what's up North America I'm Dave Dabaugh and thanks so much for tuning into tonight's episode of the underrated pod hey listen it is a interesting evening nonetheless there was an absolutely horrific national anthem saying I'm not gonna play it for you but it happened at the Major League Baseball home run Derby check it out when you have a chance but tonight's topic is really all about the fact that Skip Bayless is officially gone from FS1 the undisputed TV show that Skip Bayless has been hosting for the last eight years is gone some people are calling this a bombshell I am not calling this a bombshell look the writing was on the wall it is as surprising to me as when Russell Wilson was actually let go by Sean Payton and the Denver Broncos there is absolutely no surprise at all when you look at what went down with Skip Bayless over the last three years it is somewhat shocking so to speak that he was actually still on the air at Fox Sports now let's talk about what really matters the most here now yes there are those people that absolutely love Skip Bayless there are those people that love to hate Skip Bayless and then there are those people that refuse to watch Skip Bayless there are three buckets involving Skip Bayless the problem is the bucket that that houses of the people that refuse to watch Skip Bayless has actually grown significantly over the last couple years so much so that it affected the ratings to a point when in June during a period of June this past June just literally last month they had ratings hovering just over 56,000 people tuning into a show to watch Skip Bayless look I know lots of people who are on YouTube who jump on and do their live broadcasts and get more than 56,000 people to tune into those so for FS1 to actually say hey it's a good idea to bring Skip Bayless back just off of the ratings alone was a foregone conclusion that that wasn't going to happen. Skip Bayless is in the process of wrapping up a four-year 32 million dollar deal with Fox Sports the article the New York Post actually broke the story a little bit earlier in the day and they basically said in the article that Skip will finish off this summer at some point with his last show it also left the room open or the door open so to speak for somebody else to take over the seat now I don't know what the team over at Fox Sports is going to do what I do know is they absolutely are going to want to have a show there whether or not it's called undisputed that is a story I guess for a later day now in terms of Skip Bayless where did it all go wrong for him well it went wrong in a lot of places over the last couple years but before we get into where it went wrong for Skip I think we should give him actually a little bit of credit now Skip Bayless you could almost call him the godfather if you will of a round table sports talk on television we know what he did over at ESPN and eventually turned it turned what he was working on over at ESPN into first take which certainly was pretty successful while Skip Bayless was there the problem with Skip Bayless over the years has been he's taken some opinions that quite frankly were a little too far off the wall the problem with Skip Bayless over the last couple years certainly has been that he seems to think he's bigger than the network he's actually on when the ratings certainly did not dictate that take a look at Stephen A Smith who's over at at ESPN right now reportedly ESPN offered him $18 million and we did a story on this and he's gone back to ESPN asking for more money Stephen A Smith career has actually been going on a hockey stick trajectory while Skip Bayless's career since he joined Fox Sports business has been on a slow steady decline any chance of undisputed actually hanging in competitively against first take was completely vanished and washed away last year when Shannon Sharp decided to leave look Shannon Sharp has been so successful since he left it's not even funny we know his club Shae Shae show had already taken off while he was on Fox Sports but he's taken it to a completely different level and we also know that after a year on the air at ESPN it was even less than a year the folks over at ESPN renewed his contract I think it was for another four years ultimately the downfall if you were to point to anything you could certainly point to the fact that Shannon Sharp decided to bail on Skip Bayless now why did Shannon Sharp decide to bail on Skip Bayless well the answer to that question is is pretty easy and you can go back and look at the Lamar Hamlin night and it was that night that tweet that Skip Bayless put out that caused so much disruption for Shannon Sharp to the point where Shannon Sharp took a day off refused to go on the air with Skip Bayless the next morning came back on the day after that and tried to get Skip Bayless to apologize for his tweet which of course Skip Bayless refused to do now if you go back and you read that tweet you might think it's sort of harmless but if you look at it in the context of what had just happened on the football field it was if you will a heartless tweet I mean I can't believe I'm saying this who thought in college I would be saying heartless tweet that being said Skip Bayless certainly did not read the room correctly when he should have actually owned up for his mistake and he never did it because he was stubborn and it was that stubbornness that basically drove Shannon Sharp to leave now where now a report came out about six months ago basically saying that Foxports wasn't gonna renew Shannon Sharp contract and they were just showing him the door look they weren't showing him the door Skip Bayless was showing him the door because at the time that Shannon Sharp left Skip Bayless still had a significant amount of power over at Foxports which by the way he has absolutely no power now which is why he is leaving Foxports but let's be honest with each other for a second Skip Bayless isn't failing on Foxports Foxports is bailing on Skip Bayless that is exactly what's happening here remember it was a four-year 32 million dollar contract which is running its course it's about to be over and Foxports simply is not going to renew the deal now in terms of where does this leave Skip Bayless going forward now as I mentioned there are three buckets involved in Skip Bayless and there's certainly a place for Skip Bayless in the sports media landscape where that will be I'm not sure when they'll be an announcement about where he'll land I'm not sure I think though one thing is for certain Skip Bayless is not going to go quietly into the night there are still at least three or four legitimate sports options for him and I'm sure we will see Skip Bayless land on the draft king network the fan duel network the folks over at Parstool might have fun making fun of Skip Bayless like the CBS sports comes to mind look there are plenty of places beyond what I just said where Skip Bayless might land I seriously doubt though that anybody is going to give Skip Bayless a four-year $32 million contract because those buckets I was talking about there are just so many people that Skip Bayless has turned off over the years that he's going to have a hard time ever bringing back in to the fold all right those are my thoughts on Skip Bayless you know I'm never excited to talk about somebody being fired or somebody leaving a gig but like I said at the opening like there's nothing there is that you know if you read an article and the headline is bombshell and it involves Skip Bayless that author is not doing his his readers justice there is no bombshell here this was coming the writing had been on the wall for quite some time and Fox Sports did what we sort of knew they were going to do I think the only thing surprising here to me at least is that this didn't happen a little sooner all right North America I want to know what are your thoughts on Skip Bayless being asked in my opinion to bail Fox Sports I want to hear from you North America couldn't drop in your comments
