don't worry baby, everything will turn out alright, don't worry baby, don't worry baby." She told me, "Baby, when you leave your day, just take a long my love with you." And if you knew how much I love you baby, nothing could go wrong with you. But what she does to me when she says, "Don't worry baby, everything will turn out alright, don't worry baby, everything will turn out alright, don't worry baby." B.J. Billy Joe Thomas, he had lots of country, contemporary Christian and pop hits in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. He received 5 Grammys, he died 3 years ago from lung cancer.
