The morning shift, heavy. Why the Kia studio? Oh, Bo, yes, we're talking about, without you here, and especially without Rob here, do you call it diet, morning shift, or morning shift light? I like light. Obviously, I like to go light though, because diet to me means like diet coke. Light means it's a beer. It's more of a beer. But-- So I went with morning shift to light yesterday. I like it better that way. I mean, you do you, Bo. So what happened? What happened? So when-- what happened, Thursday, when we're all off, is it like the morning shift zero? It'll be salmon Greg, so it'll just be salmon Greg, but-- Yeah, no. Yeah, and I just think you just don't have the product. Products not on the shelf. That's all right, though. They're out. It's a restock. Yeah, yeah. It's sold out. That's cool. So Sam, they can come up with their own. They do. Yeah, they just do their-- they just do their weekend show. Exactly. Obviously, Sam's a legend in this city. Sam's a man. And he randomly DMed Sam's favorite. Yeah, he's like a social-- He has my-- he has my cell. And we're-- Sam and I have known each other for years. And he randomly DM's being like Friday. And he's like, you're in Nashville? And I just wrote back. I'm in Mexico. And he goes, oh. This is what I'm talking about. Sam, because I feel like Sam even got my number. But Sam likes to use the DMs, man. He's up to date on all the latest technology. And he wants to flex it. That's fine. I think it's just randomness. I think he's on Twitter. And then he thinks of people. And he's like, I'm just going to message you. Sam's great. He's one of my favorite people in this business that I've ever met. So I can't see enough good things. About him. So you'll hear them Thursday, obviously, on the 4th of July. But yeah, I'm so happy to be back. I got to take my-- To the tan? I actually got a decent tan, even on my stomach, which is hard because a lot of times I just get burnt. Right. And then it's hard to-- then you don't ever tan then. Because the skin just pills. And you're back to the square, you know, the beginning-- Square one? Yeah, I was going to say square eight. Square eight. But look, it was Tex on my golf group. And somebody said something who I expect more out of, for them to comment like that. And I go, I just laid into them. And this was like yesterday afternoon. And they go, oh-- Wait, about tanning? No, it was about a mess. It was a golf thing. And I was like, I think that I said, with all due respect, that's the dumbest thing you've ever said and I expect more out of you. And he's like, someone came back angry from Mexico. And I go, no, I'm in a great mood. And I want to be like, I just haven't gotten to lash out publicly in a while. And I'm ready to do it here. Haven't had a chance to yell at anybody. I haven't had her say their dumb takes. Yeah. You're like this woman I knew that literally came back from the dead, but she was still angry. And I talked to her, was sending her well wishes. And within five minutes into the conversation, she was-- use your choice of words there, talking about somebody. And I was like, whoa, I've got to think of-- I was about to die. I come back a little more chewy, so. I did learn a few things on vacation. OK. All right. Is this live squareds coming out now? I mean, I think it's-- we can do them both here. I won't want to, but I never had any doubt, but I never went around telling people, I'm a Coca-Cola man, because I just didn't think I needed to. Yeah. Because I'm from Atlanta. Yeah. 1 billion percent-- if you're listening downtown, I have-- I will never, ever even hesitate that I'm a Coke man. 1 billion percent because they did not have Coke. They had another product at the resort we were at. Oh, man. You're not even going to name it? Yeah, you can't do that. No, I'm very-- I like to be somewhat smart with that kind of stuff. Unless it was the discount value brand, what's that called? Well, they don't have RC anymore, do they? No, RC-Cola is still a thing. Yeah, I used to-- dude. I know, I'll drink it RC-Cola. Yeah, I don't even know anything about check-cola. My dad grew up-- when I was growing up, my dad worked at when Dixie check-cola. Dude. I know about it just then-- Well. All in there. So-- I've heard of check-cola. No, I'm just saying you don't know nothing about it. Well, you don't know nothing about it. I'm sorry, I'm sorry. Have you heard of it doesn't mean you know about it? I'm sorry, you've got a corner on the check-cola. I've heard of Cardi B, I don't know her lyrics. But they all have their own. Walmart would do Dr. Thunder and Sam's Cola or whatever. And they used to do this thing called-- what was it? Instead of Mountain Dew, it was like Mountain Lightning or something like that? Yeah, Mountain Mist or something like that. It was Mountain Lightning or something like that. Mountain Lightning and Dr. Thunder. My mom came home with that one day. I was like, what is this? Where's the Mountain Dew at? It sounds like something somebody named their fist before a boxing ring. Yeah, I'm not the best. Dr. Dodger is Mountain Lightning, baby. Let me ask you this about your trip before we move on. To me, there are only two types of people that go on vacation in Mexico. You have the lounger by the pool. I'm not moving four hours. I might read a book. And there is the person who is so antsy, they can't sit still. They're going to walk around and they're going to do activities and all the above. Which one are you? Are you a lounger or an antsy? Well, technically, I'm the middle because I sit at the pool the whole time, but I walk to the pool bar back and forth. OK. And we also-- Is that in the middle? I think so. We also found this game that two of my neighbors that we were with, they saw these kids playing in the-- because it was one of those resorts where adults saw it only, but then there was a separate resort that you could still go to. Like, we found the go-karts and everything. And I had to lead until I was viciously attacked from second place. I've heard that story before. And yeah, but we would take the cup and you would have a cup in your hand and the other person would have a cup in your hand. You'd put it like half water and you would throw it. And the other person would try to catch it with their cup. You'd throw it up in the air. And we did that for about two hours in the day. What do you mean you found it? It didn't sound like you found like a-- Yeah, it was a real game. A horrible game. But you had to use the cups that they served drinks in. A little plastic, you know, the little ones. Did you win or no? It was no winner, you were just playing. Just playing a little water. The winner was who got the drunkest. I think it was a team effort you're trying to get on a streak. So you got it? Yeah, got it, I did have you back. Thank you. I'm happy to be back with you guys. The band's back, you got-- well, I guess other than Dylon. But he decided to take an extended leap of absence. But nonetheless, he-- Well, last week we'll take 10 day vacations. Hey, don't use it, you'll lose it. Don't you come out to the youth? That's what the youth do nowadays, so-- OK. The youth do. What? The youth are like, no, the youth. Like if you look at-- Well, I guess it's technically easy. He's a millennial, isn't he? No. He's a kid. He's on the very very end of the year, or whatever. No, I think he's the very end of the year. They're all about using your days. That's what I see when I try to be like you and get a pulse of what the Instagram socials are happening. Like him? And that's what the-- That's what-- He's the Twitter guy. You're definitely the Instagram person. That's what I'm saying. Yeah, I was going to say. That's what the youth do. There's a whole lot of messaging that the youth are putting out. Is that quiet quitting? Is that what I don't like? It's not quiet quitting, but they're just like-- That's what it sounds like. Basically, like anything else, you'll be replaced if you like drop dead tomorrow. Let's fill your spots and use your day. That's the best place if you don't show up to work. Yeah, but it's a prove vacation. He's good. So this hour brought to you by Morgan and Morgan injured, higher Morgan and Morgan America's largest injury law from the Braves, beginning a three-game set against the San Francisco Giants today. They are coming off of taking two out of three against the Pirates over the weekend. But the Sunday's game was the one that they unfortunately drop. Did you have the Roku channel for the brunch game Sunday down in Mexico? Well, that wasn't-- I don't know if you were on your way out by that point or not. Yeah, it was a travel day, and I was following it along with ESPN Gamecast from Margaritaville in the Cancun airport. Yeah, we had to get lunch. They send you a really early home. Like they send you from the resort if you go through Delta, which is the way to travel to a Delta, because they do Delta vacations. But you know, I hear the grounds while at Swellenbach, he's not the guy. They're one in five when he starts. And I'm like, yeah, he's had one bad start, one bad start. And that was against Boston. The others, he had three really good starts, and then two starts that were just so-so. There's no one bad ending in those sorts. There is no run support for this dude whatsoever. Even the games he's won, he's got no run support. So I didn't see that, but you know, look, the Braves, I feel like I've rited the ship in every way, but just the consistent hitting. And that is still an issue. They might be able to get a little bit on track tonight against the guy who's made one start in that Hayden Bird song, and it didn't go overly well. I mean, he went four and two thirds, and his ERA is right around six. So if that tells you anything, wasn't terrible, wasn't great though. And it's a guy that you can get a wind tonight with Lopez on the mound and get a good start to this series, because I don't need you winning 10 in a row, but I need you going two or three, especially with Philly coming to town. That's the point that Grant McCallie was making to me last week. And look, the brutality that was watching the Braves play against the White Sox on the one off game Thursday was unbelievable. So I walked in here Friday, and I looked at Tiff and Robin. I was like, dude, I don't know what Grant's about to save me later, but he better save me from really going into painting mode. And it's-- we keep talking about the records fine. The records fine. The records fine, but this at no point has looked like a team that is pennant-worthy and looks like a team that would make a long run. They just-- they have no hitting with runners in scoring position. They are not doing the things. It's like we can talk about Jared Kellnick and Marswolo Zuna. And that's pretty much it, other than some really, really red-hot bright spots from Austin Riley from time to time. Yeah, it's amazing what Kellnick has done in the lead-off spot. And really, the last month of the season for him has been phenomenal. He has been red-hot, and it's really slapping the face of all the people that wanted to run him out of town and spring training. Obviously, those people are the ones that panic every time. So take that, take them with-- and everything they say with a grain of salt. But the thing for me is, you know what? I was reading the recap that Day-Day sends yesterday, because I wanted to make sure I didn't come in here and try to talk about things you guys have already talked about. And I've heard your comments, Mike, about basically you said just that. And I was like, that's interesting. I don't think that's a bad tape. But what I would tell you is, it's OK that you haven't looked that way yet. Because I don't believe this is the final product. Now, when we get to August, you better start showing signs of a team that can do that. Because to me, that is when it really needs to be shown. It's going to be really important. And that's when you can take off, as long as you're in a spotlight like you are now. When we come back, we're opening up that front page and giving you some NBA news. And the latest on the US men's national team and the fallout from last night's game. Stay with us here in the morning shift on sports radio, now they tonight the game. [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] [MUSIC PLAYING] One, two, three, it's time to take a look at today's top headlines. This is the front page on the morning shift. [MUSIC PLAYING] NBA free agency was underway, began on Sunday. Lots of moves have been made. Lots of news coming out of these Celtics camp. And this one though has to do with their ownership. So the majority owner puts the team up for sale just weeks after the NBA championship. The Boston basketball partners LLC, the ownership group behind the Celtics, has put the team up for sale according to a statement that they posted on X on Monday. The controlling family of the ownership group announced the sale of the majority stake and expects it to be completed later this year or in early 2025. I think the interesting part of this is to keep in mind is they are selling the majority stake. This is not the entire investment group that will be selling. They bought this, I think, for $360 million about 22 years ago. And when you look at the amount of money that is probably Whit Grusbeck, the majority stakeholder that he's able to get for this, it's insane. So you're going to have just his part. Now they are valued somewhere around $5 billion. And when you put all those numbers forward and add in the fact that you just paid everybody on that roster, you start to add the zeros up and Grusbeck's like, I'm getting out here, I'm good. We're about to be doing a lot of money you sell when the stakes are high, so good to go. Yeah, I thought it was very interesting that one of the best NBA reporters that I've had the chance to ever be around was Chris Mannix. And he tweeted right after this news came out that some owners have become very wary of what local TV deals could look like in the years ahead. And regional sport networks are embattled and while the new national deal will be big, future local deals may not. Mark Cuban, I think, has hinted about maybe selling the Mavericks as well. They may see this now, and he mentioned Cuban, as long as Grusbeck in there and said, may see another time while the getting is good. And then another guy came over the top and said, the NBA is moving inevitably towards an NFL model where local telecast, which already it's glued, most of the best games are going to get an even smaller piece of an increasingly divided pie. So that to me sounds like, that's where these owners make a ton of their money, are these regional deals. And with those going away, that makes sense that they might sell high to your point. It's not just about, for the Celtics, about the NBA titles, it's other things as well. - It'll be interesting to me how this all goes because now you have this model right in the NFL where you've kind of okayed investment groups as opposed to one singular owner or majority owner. And I mean, when the numbers get as high as they are, when you're talking about $5 billion, and like I said, this is not the whole team, they're not selling the whole team, it's just his majority stake in this investment group. Well, when you start talking about that, man, you really have to have like a Los Angeles Dodger style of squad behind it, that's going to throw their money forward and be able to do different things. And it really completely changes those ownership models. I mean, there's a lot of kind of, you know, kind of cooks in the kitchen when it comes to that. - Yeah, and it's what happened here in Atlanta Spirit Group where it was a lot of cooks in the kitchen that didn't have, none of them had the entirety or majority of the ownership stake. And therefore, it really exposed the fact that none of them had any real money. But in the reality of the situation is, is you want one guy who has that 51% right? And then the rest of them have big enough pockets where they can all make these moves. - It begs the question to me, when I'm seeing all these numbers pop up for Derek White, Jason Tate, and all the above, when I see all these numbers pop up, it leaves me asking the question, who is signing off on these contracts? You know what I mean? Like if you don't have a singular majority investment kind of owner, you know what I mean? It's not like, okay, hey, we're going to pay Dak Prescott, Jerry Jones has to okay that, right? Jerry Jones, like who is it that's signing off? I'm going, hey, let's pay Jason Tate, I'm $320 million. - Well, I think all of the guys that grow spec having majority stake at the end of the day. - Right. - So it's just that you have a bunch of other guys who make up the what, the other 49%. - Yeah, yeah. - Well, Jason Tate, him and the Celtics agreed on a five-year, $314 million extension. And then Mike already mentioned that the Derek White deals with him and the Celtics agreed to a four-year, $125.9 million contract extension, so they are paying a lot of people. - A lot of money for a lot of different pieces, but I guess when you have players that are that good, I guess you want to sell a good product? I mean, if that's the thing, if they're asking with groups back, if they're saying, hey, look man, do you mind if we pay these people? He's going, dude, we got a, we have a championship, not even championship caliber, a proven champion, commodity here, if you want to step into these ranks and pay a few billion dollars to step right to the, you know, the forefront of the NBA and get those things done. - Yeah, make it run again. One more run for the title, right? You just paid Jalen Brown last year. Now, Tate, I'm in a wide, if I'm paid, you're going to make at least one or two more runs before whatever happens with this team, however long you can keep them together. - I'd be curious to get a report too from like a front office or Forbes or something like that, how much an actual NBA championship is worth financially? You know what I mean? When you look at the windfall of knowledge, just gear, but you know, putting butts in the seats for the next season and the amount of sellouts, I'd love to know how much that is worth for a franchise and whether or not, you know, it's kind of worth making those moves to go all in like you do financially and not worry about the luxury tax and everything else. And then on the flip side, how much you're able to pull away from that. - The Splash Brothers are no more because Clay Thompson is reportedly headed to Dallas for a three year, $50 million contract so he'll join forces with Luca and with Kyrie and maybe it will get them over the hump next year. But again, like I know we talked about it in the break, but they had their issues with defense late and a lot of people were pointing fingers at Luca and it's conditioning, but now you've brought in a guy that doesn't play defense late. - Everything I know. - Anymore. - You know, but it can still shoot. So even though people want to harp on that, there's a lot of that, what, Claywood, Ofer. - Yeah. - And there's all that stuff that's out there, but. - Well, there's two, there's two truths to this. This is a guy that, you know, it's gonna give you 20 to 30 minutes and, you know, shoot 40% from three for his career, but he's just, you know, it's somewhere in that range, but he's gonna give you what, 10 to 20 points a game. And averaging, I think last year on 17 points a game like 29, 30 minutes, reality of the situation is he's also a guy that was benched in late in games because of what, not playing very good defense. - But the Warriors did put out a statement and I'm not gonna read all of it, but they said they can't overstate Clay Thompson's incredible and legendary contributions with the Warriors during his 13 years with the team. This did not end well according to a lot of reports and it seemed like there were a lot of, I don't, I hate to use the term like hurt feelings or anything like that, but that's kind of what it seemed to be, you already knew he wasn't gonna go back to this team. They weren't gonna be able to come to, you know, reach it, reach an agreement on terms, but the writing was basically on the wall and I don't think he liked the way he had been treated down the stretch and there was some unfollowing on social media that was reported. - Yeah, as it's, as it goes, it's common. - It's ridiculous. - You know, it just, it stinks that you had this great career there. The Splash Brothers duo was, I mean, that was, that was ever, it was huge, right? You were paying big, big money to go see them if they were in your city. And so it's sad to have it. And if it truly did end according to all the reports on such bad terms. - And I think injuries led to an earlier exit than he, then both sides would have liked. And in the day, there's gonna be one man left standing on that team and it'll be Steph Curry 'cause they'll, they'll, when they need to cut with Draymond, they will. And it's not Steph can play as long as he wants to there. Look, the reality is it sucks that, that, but Clay Thompson, while he handled it in front of the media as well as he could have, you know, he looked like I'm not the player I used to be at sucks. I, I gotta deal with it and not, I don't want to. But look, I don't blame going safe with the doing it. And I heard a lot of Hawks fans come here. Why didn't we go get Clay? Because we've got him on the roster already. He's bulky. We've already got a guy that can come off the bench. Not gonna give you great defense and score 17 points. What's the game in 30 minutes? - It's a good point. - This is such a, but to me this entire thing, such an NBA story, like this doesn't, like you, you would never think this way in the NFL like having this bad breakup. It's such an intimate locker room when you have 12, 14 guys in the NBA locker room. And when you put together a dynasty in the longevity that you see from a lot of these players in the NBA, specifically when they've won world championships, such an NBA thing. This is not like, you don't, I don't feel like there's as much feelings hurt. NFL, Major League Baseball, some of the other sports, but that intimate locker room setting makes things a little more difficult for Clay. - We're gonna talk about the United States men's soccer team. We'll save that for later on in the show because there's a lot of fallout from their loss last night in the Copa America. But we will highlight 16 year old Quincy Wilson right now. He's become the youngest male track Olympian. So he has turned heads at the Olympic trials in Eugene, Oregon, and he'll have the opportunity to do so in Paris. So it's just incredible. The ages of some of these athletes that we've seen come out. You have Lolo Jones on the opposite ends of the spectrum. Four years old, like only woman or only female track athlete to be able to do that at her age, which is crazy. And then, actually not crazy. 'Cause 40 is not old. Let's just go ahead and put that back out there. - Yeah. - And then you have-- - You go into the Olympics. - And then you have a 16 year old who's now gonna be going to Paris and representing this country. So that's pretty cool for you. - Yeah, it's pretty cool. He did not make it in on the 400 team, but they call and kind of make him part of that relay. - Yeah. - And it was funny, I would have been so mad but evidently his coach called him and said, "Hey man, bad news. I'm just kidding. We're going to Paris." I was like, "Dude, my coach calls me and says that. I'm punching him dead in the face and I'm finding a different coach before the next Olympics." No thanks. - Such a cool story. - Don't be making that up. - He said he was a static when he got the call. So kudos to him. No matter how can their Hawks improve their roster from here? We've got a lot to talk about and we'll hit a TV's timeout. Stay with us here on The Morning Shift on Sports Radio 9-8-9, the game. (upbeat music) - I was just going to say who this was and I was going to ask slash take a guess. And I haven't heard this in probably since middle school. - He follows me on Twitter. Gavin or else. - Does he fall like 80, bajillion thousand other people? - No, he falls. - Dang. - There's a couple celebrities that do that. - And they may just take a victory lap for two seconds without you being like, it's not that cool. He falls everybody, just hammered this man. - Sorry, I did come in with people. - Oh, that's cool, that's cool, that's cool. - Ashley follows three people. - People's album, sorry. - He follows me, Gwen Stefani, and-- - Do you know him? Did you meet him? - Oh, we're pals. - He has D.A. (laughing) - I will say this. - He follows like three million people. - That's what you're gonna say. I was like, hey, no, thank you. - Shane, what's up? - You didn't even give me a chance. - I got excited when there's a certain celebrity. I won't call his name out. That follows me. And I was like, oh, this is so cool. But I looked and I was like, ah, dang, he falls. - Yeah, so is it. - Cough's Tay Diggs. - Oh, so is it. (laughing) - I don't know if he's told that. - Speaking of this song though, last week, but we did songs that we were talking about, our first vehicles we ever owned. And Rob, we had a number of collars talking about the first vehicles I ever owned. I did Tiff's songs that she was probably listening to when she turned 16, singing out loud in the car. It was a great list, had DMX on there, a couple of other things. Today's top five Tuesday would be the same thing. - You're missing some pop music. That's all I'm-- - I'm going in on Bose. I'm going in on Bose. It's only a year earlier, but we'll do 1999. We'll do songs that Vogue was probably singing in his car. - A lot earlier. (laughing) - I gotta go, remember what songs the new 1999 were popular. - Wait, oh yeah, it's a lot earlier. Oh yeah, happy belated birthday. - Wow, thank you. You guys didn't, I got nothing from you guys on my birthday. I mean, Day Day sent me something, but you guys, nothing. - Well, we didn't get invited on your Cancun trip, either, so. - Well, because we all can't. Well, I feel the same way about one person who decided to make an announcement when I was gone. - Yeah. - What'd I do? - Well, I mean, am I in the carry-on to Paris? I saw that come down. - Wait, what? You were here, oh wait, you weren't here. - Well, I was here behind the scenes, but not the public stuff when it went in. I think it was, is it in the scene? - I'm seeing it there, yeah. - Yeah, and I was like, huh. I was like, well, you know, I wonder if I'm getting a plus one. - You put a post out, she was like, I'd like to thank Mike and Bo for all of this. - Did she for elevating her to the status of being on Ellipica. All I know is, all I know is before you started working with me every day, you were not doing the Olympics. And now, you're doing the Olympics. So, that's all I know. - So, I mean, look. - I'm proud of you though. Congratulations, I think I know the public can congratulate you. - Oh, okay, cool, thank you. And congratulations on your birthday. (laughing) - Congratulations on not dying. - Not dying. - So, it's 40-41 now. - That's right, you're, and you'll be 40 pretty quickly and join me in the club. - Yeah, but you know what I did yesterday? - Rance Prince, you know. - Oh, is that, does that change the birthday? - It's most, you know, so, yeah. - She goes straight from about the turn 40. You know what I did yesterday though, Rance Prince. - This is where I want to be. - This is where I want to be. - Thanks for doing good. - This is where I want to be suburban 41 year old, like, I cut the grass in nine to five degree heat. That's right, and that happened. - You know what else happened? The Hawks took the number one overall traffic while you were away. - That's right. - In Zachary Riesche. Then we had free agency happen. Actually, they made a trade during the draft, and then we have free agency happen, and then Johnson Murray, while you were gone, is now gone, he's with the Pelicans now, so the Hawks making some moves. So now we have the big question of, 'cause you can still make a deal with somebody. I don't know who's out there, but what's next for this team to try to improve their roster? - Well, that's a really good question that's, I'm gonna go ahead and be straight up, and it's rare that I'll ever admit that I don't have the answers to the test, but I don't have the answer to this test. - Nobody does. - But what I'll tell you. - It's fine, nobody does. - But at someone's, I was on Twitter yesterday, I was a normal, and I was catching him, 'cause I did not spend a lot of time on Twitter when I was away. And, well, - Yeah, I saw your John Forrester tweet, and I was like, "Put the phone down, Bo." - Well, that one's personal, 'cause John Forrester's, you know, somebody that me and my dad, both were able to pull four and watch when I was a kid. But, somebody said, "Is this gonna be another all season "where we take a guy and send him packing?" And then say, "Look, it's addition by subtraction." And, it would be easy to say that if we had, did we not get ricochet? But, they do need to figure out that what they're gonna do with the other guard spot, I mean, what is the plan? And, I know Steve Coonin went on with Duke's and Bell on Friday and said, "Hey, you know, we're gonna be in the news a lot lately. "I hope so, and I hope it's big moves." But, the NBA, you see these guys, you know, Paul George moving to Philadelphia doesn't, I don't get all upset, I mean, no, with all due respect to Paul George, he's had a phenomenal NBA career, but what team is he went to and said, "All right, pencil 'em in for the finals, "'cause I've yet to see him make one." - Right, yep. - Guys, I think it's time to stage an intervention, and it might be for someone here. - Uh-oh. - It could be for someone in your life. - Uh-oh. - Let's hit a TV's time out. - Now let's show 'em. - Now, let's take a look at what's going on in Tiffany's World. The same front with TV's timeout on the morning shift. - Brought to you by maximumcashhomebuyers.com. Fair cash offers for as is homes. Don't waste your time with repair. Call 678-902-2000. - We all have one of these people in our lives, and they significantly impact our lives probably in the worst way possible. I want you to take a listen to just a portion of this clip. - Can't continue to regular way. That's what I'm saying, I don't have a air drive. Just, okay, hold on, I can't do FaceTime, but we could do Google Meats, or we could hop on a Zoom. We, I'm saying the meeting counts. - That is Ms. E.J. Speaks from her Instagram account. She's a great follow if you don't follow her. And it was a point of view. You're the only Android user in the group. Now, I did ask Day Day, a huge favorite. - Somebody's kidding. - Getting that sound on me rather quickly, but then I realized Day Day is an Android user. - I was gonna say, how did you send that sound to Day Day? That's the question. How was that sound sent to my friend back there? That is a listen. - And I saw this last night, I fell out. My brother, who apparently still listens to, because I made a bad joke yesterday. He texted me the middle finger emoji. He has an Android. He's still the only one in our family. - Come on, man. - Dude, I get so torn on this entire topic, the Android against, because I feel like it's, and I think, maybe it's in Europe or something, they've ruled against Apple being able to make the messages green and things like that. I can't remember. There's somewhere in the world. Yeah. I'm talking about the Android message that's gonna go green. They've kind of like ruled against that. That's silly. - They need to be shamed. - But it's like... - I agree. - But what if they weren't shamed? What if they just all came through blue? And what are they? You know what I mean? - But we need to know why we can't, as Ms. E.J. speaks, but we didn't know why we can't FaceTime you. We need to know why we have to... - But we should be able to FaceTime Day Day whenever I want to. - But you're not, no. Hold on. You're never gonna be that way. Look, I don't want everything to be the same. And I do believe in freedom of choice between a droid and an iPhone. However, just don't be friends with me. - Freedom of choice between a droid. - Because one of my good friends who was on vacation with us, we have to use WhatsApp app on vacation because while there is 12 people in this vacation and 11 of them, we can im message back and forth. But there is one person, AB, that we can't. And we have to use WhatsApp, 'cause his messages don't come through the same. - You realize how hypocritical you just sounded. You don't want, I don't want everything to be the same, but you should own a freaking iPhone. - If everybody should own a freaking iPhone. - I don't want everything to be the same. - But you should own an iPhone. - Because it's a contrarian thought now. - Let's just take this. - This is so good. - But you know how frustrating it is to have to use WhatsApp for one person. I don't have AirDrop, just, okay, hold on, I can't do FaceTime, but we could do Google Meats or we could hop on his own. We, I'm saying the meeting can be done. I just, I don't have FaceTime. And y'all need to be all right with that. Not because they've been trying to act like, "Oh, EJ got an Android." Like, I'm just at the bottom and I'm just so low. Ain't nothing low about me, but like my metabolism sometimes, and... (laughing) - I mean, look, it does make the question like, what's, what, what... I just have to, Danny, can you talk about this for a second? What's the, what made the decision for you to get an Android? Like, what was the thing you were like? - I mean, I've always had an Android, so... - What's keeping you from leaving? - So, I do a lot of, as you guys know, I do a lot of video work with high school sports. - It's the camera. - And so, it's the cameras. The cameras have always been better on the Android. Now, I will admit, I've seen some of these newer iPhones within, I guess, the last couple of models that they've come out with that have some pretty good cameras, but the cameras on the Android have always been, that's always really been my main reason. - You got three cameras, look at all these cameras. - Yeah, four of you got the front one. - Oh, yeah. But here's the thing, I have to download an app just for you, just so we can internationally message each other. Like, that is... (laughing) - Ridiculous. - You know, the other thing, and maybe it's changed a little bit now, but there was a time when Apple users were running around, like, crackheads when they left their chargers somewhere. Android people, we never had to worry about that 'cause no one ever wanted our chargers. - Yeah, exactly, nobody would know so much. - Well, they're the same chargers, everything. - I should tell you something. - They're the same chargers, the USB-C or whatever. - Yeah, now everything's kinda same. - Now everything's gotta be the USB-C, so. - Look, I'm just saying, like my brother ruins a family chat. - My cousins, you know how many brothers and sisters my father has, and just think about the multiple children that they had, it's a large group text, and it comes in green bubble. - Well, I know you hate that. - Because we have a certain cousin, not gonna say her name, but a certain cousin refuses, refuses to change. - Oh man, I'm good. - Daddy, keep holding up. - Just don't be close with your cousins. - We all need everybody with the same kind of phone. - This is up to Apple to fix this. - Again, no, that was EJ Speaks on Instagram. She's a great follow-in hilarious. So she inspires that TV's timeout. Hopefully it will inspire all of you out there, Android users, to maybe make, I don't know, significant life change. So, when we come back, when we come back, let's talk to our resident offensive lineman here and find out what it takes to have a breakout season. Mike's a former all-American, former Atlanta Falcon. Did you have something you had to share with the class? - I just, yesterday, it was squint wasn't here yesterday, you remember when you dropped it at seven o'clock on the die. - I did, I know I had to stop myself. (laughing) - You're like, hit it on the head. And I was like, man, I like to hear his usher. That's all I can hear. - And I was like, man, I can't believe this. - Speaking of singing in your car when you're, you know, early 2000s, like that was the one in 10. - That, and then I watched an interesting, I didn't get to play at all, but remember I said I liked a certain song by Cisco, and then you guys judge me. - True. - You know, it was in my younger years, I probably had no business singing that song, but the instrumental's behind it. There was a really good story that, no, there was like an orchestra on stuff, guys. - Yeah. - I was ahead of my time. - It doesn't change the fact that you're not playing, you're not playing in the orchestra by any Cisco, you're singing this song. - I'm just saying, there's a great appreciation for the music. - Yeah, the artists, the artists of this. - The artists of this. - The artists of this. - The artists of this. (laughing) - I think that went into that. (laughing) - I think it was a violin. (laughing) - You clicked it and you're quick. (laughing) - Yeah, how did you have that song up the place? - I thought it was like, bam. - I love it. - Hips, hips, hips. - I think this was one of the options for the 2000s, actually, I didn't go, this was an honorable mention. - Isn't there? - It was an honorable mention. - What about like, all for one, was that, that was too difficult? - Wasn't it? - Are they early, or 90s? Is that 90s? - That was 90s. - That was like, that had to been like mid to late 90s. - You're right. - I was thinking early. - I was thinking the church choir with Jamie, from off from one. - You did? - Yeah. - Wait, which version of all for one? Do you want me to buy a blues to men, or like, didn't like, Sting and Brian Adams do one? - No, no, no, no, I'm talking about the group. - Yeah, she saw a song. - Oh, oh. - Yeah, a group. - I'll tell you about the song. - I'll just say this much. - But you're talking about the group. - I'm talking about the group, yeah. - I was making both lists. What he was saying in the car was 16 this morning, and I was literally laughing, laughing out to myself, going this. - Both probably had, I feel like you were-- - Elbow out the window, you know? - I feel like he was in some sort of crossroads. Like, part of you, I think, wanted to maybe be grunge, like, emo kind of thing, but not fully emo, but just more in the grunge side. And then you also had your countryside, you know? - Yeah, what did he say? - No, full-ass countryside musically. I mean, just a small one. - It's old school, mainly. I mean, 'cause I consider like groups like Blackberry Smoke and Whiskey Myers more of-- - Southern Rock. - Southern Rock. - Southern Rock. Now I do like some Zack Bryan and stuff. Oh, which, by the way, after seeing the "Hock To a Girl" on stage with Zack Bryan and Nashville. - I saw that. - Zack Bryan, I'm just going to tell you now. Like, I think it's at Saturday show. The nation needs to be up there day-to-day. I need to go sing a song with Zack Bryan down. - Wait, who was there and say it with him? - That "Hock To a Girl". - "Hock To a Girl". - Do you know what the "Hock To a Girl" is? - Have I been under a rock? - Oh, man, they even branding God as a bitch with "Hock To a Girl". - And she is so-- - Let me go pull this up. - Yeah, anyways. - Yeah. - Wait, I guess I have a show to do. Okay, I'll hook it up later. Put my phone down. All right, Matthew Bergeron. Actually, we got to talk to him last year at training camp guard for the Atlanta Falcons. Really, I shouldn't say kid, but really nice young adult who-- - Young man. - Right? - Yeah, young man. - I love it. It sounded like he's from South Louisiana, had a little bit of that occasion, 'cause he got that French Canadian accent. Yeah, it's crazy. - He's so like, I can't. Anyway, so we were looking at basically NFL All Breakout Team, and this is the offensive side of the ball. So this is from NFL.com. - Bucky Brooks, I think, was the author. - Bucky Brooks, yes. And he's on this list. - Yeah. The number of people to jump off, and of course, we'll kind of break through it, but obviously Bergeron's the one that Falcons fans are gonna focus on, and I think it's logical to say that Bergeron has a kind of a breakout year. I think that's just the logical next step when you have a guy that started all 17 games as a rookie. - Yeah, yeah, but I agree, but Mike, unless, do you believe in pro football focus? 'Cause I don't. I don't necessarily read what they say and say that they know what the blocking assignments are. Even the schemes. So unless I'm a guy and I, and they even had Chris Lynchman as the highest rated guard, which I think he's a top 10 player guard was, I don't know if he's top three. - Right, and I had the conversation a lot last year. - Yeah, what I would ask you is, how is the average fan gonna watch games other than saying, I don't see Bergeron being exposed on replays from missing blocks, pointed out by the play ball play guys, how are you going to know? How are we gonna sit here and know? - Yeah, I don't think this is something where I can sit here and quantify it to a fan that's watching it on a Sunday of like, "Hey, this is what you need to look for "if you're gonna look for Bergeron." I will tell you what I think leads to a breakout star or breakout candidate. I think it's comfortability when you're a rookie. I mean, I cannot say this enough, how impressive he was last year. Your head is absolutely spinning. Not only is he making the transition in the NFL, but he's moving from left tackle to guard, right? And he's doing all of this at a very, very high level. Now, was he an all pro last year? No, there were times when, you know, he looked a little bit at spots and swim moves would get him and he buries head a little bit. But comfortability is what leads to that. And I think that when I look at this list and I look at the fact that they've changed off into coordinators, I think you could always look at that and wonder if there's gonna be some fallback. But I think the fact that Zach Robinson runs a wide zone style of offense leads to a level of comfortability with him. - I'm glad you mentioned Zach Robinson and that offense, 'cause here's a little bit of what Bucky Brooks had to say about Matthew Bergeron and why he's on this list. He said the athletic interior blocker is poised to shine in a revamped offense under new coordinators, Zach Robinson, that makes the most of his talents as a people mover at the point of attack. So Bergeron's movement skills should lead to more space for, this should be music to your ears, for running back Bijon Robinson on runs while providing sufficient protection for Kirk Cousins to attack from the pocket. And then it goes on to say as Robinson builds a game plan that enables the Falcons to showcase their skill players on the perimeter, the football world would come to better appreciate the work Bergeron does between the tackles in 2024. - And I do think, yeah, yeah, that sounded really legendary. No, I do think that, and look, I'll go out and say, I think Bergeron is better suited for what he will be asked to do this year than possibly Chris Lindstrom is. Chris Lindstrom fit like a puzzle piece into what Arthur Smith needed at Right Guard. I mean, it was the most beautiful marriage you can think of. He was the, he was the Right Guard version of Jason Kelsey in a lot of ways, where he was an absolute spider monkey that was gonna climb the next level. After a rough first couple of weeks, I really thought that he settled back in in his past protection, kind of getting a jump on guys, not allowing them to bull rush 'cause he gets up and in their chest really, really early. You know, it kind of jumpsets him. Bergeron is a bigger body. I mean, I don't remember what he weighed the calm miner coming in the last year was North to 320, I wanna say. He's a big, big dude compared to Chris Lindstrom. I think when you look at Zach Robinson's offense and you kind of start to look at the, they are both wide zone style of offenses, but what Zach Robinson asked is a lot different than what Arthur Smith was asking. You are going to see every now and then, which we saw very rarely last year as asking these guards to pull, kick out blocks, maybe some a gap powers. There is also a lot of what you would call a duo run play, which means that there are straight double teams up front and the run back's just going downhill and he's picking a gap. It's not even a zone, it's just like, hey, if there's a guy in the gap in between us, we're both going to double team him and try to push him all the way into the linebackers lap. Duo is a staple of what they were trying to do in LA last year. You did not see a gap run plays from the Atlanta Falcons last year. You didn't. Now, sometimes they would end up in the a gap due to cut back lanes and a running back, kind of pushing the envelope, cutting back, cutting back, finding the a gap, but very, very rarely in this offense. And this is why you had your legendary John who Smith speed sweep on the two yard line very, very rarely in this offense last year that you see guys being moved north and south. And so when I look at Bergeron in the bigger body, which I'm going to go out on a limb and say he probably weighs at least 30 pounds more than Chris Lindstrom right now after seeing them in person, I think he fits very, very well. I think he fits very, very well into what Zach Robinson is going to try to do up front with this group. - So we're going to talk about Bergeron. I can't help but bring up Jake. And I think that Jake has been a guy that for as much, you know, look, he's had his moments where he's not played well at times during seasons. And I don't think he had a particularly good season a couple of years ago, but how does it change his game? A, knowing who the guy who's he's supposed to play next to and start with this year, because he has not really had a consistent guy next to him in quite a few years. - It's been a while. - And B, if Bergeron takes that next step, how much better is Jake do to that? Because I think we forget to wait to many times how Garden Tackle are connected. - Oh, so it's massive. - Yeah. - What's funny is, and you and I saw Jake a couple of Mondays ago and I walk up to him and I go, "Dude, I don't know how you're doing it." I mean, it seems like it's been three decades since I suited up. And he looked dead in the face, didn't he? And he said, "I feel good." I was like, "Good for you, dude." He said he feels really, really good at this point. And he's moving well. But I think more so than Bergeron lined up next to Jake and I go back to Zach Robinson and everything they were able to do offensively. Very rarely did you see the offensive tackles in LA absolutely left to be exposed on important downs. And I think that's a huge thing to take into effect. You saw chip blocks. You saw a lot of screens running back screens, speed screens, things of that nature. And when you had that implemented, which the Falcons had but weren't very efficient with last year, when you see things like that, it makes Jake Matthews feel more at home. Hey, I don't have to block, you know, Julius Peppers, for lack of a better name right now, on third down. I just don't, right? I'm gonna be able to have a Puke Nakua, Charlie Warner, you know, you know, style of body chip on the way out and not leave me exposed all the time. And then you had play action on the top of that, which Matthew Stafford was very good out of year ago. So it's very intriguing. - You know who else is on this list that might affect the Falcons this season? And it's a quarterback from the NFC South. And yeah, Bucky Brooks has Bryce Young on this list of younger guys that to possibly break out this year. And he said in disappointing rookie season, spurred a mass exodus from Young's bandwagon, all the change that they had. That's what he's talking about in Carolina. And he said, but I believe last year's number one overall pick can bounce back under new head coach Dave Kanales. And he cited Kanales's experience with Baker Mayfield down in Tampa. I know that Baker Mayfield sung his praises when I had their game, just about the connection that they had down there and being able to kind of put Baker's career kind of back together. - Yeah, I'm kind of curious to see if he has a Trevor Lawrence type season two as in, I'm not saying that Frank Wright was Urban Meyer, but that offense was a mess. It was a debacle. Bryce Young was set up to fell last year to me from the get go. So I wonder if he can kind of get it together and start to slowly put his career back together, kind of like Trevor Lawrence did after that rookie year debacle with Urban Meyer. - When we come back, let's stick with the NFL. We are going in the huddle. It doesn't matter what happened last year, which coach had that to say. Was it a playoff team? Perhaps we'll discuss next on the other side, on the morning shift on Sports Radio 99, the game. (upbeat music) - We are going in the huddle, but before we completely get there, let's go back to this list that we were talking about, buckybrookesfornfl.com, put out an NFL all breakout team on offense, and we're talking about Bryce Young. And so he does have him as quarterback on this list. And again, he said a disappointing rookie season spurred by a mass exodus from Young's bandwagon, again, citing all the changes in turnover in Carolina. But he said, I believe last year's number one overall pick can bounce back under Newhead coach Dave Canales, and the quarterback guru, who just helped Baker Mayfield. - I mean, I hope he does. I was a huge, obviously, huge fan of Bryce Young when he was in college and watching him. And I immediately, when, you know, the marriage to him and Frank Reich, watching that kind of unfold and be a part of, oh, you know, this guy's dealt with these. Watching what Frank Reich did with Matt Ryan and Indianapolis, I was like, dude, he fed this guy to the wolves, and Matt Ryan didn't stand a chance. And for that reason, leading in the last year, I'm looking at kind of the marriage with him and Bryce Young, and I'm going, this ain't gonna be good. And obviously, you get a peek at them, week one last year, and it was very clear what the game plan was in Bryce Young's ear was don't go lose the game. There was, it was unbelievable how many throws throughout the second half of week one last year, watching that person where Bryce Young's like, "Well, it's not there, I'm just gonna air mail it out of bounds." And I can't tell you how deflating that can be for a young quarterback. And I'm not saying that's a bad, you don't wanna force it. But if you're just telling the guy, "Hey, if it's not there, throw it out of bounds," then we're really not letting the guy play. And that's not what Bryce Young was good at. I am very, very curious to see what Dave Canales can do with him, and kind of unleashing the gunslinger mentality that led to Bryce Young's Heisman Trophy at a certain point in college. So I don't know what the end goal is over there in Carolina, but I think it's gonna be a fun marriage. Look, he's not the only one on this list either. I'm looking at Peter Skoronski. Peter Skoronski, the first round pick at guard, the top 10 pick at guard, up in Nashville last year. Love the marriage with him in Vrable, but you're gonna get Brian Callahan. And along with that, you get Bill Callahan, the legendary father of his, that will be as part of that building as well, and that will coach off into the line. So there's a number of players really up and down this list that I think you can be excited about if they're on your team. And for that reason, obviously I'll have my eyes on Bergeron and Hope and he succeeds in Zach Robinson's offense. - Yeah, and the whole Bryce, one quick note on the Bryce, I think Frank Wright is gonna get most of the blame, 'cause then today you're only gonna remember Frank Wright was the coach. But let's not forget the debacle of the ownership group that they is up there right now with, what's our blood, Tepper, up there, and how he had spies on the coaching staff. And remember he made Frank Wright give up play calling at one point, and then Wright takes it back. I mean, it was just, it's just some mess up there. Hopefully Dave Canalis is part of his agreement to coach that team for Bryce Young's sake. - Yeah, it was, hey. - Keep your hand out the cookie jar. - You run the ownership thing, and you get us a new stadium, I'll run the football part, all right? Stay out of it, because, you know, by me, for as a Falcon fan, I don't really care either way. But as a-- - Let it dig, David Tepper. - But as a guy that liked Bryce Young in college and I heard a lot of good things about him, for his sake, that would be nice. - Well, I just pulled back up my notes from our conversation with Baker when I had the Panthers Bucks last season. And Baker said this about Dave Canalis. He said he's given me the freedom. Trusting our guys to be able to handle that as well. So I think that's a huge word there, basically handed the keys to the card. I know Baker obviously had more experience than Bryce did at the NFL level coming into this, but still he had built that trust with Canalis fairly quickly. And so the word freedom is huge, especially when we're talking about a quarterback. - Yeah, and it's exactly what I'm kind of alluding to. You go and give him a less than still a wide receiver card and basically say, if it's not there, we're gonna throw it away. And it's like, what did you think it was gonna look like last year, would that be in the message throughout the first 15 weeks of the season? - Let's go in the huddle. - It's time to huddle up. - Bring it in cold, bring it in cold. - The latest NFL news, rumors, reports, and happening. - With "In the Huddle" brought to you by the Good Feet Store premium art supports, learn more at goodfeet.com on the morning shift. - Well, the Houston Texans, yeah, they surprised a lot of people last year. They had what the NFL offensive rookie of the year in, or not Bryce Young. Wow, CJ Stroud, who I got to see at a game last year during this season. And Coach D'Amico Ryan's basically was saying it doesn't matter what happened last year. And if you remember, 'cause everyone likes to talk about it, 'cause it surprised so many people, they did make it into the playoffs. And, but he doesn't care about that, right? It's all about going forward now, but that certainly is something that they can build off of. But again, it doesn't matter. - I think all three of us sitting around this table can understand the fact that this is a what have you done for me lately, Leake, is it not? I mean, this is one of those things where D'Amico better understand that it's all about what you know. Ask guys like Doug Peterson, ask guys like Nick Siriani who was the bell of the ball middle of the season last year. And at the end of the year, you wonder if he was getting fired. And I'm talking about half a season, that thing flipped on its head. So I think D'Amico Ryan understands that. He's the consummate professional. Everybody in the world, it seems like, is rooting for him. And so I think it's nice that he understands that. - Yeah, he did talk with NFL networks, Rhett Lewis at the Senior Bowl Hall of Fame ceremony. That happened over the weekend. And so he said the most exciting thing, what I love about the NFL is it doesn't matter what happened last year. And he said, you got to hit that reset button. You start back from ground zero. And I love that. Going back to our day one fundamentals installs and seeing guys truly grow and seeing how far we can get, you know, in this game, so. - Yeah, and it is hard to have stay hungry. And it's not just about, well, you know, people can say, well, you've won a playoff game. - And I'm sorry, especially when you get it in the first year. - Yeah. And people say, well, you've won a playoff game. So how are you not hungry? But it's more about continuing to elevate your game. You know, he was so good last year. And now he's got a veteran receiver too, who, let's be fair, doesn't want the ball, but demands the ball. And when he doesn't get it, he lets you know in the middle of games. And I'm not saying that Stefan Diggs isn't a team player, but I'm saying is he's got a reputation. Did it Minnesota? He did it in Buffalo. Now that said, it might even make things easier to a certain extent for CJ Stroud. If Stefan Diggs is getting attention from defenders, and he's able to, you know, basically open things up for other guys, like, you know, Niko and stuff. So that's the hard part for me, is the staying hungry on a personal level to continue to do all the things you did in year one, and elevate that in year two. - And sorry, one quick thing. Just in getting to be around them at practice and having Coach Ryan's come up to us and talk to us while practice is going on, you don't get that experience too much when you're going around doing games every weekend where the coach is just like, whatever I wanna talk to you about your family life and all this kind of stuff. But it is kind of different down there. There's a real emphasis on family. Maybe this is the right spot for Stefan Diggs. We'll see if he can thrive. - Right, right coach for sure. - Yeah. The NFL's top 10 offenses in 2024, 49ers, Chiefs headline this prediction here on NFL.com. So you want me to read the rest of the list? It has the 49ers at one, tied for a second, the Ravens, the Dolphins at four, the Cowboys, five, the Lions, six, the Bills, seven, the Eagles, eight, the Rams, nine, the Saints and 10, the Cleveland Rams. - Yeah, nine and 10? - What did I miss? - Well, nine and 10? - I'm fine with 10. - Well, I'm not, no, I'm not. I'm not. - I'm fine with 10. - You know why I'm not, first off, I'm not fine with 10, because did they have a top 10 offense when Deshawn Watson went down? Because I don't necessarily think they did. - They finished the year on a strong note for a team that was using a four string quarter. Yes, that's what I would say. - I agree, but Deshawn Watson in particular has shown me nothing. - That's fair. - Nothing, since he's came back. Now, nine, I mean, what the hell is that? - And what world of the Saints at nine right now as far as looking towards them? - Did Shawn Payton and Drew Brees come back? - Yeah, what are we talking about? - Is this rookie or second year Alvin Kamara? No, I don't know what that is. Most everybody else, I really don't have a problem with the Ravens. Nope, no problem. The Cowboys are at four. I hope CD Lam shows up for training camp. - By the way, this is Genaro Felicis' list that he accumulated on NFL.com. - Man, I got questions for him. - And he put together, see if questions for him. - Well, did he throw a couple of teams on the wall and they just stuck and they didn't just slide down it? 'Cause that's like-- - So your questions are-- - Nine and 10. - Nine and 10. - Yeah. - I'm good with 10. Nine to me is just like, that's completely random for the Saints to be there at nine. - I'm not necessarily gonna say I totally agree with that. Just from the standpoint of you had Joe Flacco come in last year, and now you're inserting a ton. I mean, yes, Shawn Watson has had experience with some of the guys on that roster before, but you're now inserting a totally different quarterback in from Flacco. - And you had a top three defense in the league that helped elevate that offense. And we have seen defenses elevate offenses before. - So interesting. Well, you guys can send your request, or you can tweet at him, Bo. You can angry tweet if you feel inclined. - No, I'm not angry. I mean, I'm not angry. I just got a lot to say. - You just got a lot to say. Okay. - In a short week to do it. - When we come back, we will get to that US men's national team game last night. It was not pretty. And we've also got a miked up. - It's top five Tuesday, and I'm just telling y'all. Bo's top five songs. He was singing in his car when he turned 16 in honor of his birthday last week. And I gotta tell you, I was laughing out loud, putting this list together this morning. We'll hit that on the other side. It's going on on top five Tuesday on miked up. It's the morning shift on sports radio, '92 on the game. (upbeat music) - When was this day day? Why can't I, when was this song? When did it come out? - Ooh, I got double checked the year, but it wasn't as big. - Yeah, this is probably 2002 or three. Petey Pablo? - Yeah. - Yeah. - So I mean, you could've-- - This has gotta be that timeframe. - That was probably still, after I got my license done. I'm just thinking about what could've been on that list that yeah. - I got my license in '03. Maybe I'll do my own list next. - Forget about Drake. - What are you bumping to? - Forget about Drake was 2000. - Yeah, it was on the list last week. It was an honorable mention. - That was definitely a song of me and this, we had a finished goalkeeper and soccer. We had roll up to this song at practice. - Oh, before we get to miked up, USA soccer, the United States Men's National team is now eliminated from Copa America after a one to nothing defeat at the hands of, don't you guys come, this is how they say it, Uruguay, so. - That's not what you said a minute ago. - Yeah. - Uruguay, Uruguay. What did I say before? - I gotta get this down before the Olympics. - You just Uruguay. - That was how they say it, Uruguay. - Did I not say it, what did I say? Uruguay, no, it's Uruguay. - A minute ago you said it's Uruguay and I was like, no, that's gonna be tough. - Well, you wanna say Uruguay, but that's not what you're supposed to say. - It's gonna be tough. - And I sound a real country and I'm dealing. - Yeah, so yeah, I remember that when you're making fun of me in Paul and County. - You know what? - 'Cause you tripped me up. Looking at you made me want to go into a country I'm sort of dialect. Just your presence. - Look, I know that you're gonna, you might cringe when I say this, but I'm not sure how much longer the US men's soccer team can continue down the path with the leadership in place. That's talking about per halter, the coach. - Yeah, it's every main sports website that you can find this morning. And I'm talking about the athletic, ESPN, CBS sports, whatever you want to call it, every single one, the headline read it's time for the United States men national team to move on from Greg Berhalter. And it is, this is as ugly as it gets when you look at the opportunity they had in front of them hosting a tournament where they were favored and what should have been a shoe in group to make it to the quarterfinals at least. And yet you, there was so many missteps and everything that happened for the last couple of matches for them that I don't know how you kind of stick with that man. - Yeah, and I think there's a lot, there's talent and there's talent that's young talent and to not sustain energy. - You almost told this is the most talented roster in men national team history. That's what I told you. - Well, it probably is. - I mean, maybe not all is lost for this team, right? I mean, you said the talent's there, it just hasn't really panned out. Day to day, are you good for me? - Well, if it hasn't panned out, you look towards, when you have talented rosters and they underachieve, the first question always goes towards leadership. And Burr halter's been there five or six years now and nothing has been accomplished essentially. - And looks like we're ready for that sound now. So let's listen to Burr halter. Whether or not is the team doomed? - In my opinion, it's not something you say, okay, this program's doomed. It's not the case at all. It was a poor performance. We didn't get the results that we expected and we need to get better. - Let me ask you all this too. Anybody that was watching really closely last night was kind of all over the socials. You needed the result, pantom all against Bolivia to stay a lot tighter than it ended up being, right? Did you guys see the video right before your guys scores on the set piece where Burr halter's looking out and he's saying it's one to one. Basically the game has been tied to other game that we're paying attention to, has been tied. In that moment, you guys tell me, do you want to know anything about the other game that's going on because I do not? I personally am like, dude, let's control, I don't want to know anything about what's going on between Panama and Bolivia at this point. Let me worry about Uruguay right here in front of me and see if we can beat this team first. - I think to me, you have to know the makeup of the entirety and the most important players on your roster when you do something like that. Because I'm different, I want to know. So it affects, I like having that feeling that my back is against the wall kind of thing. I don't know why it's always been something I feel like I've done better at. But you have to be very careful when you do those things and you have to know the makeup of the team. I'm not sure if that is something that he did there or if that's just who he is. So it's hard for me to answer that. But this team clearly didn't respond. So maybe that wasn't-- - If the game is over, okay, maybe tell me the result. But in the middle of the game, who cares? Who cares what the current score is in the 60th minute or whatever it is? You know what I mean? That's been where I was thinking about it. - That maybe pushes urgency. But if you don't have urgency in that game already, knowing what you had to do coming in there and essentially get a win to move, then there's a lot more issues with this team than just per halter. - Yeah. All right, well, speaking of having issues, let's go ahead and hit this mic tough. They've been home for three days, played here over the weekend after coming home from that crazy double header slash one off in Chicago where they were obviously exhausted. So yeah, they get the three series this week past weekend and now you get three starting tonight. Does this seem a little surreal for you guys. Renato Lopez going out against Hayden Birdsong and you see Renato Lopez's six and two with a 1.70 ERA. Does that not feel like a massive underachievement to say he's only six and two? It just seems like you look at Chris Sale who's ten and three, he's got ten wins. But with an ERA a whole point higher than what Renato Lopez is doing. He's been having a really good season. Back to what we were at, the questions we were asking about Renato Lopez four months ago, it seems like we're a lifetime ago because of what he's done in the first half. Well, I can't remember how vocal I was with the Renato Lopez. This is going to be a starter when they signed him, but I never really took it seriously. And I don't remember if I said it. Just stretch him out. Like, yeah. I was like, yeah, yeah. Let's see that for spring training. That is right. I remember that story. He said his wife now. Yeah. Well, I think what I think what I was in my head was is, yeah, you stretch him out. And then when we get through spring training, it'll be Bryce Elder or AJ Spence Shauver. Spence Shauver, that will be your first starter going into the season. And Renato will be your long relief guy until he's not. And here he is. I think a lot of credit goes to Bryan Stenker and Alex. And Thopolis, the fact that Renato Lopez is six and two with a 1.70 ERA. And when I say a lot of credit, yeah. They deserve a lot of credit because they have went with a six-band rotation for so much of the year. He's hardly pitched at all on a short, you know, regular rest, I will call it. You know, the four days rest going in every fifth day. Chris Sell. Same thing. Last one, Chris Sell went in that day, that game, that makeup game against the White Sox. And he pitched what seven innings and gave up like a run or two. Yeah. You still lose the, yeah, keep up a run, right? It was one, one, nothing. You don't give up one, I believe. He lost that game. And that's why that's happened. It's a testament too to the Spencer Schwellenbox of the world and AJ Spence Shauver. So they've been able to go those games, Bryce Elder at times. It's one of those deals where if they can continue to do it though, and then maybe Addie and Anderson around the trade deadline back from his rehab or at another starter as well, you'll have Lopez fresh for the playoffs. You'll have a Chris Sell relatively fresh, I should say. And you know what? To your point, the one guy who needs the most at a boy or pat on the back or whatever you want to give him is max free is because he was told by all the Braves, for all of Braves country, including the GM and manager that it's Striders staff as the ace and you're the other really, really, really, really good guy. And all he's done since then is step up and be the ace. Do you think that Max Farid is the most important pitcher and I'll ask you this question about the offense a minute ago. Do you think Max Farid is the most important pitcher for the second half of the season? The easy answer is yes, because he's the ace, but the real answer is no. So who is it, Chris Sell? Because he is the guy that you're going to depend on down the stretch to be the number two. So like when you go in the, when you, if and when you go into the playoffs, you want to have free to sell. And those are, those are your two guys that you're like, hey, we need Lopez to give us five innings of two to three earned, but we need sell and Max to be the guys that are like closing the door on folks, start games. Well, as someone who said that, because we actually had this conversation, I guess maybe last Friday, Tiff, or even in the yesterday is like, you can say whatever you want to about Charlie Morton. Charlie Morton is doing what Charlie Morton needs to do as a four slash five starter. Right. I mean, Charlie Morton, if he's going to go out there and give you six innings for earned with the offense that you're supposed to have, that's all you should have been asking of Charlie Morton from McGitko. The guys 40 plus years old, he might be on his last season as a baseball player. Go ahead and say the words. Go ahead and say the words. What do you want me to say? You know the words I hate to hear, but that was what he is. He's an innings hitter. Thank you, Tiffany. Oh, I don't believe it. I'm just, I'm just saying. I know. I know you knew the words. I want to clarify that for you. The magical words. But I think, I think saying the words innings eater to a guy like Charlie Morton is not a knock. Like maybe I'd feel different as he was some young up and coming, you know, player that was trying to catch on and get a big contract and all the, you don't want to be labeled that. But Charlie Morton at his age and where he's at in his career and kind of a Johnny come lately as far as on the back end and into his thirties before he came, a really successful starter in Major Leagues, I think he's fine with it. Well, that's the reason you get to go to a six man rotation and extend some of these guys. Look, the reality of the situation is in the four, the four and five spot in the rotation, which you want them to do is not taxed a crap, almost cuss because I've had been on the air and so long, out of the bullpen, you want to tax, you don't want to tax the bullpen, but while you allow the team to be, to win the game and allow the offense to do it, that's what frustrates me about guys that want to jump on swelling block and data and use numbers. So he's one in five in his starts. That's what the team is in his starts this season. Yeah, but how many of those, how much of that one in five is on the fact that the offense has done nothing. People off that game and it was his second, no, it was the game of Baltimore. So it was his third start, he gave up one run, a one earned run, I think in that start, maybe two or whatever. That was the one where, you know, also go like, so the offense has let him down. They let him down Sunday to me. Right. Well, and that's the thing too. When you look at Schwellenbach starts, and I do want to get y'all's answer on who is the most important offensive player, but when you look at Schwellenbach starts, it's always like one inning where he blows up and gives up a couple of home runs and then to our point and we talk to John's multibots a couple weeks ago, he just locks back in and it's like nothing even ever happened and he zones back in and throws some of the pitches. I do find it funny too, Bo, and I don't know if you and I have had a chance to talk about his comments, but you and I talked about the O2 pitches, the two strike pitches, getting out of things, going to throw it over the plate. And after a few starts, he comes and he's like, you know, I just have to have to learn to get out of these situations when I've got to go down in the count to maybe let him make contact and do different things. It's fun to see him kind of grow in that role. And it's kind of what a lot of times the guys will say, I got to develop an out pitch. He's got it developed. He's got to know when to use it and where to locate it. Where to locate it. Where to locate it. No. And back to the conversation about most important people as far as the second half goes, I think it would be easy to say Marcelo Zuna, Marcelo is the most important player of the second half. What about? I don't think that's fair. Right. Well, it's a great point. That's a great point. You're getting Michael Harris back, right? And if you're going to ask, if you're going to continue to ask Jared Kellnick to hit at the top of the order in man center field and something he was not, I didn't think he'd be asked to do in a million years coming into the season, Michael Harris is your bulk club center fielder and your MVP guy was hitting in the lead off spot. I think maybe he is. And I think that's a good point to if the Jared Kellnick, if he continues to do the same thing he does is a massively important part of the second half is emotional players. He is having that pressure put on him is been so good for him and it's been in a way where it's like, Hey, the team is not on your back. That's not what we are here. That's not what you are here. But it's time for you to have your moment. And I think that little bit of that, that whatever juice he's getting from being in a lead off spot and the center fielder has been good for him. Now here's what I'm going to tell you. I don't know when Michael Harris is coming back because he's not even running yet. It's great. He's hitting and throwing. I know that matters, what matters for him and his injury is running. When Michael Harris does come back, he does not need to be in lead off and I love Michael Harris, but Michael Harris is a better player when he's not going to pressure it. Now, the thing is is leave counting there. And now what it does is it opens it up for you to do other things with Michael Harris and that maybe in a role where he might be better suited. I wouldn't have a problem putting him back in that eight or nine spot because I think, you know, if Michael's comfortable there, he gets all now. Kellniks producing runs. I will say that Austin Riley, who has been pretty hot in the month of June, could be that guy. It also could still be Matt Olson could be the, but, but I was gonna go Austin Riley myself. I too. I'm leaning towards because he was so unproductive for the first two and a half months. And I'd say, well, I'd say, yeah, it was a long time. And then he put a number on it was lit it up, came to life. I think it might be Austin Riley is pretty good. Yeah, I agree with you. I think Austin Riley is the guy got to have him. This hour brought to you by Mark Spain real estate, go to mark Spain dot com for guaranteed offering your home today and start packing. We have a life of squid. Yeah, I'm going to give a short recap on the vacay, which could be long. You never know. So yesterday was a pretty big day for a few schools in college athletics. We'll tell you why next on the morning shift on sports radio 929 the game and the Odyssey app. [MUSIC] [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] It's time for a look back into the mind of squid billing. Hey, you might even talk sports. This is the life of squid on the morning shift. Brought to you by the W sauce and status truck and trailer repair driven by excellence building successful partnerships. [MUSIC] That's right day, day, day, we are back. Well, W sauce. >> That is what, yeah, yeah, they're going. >> No, we were, we were vibing over here while you were, you were doing the Zeno, you're heading your phone, but that's right. >> This is why I was so disappointed in you earlier, you know what I mean? >> I mean, he's lame, but not in the way that, you know. >> Yeah, all right, you know what? Anyways, thanks for your friends, Debbie Soske, www.soske.com to find their brand new hot sauce and the Bloody Mary Mix Key West Side. And my friends at Status Truck and Trailer Repair, call the boy Anthony. Big truck, small truck, medium sized truck, Mike, box truck. So my truck, Status is the official truck and trailer repair of squid. >> Do they do fifth wheel hitches? That's what I need to get hooked up. I'm ready, I'm ready to start pulling around the fifth wheel RV at some point. So I need a fifth wheel hitch, that's what I need to get done. >> You want to, you want a fifth wheel? >> Yeah, we're not gonna do it for you. >> We're not gonna get a travel trailer, which is gonna be a fifth wheel. >> They can do it for you, we'll call him, he'll hook you up. >> All right. >> I mean, even if you're in the mafia, he's an ace. >> What kind of discount is coordination yet? >> We'll talk about it offline, but we'll take care of you. >> All right. Absolutely. Well, I know you guys missed me. Clearly- >> We debated this yesterday. We debated whether or not we did it. >> Clearly it just wasn't the same without me. I understand that, I get it. >> Definitely was not the same. >> I get it, but we're back from the Riviera Maya. We had, what, two life and a half. The other side of Cancun. >> It's Cancun. >> No, it's not Cancun, it's Riviera Maya. >> Okay. >> It's like an hour from Cancun. Tell him day day, you can get on the air, you can correct the little- >> Yeah, we've been here before, it's actually on the other side. My wife had to correct me. >> Yeah, we went to this place called Barcello. >> Okay. >> Huge. We were the only adult only side. And they had go carts and one of the family ones, and we went over there. And there's three of us decided to do it. And I'm in first place. I have passed two other, two cars that started in front of me. And I get firmly out in first place. And my buddy is behind me. And I am using the racing line. Because it's a road course, you know? And so I'm trying to use what would be the racing line on the road course. Well, this fool is just trying to basically nose dive me every time. He's diving. >> That's what you're doing, go carts. >> Every time. But I keep hanging on to first place, even after wrecking. I'm physically driving a go cart. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> And. >> Unlike your simulations. >> So finally, he wrecks me bad enough that I get stuck in the tires. And the guy has to come over and unhinge me. >> So you got wrecked. >> Yeah. And the audacity of the guy running the go carts goes, I'm going to pull ahead and black. This is going to be your first black flag. And I want to tell you something. >> I'm not shocked by that. >> I almost came unbuckled. >> Yeah. >> I was wrecked. My black flag almost came unbuckled, and I started to scream at this dude. And I realized that, well, for one, there is a language barrier. And when my southern accent gets going in English, saying words probably shouldn't even be saying anyways, he's not going to know what's happening. >> And he's looking at me like I am. >> It is. Yes. Volume and anger. >> This is a family side. >> International. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I was wrecked a guy driving this kid. >> So you were keeping pace, and that guy was like, hey, man, Rubben's racing, and knocked you out of the way. >> No. No. >> I would think of all people, you respect that. >> I was keeping pace. Let's just put it this way. This has been like the equivalent of one of the guys we raced with just going in the turn and next thing you know, hitting the wall and bouncing back because he's going so fast. >> Yeah. >> The old diamond pattern. >> Yeah. That's exactly what it was. So that was fun, but I came back weighing a pound less at an all-inclusive than I did when I went. >> So say you look skinny. >> That's because I didn't eat for 28 hours. >> 28 hours. >> Because the last three days I had some been stomach related where stuff wasn't. >> You drink the water? >> No. I mean, not out of the fountain. I'll drink it out of the bottles. >> Oh, man. You drink the water down there. >> Is you? >> Yeah. How do you brush your teeth? Did you? >> I brush my teeth with it. But they have resorts. They have drinkable water. >> I don't know, man. >> I'm looking at that. I don't know about the roof here or my office. >> So I don't want to call up Montezuma's revenge or whatever, but -- >> Wouldn't you be in the hospital with that? Isn't that very serious? >> I mean, I'm going to tell you something. >> Right. >> I can't remember. >> I woke up Sunday morning as we were about to leave and in a two and a half hour span, I visited the bathroom six times. >> Yeah. >> Bubble guts. Okay. So that's unfortunate. We appreciate you sharing that with all over the office. >> I was going to say, I just looked over to Zee if maybe he did look thinner, like you were just down because you have been his hype man today, I wish he appreciates. I did notice that he is, today, wearing the ever underutilized combination of blue on blue, which is just, you know, talk about it. Blue on blue is an aggressive color combo when you go shirt to pants. Blue on blue is -- like you're really putting yourself out there. >> Brings out your eyes, though. >> You know your eyes are kind of not -- I guess they're like hazel. >> Blue on the eyes. >> I'm just typing you up today. So I'm just going to keep pouring it off. >> You know, the funny thing about my eyes is they are actually blue, but they do change colors a little bit. They will be a little greenish depending on the light in the room and what I'm wearing. But I also -- >> You did this. I just -- I don't know why you're laughing. You did this. >> I also found out that I did not know my loyalty. I knew that I was loyal to Coke. I knew I was a Coca-Cola guy. I did not know the extent of my loyalty to not having Coke available for a week with my Jack Daniels. >> Yeah. No, I do. There is no bigger Coca-Cola fan than me. I'm just like -- >> I'm going to put it this way. >> I don't drink soda. I don't drink soda. >> Tiffany, I'm going to tell you one thing. There's a reason why they've always called it a Jack and Coke and not a Jack in anything else. >> Right. Yeah. >> Because it goes way, way better with Coke than it is. Anything else? >> You didn't get a -- you didn't go rum down there, Cuba Libre or anything like that. You didn't go down that road since you were south of the border, didn't try to mix it up. >> No. No. I tried a few of the drinks at like Toronto Vacation and this weren't hitting right last week from me. >> I think they were heavy pours or were they being light because it was all inclusive? >> Oh, no. They were not heavy pours. In fact, we finally got a bartender in the main bar that we would go to every night that we turned him into a heavy pours. Because we were heavy tippers. >> There's enough zeros. Yeah, exactly. >> And I'm going to tell you something. This guy was so good at it by the middle of the week. I would walk to the bar and he would be like, "He would give me that smile." And next thing I know, he would just bring the drink. The drink that he thinks that I want, which is the fine, it was a drink I was drinking every night. He'd just bring it to me and it would taste like, you know, I made it. And I was like, "You're going to continue to get taken care of." And he took care of me. Yeah, I think his name was Romeo, he was my dude. But anyways, great trip, I'm glad to be back. I really, you know, had a lot of fun. It was great. We were able to celebrate me on my birthday, which is always fun. We poured another one out to me. But, hey, I'll tell you something, they had a Japanese steakhouse there. That dude was like, he should have been working on bought your restaurants in the states. He was unbelievable. I guarantee he prints money down. He was unbelievable. But I got one more thing to hit for. Yes, dude. How did you go to, you went to the river and I had to go to a Benny Hana? I know. That's what we got. I was like, "What?" Well, they had four restaurants, so that was the only thing I didn't enjoy, is you had to physically go in person and book your dinner reservations, which doesn't work for me. Because I like to figure out that day what I want to eat. And most of the time, you'd go somewhere, but yeah, we had a group of 12, dude. They're like, "Yeah, we got four at 6 p.m. with a French restaurant." I'm like, "I don't want to damn French." Does this look like I got to eat a lot of French to you? I mean, yeah. Eat baguettes. I'll go get a foie gras or whatever, but I don't want to be eating that. I want mistake. I did. I won't say this. They had the buffet and they would cook to order those stan ribeyes. I probably had like eight to nine steaks in the first four days. Might have been warm. That's what was wrong with you, bro. Yeah. That's what was wrong with you. Yeah, that's what was wrong with you. Hey, this looks so concerned. No, seriously. Too much for that, mate. You got to be careful with the beef. Yeah, and you got to be careful with that gout flaring back up, too. I didn't get the gout. I don't get the gout. The gout showed up in my torso. Wait, you're gout. I do not have gout. He says I have gout. I got a case of turf toe. Anyways, but I'm glad to be back real real quick. Shout out KSU, my alma mater. They officially became a member of conference USA yesterday. Wait, did you graduate from KSU? Oh, you did. Okay. It just took a while. I was I wasn't sure. I thought maybe you told us that you never end up. I thought one time he told us, but I thought one time he told it when he called it his alma mater. I was like, okay, we're going to have to go to break. That was so disrespectful. Didn't mean it took me a while. I'm a pride. I'm sorry. Did you graduate from Alabama? I did. It took me a while, but it did. Yeah, it took me a while, but I did. So congratulations, my alma mater, KSU. Congratulations to you. Congratulations to KSU. Happy birthday. All of it. Good to have you back. We're going to find out what's coming up on this day. Cal, stay with us here on the morning shift on sports radio night tonight at the game. [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] I listened to a couple of those songs on there. Yeah, but no. Never like that. My stuff was I loved back then. I lent Biscuit. It was big. The rap songs back then were good. You know, I don't like they had lyrics and you know, "Little Wayne was hopping." Juvenile, all that DMX was big in 1999 for me. Well, yeah, DMX was on the list last week for TIFF. I will say that I have no problem with you to defend yourself. My issue comes with Tiffany. Tiffany is too bold. So I can't. Right now, Tiffany is too bold right now as Dylan usually is to Tiffany. The ultimate hype man. I'm not hyping him up. I'm all for the truth. That's all I want. No, TIFF don't let him be like that. That's all. That's all. That's all for the truth. That's all for the truth. I'm just for the truth. I'm just saying. I'm just saying. I'm just saying. There's an inaccuracy. An inaccuracy, inaccuracy, inaccuracy. Do my words get tongue tied? Maybe? Is it inaccuracy? I correct it. My words got tongue tied. I call it out. Just say it. Listen, I wear the lameness on my sleeve. I'm not cool. Never have been. Never been that guy. Let's go to the lines. And because Mo's been out for a while, we're going to go Squid Billion. All right. We did hear from Interabsence. Good morning. Morning, everybody. Morning and happy birthday. Elder Squid. Thank you, sir. Mike, it was a terrible list first time. Second, I do have to kind of give myself a wake up call because I apologize. Elder Squid, but I am an Android user. It is purely economic though. It is just because it's cheaper. That is the only reason. I would rather have an iPhone. But there was a point when I did have an iPhone a number of years ago, but also for economic reasons did not have an unlimited data plan. And I messaged choose through your data like in a week. So I actually turned it off and still gave green bubbles even when I had an iPhone. So I'm probably the worst of the worst when it comes to the phone usage. But love the show, you guys. Appreciate you. Appreciate you calling yourself out. I want to hear that is back. Hold on a second. You guys are throwing these people under the bus. I'm just saying, look, don't conform. If you have an iPhone. I know. If it is for those reasons, I have no issue with it. But the people in my life that I have to deal with with the green bubbles, they are not doing it for economical issues. They are doing it honestly. At a spike. They're not doing it. No, my cousin is doing it. Hold on a second. Two of my cousins are doing it out of spike. I'm positive. They need a good camera. There's a lot of reasons. Day-Date is over here. The personal thing with my buddy Avi, he only does it now because he is like, I'm going to be the last hold out. He'll tell all these reasons, but it's all BS. It is just to be that guy. My mom converted a few years back. She was hurting my brother with only two droids and she converted and then she realized the air in her ways before and she was very happy to convert and she found that the iPhone was very user-friendly. I don't disagree and that's the reason I have an iPhone. I just look, man, do you, both where he's like, I had to use an app for an international trip messaging. Like, okay. No, but when someone hands me their phone, can you take a picture of his name? I'm like, sure. I'm like, wait, what is that? What is that? What did I have done that? Can you explain to me what button actually does it? And honestly, if I handed somebody an iPhone, no, I feel like they'd probably say the same thing. No, there's no buttons on iPhone. They know. Like, you don't know. Like, I don't know. They know. A lot of questions. That's the line. Let's go to John and LaGrange. Good morning, John. Hey, good morning, guys. What's up, John? Uh, real quick. My wake-up call is for the Atlanta Hawks, Steve Kerner, and the bunch. Uh, you got to have three. Well, there's Luca, there's Kyrie, and there's Clay. There's your big three to go along with Gafford, Washington, and all the other guys. Right. Atlanta is not done anything. They've crapped the bed, and you got Trey. That's my wake-up call, and then, and, uh, there's a reason why I swear that like I'm an all-star. You can figure it out. Hey, just catching strays over here. You know? How about this one? Yeah. You're going to go here. How about this one? Uh, Trey, Jaylen, and Reza Shay. There's your big three. How about that? You feel good about that? Oh, well. You're too early to tell. I mean, uh, uh, you know, Reza Shay was, it was... I was just kidding. Don't. Only drafted... You can tweet at him. Six days ago. I will tell you that that looks like the plan. I mean, you drafted... As we sit right now, that's exactly what the hope is. Look, he was drafted higher than either one of the other two of the big three, so I would think you would expect him to be that. Um, I know different draft classes and all, and all that, but yeah, I think that's the plan. Um, that's absolutely the plan. The plan is, this is Trey's team. Look, I did listen to state yesterday when I was driving to pick up sprinkles from, uh, her extended stay with my parents and I thought it's taking some good points, like, hey, this is, this is Trey and Quinn's team now, Quinn Snyder and Trey's team. So, yo, show us that you can lead two other guys and you be the primary guy in a big three. And that's absolutely what that's just built to be. But there's just, there's just no way that this is the roster leading into season. Yeah, we didn't, we said that last year and they traded John Collins and got nothing. When you saw what Jalen Johnson became, he's the most untouchable player on this roster. So when you see what he became, I think it's fair to say that that ended up working out for the, for the, in a positive, it, it, no, well, it was last year at the four spot, it was. Jalen. Yeah. Well, yeah, but what, we say this edition by subtraction thing, um, Jalen had a good year last year, but what was different about last year other than you had Jalen Johnson instead of John Collins. What was it? That was it. That's okay. Say it was a success. Nothing about last year's. I don't think it was success. I think at the four, it was addition by subtraction. Had you won more games, you could say that tray misses what five, six weeks and maybe you may be finished the same. How many did Jalen this by the way, ding? What was the team's record and where, where was the team headed when Trey, what before trick? I heard it's good as Trey was playing. Where was the team at the time when Trey got hurt though? I don't know. I don't know the time. I thought the timeline. I thought I thought he had already came back, but that's the, that's the why so many people are frustrated with the way this is all went down and I get it. They had the right to be chief. You're on the line. Let's go. What is happening, chief? Finally, he has came back and then we've got the skilled to pay the bills. Got more spots within that car. Finally has returned to the morning show. Welcome back, chief. Thank you, sir. Good day. Good to be back. Hey, I had your back the whole week. Is that all? This call is just like a welcome back and let the man speak. This is his moment to talk. There you go. But I got to wake up call for all three of you guys this morning because I got to be on team day. I have an Android. There it is. You guys. It's cool. It's a great billy like this. I'm trying. I got your back, chief. You know, you know, how expensive these phones are. Really, this phone, it wasn't cheap. You know, so in front of all the iPhone users and AT&T users with iPhone, you got to have a lot of problems sometime. For the other time, I turn around the phones are not on, so I don't see the big deal. That's a good point. Well, first off, I am pro choice of smartphone. I have said that. That's what the nation platform we run on. Absolutely not what you said. How I said that. I said that earlier. Did I not? They're saying that the nation is not really your friend, only your friend. As a billionaire, I have had no issues with my iPhone or my AT&T. And you sound like a politician. You're backtracking and trying to smooth it over. But that's smooth. Anything. That is one of your favorite people. Quid billions, one of your favorite people. Cheese, one of your favorite people. Yeah. And all of them have androids. And I'm just telling them do what you do. Actually, the body I've called out is one of my favorite people too. Look, I'm just saying and it's a it's a great argument. I'm just saying, the people I know that have droids are refusing to change over out of sheer spite. There's just no way. No. My cousin has proclaimed this. We basically have all female cousins to my side of the family. And one of the guys, one of what, three boys out of this giant family, he has proclaimed he will never change because we want him to. And you know what? It's trash. Trash move. Anyway, he walks in with his fake droid, looking watch, whatever that is, not even an Apple watch. He doesn't on purpose, despite our Apple family. Wow. Wow. It's fake droid. Look, can you hear that? Kurt? I don't even know what it is. They droid. Look and watch. I'm going to garment or something. But basically, look, you want to talk braids when we come back. Let's let's do just that. They've got a matchup that starts with the Giants tonight. This hour brought to you by Mark Spain Real Estate, go to MarkSpain.com via the guaranteed offer in your home today and start packing braids on the way on the other side of the morning shift on Sports Radio 99 the game. [MUSIC] [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] [BLANK_AUDIO] Brave's getting set for a three game set against San Francisco Giants. It starts tonight at 7.20, so they've been home for what, what was the home stand, about 10? They've been home for three days, they played here over the weekend after coming home from that crazy double header slash one off in Chicago where they were obviously exhausted. So yeah, they get the three series this week, past weekend and now you get three. We're in tonight. >> This seems a little surreal for you guys. Renato Lopez going out against Hayden Birdsong and you see Renato Lopez's 6-2 with a 1.70 ERA. Does that not feel like a massive underachievement to say he's only 6-2? It just seems like you look at Chris Sale who's 10 and 3, he's got 10 wins. But with an ERA a whole point higher than what Renato Lopez is doing and- >> He's been having a really good season. >> Just crazy to think back what we were at. The questions we were asking about Renato Lopez four months ago, it seems like we're a lifetime ago because of what he's done in the first half. >> Well, I can't remember how vocal I was with the Renato Lopez is gonna be a starter when they signed him, but I never really took it seriously. And I don't remember if I said it- >> Just stretch him out, like, yeah, yeah. >> Let's see that for spring training. >> He's right there. Remember that story, he said his wife now. >> Yeah, well, I think what I think what I was in my head was is yeah, you stretch him out and then when we get through spring training. It'll be Bryce Elder or AJ Spinschauver. Spinschauver, that will be your first starter going into the season. And Renato will be your long relief guy until he's not. And here he is. I think a lot of credit goes to Brian Stenker and Alex. And Thopolis, the fact that Renato Lopez is 6 and 2 with a 1.70 ERA. And when I say a lot of credit, yeah, they deserve a lot of credit because they have went with a six-band rotation for so much of the year. He's hardly pitched at all on a short, you know, regular rest, I would call it. You know, the four days rest going in every fifth day. Chris Sell, same thing. That's why Chris Sell went in that game, that makeup game against the White Sox and he pitched what? Seven innings and gave up like a run or two. >> Yeah. >> And you still lose the, you keep up a run, right? It was one- >> You have a one, I believe. >> Yeah. >> He lost that game and that's why that's happened. It's a testament too to the Spencer Schwellenbox of the world and AJ Spinschauber. So they've been able to go those games, Bryce Elder at times. It's one of those deals where if they can continue to do it though and then maybe Addie and Anderson around the trade deadline back from his rehab or add another starter as well, you'll have Lopez fresh for the playoffs. >> Do you think that Max Free is the most important pitcher and I'll ask you this question about the offense a minute ago. Do you think Max Free is the most important pitcher for the second half of the season? >> The easy answer is yes because he's the ace but the real answer is no. >> So who is it, Chris Sell? Because he is the guy that you're gonna depend on down the stretch to be the number two. So like when you go in the, when you, if and when you go into the playoffs, you want to have free to sell and those are, those are your two guys that you're like, hey, we need Lopez to give us five innings of two to three earned, but we need sell and Max to be the guys that are like closing the door on folks to start games. >> So with someone who said that because we actually had this conversation, I guess maybe last Friday tip or even in the yesterday is that you can say whatever you want to about Charlie Morton. Charlie Morton is doing what Charlie Morton needs to do as a four/five starter, right? I mean, Charlie Morton, if he's gonna go out there and give you six innings for earned with the offense that you're supposed to have, that's all you should have been asking of Charlie Morton from the get go. The guy's 40 plus years old, he might be on his last season as a baseball player. >> Go ahead and say the words. >> Go ahead and say the words. >> What do you want me to say? >> I know the words I hate to hear, but that was what he- >> He's an inning, Peter. >> Thank you, Tiffany. >> I don't believe it, I'm just- >> I know, I know, you knew the words. >> I just want to clarify that for me. >> You knew the magical words. >> But I think saying the words innings eater to a guy like Charlie Morton is not a knock. Like maybe I'd feel different as he was some young up and coming, you know, player that was trying to catch on and get a big contract and you don't want to be labeled that. But Charlie Morton at his age and where he's at in his career and kind of a Johnny come lately as far as on the back end and into his thirties before he came, a really successful starter in Major Leagues, I think he's fine with it, he's the innings up. That's the reason you get to go to a six-man rotation and extend some of these guys. >> Look, the reality of the situation is, and the four and five spot in the rotation, which you want them to do is not taxed a crap, almost cussed, because I've been on the air and so long, out of the bullpen, you don't want to tax the bullpen, but while you allow the team to be, to win the game and allow the offense to do it. That's what frustrates me about guys that want to jump on the swelling block and use numbers. All he's won in five in his starts. That's what the team is in his starts this season. Yeah, but how many of those, how much of that won in five is on the fact that the offense has done nothing. He lost that game and it was his second, no, it was the game of Baltimore. So it was his third start, he gave up one run, a one earned run, I think, in that start, maybe two or whatever. That was the one where, you know, Olsie go, like, so the offense has let him down. They let him down Sunday to me. >> Right. And that's the thing too, when you look at Schwellenbach starts, and I do want to get y'all's answer on who is the most important offensive player, but when you look at Schwellenbach starts, it's always like one inning where he blows up and gives up a couple of home runs and then to our point, and we taught at John's Multibot this a couple weeks ago, he just locks back in. It's like nothing even ever happened, and he zones back in and throws some of the pitches. I do find it funny too, Bo, and I don't know if you and I have had a chance to talk about his comments, but you and I talked about the O2 pitches, the two strike pitches, getting out of things, going to throw it over the plate. And after a few starts, he comes and he's like, you know, I just have to learn to get out of these situations when I've got to go down into count to maybe let him make contact and do different things. That's fun to see him kind of grow in that role. >> And it's kind of what a lot of times the guys will say, I got to develop an out pitch. He's got it developed. He's got to know when to use it and where to locate it. Yeah, where to locate it. >> No, and back to the conversation about most important people as far as the second half goes. I think it would be easy to say Marcelo Zuna, Marshall is the most important player of the second half. I don't think that's fair. >> Right. >> Well, it's a great point. >> That's a great point because you don't know when you're getting Michael Harris back, right? And if you're going to ask, if you're going to continue to ask Jared Kellnick to hit at the top of the order and man center field and something he was not, I didn't think he'd be asked to do in a million years coming into the season, Michael Harris is your bulk club center fielder and your MVP guy was hitting in the leadoff spot. I think maybe he is. And I think that's a good point to if the Jared Kellnick, if he continues to do the same thing he does is a massively important part of the second half. >> Is emotional players he is having that pressure put on him is been so good for him and it's been in a way where it's like, hey, the team is not on your back. That's not what we are here. That's not what you are here, but it's time for you to have your moment. And I think that little bit of that, that whatever juice he's getting from being in a leadoff spot and the center fielder has been good for him. Now here's what I'm going to tell you. I don't know when Michael Harris is coming back because he's not even running yet. It's great. He's hitting and throwing, but none of that matters. What matters for him and his injury is running when Michael Harris does come back. He does not need to be in leadoff and I love Michael Harris, but Michael Harris is a better player when he's not trying to pressure it. Now the thing is, is leave counting there and now what it does is it opens it up for you to do other things with Michael Harris and maybe in a role where he might be better suited. I wouldn't have a problem putting him back in that eight or nine spot because that's I think, you know, if Michael's comfortable there, he gets all now. Kelnik's producing runs. I will say that Austin Riley, who has been pretty hot in the month of June, could be that guy. It also could still be Matt Olson could be the, but, but I was like, well, I'm rather myself. Who I'm leaning towards because he was so unproductive. For the first two and a half months, I'd say, well, I'd say, it was a long time. And then he, but I'll just put a number on it was lit it up, came to life. I think it might be Austin Riley is pretty good. Yeah, I agree with you. I think Austin Riley is the guy. Got to have him. Well, W sauce. >> That is what, yeah, hey, how's it going? No, we were vibing over here while you were doing the Zeno, you're heading your phone. But that's right. >> This is why I was so disappointed in you earlier, you know what I mean? >> I mean, he's lame, but not in the way that, you know. >> Yeah, all right, you know what, anyways, thanks for friends, W sauce get over to W sauce.com to find their brand new hot sauce and the Bloody Mary mix he was selling. And my friends at status truck and trailer repair, call a boy Anthony, big truck, small truck, feeding the size truck, Mike, box truck, so my truck, status is the official truck and trailer repair of squid edition. >> Do they do fifth wheel hitches? That's what I need to get hooked up. I'm ready to start pulling around the fifth wheel RV at some point, so I need a fifth wheel hitch. That's what I need to get done. >> You want a fifth wheel? >> Yeah. >> You can do it for you. >> When I get a travel trailer. >> You can do it for you. >> He can do it for you. >> He can do it for you. We'll call him. He'll hook you up. >> All right. >> I mean, even if you're in the mafia, he's a nation. >> Yeah. We'll talk about it offline, but we'll take care of you. >> All right. >> Absolutely. Well, I know you guys have missed me. Clearly. >> We debated this yesterday, we debated whether or not we did. >> Clearly, it just wasn't the same without me. I understand that. I get it. >> Definitely was not the same. >> I get it. But we're back from the Riviera Maya. We had, what, two laughing at. It's the other side of Cancun. >> It's Cancun. >> No, it's not Cancun. It's Riviera Maya. It's like an hour from Cancun. Tell him day day. You get on the air. You get correct. You can correct the little. >> Yeah, we've been there before. It's actually on the other side. My wife had to correct me. >> All right. >> Yeah. We went to this place called Barcello. >> Okay. >> Huge. We were the only adult only side. And they had go carts and one of the family ones, and we went over there. And there's three of us decided to do it. And I'm in first place. I have passed two cars that started in front of me, and I get firmly out in first place. And my buddy is behind me. And I am using the racing line, because it's a road course, you know? And so I'm trying to use what would be the racing line on a road course. Well, this fool is just trying to basically nose dive me every time. You dive on. >> That's what you do in go carts. >> Every time. But I keep hanging on the first place, even after wrecking. >> But you're actually physically driving a go cart. >> Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. And. >> Unlike your simulations. >> So finally, he wrecks me bad enough that I get stuck in the tires. And the guy has to come over and unhinge me. >> So you got wrecked. >> Yeah. And the audacity of the guy running the go carts goes, I'm going to go ahead and block. This is going to be your first black flag. And I want to tell you something, I almost came unbuckled. I was wrecked. I was my black flag, I almost came unbuckled, and I started to scream at this dude. And I realized that, well, for one, there is a language barrier. And when my southern accent gets going in English saying words probably shouldn't even be saying anyways, he's not going to know what's happening. >> And he's looking at the international thing though. >> Yes. >> Volume and anger. >> It's like a family side. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> All right. >> I almost wrecked a guy driving this kid. >> So you were keeping pace. And that guy was like, hey, man, Rubben's racing and knocked you out of the way. >> No, no, I would think of all people you respect that. >> I was keeping pace. Let's just put it this way. This has been like the equivalent of one of the guys we raced with just going in a turn and next thing you know, hitting the wall and bouncing back because he's going so fast. >> And the old diamond pattern. >> Yeah. That's exactly what it was. And so that was fun, but I came back weighing a pound less at an all-inclusive than I did when I went. >> So I said you look skinny. >> That's because I didn't eat for 28 hours. >> 28 hours. >> Because the last three days I had some then stomach related where stuff wasn't. >> Drink the water. >> No, I mean, not out of the fountain, I'll drink it out of the bottles. >> Man, you drink the water down there. >> Did you? >> Well, yeah, how do you brush your teeth? Like, did you? >> I brushed my teeth with it. But they have resorts. They have drinkable water. >> Water. >> I don't know, man. I'm looking at that. I don't know about the roof here or my office. >> So I don't want to call up Montezuma's revenge or whatever, but. >> Wouldn't you be in the hospital with that, isn't that very serious? >> I mean, I'm gonna tell you something. >> I can't remember. >> I woke up Sunday morning as we were about to leave. >> And in a two and a half hour span, I visited the bathroom six times. >> Yeah, bubble guts, okay. So that's unfortunate. We appreciate you sharing that with all over the office. >> I was gonna say, I just looked over to Z if maybe he did look thinner, like you were just down because you have been his hype man today, I wish he appreciated it. I did notice that he is today wearing the ever underutilized combination of blue on blue, which is just, you know, you talk about it, when blue on blue is an aggressive color combo and you go shirt to pants. >> Blue on blues, like you're really putting yourself out there. >> Brings out your eyes though, you know your eyes are kind of not, I guess they're like hazel. >> Blue on the eyes. >> I'm just typing you up today, so I'm just gonna keep pouring it on. >> You know, the funny thing about my eyes is they are actually blue, but they do change colors a little bit. They will be a little greenish depending on the light in the room and when I'm wearing. But I also- >> You did this. I just, I don't know why you're laughing, you did this. >> I also found out that I did not know my loyalty. I knew that I was loyal to Coke. I knew I was a Coca-Cola guy. But I did not know the extent of my loyalty to not having Coke available for a week with my Jack Daniels. >> Yeah. No, I do, there is, there is no bigger Coke in than me. I'm just like, I'm gonna put it this way. >> I don't drink soda. I don't drink soda. >> Stephanie, I'm gonna tell you one thing. There's a reason why they've always called it a Jack and Coke and not a Jack in anything else. >> Right, yeah. >> It goes way, way better with Coke than anything else. >> You didn't get a, you didn't go rum down that cuba lee bray or anything like that. You didn't go down that road, since you were south of the border, you didn't try to mix it up. >> No, no, I tried a few of the drinks like Tron Vacation and just weren't hitting right last week from me. >> I think they were heavy pours or were they being light because it was all inclusive. >> Oh no, they were not heavy pours. In fact, we finally got a bartender in the main bar that we would go to every night that we turned him into a heavy pours. Because we were heavy tippers. >> There's enough zeros. >> Yeah, exactly. >> I'm gonna tell you something. >> This guy was so good that by the middle of the week, I would walk to the bar and he would be like, he would give me that smile. And next thing I know, he would just bring the drink. The drink that he thinks that I want, which is the fine, it was the drink I was drinking every night. He'd just bring it to me. And it would taste like, I made it. And I was like, you're gonna continue to get taken care of. And he took care of me. Yeah, I think his name was Romeo, he was my dude. But anyways, great trip. I'm glad to be back. I really had a lot of fun. It was great. And we were able to celebrate me on my birthday, which is always fun. We poured another one out to me that, hey, I'll tell you something. They had a Japanese steakhouse there. That dude was like, he should have been working on botchie restaurants in the States. He was unbelievable. >> I guarantee he prints money down. >> He was unbelievable. But I got one more thing to hit for yesterday. >> How did you go to, you went to the Riviera and I had to go to a Benny Hana. >> I know, that's what I was like, what? >> Well, they had four restaurants. Say you, that was the only thing I didn't enjoy is you had to book, you had to physically go in person and book your dinner reservations, which doesn't work for me. And most of it, because I like to figure out that day what I want to eat. And most of the time you'd go somewhere, but yeah, we had a group of 12, dude. They're like, yeah, we got four at 6 p.m. for the French restaurant. I'm like, I don't want to damn French. Does this look like I got to eat a lot of French to you? I mean, yeah. >> I don't eat baguettes. >> I'll go get a foie gras or whatever, but I don't want to be eating that. I want the steak. I did. I won't say this, they had the buffet and they would cook to order those, the stan ribos. I probably had like eight to nine steaks in the first four days. Might have been warm. >> That's what's wrong with you, bro. >> Yeah, that's what's wrong with you. >> Yeah. >> He doesn't look so concerned. >> No, too much for that, mate. >> That beef, you got to be careful with the beef. >> Yeah, and you got to be careful with that gout flaring back up, too. >> I didn't get the gout. >> The gout showed up in my torso. >> Wait, you're gout? >> I do not have gout. He says I have gout. I got a case of turf toe. Anyways, but I'm glad to be back real quick, shout out. KSU, my alma mater, they officially became a member of conference USA yesterday. >> Wait, did you graduate from KSU? Oh, you did. Okay, it just took a while. I wasn't shocked, but maybe you told us that you never ended up. >> I thought one time he told us, but I thought one time he told us, when he quoted his alma mater, I was like, okay. >> Wait, we're going to have to go to break. That was so disrespectful. >> It didn't mean it to me. >> I'm a pro. I'm sorry. Do you want me? Did you graduate from Alabama? >> I did. It took me a while, but I did. >> Yeah, it took me a while, but I did. So congratulations, my alma mater. KSU. >> Congratulations to KSU. >> Congratulations to KSU. Happy birthday.
