[MUSIC] >> Yo, what's bap in sports fans? It's Aaron and Estefan, you're for a, a patron episode. >> God, I'm not, I'm not resetting, we're gonna get that. >> No, keep it going. >> Yeah, we're gonna keep it rolling. >> It's authentic, this is the real shit. >> Yeah, this is raw, unedited. >> I mean, I'm wearing glasses, you know, like we're a bit different today, you know? >> It's probably not good to like, brag about being an unedited podcast. And I guess it will be like slightly edited, you never know. >> Sure, uncut and raw. >> That bit is not- >> Oh, that'll stand. >> Yeah, I hate this team live on tape. >> We did a mailbag episode of Blockpart yesterday, and one of the questions was like, what would be the worst potential guest mix up? Like if you, if you were John, like booked a guest for one of your shows, and then they ended up having to do another show, and I said, DB on, I hate this team. Even though we were just, and I was like, well, we just end up talking about fast food freaks the whole time, but like, I'm just imagining trying to get DB to talk hockey at all. >> Well, he's heard me and Michael talk about it on the Chappo streams enough, so. >> Okay, so he may have, and I know like, you know, he's been to a couple of Preds games for YKS, so. >> Yeah, we talked about going to the Preds games on YKS with him, so. >> Yeah, yeah, that's right. Yeah, so he could, maybe he could fake it, but I would love to see that. That would be great. Maybe he should get DB on anyway, just to talk about like, outlaw or whatever. >> Let's make it happen. >> We should. >> What, what's he doing? >> I mean, he's sitting around, I think he's got some free time right now. JF just had a kid. So. >> I, speaking of which, yeah, I wanted to follow up on something from like a month ago. Was Jesse able, how many nuggets was he able to eat? >> He did eat the, he ate 50 nuggets in like 20, in like 20 minutes, like it was no problem at all. >> Did he hate it? Or was it like fine? >> He felt fine. I think he was a little worried about that there was no issue with it whatsoever. But I ate, I think 20 something, but I was also eating the Popeyes ones, which are bigger and have like more batter. So the chat kind of, the chat decided they're really good. The chat decided that was equivalent to like 35 Wendy's nuggets, which for me, I'm not a big eater. I was like, I was pretty impressed with myself. And they're so good. The Popeyes nuggets are so good. >> The Wendy's nuggets are cheap though. >> They're cheap. They're smaller. I feel like they're just easier to eat. They're generally more like uniform, I think as well. Like that was the thing of the Popeyes nuggets is that you'll get ones that have like a big chunk of batter on them or like a different shape. >> They feel like they're more made from the heart, you know? >> For sure. >> So there is some variants there. >> Yeah. But JF dominated it. It just was not even close. Like he just, he made it look really easy. I was legitimately impressed. >> Yeah. >> So before we get into the big list today, if you're listening to this episode on Spotify or Apple or whatever, because we're going to be doing a new thing now that we're on the hockey podcast network. And we'll be releasing like a little bit longer Patreon previews. So you can get something out of it because it's going to be like a 20 minute preview. But if you want a full episode, patreon.com/IHateThisTeam, and if you're listening to it on there, thank you. >> This is a great episode to sign up for by the way, because I feel like we haven't done one of these for a while, or like, I mean, I don't know if we've done like a full episode like this. >> Nothing's like explicitly like this. This is like peak off-season content. So we're going to be doing so fun to put together. I think we have to do this for other, we got to do more list episodes like this. >> Totally. >> Because it was so much fun to put this. I mean, it was depressing, but it was very fun to put that. >> Yeah. There was like a gallows humor to it for me. So we're doing top 10 saddest Canucks moments. And the rules that we have for this are, one, they have to have been sad for us personally so. >> We had to have experienced them. >> Yeah. I was alive in 1994, but I wasn't perceiving hockey as it were. >> I was five years old. I don't remember it at all. I really only started following the Canucks in like '98, '99-ish. >> '96 was the year for me, which way worse years for us to get into the Canucks. >> Oh my God. >> But yeah, like at that time, I was more into like power rangers, things of that nature. >> And then obviously like '82 and anything like that. >> I mean, yeah. >> No, no regulation. >> Like clearly, like, you know, losing the lottery spin for Gilbert Perot, like, you know, if you're context free, if you're just stepping back and looking at their entire history, that's clearly on the list, but we weren't alive for it. >> Yeah. >> So all my stuff is like post like '99, 2000. >> I just thought of another honorable mention. >> And then the other thing, too, is we didn't want to include any like tragedies. So. >> Yeah. >> Like Rick Ripley. >> Rick Ripley. >> Yeah, obviously those are very sad, but we're trying to keep it to on ice stuff and like off ice stuff that was like a trade or. >> Yeah. It's like, well, how do you compare like the tragic passing of a young man to take like shade- >> Obviously. >> Letting in a puck from Sutterize. >> Exactly. >> It's got kind of apples to oranges and in poor taste. >> Yeah. >> So we're not going to do that. >> Those are off the list. >> Yeah. >> Did you want to start because you have a lot of honorable mentions, so. >> I do have a lot of honorable mentions, yeah. >> Let's go. >> Should we do the honorable mentions first? >> Let's start the honorable mentions first. And then like if we have an honorable mention on our list, we can say I'll skip it, get to that later. >> Sure. Well, obviously we're avoiding Luke Pardon stuff. So I will just say honorable mention, not drafting copotar, like Luke Pardon was going to be a really good player. But copotar fell to us, was like obviously the right pick. >> Yeah. >> Would it change things for us? I think probably they would have won in 2011 if they had copotar. >> I do remember that and I do remember being bummed about it. >> Yeah. >> But also as like a teenager that was just reading HF boards. >> Sure. >> I like trusted it and I felt like it was probably the back. But I was also easily swayed by like pro Canucks propaganda about it. And then especially like when Boredon popped off at the WJC in Vancouver, like I started to come around on it so there wasn't like a ton of immediate sadness there. I was like, well, yeah, that sucks, but I'm sure it was guys good too. And he's Canadian and a defenseman. >> Yeah. I was bummed at the time and then obviously, you know, I think if they have copotar they probably do win a cup. >> Yeah. >> I want to add it on the honorable mention list. >> But I mean, granted if like Boredon blossomed into the player that he looked like they would have also probably had a way better chance, right? >> Yeah. >> Like he could have been latang level. So good for us for saying we weren't going to bring that up. >> Well, yeah, no, I know, but I wanted to focus on the copotar part. >> I understand. The draft pick was at the time controversial as well. >> Yeah. >> Just like the, the, the, the Corvette pick over Nachiskin, Nachiskin was, so I think similarly. It took a weird one because it, people have flip-flopped on it since obviously where, I mean, yeah, anyway, there's, we don't have to go into that. But next round will mention, I just put various draft lottery losses when they were really bad. Like those all sucked. But then obviously some of them kind of worked out anyway. So. >> So for me here, I have Bored lottery just because it's like fresh in my mind as an honorable mention. And like it's an honorable mention because like my hopes were like a little bit up, but it was more so that Chicago actually winning it above everybody else and the Canucks also not winning the lottery. But the Canucks also didn't do anything to give themselves better odds. So that was like more of a gradual drawn out anger and sadness. >> Yeah. >> But I mean, it brought in talking, which means this season. So maybe in hindsight, is it isn't the worst thing in the world though. I'd probably prefer that they have Mitch Koff now and, and still had talking, you know. >> For sure. >> Then I had the sedines probably retiring earlier than they may be needed to because of how bad the team was was managed. >> Yeah, that's pretty sad. >> That was a bummer. Obviously it resulted in like one of the coolest moments in Canucks history. So with their final home game, which was like incredible. >> Yeah. >> But I think just it just I think they probably could have played another year. I mean, they were definitely slowing down, but it also just kind of felt like they were like, man, this fucking sucks. Give me out of here. >> Yeah. >> And it just felt like it that was really bad. Do you have any other honorable mentions? >> Yeah, I have some very specific ones. >> Okay. >> So the one that used to be on our old theme music, game six in 2010 and eight Chicago, the five one loss and the specific moment in that game that really was the dagger to the heart was Buffalo and sealing it up in the third period to make it five one 30 seconds after Kane had scored. >> Yeah. >> I just remember that one hitting really, really hard. >> Yeah. >> And I mean, the Canucks won game one of that series and I think they actually won that game five one to open up that series. And then they just lost three God damn straight games, including that one, which was like a real dagger to the heart. >> Yeah. >> Oh, wait. So that was game six. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> And then also game four of that series, which wasn't the seven on go game. But they did let in seven goals. >> Yeah. >> So in that game, if you recall, Tave scored a hat trick. >> Yeah. >> Chicago had four power play goals to the Canucks to pedal these against Vancouver that game were called eight four. And this in the first period included back to back cross checking calls against Shane O'Brien within like less than 10 minutes of each other. I think it was seven minutes. >> That's the memories for me. >> Yeah. And then in the second period, they called back-to-back penalties against Daniel Sedine two and a half minutes apart. So the first one was an interference call and the second one was a cross checking call. And I like I just remembered like this series and I was this jarred so many fucking memories coming back to me like I believe the cross checking call on Daniel Sedine. It was like after a power play goal had been scored. And this was like their bounce back and it was like a bullshit cross check. But that sounds right. >> Just just looking at these box scores and how the games played out was just I think I've pushed out a lot of specific. I will say some of my some of my top 10 moments are more just general like losing that series. >> Totally. Yeah. >> But like, yeah, I mean, we'll we'll come back to. >> I wanted to get like more specific moments and just jarred my memory so there's like more to talk about with it. And then by doing that, it just opened up the floodgates. Like, yeah, I remember, of course, hating Chicago a lot, but yeah, seeing their stewing about all these epic fucking losses, like I do have the seven on go game, like down on my list and just the context around all of that is so much more painful. >> It's doctor man. >> Oh, Stefan, you know, the beautiful thing about being a sports fan, there's only like two days, the whole year without a game to got with so much happening and so much action that makes just about every day game day at Draft King Sportsbook. It's super easy for first timers to get started. Try betting on something simple, like picking a team to win. Go to Draft King Sportsbook app, select your team and place your first bet. So that's like a type of hockey. >> If you want to watch it. >> Is take Canada playing? >> No, they're probably not good enough. >> No, probably not. So this is like two AM or between two and five AM, Mountain Time. So it's I guess one AM and four AM Pacific. >> Stand up late. >> Yeah, so you got Belgium, China, Belgium's favorites here, minus 160 China plus two to 85 draws plus 320. The most juiced up matchup is Australia versus South Africa. So Australia is the minus 1600 favorites, South Africa plus 1100. So I guess South Africa must not be very good. You also got Germany minus 500 to Japan plus 650 and Great Britain is minus 110 to Spain's plus 170 for a win. Yeah, if you're new to DraftKings, you got to check this out. The crown is yours. >> It is. >> No, this one was like a hard, this probably could have made the top 10, but the more hit on Nazland. >> Yeah. >> Was like obviously cost a lot of bad shit to happen. >> Did the Bertuzzi thing make your list at all? >> I mean, I think I it's kind of I have that in honorable mentions because like obviously that's like really sad and fucked up and everything. But like I don't, yeah, there's other stuff that I was matter or sadder about, I think. But that whole situation is an honorable man. >> As like a 14 year old, I I thought it was cool. I thought more deserved it, right? So like at in the moment, I was like, oh, this rocks, I very specifically remember that game was a blowout as well. Colorado was beating was beating our asses or something, some shit like that. And so I was like, fuck it, I'm going to go on the computer instead and post about the Canucks. >> Yeah. >> And I think like in an intermission and I was like still going to watch it or whatever. And my mom started like screaming at me to come watch the TV because we were like watching the games together. And I went up and and saw the the punch and I'm like, yeah, this rocks for two is a man. >> With the benefit of hindsight pretty, probably probably a rare miss from 14 year old me, but yeah, yeah. Then I also have the Malhotra eye injury. >> Yeah, that was bad. >> The cross checking penalty on Daniel Sedine against San Jose in overtime, 2013. >> Oh, yeah. >> The just I mean, that that's honorable mention because like I just that was like the beginning of the end for me, like caring about the team for a while, like I was so exhausted. >> Yeah. >> But that was a bummer of a call. >> The 2012 and 2013 playoff series against L.A. and Chicago against L.A. and San Jose they probably should have been honorable mentions for me as well because I was really sad. I remember watching either that San Jose game or the game that the game five they lost against L.A. in a Boston pizza alone because they didn't have cable at the time like in a Canucks jersey sitting at the bar. >> Brutal. >> Yeah. >> Real bad. >> I have an extraordinary on Bashir. I barely remember that, but I mean, I do remember it and I remember it being like kind of scary. >> Yeah. >> As a kid, you know. >> Great. >> Like saying as a kid and thinking that's fucked up and you got a you got a punish McSorley for that. >> Yeah. And then I mean, I've got some 2011 stuff on here that like probably could have made the top 10, but obviously I mentioned 2011 in the top 10. The Ham Hughes injury in game two, Aaron Rome hit, the angle city and getting like speed bagged all that shit. I mean, that's, you know, Tim Thomas hitting one of this is like that was brutal. >> Yeah. >> That we'll get to 2011 later though, Louis Erickson signing, bending not trading Ham Hughes and verbata at the deadline was so fun. >> They ran out of time. >> Oh my God, this barely missed the top 10 as well, but because this was kind of the moment where you're like, oh my God, we're so fucked. Speas and Dorset re-signing. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> Oh, yeah. >> That was in the top 10 for me for a while and then it got pushed out. But that fucking, that was the moment where I was like, I didn't, I had already lost hope for bending, but that was the moment where I was like, oh my God, we're completely fucked. He's a total moron. >> Yeah. >> And that was year one of having him. >> I was trying to think of ones that were more roster based because when Louis Erickson happens, I knew it was bad money and I knew it probably wouldn't age well. >> Yeah. >> But I still remember Louis Erickson being like the league's most underrated player when he played in Dallas. >> Yeah. >> I knew they all over Ericman Larson trade as well because when the OEL trade happened, that was what my most checked out and I'm like, oh, OEL, most underrated player in the league. Like I know it hasn't been as good recently in fantasy hockey, which I still played despite being checked out, but it did like perk my ears up and I was happy to get like out from Erickson and even though clearly like the trade was bad at the time, right? I was at least like, okay, maybe this is a team. I can watch now, maybe they're going to score a bunch of goals and like play entertaining hockey and I don't have to watch. >> Yeah. >> You know, Antoine Marcell and Louis Erickson, et cetera. >> Yeah. >> Like there's the sea of grandlands isn't as deep and like maybe I can get behind it because hey, they did just have this like playoff bubble run that was exciting and. >> Yeah. For sure. I also have the Brandon press experience. >> Oh, yeah. Most hated Canucks of all time to suck to watch the good Branson, the good Branson trade was a huge bummer. Just more more nails in the coffin really of like God, this is just we're we're so completely fucked. I have Hudson for Cassian that made my list. >> Yeah. At the time I was like, man, this is a bummer. We're so excited for Hudson. And then obviously, you know, he he fell apart for various reasons, not his own fault necessarily, but it was just like, we were so excited to have a young kid on the team. He had done so well for world juniors. We can get into that. >> Yeah, sure. >> And yours on the list. Nazlin breaking his leg. >> Yeah. >> I've got that on there. And then yeah, I think that's pretty much it for us. >> I was a bit young for the Nazlin breaking his leg. That was like before I restarted my Canucks fan experience as a kid. I was more into wrestling at that point. And it was Canada and the Olympics that made me like want to pay attention again. And that was the year that they went out against the red wings and round one. And the Colorado's the year before that was the. >> This was Colorado, I think, because it was 2001 is when he got the injury. >> Yeah. >> O2 was O2 was the red wings. >> Right. But the Olympics were an O2. >> Oh, sorry. The Olympics. >> Yeah. >> So that's when I was like, I got to start watching hockey on TV again. >> Yes. Yeah. >> Because like the kind of the the the quagmire that they were stuck in post Messier it like it seemed almost as long as the bending era just because my life was shorter at that point. So there was like, yeah, two years or I didn't watch the Canucks, but that was like 20% of my life. I'm like a quarter of it that I remembered at that point. So. >> Yeah. So that's my those are all my honorable mentions. I'm sure maybe we'll think of more as we go through the episode, but I'm I'm ready for my top 10 year. >> All right. So I'm gonna do my number 10 first just because you have so many honorable mentions. >> Yeah. Go ahead. >> Game 10 is very recent game or more sorry game 10 moment 10 is very recent. It's game six against the Oilers. Yeah. So they were that whole thing makes my honorable mention list I would say probably just because it was it felt like playing with house money for me. Yeah. I thought about putting another there was some recency bias here, but I did want to have something that was somewhat recent here as well. Yeah. So, I mean, we all remember game five the Canucks played like perfect Canucks hockey were up three two in the series had two chance to win and defeat the great Satan. The game's tied after one and it just completely slips away and it was very gradual to so they go up to one. You're like, okay, this blue shard scores makes the three one. Well, I've seen this Canucks team come back before I've seen him come back against Edmonton and then for one five one of Andrew Kane and goal and like I was watching it like with the with the in-laws instead of like watching it home where I could stew. So the fact that I, I like, I was being a pouty baby and was like more embarrassed about it. Also made it personally sadder for me, but I think game six hurt me more than game seven this year because after that game, I was like, all right, they probably have been just too fucking good. Like a McDavid piece of shit. So that makes the very bottom of my list. Wow. Okay. So my number 10 also pretty recent and it's just the whole Bruce Boudreau thing the way that was handled. Oh, yeah. That was such a bummer, man. Like I know there's reasons for it from Rutherford and it all kind of came down to Aqualini and it seemed like it was sort of Rutherford trying to like rest back control and like also kind of in the long run it worked out for them. But at the time it was such a bummer and it made me hate the team so much and they just treated him so bad. And I felt so like that last game that we were at where he's like, he's on the bench. It was like, man, that's that sucks. We were doing the Bruce there. It is chant as he was like, very, very bad look like it was a bad look. It was just sad. I mean, I, again, it worked out in the end. So that's why it's a number 10 on the list. But I had to put it on. It worked out really well. It worked out really well. So if you look at it that way, it shouldn't even be on the list. But at the time it was such a bummer, man, because he's just like such a sweetheart. So yeah, that's, that's my number 10. Okay. Mine for me is the Cody Hodgson trade. Okay. So yeah. I remember the, I remember where I was the moment it happened in the library at university studying for a test. Yeah. I was at home on a split shift about to go back to the gym and wait. Or maybe I was at the gym and I saw it on the TSN ticker on like one of the gym TVs. And then I like immediately had to go train a client and I was like, so viscerally upset about it. Yeah. So much emotional weight into Cody Hodgson and like Cody Hodgson being good. Because I mean, he was the, wait, not, no, yeah, where did the guys get that pick from it? Like, did he just pan out? The Cody Hodgson. Yeah. That was in the, that was in 2000, I think they just sucked that year. I'm pretty sure. Let me see. Cody Hodgson. Uh, cause he was drafted like nine to 10th overall by the 10th overall into the eight. And I think the conocs just, the conocs just sucked that year. Cause that was the year they missed the, that was the year known as got fired, right? Because it was, cause oh, six, oh seven was longest first year. Yeah. And then they missed the playoffs and oh, seven, oh eight, yes, and then Gillis got brought in. Yeah. But like with, with Hodgson is like, once again, his world junior pedigree, cause he captain that world junior's team, correct? They're pretty good. Too far as, but, but he had a, he popped off. Yeah. It's such an insane 12 goals and seven games and I'm sorry that was at the U 18s. It was a 16 points and six games in 2009 and so like, because we just never had prospects like that. Yeah. Like this is the next Trevor Linden man. I was like, I need to get a Brampton battalions, Cody Hodgson, Jersey. That'd be so cool. Yeah. Obviously he scored that, that bag and goal in game eight in 2012, I guess, or maybe it was 2011. No, I think it was in January, right? Yeah. Yeah. So it would have been like 2012 and I, I know looking back on it that he was getting very sheltered minutes and they were kind of showcasing him and obviously his career didn't, like after the trade, Zach Cassian had a better career, you know, so I just remember the exact moment and being so bummed out. Yeah. That moment itself was like, why? What are you like trying to convey yourself? And it was just, yeah. Yeah. Like, and I mean, a lot of it was like the Canucks have to get harder to play against look up beat up against Boston that they were, but I think that the trades kind of emblematic of everything that had like after that series, right? The Canucks just kind of got progressively shittier because they were dealing with the demons of that series, right? And that was just like one of those types of moves, uh, which bummed me out majorly. Yeah. Yeah. That's a good one. That's a very good one. I mean, it's a bad one, but it's, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [MUSIC] [SCREAMS]
