Now here's Tiffany, Mike, and Paul. Good morning. Good morning. Good morning, Rob. Good morning. Good morning, good morning. Man, I ain't done that since I've been on vacay. I haven't done that to do that since I've been back, so it's great to be with you. The people want to hear you yelling at them. I don't really care. Stake yells at people too when he gets on the air. Yeah, they seem, I mean, it's worked for him for like the last 50 years. So what's it going to work for me? Well, it worked for him, but I have to turn the volume down for that. But then the rest of the stuff he does is just glorious. How are you doing this morning? Rob Tribble alongside me, Squid Billie. Yes. Bo Morgan. I'm doing well. It's so weird. Like I fell asleep with the Braves game on. Yeah. And in my dreams, I merged with what was, I was in the booth with Brandon and CJ. Were you sitting in the middle? I was kind of off to the side. Oh, I felt like I was a part of the broadcast, but they didn't hear anything I was saying. So it's kind of like doing this show with us. Yeah, pretty much. Yeah. It's so different, which is what I was getting to. You jumped my punchline, but that's okay. Oh, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I didn't. I feel bad now. Not really. Since when are you capable of any remorse? You know, I am. I have a moment. You have moments of remorse. Yeah. You know who makes me feel more remorse than anyone? Day day? No. He gives you that, that, that on click. Day day is my, he's my zen. Like when I look at day day, I feel peace. Like I, I'll, there'll be days where I'm just like, I'm, I'm irritated. I didn't, I didn't sleep well or whatever. And we'll come in here and, and I'll get in the talk bag and I'll say he's a total five, very peaceful, but we don't know about the storms that are brewing inside though, the homicidal thoughts, just the, the dark darkness that exudes from his soul, but he hides it well. He's the guy that you don't piss off. No, you don't, you don't anger, but I'll literally will be like, I'll look at day-to-day and like, hey, I need to keep me, keep me, uh, keep me level today. He just gives you that look with his glasses on his nose, looking over his glasses at you. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. That's what he does to look. He gives me when he's, when he's zen in me, when he's giving me my zen. When he's zen in you, zen in me. Is that a word? That might, that kind of sounds bad. You know what? And he's giving, no, I don't want to say giving me my zen either because that even sounds worse. But, um, you know, it was, uh, we had, uh, I had a breakdown, like a meltdown last night. Uh, so it was, I race and I, and obviously Mike Johnson's out. So he missed it. He's on vacay. So it was me and the, uh, uh, my boy, Dom and, uh, his boy, Dom and Doug and become my, my boys too. And something, it was a glitch. There was something going on. Apparently I had a window running in the background. And so it was screwing up my race. And it, when it glitches, like it just calls his wrecks. And so I lost the race on the glitch. I finally figured it out. And how many other people do you knock out of the race? Uh, nobody, it was just other AI cars that I knocked out other than because we race against AI kind of the way we do it. But, um, we're racing against AI in every aspect of life. My friend is taking over. I know. Humans are obsolete. And much like in the Terminator, the AI drivers are very aggressive. So, um, I, I almost, uh, I almost had an incident with a, with a, with a CPU unit and a 50 inch, uh, TV last night. I almost hurled it. So I get trapped in my parking garage and you start the show with, did you ram your way through it? No, I did not have to. So you start the show with talking about race racing. And your anger has no bounds that you would fight something that's not even real. Wasn't going to fight it. I was going to destroy it. We all get mad at inanimate objects in the AI. That's the, that's the one thing I have the least amount of patience for is technology. When technology doesn't work, like where there's a Wi-Fi router or a cell phone, the, the instant reaction is spiky it like Gronk would do a football. It's going to touch down. But then it won't work anymore after that. Probably. Yeah. It teaches it not to work. But it also costs me money. So, yeah, that's, that's what we saw. Yeah. We talked about what we did last night. Well, rage and violence is better than therapy, isn't it? I mean, Rob had a, uh, some kind of weird fantasy about being in the booth with CJ. If you ever fall asleep with the TV open, sometimes you merge your dream and your dream, you merge with what's going on there. I was in the booth and I was making some great points and they didn't hear me. They ignored me. Oh, they did. Yeah. It must've been, that's like a subtle anxiety. I don't know what that's like. So crazy. Does that, does that mean if I go to sleep with like Shark Week on that I'll, I'll like, it could happen. I'll, I'll, I'll dream that I'm in the shark cage with a shark coming at us. Why do the shark cages have the big openings on them? That's so they can put their cameras out and film. They're still, they're still room. They're still, they are quite, oh, oh, sometimes maybe they try to, no, usually for tagging a shark to track it, they do that from the boat, I think. They tag them from the boat. No, they get in the water a lot of times too with those little guns and boom and they shoot them and they, some of them get down there and they swim with them and they tag. That's what I was just thinking. Sometimes they can tag them through the, through the opening in the gate. They had a shark last night. They were doing a, they were, they went out and they found these great whites and they were trying to find like, do tests on them to see which one was the true alpha. They were all male sharks and they had a shark that was like 15, no, it's 13 foot and this sucker, they would put the bait up so it would come in it would, it would come out of the water and the, the, the shark hit 22 miles an hour going up. And it went, it breached the water. It hit 22 miles an hour. It's unbelievable. Has they gotten to the Greenland sharks yet? No. Those are like, I think they're like well sharks. They're not necessarily a carnivores. They live to be like 200, 300 years old. Jeez. Oh, I did. Yes. That is not lying. Speaking of shark week, someone had a feeding frenzy at this desk and I think they did it on purpose again. No, it was the birthday boy. It's been well documented on Twitter by some people, some other hosts on the show. It was. So it started after yeah. Yeah. On the air. Yeah. No one just decided to. That's my favorite part about being, this is all I'm going to say about it. Cause you know, it's, it's, it is what it is. Everyone around here loves to air out what's wrong, but no one loves to do anything. It's like, look at this. This is wrong. No, no, not you. I'm talking about, I'm talking about other shows yesterday. It survived. Um, two show, three shows after you. So nobody thought, but no one decided, no, no, no one just just, everyone complains. No one decides to step up. Not you just cleaned it. But I'm talking about the shows yesterday. They decided let's document this and tweet it, but I'm not going to clean it. It's far more fun to complain and murder your self. Anyway, that's beyond me. Beats me. This hour brought to you by Morgan and Morgan injured, higher Morgan and Morgan America's largest injury, law firm. All right. Are you guys, uh, happy? Uh, I'm neither overwhelmed or underwhelmed. I'm just whelmed. Yeah, four straight. I'm happy. It's pretty good. Yeah. Sure. I got a question for y'all. Okay. In the last three games, this player is six for 12 with two home runs and like three or four RBIs, is he starting to kind of, now I don't want to say get hot, but heat up to the point where he is again us. No, look, you're, you're going to make a move. He is again, what heating up to a serviceable player. There's no doubt that you're going to make a move with the deadline for a corner out filter. Right? I mean, that's that that is understood. I would think but Duvall is now a, if he can continue to play like this, he will at least become a serviceable option. I think he's going to do what he always does. He's going to get scalding hot for about four or five days, and he's going to disappear for a month. Don't be it. Don't. Don't be the guy. Okay. He'll, he'll get scalding hot for 17 days and disappear for two months. No, let's just say like maybe like two weeks about that. Well, look, he's a platoon player at this point in his career. And if, if he can get us to that point, Eli White's red hot too. He almost hit another home run last night, just missed. You got a, Tiffany, you hit a pitcher last night in Zach Galen who has been phenomenal. His ERA is on, was under two at home and you got five runs off of them. You, you rushed him out early. All right. Well, Chris Sell outdoled him, but yes. Yeah. And that wasn't Chris Sells best. He was, he had to grind last night. He daces loaded first. He was grinding. He grinded with, and you know what's amazing is Chris Sells grinding his non-strike outs, couple walks to our runs. He had like three walks, I believe. Yeah. Probably a lot for him, but that, you know, as a pitcher, that can also be gratifying. I grinded it out, only gave up a run and we got the win. Yeah. Five and a third. Yeah. Yeah. Now he's 12 and three. So he's got a chance to win, have it be a 13 game winner going into the all-star break. That kind of reminds me it's not the same, but, um, Rob, you remember 96 when small, it's one to saw young and he started, I think before the all-star break, he was like 14 and one or something kind of reminds me of that where, cause that was kind of a bounce back breakout, you know, re-breakout year for small set then. Well, you remember when his, when his career first started, I mean, he almost pitched his way out of baseball. He had to go to a sports psychologist and that kind of a right is Jack Llewellness, who that was. And he was off and running after that. Interesting to point out, uh, sales expected to pitch again, uh, for the Braves on Sunday. So it means that he probably will not be available to pitch in the all-star game, which will be happening two days later. Yeah. Um, I'm sure he'll go to the festivities. Um, I don't see why he would miss that. It's really gratifying for him to show up and be a part of it. I have no issues with him not pitching in that, um, especially when the week before the all-star game, you just say, you know what, we're going to give you an extra days rest, which didn't really, I don't, I don't, I don't know how much it did or didn't help. So I have no issues with that. Um, there's also some other Braves notes they announced yesterday that they return right-handed pitcher, AJ Smith Shauver from his rehabilitation assignment and reinstated him from the injured list. So Atlanta also optioned right-hander Bryce Elder to triple-a go net after Monday's game. Uh, back to Smith Shauver though, he was projected to miss six to eight weeks after shredding his left oblique on May 23rd. And he was throwing two weeks later. Uh, now he'll give the Braves bullpen depth after making just one rehab appearance. Poor Bryce. Just back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. He's like that sometimes. Do you at least ask, Hey man, can I stay a couple of days out here though before I go back? Can I just hang out? Yeah. Yeah. I mean, can I like just do my, you know, I've got to rehab. I'm assuming as a majorly picture the day after you start, you just don't do anything, but kind of, you know, I see arm or whatever, maybe do some rehab stuff and then some long toss, maybe. Yeah. Like, is it going to do that here and then then go back to go back to go now? Yeah. The funny thing about Smith Shauver, as I said, it looks like he's going to be using a bullpen role for now. And if he doesn't see action, then they might option him so he can continue to make rehab stars. Well, sometimes when you leave a place, you start airing things out. Uh oh. Sometimes it happens in the NBA. Sometimes it happens with a former Hawks player. Oh, we'll find out exactly who and what they had to say when we come back and go into the front page next on the Morning Shift on Sports Radio, the 19/9 of the King. We're gonna get on down now. We're tucking all things in light of sports and beyond, this is the Morning Shift. One, two, three, it's time to take a look at today's top headlines. This is the front page on the Morning Shift. Surprise. All right. Dijon Timmer is now part of the Helikens. And so in talking with their social media team, he gave an interview and discussed things about valuing players. Take a listen. I value just playing the right way. And playing the right way is, you know, defense win championships. Obviously, you got to score the basketball too. But just, it's something for me, like when I know I'm playing defense, but also you got a group of guys playing defense. It's just, it's just something you can't teach in the feeling of that, just knowing that we're competing on who's guarding the best guy or you knowing that, you know, you got your teammates back. That's important. So, you know, I love defense, you know, but it's a team thing. You can have one guy playing defense at two and the rest nine, nothing happens. So, you know, I'm excited to come. Like I said, this group all competes. Everybody wants to defend. Everybody wants to share the ball. You know, I pay attention every day. First I was going to say he's not taking any digs, but then the last part of it. Absolutely was. Perhaps he was. He was using some verbal judo. Yeah, you know, the beginning, I was like, all right. And then the ending was not subtle. I mean, nothing was subtle, but he said anything he said all day. He went on, he said other stuff as well about how he's just a player. He's not trying to be a GM. He doesn't care about front office, lead it to the front office. I mean, there was jab after jab. And I'm sorry. But if you don't, if you're too obtuse to understand who he's talking about, then, you know, your heads buried up somewhere and maybe it's a certain player's keyster, because bum bum bum, because he took shot after shot at Trey Young. There's no other way to look at it. When you say playing defense is something you can't teach. What does that mean to you? That mean, that tells me that it's an effort thing and you've got to want to do it. It's always an effort thing. And you can't teach it somewhat. Yeah, but positioning, whatever. But if you're athletic enough to create your own shot, you're athletic enough to move and play defense. But you can't teach someone an effort that you have to have want to. You can't, you can't take someone who doesn't want to work and say, Oh, you've got to work and make them. That does, that's not how it works. It just, that's just not it. That doesn't work. And it's not working here in our defense. He, you know, he, he also talked about sharing the ball. I mean, what was that about? Do you think that was? I mean, I think that's the problem for me is I think Trey Young's one of the three best pastors in the game of basketball. I agreed. But sharing the ball means more than just dishing it. It means not having to have it in your hands at all every point, bringing it down the court when the, when the ball, the ball doesn't go through you offensively. And some people knows I think that's what, you know, Trey Young is the point guard. The ball should go through him. However, when you bring a guy in that you won't like Dejante Murray where you sign off on where you have to go meet with before the move is agreed upon. And then you don't share the ball. I don't know how else to take those comments other than Dejante Murray wasn't happy. I also read in what I think it was Adrian Warginowski's article on ESPN that Rich Paul who is Dejante Murray's agent tried to get the pelicans to trade for Dejante Murray before last season. Yeah, which tells me Dejante Murray wanted out after one season in this organization. Well, I guess to his credit, he wasn't complaining while he was still here. Not openly not openly because he's not a GM. As he said, he goes, I play basketball. I lead the front office stuff to the front office people. You listening LeBron, do you like a player leaving and then deciding to maybe peel back the curtain or say what his truth is? Well, yeah, there's nothing wrong. It's probably in the way you do it. If you really sound completely bitter, maybe mute that a little bit, but no, it was perfectly appropriate. It gives us something juicy to talk about too. So I'm all for it. Yeah. Bring on the chaos. I think John, John Collins last year did a, but yeah, he did. But David, he didn't do it as well as this. Yeah. He, he did it in his opening press conference and seemed extremely bitter. Which I don't blame him. Guess. Yeah, I don't either. If I'd have been trade bait for three years and they're walking on eggshells, if I'm going to walk in today and find out I've been traded. And how many times did it come out when his time in the last three years of his tenure here that him and trading get along and it was an open knowledge? So I don't block. DJ did it is classy. And as, as well as you could do it, you know, like, I, I, I've always just liked him. I think there's a maturity about him. There's a wisdom and he's a leader too. There's a lot of news that's coming out of big 12 media days. So we'll start with this, which had to deal with the story actually coming from Sasa Ritchie of the Dallas Morning News. So this is after they're running back. Ollie Gordon was arrested under suspicion of DUI for Oklahoma State. This is at the end of June. Both Gordon and Oklahoma State had coached my Gundy spoke about the incident at media days. Now, Gundy decided not to suspend Gordon. And in an explanation, he did talk about the fact that he's probably done something like this. He said, you know, a thousand times in his life. And that is just fine. But then he did go back and try to clarify those remarks. So he did say we were all guilty of making bad decisions. So just to put that out there, I did discuss though his reasoning as to why he did not suspend Ollie. Ollie made a decision that he wished he could have done better. But when I talked to Ollie, I told him, I said, you're lucky you got out light because you make a lot of money to play football. So back in the day, being able to cover the cost of what he's going to go through would be difficult for a college player. It's not for him. Now I'm not speaking for him, but I'm just saying that's not an issue for him. So nobody got hurt. I said, we see people doing this and people losing their lives across the country, not just football players, but everybody. So you got out lucky. I like that. I like what he said about taking him to. Did you, did you hear what he said about taking him? Yes. I like that. I did. I just wanted to read or just so I could clarify going to these initial comments too. So so he decided not to suspend him and then explaining that decision. This is in another portion of the interview. He said that two to three beers might put someone over the legal limit to drive. I've probably I've probably done that about a thousand times in my life. And it's just fine. I got lucky. People get lucky. And then he went back to clean up those comments, said we're all guilty of making a bad decision in order to clarify. But again, you just heard him, you know, it's funny how society large is so so moral and upright. When we try to condemn anything he said, maybe a bit in our full, but yeah, he's not wrong. We pretty much if you drink, you've done it a lot where you've driven home and you shouldn't have. I mean, I don't do that anymore, but we've all done it. There's nothing wrong with what he said really. I don't but he's going to be condemned for it. You know, the morality police is going to come after him. Yeah. And they say, you know, you know, the whole thing is if you have one drink, you shouldn't, you know, drive it. Yeah. So so if you get in a wreck with one drink in your system, that's a DUI. Yeah. And so all the people out there are condemning Gundy. The thing I would say is is is Gundy has a tendency to do the right thing and then do then say the wrong thing and condemn himself because Gundy was asked, well, why did you bring, why did you decide to bring Ollie Gordon to media days? And he goes because he needs to know that he needs to come in here and face the music. And he needs to answer these questions because he messed up. Yeah, don't make your coaches and your teammates answer for you. Right. Right. That's a really good point. And that's the perfect way to handle it. And then you just talk too much. And this is one of those situations where periods and commas and exclamation points are very important. So when you're talking, stop, Paul's clarifying and then move on with your statement. And he just didn't. And he kind of got caught up in his keys. Colorful and interesting. So keep being colorful and interesting, my Gandhi, but stop driving truck. We don't we don't want that in this world. We won't, we won't guys like NASCAR drivers who have to say everything right and mention all the sponsors they quit. Wait, what's my rate? Are you going off? Because because because you guess what? The same people they get get upset when people are too, but how do we get to the NASCAR? Because that's, that's what happened in NASCAR. Everybody was like, well, he's he's a loose cannon. And now we have no loose cannons. We have a bunch of, bunch of squares, a bunch of corporate boys. Yeah. Yeah, we can't we like entertainment, but yet we complain about our entertainment. You find some way to pop off on something that has, I don't know how you do it. And maybe it's just the anger that dwells within you talking about dwells with it. I don't know. It's with Tiffany walking a dog and I don't know, bumping into a neighbor's mailbox and somehow that equates to, you know, just like all those people who don't take accountability for tweeting at me, the wrong facts and they keep me angry. I don't, I don't know. My mind is very extensive and I don't understand, I don't want to expect most people to understand how it works. But I will tell you that, you know, there's a lot of, there's a lot of shots firing off in there and I don't know where it's going to go. There, that's what I'm looking for. You will find a reason to fire, take a shot at somebody within the context of, like, of that. It has nothing to do with. A squid never forgets, Tiff. I can't. I can't with you. All right. When we come back here, we will hit a TV's time out. Stay with us on a morning shift on Sports Radio 19 and the game. [MUSIC] With Tiffany, Mike, and Beau on Sports Radio 92.9, the game. [MUSIC] This hour walks me by Morgan and Morgan injured, higher Morgan and Morgan America's largest injury, law firm. We'll get you set in a minute for a TV's time out. But let's go back to the big 12 and media days because Commissioner Brett Yormack, I didn't mince words when talking about his feelings of the big 12 and what's to come in the future. We will be the deepest conference in America and every week will matter. We have star power and parity. We boast some of the top players and coaches in the game. November will be incredibly exciting and we will brand it as a race to the championship. I like the passion. It's terrific. It's not like a presidential fan. I felt like I was at some sort of rally or something. I think Dion wrote it for him since they're one of the new member schools. They grabbed four schools from the Pac-12 and then now Defunct Pac-12, which was Arizona, Arizona State, Utah. It's funny, what a great year the Pac-12 had last year. I know. Then it goes away. That's life in a nutshell right there. I will give him credit, Yormack. He has in some ways a little bit been ahead of the curve because a couple of years ago, he said the big 12 is open for business and everyone goes, "Oh, you're trying to expand." And really what he meant was is what he says he meant anyways was, look, we were trying to get our TV deal done ahead of the Pac-12. We knew that we needed to get it done ahead of the Pac-12. Essentially, he doesn't apologize which I like. I was reading an article this morning from the Athletic and I apologize for who wrote it off. I'll go back and look here and say, but he said, "I'm not sad or I don't feel any certain way that the Pac-12 is defunct." He goes, "The ultimate thing is we got our TV deal done and they didn't. They made their decisions and we made ours." And he's really in some ways been a visionary because he's the guy that's going to push the next era of college football as far as naming rights goes. He's the guy that has been years for a couple of years now. He said, "We need them on jerseys, we need them on fields and we maybe need a title sponsor for our conference and we can make fun all we want about what may be and be the AT&T Pac-12 or the big 12 presented, the big AT&T 12 or whatever the hell they're going to call it. But that's going to fund a lot of schools in IL dills for their conference and the SEC and the big ten are just going to try to get there first now that the secret's out. I mean, this is how you want your commissioner to sound, right? We've got to speak into existence, Dunneen. He's going to walk the walk clearly. He's passionate and he fills challenge. I mean, challenge is a good thing. Yeah, Kansas State's AD was interviewed for this and he, our president, excuse me, the Kansas State president, he goes, "Look, we turn a lot of ideas down that he brings us because ultimately we vote on them and we're the ones who have the ultimate say. It's kind of like a commissioner and you know, Goodell and the NFL owners. Goodell can come with something, but the owners can shoot it down. It's the same way with college conferences. He goes, "But that's his job is to bring us these ideas and then let us sort them out. And if we don't think we're ready, we'll shoot them down and we'll or we'll table them." And just don't break his spirit. That's right. Let him know that, hey, let him have the ideas coming. Don't break his spirit. Yeah, we appreciate you, Mr. Idea, man. We just have an idea, man, around here. Everything was an idea and nothing ever got executed. There you go again. What? I just want you to, for what? I just want you to call out whoever you are calling out. Oh, they know they are. These sent in my office. I mean, it's not, it's not it's not unclear who we're talking about. Anyways, okay, you're that guy. I am that guy. Well, my life detected, so. Yeah, you would know, wouldn't you, Rob? Oh, yeah. No, I know. Okay. All right, guess I'll stay on the outside. Let's say the TV chat. Well, luckily you were on the outside. Now let's take a look at what's going on in Tiffany's world with TV's timeout on the morning shift. Brought to you by maximum cash homebuyers.com. Fair cash offers for as is homes. Don't waste your time with repair. Call six, seven, eight, nine, oh, two, two thousand. You're right there. Listen, you're losing your meos. Rob, Rob, you just, you just cost me money. Tell him, Tiffany, that meos expensive. You know, you thought maybe your, your t-shirts will help you. Good old spit take. T-shirts will help you pay for me. Where are you second using to wipe up the meo? I split dollar myself. Save it up for your bail money. The two that you've sold so far can buy you one. Oh, we're well above too, Tiffany. And my profit, I'll be that. I'm not going to say, I know it. I don't make any profit. This is nonprofit. Go ahead. Oh, okay. All right. Oh, my gosh, can't promote. So, uh, I was thinking this morning about all the times, and I want to get y'all's take on this of how you feel when there's a buildup and you're so excited to tell a friend about the show you're watching that you think it's great. And you're giving them all this inside into it. And you're like, you've got to watch this. You've got to watch this. And so that friend decides, you know what? I'll watch. I'll bite. And then they watch. They don't feel the same way. And so how does that make you feel when you are so excited about something so excited about a restaurant? And then you go and share, you go tell the masses. This is a great place. Be like the big 12 commission. Don't let them break your spirit. And then they basically break your spirit with it. It was okay. It was good. Does that happen to you? Oh, yeah. Absolutely. It's my entire life. And I'm not sure. I get enthusiastic about something nobody else is. It, it, it, it, it's a little, you got that disappointment. You're like, well, well, I liked it. I mean, I thought it was good. Um, you know, it's happened with me and Amy a couple of times of TV shows where, um, I've found a TV show and I'm like, oh, I really like this. And then I'll try to, and it invites first, by the way, it's been the same for her with me. And then you just feel like, oh, well, I guess it'll be my thing and not ours. Yeah. Are you relinquished to your basement to watch it while she's in bed watching it upstairs? Or as a couple, do you just, do you power through? Do you pretend to like something she likes? Or as she pretended, did you find out she was lying to you a whole time? Oh, you know what? I actually hated this bow, but I sat through it because I did it for you. Well, that sports, like when we lived in a one bedroom condo show, I have to, I have to give her a lot of credit because when we lived in a one bedroom condo, she powered through a lot of braves, hawks, um, United Falcons, college football game that was on the time, whether it was a Tuesday, Thursday, whatever, she powered through a lot of that. Then we got a house and I had the basement and she had the living. Well, yeah, she does all the decor. I don't do any of that. So she didn't have to watch the race in Sonoma? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. She did not have to watch. Yeah. So she so it's changed. We do still have some things together, though. Okay. See, I was thinking because I'm going on this Euro trip with some of my guy friends in the zeal front of the show we always talk about. And they put out a list that we will revise and go over places that we want to try to go eat over there. And I took a shot at Denzel because there is a specific subplace in town that he built as the greatest place ever that we had to all go there to get this sub. So we said, you know what? That will go. We go. It was basically, it might as well have been subway. Oh, no, you didn't go there. We told him that. And he was. It just wasn't what we thought it was. It did not live up to the height. But was it at least good? It was serviceable. But it wasn't like we're walking in like this is the mecca of subs. And it was completely deflating. And we let him know about it. We did not we didn't hide it because then you know, you can make fun of the recurrent TV broke his spirit. He's never going to offer anything. He's never going to be enthusiastic. He still does. And then yesterday, I made sure to say, is this on the same level as the subplace we're just going to know now? Because it cannot. Well, you cut deep, don't you? I do. But they trust me. I get it right back. First off, Rob, you don't ever break a man that likes wine and hot dog spirit. That's unbreakable spirit. That's one thing I know about Denzel. And I don't even know him. I never met him, but I know his spirit is unbreakable. But but you know what? You're team Denzel, aren't you? I liked Denzel. Does he have a nation? Maybe we ought to join the radio station now. I think he's something silly. So I think it's a sacred member of Squint Nation. Oh, yeah. No, but you know what? At least give him credit. At least he's he's he's trying to get you guys to branch out and try new things. It just so happens that the new thing that he had was garbage. And now that's on him. Now see, now what happens, though, is his rep with y'all's group. And I want to throw the question back on you. Do you get penalized for a bad recommendation? Like you you have to miss a recommendation turn. Um you will be penalized. You will be penalized and but it will come in the form of of more so shaming. Yeah, but how long before you were willing to try something now he that he recommends now? I mean, I'll still go try. I mean, it's always fun shaming. It's fun shaming. Wow. Shaming one of your friends. Spoken like a soccer filled bully right there. Red card blackman right there. So but anyway, sometimes, you know, maybe once you have made a miss once you have missed, maybe you started to keep it to yourself. I don't know. I'm just curious how anybody else out there handles it. Do you lie for the person you love and tell them? I like because it shows a big commitment to sit through a full season of something you don't like. But go into dinner at someone's favorite place. It's not that good. But you kind of just fake your way through it. I don't know. Well, maybe now that the go for him the next time to like I heard this place. Someone told me this show or this place was good. We should try it maybe, you know, and then you're like, yeah, I knew it was good. Told you guys we come back. All right NFL off-season power rankings are out and this comes from Yahoo Sports senior writer Frank Schwab and he revealed on his list that he has the Falcons slotted at 18 and he also gave them a D off-season grade. His reasoning and I'll just read you some of it here. You might have missed this news with Falcons signed quarterback Kirk Cousins then drafted quarterback Michael Pennix. The rest of the Falcons off-season was fairly mundane. Again, those are Schwab's words and he said many experts like the signing of Darnell Mooney and he went on to say the last Cornell Crudrow Patterson and free agency trading Desmond Ritter he goes on and on but this is mainly his reasoning as to why he gave them a D and then I'll hit pause there. He also said he questions this and he questions of the Falcons offensive stars overrated and he said one of these things has to be true either Arthur Smith again his words was so incompetent as a coach he couldn't figure out how to get anything out of three stars right in front of him or those so-called stars aren't going to break out with any coach or quarterback because they aren't that great. Okay the last line I don't come on well this is a hit piece total hit piece look I have no issue with the scrutiny of the the draft season or the draft pick with Pennix because I wasn't a fan of it I understand. I want either. That has nothing to do personal Michael Pennix we've moved we've talked about it at Nozium we know where we all stand I have no issues with not liking that so I'm not going to kill him for that however the rest of this is a hit piece I did not you know Braylon tries he he he he criticizes Braylon tries to pick which at some point and here which I was just looking over and that's great but that dude was one of the best past rushes in college football but he's assuming about Aurora. Yeah well go ahead no no no I was just saying he said the same thing about what he said about Braylon too which is well in and you know you can say that Aurora was drafted a little bit higher than the air quote experts you know it predicted but Braylon tries is a still in the third round to me with what he did in college but to then to take a shot at these three stars as he puts it are offensive weapons or whatever well Cal Pitts had a freaking thousand yard season when he had a guy that could deliver the freaking football and Drake London went out there and and did all he did was get better the last two seasons and the other one I was assuming is Bijon that's come at but we talked about free agents too didn't he because everybody criticizes gave too much money to Darnell Moody a lot of people think that's the worst transaction and free agency so far and it looks like yeah and we were I mean I know you guys were really excited about the addition of a guy like Mooney and then someone else that Kirk Cousins has a previous experience with well yeah he watched him he watched him for those few years and he loved what he brought Darnell Moody also fits what you want to do with this offense he's a yack guy he's a guy that you get the ball in open space and he makes people miss he's he'll make you miss in a phone booth at times I watch watching go back and watch y'all 22 that's what he did that was a smaller guy was a five eleven hundred and seventy five pounds something like that so clearly fast twitchy yeah and let me say I think the basically I think with this de-grade boils down to is really heavy heavily weighing on drafting penics and so he said the opportunity cost of drafting him has to factor into the grade so that's weighing heavily on it but it so let me defensive players you drafted if they end up playing well then it's a why he said we could look better on it down the road but here's the deal for me he's got your hand on your hand because because this is the hypocrisy and like I know we all we talk for lip and living and we and these guys right for living so you're going to back yourself in a corner at some point because you're not always going to be right and you're going to sound and your your goal is to have these big takes but what was the Falcons biggest off-season need the number one thing they had to do in the off-season well quarter back clearly yeah well they didn't go get one they got to they got a guy who has been a top ten quarterback for most of his starting career even with bad teams like when he was in Washington well look at him over the past four years only two quarterbacks have more touchdown passes than him yeah would be Josh Allen and Patrick Holmes right so how do you give him a D for for filling the biggest void that you have yeah that's uh and look whether you liked who they drafted or not they tried to fill the other void which was the you know pressure defensive line not all passrushers come off the edge Rob it's so i mean remind me where Aaron Donald and JJ White and Chris Jones and uh who am i what are you talking about the interior yeah what's my guy up up 85 um played Auburn dominates our oh yeah the best guard in the league um you know i can't think of his name but that's where that these guys play up up front and on the line and they're not edge players they're interior players that that is a part of it and it's just one of those deals where we get so hung up you got to have a fire breather kind of off the edge that's not all out it's done you also are getting back guys i just don't understand the criticism i understand the criticism of the pinix pick but then they use the line that you're my Derek Browner yeah this is exactly i'm talking about um and thank you but the user line that either Smith was so incompetent he couldn't figure out how to get anything out of three stars right in front of him or those so-called stars aren't going to break out with any coach or quarterback well i don't know how you know you didn't have a quarterback that was the biggest thing and then you throw in the cordero Patterson well they lost cordero Patterson they lost like 230 yards of offense from scrimmage not even he was he was not that guy last year no and guess what he's in the sunset of his career it that's why it's not because i'm gonna get rid of guys before you get rid of guys one year before you actually should that's what Bill Walsh always says and you might have gotten rid of him a year late because cordero could not have upheld a whole season he didn't even start the season healthy and to blame arthur for for that if anything i blame arthur for being a little bit too loyal and want to bring in cordero back for an extra year uh and i love cordero he's such a pleasure to be around but this is this this hit piece is all over the place you're criticizing it's lazy too but what do you think well it's lazy done taking account maybe they did find somebody in the draft yeah maybe you did find them you don't know how those guys are going to pan out i i also lazy why do you put them at 18 if you give them a d and they're all seasoned that's about yeah means everybody else must be just absolute disasters in yeah with 32 well hell what were the other grades if you're an eight if you're an 18 i just think that there's some it's um it's low hanging fruit and i get that if you're right in a 32 team power ranking right and you're gonna you're gonna you're gonna just kind of skip on teams and it's easy to say you're gonna lack nuance because you got to get onto the next team yeah but i mean do a little bit of research um you know you can sit here all right let's go to darnell moony yeah he um he's been banged up a little bit and he's only had uh nine hundred and seven yards and three touchdown catches over his last two seasons did you bother turning on any of the all 22 did you bother doing any research on a fact that he um he has he's the most been the most open player past 20 yards with like one of the with the least accurate passes strong his way and that's what this team needed in this wide receiving course might take the top off the defense to go to the physicality of a drake london and what are these or or pits what are these two quarterbacks that you brought in have that that honestly the other quarterbacks didn't have and and i'll be up to be frank that clearly just in fields the the guy that was starting on a moony of miss that's accuracy and that's accuracy down field and and and that dude i was there no t_h_v_ uh uh a while back when kurt cousins are still kind of hobbling up the field and deep ball was accurate michael pennix deep ball was accurate they're they're they're better processors than um desmond or marcus were but let's not account of that let's just let's just be lazy yeah well dang i'm looking i'm scrolling through when i see that uh and some of his power rankings like he has the bucks for example at uh at 20 what do you give them they didn't do much really they re-signed my kevin's they got rid of Shaq Barrett you locked up baker uh yeah you did lock up baker which is a honestly i think that's a good move it's a great move um you you got the guy that you think's your franchise quarterback no you won a playoff game didn't he yeah he did a lot to be said for that and he played well down the stretch he had his best season as a pro i think uh i know that he had the cleveland the year in cleveland where they did make the playoffs but i thought this was his best year and you kept his best biggest weapon my kevin's yeah of course um but i think a lot of it and bakers had it too i mean yes it's who he is but him and dave canalis were on the same page and they had built this trust we'll see how it pans out now that canalis is with the uh panthers but that was something that baker did factor into his his success there and of course yeah having a guy like mike evans uh doesn't hurt either um or chris godwin so and their off-season grade it appears they gave it they gave them a c plus that is what uh frank schwaub of young sports gave the buccaneers so they got a c plus for doing pretty much nothing and losing their best edge rusher huh that's interesting that that that's the thing for me and and look we can get mad and obviously i'm i'm i'm always gonna you know get irritated with this kind of stuff but i i just think that when you when you're so harsh i guess what what irk me was the the three star comment and and it's funny how every national rider going in the last season destroyed this team for keeping staying staying with desren redder and not um making a making a move that was impossible to make which was a marjax and and how the falcons are going to regret this and blah blah blah and then they do the then they go get he's never going to come here well but then they go get two guys that can play the position and now we're gonna we're gonna well yeah but now i mean these guys suck i'll sneak this in on you so he's working his way down from the 32 team so it appears right now it has stopped at 17 until the other ones come out and he has a head of the falcons as the cults and their off season grade is a b how is their off season grade a b how i guess i'm sorry overall the grade is a b so yeah off season grade b yes yeah well that that's uh you know that's interesting um i guess the backup quarterback dill for joe flacko since you don't really know what anthony richerson is going to be they lost they lost zach moss now he's helped out because jonathan taylor you know was a little bit banged up last year i know because he was on my fantasy team and didn't do much for me so i had to pick up zach moss but i mean i there's just no that's my biggest problem is there's no consistency um you don't know who the hell anthony richerson is going to be he had a decent start to his career but the style of play that he plays is going to nine he's conducive to injury and guess what he got injured his entire career he's been injured it florida he was constantly banged up uh you he had injured last year rob your point i just won't consistency in these and um there this doesn't really seem to be much when we come back we're sticking with the nfl we're going in the huddle and uh which one of kirk cousins teammates former teammates ain't mad at them we're making a decision to come to atlanta we'll get to that answer next when we come back in the morning shift on sports radio night mainly mornings on the game means more of the morning shift nice on sports radio 929 the game 0-2 from gallant and Duvall crushes it oh no doubt her Duvall got it all along hover and now it's five to nothing atlanta here in the sixth adam Duvall helping to propel the braves to a win over the diamond back six to two that call courtesy of all his sports and he got all his booty into that swing didn't he well when you throw an 80 mile an hour curveball it just that just hangs um it's like baton practice for that guy i mean i guess basically uh it was a 3-1 blast uh and how about chrysale uh five and a third solid innings and so yeah this uh braves now have a what four game winning streak you know what i'm gonna call out somebody in this in this room right now because when we started this show you asked us if we were happy about that in in one person not gonna name names but they're sitting across from me they're not i'll bring it yeah whatever it's okay no no we need to get excited let's let's have a little bit of fun why do i have to get excited because we've been sowing our fillings about this team and they go take two of three from the fillies the the the diamond backs have been like 10 games over 500 since june um and we have been like three games over five or maybe just one game over 500 since june until this stretch let's be happy um devolve seemed like he's hit we had some we had some cut timely hitting last night was the first time all season that i really recall early in a game the lineup was working counts they were taking pitches they weren't swinging at nonsense aussie had in the bat last night that i was like this is the at bat that we need from this team they had they had zat gallon over 50 pitches and two innings he's one of the best pitchers in baseball at home yes cell is over 60 they were both over 60 after three so they were both just they had to had to grind yeah grind for both of them well back to adam do all uh this is what he's doing well at the plate according to him yeah yeah i mean i feel like uh you know i'm doing a good job not only of covering you know the outside cornering in but i think the biggest thing is laying off the pitches the trap pitches you know two two three inches off the plate in off you know away and um you know that's getting me into some better hitters counts and you know then i'm able to get them back into the zone so that's i mean you know it's a chest match with those guys and i mean the good ones are good at it so they're going to if you if you bite on that one that's just off the plate they're going to keep throwing it so at some point you got to you know take that so i feel like i've been doing that and then like i said getting back into better counts was that Laramie Tunsel and his uh gas mask in the background first part of that the ball in his last three games is six of twelve with two home runs four RBI's but the big number i take away from all that two strikeouts about say yep and that is key for him look i'm okay with being critical within reason uh you when you when you're critical when you call out what people are not doing as long as you're not the burn it down all is lost burn it down it's May it's June now it's July though and the team seems to be kind of getting a little bit this is a very important road trip Rob we talked about this that we wanted them to kind of get well especially consider what happened the last time they went out west yeah Seattle and LA and these are two teams that you've got to compete with with the wild card let's go in the huddle it's time to huddle up bring it in cold bring it in cold the latest nabel news rumors reports and happening with in the huddle brought to you by the good feet store premium art supports learn more at good feet dot com on the morning shift biking's receiver and justin jefferson joined the rich isons show and he was asked whether or not he was mad about kirk cousins leaving the Vikings and his response was yeah and no uh and when he was asked if he was surprised by the departure he said i always knew kirk was going to do whatever he needs to do for his for himself business wise i just knew that everything was the way he wanted it to be here though especially chest with having to pay me and having to pay so many different guys i feel like he just wanted a new start a new opportunity to start with atlanta and a clean slate i'm not mad at him at all for that i'm grateful for what he brought to me and the things we have accomplished together but the end of the day it is a business you have to do what is best for yourself in your family i clearly understand it's on to the next is there any quarterback that's certainly maximized earning potential more than kirk cousins no uh lord only one but he wasn't a starter and that's chase face can you stay in the league 17 years as a backup made 40 million bucks right something like that yeah i'm now doing the media stuff he's got something coming out the inner senior in athletic so yeah i think he does some NFL network appearances or he did before yeah i don't know if that will still be part of his deal but um yeah they've done like a fire cell up there definitely been well for himself yeah but so so that that's it though i mean starter wise it's it's kirk and non-starter is chase daniels i i love justin jefferson i i you know i don't know a lot about jamaar chase because he seems to be a little bit more um aloof or you just don't hear as much from him right um but in that he's like marvin harrison quiet yeah and that's not a knock on him i just i just don't hear as much but justin jefferson is like he's kind of the guy he's the kind of receiver you want on your team right he didn't make a big see he wanted a new contract it didn't get out of hand with him the whole time you know the main thing he said last season was i want kirk cousins back i want kirk cousins back when he in that 2020 class um he no he was uh yes he was yes he was yes he was yes he was um he came out after the 19 season because remember jamaar chase set out 20 and then came out in the 21 class he's heard i thought that was such a loaded class where's henry rugs now jail well the best receiver in that class is justin jefferson we thought jerry judy would be that guy and he's been there yeah and and that's the thing is jefferson has been great yes but jefferson was the other guy at lsu well right now dak Prescott is still the guy in dallas at the quarterback position and uh he's been in a precautionary walking boot this first made the headlines because he was spotted wearing it i think on a on a boat out in kabo he said that his ankle from the injury he previously had uh will tend to swell up when he goes deep sea fishing which is what he was doing so he's wearing the boot as a precaution uh and so who uh he also is entering the final year of his contract uh which will pay on 29 million for the 2024 season so he addressed the contract talks saying that there have been conversations back and forth with the cowboys but he's letting his agents handle the negotiations uh as for the walking boot well here's what he had to say honestly i'm getting older it's the same ankle right that that i snapped and had a nasty surgeon on four years ago so a couple of hard days of training and you know you get a little sore that you're going on a fishing trip and you want to protect it and and uh make sure that things don't get worse so literally it is absolutely not that's why uh it's what's that people people are reaching trying to make things that they aren't i'm getting older i have to take care of my body i have to be smart and uh if i can take precautions and lessening something about putting on a boot i'm gonna do it and so sorry that uh it's because that's a word i mean yeah because as being this morning we're sitting there a couple of deviations they devoted like 25 minutes to it i've seen more time devoted to a state funeral than than Dak wearing a boot on vacation fishing it's like okay let it go uh okay i don't i don't i don't know his body he does so i'm gonna listen to what he's saying i just think wearing a boot on a boat is uncomfortable and not really where i want to wear but to go spend his off season what he doing what he usually does which is fun maybe the boot provides and we don't know who knows what kind of game fishing you know you got to protect it because you got to really get into it to get that fish in there and you're standing up standing up but maybe the the boot i imagine would provide some sort of um compression or something like that that is going to keep it from swelling up and blessing further discomfort so some people are like go don't go deep sea fishing then okay i don't know let the man live his life he says he's fine seriously yes yeah yeah that's also the guy's like you shouldn't be fishing anyways you should be training gotta get better do interesting three interceptions and playoffs all day every day so try to get a catch why don't you help your receivers make a catch that's oh there's your promo down there it is don't i'm not saying i'm being facetious anyway that's also one more note for you when it comes to netflix we had the quarterback series now the receiver series and it premieres today they held the actual premiere painting and all the stars um for out just in jefferson uh devonta adams uh so it premieres tonight so yeah and we talked about it yeah i'm gonna watch we talk about justin jefferson um earlier i thought the quarterback one was very interesting i enjoyed it uh i wish they could have done another quarterback one i i think it's interesting that position and what it takes into but this is an interesting position we get kiddell in there george kiddell's great personality yeah well is that the premiere i think devonta adams is probably one justin jefferson i don't know a much about amon raw st brown's personality no he has a podcast with his brother but um so yeah it's you know and then you got uh what debo samuel who i think probably has a good person and this can be interesting with him because he was coming off all the contract stuff and yep so uh this hour brought to you by zero res smart lasting clean what you got for tripled up miked up we have a trade deadline looming what are the braids going to do is it possible everybody's stinking corner out filter is it possible a pitcher who could also be acquired that's coming up next to miked up morning shift sports radio night tonight again i roll along here on the morning shift and uh yeah we have a tripled up version of like that game three tonight braids out there in the desert what's it was like 117 degrees out there thankfully yeah the roof but it's a dry heat it's a stupidity listen to miked up it's time to rant it's time to rage it's time for miked up on the morning shift what is it only about uh two and a half weeks uh two and a half weeks of shopping days until the uh measly baseball trade deadline and uh where the braids going to go is it possible do they go out and get a pitcher we certainly perhaps need a corner out filter but when you get michael harris back kara kelnick has been playing quite well in the lead off spot right are you just going to be happy with a platoon and uh left or right field is that is that going to be an issue do you want a shortstop i would love to get a shortstop boba shett might be available serviceable club yeah pretty good pretty good stick but uh the braids uh best prospect might be nacho alveres one of my favorite names ever and he's he's he's tearing it up in uh in the minor leagues uh there's some intriguing uh would you get a pitcher yeah i wouldn't be opposed to it um i know mike bell mike bell would love to go out and get like nine pitchers i think when well yeah because pitching's been their problem so far um i wouldn't be opposed to but also wouldn't be opposed to the pitcher being a bullpen arm um i wouldn't be opposed to i wouldn't be opposed to having two guys that are closer caliber players i know i know that mentor through the the the rare three pitch inning uh last night to close the game the immaculate inning um no that's a nine pitch uh strikeout anymore yeah i don't know what you would call a three pitch inning i don't know what the word for it is but um but i i i would i wouldn't mind another guy to give a glacier some time off and maybe have mentor remember remember the key to that world series win in 21 i know the momentum all that crap you can talk about the reality situation was your hitters were hot yeah and you're six seven eight and nine uh bulping guys you you basically the starters were going five innings other than max and and wortner and they're locked it down yeah so ghosts go get me another closer caliber guy i like that idea i want to short stop though or or see uh this is why i think the all-star game is meaningless he was an all-star bright elder was an all-star last year yeah so it just doesn't mean a whole lot to me it's also based on you know uh christian walk i think his name uh the the first baseman in uh arizona yeah he's a he's an all-star look at his numbers he's an all-star but guess what he's not because the Mets had to have a representative so they gave it to Petal Anza so that that's part of your look i don't have a problem with that um i don't have a problem going to get in a short stop i i'm but i'm not sold that Eddie Rosario and Adam Duvall or my outfield piece before i i don't think so either and why but they they just look well look at their numbers from their fan yeah their kind of journey their journeyman basically i mean they're they're they're distinct they're distinguished pros but they're journey do you know where they're big names Adam Duvall and Eddie Rosario are big names in one city here at lanta that's it because they were a part of that retooling in 21 that helped us win the world series and Eddie Rosario I mean NVP of the NLCS dude he just went nuts i mean your your outfield went from left to right Rosario um uh Duvall in center and then depending on where you were so laro had to be in right yeah uh or jock depending on you know it was jock at times that's not jock is the only one that's a starting caliber player to this point at this point in his career i mean so laro technically is but he's hitting like 220 yeah um so i he's gonna be hit or miss what do you have 48 he had that one year he had 48 homers or something ridiculous like that i think the next maybe two seasons before he got traded but that's a feast or famine type bath though with him i would rather test the waters with nacho bringing him up it short and get a corner out filter um what do you bring nacho up early and see if he can somehow find his one on the postseason roster i don't know about that one i guess what i would tell you is that if if i have rcs glove yeah with a hit here in there and he is a guy that's gonna be like Duvall where he's gonna get a hot streak he's like the throwback type of shortstop back in day short stops like mark the land or they're expected to have a good glove and anything you get offensively from them is a bonus and then cal ripkin kind of revolutionized position then comes of course jeter and uh a rod when he was a shortstop as well when you had a bigger guy that could uh also hit for power so what you're telling me is rc is roffio billiard on steroids pretty much no no no he's not on steroids it's just a good holistic diet well i just meant you know i know what you're saying yeah but not really he's not on any performance enhancing drug i know i'm not saying that just saying he's if he is he needs to go back to his pharmacist because they working well i think the eye hand coordination is what yeah or the the discipline uh but i would go i would go corner out filter uh bull pin caliber closer caliber arm and a shortstop yeah now that being said i'm also not opposed again a starter i'm really not but it depends on what you get i mean there who's that left hander up in uh chicago uh garrick crochet in the lefty uh crochet yeah crochet he's uh he's young not making much money and he's pitched really well in june i i also though want to know what you've got to give up what you got to give up and what do you have to uh to give up he is like our farm system isn't as lush and deep as it used to be when it might be able he's guilty of this and he knows it when you say i don't care about prospects go find me another player today what you have to be careful on is here's the deal alex is not getting a rental for one yeah but for two you have to have these guys in triple and double a that you can bring up to start like this year is living proof oh yeah if you've got to have a couple guys for spot starts yeah and if strider doesn't have this is if strider doesn't have the the injury um you're probably still working in in some ways in a six-man rotation depending on how you wanted to do it but the fact of the matter is rob a schwellenbach a spent shauver an elder um i'm missing one more guy none of those guys are going to be down there now you also though having an anerson coming back and i think whether whatever you think about that that definitely plays in their plans on a trade because they see that as a trade they see that as getting a guy back like he traded somebody well certainly it's going to be he's going to be very very active i don't know which way he's going to necessarily go so you're number one need though probably corner out filter and maybe a short stop i'm really leaning short stop but i don't want to sacrifice the defense so because up the middle it's so important yeah and if you could get that's my point with it if you can get that corner out filter um your your middle and your entire infield really is a bunch of gold lovers hmm with a whether Austin Rowley's been given one or not he's still to these these these gold glove caliber yeah so that's why i would go corner out filter yeah well you're almost there because the trade deadline is July 30 looming so inching closer and closer and we are inching closer and closer to the wake up call it's on the other side you can call set four four seven two six oh nine two nine what do you make of this falcons off start packing it is time for the wake up call you can call set four four seven two six oh nine two nine you can weigh in on mikes uh our robs version of mike duck uh discussing what the brave should do with trade deadline approaching and what do they need you can give us your thoughts you can also tell us about what you think about the falcons off season grade according to uh yahoo sports and they actually gave them a d so if you want to stop off on that give us a shout that's what the wake up call is for uh the new gladiator movie you were just talking about yeah um someone sent me the trailer yesterday and um when's it coming out uh that's a good question it's gonna come out soon let me see the release it's not gonna be a holiday release gotta be it's gotta be summer blockbuster thing right well i think right for that at least it's not another damn marvel movie i think uh i think the summer blockbuster part would um already be gone november 22nd so it's gonna be a thanksgiving release that's okay thanksgiving fantasy gladiator i'd be all over that last to be right before was uh they were doing it because what is this like the i don't know if it's like the 20th anniversary of that movie or whatever it is but russell crow is doing a sit down interview talking about it is just like 24 years ago that that's what um talking about how it's just one of the you know best movies he's ever done how it basically springboarded um you know a lot of people's careers everyone that had a role in that movie played it so well and he said he wished that um every young actor would get an opportunity to have a movie like that on the resume but i just thought it was so cool and he also brought up how you know there's they they show that movie they were showing it in new york on some like big screen um i forget where and everyone just stops what they're doing to watch it well anytime it's on you're gonna watch it it's one of those for me that's one of the greatest moments in in cinema history to me when when he like he's like reveal yourself and he turns around and he's like you know my name is maximus desperately merdeus uh what commander to a fallen army father to a murdered son husband to a murdered wife yes we'll get my vengeance this life or the next or the next oh that's great um so yeah i was watching you know denzell's in it denzell is kind of it's very from the trailer yeah from the trailer that i've not seen the movie i've not seen a free screen it's obviously months away from the first trailer's release what role is he playing he's going to be remember uh Oliver Reed who uh the actor Oliver Reed played proximus yeah who was Oliver Reed i think died right after the filming of that he died in the middle of it at some point um i just i just read that so i really didn't know until i read it i was looking at that very well yeah but um he's gonna be that he's gonna be that that character ask where he's and and Lucius uh the member the kid yeah is going to be the main character uh and it's it's seemingly going to be in a Connie Nielsen uh is coming back she's reprising her role from it so it's going to be very similar in a lot of ways Pedro Pasquale Pasquale i wonder if Russell Crowe being a kind of like as a ghost or something well they're gonna be a spiritual guide to Lucius are they gonna do like cgi like take like 150 pounds off of him yeah they kick his Russell Crowe eight Russell Crowe i'm fighting mad he's on that Elton John diet didn't he he's another one that used to when they were shooting whatever it was down here i would be on the belt line or walking somewhere and i'm like did i just see Russell Crowe Pasquale on a bike and uh yeah he ended up hanging out with some people that i that i knew but was he pedaling it or was he no he was pedaling a bike like they would all just ride through i think it ran into um sweating gravy he was what was he dining in uh one of the rest it was like Barcelona or something like that it was i was like man that's uh it's crazy Russell Russell Russell Crowe kind of reminds me of like the actor version of Nickelback like he did some good stuff but everybody everybody criticizes Russell Crowe i like Russell Crowe i've heard a lot of stuff well he's easy he's a he's an ogre angry well he was make out he's a don't make eye contact when we type a guy i think do you do you think he was actually playing his the real remember in la confidential um wasn't la confidential the the cop movie with um i think that was it yeah he was really good in that movie but he was kind of like the meathead detective yeah Kim kim basinger was in that movie uh dane davito kevin spacey that's a really good movie but it's like about the 50s or 60s uh la yeah um really good movie but he kind of i kind of feel like kind of a film noir vibe do it to i think kind of feel like that's who he is kind of like the meat kind of let's go to the lines we got daniel waiting on us and tucker good morning three morning show family squid billy what's up buddy mr blackman hello mike how you doing thank you uh yeah so hey man i don't know what these folks were smoking uh when they wrote this draft grade or whatever um obviously i don't know if they paid attention to the last couple seasons we've had a you know here in atlanta with the thousands and um the biggest thing needing to address the quarterback problem you know i mean i understand everybody being upset you know of course signing cousins and then dropping penics but you know like i was telling the buddy of mine you know god forbid but what if cousins goes down what if he blows the key leaves again anything can happen to where we have to have somebody else who is ready i like taylor honey keys but you know i feel like course penic even though he's a rookie he can be a little bit more of a solid guy you know then um you know then then then honey key is at the same time i have a question who's the corner that's on that's the opposite of aj to rill well it's uh it's actually a question that we don't have an answer to yet if we don't know daniel who is going to take that spot what i would tell you is i believe personally that their clark phillips is going to have a go at that and their and mike hues is going to be the guy that plays that nickel because mike hues played pretty well late last years in the nickel but they might decide to flip them and clark phillips maybe could have gotten that that do lack of experience more anything else but he certainly has as they'd like to say that dog in him and don't forget the offer still on this team and he'll on this team he'll have uh some kind of role i'm assuming but yeah i mean it's a good question look and the whole the whole the pass rush thing like i'm not going to sit here and act like what i didn't that i didn't say what i did in april and may and and june is the fact that i would have rather having a had a uh you know a defensive player that could have started today in that first pick there's no doubting that but don't say the things that you say in this this word salad garbage article where you salad garbage article where you say uh that you criticize you criticize offensive stars for not playing well when they didn't have anything that the delivery system was flawed and so you can't do that if you if you can't do that when they went out and it did everything literally their entire delivery system and arguably philosophy yeah and all they did was try to rectify that so i i don't i don't like talking on both sides of your mouth when it comes to that the defense is still kind of an unknown of what it's gonna look like we saw it a little like early last year then injuries and a bad offense really stressed it and it crumbled like no i mean it's uh it's a off-season list but i know a lot of people agree with that and you can sound off on it if you want to four four seven two six oh nine two nine that is what the wakeup call uh is for but uh are you going to go i know you'll probably be traveling uh well actually what what is the um trying to think about the falcon schedule how that memorized but you know you said thanksgiving week i know i'll probably be on the road but i haven't gone to a movie theater in in ages um yeah it's been a minute but i might consider a lot of people like that so i think people are starting to slowly get back to going to the uh textual the 22nd will actually be i believe the thursday um or the friday it's friday because the 23rds of uh saturday okay so it's the friday before um thanksgiving so you'll have a uh maybe basically six days before that's our bye week so you can go see this movie so i could go see the movie friday saturday night sunday well you know i might i might either go uh they have like 10 a.m sunday showings these days i'd really do i'd go see that before the nfl action kicked off now i'll probably go friday night i i i i saw the original gladiator um i was a junior and we was like when we had you know we get early release that last week of high school yep i remember seeing it like a thursday or friday uh we got early release and we went and saw it i was a junior in high school and i just was blown away by that movie in the theater god you're young i think i was passing a kidney stone on that same day uh hey you've been young then too jonty murray uh is a big gladiator fan i don't know uh i can tell you what he's probably not a fan of and it might just be uh his former team he's with the pelicans now and he did an interview with the social media team and kind of gave his thoughts on what it's like to uh be on a team like the pelicans i value uh just playing the right way and playing the right way is you know defense win championships obviously you gotta score the basketball too but uh just it's something for me like when i know i'm playing defense but also you got a group of guys playing defense it's just it's just something you can't teach uh in the feeling of that just knowing that we're competing on who's guarding the best guy or you knowing that you know you got your teammates back uh that's important so you know i love defense uh you know but it's it's a team thing you can have one guy playing defense or two and the rest nine nothing happened so you know i'm excited to come like i said his group all competes everybody wants to defend everybody wants to share the ball you know i pay attention every day well we clearly know who he's eluding to how many times you think he really just tried to really sit down and get to trade you know i thought about that because i think 40 tried twice and said well you're on your own i can't help you and i'm not completely throwing tray under the bus understand but there is a reputation out there well i don't think it's throwing so one of the buses to openly talk about what is perceived and what isn't you know i i think that it's it's part of a growth as a fan to to kind of be able to be critical about your favorite players right um you know in that's part of it and there's times where i haven't been and there's times where i've been better about it and i've gotten better about it but the fact of the matter is i'm sure he did early in that first season one of the things i was reading and you have that sound bite and he also said other things but one of the things i saw was that after his first season in Atlanta because he spent two seasons that rich paul called the pelicans and said you need to trade for disjante murray right now he's the guy for you he this is this is that and that tells me and that is disjante's agent from what i read in that article that tells me that disjante murray wanted out after the first season so i have a feeling that he did that uh a couple of times in that first season to your question robin then was like you know what i'm done but don't forget that trey young sold or signed off on the disjante murray deal in fact he says in his article i don't deal with disjante goes i don't deal with all season moves i'm not a gm i'm a player i play i don't get involved in front office decisions which to me is a shot at trey because trey flew out and met with disjante that all season and they talked about playing together and then trey signed off on it and if you don't realize you can go back and read it it was out there so that to me is another shot at trey and i'm not look he's very veiled with this we're reading into it we're doing what a lot of people hate and i know players hate is that you hear something and you play into it you take it out but how else am i supposed to take it after reading everything hearing everything and seeing how to do that to play understand what they mean i'm sorry you have to get to do that and you're also weighing in the fact that you you pointed out earlier he made other comments throughout the day so whereas you could look at the sound that we just played and it could be like no he's just purely talking about what it's like to be in a team just commenting all day huh but you said he's been set he was saying stuff throughout the whole media availability day yeah he he said multiple things that had direct ties to what happened here and i'm not a detective but i do watch those detective shows you know i've watched the first 48 a few times i know how you put pieces together and that look i'm trying to piece this together because no one talks on this team and it's my biggest frustration with with with the fact that trey talks so little to the open media is i feel like trey could control this narrative and say look here's what happened we didn't do this we didn't do that without without really he never really has any interest in it and talking very much about anything of substance for the most part he does on his podcast and then he takes shots at media members for for having to look the beginning of an opinion but the media member he took a shot at which is no longer in this city he was up in new york now and works for the athletic and that i have no issues with taking shots of that guy because that guy calls trouble here way too much with with stirring up stuff uh it's chris kersner and i'd say it was but but but he finally added somebody but the fact of the matter is is that i had no issues with that but but i just want to tell check dude well you can come on any with any outlet spoken print whatever in this market they'd love to have you and we'd love to hear more about what is going on with this team now with the mlb app the morning shift nice on sports radio 929 the game O2 from gallon and Duvall crushes it. No doubt her Duvall got it all a long hover and now it's five to nothing Atlanta here in the sixth. Adam Duvall helping to propel the braves to a win over the diamond back six to two that call courtesy of Valley sports and he got all his booty into that swing didn't he? Well when you throw an 80 mile an hour curve ball it just that just hangs it's like batting practice for that guy. I mean I guess basically it was a 3-1 blast and how about Chris sale five and a third solid innings and so yeah this braves now have a what four game winning streak you know what I'm going to call out somebody in this in this room right now because when we started this show you asked us if we were happy about that in one person not going to name names but they're sitting across from me. They're not whatever it's okay no no we need to get excited let's just have a little bit of fun. Why do I have to get excited? Because we've been sewing our fillings about this team and they go take two of three from the fillies the the the Diamondbacks have been like 10 games over 500 since June and we have been like three games over 500 or maybe just one game over 500 since June until this stretch let's be happy. Devolved seeming like he's hit we had some we had some time we hitting last night was the first time all season that I really recall early in a game the lineup was working counts they were taking pitches they weren't swinging at nonsense Aussie had in the bat last night that I was like this is the at bat that we need from this team they had they had Zach Galan over 50 pitches and two innings he's one of the best pitchers in baseball at home yes cell is over 60 they were both over 60 after three so they were both just they had to had to grind yeah grind for both of them well back to Adam Duvall this is what he's doing well at the plate according to him yeah yeah I mean I feel like you know I'm doing a good job not only of covering you know the outside corner again but I think the biggest thing is laying off the pitches the trap pitches you know two three inches off the plate in you know away and you know that's getting me into some better hitters counts and you know then I'm able to get them back into the zone so that's I mean you know it's a chess match with those guys I mean the good ones are good at it so they're gonna if you if you bite on that one that's just off the plate they're gonna keep throwing it so at some point you got to you know take that so I feel like I've been doing that and then like I said getting back into better counts was that Laramie Tunsel and his gas mask in the background first part of that Duvall in his last three games is six of 12 with two home runs four RBIs but the big number I take away from all that two strikeouts about say yep and that is key for him look I'm okay with being critical within reason you when you when you're critical when you call out what people are not doing as long as you're not the burn it down all is lost burn it down it's May it's June now it's July though and the team seems to be kind of getting a little bit this is a very important road trip Rob we talked about this that we wanted them to kind of get well especially consider what happened the last time that went out west yeah Seattle and LA and these are two teams that you've got to compete with with a wild card let's go in the huddle it's time to huddle up bring it in cold bring it in cold the latest NFL news rumors reports and happening with in the huddle brought to you by the good feed store premium art supports learn more at good feed.com on the morning shift Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson joined the rich isons show and he was asked whether or not he was mad about Kirk cousins leaving the Vikings and his response was yeah and no and when he was asked if he was surprised by the departure he said I always knew Kirk was going to do whatever he needs to do for his for himself business wise I just knew that everything was the way he wanted it to be here though especially chest with having to pay me and having to pay so many different guys I feel like he just wanted a new start a new opportunity to start with Atlanta and a clean slate I'm not mad at him at all for that I'm grateful for what he brought to me and the things we have accomplished together but at the end of the day it is a business you have to do what is best for yourself and your family I clearly understand it's on to the next is there any quarterback that's certainly maximized earning potential more than Kirk cousins no lord only one but he wasn't a starter and that's chase face Dan you've stayed in the league 17 years as a backup made 40 million bucks right something like that yeah now doing the media stuff he's got something coming out the inner senior athletic so yeah I think he does some NFL network appearances or he did before yeah I don't know if that will still be part of his deal but yeah they've been like a fire cell up there definitely been well for himself yeah but so so that that's it though I mean started wise it's it's Kurt and non-starter it's Chase Daniels I love Justin Jefferson I you know I don't know a lot about Jamar Chase because he seems to be a little bit more aloof or you just don't hear as much from him right but in that he's like Marvin Harrison quiet yeah and that's not a knock on him I just I just don't hear as much but Justin Jefferson is like he's kind of the guy he's the kind of receiver you want on your team right he didn't make a big see he wanted a new contract it didn't get out of hand with him the whole time you know the main thing he said last season was I won't Kirk cousins back I won't Kirk cousins back when he in that 2020 class um he no he was uh yes he was yes he was yes he was he was lamb who's been good um he came out after the 19 season because remember Jamar Chase set out 20 and then came out in the 21 is here I thought that was such a loaded class where's Henry Rogues now jail well the best receiver in that class is Justin Jefferson we thought Jerry Judy would be that guy and he's been me yeah and and that's the thing is Jefferson was been great yes but Jefferson was the other guy at LSU well right now Dak Prescott is still the guy in Dallas at the quarterback position and uh he's been in a precautionary walking boot and this first made the headlines because he was spotted wearing it I think on a on a boat out in Cabo he said that his ankle from the injury he previously had uh will tend to swell up when he goes deep sea fishing which is what he was doing so he's wearing the boot as a precaution uh and so uh he also is entering the final year of his contract uh which will pay him 29 million for the 2024 season so he dressed the contract talk saying that there have been conversations back and forth with the Cowboys but he's letting his agents handle the negotiations uh as for the walking boot well here's what he had to say honestly I'm getting older it's the same ankle right that that I snapped and had a nasty surgeon on four years ago so a couple of hard days of training and you know you get a little sore then you're going on a fishing trip and you want to protect it and and uh make sure that things don't get worse so literally it's it's absolutely nothing that's why uh it's what I said people people are reaching trying to make things that they aren't I'm getting older have to take care of my body have to be smart and uh if I can take precautions and lessening something about putting on a boot I'm gonna do it and so sorry that uh it could cause that's a worry I mean yeah because uh he asked me in the morning we're sitting there a couple of devious later they devoted like 25 minutes to it I've seen more time devoted to a state funeral than than Dak wearing a boot on vacation fishing it's like okay let it go uh okay I don't I don't I don't know his body he does so I'm gonna listen to what he's saying I just think wearing a boot on a boat is uncomfortable and not really where I want to wear a boot yeah we're meant to go spend his off season what he do what he usually does which is fun maybe the boot provides maybe we don't know who knows what he's been game fishing you know you got to protect it because you got to really get into it to get that fish in there and you're standing up standing up but maybe the the boot I imagine would provide some sort of um compression or something like that that is going to keep it from swelling up and blessing further discomfort so some people will like go don't go deep-sea fishing then well okay I don't know let the man live his life he says he's fine seriously yeah that's fine that's also the guy's like you shouldn't be fishing anyways you should be training got to get better do interview three interceptions and playoffs so try to get a catch why don't you help your receivers make a catch there's your promo down there it is don't don't I'm not saying I'm being facetious anyway that's also one more note for you when it comes to Netflix we had the quarterback series now the receiver series and it premieres today they held the actual premiere Peyton Manning and all the stars um for out Justin Jefferson uh Devonta Adams uh so it premieres tonight so yeah and we talked about yeah I'm gonna watch we talked about Justin Jefferson earlier I thought the quarterback one was very interesting I enjoyed it I wish they could have done another quarterback one I think it's interesting that position and what it takes into but this is an interesting position we get kiddle in there George kiddle's great personality yeah well is that the premiere I think Devonta Adams is probably one Justin Jefferson I don't know a much about a Mon Ross St. Brown's personality and he has a podcast with his brother but um so yeah it's you know and then you got uh what Debo Samuel who I think probably has a good person and this could be interesting with him because he was coming off all the contract stuff and yep so uh this hour brought to you by zero as smart lasting clean what you got for tripled up miked up we have a trade deadline looming what are the braids gonna do is it possible everybody's stinking corner outfielders a possible a pitcher who could also be acquired that's coming up next to miked up morning shift sports radio night tonight again the morning shift all of them are really really hot on sports radio 929 the game all right rolling along here on the morning shift and uh yeah we have a tripled up version yeah game three tonight Braves out there in the desert was it was like 117 degrees out there thankfully have the roof but it's a dry heat it's a stupidity listen to miked up it's time to rant it's time to rage it's time for miked up on the morning shift what is it only about uh two and a half weeks uh two and a half weeks of shopping days until the uh measly baseball trade deadline and uh where the braids gonna go is it possible do they go out and get a pitcher we certainly perhaps need a corner outfit or but when you get Michael Harris back Jared Kellnick has been playing quite well in the lead off spot right are you just going to be happy with the platoon and uh left or right field is that is that going to be an issue do you want a shortstop i would love to get a shortstop boba shit might be available serviceable club yeah pretty good pretty good stick but uh the braids of best prospect might be nacho Alvarez one of my favorite names ever and he's he's he's tearing it up and uh in the minor leagues uh there's some intriguing uh would you get a pitcher yeah i wouldn't be opposed to it um i know mike bell mike bell would love to go out and get like nine pitchers i think when well yeah because pitching's been their problem so far um i wouldn't be opposed to but also wouldn't be opposed to the pitcher being a bullpen arm um i wouldn't be opposed to i wouldn't be opposed to having two guys that are closer caliber players i know i know that menter through the the the rare three pitch inning uh last night to close the game the immaculate inning uh no that's a nine pitch uh strikeout anymore yeah i don't know what you would call a three pitch inning i don't know what the word for it is but um but i i would i wouldn't mind another guy to give a glacier some time off and maybe have mentor remember remember the key to that world series win in 21 i know the momentum all that crap you can talk about the reality situation was your hitters were hot yeah and you're six seven eight and nine uh bullpen guys you you basically the starters were going five innings other than max and and wortner and they're locked it down yeah so ghosts go get me another closer caliber guy i like that idea i want to short stop though or or see uh this is why i think the all-star game is meaningless he was an all-star bright elder was an all-star last year yeah so it just doesn't mean a whole lot to me it's also based on you know uh christian walker thinks his name uh the the first baseman in uh Arizona yeah he's uh he's an all-star look at his numbers he's an all-star but guess what he's not because the Mets had to have a representative so they gave it to people onzo yep so that that's part of your look i don't have a problem with that um i don't have a problem going to get in a short stop i'm but i'm not sold that eddie rizzario and adam devol or my outfilled piece before i i don't think so either and why but they they just look well look at their numbers they're fan yeah they're kind of journey they're journeyman basically i mean they're they're they're distinct they're distinguished pros but they're journey do you know where they're big names adam devol and eddie rizzario are big names in one city here at lanta that's it because they were part of that retooling in 21 that helped us win the world series and eddie rizzario i mean nvp of the nlc yes dude he just went nuts i mean your your outfilled went from left to right rizzario um uh devol and center and then depending on where you were so layer who had to be in right yeah uh or jock depending on you know it was jock at times that's not jock is the only one that's a starting caliber player to this point at this point in his career i mean so layer technically is but he's hitting like 220 yeah um so i he's gonna be hit or miss what do you have 48 he had that when you already had 48 homers or something ridiculous like that i think the next maybe two seasons before he got traded but that's a feast or famine type bath though with him i would rather test the waters with nacho bringing him up it short and get a corner out filter um but you bring nacho up early and see if he can somehow find his one on the post-season roster i don't know about that one i guess what i would tell you is that if if i have rcs glove yeah with a hit here and there and he is a guy that's going to be like devol or he's going to get a hot streak he's like the throwback type of shortstop back in day short stops like mark the land or they're expected to have a good glove and anything you get offensively from them is a bonus and then cal ripkin kind of revolutionized position then comes of course jeter and uh a rod when he was a shortstop as well when you had a bigger guy that could uh also hit for power so what you're telling me is rcs rawfield bellyard on steroids pretty much no no no he's not on steroids it's just uh a good holistic diet well i just meant you know i know what you're saying yeah but not really he's not on any performance enhancing drug i know i'm not saying that just saying he's if he is he needs to go back to his pharmacist because they work and well i think the eye hand coordination is what yeah or the the discipline uh but i would go i would go corner out filter uh bull pin caliber closer caliber arm and a shortstop yeah now that being said i'm also not opposed to getting a starter i'm really not but it depends on what you can get i mean there who's that left hander up in uh chicago uh garrick crochet in the lefty uh crochet yeah crochet he's uh he's young not making much money and he's pitched really well in june i also though want to know what you've got to give up what you got to give up and what do you have to uh to give a he is like our farm system isn't as lush and deep as it used to be when it might be oh he's guilty of this and he knows it when you say i don't care about prospects go find me another player today what you have to be careful on is here's the deal Alex is not getting a rental for one yeah but for two you have to have these guys in triple and double a that you can bring up to start like this year is living proof okay if you've got to have a couple guys for spot stars yeah and if strider doesn't have this is if strider doesn't have the the injury um you're probably still working in in some ways in a six-man rotation uh depending on how you wanted to do it but the fact of the matter is rob a schwellenbach a spent shauver an elder um i'm missing one more guy none of those guys are going to be down there now you also though have Ian Anderson coming back and i think whether whatever you think about that that definitely plays in it or plans on a trade because they see that as a trade they see that as getting a guy back like he traded somebody well well certainly it's going to be he's going to be very very active i don't know which way he's going to necessarily go so you're number one need though probably corner out filter and maybe a short stop i'm really leaning short stop but i don't want to sacrifice the defense so because up the middle it's so important yeah and if you could get that's my point with it if you can get that corner out filter um you're your middle and your entire infield really is a bunch of gold lovers hmm um whether or other austin rowdy's been given one or not he's still to these these these gold glove caliber yeah so that's why i would go corner out filter yeah well you're almost there because the trade deadline is july 30th looming so inching closer and closer and we are inching closer and closer to the wake up call it's on the other side you can call us at 4 4 7 2 6 0 9 2 9 what do you make of this falcon's off season grade by yahoo sports that we discussed a bit earlier give us a shout let us know wake up call is next on the morning shift on sports radio 9 to 9 the game morning shift time for the show on sports radio 929 the game so i'm into our eight o'clock 7 2 6 0 9 2 9 you can weigh in on mike's uh our robs version of mike up uh discussing what the brave should do with the trade deadline approaching and what do they need you can give us your thoughts you can also tell us about what you think about the falcons off season grade according to uh yahoo sports and they actually gave them ad so if you have yahoo that's latin for hack give us a shout that's what the wake up call is for the new gladiator movie you were just talking about yeah um someone sent me the trailer yesterday and um when's it coming out uh that's a good question it's gonna come out soon let me see the release it's not gonna be a holiday release gotta be it's gotta be summer blockbuster thing right well i think right for that at least it's not another damn marva movie i think uh i think the summer blockbuster part would um already be gone november 22nd so it's gonna be a thanksgiving release that's okay thanksgiving i see gladiator i'd be all over that you know russell crow was uh they were doing it because what is this like the i don't know if it's like the 20th anniversary of that movie or whatever it is but russell crow is doing a sit down interview talking about it is just like 24 years ago that that's what um talking about how it's just one of the you know best movies he's ever done how it basically springboarded um you know a lot of people's careers everyone that had a role in that movie played it so well and he said he wished that um every young actor would get an opportunity to have a movie like that on the resume but i just thought it was so cool and he also brought up how you know there's they show that movie they were showing it in new york on some like big screen um i forget where and everyone just stops what they're doing right to watch it well anytime it's on you're gonna watch it it's one of those for me that's one of the greatest moments in in cinema history to me when when he like he's like reveal yourself and he turns around and he's like you know my name is Maximus desmos from merdeus uh what commander to a fallen army father to a murdered son husband to a murdered wife yes we'll get my vengeance this life or the next or the next oh yes great um so yeah i was watching you know denzel's in it denzel is kind of it's it's very from the trailer yeah from the trailer that i've not seen the movie i'd not a free screen it's obviously months away from the first trailer's release what role is he playing he's going to be remember uh Oliver Reed who uh the actor Oliver Reed played proximus yeah who was Oliver Reed i think died right after the filming of that he died in the middle of it at some point um i just i just read that so i really didn't know until i read it i was looking at that very well yeah but um he's gonna be that time he's gonna be that that character ask where he's and and Lucius uh the member the kid yeah is going to be the main character uh and it's it's seemingly going to be in a Connie Nielsen uh is coming back she's reprising her role from it so it's going to be very similar in a lot of ways Pedro Pasquale Pasquale I want a Brussels crow being a kind of like as a ghost or something well they're gonna be a spiritual guide to Lucius are they gonna do like CGI like take like 150 pounds off of him yeah they can because Russell crow ate Russell crow i'm fighting mad he's on that elton john diet didn't he he's another one that used to when they were shooting whatever it was down here i would be on the belt line or walking somewhere and i'm like did i just see Russell crow pass me on a bike and uh yeah he ended up hanging out with some people that i that i knew but was he pedaling it or was he no pedaling a bike like they would all just ride through he's i think it ran into um sweat and gravy he was what was he dining in uh one of the rest it was like Barcelona or something like that it was i was like man that's uh it's crazy Russell Russell Russell Row Russell crow kind of reminds me of like the the actor version of nickel back like he did some good stuff but everybody everybody criticizes Russell crow i like Russell crow i've heard a lot of stuff well he's easy he's a he's an ogre angry well he was he's a don't make eye contact when we type a guy i think do you think he was actually playing his the real remember in la confidential um wasn't la confidential the the cop movie with um i think that was it yeah he was really good in that movie but he was kind of like the meat head detective yeah Kim kim basinger was in that movie uh danny devito kevin spacey that's a really good movie but it's like about the 50s or 60s uh la yeah um really good movie but he kind of i kind of feel like kind of a film noir vibe do it to i think kind of feel like that's who he is kind of like the meat let's go to the lines we got daniel waiting on us and tucker good morning good morning morning show family squibbilly what's up buddy mr blackman hello mr mike how you're doing thank you yeah so hey man i don't know what these folks were smoking uh when they wrote this draft grade or whatever um obviously i don't know if they paid attention to the last couple seasons we've had a you know here in atlanta with the thousands and um the biggest thing needing to address the quarterback problem you know i mean i understand everybody being upset you know of course signing cousins and then dropping pinets but you know like i was telling the buddy of mine you know god forbid but what if cousins goes down what if he blows the key leaves again anything can happen to where we have to have somebody else who is ready i like taylor heineke's but you know i feel like course pinnock even though he's a rookie he can be a little bit more of a solid guy you know then um you know then then then heineke is at the same time i have a question who's the corner that's on that's the opposite of a.j. tarrell well it's uh it's actually a question that we don't have an answer to yet because we don't know daniel who is going to take that spot what i would tell you is i believe personally that their clark phillips is going to have a go at that and their and mike hues is going to be the guy that plays that nickel because mike hues played pretty well late last year's in the nickel but they might decide to flip them and clark phillips maybe could have gotten a do lack of experience more anything else but he certainly has as they'd like to say that dog in him and don't forget d alford still on this team and he'll have uh some kind of role i'm assuming but i mean it's a good question look and the whole the whole the pass rush thing like i'm not going to sit here and act like what i didn't that i didn't say what i did in april and may and and june is the fact that i would have rather having a had a uh you know a defensive player that could have started today and that first pick there's no doubting that but don't say the things that you say in this this word salad garbage article where you salad garbage article where you say uh that you criticize you criticize offensive stars for not playing well when they didn't have anything to the delivery system was flawed and so you can't do that if you if you can't do that when they went out and it did everything literally their entire delivery system and arguably philosophy yeah and all they did was try to rectify that so i i don't i don't like talking out of both sides your mouth when it comes to that the defense is still kind of an unknown of what it's gonna look like we saw it a little like early last year then injuries and a bad offense really stressed it and it crumbled like no i mean it's uh it's a off-season list but i know a lot of people want agree with that and you can sound off on it if you want to 404 7260929 that is what the wake up call is for but uh are you gonna go i know you'll probably be traveling uh well actually what what is the um trying to think about the falcon schedule how that memorized but you know you said thanksgiving week i know i'll probably be on the road but i've been gone to a movie theater in in ages um yeah it's been a minute but i might consider a lot of people like that so i think people are starting to slowly get back to going to the uh actual the 22nd will actually be i believe the thursday or the friday it's friday because the 23rds uh saturday okay so it's the friday before um thanksgiving so you'll have a uh maybe basically six days before that's our bi-week so you can go see this movie so i could go see the movie friday saturday night sunday well you know i might i might either go uh they have like 10 a.m sunday showings these days i truly do i'd go see that before the NFL action kicked off now i'll probably go friday night i i i i i saw the original gladiator um i was a junior and we was like when we had you know we get early release that last uh week of high school i remember seeing like a thursday or friday uh we got early release and we went and saw it i was a junior in high school and i just was blown away by that movie in the car you're young i think i was passing a kidney stone on that same day uh i you could have been young then too the gente muri uh is a big gladiator fan i don't know uh i can tell you what he's probably not a fan of and it might just be uh his former team he's with the pelicans now and he did an interview with the social media team and kind of gave his thoughts on what it's like to uh be on a team like the pelicans i value uh just playing the right way and playing the right way is you know defense win championships obviously you got to score the basketball too but uh just it's something for me like when i know i'm playing defense but also you got a group of guys playing defense it's just it's just something you can't teach uh in the feeling of that just knowing that we're competing on who's guarding the best guy or you knowing that you know you got your teammates back uh that's important so you know i love defense uh you know but it's it's a team thing you can have one guy playing defense or two and the rest nine nothing happens so you know i'm excited to come like i said this group all competes everybody wants to defend everybody wants to share the ball you know i pay attention every day well we clearly know who he's alluding to how many times do you think he really just tried to really sit down and get to trade you know i thought about that because i think 40 tried twice and said well you're on your own i can't help you and i'm not completely throwing a train to the bus understand but there is a reputation out there well i don't think it's throwing someone in the bus to just openly talk about what is perceived and what isn't you know i i think that it's it's part of a growth as a fan to to kind of be able to be critical about your favorite players right um you know and that's part of it and there's times where i haven't been and there's times where i've been better about it and i've gotten better about it but the fact of the matter is i'm sure he did early in that first season one of the things i was reading and you have that sound bite and he also said other things but one of the things i saw was that after his first season in Atlanta because he spent two seasons that rich paul called the pelicans and said you need to trade for de jante murray right now he's the guy for you he this is this this is that and that tells me and that is de jante's agent from what i read net article that tells me that de jante murray wanted out after the first season so i have a feeling that he did that uh a couple of times in that first season to your question robin then was like you know what i'm done but don't forget that trey young sold or signed off on the de jante murray deal in fact he says in his article i don't deal with de jante goes i don't deal with all season moves i'm not a gm i'm a player i play i don't get involved in front office decisions which to me is a shot at trey because trey flew out and met with de jante that all season and they talked about playing together and then trey signed off on it and if you don't realize you can go back and read it it was out there so that to me is another shot at trey and i'm not look he's very veiled with this we're reading into it we're doing what a lot of people hate and i know players hate is that you hear something and you play into it you take it out but how else am i supposed to take it after reading everything hearing everything and seeing how to do that to play understand what they mean i'm sorry you have to get to do that and you're also weighing in the fact that you you pointed out earlier he made other comments throughout the day so whereas you could look at the sound that we just played and it could be like no he's just purely talking about what it's like to be in a team with his comment all day huh but you said he's been set he was saying stuff throughout the whole media availability day yeah he he said multiple things that had direct ties to what happened here and i'm not a detective but i do watch those detective shows you know i've watched the first 48 a few times i know how you put pieces together and that look i'm trying to piece this together because no one talks on this team and it's the biggest frustration with with with the fact that trey talks so little to the open media is i feel like trachid control this narrative and say look here's what happened we didn't do this we didn't do that without without really he never really has any interest in it and talking very much about anything of substance for the most part he does on his podcast and then he takes shots at media members for for having to look the big having an opinion but the media member he took a shot at which is no longer in this city he was up in New York now works for the athletic and that i have no issues with taking shots of that guy because that guy calls trouble here way too much with with stirring up stuff uh it's chris kersner and i'd say it was but but but he finally added somebody but the fact of the matter is is that i had no issues with that but but i just want to tell shit dude whoa you could come on any with any outlet spoken print whatever in this market they'd love to have you and we'd love to hear more about what is going on with this team but other than that he doesn't care about anything local though he's national but then then at least us speculating and fillings get learned so you can't have it yeah wait it was the same you can have your cake and eat it too guess you can if you're a multi-millionaire but whatever dude dude okay uh so um we got a life of squid coming out what you got uh there was an article came out about ranking NFL logos where who's number one which would i want to know what y'all's favorite NFL logo is helmet logo next on the morning shift sports radio 99 game and the odyssey app this hour brought to you by mark spain will say go to mark spain.com the other year to offer your home today and start packing we do have an interview with former gm of the New York Mets and Orioles joining us uh on the other side and a little bit and it is Jim DuCette of MLB network radio so he's also an analyst on MLB network so we'll hear from him and you guys will lead into that uh with some braves talk yeah look they won their four straight i know it's exciting for me maybe not trouble needs a little bit more trouble needs six seven straight seven be your number is that your magic number seven to be oh no it when i see it don't be i want i want to see them win a couple of more games if uh when they give up four runs i want to see that explode i don't necessarily want to see it starting pitching or the pitching in general maybe giving up that much that many runs but i want to see that i want to see more of what i saw the other day in game one when they tie the game in the ninth inning then win it in the tenth inning we haven't seen a lot of post seventh inning magic out of this team either i want that yeah that's uh you know what i i that sounded bad point whatsoever um i loved the conversation you hadn't and tripled up about you know what is your number one need and i hadn't because you got me thinking and our bullpen has been pretty good um you got guys like pierce johnson you'll bummer is here in here but for the most part uh him and bummer's not been bad no he's not but he he'll have well we saw him a lot of times when the game was kind of out of reach maybe is what it was not high leverage situation right he goes with the game yeah if it's a tight game he seems to pitch okay and if it's a game that's kind of loosey goosey and you know a lot of scorn he kind of plays into it but pierce johnson's been good him and s has been good mentors back mentor like really sharp last night three pitches three outs uh including one really good play about riley that's sufficient right yeah he pitches three outs and i didn't want that after the out at first because it was hit to alson he has the cover yeah he looks over at alson and he looks at uh the and he holds his finger up with three he was like three because i think three pitches um but yeah i think i think another high leverage reliever would help this team as well i just think that this is like what you said a lever would close her quality stuff yeah because which means they could be slotted as a setup man now with some team that might sell but we don't know with expanded playoffs it's not as clear anymore as it used to be can i ask you a question i need an answer i need an answer though does a aj mentor has not done well in the closer spot right but doesn't he have closer stuff you could make that argument sure so it's a mentality could be so i guess what i'm saying is i mean psychologically that's pretty difficult to be a closer because if you uh if you crap the bed and blow a save well you might you have to be expected to get out there tomorrow you have to have that yeah memory of a goldfish sort of thing in that 21 uh say uh playoff run it everybody had a set role is like you know you would have um have one guy coming to six and mass it would be like seven and a mentor would kind of be eight and then uh you have um what's our uh our old clothes a wheelsmith coming at night but see if you had another closer type stuff guy you could kind of flip them right like you could if mentor could come in based on that jobs right i mean but those guys are so particular about their roles and everything else and their routines if you uh have two closers of post-season that could be yeah well i think you would go with one i think you i think you would leave a glacius but you could have another guy in that eight spot the mentor and then other guy could flip flop seven and eight you could have uh dual setup men basically yeah yeah depending on the lineup right lefty lefty lefty stuff pitching's like the last thing i'm worried about on this team it's it's offense it is it is um because offense is what's filled with last two post-seasons yeah as bad as you know people can talk about the pitching but i mean you couldn't score the last two years on philadelphia's pitching um and you couldn't hit and your pitching wasn't that strider lost two games last post-season he was good in both outings he wasn't that bad he gave up on a two run homer and three run homer the sixth inning yeah and but you're not scoring so that makes that even more egregious seeming that he gave up gave that up but you weren't scoring he did not pitch that badly nope not at all all right dalon it's time for a look back into the mind of squid billing hey he might even talk sports this is the life of squid on the morning shift brought to you by the w sauce and status truck and trailer repair driven by excellence building successful partnerships it's right get over it brob you've got to text me so there's your cut there's your cut there's more where that came from tiffany um don't forget my friends the status truck and trailer repair my boy anthony big truck small truck medium-sized truck you know what don't matter it may do somebody hit your truck deputy you can go to town and check you out there you know what i think we can if you want to put you want to put a fifth wheel in elkamino hell we'll do that call anthony official truck and trailer prayer squared nation you know we got elk we got lots of elkaminos in the nation rock we are the nation all right i i i don't know why but the generation i'm in we love uniform talk we love a logo talk we love to criticize and i think it's always been the case though i i don't know if i disagree because i know we you and i were just talking and you had lots of opinions on it which i like because we're clearly just slightly different generations i believe well braves powder blue uniforms back in the day they donated them to us i i wore the powder blues at west georgia because we were the braves back then really donated them to us they also donated us the home whites but our but our head coach at the time uh said well you have to play well to earn them well we never wore the whites so what number were you 23 so whose number did you get i think that was maybe tommy erin the henry erin's uh brother who's a first base coach on the team that's pretty freaking cool yeah did you know i didn't get to keep it no i i wonder if they still have them wow and i never got my letter either i'm jumping on your segment my back now i never got my college letter either i want to do that i want to put it on a sweater i want to do a letterman sweater like old school oh you got to wear it when you have your uh your professor-y look that'd be awesome all right west georgia if you're listening and you're a part of west georgia we need to start the movement to get rob tribbles college letter you know if they do they make you uh donate like 75 bucks to get it even though i earn the letter you know can we can we can we can we get send you can we raise 75 dollars in this room for ros if i go for me so i get my letter we got you rob you know i know a lot of powerful people that west georgia i got you as a distinguished west georgia love myself that is true that is true i got you you better get on that right now i'll make the calls when i taught you that four o'clock you better be like hey i got some information on ros letter i'll have it for you all right that's outstanding real quick though uh the number one logo for you guys nfl oh uh i well right now like it's just forever it can be forever ooh uh i was gonna say i actually did enjoy uh because i the patrons and dolphins little rivalry thing going so i i did like the patrons old old yeah yeah yeah so from the ladies yes and that's your dad so that's kind of that's really cool i did like that one but then let me think again logo rob what what what i just go for anything classic even the teams i hate like the cowboys and stealers i still love those old logos i do like the cowboys old logos that's an astalgian uh the old romantic nfl and the falcons by the way old logo you need to go back to that you need to go back the most epic uniform the falcons ever had the white pants black jersey red helmet with the gold gold stripe on top and the red and the black you know the gold stripe is an homage to george attack and and the red of course to georgia that's what that's what's cold blood and that old logo see i like the um the red uh the red jersey like that too the red helmet and the silver bridges i like those two that was eighties yeah without i but yeah with that eighties load the the falcon because the stuff they were now is just ridiculous looking to me it looks like arena football i can't stand it why does nike you have to add a stripe on down this down the side of every uniform out there i don't i have no wonder i have no idea i also like that i think i like the i think i like the rams new stuff i like the blue yeah i like an old school the rams old throwback and the rams old throwback with the white and the helmet oh yes yeah oh man all right when we come back we've got jim duket joining us and annals and mlb network and mlb network radio we'll find out some more info uh what's going on with your braves stay with us here in the morning shift on sports radio night time the game what are the hops let's go today the right way with the morning shift with tiffany mike and bow all right all right on sports radio nutty two nine the game we are back here on the morning shift and going straight to the wadeford.com hotline that is where we find former jim of the new york mattes in ball to more aureles and now analysts of mlb network and mlb network radio and series xm jim duket joining us this morning how's it going jim hey good morning guys how are you good good good to have you with us yeah appreciate you guys have me on jim uh i'm going to start right off the bat you know we've seen aa alex and thoughtless here in atlanta seem to have this knack for finding these reclamation projects right i mean josh donelson early chris cell we're not a lopez's um starting careers a starter i mean he even kind of did it with with the outfield where he retold it in 21 how is he so good at at finding these guys and and and then how are they so good at just knowing what they need to get them back to that form now i i mean you could throw jerry calinik in there right uh reclamation he had a excellent season i can't even believe rosario's back he doesn't hit anywhere else but but with the praise like come on what what's going on here you know so uh god listen alex alex is one of the best general managers in the game yeah he doesn't get a lot of attention because he's so he's a really humble guy he gives credit to so many other people rather than take you get himself i think he's also one of those guys who realizes if you do well and your win there's going to be no credit you know for everybody um and so you know that part of it is good i think it also you know listen organizationally they're set up really well i you know i've been on the meds and been in the meds front offices all those years i mean the braves it all feels like always have done this i know they went through a little stretch there uh where they weren't but i mean it's like every year they seem to find the right players they thought they really focus on makeup which some a lot of teams don't don't plays uh put as much attention on makeup matters and you see it with braves teams almost all the time and and that's what you have to i really appreciate from afar is you know they get talented players but they have the right mix in the cub house and and i think all that kind of plays into why the braves are so consistently good year after year jam along those lines uh what do you think they need to address what position should they address uh for the third deadline yeah i you know tiffy i think with them more than anything it's offense right now field more than more than um more than anything else too i i mean listen i think you know when michael harris comes back i don't know his timetable but that will obviously help a ton you know and hopefully get him back on track but you know i'd like to see do evolve but more into like a you know the fourth outfield role where he can play multiple uh you know positions kind of move around in the outfield give a guy a day off or two match him up against lefties and righties and he's been good don't get me wrong but just given some more uh some more depth out there would be would be number one i know their bullpen's been uh been really good here lately i think they've given up like two runs over the last uh two weeks or so so but as we saw in 21 you know they've rolled out those four relievers all the way to the world series and i think if they found one more reliever uh you know impactful guy i don't think you got to do much more than i know i know they often hasn't been perfect but like they're showing signs of of picking it up this month you know especially with riley swinging it well and hopefully also we'll get going so i don't know this has a has a vibe guys of 2021 i don't know if you guys feel that way too but it does from afar your answers were were excellent but you don't know what you've done here because opposed to your patting himself on the back he's like was jim listening to me no don't ever say those words so you just became my favorite guest jim you're our favorite guest you know what i'm doing once a week we gotta have jim on yeah right all of a sudden i'll be on once a week oh my goodness um well you talked about the deadline and look uh i i enjoy the money ball uh movie it's fun to watch it's entertaining but i don't for the life of me believe that that's the way the trade deadline i don't think brad pits starts having his secretary call can as a guy that's went through that what is that like i mean how early do you start these discussions on players and availability and price and and all of that yeah by the way money ball great movie totally unrealistic i mean that the eight team you know they had three really good starters and a short stop i think was mvp that year uh and they don't even get mentioned barely mentioned in the movie anyway all right so uh the trade deadline for me is one of those i mean it's it's why you enjoy the job as much because the the adrenaline the you know the you the days go by fast the adrenaline rush is there it's it's a it's a grind don't get me wrong but you know um and more so i think over the last few years a general manager can make a huge impact more of an impact on the team and i think ever just by bringing in guys uh to to that clubhouse and you know this changed a little bit over the last couple years because you can't make any real uh you know the waiver claims that we used to do in august you can't do those any any more uh you can you can pick up guys that have been released but that's generally you know players that have been struggling so the impact is now and it starts i mean it really starts at the beginning of june the phone calls but because of the way the the the wild card is structured and the number teams that were in it uh there hasn't been a lot of separation for post season you know buyers and sellers until recently so you know i think we've saw a trade last night with the Mets and a relief pitcher you know we saw one last week with starting pitcher with the brewers getting errand sabali from the rays rays have made two moves and i so it's starting to percolate it's still not going to really get active until after i think the all-star break next Tuesday or wednesday yeah i've always been curious for that and yeah i you know that's funny that you said that money ball i actually was it was on yesterday and i was i was tuning in and i i see tahata and i'm like oh yeah you forget he's on that team and he yeah Brad do watch like hey Timmy throw throw this more and i'm like yeah i'm sure he was talking to mutton um you mentioned uh you mentioned riley's heating up and he is i think he's got like nine home runs in some middle of june jim and you mentioned matt ults and i remember sitting here last year and we were around this time we were talking about the braves and how good they were offensively and i remember saying you go through the lineup and everyone's having a career year seemingly and now it's not that case and other than kelnik and ozuna is this kind of realistically what this offense is more of or are are they just been figured out a little bit on how to pitch this lineup i'm just searching for answers when people ask me jim no no listen it's it's a really good question because you know you go through these ups and downs as a as a hitter in the sport we've seen it a lot and you know i'm a kelnik it's a great example he didn't really take off until he got to Atlanta you know and and so but i i generally you know the guys that they type of track records even if that you know they'll go through they they might go through a first half that is a struggle but they figure it out eventually you know very really do you see you know really good players have a full season of of a decline like significantly worse than their in their career averages that's why it's like are you got to pick almost pick a certain time of the year like you picked with riley like i for me he went back you know and rest in peace mike brumley he went back and worked with mike brumley recently his old hitting coach and i think he got him on track um you know before mike passed away tragically and riley i think you picked that date from there to the end of this season i'm guessing your his numbers are going to be very close to what he was last year you know for as good a season as he had you know and so so it's it you know we kind of you know because of the length of the season it there's a lot of valleys as hitters and really the mental part of the of the game matters you know as much trying to get yourself out of those valleys as quickly as possible and maybe not make it as deep right and so i think that's where we are with riley in particular i'm not so sure you know oldson's always had a lot of swing and miss in the game anyway but i think oldson's power is starting to come too so you know albie's has had a good couple like at least the last week so let's do vaults so you know as long as you get three or in oh zoom is carried him as you guys know so i think if you have three or four you know carrying them and usually they're different you can kind of get through a season with a guy or two that have uh below average seasons jim great insight we appreciate you joining us and hopefully you got it that was former jim of the new york metz and should do with the trade deadline approaching and what do they need you can give us your thoughts you can also tell us about what you think about the falcons off-season grade according to uh yahoo sports and they actually gave them ad so if you have that's latin for hack give us a shout that's what the wake-up call is for uh the new gladiator movie you were just talking about yeah um someone sent me the trailer yesterday and um when's it coming out uh that's a good question it's gonna come out soon let me see if the release is not gonna be a holiday release gotta be it's gotta be summer blockbuster thing right right for that at least is not another damn marva movie i think uh i think the summer blockbuster part would um already be gone november 22nd so it's gonna be a thanksgiving release that's okay thanksgiving i see gladiator i'd be all over that you know russell crow was uh they were doing it because what is this like the i don't know if it's like the 20th anniversary of that movie or whatever it is but russell crow is doing a sit down interview talking about it is just like 24 years ago that that's what um talking about how it's just one of the you know best movies he's ever done how it basically springboarded um you know a lot of people's careers everyone that had a role in that movie played it so well and he said he wished that um every young actor would get an opportunity to have a movie like that on their resume but i just thought it was so cool and he also brought up how you know there's they showed that movie they were showing it in new york on some like big screen um i forget where and everyone just stops what they're doing right to watch it well anytime it's on you're gonna watch it it's one of those for me that's one of the greatest moments in in cinema history to me when in he like he's like reveal yourself and he turns around and he's like you know my name is Maximus desmos from merdeus uh what commander to a fallen army father to a murdered son husband to a murdered wife yes we'll get my vengeance in this life or the next or the next yes great um so yeah i was watching you know denzel's in it denzel is kind of it's very from the trailer yeah from the trailer that i've not seen the movie i'm not a free screen it's obviously months away from the first trailer's release what role is he playing he's going to be remember uh Oliver Reed who uh the actor Oliver Reed played proximus yeah who was Oliver Reed i think died right after the filming of that he died in the middle of the middle of the middle of some point um i did honestly i just read that so i really didn't know until i read it i was looking at that very well yeah but um denzel's gonna be that type he's gonna be that that character ask where he's and Lucius uh the member the kid yeah is going to be the main character uh and it's it's seemingly gonna be in a Connie Nielsen uh is coming back she's reprising her role from it so it's gonna be very similar in a lot of ways Pedro Pasquale Pasquale i want a brussel crow being kind of like as a ghost or something well they're gonna be a spiritual guide to Lucius are they gonna do like CGI like take like 150 pounds off of him yeah they kick his Russell pro eight Russell crow i'm fighting mad he's on that Elton John diet didn't he he's another one that used to when they were shooting whatever it was down here i would be on the belt line or walking somewhere and i'm like did i just see Russell crow pass me on a bike and uh yeah i ended up hanging out with some people that i that i knew but was he pedaling it or was he beddled no he was pedaling a bike like they would all just ride through i think it ran into um sweating gravy he was what was he dining in uh one of the rest it was like Barcelona or something like that it was i was like man that's uh it's crazy Russell Russell Russell row Russell crow kind of reminds me of like the the actor version of nickelback like he did some good stuff no no everybody everybody criticizes Russell karate like Russell crow i've heard a lot of stuff well he's easy he's a he's an ogre angry well he was he's a don't make eye contact when we type a guy i think do you think he was actually playing his the real remember in la confidential um wasn't la confidential the the cop movie with um i think that was it yeah he was really good in that movie but he was kind of like the meathead detective yeah Kim bacinger was in that movie uh dane davito kevin spacey that's a really good movie but it's like about the 50s or 60s uh la yeah um really good movie but he kind of i kind of feel like kind of a film noir vibe do it to i think kind of feel like that's who he is kind of like the meek let's go to the lines we got daniel waiting on us and tucker good morning evening morning show family squid billy what's up buddy mr blackman hello mike how you doing they do uh yeah so hey man i don't know what these folks were smoking uh when they wrote this draft grade or whatever um obviously i don't know if they paid attention to the last couple seasons we've had at you know here in atlanta with the falcons and um the biggest thing needing to address the quarterback problem you know i mean i understand everybody being upset you know of course signing cousins and then dropping penics but you know like i was telling the buddy of mine you know god forbid but what if cousins goes down like what if he blows the key leaves again anything can happen to where we have to have somebody else who is ready i like taylor heineke's but you know i feel like course penic even though he's a rookie he can be a little bit more of a solid guy you know then um you know then then then heineke is at the same time i have a question who's the corner that's on that's the opposite of a.j. torrell well it's uh it's actually a question that we don't have an answer to yet because we don't know daniel who is going to take that spot what i would tell you is i believe personally that their clark phillips is going to have a go at that and their and mike hues is going to be the guy that plays that nickel because mike hues played pretty well late last years in the nickel but they might decide to flip them and clark phillips maybe could have gotten a do lack of experience more anything else but he certainly has as they'd like to say that dog at him and don't forget the offer still on this team and he'll be on this team he'll have uh some kind of role i'm assuming but i mean it's a good question look and the whole the whole the pass rush thing like i'm not going to sit here and act like what i didn't that i didn't say what i did in april and may and and june is the fact that i would have rather having a had a uh you know uh a defensive player that could have started today and that first pick there's no doubting that but don't say the things that you say in this this word salad garbage article where you salad garbage article where you say uh that you criticize you criticize offensive stars for not playing well when they didn't have anything to the delivery system was flawed and so you can't do that if you if you can't do that when they went out and it did everything literally their entire delivery system and arguably philosophy yeah and all they did was try to rectify that so i i don't i don't like talking out of both sides of your mouth when it comes to that the defense is still kind of an unknown of what it's going to look like we saw it a little like early last year then injuries and a bad offense really stressed it and it crumbled like no i mean it's uh it's a off-season list but i know a lot of people agree with that and you can sound off on it if you want to four four seven two six oh nine two nine that is what the wakeup call uh is for but uh are you gonna go why you'll probably be traveling uh well actually what what is the um trying to think about the falcon schedule how that memorized but you know you said thanks giving week i know i'll probably be on the road but i've been gone to a movie theater in in ages um yeah it's been a minute but i might consider a lot of people like that though i think people are starting to slowly get back to going to the uh actual the 22nd will actually be i believe the thursday or the friday it's friday because the 23rds of uh saturday okay so it's the friday before um thanksgiving so you'll have a uh maybe basically six days before that's our bi-week so you can go see this movie so i could go see the movie friday saturday night sunday well you know i don't i might i might either go uh they have like 10 a.m sunday showings these days i'd really do i'd go see that before the nfl action kicked off not i'd probably go friday night i i i i saw the original gladiator um i was a junior and we was like when we had you know we get early release that last week of high school yeah i remember seeing like a thursday or friday uh we got early release and we went and saw it i was a junior in high school and i just was blown away by that movie in the theater i'd you're young i think i was passing a kidney stone on that same day uh i could have been yelling into jonte mary uh is a big gladiator fan i don't know uh i can tell you what he's probably not a fan of and it might just be uh his former team he's with the pelicans now and he did an interview with the social media team and kind of gave his thoughts on what it's like to uh be on a team like the pelicans i value uh just playing the right way and playing the right way is you know defense win championships obviously you got to score the basketball too but uh just it's something for me like when i know i'm playing defense but also you got a group of guys playing defense it's just it's just something you can't teach uh in the feeling of that just knowing that we're competing on who's guarding the best guy or you knowing that you know you got your teammates back uh that's important so you know i love defense uh you know but it's it's a team thing you can have one guy playing defense or two and the rest night and nothing happens so you know i'm excited to come like i said this group all competes everybody wants to defend everybody wants to share the ball you know i pay attention every day well we clearly know who he's alluding to how many times do you think he really just tried to really sit down and get to trade you know i thought about that because i think 40 tried twice and said well you're on your own i can't help you and i'm not completely throwing tray under the bus i understand but there is a reputation out there well i don't think it's done so one of the buses is to openly talk about what is perceived and what isn't you know i i think that it's it's part of a growth as a fan to to kind of be able to be critical about your favorite players right um you know in that's part of it and there's times where i haven't been and there's times where i've been better about it and i've gotten better about it but the fact of the matter is i'm sure he did early in that first season one of the things i was reading and you have that sound bite and he also said other things but one of the things i saw was that after his first season in Atlanta because he spent two seasons that rich paul called the pelicans and said you need to trade for de jante murray right now he's the guy for you he this is this this is that and that tells me and that is de jante's agent from what i read in that article that tells me that de jante murray wanted out after the first season so i have a feeling that he did that uh a couple of times in that first season to your question robin then was like you know what i'm done but don't forget that trey young sold or signed off on the de jante murray deal in fact he says in his article i don't deal with de jante goes i don't deal with all season moves i'm not a gm i'm a player i play i don't get involved in front office decisions which to me is a shot at trey because trey flew out and met with de jante that all season and they talked about playing together and then trey signed off on it and if you don't realize you can go back and read it it was out there so that to me is another shot at trey and i'm not look he's very veiled with this we're reading into it we're doing what a lot of people hate and i know players hate is that you hear something and you play into it you take it out but how else am i supposed to take it after reading everything hearing everything and seeing how to do that to play understand what they mean i'm sorry you have to get to do that and you're also weighing in the fact that you you pointed out earlier he made other comments throughout the day so whereas you could look at the sound that we just played and it could be like no he's just purely talking about what it's like to be in a team this comment all day huh but you said he's been sent he was saying stuff throughout the whole media availability day yeah he he said multiple things that had direct ties to what happened here and i'm not a detective but i do watch those detective shows you know i've watched the first 48 a few times i know how you put pieces together and that look i'm trying to piece this together because no one talks on this team and it's my biggest frustration with with with the fact that trey talks so little to the open media is i feel like trey could control this narrative and say look here's what happened we didn't do this we didn't do that without without really he never really has any interest in talking very much about anything of substance for the most part he does on his podcast and then he takes shots at media members for for having to look they're having an opinion but the media member he took a shot at which is no longer in the city he was up in new york now works for the athletic and that i have no issues with taking shots of that guy because that guy calls trouble here way too much with with with stirring up stuff uh it's chris kersner oh that's so it was but but but we finally added somebody but the fact of the matter is is that i had no issues with that but but i just want to tell check dude well you could come on any with any outlet spoken print whatever in this market they'd love to have you and we'd love to hear more about what is going on with this team but other than that he don't care about anything local though he's national but then then that leaves us speculating and fillings so you can't have it you wait it was the same you can have your cake and eat it too guess you can if you're a multi-millionaire but whatever dude okay uh so um we got a life of squid coming out what you got uh there was an article came out about ranking NFL logos where who's number one which what and i want to know what y'all's favorite NFL logo is helmet logo next on the morning shift sports video 99 game and the odyssey app it's more than just sports dog this is the morning shift i'm in me too on sports radio 929 the game this hour brought to you by mark spain will say go to mark spain.com via the guaranteed offer your home today and start packing we do have an interview with former gm of the new york Mets and aurels joining us uh on the other side in a little bit and it is Jim DuCette of MLB network radio so he's also an analyst on MLB network so we'll hear from him and you guys will lead into that uh with some brave talk yeah look they won their four straight i know it's exciting for me maybe not trouble needs a little bit more trouble needs six seven straight seven be your number is that your magic number seven to be oh no it when i see it don't be i want i want to see them win a couple of more games if uh when they give up four runs i want to see that explode i don't necessarily want to see it starting pitching or the pitching in general maybe giving up that much that many runs but i want to see that i want to see more of what i saw the other day in game one when they tie the game in the ninth inning then win in the 10th inning we haven't seen a lot of post seventh inning magic out of this team either i want that yeah that's uh you know what i i that sounded bad point whatsoever um i love the conversation you hadn't and tripled up about you know what is your number one need and i hadn't because you got me thinking and our bullpen has been pretty good um you got guys like pierce johnson you'll bummer is here in here but for the most part uh him and bummer is not been bad no he's not but he he'll have well we saw him a lot of times when the game was kind of out of reach maybe is what it was he not high leverage situation right he goes with the game yeah if it's a tight game he seems to pitch okay and if it's a game that's kind of loosey goosey and you know a lot of scorn he kind of plays into it but pierce johnson's been good him and s has been good mentors back mentor look really sharp last night three pitches three outs uh including one really good play by riley right yeah pitches three outs i want that after the out at first because it was hit to ults and he has the cover yeah he looks over at ults and he looks at uh the and he holds his finger up with three he was like three he's like i think three pitches um but yeah i think another high leverage reliever would help this team as well i just think that this is like what you said a lever would closer quality stuff yeah because which means they could be slotted as a setup man now with some team that might sell but we don't know with expanded playoffs it's not as clear anymore as it used to be can i ask you a question i need an answer i need an answer though does a aj mentor has not done well in the closer spot right but doesn't he have closer stuff you could make that argument sure so it's a mentality could be so i guess what i'm saying is i mean cyclized that's pretty difficult to be a closer because if you uh if you crap the bed and blow a save well you might you have to be expected to get out there tomorrow you have to have that yeah memory of a goldfish sort of thing in that 21 uh say uh playoff run it everybody had a set roles like you know you'd have um have one guy come in the sixth and mass it would be like seven and a mentor would kind of be eight and then uh you have um what's our uh our old clothes a wheelsmith coming in the night but see if you had another closer type stuff guy you could kind of flip them right like you could if mentor could come in based on that jobs right i mean but those guys are so particular about their roles and everything else and their routines if you uh have two closers of post-season that could be yeah well i think you would go with one i think you i think you would leave a glacius but you could have another guy in that eight spot the mentor and then other guy could flip flop seven and eight you could have uh dual setup men basically yeah yeah depending on the lineup right lefty lefty lefty stuff pitching's like the last thing i'm worried about on this team it's it's offense it is it is um because offense is what's failed us the last two post-seasons yeah as bad as you know people can talk about the pitching but i mean you couldn't score the last two years on philadelphia's pitching um and you couldn't hit and your pitching wasn't that strider lost two games last post-season he was good in both outings he wasn't that bad he gave up on a two run homer and three run homer the sixth inning yeah and but you're not scoring so that makes that even more egregious seeming that he gave up gave that up but you weren't scoring he did not pitch that badly nope not at all all right dylan it's time for a look back into the mind of squid billing hey he might even talk sports this is the life of squid on the morning shift brought to you by the w sauce and status truck and trailer repair driven by excellence building successful partnerships it's right get over it brob you got to text me so i can bring you a bottle of the bloody mary mix oh absolutely i mean you got to be honest because i'm going to forget it is really good you want to put you want to put a fifth wheel in elkamino hell we'll do that call antony special truck and trailer prayer squared nation you know we got out we got lots of elkaminos in the nation rock we are on the nation all right i i don't know why but the generation i'm in we love uniform talk we love a logo talk we love to criticize and i think it's always been the case though i i don't know if i disagree because i know we you and i were just talking and you had lots of opinions on it which i like because we're clearly just slightly different generations i believe well braves powder blue uniforms back in the day they donated them to us i i wore the powder blues at west georgia because we were the braves back then really donated them to us they also donated us the the uh home whites but our but our head coach at the time uh said well you have to play well to earn them well we never wore the whites so what number were you 23 so whose number did you get i think that was maybe tommy erin the henry erin's uh brother who's a first base coach on the team that's pretty freaking cool yeah did you know i didn't get to keep it no i i want if they still have them wow and i never got my letter either i'm jumping on your setting on my bed no i never got my college letter either i want to do that i want to put it on a sweater i want to do a letter man's sweater like old school great oh you got to wear it when you have your uh your professor you look that'd be yeah that'd be awesome there you go all right west georgia if you're listening and you're a part of west georgia we need to start the movement to get rob tribbles college letter you know if they do they make you uh donate like 75 bucks to get it even though i earned the letter you know can we can we can we can we get send you can we raise 75 dollars in this room for rob if i go fund me so i get my letter we got you rob you know i know a lot of powerful people that west georgia i got you as a distinguished west georgia love myself that is true that is true i got you you better get on that right now i'll make the calls when i taught you that four o'clock you better be like hey i got some information on rob's letter i'll have it for you all right that's outstanding real quick though uh the number one logo for you guys nfl oh uh i well right now like it's just forever it could be forever ooh uh i was gonna say i actually did enjoy uh because i all the patrons and dolphins little everything going so i i did like the patrons old old yeah yeah yeah so from the ladies yes and that's your dad so that's kind of that's really cool i did like that one but then let me think again look rob what what would i use i just go for anything classic even the teams i hate like the cowboys and stealers i still love those old logos i do like the cowboys nostalgia the old romantic nfl and the falcons by the way old logo you need to go back to that you need to go back the most epic uniform the falcons ever had the white pants black jersey red helmet with the gold gold stripe on top and the red and the black and the gold stripe is an homage to georgia tech and and the red of course to georgia that's what that's what's cold blood in that old logo see i like the um the red uh the red jersey like that too the red helmet and the silver bridge i like those two that was 80s yeah without but yeah with that 80s look the the falcon because the stuff they were now is just ridiculous looking to me it looks like arena football i can't stand it why does nike you have to add a stripe on down this down the side of every uniform out there i don't i have no idea no idea i also like the i think i like the i think i like the rams new stuff i like the blue yeah i like the old school the rams all throwbacks are coming with the white and the helmet yes oh man all right when we come back we've got jim du cat joining us and annals and mlb network and mlb network radio we'll find out some more info uh what's going on with your race stay with us here on the morning shift on sports radio night time the game what are the hops let's go today the right way with the morning shift with tiffany mike and bow all right all right on sports radio nutty two nine the game we are back here on the morning shift and going straight to the weighedford.com hotline that is where we find former gm of the new york mattes in ball to more orials and now analysts of mlb network and mlb network radio and serious xm jim du cat joining us this morning how's it going jim hey good morning guys how are you good good good to have you with us yeah appreciate you guys have me on jim i'm going to start right off the bat you know we've seen aa alex and thoughtless here in atlanta seem to have this knack for finding these reclamation projects right i mean josh donelson early chris cell we're not a lopez's um starting careers a starter i mean he even kind of did it with with the outfield where he retold it in 21 how is he so good at at at finding these guys and and and then how are they so good at just knowing what they need to get them back to that form now i i mean you could throw jerry calonick in there right uh reclamation he had a excellent season i can't even believe rosario's back he doesn't hit anywhere else but but with the Braves like come on what what's going on here you know so uh god listen alex alex is one of the best general managers in the game yeah he doesn't get a lot of attention because he's so he's a really humble guy he gives credit to so many other people rather than taking it himself i think he's also one of those guys who realizes if you do well and you're win there's going to be enough credit you know for everybody um and so you know that part of it is good i think it also you know listen organizationly they're set up really well i you know being on the Mets and been in the Mets front offices all those years i mean the Braves it all feels like always have done this i know they went through a little stretch there uh where they weren't but i mean it's like every year they seem to find the right players they thought they really focus on makeup which some lot of teams don't don't play uh put as much attention on makeup matters and you see it with Braves teams almost all the time and and that's what you have to i really appreciate from afar is you know they get talented players but they have the right mix in the clubhouse and and i think all that kind of plays into why the Braves are so consistently good year after year jam along those lines uh what do you think they need to address what position should they address uh for the third deadline yeah you know Tiffany i think with them more than anything it's offense right now field more than more than um more than anything else too i i mean listen i think you know when michael harris comes back i don't know his timetable but that will obviously help a ton you know and hopefully get him back on track but you know i'd like to see Duvall but more into like a you know the fourth outfield role where he can play multiple uh you know positions kind of move around in the outfield give a guy a day off or two match him up against lefties and righties and he's been good don't get me wrong but just giving some more uh some more depth out there would be would be number one i know their bullpen's been uh been really good here lately i think they've given up like two runs over the last two uh two weeks or so so but as we saw in 21 you know they wrote out those four relievers all the way to the world series and i think if they found one more reliever uh you know impactful guy i don't think you got to do much more than i know i know the offense hasn't been perfect but like they're showing signs of of picking it up this month you know especially with riley swinging it well and i hopefully also will get going so i don't know this has a has a vibe guys of 2021 i don't know if you guys feel that way too but it does from afar your answers were were excellent but you don't know what you've done here because opposed to your patting himself on the back he's like was he listening to me no don't ever say those words you just became my favorite guest you're our favorite guest you know what i'm doing once a week we gotta have jim on yeah right all of a sudden i'll be on once a week oh my goodness um well you talked about the deadline and look uh i i enjoy the money ball uh movie it's fun to watch it's entertaining but i don't for the life of me believe that that's the way the trade deadline i don't think Brad Pitt starts having his secretary call can as a guy that's went through that what is that like i mean how early do you start these discussions on players and availability and price and and all of that yeah by the way money ball great movie totally unrealistic i mean the a team you know they had three really good starters and a short stop i think was mvp that year uh and they don't even get mentioned barely mentioned in the movie anyway all right so uh the trade deadline for me is one of those i mean it's it's why you enjoy the job as much because the the adrenaline the you know the you the days go by fast the adrenaline rush is there it's it's a it's a grind don't get me wrong but you know um and more so i think over the last few years a general manager can make a huge impact more of an impact on the team and i think ever just by bringing in guys uh to to that clubhouse and you know this changed a little bit over the last couple years because you can't make any real uh you know the waiver claims that we used to do in august you can't do those any any more uh you can you can pick up guys that have been released but that's generally you know players that have been struggling so the impact is now and it starts i mean it really starts at the beginning of june the phone calls but because of the way the the wild card is structured and the number of teams that were in it uh there hasn't been a lot of separation for post-season you know buyers and sellers until recently so you know i think we've saw a trade last night with the Mets and a relief pitcher you know we saw one last week with starting picture with the brewers getting erin so volley from the rays rays have made two moves and i so it's starting to percolate it's still not going to really get active until after i think the all-star break next tuesday or wednesday yeah i've always been curious for that and yeah you know that's funny that you said that money ball i actually uh was it was on yesterday and i was i was tuning in and i i see tahata and i'm like oh yeah you forget he's on that team and he yeah brad it was like hey timmy throw throw this more and i'm like yeah i'm sure he was talking to muts and um you mentioned uh you mentioned riley's heating up and he is i think he's got like nine home runs and some middle of june jim and you mentioned matt ults and i remember sitting here last year and we were around this time we were talking about the braves and how good they were offensively and i remember saying you go through the lineup and everyone's having a career year seemingly and now it's not that case and other than kelnik and ozuna is this kind of realistically what this offense is more of or are are they just been figured out a little bit on how to pitch this lineup i'm just searching for answers when people ask me jim no no listen it's it's a really good question because you know you go through these ups and downs as a as a hitter in the sport we've seen it a lot and you know i'm accounting as a great example he didn't really take off until he got to Atlanta you know and and so but i i generally you know the guys that they type of track records even if that you know they'll go through they they might go through a a first half that is a struggle but they figure it out eventually you know very really do you see you know really good players have a full season of of a decline like significantly worse than their in their career averages that's why it's like you got to pick almost pick a certain time of the year like you picked with riley i got for me he went back you know and rest in peace mike bromley he went back and worked with mike bromley recently his old hitting coach and i think he got him on track um you know before mike passed away tragically and riley i think you picked that date from there to the end of this season i'm guessing you're not his numbers are going to be very close to what he was last year you know for as good a season as he had you know and so so it's it you know we kind of because of the length of the season it there's a lot of valleys as hitters and really the mental part of the of the game matters you know as much trying to get yourself out of those valleys as quickly as possible and maybe not make it as deep right and so i think that's where we are with riley in particular i'm not so sure you know Olsen's always had a lot of swinging this into the game anyway but i think Olsen's power starting to come too so you know alby's has had a good couple like at least the last week so let's do vol so you know as long as you get three or in ozuna's carry them as you guys know so i think if you have three or four you know carrying them and usually they're different you can kind of get through a season with a guy or two that have uh below average seasons jim great insight we appreciate you joining us and hopefully you got it our new favorite guest jim uh yeah i'll talk to you later well thank you guys that was former jim
