NBC News Radio, I'm Lisa Taylor, President Biden will join Vice President Harris next week to campaign in Maryland on Thursday to discuss efforts to lower costs for the American people. It will be the first joint campaign event since Biden dropped out of the 2024 presidential race and Harris became the Democratic nominee for president. Tropical Depression Debbie is on track to hit the Northeast. More than 40 million people are under flood alerts from South Carolina to Vermont, and over 26 million people are under a tornado watch from Virginia to Delaware. Special Counsel Jack Smith wants to push back the deadlines in former President Trump's election interference case. Thursday, Smith asked the judge for more time to settle how to proceed after the Supreme Court ruled Trump does have some immunity protections as a former president. Smith asked for a three-week delay to determine how the case will move forward. The CDC is reporting that COVID-19 deaths are declining. It's now listed as the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S., as opposed to the fourth leading cause in 2022. A third person has died in Virginia in connection to a multi-state Listeria outbreak found in Borshead Deli Meet. Nedley Melyori reports. New Jersey's Holy Name Medical Center's chief infectious disease Dr. Siraj Kumar Suggar isn't sure how long it will take for Listeria to work its way out of the food chain. They're going to have a process where there's no new cases for a long period of time and they will assume that everyone is throwing out the potential for contaminating meat and they will start reselling them on the shelves. Dr. Suggar says Listeria can survive refrigeration, which is why it's important to wash foods. Suggar underscores many people recover from Listeria, adding sensitive groups include young children and older adults. A study suggests a common low-calorie sweetener may be riskier for the body than sugar. A Cleveland clinic trial tested how urethra-tall affects cardiovascular risk compared with sugar. Researchers found people who drank glasses of water with urethra-tall had an increased likelihood of blood clotting than those who drank the normal sugar drink.
