You know, when people say that one of the things they look forward to most in the Olympics is the men's basketball team, because they look forward to winning gold and all that kind of stuff, I think what is probably even better. Well, it's kind of hard to say better than winning gold, but right up there with it is seeing the greatness of these guys once they're challenged, if they do indeed respond. And my goodness have they responded down 15 in the second half. Down, I think 12 in the fourth quarter, they've come back with an amazing furious run fueled by really four guys. Steph Curry started it and of late, he's come up with a couple of big, big shots of three-pointer to put him in front and then an old fascia three-point play. But Kevin Durant, LeBron James and Joel Embiid and watching those guys right now clamp down on defense, get rebounds and then get it out on the break and getting both old-fashioned three-point plays and knocking down threes. It's been amazing to watch. They were down 84-72 and right now Team USA is on a 19-2 run and they're up five of the minute 40 to go with Steph Curry. He having just knocked down a shot off transition afterwards. So this is the Team USA everybody talked about and they just forced a turnover as well. So it looks like and Kevin Durant had a lot to do with that. It looks like they're going to survive. It looks like it's not going to be easy, but it looks like fun when you see that. And when you see those guys, some of the best players in the world, really dialing and I know the cynics would say, well, why can't you do that for 40 minutes? Why can't you do that for 30 minutes and sometimes you can and sometimes you can't. But to see them do it down the stretch makes a huge difference. And right now they've got the ball with a five-point lead with 92 seconds to go. It's why we love sports, right? And especially the Olympics, because these athletes aren't really getting paid. They're not going to get paid when they're lost. They're doing this for free. They're doing this because they care. And we kind of saw it, at least I saw it with the men's golf competition where it's kind of been laughed at in the past about golf in the Olympics. And we've had comments of guys from guys like Roy McElroy, who at first didn't care about it, thought it was a joke. But then you watch it on Sunday, the back nine and you see these players are living and dying with every shot. You see Scottie Sheffler up on the podium crying during the National Anthem. These guys care and they love it. And it's so competitive, especially with basketball. You're seeing Katie and Curry and Steph, and they're just screaming after every play. They're living and dying, jumping for loose balls, boxing out all this type of stuff that you just love to see because they aren't getting a fat check when this game ends. Each American, by the way, it was revealed that wins a gold medal gets 38,000 hours. 38,000 dollars. LeBron spent that this morning at breakfast, right? Is that even enough for Sheffler to pace Catie 38 grand off of that? By the way, LeBron missed the three that really would have put distance between themselves. And now Serbia is trying to make a late push here under a minute to go with a three-point play opportunity with a foul on him beat on a bucket. So there's 56-8. So it's not done yet, but it was quite the turnaround. Let's hear from a couple of long-worn football players. Barron Sorrell, the long-worn defense man, first thing he had to talk about yesterday, if you were listening to the program, you heard Jayden Blue talk about his pickleball game. And as Cameron mentioned, today is national pickleball day. And Jayden said, "I played three games. I didn't lose any games." The rest of the guys may not be quite as convinced of that, including Barron Sorrell, who was asked about Blue's pickleball game. Yeah, man, he could play, man. I know I don't want to blow too much smoke up him, but he could play, man. Blue's a very confident person in everything he do, and that's a good thing. But he won a couple of games in pickleball, and I'll say that. It's about as much credit as he was going to be willing to give him off of that. Kevin Durant, by the way, just hit a huge jumper to put the Americans back up by four with half a minute to go after a three-point play. Pulled Serbia to within two, and then Nicola Yokech is coming right back with a bucket. So this is going to the final seconds with the U.S. holding on to a two-point lead right now, with 20 seconds to go in the game, 93-91 on top of Serbia. And there's about three seconds difference between the game and the shot clock right now, and they're going to put the ball in the hands, certainly of Curry. But Serbia is willing to play it out, and then Steph just flung up a shot, but they called a foul ahead of it. The shot went through, but it didn't count. But there's eight seconds left, and as Steph can hit both free throws, it puts him up four and would probably lock it away. All right, more from Baron Cerrell, talking about asked about Trey Moore, who's transferred into the program and is figuring in to be a big part of this defensive front. Just as willing as to work every day, he finds something to get better at. And since he got here, he's just been improving himself, and I'm excited to see what he does this year. Okay, so what's the biggest adjustment for these freshmen that are being asked to contribute to coming in to the college game, the youngsters that they have on here? The biggest thing is obviously what college the game just moves a lot faster in high school, especially the competition as well. Just in high school, you could do a lot of different things that you really might not have the time and time to do in college just because of the time of the game. So I'll just tell Colin and all of the young guys just to focus on their eyes and just get used to the speed of the game. By the way, if you didn't know, Baron Cerrell's nickname is "Freak." So the question's natural. Why does his teammates call him "Freak?" I guess just shout out to Coach Baker, putting in a lot of work with him. And I mean, just a lot of the work I put in on my own, just holding my craft at my speed, and then in the weight room as well. I guess those things are paid off. Does Cerrell have some specific goals for this coming season? Honestly, for me, it's just winning the national championship. I mean, that's my main thing, and I know if I obviously contribute to that, I know that everything individually I'll achieve as well. Okay, and then finally, there was a lot of the conversation about the hunger that this football team still has coming off the loss in the Sugar Bowl to Washington last year. And how would he describe that feeling of hunger in the locker room? It's the day-to-day thing. I mean, you don't just wake up one day and say you're hungry for it. You got to prove it every single day. I mean, there's only one team out of the whole country that is going to be able to stand up on that stage in the year, and it takes every day to find things to get better and be an attentive and meet and be an attentive and practice and just using those things to feel that hunger so that you can be a national champion at the end of the year. Okay, so there it is. We'll hear more tomorrow from Berenz-Rell. Speaking of the hunger, the U.S. did survive it. They do win 95-91 after trailing by 12 in the fourth quarter, trailing by 15 in the second half. They were down 11 at half. They were down 15 in the third. They were down 12 in the fourth quarter. Rally back, Steph Curry led the amazing charge for Team USA, I believe. Do you have 34 points, Kim? I believe you had 34 in a game. But, well, 36 points for all the 19 shooting, 9 of 14 from 3. He was big. Kevin Durant, who did not score in the first half, was also a big factor in that fourth quarter. Huge, defensively and offensively. A massive fourth quarter for Katie, for Steph, for LeBron. And NMB. Who really, I think, answered some critics the other day. He was getting... Charles Barkley was kind of diving into him. Yeah, his first three games in pole play weren't great, but his last two games, including this one, stepped up big time, especially against Yo-Kitch, who he's taken a lot of crap for the past two seasons when he's played against Yo-Kitch and what Yo-Kitch has done to him on both sides of the floor. So a huge game for NMB. Yeah, he went right at Yo-Kitch down the stretch. So Team USA survives. They win it 95-91. They're going to play France. And what is that? Two o'clock in the afternoon, looks like, on Sunday. Two 30-hour time. Two 30-hour time. It's at the 9.30 Paris time Sunday night for...or Saturday night, excuse me, for the gold medal. Saturday night. The bronze will be 4 o'clock in the morning, our time. So you can sleep through that. Don't worry about that. Serbia and Germany there. Women's Olympic volleyball final is at 6 o'clock Saturday morning. And that's for the gold medal game. But the U.S. with a huge rally to come from behind and win 95-91 over Serbia, they will play France for the gold medal on Saturday night. We'll be back to wrap up our number two on Sports Radio AM 13 under the zone. You slept through your alarm, missed the train, and your breakfast sandwich. Cool. Sounds like you could use some luck.
