Not only is he molding the minds of America's future, not only does he cover the Wildcats 4 Go Paracad over on the 247 network, he is a participant in the trivia series. He is a participant of the folks that give you case state primers in the fall. And he's done a live show or two. He also is part of the Go Paracad podcast crew as well. It is the manned myth, the legend, someone I was in a fantasy football league with last year. Cole Carmody, Cole, welcome back to the show. And welcome back to the Kansas City Metro as well. Thank you, I appreciate that amazing introduction. I don't know if I've ever had somebody introduce me like that. I guess if there's one thing that you're good for, Scott, it is giving people amazing introductions. So the tradition lives on. Yeah, man, this has been fun. I'm looking forward to doing this. This has been a long time coming. I know it has been a long time coming. And again, my introduction is-- I think that's why people still continue to come on. It's like, OK, you know, will this be a hit to my professionalism? Maybe, but I need my ego stroked a little bit. So I think that's why people continue to come on. So I'm happier here. This doesn't go up on YouTube, but I love the backdrop that you got going on. You got some lead eight covers from New York. It looks like you have a white helmet. I absolutely love it. How's being back in the Kansas City area? I know that you cut your teaching teeth at Junction City. Now you're back in the Kansas City area. Are you happy to be home? Oh, yeah, I'm so excited, man. I'm actually back at the school, where I went to high school. I'll be teaching history at Alitha North, coaching freshman football, too. So a lot of fun stuff. I'm back where I went to school. We had our first days of in-service the other day. And it was weird seeing a bunch of former teachers. They're like, oh, hey, I remember you. Can I call you by your first name now? And yeah, the answer is yes. But it was difficult. Leave a Manhattan. You spend so much time in a place, as you well know, it's got like you grow and it molds you into a different person. And so I'm definitely going to miss living there. But I always tell myself, it's not that far away. And be back very often to see the guys in purple competing because, I mean, it's just it's a part of you. Once it becomes a part of you, it just never leaves. All right, if you're coaching freshman football, what side of the ball? I'm coaching offensive and defensive line. OK, so are they letting you call any plays? I was going to ask, what's the script look like on offense for the first game? Well, right now we've put in four plays. And they are all inside and outside zone. And so believe it or not, our offense actually takes a lot from what Connor Riley does at K-State. They've talked to him a lot. And so we try to kind of implement the same blocking style that they do at K-State. And so it's pretty easy to sit there and watch a K-State and be like, hey, I know exactly what play they're running because I'm going to call that play for the very first. It's going to be wide zone. We're going to run wide zone right down the throat the first game of the season. And hopefully it works. Well, I absolutely love it. I absolutely love it. All right, what is the one thing that you're going to miss about the summer now that you're back to working? Teachers don't get as long as long as the summer. So what was the thing that got you through the summer? Well, I coached baseball, too. And so I actually probably did more work over the summer between doing stuff for Go Power Cat between getting things stuff ready for school, between coaching football, being up at six in the morning, and then coaching baseball, being out of the baseball field for six hours a day. I probably do more work in the summer. So honestly, I'm actually ready for football season because as we were taping this on a Saturday morning, there's three Saturdays left until college football. The feeling of being able to wake up and just know that there's football on TV in the next few hours, I'm super excited for. So I'm ready for the fall. I'm going to miss the summer and being able to sleep in on occasion. But not really. I'm just ready for the routine of football season because there really is no better time in football season. I agree. I can't wait for that Ireland game. It sounds like Ryan Lackey will be over there. So hopefully it's a good game, but really I'm just going to be staking out the digs because I'm planning on getting over there. So I'm excited for that. - Yeah, that's going to be a blast. My last name is Carmody. It's very Irish. Maybe not as Irish as my boss, Tim Fitzgerald, but I've talked to my old man and he wants to go over there. So if he needs a roommate, I might just tag along with him and go see what's happening because yeah, it's crazy how K-State's last regular season game is against Iowa State this year. And then the first game of the season will be against Iowa State next year. So a lot of wild cats and cyclones, but it's going to snap our fingers and this football season is going to be over. So you just have to enjoy every moment. - Yes. And something I enjoy with my football season is Manhattan Brewing Company. You know, whether game day, if it starts at home or on the road, Manhattan Brewing Company is your spot for delicious pre-game beverages. Our official tailgate beer is town-y wheat, but it doesn't matter if you like something like crisp and crushable, or if you're a hop head and you want a great IPA or something that I tend to do when I get in there. I try to get one of their multi beers and I try to pretend it's already autumn or even the winter or some of their stouts. It doesn't matter what your beer tastes. Your favorite beer is waiting for at Manhattan Brewing Company. Remember, every time you stop by the happiest place in America, get a four pack, get a couple of crawlers and of course, one or two pints before you leave and they're distributed all throughout the state. So talk to your local liquor store, no free ads, but I talk to missies right here in Shawnee. And guess what, now they're stocking tasty IPA, town-y wheat and wabash ale. I know people don't like to talk. Just talk to whoever buys a craft beer, they'll get Manhattan Brewing Company in there. And brand new news for you guys who live in Wichita, they're opening up their own lounge. So that's right, you can get Manhattan Brewing Company every weekend in Wichita here, starting in a couple of weeks. I'm jealous, I'm gonna try to bully them to open the place in Shawnee. Cole, you can come, I know, you're in Olathe, right? - Please. - Yep. - Okay, so it'll be a little bit of a drive up to Shawnee, but I'm working on them. So everyone politely tell Jake and the boys over at Manhattan Brewing Company to open up in Shawnee for me, for my own selfish reasons. So again, Manhattan Brewing Company is simply the best. All right, here's my first question for you. You're covering the team I talk about. I'm curious from your point of view, what are one or two things that normal fans are not talking about enough in the buildup to this K-State football season? - I think the offensive line. I mean, that's the one thing that is different about this team compared to the previous teams and not just the group, but the whole coaching situation. And I wouldn't say question marks, but just the, just how different the offensive line looks. And maybe that's, I can say that for every single team because a lot of fans tend to focus on the quarterback and the running back, but you look at that offensive line group and quietly, they return for guys who played. And so everybody likes to think, oh, you know, they lose Cooper BB, they lose KT, they lose crit, like yeah, all that is very true, but they also get back, all those guys, you know, that we've talked about before. And I know you've talked about on your show. And I look at some of these guys on the offensive line and I just, I just think they can be really good. And how cool is it that they've stuck around through all of this? I think that's the biggest story to me, is that these guys have stuck around and waited their turn. I mean, we'd like to think a Hadley Panzer is being kind of a younger player, but I believe he's a registered junior. So he's been here for four years and he's played a lot. And so now he transitions into that role of being kind of the leader, the kind of the vocal leader. And he talked a lot of big 12 media days kind of about that, but you know, Connor Riley now, and I don't need to see the offensive coordinator, but he still works with the offensive line. It's not like he just left those guys out to dry. So I'm interested to see what the offensive line looks like. I think that they're going to be, they're kind of underrated nationally, at least if whenever people have questions about K-State, they look at the offensive line. But I think if you really look at some of those guys and how good they can be, I think it could be a really strong suit of this team. So I have to answer that. - This episode is brought to you by our good friends at NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube TV. I'm sure by now you've all got back into your Sunday routines, but they could be even better. With NFL Sunday Ticket and YouTube TV, you get the most live NFL games all in one place, every game, every Sunday, and you can even watch up to four different games at once with MultiView, one of my favorite inventions of this decade. It's exactly what you need to catch all the action. Make your Sundays more magical. And also, YouTube TV is great. I got it this year. It's awesome. Sign up now at youtube.com/bsdevice and content restrictions apply. Local and national games on YouTube TV NFL Sunday Ticket for Out of Market Games excludes digital-only games. - Well, then you mentioned Pans are in, again, this is something I forget myself. He's actually a senior because he did not register his true freshman year in 2021. Something that almost never happens with offensive linemen, but you said it correctly. I've heard a few people say, "Oh, they're not returning any of their starters "on the offensive line." Well, that's not true. Hadley Pans are started all 13. Carver Willis started seven. Again, Christian Duffy's started a handful of games, but he's been plagued by injury. And then you're bringing in an FCS All-American as well. So I like that you brought that up. And again, after talking to Connor Riley a couple of weeks ago, I just got fired up and I think it's going to be a good group. And something not to be undersold, Drew Little's back in Manhattan. - Yeah. - Someone who came up through the ranks as a GA and as an analyst went with Dana Demel to coach offensive line in YouTube. But he's back and with all the restrictions lifted, I don't believe, you might have been at open practice. I don't know, but looking at all the videos, Drew Little right out there coaching the offensive line and all the analysts are down there. So I think that's going to be a game changer for the offensive line as well. - And how cool is it now? I mean, I know that there's a lot of negatives surrounding maybe the idea that analysts can coach, but I mean, I think it's really cool that for K-State, you get a guy who has literally been an offensive line coach at a Division I level who spent time at Kansas State who knows what that program looks like. And now he's back and a de facto offensive line coach. I mean, because there's going to be times where Connor Riley is out working with other position groups. So to be able to leave the offensive line with a guy who knows what he's doing, I think that's a really underrated part of this role and it's really going to help K-State this year, especially in Connor's first year. So yeah, again, I'm just excited for this offensive line. And it's not like there's not going to be struggles because last year there were struggles in the beginning part of the year. So I don't want people to think that right out of the gate, this offensive line, just going to kick everybody's ass or anything like that, but it's going to take some time, but they can be really good. - Yeah, and again, I think that, I think there's a established seven, it'll be interesting to see who that interior three is going to be snap one. But as Connor Riley said, on our show, I'm sure he's going to say it in his press availability. I think it'll happen, but I don't know. I think this is happening. I think we're publishing this one on Thursday. I don't know if he's going to have availability before that, but I'm sure he'll be asked. He'll say, no, we want to rotate, get guys in there. And I think in the long run, it is worth it. So I'm excited to see what happens there. Then the next thing I'll ask you before we get into the Blitz month predictions, there is so much hype around Avery Johnson. He's going to be a popular pick. I'll ask about offensive MVP later. He's going to be the runaway favorite for that in all the Blitz months previews, as he probably should be. The New York Post, not the New York Times. The New York Post, excuse me, predicted him to be their Heisman winner. K-State fans are going crazy. He's the number 10 in the Heisman odds, but he wasn't the preseason first team all Big 12 quarterback. There are a lot of great quarterbacks throughout the country in the Big 12. I mean, hell, you have Rocco Beck biting at his ankles. So there's so many good quarterbacks in the conference. But what is a realistic ceiling for him? I think we all know like, hey, the ceiling ceiling, roof is the ceiling stuff is Heisman. It is first team all-American, all that type of stuff. Is that a realistic ceiling or should it be, hey, let's get them all conference honors or hey, let's just have them ball out. Where do you land? What is the single standard deviation for a ceiling for Avery Johnson? - It's just, it's so hard to answer that question because every single bone in my somewhat professional body tells me to not overreact. But I look at everything that this kid does from the way he handles himself on the field. I go back to that bowl game and how many times last year did Will Howard or even the year before Skyler Thompson, the quarterback before Skyler Thompson, it felt like they would scramble around and if nobody was open, maybe they would try and tuck it and run, but more often than not, there'd be a lot of sacks that would get taken. And you go back to that bowl game and like, okay, Avery Johnson's completion percentage wasn't very good, but it's because whenever he was about to get sacked, instead of taking the hit, he escaped the pocket and threw the ball away. And to do that as a 18 year old is really impressive, first of all, but second of all, when you look at what he does off the field, the way he handles himself in the media, the way he's handled himself with his teammates, I mean, scheduling a retreat with all of his offensive skill position players and-- - Hang for it all, hang for it all. - Exactly. I mean, this is a 19 year old kid. Like, I think people forget that the best part about college athletics is that you are rooting on young men, but Avery is literally like still a kid. And so the fact that he's that mature at that age, it really makes me think that he can be that special. And so, you know, whenever you're around the great ones, you can always tell that they have that it factor. And, you know, I wanna see Avery on the field more because I have a feeling that he is one of the great ones, but off the field, he has the maturity of an NFL player, of an NFL quarterback. And so, you know, again, it's very easy for us to say, oh, he's gonna win the Heisman, he's gonna go do this, but you have to be able to handle yourself off the field. And he can handle himself off the field. He's got the hard part out of the way. And so will he take his lumps on the field? Yes, I think he will, but there's no reason that he can't be the best quarterback in this conference. There's no reason that he can't win a Heisman Trophy. There's no reason that he can't be one of the best quarterbacks in all the college football because he checks literally all of the boxes. - Yeah, and I'm glad he brought up, you know, his pocket awareness in that bowl game because I get hung up and some folks have come after me a little bit. I would have liked to see him. Hey, pick up four or five yards, get out of bounds on a couple of those and instead of just throwing it away, but you mentioned it in something that is overlooked. You know, I know some KU and I with state fans that have loved to look at that stat on, be like, you guys are going crazy for a guy who had a 50% completion rate. Well, what, four or five of those? 90 to 95% of the quarterbacks, they're going down and it's a sack. He gets out calmly and then just like, all right, well, no one's out there. They told me not to run to protect myself. I'm just going to throw it away. And I think that pocket presence is something that's even die hard K state fans or even guys who are dialed in on the big 12 don't realize that he possesses. And again, that's with one start at quarterback in his entire career. - Yeah, it's going to be interesting to watch. And, you know, I've used this example before, but like, you know, we both watched the Chiefs. And the great thing about Mahomes is his ability to do just that, right? He probably runs a little bit more than he probably should, to be quite honest. But his ability to just escape the pocket, if nothing's there, I'm just going to throw the ball away. I mean, it's such an underrated part of the game and with where the game is going and how much more athletic defenders are getting. If you want to avoid hits, you're going to have to do that. And so it wouldn't surprise me if Avery maybe has a little bit lower completion percentage, but there's also not going to be those negative plays that we've seen from some K-State quarterbacks in the past. - Yeah, because how many times over just watching college or even pro football, you know, it's third and seven from the 30, you're right on the fringe, a field goal range. They'd take a sack and then you're in no man's land. And I don't think we're going to have to worry about that with Avery and that's super exciting. - No, it isn't. That's Scott, I agree. And right, we're sitting here talking about pocket presence. That's how you know football season is here is we're looking at a guy who's had one start and we're saying, "Look at that the way he throws the ball away." I mean, that's how you know that we're just waiting for games to start. - Yeah, no, I can't wait for it. I can't wait for it. Something else I can't wait for are friends at Charlie Hustle. So we have Blitz month here. They have counting down to kick off at Charlie Hustle. First off, if you guys are listening to this on release day, it might be too late. They just dropped their big 12 mascot family portrait, crew neck and t-shirt. I ordered the crew neck. It's absolutely awesome with all 16 mascots for the big 12. They did that on release date for the conference. Well, later on this month, they're going to have count down to kick off. And they will not actually physically share the pictures with me because they know how excited I'd get, but they did show me the last time I talked with them. They wouldn't give me hard copies, but K-State's getting a brand new jacket, a brand new hoodie and two new t-shirts. And one of the t-shirts is my absolute favorite. So be tuned in to Charlie Hustle on social media, on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook. I don't think they're on threads, no one's on threads. If you're on threads, get help, get off of it. Don't worry about it. But Charlie Hustle has some great stuff coming up. And if you are a Kansas City fan like me, they also have stuff in their Crown Town collection. They got their Kansas City football collection. They have all sorts of Kansas City pride stuff waiting for you to purchase. It's the most comfortable and most stylish gear in the game. Shop Charlie Hustle, vintage made fresh. All right, it's time, you're a debutante. I usually keep the same roster of folks for Blitz month, but I wanted to get you in. So this is your first time participating in Blitz month. And look, outside of the final question, if I catch you predicting something else elsewhere, I'm gonna stick the boneheads on you. They come with clubs. They're gonna take your kneecaps out. So I want you to really make your predictions wisely. So we're gonna get into it. Are you willing to take on this mantle? I'm willing. This is my first prediction show of the year. So I'm setting the bar pretty high. Absolutely perfect. And I will, I do keep track of all of these. The plan is to get your boss, Tim Fitzgerald on later this month for his second appearance in Blitz month. He made his debut appearance last year. So we'll compare and contrast and see if there's something in the water, Metaphorically with GoParket, see how many answers you guys have as the same. But the first one we hinted at it earlier, who's the offensive MVP gonna be for your buck? So everybody's gonna pick Avery Johnson like we talked about. And I do think that there's a good chance he becomes offensive MVP. I know I sat there for 10 minutes and basically told you why he's the best quarterback in the history of football, but I'm actually gonna say DJ Giddens. Again, I look at DJ and like, you go back and you watch his games last year and you're like, this guy is just really good. And if he didn't sit behind Deuce Vaughn, if he had probably played a little bit more the year before, I think that he would be completely onto the national scene. But this guy's like six, two, maybe even six, three, you have to go back and look at the official roster. He just, he looks like a linebacker, Scott. And I mean, this is an NFL running back. Like I don't think people understand, this guy is going to play in the NFL. Now he might want to come back for a senior year, but I think K-State's treating this, like this is gonna be his last year at K-State because he is going to be an NFL running back. I understand that NFL running backs are a dime a dozen. But when you look at what DJ can do from his ability to catch the ball out of the backfield, his ability to run past defenders, which is a very underrated part of his game, people think that he is just this guy who is gonna run over everybody, but he's actually really fast. He has an opportunity to be one of the better running backs in this conference. And that's saying a lot because there are some really good backs in the big 12. I think DJ Gins is gonna be the offensive VP. I think he's gonna rush for over a thousand yards, which is especially a lot when you consider who he is sharing a backfield with and Dylan Edwards. So I think DJ is gonna have a great year. And I think he might be the catalyst that really drives his K-State offense because there's going to be a lot of room for him because everybody's gonna be a key in on number two. So when you key on number two, you forget about number 31. And when he gets the ball, he is very electric. - I think something that our friend Drew Galloway likes to bring up anytime DJs brought up is, hey, by the end of the year, you could be looking at the record books and he might be the number three rusher of all time. And all he has to do I think is 1,100 yards. I think folks forget how much he produced as a freshman behind Duce Vaughn and even beyond just the rushing. He had over 300 yards receiving last year. - So I love that pick, I am the, probably not the president. Jimmy Goheen probably put me on to him before anyone else, but DJ the Bluejay get-ins, I absolutely love him and I love the hype you're handing off to him. The next one, and I could make an argument for nine to 10 different people, but who is going to be the defense of MVP this season? - I thought about this question for like 30 minutes when I saw it because it's just so hard to nail down. Like there's so many different things you could go and areas you could go to. Do you want to go to a defense alignment who is going to cause havoc in the backfield with a forward down front? Maybe we see that more this year. Do you want to go to a linebacker and look at one of the veterans or maybe a new guy that's a linebacker or do you want to look at an experience back end? And it's a tough question. I actually didn't make my decision until this morning right before we were recorded. So I'm going to say Jacob Parrish. And I'm very, very biased when I say Jacob Parrish. I let it be known that his older brother I graduated high school with, I grew up with. So I'm really good friends with that family. I've known Jacob since he's been in like fifth grade. But I look at Jacob and what he did last year and just how consistent he was. I mean, this is a guy who, he comes and reminds me of Echo Boydo in a sense, right? Echo Boydo was always one of those guys who he just didn't let defender, he just didn't let receivers make any catches. I mean, I don't think he finished with the, he don't think he had a single interception in his career case date, but he just didn't let guys make catches. And you look at Jacob, I look at how he's able to just be a blanket on guys, you know, no pun intended, sorry, will we? But he is, he is a shutdown corner and he has the speed to run with anybody. I think that's what makes his game so good, is that he has the speed to run with anybody. And he just makes plays on the ball. And so I'm really excited for Jacob. I think he leads the team in interceptions this year. And an underrated part about Jacob Parrish is that he's actually a really good tackler. I don't think people really realize that. He's a really good tackler and can set the edge. So I'm excited for Jacob. I'll say he finishes as the team MVP and solidifies the number one corner spot for case date this year. - Yeah, no, I like that pick. I love Jacob Parrish and you mentioned, you know, he's a good tackler. I recall a couple times last year where, you know, there's an outside runner or jet sweep coming to his side. And he knows how to lay the wood as well. So I think Jacob Parrish is going to get the boys hyped up in Bill Snyder family stadium this year. All right. So then the next one, the next two questions I know you guys have been doing your own drafts over at Go Power Cab Breakthrough Players. I have it broken out a little bit different. The first one I used to have, you know, newcomer or breakout and I used to do both sides of the ball. No, this year I'm going newcomer and breakout. It can be offense, it can be defense. It can even be special teams as we heard a chef go last week. But who is going to be your newcomer of the year, true freshman or transfer? - So the easy answer is Dylan Edwards. But I'm going to take the difficult route and I'm going to say Alec Morenko. I think he's going to come in at Mike linebacker and start. If he can stay healthy, if he can stay healthy, which is a kind of an issue with him at times, at least it has been at New Mexico. But if he can stay healthy, he is going to be, I mean, probably had the most production at the middle linebacker spot, K-State scene since that 2022 season of Daniel Green. And maybe even the 2021 season of Daniel Green. And so I'm really excited for Alec Morenko. You go watch his tape, he put a little bit of outside linebacker at New Mexico. But, I mean, this is a guy. We saw him at one of the K-State's elite camps. I mean, he just, he looks like he's like 29, 30 years old. And he should be flying middle linebacker for the Chiefs. Like, this guy is jacked. And I really loved his tape at New Mexico. When K-State got him over Arizona, I thought that that was probably, at the time, the best portal edition that K-State's had. Obviously, Dylan Edwards came on later. And, you know, I think he has a chance to have a great year. But I think Alec Morenko is going to solidify that Mike linebacker spot. Again, if he stays healthy, and he's got a chance to be an all-conference selection at Mike linebacker because you put him with a good defense, you put a good surrounding cast around him, this is a guy who can shine. And it wouldn't surprise me if Dylan has a great season, 'cause I think he's going to have a great season. But I think Alec Morenko is maybe a little bit more important, because if you're not relying on Alec Morenko, then there are some question marks with Austin Romaine. And they said, "Nousam, I think those guys can do it, no doubt." But if Alec Morenko is indeed a breakout player for this Kansas State team, it means that they're having a lot of success on defense. - No, I'm right there with you. And I think K-State's defenses have always been at its best when it has that star middle linebacker, just running things over. So he's going to be one of those guys I key in on those first two home games. So I'm excited to see him play. All right, so we'll go to breakout player of the year. So this is a returning player at K-State who's yet to make a big impact in this time. - So again, this was a tough question. I think last year, if I were to have answered this question, if I were to answer the newcomer question last year, I would have said Keegan Johnson. And now I'm going to break out player, I'm going to say Keegan Johnson. Again, I go back and watch his tape at Iowa. And I said this about a million times on the podcast, but like look what he did at Iowa. This guy is a talent. And you really kind of started to see that at the end of the year last year. I think he's maybe not going to be that deep threat that fans want him to be. But that's why you have Jace Brown. And that's why you have Dante Cephas. I look at Keegan Johnson's ability to run those crossing routes, run those hits routes, to catch the ball and then get upfield after the catch. I think that's where he's going to have it. That's where he's going to be special. I think Dante Cephas has a chance to be one of those breakout players too. But I look like Keegan Johnson can do. And again, it all goes back to if he can stay healthy, which his first three was healthy, but he hasn't been healthy since for a full year. So I think he has a chance to be really good. And I don't know if he's going to necessarily be the number one wide receiver on this team, but there is a world that exists in which he finishes with the second or third most receiving yards on the team. - I firmly need to see it to believe it with Keegan Johnson. I hope I see it because I got bit a couple times last year hearing some whisper, oh man, what a week at practice. And then sure enough, you know, little injury in the first quarter and doesn't really get going for the entire game. So knocking on wood for him, I really do hope because you're correct. The talent is there. My favorite question, my favorite question, what is the pendulum game of the year? What's going to swing the year one way or another with a winner loss? - So the pendulum game for me, it's going to be early. And I don't necessarily think that if they lose this game, then it's going to all go to hell in a hand basket. But if they win the game, then I think we'll have a really good idea of where this team is going and that's Arizona. I look at that game because if K-State loses, they're two-in-one going into conference play. And that's fine, how many times has K-State done that? They've been able to win a big 12 championship at two-in-one. But if they win that game, not only have you gone undefeated in your non-con play, not only have you defeated a team who I think has a really good chance to play in the big 12 championship game at the end of the season, but you've also set that expectation that you're a ranked team. You have high expectations. You come up into Bill Snyder family stadium and you lose. And you look at all the contenders for the big 12. They all come in to Manhattan. Any team that has high expectations, K-State gets at home. And so I think that's huge. And I think they will be Arizona. First of all, as you'll hear my prediction at the end of the show, but I think that if they can find a way to win that game on a Friday night, on national TV, the narrative about this team completely switches because it goes from, oh, look at cute little old K-State. They are in the top 15. They are still trying to replace that quarterback who went to Ohio State, but look at Chris Kline, he just finds a way to win. The narrative goes from that to, wow, look at this team. They have some true stars. They just did this to Arizona on national TV on a Friday night. They're three and oh, and then they start to get rolling. And so I look at that as the pendulum game. And I think maybe not necessarily for the team, but for the narrative, for the fan base, for the national media, it switches. And it goes from maybe they'll have a chance to compete for a big 12 to this team is a college football playoff contender, no matter what. I love it. All right. So you're set in the table. At least three and oh, what is K-State's final? We'll go regular season record here. - Again, I hate to be that guy. And I look at the schedule for K-State and there are games where you say, oh, they can, they can lose that game. But in the past, it's gone from, oh, they can lose that game too. Oh, well, they can win that game. But the reality of the situation is K-State is gonna be favored in every single game this year. And so if you just go off of the books in Vegas, if K-State were to lose, that would be an upset. And I love the stuff that Kelly Ford does and you look at like the college football playoff predictors and all that kind of stuff. And it's like, well, as long as K-State doesn't lose two games, two or three, or really three games, if they don't lose three games, if they go 10 and two with this schedule, then regardless of what happens in Arlington or even if they don't make Arlington, they're still in a good spot to make the college football playoff. And so I think that with how talented this group is, with how well-rounded, how much depth this team has, they are going to be playing in Arlington. I know that's one of your questions. I don't wanna sit here and say they're gonna be 12-0 because I feel like if I were to say, oh, they're gonna be 12-0, they're gonna be a number three team in the country to make the college football playoff, then people are just gonna look at me and say, you're a homer. So because of that, I'll say they go 11-1. I don't know where they're gonna lose. I don't know, I'm not gonna predict the loss right now because realistically, if I were to say where they're gonna lose, I would probably say Iowa State, but at the same time, if they're 11-0 and they go on the road in Ames, how heartbreaking that would be to see K-State lose. I mean, that would just be horrible. So I'm gonna hope that they lose before then and then win that game and finish 11-1. - If that happens, I might end the podcast. I might end the podcast if that happens. Even if we had already clenched Arlington, I would still maybe end the podcast. All right, so you say K-State makes it to Arlington, who are they playing? - Again, this is a great question because everybody wants to say Utah and I think Utah can get there. I think they can get there, but I'm just not sold. I mean, I know they didn't have their quarterback. I know they had a bunch of injuries last year, but that team did not look very good at the end of the season. And so I'm not gonna say KU because I'm not on board with, how do I put this nicely? I don't think Jalen Daniels is going to play 12 games. And I think for K-State-- - You're on the show making a certified glass boy, but you have to be a profession, so. - Thank you. In order for KU to make the big 12 championship game, he has to play 12 games. I believe that. And I don't think he's gonna play 12 games, so I don't think they're gonna get there. I think Oklahoma State can get there because I like their schedule. And the only thing about Oklahoma State is I don't like their quarterback. So I'm gonna take them out. So that leaves me with three teams at the top who you're like, eh, eh, will they make it? So I actually think it's gonna be a team that nobody's expecting. Now, is that gonna be UCF? Is that gonna be West Virginia? It's not gonna be Colorado 'cause everyone three games. But it's gonna be a team that nobody's expecting. So I know my job here is to predict who's going to make the big 12 championship game. So, you know, I'm just gonna draw some names out of a hat here. I'll say UCF is who K-State plays in Arlington. - Dude, I am on the UCF bandwagon and I don't wanna see them. I think Gus with KJ Jeffersa, I think they are going to be rolling this year. And I would almost rather like see Utah than UCF. So I like that pick, I hope it's wrong. 'Cause they scare me. So in your prediction, is K-State taking down UCF? Are they two-time big 12 champions in a three-year period? The first team in the 16-team era? Or does Gus Malzahn take that back to Orlando to celebrate with Mickey Mouse? - Yeah, I do think K-State wins the big 12. Regardless of who they play. And so you're holding me to my predictions. I'm not gonna let you hold me to UCF is gonna be in Arlington. But I will let you hold me to the fact that K-State goes 11 and one and one is big 12. - I like that prediction so much that if I'm listening to the radio hit, if I'm listening to your guys' podcast, if I see you doing something on your guys' message board, if I see you go away from UCF, I will be disappointed because I love that pick. And again, the fun part about me doing this, I don't put my own, I'm not gonna do my own predictions until the final episode before the season. But gun to my head right now, I mean, that's where I was leaning. So I hope you don't back off of UCF. I think you should stay strong. - Well, UCF lost me a lot of money last year when I decided to bet on them. So hopefully they don't make me lose a lot of credibility too. But yeah, I do think K-State wins. And either way, if my predictions are wrong, I still think the ceiling for this team is 11 and one to 12 and oh, and the floor is eight and four. And would eight and four be disappointing? I think maybe probably a little bit. But if you're eight and four, then it's probably a season like this year where instead of eight and four, they could have been 10 and two. They could have been 11 and one. And at that point, you can say, well, then you can squint your eyes and say, well, next year will be better. And so I just don't see a way that this team isn't competing in every single game and has a chance to make the cost for both playoff when the calendar turns to November. This team is gonna be in it the entire way. They are gonna have people, nobody's gonna wanna play them and national media is gonna fall in love with number two and Chris climbing. - All right. And then the final question, we always kind of go off the wall. You know, in 2020, I was asking, how many games is KCA even gonna play? You know, I think in 2021, I was like, well, what conference are they even gonna play in? So this is usually kind of a little more off the wall and this is more fun than the last few years, although last year was fine. But what is going to be the surprise job opening called football that shocks college football world? Every single year since we've been doing this podcast, there has been a surprise big job that just really shakes everything up, whether it's Bob Stoops, you know, retiring in the middle of the night to get Lincoln Riley into Lincoln Riley going to USC, Brian Kelly going to LSU, all sorts of crazy stuff always happens in the world of college football. This is not one I'm gonna hold you to. Do not worry, but call your shot and we have yet to have a repeat answer. So who's gonna be the shock job opening? - So let it be known that whoever gets fired or whoever leaves Lance Leifold, Chris Klimann, Matt Campbell will be three mentioned by Pete Famer whenever he tweets out, so-and-so is looking for so-and-so. So let it be known that those three guys will be mentioned, no matter what and no matter how this season plays out. I'm gonna say Dan Lanning and where is Dan Lanning gonna go? Well, Dan Lanning's gonna go to Texas because Steve Sarkeesian's gonna go to the NFL. - Whoa, that's a twofer right there. That is my twofer. - God, there were three, there were four teams in this college football playoff, right? That's how the game all worked. Well, three of them have new coaches this year. Three of them have new coaches this year. So crazy things are gonna happen at the top and can't you just see it right now? Steve Sarkeesian, he takes Texas to the playoff, maybe they lose and he doesn't want to have to coach arched manning because he's not actually that good. And so he decides he's gonna cash in on all of his chips, he's gonna cash out, he's gonna go take a job, he's gonna go coach the, who's he gonna go coach? Where's he from? He's from out there out west. Maybe he's gonna go be the coach of the Los Angeles Chargers 'cause they realize they don't like their coach. Harbaugh's gonna come back to college. - Harbaugh's gonna come back to college and he's gonna take the Oregon job because Dan Lanning's gonna go to Texas. - No, man, well, if that happens, Cole has a script and everyone needs to be listening to him. That is the most in depth answer and it's the most entertaining. So sign me up, I would love to see it. Cole, that's all we have. As always, we'll give the guest final say plug, anything you guys got going on at, go paracat, any personal projects you have going on, work in the boneheads, find you on social media, the whole nine yards. - Yeah, we don't have a lot going on right now. Once football season starts, we'll get back up. I do the Friday walkthrough with Monty Spiller every Friday. So the goal is to continue that. Once football season starts, but just check us out on our YouTube page and you can look at my backdrop that Scott talks about that's so elegant, that has a white door with just a bunch of K-State stuff up and newspapers that I walked around all of Manhattan to try and find when I was in New York. So other than that, listen to check me out on the podcast other than that, you can find me on Twitter. We'll call me 52, but you can just see me and Scott complaining about the Royals, that's about it. - Well, I wasn't really complaining. I was just saying that like, I don't know if we're going to make it to the divisional round. Although I'm so hot and it's weird. I'm the most passionate about K-State and I think I'm relatively even keel. Like I get it from both sides. Like anytime I'm happy, some folks think I'm too happy. If I'm negative, people think I'm too negative. I think I'm pretty even keel when it comes to K-State. And with the Chiefs, like who cares? Like I never thought we'd win one Super Bowl. It's like, why worry about anything? But when it comes to like the Royals and sporting Kansas City or the U.S. Men's National Team Soccer. Oh, I am unhinged. I'm unhinged. I treat, you know, if the Royals are supposed to be good. So it took me like, I was kind of skeptic for a while, but now that we're in it. Oh, any given moment, if we give up two runs in a inning, I'm treating it like, you know, K-State just lost to, you know, Fort Hayes State and basketball. I'm melting down. So I am very emotional when it comes to those teams. I don't know how to keep things equilibrium. And worst case scenario, I'm paying for us to get some wings and beers at, you know, the peanut and the Royals made the divisional rounds. So I think we're-- - That's a pretty good deal. - Yeah, regardless of what happens, I think we're both gonna be winners, so. - It's a good deal. - All right, well, for Cole Carmody, the best in the biz over at Go Power Cat, I think we dubbed you the most handsome guy over at Go Power Cat when you were on for Trivia. I'm sure some co-workers might take a little bit of brook runs with that, but hey, you know, whatever, I said it. - Appreciate it. - Oh, go ahead. - I appreciate it, you're the most handsome man at the Bosco's boys too. - I'm not because also for my dog, Chauncey, who is the best dog in the world.
