Remember this, folks, when we are useful, we are useful, and when we are useless, we are fucking useless, a very pleasant good morning to you on the 8th day of August 2024. I did come out with a daily hustle this morning, I fired it out on the treadmill when I woke up this morning and I figured out that it was, of course, National Pickleball Day! So I figured it was worthy of calling attention to that. The email that went out, and by the way, if you are not signed up for the daily hustle electronic email communications, go to ericburns.com, and I believe there is a sign-up link there. I don't know. Anyhow, if you are one of the 18 to 20,000 people that are so lucky to be able to get this, good on you. It's always worth sharing as well. Okay, well, let's see us today, it's Thursday, August 8, 2024, it just so happens to be National Pickleball Day. Pickleball was created in 1965 by a couple of buddies on a family vacation trying to entertain themselves and their families. They had access to a badminton court, but no, shuttlecock. Yeah, that's the word. No, shuttlecock! Oh, the inner 12-year-old of me, yes, I'm not even sure it's called a shuttlecock, it should be a shuttlecock, I don't know, it's a birdie. That's it. So they decided to experiment with different rackets and balls before settling on a whiff of ball and ping-pong paddles, and send the paddles and the rules as well as the sport have evolved into one of the most entertaining, competitive, and intellectual and socially welcoming sports that I've ever played, to no one's surprise, who has played the game at a relatively high level for multiple years now, pickleball reigns as he fastest growing sport in the world. But also, just so happens to be on the list of racket sports, including tennis and ping-pong, that is said to potentially increase lifespan by up to 10 years. Daily hustle quoted today, "A man must not deny his manifest abilities, for that is to evade his obligations." I really like this word. That's William Feather, he was a author, read about him this morning a little bit before I drop quotes of say somebody like a William Feather, I like to do a little research, but he wrote several books, I believe wrote for the Chicago Tribune, lived from the 1880s to the 1980s. So lived a very long life, William Feather, double sky point, we salute you. Daily hustle translation. We're all given different talents at birth. We then spend our lives developing those talents and ideally come close to fulfilling our potential through a commitment to excellence and the arduous work that will allow us to achieve it. Ultimately, our duty as human beings is to do everything in our power to leave this world better than we found it, by providing value through our trained skills, as well as our relentless positive words and actions. It's not our right, it's our fucking obligation. See on the courts, E.B. All right, so there that was. How cool that, you know, here's something that was created in 1965, I felt like it gained popularity in the 80s, even though I didn't know what the fuck it was, but it made a little bit of a run then and then right around COVID is when pickleball picked up everywhere and the reason being is that they were shutting down public parks. So what a lot of people did was actually, Hey, let's do this in our driveway. So they came up with makeshift pickleball courts and I think a whole new generation of pickleball players was born. Okay, last night, I sat down and watched the Olympics for an extended period of time, which I haven't really done. I don't usually sit down for that long, but all I could say is that it was fucking awesome in every sense of the world, of the world, of the world and the word. So the big one that I saw here though, was Quincy Hall. This dude was electric. Let's go over the article and then I'll give you my free flowing thoughts. Quincy Hall became the latest American to electrify the Olympic track and field with his out of nowhere comeback on Wednesday night, sprinting from far behind in the 400 meters to really in three runners and capture the gold medal hall buried in fourth place as the runners rounded the last bend. He outran the runner on his outside, then two more on the inside to cross the line and 43.40 seconds. The fourth fastest time ever, Britain's Matthew Hudson Smith took silver fishing 43.44 seconds in Missoula, Samu Kanga of Zambia, one bronze finishing in 43.74 seconds. Hall celebrated his improbable comeback by collapsing on the track and making snowing. I've got determination, Hall said. That's what got me to that line. A lot of hurt, a lot of pain. Hall's the first American since LaShawn Maron 2008 to capture the gold in the one lap race. His victory came and even after American Cole Hawker came from behind to beat the favorites in the men's 1500, all the 26 year old who breeds dogs and loves riding horses. This is the most interesting man in the Olympics. He really is. Looked out of the running in a race that's all about pace. Okay, let me try this again. Hall, the 26 year old who breeds dogs and loves riding horses, looked out of the running in a race that's all about pace and more often than not, the problem is going too fast. Too soon, he was five meters behind Hudson Smith and 2012 champion Kirari James, both to his left as a round of the final curve and he was making a ground on Jareem Richards to his outside for what looked like would be a good battle for bronze. By the end, James and Richards were after thoughts. Hall was thrusting his chest at the line to beat the Brit and Samu Kanga had also come from out of nowhere to take third. The new champs reaction when he crossed the line quote, "I just won, it's over. Next four years, I can say, I'm an Olympic." My dad works in B2B marketing. He came by my school for career day and said he was a big row as man, then he told everyone how much he loved calculating his return on ad spend. My friends still laughing at me to this day. Not everyone gets B2B, but with LinkedIn, you'll be able to reach people who do. And $100 credit on your next ad campaign, go to linkedin.com/results to claim your credit. All right, this dude quit to y'all. So if you haven't seen him and you didn't watch the race, the 400 is one of the most growing fucking races at the Olympics. The reason being, it's one lap, Bullson sprint. So Hall, it was from Kansas City and they showed his family and friends and everybody. Very eclectic mix of people watching from Kansas City was awesome. And he went to University of South Carolina. He's got a full fucking grill of gold teeth. It was happened. So here he is chasing gold, right? Michael Johnson had the gold shoes, Hall's got the gold teeth. And he comes around what looks like this final turn, and he's fucking done. He's just done. You're like, dude, he's gasping for air. That teeth, they're out like, yeah, he's got a big old underbite looking like a bulldog. And it's just, man, you're feeling for him because it looked like he wanted it so badly, but his body just went deliver. And then it was like he was shot out of a fucking cannon, man. One runner, he passes another runner, he passes another runner, he passes another runner, he passes and then snow angels on the ground. Quincy Hall. Fuck. Yeah, man. We salute you, dude. Nice work. Really, really, really fun to watch. Okay. One more thing I want to get into before we go here, the steeple chase. It's obviously a race that's not going to get a lot of love. I think it was, let's say we'll figure out how far it was, but they only showed the last three laps of it. It's 3,000 meters. So what, 1500 is one mile, it's like two miles. And there was a kid from BYU that basically shocked the world. And in the last three laps, Kenneth Brooks is this little white dude amongst all of these elite looking distance runners, right? And he's in the back of the pack and he's that kid that's just trying to hang on like, hey, guys, wait for me, wait for me. And he's there and they're hopping over these hurdles and you're landing in water and the kids just getting splashed and say, guys, guys, don't forget about me. And he's trying to keep up and he's trying to keep up and then all of a sudden they get to the last lap in Rux, coach out of nowhere to the outside and he fucking takes the lead. And now he's a little kid and he's going, he's going, he's going, and he gets a sizable lead and these other guys, these elite professional runners, the best of the world, they're like, oh fuck. And so they're chasing him down, chasing him down, chasing him down, well, they finally catch up to him, one dude takes the lead. But Rux holds on for silver and what was one of the most dramatic finishes to any race that I've ever watched in my life. So Kenneth Brooks, the kid from BYU, congratulations, man. He did us proud. That's some pre-fond taint shit right there. Taking that lead and the last lap, just really cool, really, really enjoyed those two things. And then lastly here, Bobby Wood Jr., I talked about him the other night, but this dude is so next level. He literally is making the claim of being the best player and baseball. And I'm not even sure how close it is. You can say Aaron Judge is the best hitter. I'll listen to that argument. But not only is Bobby Wood Jr. hitting 340 something and his credible 25 game streak. But this guy's doing it in the clutch. He's doing it to help the Kansas City. Royals actually be relevant this season. He's one of the best defensive short stops in all of the big leagues. He runs the bases like a fucking savage. He's one of the fastest dudes in all of baseball. This night, Bobby Wood Jr., two, not one, but two homers. And then of course, the MVP chance came raining down and well deserved. I got people out here this morning, but I want to fire on here and put those free flowing thoughts out there.
