Mike Moore Media. I'm talking with Quentin Robertson director of Readsville Parks and Recreation. Hey Quentin, how's it going? How you doing Mike? Good morning. I know it's a busy busy time for you as always and you got the big job. Team Readsville Color Run coming up a week from tomorrow but bring us up today. What's going on in Parks and Rec? We're just actually just happy to get started again. We're getting ready to move back into the school season. So athletics and a lot of the summer events are kind of taking place right now. So again August 17th and we will be having our color run at Quotlin Park. Doors or gates will kind of open up around 10 and the question started in 11 and so we have like a little small loop through the chair wood trail and back towards the Quotlin Park there. So people did just come out and enjoy. We'll have some bounty houses, a few vendors and a couple of music for kids to kind of play around and have a good family fun day. For those who don't know, what is a color run? What do you do with this? Well it's just kind of like a little small jog or walk or do it at your own pace but there are colors don't where so much staff will be actually throwing bread, pink, yellow, different colors kind of talk for you to kind of run through. We act everyone to kind of wear all white shirts and so it kind of gets you this big party cloud of colorful dust that you get to kind of play in and have fun and run and kind of get this pot out look and feel across your uniform. But it's just a family fun event and I'm also promoting the health and wellness of the city there. So the encouraging people to get out and exercise and walk and see some of my trails that we have as well. Sure yeah all right fun event color run August 17th at Cortland Park. All right registration things going on like that bring us up to date. Oh yeah right now we have a lot of our registration that's open that is for youth divisions and adults as well. We play at the Regional Parks and Recreation Department. We have a great turnout of this event for last year or a sport that we have a lot of young ladies and it's actually co-ed too. So we're starting to get up some of the guys that come in and play volleyball too. So we see that just growing sport but then also you know we live also the football capitol here. So we know we're opening up for football as well. So flag football and contact for ball registration is available. Those divisions started as early as four years though. In addition we also doing adult flag football. So we're getting a lot of answers and adults really to come back out and learn. Show all some of those skills that they have. So those registrations are open now that everyone is available to play and participate in those activities. Okay yeah time for time for football for sure. Yes yeah. Okay what's next? Well we also got our senior center memberships are still great. We're still taking those things memberships there. They still have a few events going on. We're being go with crochet and so our team center is still grabbing. We're open Monday through Friday from 4 to 8 and we have a lot of different events and schedule plans that they got going on and they will be actual doing small events with the police department coming up and we're putting together at back-to-school drive pretty soon. We'll have some pretty good dates here moving forward but we're just excited. We're still programming them. There's the music room there. We're working on over as a team center as well with this project as well. So we encourage everyone that's 10 and older to stop by having to disappear. Okay what's the music room? What is that about? Well it's kind of what we did is take miles with a lot of kids that like to create music or be a DJ or you know a musically inclined so we have different instruments and things that they can kind of come in and kind of help create. Create that creativity and a safe environment that we harnessed. Mm-hmm. Oh that sounds good. All right. Yeah. Okay. Anything else we need to mention? What our department has now also finished some of the renovations. Our basketball court at the Parks and Recreation Department is done and completed. You should be hearing pretty soon that we'll be doing the driven cutting that we can announce that pretty soon. So some of the projects are on the way. We should be breaking ground with our tennis courts pretty soon here. And so we're excited about that. What our USTA tennis excellence program is thriving right now. We're playing on Tuesdays and Thursdays at J.C. Park from 537th or just a free program. Kids, youth, and adults are all welcome so we're excited. We feel program. We're still putting a lot of things out there for the community to participate in. So we're excited just for that as well going into the fall. Sure. Yeah. Tell us about the new tennis court. She said you be breaking ground on them them soon. We're constructing some of the tennis courts out of J.C. Park there. We know that some of those are damaged and a few cracks. So we have a strong strong strong tennis community especially in Rockingham County. And we're looking forward to make sure we can handle someone else repairs and and continue to keep up. Tennis community is driving there. It's a great conflict. And so and tennis is a bonus along with the softball along with the splash pad that we have in the area and also the addition of the typical ball courts as well. So we want to make sure that we keep this complex up and running and making some of the great updates that community needs for that. Yeah. It's exciting to see tennis just in the last three or four or five years of how it's continuing to grow and rebuild here in Rockingham County, isn't it? Yeah, that's very great. We have a great relationship with the county and the USDA and some of the tennis excellent programs. So you know, we want to shine a light on those that make our programs as wonderful as they are. Okay. Splash pad open now still a little bit longer, I guess? Yes, yes. Splash pad is open to September 2nd Labor Day. Again, we're open seven days a week. Please stop by. We've been extremely busy with birthday parties and rentals. So it's been a great hit and a great addition to the city. Kids are really enjoying it. Funny we go around the acts over the kids all the time. What are you enjoying? They all say, hey, we just want to see the bucket drop. The bucket drop? Oh, yeah. The bucket drop. Yeah. Okay. Time. It's all the timing thing. Wait for it. Yeah. Wait for it. Yeah. Okay. Well, we've had a lot of rain here with Tropical Storm Debbie. So what's that doing to to the lakes and everything? Everything okay out there? Yeah, everything's fine. We didn't have much mini trees fall, but you know, we definitely want to check all the trails and the campgrounds and make sure that everything is still accommodating to the visitors of the campground there. And that's a good thing. We have a great team of maintenance guys and ranges that go around and make sure everything is clean. And if we do have any of those accidents, those things, we didn't report it and make sure that we keep the verification and the cleanliness of the park up to park. Sure. Okay. That's great. Well, anything else you need to mention, Quentin? Well, that's all Mike. I appreciate the giving up the call. Give me my updates. And we're looking forward to kind of report some new things actually given their future as well. Oh, that's exciting. Okay, a little, a little tease for us there. Okay.
