Welcome to the Modern! Welcome back to the Twin Terrors, macabre manor of me, metal and mayhem. I'm Jody. And I'm James. Still drinking a... ... Wechl's Opeculiar, which is not the shame this is Opeculiar, but they're both based off of Opeculiar from Kingston. Yeah. Mm. I'm still drinking Guinness. Yeah. There you go. Now you know what? Episode. We just recorded. Maybe. Well, didn't we get the pin? Just depends on which one came out first, doesn't it? Uh-huh. And if they listen to both... Is there a possibility? Yes, but if not, why not? Go back and do it. Do it. Do it now. Well, he's gassing himself to a pop-hole super at the moment. Sorry. I actually don't know the song very well, but are Fred and Rob. Uh, one of the Robs, saying it in Little Shop of Horrors, where I was the puppeteers, so I remember the tune really well, but I don't know the words for Jack Shit. Really? Was that the name of the song? That was the name of the song. I don't know the words for Jack Shit. It's first written by the Rolling Stones, but they changed it to Jump and Jack Flash, because their producer said it wasn't gonna fly. [laughs] You tell us, does it fly? I'm bowing for no time. I was gonna say a rock. What? Your answer is not, not wrong. It's not, not wrong. It's not, not wrong. [laughs] And you can make a rock fly. Look at Billy Joel on the Glass House album. He's about to fly one pretty quick. That's, that's, that's a, yeah? Yeah, that's fair. That's fair. Speaking of flying, what is this wind speed? [laughs] Say, we have it. Okay. I was gonna say, let me rephrase what I was about to say. I haven't had enough to drink to be this goofy yet. Yeah, actually, I, I did stop by the pub earlier, but I had their, they have a lovely 3.5% on right now. It's really nice. So, you know, two of those is nothing, and that was quite a while back. So, I'm not even half done with my beer so far either. Okay. Just one of those things where we're, uh, oh, golly, we're hot tonight. [laughs] Mr. Haverisham. Mr. Haverisham. Over here, Mr. Haverisham. [laughs] Did I own you, Tony? [laughs] Anyway. Uh, yeah. Ooh, that's, uh, that's got a, well, man, I guess not. I guess next year will be its 45th anniversary. That's not really special. Yeah. We could do it, sure, but 45 is not more special than 44 to me, so. [laughs] Yeah. Okay. Moving on. Uh-huh. Which is a drink. Shall, shall be finishing up my vacation trip adventure over to Ireland and Scotland. 'Cause we've done several episodes where I've tried to combine it with information and actually make a real episode. Although I did do the one where I just talked about all the other shit and had funny, humorous, jocular, anecdotes to go with it. Yeah, uh-huh. Uh, but, the last one is just a roundup of the beers I had. Okay. I shan't give them all because that's kind of a pain, but I can say that in the 11 days I was there, two of which were travel, so, you know, had almost none in those days. I had 73 beers. That's a much smaller number than what I guessed. That's a much smaller number than everybody guessed. [laughs] I even told Jack and she's like, "Are you sure?" [laughs] True. It did seem like I had more, but 73 over a course of nine drinking days is, you know, eight a day. But you have to factor in walking and driving and the horseback riding and all the things we did. So, you know, if I just had a pub, oh yeah, I would have had more. But we did a lot. We did tours and, you know, up and down Loch Ness and drove all over the place. So, yeah. It wasn't bad, but I was actually sober the whole time for the most part. That's good. It is, especially since I was doing all the driving. [laughs] Oh, but the beers were so good. You know, I'll just say that I had, out of those 19 in the bottle, 34 of draft, but I had 20 beautiful, beautiful cascales. Hmm. Cascale. [laughs] Have you mentioned those? I don't think you've mentioned those. Oh, do you want me to talk about it a little bit more? [laughs] No, sorry. [laughs] But the love of God, Montreser, brick me up, I'm tired of listening to motherfucking cascales. [laughs] So, knowing that I did have one zero ABV because it was, it's in the app that shall not be named, but when you go to the Guinness storeroom, you can't actually get Guinness clear, which is actually just water, but it's, it's in the, it's in the, the app that shall not be named. So I guess if you want to remove that one, because it's kind of cheating a bit, I had 72, but still, but you want to, want to guess at my lowest ABV? Um... Probably three something. Mostly there, I had one that was 2.4. 2.4? Okay. Okay. Yes, the lightest of light beers. I think it even falls below a table beer, but I, I won't get into that. But yeah, then, then it goes up to 3.5, 3.6, 7, 8, 9, 4. Pretty much 4.1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Not a 6, but 7, 8, and 5, 5, 1, 5. You know, the way up to a 7.3 was the highest I had. Huh. Okay. I mean, out of the 73, only one, two, three, four, eight of them, plucked at 6% or higher. Hmm. But considering a shit ton of these beers were Guinness. [laughs] Yeah. [laughs] So yeah, these are 73 new beers, but they, they were there. So, so, wait, wait, how many different types of beer did you have? Well, if you want to know different types of beer, I have my list right here too. This was the one I wasn't going to go through, but sure. Are you ready? Uh-huh. Better best, better session ordinary, Blonde Golden Ale English, Blonde Golden Ale other, Brown Ale other, Dark Ale, Immute and Free, American IPA, an English IPA, New England Hazy IPA, another IPA, a Rye IPA, a session IPA, American Lager, a pale Lager, non-alcoholic beer, American Pale, an English Pale Ale, another Pale Ale, an English Porter, an Irish Red Ale, another Red Ale other, Rye Beer, a Schwartz Beer, a Scotch Ale. We Heavy had a few of those. Actually, I had several bitters in there, quite a few of those, several Blonde, several sessions, a few Scotch Ale's, a couple Scottish Ale's, the Scottish Export Ale. [laughs] A Smoke Beer, one English style stout, and 17 dry Irish styles. [laughs] Gee, I wonder what that last one could have possibly been? [laughs] Yeah, mostly rated pretty good. Lowest rating was 3.25, you know, not all of them are great, but for the most part, the bulk of them were four or higher, all the way up to quite a few fives, and I did give one. I couldn't do it on the at-the-shop, but not be named, but I gave it to myself in my head. I gave the Worlds End Bitter at the Worlds End in Edinburgh, 5.25. [laughs] Nice. [laughs] Oh, so good, I had one Cornwall Beer, five from England, one from Northern Ireland, 36 from Scotland. Okay. And then a 30 from the Republic of Ireland, you know, out of which several of those were Guinness, but then I had others too. I did have a nice selection of Irish and Scottish beers. Cool. [laughs] Then I broke it down by country of imbibing. I had four in Northern Ireland. [laughs] They're 39 in Scotland and 30 in the Republic of Ireland. So, you know, the fact that we spent one extra day in Scotland and we did the Republic of Ireland kind of makes them about evenish for daily intake. Okay. Mmm, daily intake. Of course, I also have them rated by country of origin with the lowest being Northern Ireland. It's one beer I had, was 3.75. Okay. So, you know, not bad. Highest rated was Republic of Ireland at 4.6, but that's because Guinness is the epitome of Irish stout, so as long as you get a good pour of it, it's always going to rate you high. Yeah. The Scotland, Scotland ranked up there at 4.25 in English beers at 4.35. The Cornwall at 4.5. Oh, there are good beers. Cool. By the way, these average ratings were statistically significant. Okay. I might have done a non-permetric test, but the PIVA at 0.0146. [laughs] That just means there's a difference in there, more than likely that Northern Ireland low rating kind of hurt a little bit. Yeah. How many beers did you have for Northern Ireland? I had four in Northern Ireland, but this one was a brewery from Northern Ireland. Okay. So, that was amazingly, I don't think I actually have that, which one it was. I'd have to look it up, but I'll look it up later and tell you, but I don't want to call anybody out on the podcast. Right. Yeah. Yeah. I just, I'm guessing that, you know, maybe you just had a small sample size of mirrors from Northern Ireland and that's why they, you know, work maybe as rated highly. Oh, totally agree. That's very possible. I'd probably actually throw it out of a normal analysis, but it's only one I have. And I mean, the one from Cornwall was good, but it maybe was just good and the rest of the time. Who knows? But yeah, yep. Totally agree. This would not be something I would publish in a scientific paper unless I threw those two out. Okay. But I couldn't really find more. Northern Ireland didn't really like, there weren't many places I could get a beer from the Northern Ireland brewery where we were at. So. Okay. I was kind of amazed I got a Cornwall beer up in Scotland. Yeah. But I did also look at these by removing the Guinness because those are always rated high. And it did take it down a little bit so the Republic of Ireland dropped a little bit to 4.14 just underneath Scotland and England and Cornwall. Okay. But it's also unfair because Cascales were mostly the English and Scottish and those always very high. Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. For example, I rated Cascales if I remove the Guinness from the list, you know, as I should. Cascales have an average of 4.425. A little higher than my draft sales of 4.15 and the bottles I had at 4.09. Okay. Okay. But Cascales are magnificent bastards and they deserve to be rated highly. And it was significant at 0.0060 p value. That doesn't mean that they caused me to pee. That's the probability of the being different just by random chance because they happen to pick these beers. I knew that's not what it meant, but you know that's where I was going with it, right? That's thought I'd head you off at the pass. You know, while you're on your horse, the horse that you just wanted to go see a man about because you had to pee. Oh, golly, we are hot tonight. Oh, yeah. I had my little list of ABVs and, you know, if I was making this list, if I went across Colorado or Indiana or California and I tried 73 beers, you know, or let's say, let's say 50 because, you know, you remove the Guinness that are. You remove the Guinness that are repeated in there. So 55 beers, whatever it is. I've been in America. The average ABV would probably be six or seven even. Probably, yeah. I mean, I'll say six, but I don't know. But when I look at my average ABVs, Cascales only 4.4. Drafts are only 4.2 and the bottles were just the weep it over five at five point, not five. Okay. That's, I love them. Oh, you can drink a thousand of them and not be drunk. Um, I'm going to say your mask probably on on that. What? Words that apparently I can't say right now. Oh, it doesn't change much if I remove the Guinness because they all have the same ABV. The draft still say their drafts in the cask are both 4.3 something, 4.33, 4.38. Okay. So it was a, it was a lovely time of non significant, by the way. They were, they were lovely 73 beers. So when my wife says you drink half of Ireland, she's horribly exaggerating. I had 73 beers the whole damn time. It just felt like it to her. Well, that's what I felt like with my ass on that horse bouncing up and down in the Scottish Highlands, having my hemorrhoids get shoved further. No. Okay. It wasn't. It was fun. The horse ride was really fun. I've talked about that. I don't have hemorrhoids somehow because I think I get up and move around instead of sitting at my desk all day. It's a, it's a good time. And I do not think I have the beers in here from the airport on the way out and stuff because these were beers like actually in the countries. Cool. Cool. Yeah. I count those. It probably gets up to 75, 76, but it's fine. It was good. I just, I just thought I'd do a roundup of the range of ABV and the styles that you asked about and in Cascale. Have I talked about Cascale? Um, I don't know. Seems like maybe, but I'm not sure. Hey, well, should I talk about him more? Um, do we have time? No, I guess you're right. Yeah. Like that's ever stopped us. I should have said there's always time for Cascale. You would not be wrong. Oh, I don't know if I told you this, uh, speaking of Cascales and in the food, I think I mentioned the fish and chips. I don't know if it's in a, that the episode or just to you, but when I got back, had the best fish and chips over there, you know, fish at one, chips in another, my favorite fish and chips in the Indianapolis area, sent the broader purple brew pup. Yeah. Oh, yeah. Love it. I went there, I waited three weeks after I got back to go try it because I knew it was going to be, it's going to be disappointing, no matter how good it is, because it wasn't what I had over there. Right. Yeah. Yeah. And I was, I was not wrong. It's still the best in the area, but I was still sadly disappointed and that's funny. That's funny. In a way. Not so much funny, haha, but, but, but I also had their Cascale because it's one of the few places you can get a Cascale in my local area and it wasn't the creamy, wonderful goodness of the Cascales in Scotland. What? Disappointing. Yeah, but I'll keep trying. Okay. Ooh, I guess I have an addendum to the overall trip episode. Okay. And we have an episode out there, I forget what it's called, but it's kind of based off of a podcast called Moon Underwater, which is based off of Vinald or Well, as say he wrote, that I actually had kind of, when I say ripped off to do newspaper article 15 years ago or so, I gave credit so I didn't steal it. I said, Hey, this is where it's from, but this is what I would do. Yeah. But, but that episode, the podcast Moon Underwater, I wrote into him about my trip and they actually read the, they read my letter and they actually said that they're impressed with their listeners because we actually write really well compared to other podcasts and it wasn't, they mentioned after they read mine, but they mentioned it several other times. The people who write in for the, for this one are good, but I loved it because I explained the food and when I had meat pies from a gas station and the things we did and they're like, that's really awesome because most Americans don't actually come over and know what it's like to do these things. I tried, I had petrol station meat pies and I had a Sunday roast and I mean, I could pull it up because I haven't saved on my phone and play it, but that just seems ridiculous. Instead, I'm willing to also say I'm good, but did you have anything my good, sir, any more questions or thoughts or things? No, I got nothing, good because you'll like it, I was trying to figure out how to work that into it. So she said, I got nothing and I like it. On that note, since we're both good, I am 73 Beers James. I am not yet drunk, Jody. Well, sadly, I'm not drunk James, but when I'm done recording, I may fix that by having a different beer again. Well, another beer, okay. We should go do that and tell people to write us and review us and rate us and, and do the things and follow us on the social medias and stuffs. Yeah, I think you just did that. Oh, well, in that case, we're done. Yeah. Hey, so we did the one thing, so we're going to do the other thing and say we'll talk to y'all later. Bye. The macabre manners brought to you by the twin terrors. All rights reserved, stay tuned for some fun outfits. It's falling. Maybe they're not laughing with you. Let's just humor the old man. You know, it's been going on for a while now and they still sit next to me when I'm there first. So even if they're laughing at me, we're all having a good time.
