Our thanks again to Greg Chapper, managing editor, Dave Campbell's Texas football magazine for joining us in the program. Craig Wei, Cameron Parker, with you here on a vengeful, busy Thursday afternoon. Lots of stuff that happened in the Olympics today including that airtight victory for the U.S. men's basketball team, which found itself down 13 points in the fourth quarter. Trailed by as many as 15 in the game, they were still down 12 with seven minutes left and rallied back to win 95-91 Steph Curry at the bigger, the biggest of the game's 36 points in the contest, but LeBron James had a triple double in the game. Joel Embiid had a big game and Kevin Durant scored seven of his nine points down the stretch of course. You found a quote from KD that kind of sums it up about Team USA in the state of the United States. Yeah, KD was asked about playing for his country, playing for the USA. And his quote was, there's a lot of BS that happens in our country, but a lot of great things happen too. It's a great quote from Kevin Durant. And if I know Kevin, he didn't use the initials. No, he didn't. But he's right, you know, for all of the kind of goofy things that can happen in our country, it's great, it's great when things like that happen because it does kind of bring people together. Longwards head football coach Steve Sarkeesian is trying to bring his team together and get them ready for the coming season. And of course, you go through some adversity, like what they did with the loss of Cedric Baxter. So CJ, with the knee injuries out for the, you'll have to have surgery, he'll miss the entire season. Sarkeesian, Sarkeesian talked about the guys have to step up and do their job. He also mentioned, and this is from the department of keeping it real, he also mentioned, he goes, I hope I'm wrong about this, but this is probably not going to be the only injury we're going to have to deal with during that. So they have to, you know, get ready across the board no matter what happens for that. And he was, Sarkees a lot of times when you talk to him about the way that, not just the rules, a lot of guidelines that are laid out in policies and procedures about how college football is administered, you'll get some interesting thoughts from him. And sometimes he invokes the National Football League where he was an assistant. Obviously, he's been an assistant at a couple of places in the NFL. And he says, there's some things about the NFL that just, you know, there are a lot of things about the NFL that are not applicable to college football, but there are some things that are. And one of the things that he was asked about in his media availability this morning is the injury report, because if you have, you know, in the NFL, they have probable, questionable, doubtful, out, that kind of thing. Although we have found over time that it's kind of a sliding scale and there's a lot of gray area there. But Sarkees asks, is he in favor of that kind of thing where you could just say so-and-so was probable or so-and-so was questionable and not have to go into a grand, a great deal of explanation about the level of injury that the student athlete had? I am in favor of it. You know, I just think like the, the, and college football, there's so many cat and mouse games, you know, not that there isn't in the NFL, but the NFL, like I say it all the time, like, they've done the studies. They've done the research. They understand, you know, whether it's headset communication, whether it's instant replay, whether it's two minute warnings, like they do all that stuff for a reason. And so there's a reason that they have the injury report, right? And, and whether that's for the opponent, whether that's because now we don't have to worry about leaks out of our building and as it pertains to this, this new idea of online gambling and all the stuff that's going on out there, like, hey, this is where we're at. Here's who's out. Here's who's questionable. Here's who's probable. And, and we go from there. And, and again, and if you don't do it the right way, then, then find us. You know, then that's on us as coaches that we're not disclosing what needs to be disclosed. Yeah, that's pretty interesting. Just go ahead and, you know, put it on us to put them in the proper category, probable, questionable, doubtful, out, you know, whatever. And then if we don't go by, if we don't abide by that rule, then come after us, find us, deal with us. So, if we were to extrapolate that out further, if we were to take it a step further and go beyond the injury element and injury report would start, uh, be in a position where he would want to see college football adopt more, even other rules that come out of the NFL rulebook. Yeah, you know, all those things. I just think we're closing the gap on that. And I think in a weird way, sometimes they're closing the gap on us too. I think they're doing some different things in the NFL that is, that is coming a little closer to the college game. There are definitely a lot of rules and some intricate rules that are very different. The screen game is very different of when you can engage in blocks. Uh, the punt game, you know, you can't release down field until the ball has been punted. Uh, naturally two feet and bounds, you're not down until you get touched. You know, there's a lot of different rules. Um, again, all, all I'm saying is, as we, as we start to say, hey, we want to go down a certain path that then could look similar to the NFL. At that point, then I say, why don't we just adopt what the NFL is doing because they've already done the research on this stuff. And they know, if we're not concerned about going down that road, then keep our game the way it is. Interesting. All right. Interesting thoughts from Sark. We'll hear more from him tomorrow and more long-run player comments as well. And like we said, Texas heading a little bit closer toward their first scrimmage of the training camp. And that'll be Saturday morning inside of DKR, Texas Memorial Stadium, a close scrimmage there.
