The New York Mets have been on a roll lately, winning 15 of their last 19 games to get back to .500. After each of those wins, the Mets played Jose Iglesias' new song "OMG" in the clubhouse.

With "OMG" set to be the song of the summer, host Ryan Finkelstein talks about the vibes around the Mets right now and why that bodes well for their future this season.

Also, a Mets vs. Houston Astros series preview and a Friday Farm Report.

We've gone on very similar arcs so far this season, so that could be an interesting grudge match. Then in the final segment, a little bit of a Friday far report. Thursday night, the New York Mets held an event, and I'm not really sure what the entire event was about, but what we saw on social media was a bunch of videos of Jose Glaseous debuting his song to everyone at that party, and the vibes were unbelievable. You see a Glaseous singing, and then Pete Alonso in his all-white suit comes dancing over, and he's singing with the Glaseous, and then all the teammates come out, and you can watch that video 20 times. Look at each different guy in the mix, whether it's Severino, DJ Stewart, J.D. Martin. Almost the entire team is there, and they're all having a blast on the dance floor as a Glaseous is singing this song. And it's crazy to see the transformation of the New York Mets over this past month. And it shows you the rollercoaster that is any baseball season, but it also gives you hope that there's something special brewing with the New York Mets, and they're gonna give us a really exciting ride this summer that will be unforgettable. I really hope so. I'm not saying, hey, when the world's serious, I'm saying, hey, keep me entertained for six whole months. And the Mets have done that this year on both ends of the spectrum so far. You go on five to start, horrible, everyone, is jumping off the bandwagon before the rides even started. Then you go 12 and three over 15 games, everyone's right back off. Francisco Alvarez gets hurt. The Mets go 10 and 25 over the next 35 games fall way below 500. Jorge Lopez is the boiling point. He throws the glove into the stands. There's a player's only meeting, the worst bleeping, all of it. All of it in that one game just gave you a huge turning point. The meeting puts the Mets in a position to have a little more accountability in that clubhouse. They make some roster moves. Christian Scott and Brett Beatty, they go down. They bring up Jose Iglesias and Danielle Nunez. Nunez helps solidify the back of the bullpen. And at the time when Iglesias comes up, it was this great story, right? Journeyman who was out of baseball the last year out of the majors, I should say. He was working in the minor leagues to improve his game to prolong his big lead career. He's back, it's a great feel-good story. When he first meets with the media, he talks about his song, "Oh my God, OMG." This song that he's going to be releasing this summer. And it's just a footnote at the time. But if you were to at some point, not that the Mets are going to win the World Series, but if you were going to create a World Series DVD type style of documenting this season, that moment would be something that you would put up there. "Oh, my song is coming out." And then you would flash to the music playing at City Field when the Mets hit a home run. Or maybe you grab a video of the Mets celebrating in the clubhouse after a win, because now after every win, that's how they celebrate. And those little things, it's that secret sauce in baseball, something you're playing for. It's four to three in the ninth inning. And yeah, you want to win the game anyway. But that draw to get another OMG party in that clubhouse locks the guy in a little extra degree and he gets the big hit. It's just the overall vibes and they're contagious in baseball, just like hitting's contagious. Look at this Mets team right now. And despite how great they've been playing, they're at 500, they're 39 and 39. And as we know with a roller coaster, you could say just based on the law of averages, a team that is 15 and four in their last 19 games is due for a dip at some point. It might be the upcoming series against the Astros. We're going to preview that. They are really hot too. But once you start to find that special something, you can take off as a team and maybe there isn't another dip. Maybe the dip is playing 500 in baseball, but there's more stretches when the Mets rear off, five in a row, win five straight series. This team is special right now. And it's crazy that Jose Glace is the guy that you couldn't possibly take off this roster. I don't care if Brett Bay's hitting 450 in Triple A. Can't take him off the roster to bring up Baydy. Even if Luis and Elacuna has earned a promotion and you think he should be your backup infielder, you can't do it. You're better off eating a ton of money and D.F.A.N. Jeff McNeil than ever getting rid of a Glaceus and the vibes he's brought to this clubhouse for the rest of the season. He has earned his place. I was talking to my dad the other day about the 2015 Mets, who we were going over, you know, Wanna rebank Kelly Johnson. When those guys came in and joined the team, and I was actually looking at that season actually after our conversation, like is 2015, December, 2024? It's not really because that team was just sort of 500 all year than they exploded in their 28 in August and won the division off the back of that, really. Then that team was predicated on pitching this one's on hitting, but there is something to be said about finding that right combination of guys, whatever it is. And once that formula is ironed out and you find the pieces, things can roll from there. So the vibes with the New York Mets right now, it's special. And whether it's a rain delay where you see, you know, fans just doing crazy stuff, whether they're chugging beers in the rain or grimace is standing over the people chugging, I mean, it's just, it's fun. It's crazy. And yes, I have talked against the grimace thing a little bit because it's about the players and it's about what they're doing. And it's a lot more than grimace. But you know what? Having fun at the ballpark, having the fans in it, the Empire State Billing being lit up purple, all of this stuff happens when your team is good and it just makes for an exciting summer. So one way or the other, we'll see where this season ends up going. But oh my God, being the song of the summer is not something any of us could have expected a month ago even. But here we are. And it is a ride that I think we just hope never stops. So we'll see where this team ends up going. And there's still questions, right? There's still questions about the rotation, the bullpen, find the right combination in those two parts. But I look at what this team does have and I'm optimistic between the top four in their lineup with Nemo and Lindor. Sorry, Lindor and then Nemo and then Martinez, then Alonso. The way that combination can be consistent and ignitable. With Francisco Alvarez and Marc Fientos coming into their own, with Harrison Bader being as good as you could have even expected, he has lived up to any lofty expectations and maybe even exceeded them. And really, the only question marks our second base with Vibe King Iglesias and Jeff McNeil, who, if you believe in positive regression, is due to be a lot better than he has been. And then the right field question mark with Marte's injury. But I think this is a team that can answer a lot of those questions. So we're going to go through that throughout the show because the Syracuse Mets are 48 and 29 on the season. So I want to talk about what reinforcements could still come from there. That's going to be our last segment. But our next one here is the preview of this upcoming series because you have a team that has had a similar story arc this year with the Houston Astros. That has an even better track record. Is this the team that slows the Mets down? We'll talk about that in a series preview next, first though, a word from our sponsors. The Houston Astros have been very similar to the New York Mets this year. They started off 0 and 4. They finished April with a 10 and 19 record. They were 12 and 24 on May 8th and then won eight of nine games, flashing a potential to be a good team, getting themselves to five games under. But then they closed that May with a stretch where they lost eight of 13. When right back down, they were 25 and 33 heading into the month of June. Since then, they're 15 and 7. They have the second best record in baseball trailing only the Mets by one in the loss column. Whoever wins this series gets the title for best team in the month of June and will also get to maintain a record over 500 because up to this point, each of these teams literally just got back to 500 heading into this series. So that'll be short lived for one of them and then of course, throughout the month of July, they can climb well above that. They both play to the standards that they have reached in June. It's been pretty crazy to see the Astros go through this because I think the Mets did not have expectations this year, so seeing them lose games, not surprising. Seeing a dynasty potentially being on their way out crumbling, that's going to make you take notice. And there's been a lot of dialogue about what would the Astros do with the trade deadline? Would they have the stomach to sell? Because Alex Braggman is hitting free agency after this season. Justin Burlander could potentially be hitting free agency after this season. Interesting to go on that one for you Mets fans. Burlander hurt right now and not that you ever want to celebrate an injury, but the New York Mets do have something to be paying attention to with Burlander because if he can't reach 140 innings pitch this year, club option that the Mets put into his contract, that comes off the table. That's big for the Mets because they owe him $17.5 million of that $35 million club option. The Astros desperately want him to get to that number because it's a cheap contract for Burlander next year. Otherwise, he becomes a free agent and maybe the two sides settle on a new deal. But that is one way that the Mets are sort of keyed into what's happening with Burlander. But regardless, you look at where this Astros team is right now, they have climbed their way back into the conversation. We don't have to worry about trading Braggman or Burlander. Or they might be big buyers to the deadline, although I don't know how much they have left to sell from their farm system. But this is not a team that's going to go away lightly. And throughout this past month, they have a good offense. They're seventh best when it comes to OPS. The Mets had the best OPS in baseball to team. And then their pitching has somehow scrapped it all together, figured it out. And now they are sitting with the best ERA in the American League this month, third best in all of baseball. The Mets are tenth best. They're half a run behind the Astros when it comes to ERA in the month of June. And they're doing this with four active pitchers on their 40-man roster who are starters. Everybody else on their 40-man roster who the starting pitcher has heard. They got Roanell Blanco, Fran Brevaldes, Hunter Brown, and Spencer Aragetty. Aragetty is the only weak spot in that rotation, because Hunter Brown has been unbelievable lately. Over his last seven starts, he has an ERA sub two. He has a 1-4-7 ERA. His last seven starts with a 0.8 in whip. Hunter Brown was a rookie last year, first full season, had his struggles, started off this year, continued a struggle. But he's 25 years old, really talented. Now it seems like he's figuring it out. And that's been a big reason for their turnaround. Meanwhile, you have Blanco, this guy that they just discovered out of nowhere, who has a 2-3-4 ERA so far this season, 8-2 record and 14 starts, 0-9-7 whip. And then you have Valdez, who's actually been the worst of those three, but still has the track record of being their ace. Those are the arms I expect to see this weekend. Blanco and Valdez have been announced. Sunday's starter is still listed as TBD, but it's either going to be a bullpen game or Brown and Brown would be on full rest, because they had it off there on Thursday. So I imagine we see Hunter Brown for that final game. The Mets are going to roll out Jose Quintana. That will be the starter on Friday night. Francisco Alvarez will be behind the dish. And I say that because you look at the splits this year for the Mets two veteran left-handed pitchers. And for Chamanaya, when he has Alvarez behind the dish, he has a 1-6-3 ERA and 27-2-3 innings pitch. Gets the rest, or not it gets, with the rest of the Mets' catchers, 5-1-8 ERA and 48-2-3. Jose Quintana, 2-2-5 ERA and 28 innings with Alvarez, 5-8-6 ERA with the other catchers. So those two left these in particular expect Alvarez to remain behind the dish whenever they're on the mound, who will sit down on Friday and put the off-day. Who knows if Alvarez even gets a day off in this series? They're going to have to rest them at some point. Probably actually Sunday would be his off-day because Luis Severino has like throwing to Luis Torens. So I imagine that would be one outing that we'd see Torens out there for. But you look at the first two games with Quintana going up against Blanco and then Vala is going up against McGill. The Mets probably at the disadvantage when it comes to the pitching matchup. But Alvarez can change that. He really is a difference maker behind the plate and he gives his guys more confidence. So hopefully we see some of that early on in this series. And honestly, you see a good picture up against the Mets? You feel good right now because this lineup can get hot against anyone. So Rona Blanco's got a 2-3-4 ERA this season. It's been unbelievable. Maybe this is his blow-up start. The Mets can win one of those first two games. I feel very comfortable with Severino pitching in a rubber match. We saw that work out well for the Mets last Sunday. Hopefully that happens again. Or maybe you're not even in the position where it is a rubber match. Maybe the Mets have really taken care of business early on and kept those good vibes rolling. But right now, this is must watch television any time the Mets play. And against the team like the Astros that comes in red hot off a 7-game winning streak who has a very similar arc this month, it should be a fantastic series. I cannot wait to watch it. Now, to close out the show today, we're going to talk about the Syracuse Mets. Are there any reinforcements that can come up to help this bullpen or this rotation on the pitching side? And I'll also spotlight a couple of other top arms in this system for our Friday farm report. We're going to get to that in just a minute. First though, a word from our sponsors. That's the best record in their division of the AAA internationally. It's pretty crazy because you look at the Norfolk tides with all those top prospects the Orioles have, and here are the Mets with a better record. And why that's important is because the Mets have a mix of some prospects, but a lot of veterans that are there in AAA, and that gives them a wealth of talent that they can tap into. It gives them depth. Yeah, you could say, all right, well, if they're crushing AAA pitching, what's that mean? Jose Galasius has come up and he has been a difference maker for this Mets team. Maybe Ben Gamel is the next guy that provides something coming up from Syracuse. Danielle Nunez, Danny Young. Some of these guys have come in and played a nice role in the bullpen. So I do think that there is a lot of talent there that has led to a lot of waiting at that level. And that's just a good thing to see moving forward. Speaking of the specifics, though, let's go into the arms that could help the Mets. Dom Hamel had a great start on Friday. Maybe a good start, but great by his standards for this season. He went seven innings, that's a huge, huge step. Nine strikeouts, Diggio at three iron runs, but that is a really good start for Hamel. I don't necessarily expect to see him this year, but is there a world where the New York Mets are looking for an impact arm in their bullpen, and they decide to convert him and see what he has? There is a world. I don't think so. I more wanted to just point out, he had a really good start tonight. The guy that has struggled to find those. Jose Budo and Christian Scott are the two names that could most impact the Mets this season. Budo has made six quality stars between the majors in Triple A this year out of his 14 starts. If you look at the modern day quality start, so if you say three iron runs are less and five innings, Jose Budo adds five more starts to that list. So 11 of his 14 starts. He has gone at least five as a lot of three iron runs are less. That is an honor that they can call on at any time and he can improve this rotation, or at least keep it where it is. If you replace a McGill or a Peterson with a Budo, I don't think you skip a beat. So that's a really good depth to have. The Houston Astros would kill to have Jose Budo on their team right now. They would, 'cause they desperately need pitching. So that's a nice piece. And honestly, not that I want them as to try Jose Budo, so I think that he has some value to them. At this deadline, if you had to make a move to get something, you never know. A guy like Jose Budo might give you more than you to expect because a team might need a starter to plug into their rotation as a guy that can eat some innings down the stretch. And also, he comes with a ton of control. They might get a good prospect for a guy like Budo, not that I want them as to deal them, but it's just food for thought. Christian Scott has a 2-1-2 ERA since going out of Triple A. That's always an option the Mets can go to, whether that's keep moving their rotation, or who knows, maybe as they taper off his innings, they play with them out of the bullpen. I personally would like to see him just remain as a starter, right out this season, even if it is at Triple A. Get your innings in, do your work, get ready, because 2025, Christian Scott should be part of the opening day rotation, and hopefully can be on a five-man rotation at that point, and be a difference maker. So the most important thing to me on Christian Scott is building up those innings. Last year, he was just shy of 90 innings. Get him over 120 this year. That's all I really care about. But still, a lot of those innings can still take place in the big leagues. He can be an impact arm for the Mets. And then on the relief side, you got Nat Festa, who was signed on a minor league deal at the end of May. In Syracuse, he has a 1-7-6 ERA with 19 strikeouts in 15 and a third innings pitch. That's across 11 appearances. So he's going multiple innings sometimes. Festa is an option for the Mets at some point. He's not on the 40, but the Mets can make some 40-man spots if they just take books really, put them on the 60-day IL. Grant Hartwig just had knee surgery. You could put him on the 60-day IL. There's ways the Mets can maneuver things to add some arms to this bullpen during this stretch of that Diaz. Festa is definitely a name to watch. As is Max Kranick, he was a starting pitcher, and he's now been moved to a relief role in Syracuse, because they have a lot of prospects taking up those starts. Over his last 30-days, Kranick has appeared in eight games. He has 16 strikeouts in 13 and a third innings pitch, and his whip is 0.75, only two walks and 13 and a third innings. So Kranick is a guy that could call up be a multi-inning sort of Swiss Army knife guy. Very interesting on what the Mets have right now, just sitting in AAA. And then you have Josh Walker, who we've seen this year, but he's been lights out this month, 14 strikeouts in 17 and a third innings pitch. If his ERA was 0 over 17 and a third innings, that would have been more impressive, but the 14 strikeouts in seven and a third innings, that's also very impressive to strike out that many batters. He's only allowed one hit in those seven appearances. So Josh Walker, I imagine we see him at some point soon here. And then Wilkin Ramos, I talked about him the other day, a guy that was called up from AA, had really great numbers there. He's getting close, so that's another arm that could potentially go to you. That spotlight, a couple of top prospects, you made really good starts this week. You have Brandon Sprote coming off a downstart, we gave up four runs well. No earned runs in this one, six innings pitched on Thursday in AA, five hits allowed, two walks, again, no earned runs, three strikeouts, only 88 pitches to get through those six innings. Brandon Sprote is special. There's a world where he comes up this year in a relief role too, if they really wanted to, just put the best arms possible on this team down the stretch, maybe more likely than not though. I'm on the same wavelength as far as how I feel like they met you handle Scott. Same thing with Sprote. Next year, Christian Scott, Brandon Sprote, they both could be in an opening day rotation if the Mets wanted to. And if not on Sprote, very soon after that, this guy is going to make starts in the big leagues next year. I am sure of it, and he could be a really great pitcher that could help this team for years to come. Another guy that could be of that same caliber as Jonah Tong, who is starting to figure out high after going through some struggles once he got promoted, which is fair. I mean, the kid is still young. Was he 20 years old, 21 years old now? Oh yeah, I think I talked about this last week and celebrating his 21st birthday. So he just turned 21. And in his start on Thursday, he struck out 11. He went six innings, allowed three hits, one-on-run, one walk, he has a 1-6-90 array over those last three stars, as I mentioned. He's a really good prospect for this Mets team. And moving forward to have Sprote and Tong, that gives you some guys a dream on. Guys, that it's not just, oh, he can be a starter in the big leagues. It's potentially, oh, he can be a frontline starter in the big leagues. The Mets haven't developed a lot of those guys since the last time they went to the World Series in 2015. Now you're starting to see that level of a core come up, maybe not quite that level, because Harvey DeGrom Wheeler, that was pretty special. Stephen Matts, Noah Syndergaard. That's once in a generation type stuff to have that many guys come up. And pitching is very fragile because between Generation K and then whatever we're calling the 2015 Mets, those guys can crumble on you, but it's having guys at each level of the farm system that makes things so exciting when you talk about the future of the New York Mets, because you have arms that could make an impact 2025, other arms that can make an impact in 26, 27, 28, goes all the way down the line and they're developing pitching much better than they have in years past. And that leaves you very optimistic that they can be a wealth of pitching year over year that they can tap into whether it's on the trade market or for themselves at the big league level. I feel really good about where the Mets are at in this farm system. And then again, when it comes to helping out the roster this year, there are plenty of arms and Syracuse and even a couple in Bighamton that could help put this team over the top. I don't want to see the Mets trading for rentals this year to help their bullpen or to help their rotation. I don't want to see that. So to take this team that looks really good, put them over the top, I actually believe that internal development could be that finishing touch to this team. We'll just see where exactly it comes from. Anyway, that's going to be all for today's edition of Lockdown Mets. We keep the show rolling throughout the weekend. So I'll be back with the Saturday show breaking down Friday night's game and giving you a little more prospect talk. We'll be going through the position players in the Mets system talking about some of those guys. So make sure you check out tomorrow's show.
