[MUSIC] Oh my goodness, welcome back into the college, it's like in his podcast. Steve and tee it up, tee it up, baby. >> My goodness, hey, it doesn't get more any instant reaction than this. I'm watching it literally across my television here. And this dumb team, Mitch Hanneker hits a walk off quote unquote double the right field as the ball sneaks past the right fielder here and they went full bad news bears out there, not totally, but kind of. And the Mariners walking off in the bottom of the ninth to salvage a win, not a sweep, a just serious loss to the lowly Detroit Tigers. So, man, wow. It's hard to get excited about it, I mean, it's fun to watch a walk off hit, you know, it's fun to see, you know, walk off anything's epic, but this doesn't feel awesome, it doesn't feel awesome here, man. Yeah, welcome back in, guys, to the columns that like it is, podcast, my name is Stephen Collins here with Sean Collins and Larry Collins, literally instant reaction, a second ago, Mitch Hanneker hit the walk off double the right field to drive into to win the game versus the Detroit Tigers. We lose the series two to one, but hey, feels a lot better than a sweep. What are you guys just emotionally right out of that? We were watching the game the whole ninth inning together, so I was catching a little bit of this. We all thought he was going to strike out, let's be honest. But, uh, you said ground out the shortstop. I know the shortstop one, but well, how are you guys feeling? Well, it's a walk off air because the right fielder missed it. I mean, it went under his glove, under his feet and under. Do they call it a double? We'll see. We'll see how it's going to get called the double. They gave the Detroit to pick up the air. It went from an L to a win in 10 seconds. 0.10 second, I don't know, but it, yeah, right fielder missed it. He's diving forward. So that was my instant reaction. So walk off air. Yeah, no doubles defense. That guy needs to learn about that concept because that was terrible defense. You cannot make that mistake in that situation. I mean, you, to make it, if you dive, you have to make that play. Otherwise, you look like such a schmuck. And he looks like a smoke play. Yeah, that's a, that's a game. Oh, yeah, I don't know if Mitch had a game winning play, but that right fielder sure made a game losing play, but Mitch, hey, I give him his flowers. He's the all time walk off leader and franchise history. Yeah. Hey, Mitch, you know, I'll give him credit. He didn't strike out, you know, that's right. You'd run his arm first and third, nobody out. And then you have back to back case, you just picture. Okay, here we go. We're about to get, you know, a third straight strike out and hey, Mitch, you put the ball and play, you know, put, hit the ball hard and, you know, the right fielder made a bozo play and I'm here for it. So I'll take any breaks we can get as a manager right now. I'm not going to complain about how we get wins. That's for sure. Realistically, I think that the situation right now as we're sitting, you know, instant reaction, the situation should be we have a runner on probably first and second with the score tied. Would that be the scenario? I mean, that probably should be what the runner from if he'd let it drop in front of them, bliss, because bliss was pinch running, right? Right. So he might make it to third, none of us know what Manny Act is doing. Let's be honest. Let's bring him down. He would have sent him. He would have sent him. Still have a decent chance to win this game, even if the right fielder does what he's supposed to do, which is just keep it in front of you and don't lose the game on a line drive. That's just, you can't let that happen if you're the right fielder. But my instant reaction, just from the series, is this was a disaster, an inexcusable disaster. And there's a lot of people that are, I think, funneling their energy towards Scott, being frustrated towards Scott, you know, talking about Miss Garver pinch hitting in game one. It's like, we shouldn't, you know, we scored one run in that game. Now the score is going to show that we scored two, but that was off some weird, you know, making mouse, little league play that we scored a run there. I'm not, I'm not funneling my energy towards what are we doing pinch hitting Garver? It's like, that's just not where my energy is at. And then game two, people are, I think rightfully so, very frustrated that we ended up bringing in Hernandez to pitch when we should have brought in a guy that was already warm and moon yoes and, you know, Scott's reasoning, I thought was not acceptable. But at the end of the day, you know, for us to lose this series, the house is on fire. And people are sitting here talking about, you know, oh, well, do we need to redo the kitchen flooring? It's like, I'm not even like, that's not even on my radar. My on my radar right now is that the team is playing sloppy on my radar right now is that we're in a pennant race, you know, we're in a division race, neck and neck with the Astros. The division is yours to have if you want it. And our effort is so in the toilet that it makes me sick. And you know, people are sitting here getting frustrated with Scott, Hey, I've been on Scott all year. And I've been on Scott, especially since the second half, but our effort and the Calvary has already come. The help has already come. There's no, there's nothing after this where we're like, Hey, yeah, you know, we at least we got trades coming. It's like, this is it. And you're still putting together this just lousy effort. Cal Rollie's got to call out the team after game two and just saying, Hey, where's the effort at? Yeah. You know, I'm paraphrasing there. But I mean, what are we doing? It's in the middle of August. And we're talking about effort like it's a little league game, you know, dad, you are a little league coach used to talk to me about an effort when I was, you know, in junior high basketball. These are professional athletes and they got to get on them about effort. Like you don't have a conversation about Scott, let's let's start there. I mean, I mean, the house is on fire and you're talking about the, the, you know, kitchen flooring. I mean, what are we doing? I mean, that's just kind of where my head's at with this whole series. I'm glad we got, you know, a salvage game because it means that we're tied for first place in the division somehow, some way. But the fact that we're wasting the starting pitching makes me sick. It makes me absolutely six, three games over 500 with this starting pitching, you know, we got three all star caliber pitchers, Brian Wu pitching lights out, Bryce Miller pitching lights out and we can't, we can't get over three games above 500. That's pathetic. It's absolutely pathetic. And this, this showing after the energy we brought in Philadelphia to put up this clunker of a series is awful. Yeah. And that's what Cal is calling out. We got to bring it energy every night and it's not happening. And fans deserve more and Cal is trying to stoke the fire and call out his players teammates. And that's what he said. They have to have the same energy every night. Yep. Yeah. It's the series was a microcosm of everything that's been wrong the entire year. We struck out 32 times in this series. That's against the, against the Tigers. The game one starter was a quad A guy. He shouldn't even be in Major League Baseball. Game three, they had a bullpen day, a bullpen day and we can't score any runs off of them and you're, you're supposed to be a first place team and I'm supposed to take you seriously. Yeah. What am I supposed to do with that? It's this series was a microcosm everything that's wrong, a bazillion case, three quality starts. Correct. Three quality starts. Technically. I believe. No, Kirby did not because he didn't know, no, because he, well you need six. Yeah. Six. Sorry. Close to three quality starts with a few bullpen guys having some disastrous moments, some base running blunders, some fielding, you know, just lacks a days ago, just like what is going on moments, scoring a lot of runs are required by solo home runs. And heroics late that feel really flooky, like, and that's, that's what it feels like. It takes to win. Yeah. If you're a Mariners fan, it just requires solo home runs, flooky and incredible starting pitching. And that's just not sustainable. So we've been saying all year long, this is not a sustainable way to win. And your point Sean, what Cal said is so on the money that you're a professional baseball player, you are in a tied for division lead, you are in a pin race against your arch rival. And you don't, like, how are you not absolutely fired up? And I get it, like, you can't let the highs be too high and the lows be too low. So, you know, there's, there's some reality of you have to be regulated out there. But for goodness sakes, like get off the melatonin man and like show, like show something out there. It's like, that's me and Scott is going to his lack of urgency. It's the same thing with saying, oh, yeah, his lack of urgency and demanding things to change will result in nothing changing. And we just watched with Robles, a Rosarina, and Justin Turner, the faces have changed. We've got rid of France, we've gotten, you know, certain guys have come back, come in, some guys have left. It's the same old story, which tells me this is institutional. No, it's nothing. I think there's something institutional going on here, like, I don't know what to do with it. And I'm not talking about institutional guys getting hot guys cooling off. I'm talking about there's something in the mindset that man, when they hit some sense of adversity. Where is the fight? Where is the fire? Where is it? And this isn't us just feeling it. Cal called it out to the energy is not there day after day. That is a massive, massive, massive indictment on Scott, like that's his job. I mean, look at the tigers. They got AJ Hinch as their manager. They're playing for absolutely nothing. They're playing for pride. That's it. That's all the tigers are playing for. And they're coming out hungry. They're coming out motivated. They're coming out with fire. They're coming out. You can see it tangibly on the field. They are playing with energy. And they are playing for nothing. They don't have Riley Green. They don't have Carrie Carpenter. They traded away Mark Cana and they still are fighting. And our team, we look like, I think it's a great way to put it, they look like they're about ready to curl up for nap time with their melatonin. And it's boring. And as a fan, I'm sitting here watching it going like I'm ready to go to bed. This is not exciting. You know, it's it's and not every game has to be fireworks. You can have an exciting game winning two to one. You could have an exciting game with energy and energetic fan base and energetic stadium and energetic team winning close games that are, you know, you don't need you could strike out 15 times a game and still have energy. I'm not like it's or look pissed off that you struck out 15 times like like you care. Like the bother you like it's all that stuff. It's they did show some fight in the ninth inning and I want to give them some grit for that right now. You know, all that. That's great. It's so slightly reminds me of Pete Carroll that can you win a game in the first quarter or no, can you win in the second and it's like all of a sudden there's two minutes left in the fourth quarter and a different team shows up and it's like, can we not have that same energy off the whole game? Yeah. He's Louise is just some of that going on with this team and it's it gets old. I think just well, you said it just gets old. This isn't a two week stretch is a whole season. That's the whole season. This is like multiple years of this stuff and it's just getting old. This isn't a fun watch right now. And we said this before is an entertainment product. This is not entertaining. I'm bored. And we love the Mariners, man. We're psychos up here. I was telling somebody I was just at the, you know, Hillsborough hops, you know, ever ox socks game and like, do we're sickos that can, you know, talk about who's in high A, you know, like we're weirdos here and I'm bored watching the Mariners. They're not giving me a reason to turn on the TV. It's a work watch. If we are doing this podcast, I would not be glued into the level I'm glued in right now. Like there's a sense of man, this is, this is not, it's not enough. It's just not enough for the talent we have. What's been, what's been eye opening for me this year is you have a team like the Oakland days who are literally playing in front of somewhere between 2000 and 5,000 fans a game. And they are literally moving to a triple A stadium next year. And I watched occasionally I'll watch the A's. They're the local team for me and I'll watch them on TV and I see a team that has fire. I see a team that is ready to play every single day. Are they good? Heck no. But they show up ready to play. They show up with fire. They show up energized. They're hungry. Absolutely dad. They are hungry. Yep. What a different form. It sounds like it seems like we're hungry to, you know, go to bed. That's, that's our, that's what we're hungry for. Yeah. And I thought that Randy Rozzarena was going to change this. That's what, honestly, if my tone is such a 180 from last week, it's because I thought that this was over. You bring in a guy like Randy Rozzarena to change this. You bring in a guy like Justin Turner to change this and it's the same for lack of a better word stuff. Yeah. Yeah. Well, that was Scott's comment and a couple of games ago against the Tigers. Just saying they're youth, they, they bring the fire, they, they bring a hunger and that's exactly what we're seeing out of the Tigers. That's why they, they played to the level they played in this three game series because they're hungry. They brought fire because of their youth. They have something to prove. Um, that's the trade off. Now do I think veterans can't bring fire? I think they can. I think Cal. I was trying to do fire up his teammates, um, even, you know, at Rozzarena, he did strike out two times tonight, but he also, I think, popped it up to second and he showed a little frustration coming into the dugout, which I appreciated that. Well, you know what, just hearing you say that, that makes that just, uh, fires me up to hear Scott say that team feels like they have something to prove. Well, guess what, Scott, you've never won anything. This Mariners franchise doesn't want anything. I've hung a division banner out there since I was 11 years old, man, and I'm in my mid thirties. Like you guys, like they have something to prove you have something to prove. You've never won under this regime, a division title. You never made a world series as a franchise. You never hung a championship banner out in the rafters. Like for goodness sakes, we have something to prove like, and, and that's the part that really makes me angry is when they're actually like they've been there, done that as if we're some per, we're not sitting there as the, you know, Steph Curry warriors, having one, you know, a bunch of championships is like, well, you know, it's hard to fight for motivation. It's like, you've never won anything. Like if anything, you should be hungry. You should be like, yeah, we're going to say this is the year we're going to take down the dragon. We're going to finally eliminate the Astros from playoff contention. We're going to take the mantle and we're going to take first place back. Like this is our time for goodness sakes and it's like they're acting like this entitled team that's like been there, done that year after year as if they have nothing to prove anymore. And it's like, like from a meta narrative here, the mariners have never proven anything. Like you should be the most hungry stinking team out there. I don't want to hear that youth is what brings hunger. Like now having one should bring hunger. I think Scott has been preaching it for two years, two seasons that it's a long season 160. It's going to turn around up and downs and ups and downs and ups and downs and ups and downs. We know the speech. We did. We got the, we got, we got it. The card down. Yeah, I got that. Yeah. And that's what the team has taken on. We're just going to go with the flow here and no, not get too high and not get too low. And I think that's what we're seeing. I think we're seeing Scott's personality, which I don't think it's a, you don't want to get too high and you don't want to get too low. That's a true statement, but there has to be spread out the highs and the lows with a little bit of emotion. You don't have to be just a one straight. Why? That means you're dead. Like literally on the, so I think we've taken that mantra, just a little too serious as we are. We are very professional team. We are, I think our demeanor is pretty, is professional. Now Robliss and Arosarana, they bring in some character and some life and I like to see some more of that. Yeah. We totally will get back. Hopefully that'll rub off to you. Now that's something we should talk about is, is Julio and this hip, hip injury, right? No. Come on. I'll be honest. Today's been a day. And so I'm. All right. All right. All right. Today's been a day. And so yeah. Hi, ankle sprain. I ankle sprain. Yeah. You're getting mixed up with Robliss has the hip injury. Yes. Yes. And Julio, he got hurt when he crashed into the wall with the griffy play. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Watch the spider man again. Yes. Yes. I pictured it just mixed up my players. Steven, it was the play where he. Okay. I'm just joking. Julio. We'll sign him. Was he a free agent? Yeah. Was he a trade deadline acquisition? Yeah. Never heard of him. Let's see if he works out. No, but he. This injury is lingering. It's lasting longer than we thought. And one of the. One of the conversations has been, man, do we bring him back as just a DH, right? And so Sean, I'm curious what you think about that. As another spark, a bat that was absolutely on fire before he went down with that injury. What would you do? Yeah. I'd get it. If anyway, you can get Julio in the lineup. I would get him in the lineup. I think a lot of people are hesitant because they're sitting there going, well, you know, a lot of Julio's value is the defense. A lot of Julio's value is his ability to steal bases 100%. But at the same time, Julio's bat, when it's hot, which it was leading into this injury, that is a tool that even if that was his only tool, would be a really good major league baseball player. So I think he got to figure out a way to get that into the lineup, put it into the three hole, even if it just is providing that personality we're talking about, this team needs that desperately. And you're only talking about taking Mitchenager out of the lineup, who's not exactly, you know. It's Garver. Yeah. Yeah. You're talking about taking Mitchenager out of the lineup and I'm okay with that. There is there is a replaceable franchise leader Sean on walk off hits. I mean, you're a placeable. You are running the risk of re-injury, but that's a whisk. That's a whisk. That's a. There did Elmer Bud there for a second of that is something that you have to risk right now because you don't have the luxury of, you know, kicking that can down the road. You don't have a 10 game lead. You blew that one. So if we had a 10 game lead right now, I'd say, Hey, you know, don't come back till you're a hundred thousand percent ready. Nope. Right now we need whatever version of Julio, if you can stand in the box and make a full swing, I need you in the box, making a full swing period and a story and they're doing that that as soon as he can, he will be doing that. So whether you agree or disagree, that is going to happen. Yeah. 75% of Julio is better than 100% of Mitchenager right now. Let's just. I can't be. What are we talking about? Yeah. Yeah. Someone's got to give. I mean, this team has just been hot, cold when they're on and it comes together. It's beautiful. Like it's just it's incredible. Like, man, that Philly series was something special and man, when it's clicking, this team has a world series ceiling and when it's not, we look at one of the worst teams in baseball and that's hyperbolic. I mean, when we, when it's not working, we are literally one of the worst teams in baseball. When it's working, we're literally one of the best and I think that's the part that if I, again, I'm external, what we're doing here is just externally processing, even like what we just saw and, you know, and we're not going to tell anybody how to fan. Like, if you're super excited about Mitchenager hitting the walk off and you're having a great night, awesome. Yeah. That's great. Like we're here to watch this team and I'm happy about the win. That's great. But what I'm frustrated about is I do this team actually could go places. This team actually has a chance to do something special that's never been done in the history of the stinking city, the history of the stinking region. You actually had a shot to do that to make a real push at a pennant. You know, you got a real chance to put a banner up there for generations of fans that have never seen one put out there. You got a real chance to do that this year. Like, there's not an American, like, now that Orioles are the best team in the American League, nobody right now just looks unbeatable. Nobody, the Mariners should look across and say, there's no universe that we could ever beat them. Like with this starting pitching, with the names that we have in this lineup, man, there should be some fight. There should be they should be angry that they're not playing to that potential because it's there and we've seen and Scott should be ticked off, man. This is like, this is a team is a reflection of you and we're even hitting our 54 percent. I think that's the other part. It's like, we're even like, we're, we're, we're in danger of being a below 500 team. Yeah. Like really. And so I think just because this isn't a team like the Seattle Seahawks right now, it's like, there's not a universe where they're going to win the Super Bowl this year. We all know that like, that's fine. But like this team, the mayor's actually have a chance in shooting, like made some additions. Yeah. Now just talking about Rodriguez, Adam Jude of the Seattle Times, he reported that they expect Rodriguez back in the road trip. So we go on road trip after this New York Mets series and he's going to be playing DH. He's going to probably play DH the first few games. So that's the plan. He's got to be able to turn. He's got to be able to, you know, after he gets his base hit, he's got to make his turn and stop and come back. And so he's got to be able to stop and be able to run. So that's what they're waiting on that high ankle sprain. So we won't see him during the Mets series, but on the road trip. Yeah. Hey, you can't come back soon enough. Sean, any just last thoughts on the on the mayor of the series, the state, I know this has been a lot of like emotional vent, which is, which is therapeutic and cathartic for me. That's for engaging in it. Hopefully for you guys, it is too as yeah, it's, it's just been a frustrating week of baseball right now. Sean, I anything else you want to say about the Mariners before we actually shift gears to another subject? Yeah. I think that we have to acknowledge the decision to not bring in Garcia, not to bring in Munoz. They elected to go with Hernandez game to litter. Yeah. We, yeah, it's that decision. So we're down by a run. It's the ninth inning and we have Munoz ready and warm. We don't go to him. We go to Hernandez instead. They have a, you know, four run inning, I believe, no, three run inning and we end up losing six to two and really gives you no chance at all. And it's crazy to me that we would pitch a guy in a, in a one run game and then immediately DFA. Or not DFA. But send him back down to Tacoma makes, makes no sense. Was me DFA. Was he? I don't know. It's not, it was DFA because that, well, anyway, I'll look it up, but go ahead with your thought. It's super frustrating. It doesn't make sense. It doesn't. It feels like he's waving the white flag in a game that you actually have a chance to win. Like the second time he's waved a white flag, in my opinion, he waves a white flag when he had Diaz pitched to Devers that to me, he was like, okay, are you, I don't know. I mean, I'm not going to sit here and accuse Scott of blowing a game on purpose. But like, what do you think was going to happen? Yeah, totally. What do you think that outcome was going to happen and when you pitch Hernandez in a one run game, it just tells your team, like, no, I don't believe in you. I don't think that you can come back. That's just the messaging. And the team played. I like it. So, yeah. Hernandez is an honor. 40 man. Okay. So yeah, DFA. Yeah. Okay. That's what I read. And why are we, why are we bringing in? Okay, what's with Bazzardo? Can somebody answer that? Why do we keep bringing Bazzardo back? He strikes people out. His K rate is pretty good. I'll tell you what, if you need somebody to make an eight to one game, that was peaceful and exciting or peaceful and just like a really enjoyable experience on a, you know, Sunday afternoon, you know, you got the Sunday afternoon and you want to take that nap. You know, you're up eight to one and you just want to have a heart attack. You just want to get the blood pumping, baby. You just want to feel like alive. Bazzardo is your guy, man. He could get his kid right back. I think they, I think they like his pitches. I think they like the shape of his pitches and he does strike people out. He has good pitches. He just doesn't pitch good. That's the problem. Yeah. Money ball. No, they do like his pitches. They like him. Oh, I'm sure I've got no doubt that they like his pitches because he, because he's on our roster, but like, he's just not a, he's not a throw in. I mean, he's there on purpose. Yeah. He's, it blows my mind. Let's move on. There's my mind that we keep going back to Bazzardo and it's bizarre. It's bizarre that they could go into Bazzardo. Let's move on. There's some Seahawks stuff. We want to talk about it. Hey, I'll tell you what, the Mariners are not doing me any, I'll put it this way. The Mariners are not making me keep my eyes on them. And as things are heating up, training camp, as things are heating up at the V-Mac, man, my eyes, my, you already know that I'm, I'm, I'm, my, my heart really beats for the Seattle Seahawks. And so, man, there's some exciting things going on. So, uh, if you are a Mariners fan, you're like, I don't give a rip out the Seahawks. Thanks for listening. Give it a like, share, subscribe for the rest of us. Holy smokes, training camp. It's been radically different, uh, all the people on the ground there are saying vibe is different. There was one thing that Pete Carroll could have never done in year 14, and that's be a fresh start. There's just, it's not possible for him to, and people are not like this regime. It's just a fresh start. Who knows if it'll be better, but it's different. People talking about Geno looks better than they ever looked. Uh, he's utilizing the middle of the field in a way that hasn't been done. People all across the building saying Geno looks amazing, uh, same as hell, not so much, but Geno's looking killer out there. I mean, an absolute, I mean, he's having an absolute killer training camp, um, DK Metcalf and Tariq Wallen are both absolutely balling out, which is great to see. Those are two guys on the roster along with, you know, Devin Witherspoon that really do have all pro ceiling in them, and then both playing like that, and they've been chippy with one another. And, uh, you know what, the Mariners can't seem to swing a bat, but DK Metcalf, he can swing a helmet, apparently. And so we can get him over to D mobile, man, because, uh, then that story's been a little bit overblown. It sounds like Trey Brown. Uh, if you don't know what happened in the back of like NFL networks coverage of the practice, DK Metcalf, Trey Brown are like throwing punches and swinging helmets, and it was, it was pretty hilarious. But, um, everyone was fine, uh, but yeah, DK and Trey Brown have been going at it all camp. Uh, there's just a fire and a tenacity, and the narrative around that, if everything's going great and that team's tough and they're getting after it, you know, and they start out and they feel like the bully on the block, everyone's going to say, Oh, those fights, that's a good thing. That showed a real, uh, change of culture. Now, if they're undisciplined and it's a dumpster fire the first couple of weeks, everyone's going to look back at this and say, see, this is an undisciplined team and Mike McDonald in over his head. And so the verdict, we don't know yet what it's going to look like. So, uh, depending on how they do, we'll be the narrative about how these camp fights are. Uh, but I, you know, you know, they've been going at it for a few months now and, you know, uh, in the LOB days, they were fights all the time. So I don't necessarily have a problem with fights, uh, and I, I think swinging helmets would be out of bounds. And I think, uh, uh, you know, getting quarterbacks involved would be out of bounds. Uh, we don't need to get them hurt, but generally speaking, chippiness, John at each other, showing some fight toughness, you're not going to get too much critique from me. And I think you guys are both on the same page with that. When it comes to chip, you have practice. I'm in. I'm in. You got to support your teammate. That's on your side. It's off against defense. And that's what they're doing 11 on 11 and you're going to support your, your side of the ball. Yeah. Yeah. I'm like, yeah, I'm like baseball where you don't get too high. Don't get too low. No football. Get as high as you can. Pure adrenaline. That's the name of the game. Yeah. So some names that I'm hearing are having a great camp, uh, Jason, uh, who needs to take a big step. Obviously first round pick, uh, from a couple of years ago, he's, he's having a great camp so far. It sounds like Witherspoon's having a great camp again. I mentioned DK and, uh, uh, Trique Woolen, uh, apparently Woolen's put on some weight, which is great to see him. He has to get more physical in the run game. Uh, that's great. Maybe, maybe explain something to people because I think a lot of our listeners are going to be baseball fans just because that's when we started our podcast talking baseball, I think a lot of people, uh, you know, any of our new listeners are going to be Mariners fans. When you say somebody has got a great camp, what did, what do you mean by that? Because I think that can be a confusing, uh, kind of football lingo that not a lot of people are going to get. Does that just mean they, uh, you know, are running crisp routes, you know, or like what, what does that mean? Oh, they look great in camp. Because a lot of it's wearing shorts, you know, and you sure now the pads are on now. So, so we're actually playing real football now these days. So we're playing real football. They're in full pads. Uh, DK Metcalf, something that's been very critical, uh, about DK Metcalf. He doesn't high point the ball. He's six, you know, whatever and he's, you know, uh, has all the physical tools in the world, but he doesn't high point the ball, which if he did, he'd be virtually unstoppable. And uh, he's been doing that, which has been exciting to see in camp. He's, uh, um, uh, some of the, like you're saying, he just looks more dominant than he, than he has. Uh, but what's been really exciting and he's been, you know, Trey Brown and him have been getting after it. But the guy who's been running stride for stride with them and has been given him every bit that he can handle has been Drake. And so what's been great to see is guys, uh, win and reps and then coming back and the other guy, win and reps. And so there's just a, there's a tenacity. There's a, uh, a crispness, a sharpness in, uh, the way the offenses is operating and the defense is operating that feels unique and people in the building, I'm not at the V-Mac every time, you know, but people that have been there watching this regime, you know, over the last 10 years of the peak compared to this have said, the contrast is just really stark, uh, a speed, a toughness, an intensity, and for Pete, you know, there's this always compete was the mantra, but let's be honest, that really stopped. Um, you know, after the LOB, you know, kind of came in, they was really, people had their spots and it's hard to compete when you're competing against Earl Thomas and, you know, Russell Wilson and Bobby Wagner, whereas there's a fierce competition. There's real spots and for grabs and you can feel it in the air. And so, um, yeah, there's, there's, uh, pretty much, I mean, we gave Jordan Love, he's a safety, that big contract and he's had a great, uh, campus well, he's making plays on the ball, uh, which is exciting. Um, yeah, one thing that's been really cool with Tariq Woolen is obviously he has great ball skills. Um, he's just as big as, as tall as, uh, DK McAfee, he's probably the fastest guy on the team and, uh, what's been exciting is him being more physical. Uh, that's, that's been the biggest critique about Tariq Woolen, he's been more physical as camp, which is exciting, uh, Geno Smith, um, the thing that they're talking about is utilizing the middle of the field in a way that we haven't seen from a CX quarterbacks and probably since probably Matt Hasselbeck. And so that's, that's exciting to see, uh, people are talking about the way that grubs offense looks, it just looks different. Yeah, Shane Waldron, it, when it was working, it looked awesome and he didn't seem to have any counters for anything. And he was the offensive coordinator, Shane Waldron. If you're, you know, kind of a casual Seahawks fan, uh, we have a new offensive coordinator with, uh, the new head coach, Mike McDonald and grub is running a very different offense. It's the, if you were a fan of the university of Washington, Huskies football, he was the, uh, he was, he was over there. And so, um, it's been radically different. This has been radically different. And man, the biggest story for me coming out of camp is the Connor Williams signing, which is a big deal. Right. It's a center. Um, dad, do you want to tell us a little bit about Connor Williams and I think it, it rather, I don't know if you, if you know much about where he was before, if not, I can, I can fill in. No, no. Well, obviously he, he was playing for Miami, got hurt in the last year and I think that's a second injury in a short amount of time. And he was one of the top ranked centers in NFL, but his injuries, he was looking for a contract and never signed with anybody. So he's still available and Seattle brought him in. He passed the physical and took about another week or so to sign a contract and negotiate with other teams, but Seattle won the day and we got ourselves a high caliber center, probably the best center we've had since, um, hunger. You can take the word probably out of that sense. Yeah. Well, what did we have? We, we signed that. No. Connor Williams. Yeah. Connor, well, it's a big deal. And it changes the dynamic, the opposite line. Right. Coming before we signed Connor Williams, there was a massive question mark. If you're like, Hey, I haven't followed the Seahawks. We have two rookie tackles, uh, with, or two rookie contract tackles, excuse me, uh, Charles Cross and a blue kiss and a blue kiss right now is her. We have, uh, is covering from a knee injury. We have George Fant in there as a serviceable swing tackle, uh, our guard position at left guard, uh, seems like that's locked in, um, with Lincoln, um, Thomas, I think this is, isn't it? Yeah. Uh, Lincoln, Thomas, and he played for the Rams and, uh, he played for the 49ers. Excuse me. And actually it was a pro bowl two years ago. And so, uh, he's got some upside there. Connor was a real question mark with Olu Oletimi or, um, Nick Harris. And so that was going to be a real question mark. And then right guard, we got the rookie Christian Haynes, duking it out with Anthony Bradford. And so we had two real question marks on the offensive line. What do we do at center and what do we do at right guard? We now only have one question and if you can reduce your question marks by 50%, uh, that's a good thing. And so it's really good thing. It's, uh, it's a plug and play. It's fine to have a rookie out there and have questions at right guard. That's not a big deal. Christian Haynes is going to win that spot eventually. Uh, getting, getting Connor Williams is a big deal. He's a pro bowl caliber center. He's, he's not just like a guy. Uh, he's not just a veteran presence. He's a upside guy that if he plays well, you're talking about signing him to a massive deal. I mean, he's, he's, he's a guy that, I mean, there's literally clips of him pushing around Aaron Donald. That's who we're talking about. We're talking about a guy who's physical, a guy who's got, I mean, maybe not blue chip upside, but I mean, you're, you're talking about, um, general pro bowl caliber center. I mean, one of the best centers in football. And so he's four, three center, he's second ring, run a blocker and I believe he's seventh in the past block, but fourth overall, yep, it's a big deal. But he, like you said, he's pro bowl caliber, but the, he's maxing his salary. He has three million guaranteed, but it's a max of six million. So even if he does get the max, it's, it's a great deal. It's a great deal. Yeah. He's betting on himself. And he's one year deal, prove it and then go cash in, which is great for Seattle. One other guy that's getting a ton of buzz that people just can't help themselves when it sounds like, uh, anybody who's interviewed, who's somebody that's popping at camp, everyone. And this is the name we all want to hear, Byron Murphy is absolutely, he's different. He is just different. And so, uh, I think it was Jordan Hankins, he's a defensive tackle that's been in the league for a long time. He said, this guy's got defensive rookie of the year written all over him. And so you got to love to see it. But this year about if you're Seattle Seahawks fan is building a core that can one day compete for a championship. This year is not about making a deep playoff run, but seeing is witherspoon is woolen is DK is JSN is Byron Murphy, you know, cross Lucas, these young court, you know, Kenneth Walker. Is this a core that you can build a championship team around? And all, all signs out of camp is it's been a ton of positives. People are looking good. Very few people are disappointing and that's a welcome site. So overall, just want to take a couple of minutes and give some love to the Seahawks because vibes might be cratering up a T mobile, but down at the V Mac, things are, things are encouraging. And people that are really following this team said this isn't smoke. This is, this feels different. So hey, that's a welcome site. And hopefully the Mariners can keep our eyes there for a little longer and make a deep playoff run and get us just being like, ah, wait, wait, wait, but man, vibes are high at the V Mac. Yeah. Go watch some Seahawks. Yeah. Absolutely. Go ahead. No, absolutely. Any, any last thoughts guys, Seahawks Mariners before we close this thing down and he's mentioned just having the core, you know, Murphy and witherspoon, woolen, you know, woolen, even though he couldn't tackle anybody last year, he actually had a good season flag football, he would have been an all pro. But no, he actually was one of the top rated cornerbacks was, which is actually kind of surprising because of all the non tackles he tried to avoid, you know, tried to two hand touch. He was great. But I think we are building a core and can we make the playoffs? I think I don't know if we're going to do anything in the future about predictions. No, we will. We will. I think it's very possible we could be a playoff contender and if that core that we're building even takes a step throughout the season, step forward, like we could be hitting hitting our stride maybe a year early. So, yeah, but everything's got to go right. Yeah, there's there's reasons to be excited if you're excited, if you just been kind of casually tuning in, hey, it's a new regime and there's legit excitement. And now this is more excited that I've been about a Seahawks team for years. There's real reason for real optimism and hope as it's a regime change and we'll see what it looks like. None of us know. It's a Donald Seahawks team looks like we've never seen it. It's new. It's exciting. It's fresh. Can't wait. But yeah, Sean, any last thoughts before we close this thing down, Mayor Seahawks, you get the final word. No, I'm excited for the Seahawks season. You know, to be honest, the last couple of years have been just a drag. It's been hard to hold my attention on the Seahawks front. But this year I'm, you know, I'm excited to watch Seahawks football. I don't, I think you guys are being a little optimistic saying they're a playoff team. I do think it's possible, but I see this team being more, you know, somewhere in that seven win range. I just, I think they, they do have holes on their roster that I, you know, a team like the 49ers, team like the Rams, I just don't see them finishing better than third in their own division. And if we're talking about that as a realistic landing spot for this team, I just don't know how we could be like, oh, you know, playoff team. And I think those, I think they're sealing is because if people played to potential, because we got those two linebackers, one year contracts and Baker and Dodson with potential as much as anybody. Now can they play to that? Yeah. That's always the question. I just think it's going to be interesting to see what they look like offensively. Got all the, you know, the pieces there. Yeah. Yeah. I think Smith and Jigba, DK, you know, Lockett, it'd be fun to see him. This might be his last ride. We'll see. Kenneth Walker, Charbonnet, I mean, that's a real skill position and we do have an offense. Yeah. Exactly. And we have, you know, I think an offensive line that's going to be able to keep Geno upright. So yeah, I do think that it's going to be a fun season. And at the end of the day, it's kind of the opposite of what we're talking about with the Mariners. I hope that this team shows there's always a team where you're like, I think about the Lions a few years ago, or it's like, Oh, man, I don't want to play them. Are they good? I mean, they're getting there, but you can just see it. You're like, Oh man, this team is just ready to be unlocked. And that's what I'm hoping for for this year is for it to be like, Oh man, maybe we only win seven or eight games, but man, we're annoying, you know, that's what I, that's what I really hope for this. I think that's more of a 2012 Seahawks team. That team was really good. We want to play off game and you know, I think that that's probably over or like the 2011 Seahawks. Yeah. Beast quake. That's what we're talking about here. It's like, man, this team is annoying. They're fiery. They're gritty. They piss people off. That's what I want to see from this team. And then next year, the year after get some more draft picks, get some more blue tip talent and then go in another Super Bowl. Yeah. So one thing that, well, I mean, just say one quick thing, Mike McDonald said at a press conference that, which is a little surprising that the all saying, you know, who's going to make the Mariners click who runs the Mariners success to Leo, right? We know as goes Julio, so goes the Mariners. Well, Mike McDonald said, so goes Gino Smith, so go the Seahawks. So that was a little surprising a comment. So that's how much Mike McDonald is looking at Gino Smith that he's impressed by Gino Smith and that Gino can take us places. So I thought that was an interesting comment. Yeah. I mean, that's that's the NFL, right? You'll go as far as your quarterback takes you. And as far as we can tell, it's this training camp and Gino's looked like a different guy. Yep. And for goodness sakes, you talk about quarterbacks on a rookie deal. I know we were joking about it on a previous podcast. If you quarterbacks on rookie deals and cheat code, Gino Smith is closer to a rookie contract for quarterbacks than he is in the highest paid quarterbacks, like just the math. He's a little closer to Brock Purdy than he is, you know, Trevor Lawrence as far as money goes. If he can be, if he can, if he can be what these guys are saying he can be, that that's where things get pretty darn exciting. But we'll see. Sean, I think you're exactly right though. If this team can be scrappy, annoying and just you got some pieces that feel like it's a core, that that's success. They can win six, seven games and be that and it's still a very successful season. And so Mariners, you got to do better than that. If you've got all the players, you got the core, man. So you better cash the sucker in. So guys, give us a like, a share, subscribe. Thanks for tuning in and get the Mets got the Mets don't win a series for goodness sakes. Nice. He's Louise. Hey, got to walk off wind today, build on it. Keep the same rolling. Go take a division. Go make a run Mariners. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.
