What's up North America, I'm Dave Dibaugh and welcome to the NFL Late Night Show on the underrated pod. Seriously, talk about a mouthful. On tonight's show though, we are going to talk about a good old Jordan Love who did the absolute correct thing today, at least in my opinion by telling the Green Bay Packers that he is not going to report to training camp until a new contract is officially signed. I absolutely love that stance. We're going to talk about that on tonight's show as well as good old Aaron Rodgers. I swear Aaron Rodgers has to have the best PR people in the National Football League. His name is literally in the news every other day. A lot of times his name is in the news for something that happened months before and they just continue to get publicity out of it. Anyways, this particular time, Aaron Rodgers starts to talk about and I quote, deceiving words. That's right deceiving words from Aaron Rodgers of all people. You know, the guy who took a vaccine shot but didn't take a vaccine shot, has some thoughts on the New York Jets and deceiving words. We're going to get into that as well as to us contract which appears to not be getting as close to done as I'm sure to would like. I've got all of that and a whole lot more on the big show tonight. Now I should say we are recording super late night. It is Monday, July 22nd just in front of 10 p.m. on the West Coast. Some other news and notes from around your National Football League before we get into our stories. Super quick. Jonathan Owens from the Chicago Bears safety has been told by the Bears that it's okay for him to actually go to the Paris Olympics so he can hang out with his wife Simone Miles. The Bengals owner, I have two Bengals stories, super quick. Bengals owner Mike Brown says they will try hard to extend receiver Jamar Chase. Hey, I'm sure Jamar Chase's camp is basically thinking try harder Mike Brown. And then there's Joe Burrow who has officially been cleared for contact. Now that's not a surprising piece of news at all. But it was one of the main stories in the National Football League so far. Look, things are really going to heat up as training camps really open up throughout your National Football League this week. And we end up in full motion. One last story that I have to bring up because it's just absolutely ridiculous. And that's a Carderius Tony takes part in running back thrills at Chiefs camp this week. Look, if you are in the National Football League and you are, I guess a president or a general manager or you have anything to do with player personnel moves. I pretty much guarantee within the next four weeks, Carderius Tony is going to be available. Look, I don't like to, you know, make predictions about people getting cut and stuff like that. But to think that they can convert Carderius Tony from a wide receiver into a running back when he has all of those ball control problems is hard for me to believe. Assuming there are no major injuries or setbacks with any of the young wide receivers in the Kansas City Chiefs camp, I fully anticipate that there will be. I don't want to say a bit anymore, but Carderius Tony is going to be available. And I'm sure somebody will pick him up because everybody thinks they can solve wide receiver drop problems and wide receiver fumble problems. And I certainly hope that Carderius Tony gets back on his feet. But I mean, seriously, to put that guy in at a running back position. I don't know. I mean, it's asking an awful lot. Alright, on to our main three stories of the day, we are going to start with, of course, Jordan love. Then we'll talk a little to and then we'll wrap things up with with the deceiving words man himself, Mr. Aaron Rogers. Now, the Jordan love hold out today. The Packers came out as well as loves agent came out and basically said, Hey, look, we're we're close to getting a deal done. So I believe based on everything I've heard coming out of Green Bay as well as loves camp that a deal is actually going to get done here very quickly. What I don't understand is why it's taken so long. I mean, like you're either going to pay somebody or you're not going to pay somebody. These national football league teams, and I don't care if they're community owned or not, still think that they're running their franchises like they did back in the 1980s and the 1990s. You know, when it was perfectly acceptable to hold football players to the Coles to the point where some of them would actually have to hold out and not actually start the season. We saw this actually happened last year with the Kansas City Chiefs and their great defensive player. It is ridiculous. Look, do you have another option at quarterback Green Bay? Do you have somebody else that is going to do what Jordan love did last year during that 10 game stretch towards the end of the season? Is there another quarterback on your team that can go into the Dallas Cowboys in a playoff game? Into Dallas into the home of America's team and dominate? Look, this is absolutely ridiculous that a deal wasn't done before. I understand that the Packer organization just wanted to see how the how the excuse me, how the market would actually play out. But how the market played out was pretty simple. Look, Trevor Lawrence, who is so overrated. It's not even funny as getting paid. It almost as much as God is. And then there's Jared Goff, who's making 53 million dollars a year. Like, if you think Jordan love is at that Jared Goff or near that Jared Goff number, then just pay him. Get it over with. Why would you want the distractions Green Bay? Which takes me to to him. And I can pretty much say the same thing. Now, Adam Schefter reports it a little earlier in the day, basically saying that that they're pretty far apart and where they're pretty far apart. I don't think it's necessarily on the numbers. Like, how much is to a going to make per year? Sure, a million here, a million there. I'm sure there's still some negotiations going on on that front. But the issue here is health. The issue here is to us health. And the issue that the Miami Dolphins organization is clinging to is that they're going to be able to somehow not have to guarantee a large portion of to us contract. Now, if you're going to eventually sign to a, and you're going to eventually pay him something close to what he wants to make, then get it done already. If you're not going to pay him and you're not willing to take that risk, then as an organization, the Miami Dolphins should have gone out and got themselves another one or two quarterbacks to take over for two. Look at the end of the day, I feel bad for two. I feel bad that he's had all those injuries. Now, last year, you did not have any major injuries. And there's something to be said about maturing as a player in the national football league. You learn when to slide. You learn when to release a ball. You learn how not to take hits. To has actually gotten significantly better. So why are the Miami Dolphins continuing to play the guaranteed money card? And the reason they're doing that is they don't want to sign to a, to a long-term contract. Now, I think they're willing to risk three years of guaranteed money. But I think anything beyond that might be asking too much. Regardless of where they are at, if the Dolphins want to have a good season, they are going to have eventually have to pay to. If they want to throw their season away, then they are going to not pay to what he's ultimately looking for. Like, I don't understand these negotiations at all. Ultimately, these teams end up having to pay. It makes no sense. I said this about Jordan Love, but it just makes no sense to actually play this kind of negotiation game in the year 2024. It just makes no sense, North America. All right. And then finally today, good old Aaron Rogers, you know, seriously, honestly, like one of the best PR companies must work with Aaron Rogers, because his name is constantly in the news. In fact, his name is in the news so often that it's actually repeat news. In other words, we are talking today about something that happened well over a month ago during OTAs. You remember when Aaron Rogers left OTAs a little bit early and Salah went in front of the press conference, went in front of the press and had a little bit of a press conference basically saying that that Rogers had skipped out and was wasn't there for the last couple days of OTAs. Well, Aaron Rogers, as we all know, went to Egypt, had a vacation plan. And his big issue with the Jets is that they decided to run OTAs during part of the time that he had already booked his Egyptian vacation. Now, I don't know the details. I don't know if Rogers got to spend a night in a pyramid with no electricity. I mean, it's the kind of thing you think Rogers would want to do, right? But I don't know exactly what it was, but Rogers decided screw it. I'm not going to change my plans. So Aaron earlier in the day and part of my take, the part of my take podcast said the following. Okay, they can arbitrarily put a tag on whatever week of OTAs they want and say this is a mini camp week, which makes it somehow more mandatory than the other weeks. Rogers said, but it was an OTA schedule. That's how words can be a little deceiving from time to time. Look, Aaron Rogers wanted to talk about deceiving words. Do you remember the whole COVID vaccination thing with Aaron Rogers? Look, I'm not trying to get political here on whether or not you should have taken the vaccine shot or not. What you shouldn't do is lie about whether or not you did it. Now, Rogers used his very own version of deceiving words to deceive the entire National Football League into believing that he had actually taken a real vaccine. Now, I don't know about you, but in Rogers, what two and a half years at the University of California, Berkeley, I'm pretty sure he didn't walk away with any kind of doctorate. Now, maybe somebody's given him an honorary doctorate at this point, but I'm pretty sure he's not a scientist, not somebody that really can actually go out and figure out how to create a vaccine for a new virus that just popped onto the scene. Like, Aaron Rogers was able to create his own version of a vaccine when nobody else could do it. Look, it is ridiculous. Billions of dollars were actually spent by the pharmaceutical companies to come up with the vaccine that they came up with, to come up with the shots that everybody or a lot of people took to help protect them from the COVID virus. This is an absolutely ridiculous, typical Aaron Rogers story I have to say. Look, what is Aaron Rogers going to do for the New York Jets this year? Look, the Jets organization is just a mess. I mean, it just is. Let's just face it. Robin Salah, as much as I like him, is most likely going to be on the unemployment line by the end of the year. Aaron Rogers, the Aaron Rogers experiment with the New York Jets is probably going to end just like the bread farm experiment with the New York Jets. Like, when will the Jets learn? Like, when Jordan Love is coming in towards the end of his career, how much do you want to bet that the New York Jets top priority is going to be giving Jordan Love $80 million a year to actually be their quarterback is ridiculous. Look, if you look at the Jets roster, I'm just going to say this, it's not as good as they think it is. And I'll leave it at that.
