II Samuel 22:32-43 – Praise for God’s Salvation

"Welcome to the Living Word with Chuck Davis." "Second Samuel 22, 32 to 43, craze for God's salvation. For who is God but the Lord? And who is a rock except our God? This God is my strong refuge and has made my way blameless. He made my feet like the feet of a deer and sent me secure on the heights. He trains my hands for war so that my arms can bend a bow of bronze. He has given me the shield of your salvation and your gentleness made me great. You gave a wide place for my steps and under me and my feet did not slip. I pursued my enemies and destroyed them and did not turn back until they were consumed. I consumed them. I thrust them through so that they did not rise. They fell under my feet. So you equipped me with strength for the battle. You made those who rise against me sink under me. You made my enemies turn their backs to me. Those who hated me and I destroyed them. They looked but there was none to save. They cried to the Lord but he did not answer them. I beat them fine as the dust of the earth. I crushed them and stamped them down with the mire of the streets. The worshipper David seems to get a clearer picture again. He's moved away from his own celebration whether it's even just aspirational to a clear Yahweh focus. I love this phrase for who is God but the Lord. It's almost calling every idol to raise its head to be crushed, that there's only one true God. Who is the rock except our God? The only foundation, the only security, the only refuge we get is from the Lord. But in the midst of all this we see that the worshipping David moves from declaring things outward in the third person. He made my feet. He trains my hands to you have given. David celebrates God outward to those who were around him but now he turns towards heaven and he celebrates God directly. It's God who has trained him. It's God who has equipped. Powerful to see how he turns his eyes towards heaven. That it was God who has been the one who has been going for him all this time. The soul of this passage is a reminder for me to regularly sing to God and not just about him. There's a real error and especially corporate worship that we can get to a place where we don't really think about the fact that we're not just singing words and truths about God that reinforce us, we're declaring things to him. We're declaring his worth before other people but we're declaring his worth before him. Praying and praising privately can become a self-satisfaction without recognizing that God is the only one who is really worth worship and when we do it and when we express it to him, when we turn from eyes down in our world, the eyes towards him and his heavenly position, there is something that changes in the atmosphere. Right now what for you is to spend a few moments telling the Lord what you think about him. If you can, sing a song to him. I'm going to pray in a second as according to my pattern but I'm going to give you time after that. This is a prompt. Spend a moment giving praise to your God. So Lord, here we are. We will create it to bring you glory and you are the only one who is worthy of glory in our lives. So hear us as we bring praise to you. [BLANK_AUDIO]
