What's up North America I'm Dave DeBaugh and welcome to the underrated pod I cannot and yeah I don't know if you can hear my dog Barkin in the background can't believe I'm about to do this but we are going to do a video on one J.J. McCarthy he has actually been performing extremely well coming out of Minnesota Vikings training camp we're gonna play some video for you here in just a second I swear my dog is just barking you just can't believe I'm doing this J.J. McCarthy video that being said I do want to thank everybody out there for all of your support on the underrated if you haven't subscribed yet please go and subscribe and of course like this video 1 million plus views over the last 12 months thanks so much for your support all right here's the J.J. McCarthy video 15 seconds of this and I'm back with some bots so look I know we're just about a week into NFL training camps and yeah I hate to like speculate but I mean word out of Minnesota is that J.J. McCarthy has actually looked pretty good we're running some footage of him at training camp yesterday and you can tell that J.J. McCarthy certainly has a strong enough arm to actually be successful in the National Football League at least successful at a Minnesota Viking training camp and I hate to get to the point where we're starting to like overreact this early into the National Football League preseason but when you think about what the Minnesota Vikings actually did moving all the way up to get J.J. McCarthy and how much they gave up to get J.J. McCarthy they certainly are not in the world of not wanting to actually be able to play J.J. McCarthy now being a starting quarterback especially as a rookie in the National Football League there's different levels and degrees of it I mean we saw what CJ Stroud did last year which was just totally impressive now the difference between the Houston Texans team and this year's Minnesota Vikings team is pretty dramatic in that at least on paper when the season's gonna start the Vikings appear to be you know more loaded than the Houston Texans appeared to be at the start of last season when CJ Stroud actually took over as the starting quarterback for the Texans so you can't really compare apples and oranges but we do know what happened to the Houston Texans and that is a great quarterback as we all know can absolutely without a doubt make a difference for a football team I mean I'm based here in the Bay area and I know the national media has never been on the Brock Purdy ride and nor have I been but I have to say you know one of the things that Brock Purdy does extremely well is he actually reads defense as well and he makes adjustments when he needs to make him he is absolutely beyond smart enough to be a great quarterback in the National Football League now JJ McCarthy actually has a better arm than a Brock Purdy does and word out of Minnesota has been that JJ McCarthy is actually doing a really good job picking up the complicated Kevin O'Connell offense I mean look Brock Purdy's got to pick up the Kyle Shanahan offense and nobody has ever said that's a simple offense to pick up so when I look at what's actually going on and if you read between the lines I saw that Kevin O'Connell interview yesterday on the NFL network on their inside training camp and I heard JJ actually talk about JJ in an interview as well I think there's a lot of people who are in that front office and a lot of people inside that Minnesota Viking organization that believe I think that JJ McCarthy is actually ahead of schedule now they went out and got San Clemente's very own Sam Darnold to be their starting quarterback and Sam Darnold is the epitome of what a deer in the headlights actually looks like at quarterback as more arm talent than I think just about anybody I've ever seen play quarterback but he can't make adjustments he has a hard time actually reading defenses and you cannot be a successful starting quarterback in the National Football League with those actual traits I mean that is sort of the bottom line so Kevin O'Connell actually said yesterday that he thought JJ McCarthy is actually going to get some more reps with the first team and he did yesterday and we played some footage of what he actually did with it look JJ McCarthy is according to the staff in Minnesota the first person in in the last person out according to a staff in Minnesota everybody and all the players absolutely love him if you will JJ McCarthy has it and that it factor might just carry him actually into this starting lineup for game one of this year's National Football League season now look we haven't seen him play yet in preseason so it is premature but when you start actually reading between the tea leaves in Minnesota you can start to understand that JJ McCarthy at this point I would say has a 50-50 chance of actually being the Viking starting quarterback on day one all right North America thanks so much for tuning in to the underrated pod for the underrated I am Dave DeBau wishing you all a tremendous rest of your sports viewing day till the guitar reps we go you've been listening to the underrated podcast with Dave DeBau presented by underrated media you
