(upbeat music) - Ripple FM, weather. - Here is your weather forecast for today. Cloud breaking to leave sunny spells and a scattering of showers. Isn't it? Especially when you're a bit peckish and you want your lunch. So welcome guys, thank you so much for coming. I can't believe it's been 12 months since you were sat here last. It's been... It's flown by, absolutely flown by, absolutely. It's crazy how quickly life goes by but I'm so pleased you are here because you've got lots of nice things to tell us about. The first thing that I wanna know is when is it Colin? Yeah well it's on the 19th, 20th and 21st of July and we've specially planned it to coincide with some brilliant sunny weather. Which it will be, it has to be doesn't it? Just think, a lot of averages would you want. We absolutely would. We really will not be like it was last year. And to be fair June's not been the best does it? So you know, July's got to be a lot better as you would think so. So come on weather, that's all your life. Mind you, spirits were high so it was great, you know it was rain. Was that just in the show? Yeah it was still high, yeah. Or those tents around about? Yeah, absolutely. So what have we got on offer then Colin? Well can I mention first of all just remind people that although the weather was tough last year we have over a mile of installed special tracking which means whether you're a driver going to say disability scooter or you're pushing a primer, push chair or whatever you can get around almost all of the show without touching foot on grass. We'd love you to go on the grass as well by the way. Well yeah absolutely. So that walk, those new walkways, were they brand new last year? No no, we've had them for a number of years but we keep increasing. So the cost this year will be in excess of £30,000 just to put that in. Wow. It gives you some idea of what's involved but effectively it becomes our insurance policy. Yeah. Because it will ensure that people can get around. We've especially pleased for the disabled people that can get them very easily. And I will just put a plug in here, Millicare provided all of the disability scooters are free of charge. We charge for them and then all that charge goes to a local hospice. So everybody wins on that point of view. Yeah that's wonderful isn't it? That's really good. And being a new grandma, I'll be there pushing my little babies around so I need somewhere nice to push. You don't look old enough. I know, thanks again. I'll take that money back, thank you. It's only last week. You wanted to know what was new didn't you? We've got all the things you would expect. Show jumping, a huge amount of showing. The livestock is fantastic again. Even more marquees than before it's become a huge party then. And some of the entrants travel from all over the UK. But specifically new this year we have sheep racing in the main ring. We have... So they all rest each other like in a line because they're a bit like that. On the sheep they just follow each other. We have landrove, electric landrovers for children. Children can sit too abreast. It's very safe, it's in an enclosed area and there is no charge. So all families can use that without worrying about the cost. It's like the Children Village which is there as usual. Again there are no costs involved unless you want to buy a glass of squash or something like that. So the aim of the committee is very much to make the show affordable. So the family tickets are not expensive at all. Particularly if you buy them early which you can do now before the show. And the idea is that when you're in the show you spend very little. You don't have to buy food at the show you could bring it with you. I mean there's plenty of stores to buy some fantastic stuff and we have some new stores here this year as well. But the idea is to make this affordable for all families. Brilliant, that's wonderful. I'm particularly interested in the little landrovers. What age can the children go in from now to now? Well you can two children in the side by side. I don't know I would think of them three to about nine or ten depending on the size of the children. Because they'll look at that. It's very safe, it's enclosed in an area. That's really good. So do they just have to like push and steal them? Just steal them. They're fantastic. Most shows would charge for them. But we prefer to agree a higher charge with the people that provide them and then you don't have to pay anything for it. Same with the giant tortoises we have. We did the same thing with those. We have them again this year. Talk to me about the tortoises. Well there's huge tortoises and at some shows you would pay to go in and to stroke them pet them. Whatever. And the tortoises love that by the way. I felt that was unfair on founders that couldn't afford it or had too many children. So we're going to pay... That's too many children. So we agree a few with the the people that provide sources at the start and then everybody can build the same. We also have a zip wire this year. Oh you need to pay for that. You'll have a fat series. But they're quite near the entrance so you can have a go on a zip wire. How long is it? How long is it? It's about 60 metres. Brilliant, that's good isn't it? And how high? High enough. Really high. High enough. That's good. And is there an age limit on that? To be honest I'm not totally sure. But I think you would need to be a teenager probably to do that. Yeah it's just... But it's not a long way off the ground it's quite safe. But you know there are especially people that provide the zip wire to make sure that it's done in a very safe and proper manner. Of course they will do yeah. But the excitement of being high up and just freeze is wonderful isn't it? Almost flying. Love that. That's great, it's just some proper new... The show evolves all the time and you do listen to people don't we in the comments and it just gets better and better. Yeah they look like... And I've been to one or two other shows which I won't mention. But I don't know a show that has the amount of variation of attractions that we have. So whether you love showing, show jumping, sheep, cattle, whatever. I'm sorry I'm banging the table again now Ruth. I'll tell you didn't have to tell me about that. Getting excited and carried away. But no the problem is how you cover everything in one day to some people come for two days. Yeah which is great. Can you get a two-day pass if you want to or is it you'd have to pay? You'd have to pay two tickets. Two tickets, yes. And the Friday is cheaper than the weekend. Yeah. And I stress again if people buy their tickets beforehand there's a significant saving. Great news that is good. Right okay well we're going to come back in a little bit if you'll stay with and we'll talk a little bit more about it. We are players so sad that we are pawns. But we've been making money since the day that we were born. We've got some slowdowns because we're low down. Run around in circles, live a life of solitude. Until we find ourselves a partner, someone to relate to. Then we'll slow down before we fall down. We've got stars direct to our faith and we play and it's not too late. 'Cause we know we're falling for brave, smooth at the end. Live for liposuction and detox for your brand. Overdose the Christmas and give it up for Lance. My brands are all so cynical we refuse to keep the pace. 'Cause we all enjoy the madness 'cause we know we're gonna fade away. Welcome back to Lancashire Live with me Ruth Telford and I've got the Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show guys here with me. So, Colin, you would, I mean, you are getting very excitable about what's coming to the show because you're getting animated. So, good to see he sat on his hands so he's not going to be naughty and banging the table again. Are you having things like the army coming again? Yeah, the army is certainly coming. Last year they brought a tank which did prove that our aluminium tracking would take a tank. It didn't go on there. They did, they did go on. It was very fantastic and it was very popular. The kids loved it. This year we got a jackal which is like an armoured car with a gun on top. That's coming plus a lot of other gear. We hope to have them parachuting in. How good would that be? Last year they were going to but the weather didn't allow. So, we've got our, you know, we have to cross our fingers for that and just hope that does take place. That would be wonderful because that would be, I mean, that's a site that not many people get to see in their life, is it really? You know, somebody parachuting down into the Ribble Valley. No, it's happened, we did have it before. So, a few years ago we had the Red Devils, I think it was, that came in. They're going to come in one day, but the Army, we hope they're coming this year but I wouldn't absolutely promise it. No, no, but obviously fingers crossed that will be really good. I can't believe they've gone on all of you walkways. That's incredible. It was in a way we could save the ground. Tank, yeah, yeah, amazing. Did it absolutely trash your garden? Yes. Yeah. A lot of shame. I couldn't believe it. It was, I mean, there were a lot of divots, big, big divots in your grassland. Yeah, no, we've got to pretty much what it was, probably a little bit better now, I think. Oh, well, that's good. Yeah, every cloud. Brilliant. So, Mayanna, you are in the- Lifestyle, last year. Lifestyle, yes. Yeah, yeah, which is great. Yeah. And we've got a lot of new stands this year and a lot of returning stands. They are all favourites, you know, those lovely garden sculptures that we have from recycled fridges and things like that. And if you saw that, that's usually on the outside. They're really clever, aren't they? And, yeah, some lovely tweet-pawn shows and matching hats. I think you had a little trainee on, didn't you? I loved it. As you were modelling. Me, though, were generally modelling those. Yeah, they were lovely. Oh, I loved it. Yeah. I felt really like a country gents wife, actually. Yeah, and they were lovely, really lovely pastel colours and things. Like that, and it's sort of- There'll be a few more clothing retailers there as well. Some chocolates, sort of gifty type things. Yeah. And some really nice household linen rows. It's got lovely diffusers and cushions and handmade stuff. So, some really exciting stands and really good variation of stands as well, which is what someone would like in the Lifestyle Marquis. Plus, we'll have the entertainment that we usually have, the fashion shows and music. So, it'll be a nice time to spend at the show, I think, just if you want a bit of retail therapy. Well, who doesn't? I mean, come on. It's nice as well, because I really think it's good how people have spent hours and hours making these things. And to just have them on show is amazing, isn't it? Yeah. It never meant for somebody to want to actually buy them. Yeah, a lot of people are actually buying something like that. They can talk to the maker and they really know where it comes from. And it is really nice to buy something that's handmade. So, there are a lot of stands that have made their own products. Candle round is another one from Longridge. She's got lovely little sort of air fresheners and candle wax smells. Scopes as well, she did this show. Yeah, lovely things. Really original. You can't get them anywhere else. So, that's the beauty, isn't it, of a county show as well that you can go and buy something that you can't get from somewhere else? Absolutely. And the one thing I always think is buy your presents in July, because, come September, which is when everybody's birthday in the whole wide world, isn't it? You've got them all ready. Yeah. You don't need to stress out, do you? Because you've got all the gifts there. Yeah. Did you sell enough coats last year? I did. We did. I got a stroke of luck. I was selling raincoats. For fun, weren't you? Yeah. Flipping, I couldn't believe it. They went really well, so that was good. Yeah. Like I said, I'm not going to bring them this year, because it's going to be glorious on a challenge at no point. Tea shirts and some addresses this time. Yeah. Caff to you. Yes. Well, no, brilliant. Okay. Right, we're coming back in a bit, and we will talk some more. I'm thinking food and drink next. Ooh. I think it's cos I'm hungry. 106.7. Ripple FM. I do my best, that's all I can say. We need an abbreviation, don't we? I think I'm getting a beer. I'm getting giddy. 'Cause this is my favourite bit now. We're going to talk about food and drink. So I do believe Tom is going to be there again from Wally Weinbar, which is wonderful. I do love a bit of Tom. And we've got some new people coming as well. Who's going to be there then Colin? Well, Vic, to you from you was very keen to be there. So he's doing some fantastic food at the show. Marvelous. In fact, he's next to Tom. Oh, good. So you can have a nice glass of wine and then have a... Been a nice afternoon there. Happy days. I do believe Tom is spreading himself about the wisdom. So that will be TBC. Yes, sir. Keep you all wanting to know what's going on. What else is there food wise? I have to say, I had a wonderful afternoon tea there last year. It was superb. Whoever put that together, it was incredible. Well, I think we've improved the layout. We've got two main areas where food has been and drink has been provided. And in each of them, we've purchased a quantity of tables and chairs. So there's additional seating for people to actually sit down and enjoy the food they're going to consume. I think that's a good thing because when you're walking around, all of a sudden, you're flagging, aren't you? You're hungry and you just think, "I really need to sit." I think so. Yeah, and you just do need some where, don't you? So that's good. I'm really pleased that you've done that. That's great news. And you can see the choice, can't you, when it's all done in the same area? Yeah, definitely. So I'll go on. What else? We've got afternoon teas. We've got you. We've got... We've got all sorts of, whether it be Greek food, English food, Italian food. You know, it pretty much it's there. That's good, isn't it? Really good. Love my food, can't it? Oh, that's the only thing much to my... Yeah, I really would like to. We need to stop talking about food. We don't, don't we? It's getting close to lunch. It's too close to lunch. OK, so, and drinks. Who else is there drink-wise? We've got... Bowlin Brewery have their special marquee again, and we have entertainment in there. You know, various musical acts are in there. Brilliant. That's good. So any type of beer you want, Bowlins will provide it. Nice. And is that on tap just to drink there? Or is that all sort of like, buy a keg and take it home? No, no, that's very much to drink there. Right, OK, great. That's good, isn't it? My honor. Yeah, well, it's a nice place to go after we've finished as well. We'll have to open a little bit later that she's nice. It's opening hours. What are the opening hours? Right, the show starts at 9.30. Finishes at 5.30, except on Sunday, it finishes at 5. Right, oh, that's a long day, isn't it? It is. In fact, some of the show-jumping stars before the crowd are in, we're trying to pack everything in. In fact, if I've run through some of the attractions, that might give you a bit of a feel. I'll do it quite quickly. We're vintage tractors, we're the ferret display beekeeping, and how to keep them in display and demonstration. Shire horses, Shetland Pony Grand National, which loads of people love, show-jumping. The zip wire, which we mentioned is a new thing. The light horse, we have four or five rings, which is, again, a very popular attraction. We've mentioned the lifestyle marquee, the craft marquee, the food marquee, the heavy horse competitions, including ridden heavy horses. The livestock we've already covered, the military village, there's a family dog ring where you can watch demonstrations, as well as have a family dog and just, you know, compete for a rosette. And more. About a pound or two pounds to enter. The fishing display by the river. Various singers in entertainment, borderstone, brass band, sheeps, shearing demonstration. Chloe and the super spannies are there again in the special dog utility ring. This is the girl who is disabled in a wheelchair and just shows how her dogs make her do all the various things to help her get through the day. She's been on television, she is fantastic. If ever you feel a bit depressed, speak to Chloe and you wonder why you should ever be depressed. She's such a positive person. How wonderful. Revelation to speak for, actually. Is she the girl off this morning? Is she really fatigued? Yes. And she looked really pretty good. Oh, I've seen her on telly. Yeah, she's lovely. She's lovely. Oh, can't wait to meet her. We have the tortoises, the giant tortoises. We have a bonsai display and demonstrates in the Lamb National Grand Race, that sheet racing as I called it before. Doggy rides, countryside marquee, blacksmith, bowling wild boar park here for the first time with some small animals, not with boars, so they're next to the children's village. The children's fun fair, which again, is not next to children's village, so if you don't want to get involved in spending money on a few of the fairground rides, it's tapped well away, so you have to make your way there, especially again, so families don't feel obliged to spend more than perhaps they can afford. And of course, the many electric Landrovers, so there's loads going on. Gosh, that is a lot of that. I feel that's a lot more than last year. It is, and the other thing we've done, when you enter the show, we've tried to make that much more attractive now, so as you enter on the right... Can we hang on? Yeah. Can we? Brilliant. We're going to come back and we're going to learn all about the entrance. Yeah. If that would be fine by you. Great, okay, catch you in a bit. [music] I know that this could hurt me bad. And I am going to try and say this correctly. We have Colin and Mayana here from Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show. You beat! She did it. Anyway, the reason that it's called agricultural still is because you've got thousands of animals. Yeah, which is great. And people didn't realize that, did they now? Well, I took it over with the committee about seven years ago, and apart from show jumping and showing, I don't think we had any livestock as such. Last year, I think we had 1,600, and they travel from all over the country, literally. They do. And we provide some of the very best facilities for them, even the sheep. I say even that are under markings, which is not common in shows. Yeah. How about they love it? I'm quite sure for me all of these. Well, I'm not spoken to them. I'm sure you can tell, though. I feel like you get this bag off animals, don't you? Yeah, they love it, or not going there, thank you. But yeah, they obviously love it, which is brilliant. Now then, Colin, you are very, very pleased with your new entrants. Well, every year we try and make improvements. One of the main things we've done this year is all of the aluminium roads are now named, for example. So there's all sorts of names. So when you're called away, Newbury, where it happens to be, when you're trying to direct somebody right, it's much easier. There are proper road signs that you would see in streets. That's good. OK, that's number one. The other thing that I didn't like were the entrants was quite ugly and unpleasant. So what we've done is... It is your garden garden. Well, what we've done now is when people enter now, when they go to the ticket office or the office at the entrance, it'll be under a marquee without side, so it's covered. That's to keep the sun from beating down on people as they enter. Absolutely, yeah. Because they're going to need it this year. That's it. And then when you go through there, on the left-hand side, they pick up their disability scooters or whatever. And they turn right then, usually, to go to the main part of the show. We have a beautiful stand there from banisters, nurseries, where they're last year. Now last year, they were tucked away on the far side of the show, which meant when people were buying trees or whatever, they had to drag them around the show. We put them near the entrance, but then on top of that, they very kindly now decided they're going to set up a proper garden, as you might see at the Chelsea show. Maybe not quite as ambitious, but it'll still be a proper garden, as well as demonstrating all the trees and shrubs and stuff they have for sale. And then next to that, we have bombers. They have a fantastic display of grass cutting machine, including the very latest robotics. A lot of golf courses now are installed, and in fact, I've ordered a couple for my fields as well. They're really fantastic. So the entrance should be much more attractive and inviting than before. It's the same as Kriti. It is. It is. It is. So they're going to make it up like a beautiful garden, but then sell the plants anyway, are they? Well, there'll be, obviously, the shrubs and trees, which is mainly what they're, I think, there to sell, but they will make a garden up so you get an idea of how they can be used. They may well sell them at the end of the show, I'm not sure. Really are nice. The trees, I don't know if you saw them last year, but they're really, really nice quality and unusual. Oh, that's nice, isn't it? Because sometimes you do want something just a little bit different, don't you? And if it's on your doorstep, why, wouldn't you? Or not on your doorstep if you're travelling from far and wide. Brilliant. So the entrance, is that like, do you bring your ticket or can you pay on entry? You can pay on entry. I mean, we're finding far fewer people. Most people buy their ticket beforehand. There's no question about it. It's cheaper and it's convenient, but we do sell tickets on the day, but the actual ticket off is now smaller than it used to be, because the demand is not as great on the day. Yeah. So buying tickets, it's all online. It's online, yeah. Absolutely. And where do we get that from? You can also, by the way, phone the office and actually do it over the phone, but online is easier for everybody. Yeah, it seems to be the standard these days, doesn't it really? It is. Everybody seems to be happy with that even. They expect to, don't they? Yeah, everything's organised and they're not waiting in queues. Yeah, I definitely love that. Not big on a queue. Right, we're going to come back in a little bit and we are going to talk about the entry, not the entrance, the entry and prices and everything. So if you could get your man going now, Colin, and we'll be back in a bit. Do you want to see a cup of tea? Yes, please. Okay. So where do we get our tickets from and how much are they calling? Right, you can obviously buy them on the day where you'll pay a little more. If you buy them beforehand on the Friday, in the Fridays it'll cheaper than the weekend. For a family early bird it's 35 pounds. That's for two adults, two children and children under five I think there's a free anyway. On the day itself it would cost you 45 pounds, you would save 10 pounds. On the Saturday it's 40 pounds and 50 pounds. 50 pounds on the day. Right, I get you. You lost me there for a minute. We've kept prices very low. No it's good because that's really only a tenner each isn't it even if you were working it that way. So it is good because it is excellent value and there's lots of things in there that you can do. You don't need to spend anything else you go inside if you don't choose to and yet you can still take part in a lot of activities. Especially children's activities. Yeah, which is wonderful. I love all the dogs and the Shetland Pawn is, they do it for me. I love who is so much fun. Can anybody ride on the Shetland Pawn is? No. Oh, what a shame. There are pony rides there as well. You do pay to go on the pony ride. That's all right. I just want dollar on one. It's really challenging. They're bonkers. Are they? I believe so. Just while we were discussing tickets, just to make this a little bit clear. If somebody is sobering and has a carer, then the disabled person pays for the ticket and then the carer, if they can demonstrate that they are a carer, then we'll get in free of charge with the disabled person. Oh, that is good. That's the same as last year isn't it? Pretty much. Yeah, I do like that ethic. It's wonderful. The other thing I want to know is that we haven't even spoken about is charity. I mean... Well, we've been making another probably 20,000 pounds worth of donations this year when the show is over. I mean, the whole point of the show is supposed to be a charity. And in fact, when we took it over some seven years ago, hardly any money was being paid to charity at all. And that's the whole point of the show. Of course, absolutely. So are the old local charities that you don't need to do? If you get them committed to choose a few local ones, it'll be a hospice, no doubt. They usually a food bank. Quite often it's the helicopter that goes around. They're ambless, that sort of thing. But we'll decide after the show this year. Yeah. If anybody wants to make any suggestions, then we'd be pleased to hear from them. Yeah, that's good. Yeah, please email in. That's Studio@ribbleFM. Or your email, maybe, for the show. Yeah, you wanted to know about the website. If you go online, just put Royal Anchor's show, and that will bring the website up straight away. And it's very easy to follow. Even I can manage to navigate it. I'm not sure. Right, OK, well, thank you so, so much for coming in. It's been wonderful. Is there anything else you'd like to say before you're in? I don't think so. I mean, I would say, set off in decent time. If the weather is decent, you'll have a great day either way. The car park is free. The car park is massive, yeah. It is. We've got even more of these special aluminium tracks, so hopefully it'll be even better, perhaps, than it was last year. Yeah, if you've got a four-wheel drive and it is, we're in a ticket. As long as you're not demonstrating your ability to get out of touch, which some people do with four-wheel tracks, they're a damn nuisance. You could keep your eye on the Facebook page as well, because that gives information as to, you know, what's going on and what's planned for the show. So, that's just under the Royal Lancashire Agricultural Show as well. Brilliant. That's great. And also, we will be coming live from your marquee on the Friday for my show. Yes. So, that'll be good, which we've done now for a good few years. Yes, we have, yeah, yeah. So, that should be fun. So, I'll tune in on the 20th. It'll be on the 19th. 19th. There's one and possibly another one as well. Yeah. So, if you aren't managing to go but you want to get a bit of a vibe and feel about it, then tune in to Lancashire. Live, one, two, on the 19th. But, failing that, just get yourself down there and enjoy, because it will be fun. It usually isn't, even if it's raining, it's always fun. Absolutely. Yeah, just bring a brawly. We want melt, will we? Right. Okay. Well, thank you so much for coming in, guys. It's been really wonderful to see you. I've enjoyed it. Thank you very much. Oh, you're welcome. Yeah, thank you. And, please come again next year and let us know how you went on this year and tell us how sunburned you got, because it was so, so. It was so, so hot. She's got her fingers crossed. Right.
