And I'm going to get into some very particular things because a lot of people talk about the Houston ship channel. We all know it's truly the lifeblood in so many ways of the greater Houston area. And so many people are involved in the business, but they don't know a lot of the important things that the port Houston can do, but set us up with what your title is over there and what you're doing. Well, hello there, John, I mean, also figgy and we get to see you both. And so thank you again for having us back again this year. It's opportunities like this that are so important to us and we love to share the story and of the importance of the Houston ship channel in Port Houston. I'm Lisa Ashley Daniels and I'm director of public relations for Port Houston. All right. And that I wanted to make very clear because I think as long as I've lived in this city, as long as some of our listeners on all our family of stations that I mentioned have lived here and we know the importance of it. It's mind blowing and sort of, you know, it's so impressive. The numbers that come through the Houston ship channel, Port Houston, 52 miles long, federally dredged a long time ago, updated numerous times, growing expansive. What are some of those numbers that really just sort of people need to kind of take a step back and realize, all right, this is something that we need to care about and we'll get to it in a little bit, they can actually go out there and get a firsthand experience as well. I can't wait to tell you about that opportunity, very proud of that. But first, let me just share that you touched on it, the Houston ship channel. A lot of people don't really know that it is a not a natural deep water port. It is actually dredged 52 miles from just shy of downtown all the way into Galveston Bay. That is actually wedged in through Buffalo Bayou tributaries have just created a basically a highway for vessels and ships to be able to access and come into the Houston area. Yeah. And so we're really, that's really important to note, 440 billion dollars in Texas economic activity, more than 905 billion dollars in US economic impact. Give us a thumbnail sketch of some of the things that people, we see it. We drive over, drive over the bridges. We know it's awesome. We know it keeps us going here in Houston in so many ways. But do we know all the things really, and obviously you can't list them all, but some of the big impact industries and things that are happening along the ship channel. Yes. As a matter of fact, we're very proud again. There are more than 200 private and eight public facilities that align the 52 mile loan channel. And just recently, as in just a couple of months ago, the US Army Corps of Engineers just released a report to say that we were the number one ranked waterway in all of the United States. And that means that we actually have more, we have about 300 million volumes of cargo that comes through the Houston ship channel. And our number one ranking is significant because there is a 67 million ton gap, a volume between us and the second largest port and that's pretty significant. We have more than 8,000 ships to come through and more than 200,000 barge moves on the channel every day. And I want to go back to the fact that this is not a natural deep water port. And our port is busier than the ports of Los Angeles Long Beach and New York, New Jersey combined. That's crazy. That's absolutely crazy. And even someone like me and our listeners know if you especially if you listen on Sports Radio 610, I am on that water all the time. I'm on the water all the time. I drive by it on my boat, I go fishing and all that and it doesn't really quite hit you. And another thing that I think is important is the partnerships that you have with the community. And the way the industry and the community collaborate on so many things, a small business support, education, what are some of those other things that is the partnership. And then we'll get into the good stuff here in just a second. Well, you know, doing the amount of business that we do, the amount of activity, it's really important. I'm proud of that being the representing the eight public terminals. We're the advocate for the channel. We advocate on the greater interests of the industry and also the community. And so we see ourselves as that liaison. So we're very proud of the relationship that we have with our industry and also the community to make sure that we hear and have an understanding of the interests of everyone so that we can continue to make sure and ensure that the youth and ship channel remains the vital part of the community that it is. Yeah. And I know a lot of people, I know when my children are younger and we would be driving over one of the bridges or going by the ship channel and seeing it, we would often say, wouldn't it be cool if we could get down there and kind of get a feel for things. And you have some great engagement and outreach things that are going on, maritime education, workforce opportunities. But this is the one that captured my eye that we should probably share with our listeners, free public boat tours of the channel aboard the Marine vessel, Sam Houston, give us a little more information on that. Yes, John, we are so proud of this for more than 60 years now, Port Houston has provided a free public boat tour, which is from 90 minute round trip tour of the waterway on the upper channel, down in Galveston, closer to downtown. And so we have been providing this round trip view of the waterway and we offer it Tuesdays through Saturdays. We like to say it's a best kept secret, but actually it is pretty, the only thing you need to have or the only thing that you need to do is make reservations to access it. And I have to tell you, the boat gets pretty full because our school groups, our senior citizens, and you can all kinds of even other families. What is it in tell in terms of the tour 90 minutes, 90 minutes, what you do is you get a chance to see the waterway first up close and personal, you see all of the ships, you see the activities. One of the things that I didn't say you did ask me about what will you see? The public terminals are handle the container cargo and the container cargo is the type of products that you use and see every day. Our clothes, furniture, just in a medical supplies, yeah, vehicles. Now break ball, that is one of our we also handle that as well and that's the things that can't be put into a container. And so we've got vehicles such as tractor equipment and steel and timber and things that are building materials. So again, while you don't see the, you know, you can't touch the retail outlets such as Wal-Mart and Target or rooms to go, but obviously building materials that we're like building that we're in, we're, we see and touch every day and don't even realize. It did come through, it did come through the port, I can guarantee you that. Blow me away if I were in your position. Like you're just looking around like, yeah, that, that, that, that. Everything you can see and touch literally comes through. If you think about it, most of the major cities are along the coast because that speaks to trade. And so that's how cities are developed. In fact, that's one of the things that we say Houston is the town that built the port, that built the city. Right. That's a great way to put it. Matter of fact, the supply chain pandemic highlighted illuminated the supply chain industry and how important ports are. And one of the things that we're most proud of is that just like more than 100 years ago when they dredged this channel 15 to miles in from Houston to the Galveston Bay. Our leaders saw the benefit of keeping the ship channel loten and dredge as well as expanding to be able to accommodate the constant growth or the continual growth that we're seeing. And in fact, so then when we had the influx of cargo during the pandemic, we were able to actually absorb and handle the increased cargo that we received because we had already looked ahead. And so that's the beautiful thing about what we do and being a part of something that's bigger than you is that we're always looking ahead.
