The 2003 Kaesler Stonehorse Shiraz blew me away!

[Music] Well if you don't recognize that, that is AC/DC and their song "Thunderstruck" Which I picked because I was thunderstruck by this wine I'm getting ready to tell you about I mentioned the other day that this woman brought us a case of wine that she just wanted us to dispose of She thought it was all way too old, she has arthritis in her hands she can't really use a corkscrew to remove the corks and just pour the wine out so she brought it does and asked us to dispose of it I pulled three bottles out of this case of ultra-old wine, well not ultra-old but old for the wines and that I thought might possibly be enjoyable and last night I opened one of them the 2003 Caselor Stonehorse Charaz So 2003 Caselor Charaz Stonehorse which was a really great wine when it was released it was probably $15 and it was a part but who would think 21 years later that it would still be enjoyable It's actually a little bit longer than 21 years because of course the harvest in the southern hemisphere is in our spring So it's like 21 and a half years old and I checked on the wine advocate website and in his notes on this wine Robert Purr said He gave it 92 to 94 points which was very high rating for this wine but he said to drink it through 2014 which of course that's 10 years ago I didn't expect it to be very good The court came out at one piece which is so much surprising for a 20 year old Australian Charaz wine was absolutely wonderful It was absolutely wonderful, it was added speak, it was perfectly mature Of course it totally resolved tannins so very soft and juicy in the mouth Dark free, you know it's a brass valley Charaz so it's full bodied, it's dark, it's intense, a lot of spice So the point that the lesson to learn is never predisposed what a wine will be just based on the label Even if it has no chance whatsoever of being good still being good Pull the court pour yourself a glass, smell it, you can smell it, you'll know if you smell it If it smells like Cheri or Madera, it's oxidized and you won't be able to enjoy it But if it doesn't then it has a chance, it has a chance, it always has a chance to be something special as this wine was 2003, it's a hazel or stun horse Charaz The bottle I opened last night, I think Robert Parker was exactly right, I think it's about a 94.1 And based on the fact that it lived for 21 plus years, maybe it's 94 plus points It was really, I made a pizza with pepperoni and calamato olives and pickled jalapenos And I shredded up some fresh malsarela and freshly grated parmesan, put it on top and it was absolutely wonderful With this shirt of stress, so don't decide without opening the bottle that the wine is not going to be enjoyable because every now and then something, but you'll really be surprised.
