Actual Play starts 6:53

This D&D 5th edition adventure, Heart of Flames, was written and run by your DM Mike. And now please enjoy episode 253 titled "Really Good Death Rattle". Actual play begins 6 minutes 51 seconds. First off we'll do the feedback and I'm going to start with an apology. We missed an episode. We missed an episode. Yeah, I didn't release one this week or last week. And the reason I didn't release is 14 hour days at work, refinancing the house and upcoming holidays. So, also known as real life. Sometimes the tricky thing. You should have saved some of those excuses for it. Just issue one maybe, just a 14 hour work day. It works. Good. And it sucked. Yeah. Big time. We're putting a new computer system in so they have a hard freeze on a day, they're upgrading to a new one. Like, we have to stop for two weeks leading into it so that we know the system's stable, so nothing changes. So, naturally we try to jam all the changes and right up to the deadline. So, that's what that's about. Thanks, perfect. Anyways, on to the feedback which is certainly more exciting than that particular conversation. From kotmpodcast.com, Matthew G., also known as Zenith Star, posted under damn the alphabet. Sounds like you guys need to make the annual supply of item and see your next Patreon stretch go with all the sicknesses that are going around in your group. They're really not done and it's been a month and a half. Well, for Mike, Michael, it's been three, six months. Since January, so 11 months. It is, seriously. But Matthew continues, "I did like the taste of more Dresden, though I can't wait to hear how your team of dwarfs fare. I've personally been running a secret cats' fait game with Mike Grig. I don't know what... They're all cats. Cats the play. I've personally been running a secret of cats' fait game. Secret of cats. Secret of cats. I'm not sure what that is. I don't know what that is, but it's not what I thought it was. Things like what cats do when the lights go off and you go back for the night? Yeah, there is a... I couldn't believe that. I played it at the con. It wasn't fait though, was it? No. It was a start, it was a start-up kickstarter. Trying really. Laser cats. Laser kittens. Laser kittens. Yeah, that's right. It might be different. It was very silly. It was very silly. It was very silly. Not as silly as lasers and feelings. No. But anyways. I don't know. I don't know, because I didn't play. To continue, "Secrets of Cats' fait game with my group and brought up your Tap That aspect from Dresden, we decided that it should be on a t-shirt with fudge dice falling on the plus symbols instead of keys. Tap that aspect." Became a catchphrase around the table that night. That could work. Good? It is catchy too. Anyways, keep up the good work nights. He posted later on to the exact same one. The aggression I've said. Same episode. And said, "By the way, I meant to recommend this actual play podcast to your listeners, Gamers Table by Openly Gamer Theatre." I pretty sure I've mentioned it before. It's one that I listen to routinely. It's a good... You remember? Good podcast. They have a fantastic podcast that highly dramatized. If the nights were on audiobook read with some sound effects and musical accompaniment, OGT is a fully dramatized audiobook. This doesn't make them better, just a different feel. Wasn't this almost consulting? No. They're good. They do very good AP. I've listened to them. Currently they are running Shadowrun, but I really enjoy their Conan adventure run using Savage World Deluxe. Sounds like a good mantra. So thank you, Matthew, aka Zenith Star. Yes, we appreciate the feedback. And I agree. That is first time, I think. As far as I know, I think so. Welcome to the podcast. But I would definitely say that I for one agree that the Gamers Table is a really good podcast. They do actual play, but it's not all the time. Their weekly podcast is more just RPG subjects. So I'm guessing by fully dramatized, he means they do voices and act. I believe in... Like a radio play? That's my version of... I know for a fact, I was acting there. I know for a fact in their Shadowrun adventure that they had other podcasters playing parts. So Chris from Miss Directed Mark was playing a character. They actually... What'd they do? They call you up off your part. They did not. Checked. They flew him in. But so it wasn't, there's not a lot of voice acting because it's to be fully dramatized. No, they were absolutely right. I think they splice in part of their actual play, but then they do the NPC parts by other people. I think the roster for the one episode was like 20 people. Oh, wow. So I know they got... I just like a radio play. I just like a radio play. Send me a recording of you saying this type of thing. Yes. So do the actual play. And GM says these are the parts that I've said, write them down, something that I wouldn't believe that. Excellent. That's got to be fun to edit. Yeah. I think it actually would be. And then I think more interesting. We have one additional thing. It's the iTunes review. Alright. From Shakespeare Potato. I know that guy has one talented fucking potato. It was five stars. And the title was, if only there were more stars to give. These guys hooked me on APs. Unfortunately there are no other AP podcasts that match this particular combination of quality, personal chemistry, and general fun. Top quality all around. Wow. So thank you, Mr. Potato. Shakespeare's potato. Shakespeare Potato. Shakespeare's potato. Is it like a passphrase? It is Shakespeare's potato or...? I believe it's just Shakespeare. Potato. Potato. Like I said, it's one word. It's one word. Good data. With that, we will go on to the adventure. We just want to thank all our patrons listening. We actually had a picture posted of one of the November person got their t-shirt. Oh, yes. That's right. Steve, right? Yes. Nice selection. Eli. Yeah. And then the December shirt, hopefully they'll receive it before Christmas because Christmas is getting really close. But with that, we will go on to the D&D 5th edition heart of flame. This is your dungeon master, Mike, doing the heart of flame campaign. Starting on my right is... I'm Michael playing Vantesh Bodeck, a health dwarf cleric, combat veteran, and member of the Roome Hammer Clan. Bob playing Old Gillig, a folk hero, and Ranger of Torm. I am Jim playing Dayton of the Roome Hammer Clan before a fighter, a mountain dwarf with a big hammer. I'm Tom playing Dally, level three, steampunk sorcerer, and tinkererer. And Scott playing Dane Roome Hammer, third level paladin of Torm, Waffle Good, and Sion of the Roome Hammer Clan. John playing Kirth, a illusionist and general nerd of all. Thomas playing Barrow Iron-Hoth, fourth level fighter, and Dragon Rider. And we're going to start where Thomas is riding on the blinded wyvern, and we're going to see if he manages to make it into the harness or saddle, or does he fall to a pumping landing in the courtyard? Like a second meet. Daff. Next to the other second meet in the courtyard. If you do fall land on him. That's fun. Yeah. Prankle. Prankle. I'm going to fall. I'm going to fall. What could I roll up? Come on. And that's the one. Yeah. I rolled 17 twice. Mm hmm. What's the total then? Let's see. Plus strength, plus training in athletics, total of plus six. All right. That gets it all to die four because this is the last thing. This is the last thing. Doesn't matter, does it? No. I made it. It was a hard thing to do, and you were able to execute that. So you are now flying over and past the courtyard. You are semi-secured into the dragon's harness here in the saddle, and you haven't buckled yourself in or stuff like that. And I don't know if you want to. I don't know if the action is left to. And you are done. So we are at the top of the order, and that's when you see crawling over the edge of the plateau there, now do you smell that just that putrid stench of decay and rot and just really just an ugly, ugly, horrible stench? But you also hear the sound of scrabbling rock and shifting dirt and maybe even the groans and moans, and you see what appear to be dwarves, actually, coming up over the edge of the plateau. How many? It does a quick search, and even though it's hard to count the numbers in the miss, you see at least a score of maybe twice as much. 20 to 40? Oh, I'm sorry. It doesn't. It doesn't. It doesn't have more. Okay. Coming up over the edge of the plateau. They look like all pasty and undead. They're shambling. They are shambling going. Moaning. Do not look healthy. And they have missed their darkness. You see it doesn't immediately, but you suspect there are more. They're clambering up the sides. Right. You are still hearing the flapping of wings other than the wyvern that is now flying overhead and... Other than? Yeah, either it's the wyvern that is just with barrow on its back, heading towards the mountain side. And then you also hear the sounds of other things in flight around you. I had described also that the air was flashing light and electricity of chaos, magic just kind of... In the past we've seen... Yeah. War, Buryout. This is, we're seeing it again. Yeah. It seems to be... Are we seeing it again? Or is it just Dally seeing it again? Before it was just Dally and Kirth who were seeing it, but now I think everyone is aware of it. Okay. Is it in the sky? It's in the sky. Okay. It's not coming from over the plateau. It's not coming from over, but it's... I'm talking about the entire area, like there seems to be like a, almost like a gathering storm if you will, where you're starting to see like the lightning flashes of color. The air is charged. Yeah. But it might affect someone who, I don't know, has an affinity for chaos, magic. I got my chaos dice ready. And the person in the courtyard that you knocked off the wyvern does not move. I mean literally does not move. It's not moving. He's paralyzed. He could not move if he could move. So breathe. You still see movement. I'm curious. Well he's wrapped up tight in your core. Is he crashing around or is he dead? No. He's paralyzed and he is immobile. I guess you could do, try to do a perception check if you want to like scout him out really quick, whoever is. Or you could just stab him. I don't stab people. Well, if he is still alive, he gets the savings through each turn. Right. Is he inside or outside the wall? He's inside. He's inside. He's still bound. He's inside. Yeah he fell off this. Oh yeah. I nevermind. I thought you thought more. Okay. Okay. So the wyvern, Thras is just head around and then Barrow, it suddenly bangs hard up. As if it sees that it's about to plow into the structure of one of the terrorist farms above where you guys are. It can't attack you because you're on a spag so it can't reach. No. Do you know what? Dane reads is a good point. It's going to try to lash you with its tail. Nice, buddy. That's not good. It's an end-stabbing itself. Star Fox. Yeah. I'm going to give it a harder. What's your armor class? Uh, 17. Thanks for the magic armor. Alright. I'm going to hit you, hit a plus four. Could you blast to my armor class? No. It doesn't think so. To my... Inevitable setting throws. Set it to an end-stabbing throw. Show who's boss. Just slits throat. I have a hammer. Just crush its larynx. I get a big slit. I give it a negative five and then still hit you. Does your armor have any special resistance? Why? Slash and I always resist poison. Okay. Well in this case it's piercing damage because of the tail. Not the claws, the claws are slashing. So when you have to make a DC-15 constitution saving throw. Uh, plus a die-four. Yes. It's okay, it pees itself. Well, no, actually that will suck. He gets poisoned. Well, it's awkward for him trying to, you still have to roll your saving throw. But he only is going to hit you for three points of damage for the hit. Alright. I'm rolling my resistance. I have advantage because I'm a dwarf. I rolled an 18 naturally, and then a positive one. Alright, so you have half the damage. And I have it again. And you have it again. So you take another four points of poison damage. For a total of seven? For a total of seven. So it really just kind of nicked you. So it continues to fly and it gains another 30 feet of elevation. So you are now 60 feet over the courtyard and 30 feet over the next level of terrace. I didn't give you slow fall. Can the strike and see you? Yes. Ah, shit. Faden, you are up. I want to do the maneuver where I immediately strike and I give you a attack. When you take the attack action on your turn, you can forego one of your attacks and use a bonus action to direct one of your compatriots to strike. When you do so, choose a friendly creature who can see or hear you and expend once you already die. Yup. Yup. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Roll. This dragon is no longer blind, correct? The dragon is no longer blind. Not a dragon. Also not a dragon. Or it's a wagon. Well, it is a, it's classified as a dragon, but it's called a wagon. I'm making fun of him because as far as Pharaoh's concerned. He's concerned. It's a dragon. It's a dragon. The blind dragon. It's a blind dragon. It's like 60 foot long in the story. I tried to deny it. Go ahead. He's no longer blind. So I no longer get advantage. Gally is yelling up at you as you ride on the wyvern and saying, hit it between the eyes. They hate that, which is, in effect, giving you inspiration. Inspiration. So you don't have advantage. I'm going to immediately spend it to hit this guy. Why not? Sure. There's a 13. 17. You hit? That's without the blessing. Go ahead and roll with one. Yeah, you get it. Plus it. Oh, another one. 18. Plus seven. I hit. Plus bludgeoning damage. You win. All right. We should all carry leather mints. Who died six plus five bludgeoning damage? I don't think she did. I had a diet for the maneuver and I believe that's it. Okay. Hit him. Heart. I reroll once. Oh, great. Yeah. That's good, then. There you go. Nice. 5, 11, 14. No. 18. Oh, plus five. Yeah. Come on, dude. You're 19. I don't know if this is a roll, but this is my game. A house for that I always operated on. When you're a flying creature, if you take more than half damage, you start to, you've got to land. Well, if you get done the zero, you're plummeting. But if you are less than half, it's time for you to disengage or your control falls. So you have an axe or hammer. I think mall. It is a mall. A giant hammer. You bring it right down between its wing shoulder blades. And now we go to Vantash. Vantash. Next to each other there? We're just, you're 10 feet up, I can, I'm on the ground. Easy. Yeah. Use that ground level. You're up there. You're on the top. So I, I motion you, like, go 20 yards to your left. We need to be separated by 20 yards, and we're going to do the same thing. Well, yeah, what we definitely want to do is maybe when they all come to the gate, that would be because it's, it's a 30 foot. How far away are they? Wait for it. Mm-hmm. So. Right now. And they are 50, it looks like 50 years, 50 years, 60 feet. Yeah, they're 60 feet. 80, 90 feet, actually, away from the door. Right. They're two to three turns at the rate they're moving. Right. So, yeah. Okay. Got it. All right. Cause that'll maximize our area. Effectiveness, right. All right. And I don't want to be up. I want to be down. Well, don't you think that would actually be more effective? Yeah, but I don't want to be waiting three turns to be effective. Well, we can still shoot them with things, can't we? All right. Pretty clear. They actually might be moving faster than you think they are. Okay. That's great. There's this advantageous terrain. That's a long word I tried to run. Advantages. Disadvantages terrain between them and here. If we go about the ball there is, there is, there is, uh, difficult terrain. Ah, that's a much better word to say. I don't want to say that three times. There are a bunch of ball bearings right in front of the gate that make the 30 by 10 area in front of the gate difficult terrain. Yeah, the rest is kind of relatively flat and open ground, so it wouldn't be difficult at all. Shoot them with a crossbow. They'll lose one of their enemies over the few before they get there. I can see zombies and this guy who's not behaving. Is that it? That's it. Feel free to put a crossbow bolt in the guy who's not moving. There's a wide garden at all. He's a pie. Do you have any candidates? Oh, I'm sorry. I have been describing that you hear a lot of the sound of wings in the air right now. And can I wait for a target? You can delay your action or you can ready an action and wait for what? You're likely to see something before the end of this turn. I don't want to be shooting. He means this isn't flapping any closer. You hear stuff incoming. So how far away is this guy? The paralyzed within. Easy distance of this crossbow. Yes. I don't like him, so I'm going to shoot him. All right, so Vantage turns around, loads of crossbow and shoots a defenseless evil person. A prone collapse to dwarf. Justice comes in many forms. Yes. You're going to name your crossbow, right? Justice. Porns will. Here goes the enemy just like that. Yeah, there you go. That's a hit. Plus two is 20. Oh, man. That's one guy six percent. Six. Shit. Oh, shit. You are rolling. The bolt buries into the flesh of the fallen servant. It's a big guy. It's whack like a... Just a minute. Oh, it sounds like, yeah, it just, you know, sinks in. And you hear this little, wait, you're still alive. Ah, shit. The death rattle. That was a really good death rattle. Yes, we're acting. It really helped. It helped solid. It's a kill shot, and the cord's all, he just kind of relaxes and slums, and all your spell effects, just, or your mechanical effects disengage. I look at my crossbow and I raise an eye, bro. All right. I have to concentrate to keep that whole person going. Yeah. I no longer do that. Did you control your role? Oh, so you were rolling? Well, were you still like kind of reeling it in a little bit? Yeah, yeah, exactly. I was like, you gotta give a little play, and then... So do the bowfish eye, and just kind of... Yeah, I did. Disconnect. Okay. Can you do that to my next target? Yeah. Very good. I see the wyvern being beat on the head. So I then aim my attack at the wyvern as well. All right. So don't knock me off. Just knock it off. I'm just going to shoot a firebolt at it. Cloth my little steam punk on and aim it up at him and fire a little fireball at it. Could I find his wings? Crap it. Is that a thing that they want? Yeah, it's a big thing. You couldn't get your little round round and one more or two. Now you try to fold else in a wyvern? Fuck yeah. Oh, my God. 19 to hit. That's a hit. And the damage I do is a die 10, which is only two. Are you firing, do you have to be rolling one or two? No. I don't know what you fired at her. It's just a flaming little ball. Okay. You shot a flame at the wyvern? Just a little one. No. I'm just guessing the flame ain't going to do much. Right. If it didn't. I thought dragons breathed fire. That's not a dragon. I know that's what you're going to tell them to bar. Yeah. But that is not a dragon. It's a glancing shot. The flames kind of wrap around and the harness on its underside begins to flame. Oops. I'm good. All right. Do you need to move or maneuver? No. She's fine. Okay. Then what I will do is I'm just I'm watching this undead come closer and I'm waiting just like these guys are but in the meanwhile. And also because of the order of things happening as you lower your contraption that fired the right. You see to the west you hear something shuttling heavy is battering ice cream that out to my compatriots. All right. Something at the west. And you see two dark shapes emerge from the sky or at least you finally see them and you see two dragonborn and they carry with them. Stabs that glow with bluish green fire at both ends they come through the treetops and they come with insight and they are approaching the main gate and they are currently I would say 30 feet above the ground. So they are 20 feet over the people at the time of the gate and there's two of them and they point their stabs and lightning arcs from the stabs and who is on the top of the gate. The main gate would be me and I believe Vantash. Yep. I got that. I got that on the gate. Exactly. Okay. So these guys just come out of nowhere. Right. By the fog. So the guy on the the wyvern is just some asshole. Well I actually have to be barrel but yes. He's a dinosaur. Oh the previous guy. Yeah. I use the leader. I think these dragonborn are just lieutenants. They're coming in to drop some ordinance. Okay. Well thank you. That was perfect. That guy. This week saw us. Also we did fair 60 damage. So die for to hit one of the four guys on the top. Right. I have to be number three. All right. Both of them. The famous Gillick. Wow. Who is there? Old Gillick. I'm dead. You're fine. I die. Gillick. What's your request? It is 14. Maybe higher. It's backwards. It's one. Hey guys. It's piercing. One of the let me bolts just barely misses you but impacts the gate just below your feet and starts tearing apart the fortifications that you guys did on the gate. So the main gate is now been blasted with lightning and it's still up but it's not nearly as strong and durable as it was before. It's electrified now. So we got that. It's better. Those coils we put in it. Yeah. Are you re-routing it? Are you doing a Dr. Brown thing? Are you going to... That's dead. That would be deli. Okay. However, the second bolt hits you and it is... It's... Alright. Nine points of electrical damage as the letting bolt hits you. Instead of flying around, it looks like they're coming in hot like they're going to land and engage. Yes. Oh, they're going to land. Dragon's a capy-hot. Dane. What does it look like? They're going to land. Well, they're both swooping in towards the main gate and they missed you but then these are flying creatures and... Who knows? Who knows? Dane double moves up to the western side of the rampart above the gate and he shouts to both Gillig and Thadon telling them to secure the western gate. So I am double moving to get to the top of the main gate on its western side and directing Gillig and Thadon to come to the western gate and defend it verbally but they can do it with the wish. Defend my verbally. We need to be at the main gate for the undead, the cleric and the pallet. Yeah. Okay. Just wanted to know what I was thinking so I wasn't just like some... I just made this up because it's important. I think it will work best if the only men stay front. You guys can meet each other. All right. Kurt. I just popped down off the wall and I'm very glad for it because apparently there's lightning up there. Mm-hmm. And create an illusion and fade into the shadows which is basically a hide role for me. All right. You're just hiding? Yep. All right. It's like deli flavors here to be. Yeah. Minus. I'm sorry. You're just casting a spell. No. You're not hiding. I'm hiding. I'm just hiding. It's just like how deli flavors her attacks like magic. Oh, okay. Okay. I'm flavoring my skills like magic. Okay. I got it. Hide your stuff. See that was confusing me because I thought you were actually spending your spell points to do stuff. Right. And that's why I was getting confused. Yeah. Okay. Got 13. Yeah. 13. Okay. So that's hidden. Mm-hmm. Good one. So that becomes the DC for which other people can detect you for. Mm-hmm. Okay. Are you moving from the inside of the doors or falling back anywhere? Getting the hell out of the way of the lightning. Just so you know within 30 feet of you is the dwarf servant that had fallen. Yep. That's where I go. Okay. So Gillig and Thaden had moved to the west door? No. I asked them to move to the west door because they have not done so yet. Well, it just so happens that just as they were about to move and they start towards those western doors, the doors burst open. Holy shit. And three, what look to be like Dragonborn as well but these look like their skin is rough and coarse. Are they larger? They are, they're large and bulky. They move, there seems to be like really heavy movement almost as if they're made of stone but they are still moving like they're very, they look heavy and a lot of mass. They look very massive and they look like Draconians but with a really stunted kind of wings but they got really long arms that end in these heavy kind of claws. Sounds like a punch for your golems. Right. And they maneuver into the compound by these goldstone for a very long time. That's two. And I said there were what? Three? Gillig, you're up. Yeah, I'm gonna attack the lightning wielding one's right by us here. Things are about to land on my head, right? Yes. Well, about. But yes. They seem to be a bit more dangerous. The one on the left or the one on the right? The one closest to me. Okay. So I'm gonna see the one on the left, the one on the west side. So what are you, you're shooting a crossbow? Yes. All right. And I'm going to mark it with my hunter's mark. That's just the power you have, you don't have to hit it then mark it with your mark, right? A free action. Right. So you're declaring that, okay, I'm gonna... Action. Whatever, it's called. Minor action. Yeah. I'm gonna mark it so I do extra damage if I hit it. Now you did that before you, can you do it any every round? Yeah, this spell lasts up to an hour. As a minor action, each round, I can change the target. Right. That's what I thought. So I'm a mixture. So it's still in effect. You don't cast anything new. Right. Right. That spell is still in effect. And I rolled a 19. All right. It's still in a 19. Yes. This X is 25. Do you have any type of... You're sending a crit rate? Is the X set of crit rate for a crossbow? To my knowledge, heavy crossbow was just a die 20 crit. Okay. Die 10 for the heavy crossbow, plus a die 6 for the hunter's mark. Nice. Plus two for decks and it's a plus one magic weapon, so I'll post it. 13 damage. So what happens is you fire and if you remember what I had said before about flying creatures that lose a percentage of their hit points? It looks like this one you hit as he's coming in hot, falters a little bit from being hit by the arrow. So now you can tell that he's not probably going to make the gate, but he's going to land in front of it. On the outside. Perfect. All right. Do you want to move or do anything? I'm going to make my way towards the western gate. Okay. So you're... Time to shoot and move. Shoot and move. If I make my attack action, can I then spend my movement action to buckle myself into this? Death dress? Yes. All right. Then that's what I'm going to do. I make an attack action. If it hits, I'm going to do a noover, but that's if it hits. So that's one plus die four and I'll advantage go. 15 plus one, 16. Hit. Plus seven. Hit. Yeah. Hit. I'm going to do die six and then I add a die eight because I'm doing a maneuvering strike allows an ally to spend their reaction to move up to half their speed and I'm going to give it a fit and a shout for him to go to fund the west gate. All right. Don't know if he can even hear me, but it doesn't actually have a limit to whether they can hear you. Okay. So with die six, die eight, die six again, roll damage. Three roll ones and twos, which is great. Oh, okay. All right. I roll a six and a four and a five total of 15 plus five more, 20 damage that time. Geez. That's a massive hit. Barrow does not fuck around. He's coming. He makes this one down and then he buckles himself into the death trap, so riding it down. Your second death is standing below to the back of this wyvern's neck ridge. You've pulverized it once, pulverized it a second time, and it's now faltering. It's now falling in that falling. It's still kind of controlling it, but it's going to come down now and you want to buckle yourself into the saddle. Yes, because I'm also spending my bonus action to perform my second wind, which allows me to heal one does 10 plus my fighters levels in damage. All right. You're wounded. Yeah, I took two. You're from the stinger. That's right. All right. So you are now, you buckle yourself in and... I roll a nine plus four fighter levels for a total of 13 health, which is about how much damage the first hit did to me. Right. So I have 35 health now. Okay. So you buck yourself in for what you expect to be your shortest flight in landing. Also, my longest flight in my life. I don't even jump. Okay. You're hoping to use it later on? I'm hoping as a cushion. Yes. I'm also hoping that I can kill it, because if I jump off of it, it's going to run away. Well, I don't know how fast it is. Yeah. Remember that you buckle yourself into a creature, a flank creature that's falling out of the sky. Yes, I'm hoping it lands on a sea. Or to absorb some of the friction. We are at the top of the order and the dwarf zombie... Oh, yes. How far are we falling? You think you're going to be on the ground very soon. Okay. We're falling in style. Yes. Falling in style. That's totally excellent. All right. You hear a screeching command and a language that I don't think anyone has heard before. He knows Draconic. Oh. I take that back. I do. I do. I do. I do. There's someone still deep in the mist commanding the dwarves to attack the gate. The undead. The undead dwarves. The undead dwarves. And they are double moving into the gate, so they are now approaching and will be their next turn. I move half of my movement toward the big, bad person in the west. He uses my maneuvering strike to move after his movement towards the west gate. So I get down off the ramparts and down to the ground and start heading through. Okay. So, Thedon and Gillig are on their way. The wyvern screaming and screeching after that second blow dislikes something seriously. And one of its wings goes lift from the damage and is now pinwilling down into the terrace at the farm level above and you're about to crash into one of the fields. If you can give me a deep laughter during this crash, I would appreciate it because that's all the barrels going. He is enjoying himself. Okay. And so what I'm going to do is I'm going to improvise something here. You're going to saddle with reins. Are you going to try to control the descent or are you just going to hold on for dear life and try to cushion yourself a roll with it as best you can? I would gladly have a crash directly in the cliff and break its neck that way. So I will do the dangerous thing. Story is not good unless you tell it in a cast. And there's another great title. How did you break your arm, Barrow? I'm going to let you roll a very difficult deck space athletics roll. Okay. You can do it. I have a total of plus six to athletics and I rolled a natural 18. So 24. Barrow is not a good athletic part too nice. All right. Dude, you're an advocate for the players. I did say, did this say very hard or nearly impossible? Very hard. I said very hard. But I would be fine with nearly impossible. I am trying to steal it right into a cliff. All right. So what? 24. 24. All right. And you still have a bless, right? Oh, shit. I do. You're cool. 25. A kinder and generally I'm pointing it out, the DC for very hard is 25. Okay. Perfect. Yes. However, what's going to happen is instead of being gay is plummeting and he's going to crash land and I'm going to give him damage and you're going to basically take the same damage but resistance. So we're going to because you made the thing, I was going to give you half damage and then you're going to have it again. Okay. So he plummets from the sky and he crashes hard. Oh, God. Yes. All right. This is a good day. So we had three fives and a six for the listeners. So that is he plummets from the sky, he crashes into the crops, he finishes the landwater pitchfork. Yeah, he finishes the work of his shattered vertebra from the two hammer blows in the spinal one as Pharaoh tries to force the wyvern almost headfirst into it. And even though he's in the saddle, Barrow takes, let's just say we're going to round down. 20. So 20, half, 10, half again, he's going to take five points of bludgeoning damage fading. So can I move attack and heal like kind of like he just, yeah, you have second one. Yeah. Yeah, you can do that. Second one is a minor. That's a bonus action. Bonus action for fighters. Despite double move, I can't attack. Correct. So I'm going to fire crossbow and make a regular movement. I rolled a natural 19, which is not a variable, plus four, two more. So I think I hit him. Yes, he did. Six. Do you want to give me pluses for a crossbow? Yes. Okay. Is your crossbow magical or special anyway? No, that's just one of the stock weapons that I picked off for. Okay. When the bolt hits them, you notice that the bolt kind of deflects off them. It still hits solidly and causes damage, and how much damage did it cause? Totally. You look at that was a good hit, but it did not cause as much damage as you, it looked like. And you think that is very honest. Oh, yeah. Let people know that these things are magically armored. And so do you move another 25 feet closer? I move another 25 feet, switching weapons, and how does this second wind surge thing work? Roll a dead ten to add your fighter level so that's how much are you? I rolled a four. I was four. Some back. Okay. So you've moved, you've attacked, and you've taken your bonus action. You're good? I'm good. All right. Again, can I pass and let them get closer? I was looking at this death, this line of death, he's like, okay, wait till you see the... Where's Dane at this point? Right, right. Right on the opposite side. Three feet away. They're holding the ground and waiting cause it's brave, it's ballsy to watch an oncoming undead. It's intimidating. Most people would run. And those I would. Dally. You're preparing some mechanical technology for as soon as they get to the gate, otherwise running a spell. Okay. You're still at the top of the gates? Yes. Okay. At this point, I would like everyone to please roll a perception roll. I assume you're given that I'm like two levels up in the pheresis. You still want me to make some? You've got other issues with the dragon, every time I've ever. So starting on my right, I'm going to ask Mantesha for you to roll the national 20. I definitely don't want you to be a part of this. The Antesha rolls an eight. Okay. 11. Totally. I'm going to roll an eight too cause that sounds fun. Okay. Dally. 12. 17. That's your 20. That's all. Really? Yeah. I watched him roll up. Kurt is not busy with anything. Kurt is at the... Okay. Kurt is at the body right now. Yeah. Yeah. So. Because Kurt, because of his history, you've grown up in the streets. You kind of have developed a second sense for danger. And even though you're surrounded by all this action and all this spells and all this danger, you get the sudden sense that being watched, not only being watched, but something is stalking or moving stealthily, and you can't pinpoint it, you don't know where, but you get the sudden feeling, no, not feeling certainty that someone other than the defenders are within the walls. And the big, hooking things and the flying boots, right? There's something stealthy, something silent, something invisible. You don't know where it is, but you get this feeling that there's something bigger and stronger and you can't see it and you don't know where it is and your survival instincts are kicking in. Okay. Okay. I'm sorry, where do we leave off with Dally? Just so I know... Oh, sure. My pairing is a cloud of daggers, oh, it's nasty. A five feet cube on each side, and basically as long as I hold it, these little things go zipping back and forth, cutting the ribbons, anything that's in the middle of it, and it does four dice four slashing damage. Okay. So the main gate... Yeah, I'm assuming there's a small crack in the main gate, it wasn't blasted open. So I'm waiting for them to channel in there, right in front of them, and I'm gonna drop it. That's ideal. Yep. So the draconian sorcerers, one of them, because of Gilling's crossbow bolt into it, lands... And it's a controlled landing. He's still wounded, but he lands in front of the gate and he takes his staff, looks up at Dane, who's on the, on the west side above him, and there's only two people now, right? There's only Bantesh and Dane, I'm up top, correct? Yes, Gilling and Thadon have moved to the west. Dally is up there as well, unfortunately, I keep overlooking Dally. I'm forgettable. I'm a tiny little thing. Yeah. We're all tiny. I'm tiny here. One, two, three, four, five, six, and I'm going to give you a bonus on the wall. Oh yeah, because you've got some cover, or I could give you resistance to any attack that hits you. Your choice. I prefer the bonus for cover. Okay. So, I'm going to say... What kind of cover? It goes to Bantesh. Put your own class. It is 16. Ohhh. The lightning comes out of the staff and smacks into the stones of the parapet, and... The stones of Bantesh? Right. Ohhh. And it's... Bantesh ducks behind, and it's shattering brick and making a terrible noise, but it does not hit him. He's able to avoid the spell. There is still one in the air, and there's... He's aiming a dame. He's having it hot, I said, to the top of the gate. Come on. All right. Point it. And he is going to attack dame out of just pure vindictiveness. Sure. No, I'm not going to do this. Okay. With it? I haven't attacked yet. It actually goes for a daily. No. I'm waiting. Oh. It is above, and so it can see you, and you do not have the type of cover from the left cover. All right. So... He can't. He can't. He can't. One? Oh, again. See if it's a failure, a critical failure. I don't know. I don't think I have a thing for... What if he misses? Oh, there's a thing. There's a thing. Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god! Oh my god! He's standing up. He's standing up. He's standing up. He's standing up. Oh my god. He's standing up. He's standing up. He's standing up. One out of 400. Was that on you? One. One. The gods are with Dally. But I will say... I won't give a penalty here because apparently the gods are with you. So the Dragon Borage flies in, sees Dally, points his staff at her, and unloads a lightning bolt. Which goes... What? Into his eyeball. Oh no. What happens is... No. Dally is able to raise both her arms and her armor clicks into place, forming a... Parabolic bear. A concave of parabolic. Man. And reflects the blast back at the... Tenfold. Yeah. The blast back at the Sorcerer. Dally, I want to give you a chance to aim that shot at the Sorcerer. So I'm going to ask you to make a roll to hit. I rolled the wild dice just in case. That would be... Eighteen. That is a hit. You managed to reflect the lightning strike back at the Sorcerer, causing... What do they say? Oh my goodness. Constrination? Only briefly. Not bad. That's so bad. I turned to my brother, Dane, thumbs up, and say, "Torm!" Oh yeah. There's definitely a tip of the hell. Alright, Dane. What do you do for an encore after that? I just sit down and let Dally handle it. That was a blessing of Dane. Alright. Thor. Thor. Thor. The other guy. The big guy with... Thor. Oh my goodness. Oh my goodness. So by the way, as that happens, the creature still lands. Well, it's forced to land now. But it's now amongst you on the top of the parapet with thorns. Okay. One of them landed on the ground in front of the... Right. Any other ones on the parapet with thorns? So now there is... You got a turn before the zombie. You, Dally, Vantesh, and Dragonborn on top. Dane, what do you do? Obviously we're still waiting on the zombies, so... I'm going to go ahead and... Always like to the point. Oh come on ahead. Yeah. There are apparently slow moving zombies. Yeah. Yeah. It's all the ball bearings. Exactly. So come on. I'm assuming A12 does not hit. No. No, I'm much too impressed with Dally's. So you move just a little bit there? Yeah. Just a little bit over there to help protect her and attack with a great sword and mist. It dodged it. Okay. Kerth. You star struck? You are next to the body of... I start going through stuff and as I'm doing this. I am creating a spell of disguise self as this man. Alright. Okay. Well, he's wearing robes, if you remember, I'd said that he was wearing a mask. Mm-hmm. And are you... You're taking the mask off and putting on yourself? Yep. Yeah, that's not dangerous. I'm sorry. Are you can't, as well? I'm just curious. Okay. I mean... What is your alignment? I was a turnier. Okay. I'm down with that. I'm going to make you do a skill check to him quickly search him, do I use the investigate skill to cover that for now? I'll find it all. Thank you. We're real. Twenty-four. He rolled the thirty again. Twenty-seven dice. We find weapons. He has a pouch with, that has several, I'm really looking for a spell book. Heavy... He thinks... Source words. I didn't know what he was. Don't find one. They don't have... Yeah, you don't find a spell book. They use magic in a different way. Okay. He has a mask. He has rings. He has jewelry on. He has armor on. Well, he doesn't anymore. Of the jewelry. Okay, so you're basically... Can I not cast if I do that? I don't think so. He would be an action to strip him down or to get some of these things. Well, then can I just have the mask and do the rest later? If you're just doing the mask? Sure. I just want to take inventory and then I want to start issuing all of these guys. You pull his mask off and you see kind of a, he landed on his face. So... A bloody mask. It's really... He's a face. It's really kind of unrecognizable unless you take the time to clean him up. No. I was hoping I'd recognize him, but I don't. So... Well, he's a dwarf. He definitely is a dwarf. Yeah. We'll figure out what client he's trying later. Okay. So I cast... So I cast this guy's self spell. And I stand up and start issuing orders to the Draconians around. I say the humans are not here. They've escaped. They're on the way to the city of... What are you speaking of? Shit. A beautiful guy. I'm a little kid of you guys. I'm just asking, are you saying it's important to me? I'm probably saying it. I don't know what you're saying. I don't know what you're saying. Okay. You just bluff. You can't bluff a language. If you just... If you just... I'm saying how you wouldn't love anything. I want to say the time we're from. I don't recall the name of it. Rockfall. Rockfall. Everybody dies. What orders are you yelling out into work? Oh. You've escaped. This is a distraction. Quick. To Rockfall. All right. And you shout that. All right. So... Let's amplify. So you're sending our enemies to our home city? Yeah. They're prepared. They're gearing up for war. I'm sending them to the army. Yes. You're right. I am. But who's in charge of Rockfall now? It's not. It's a douchebag. Ironbeard. Yeah. I think it's Bronson Ironbeard. So now, to the western gate, the odd looking dragonborn are moving forward. Thinking. Listen at all. They don't hear things. I'm in a rock. And they are moving in. They see Gillick and they see Theiden. Well, they're... They see their boss pointing fingers and yelling at him. Yeah. They see me. Mmm. Nobody wants to see Gillick. They see him and they're just like, "I wish I had a dad out of him." Well, they have their mission. So, they proceed and they move in 30 feet. How many? There's three of them. They do not appear to have weapons. They just appear to have just really... Fits of stone. Yeah. They're brawlers. They're brawlers. They're strong. So, we're going to end with Gillick. We've seen these three brawling dragon golems. Are they golems? They move very, as if they have a lot of weight or massive. They're the brood class. But they do not move like golems that you've seen at least. I switched my hunters, Mark, to one of the dragonborns who's already been injured. And I mark him and I'm going to shoot my crossbow item. Nice. Plus six. Twenty. Yay. So, he is damaged. Slightly. Would you give me which total of damage? I scratched him already. Well, I didn't know if he's damaged because I'm using a special ability. So, yeah, he does have damage. Okay. You shoot him in as well? What kind of damage are you doing here? Is it piercing? Yeah, it's piercing. Okay. And the ability I'm using is colossus layer. Okay. Sure. Shut up. We roll your ones. No. We roll your ones, bitch. I need to do this as one. Damn it. I do seven. That is a six. Yeah. See, it's not a one. It's a seven. It's an old seven. That is an old seven. Old sevens are one. Old sevens are one. And four is twelve plus two. You're going to have four. The listeners, that eight sided dice is from the original D&D. It goes. It is. I swear it is. It is. Like all the giants. We tie a die was rolled against the giants. We're talking 70s. Yeah. And the giant steed in the ice giants. That is a 40 year old dice. And what did you roll on it? The dice. The roll is seven. It's such. It's like a one. But it's a seven. Yeah. That might seem to be a nice good solid hit. You're going to have its attention. Brian. So Gilligan, are you moving closer to Engage? Are you going to try to hang back and lend from you while you plink away at him? I think I'm pretty good at where I'm at. Okay. Barrow, you pick yourself up from carnage of the broken wyvern. It is still warm, but instead it died on impact. Oh, man, I'm still blessed with jump. Yeah. All right. You're still building with us. I am. Can I take a double move and then do a tremendous. Skip the stairs entirely and flying tackle one of these ridiculous stone skinned monsters. Of course. Of course you can. Sure. So you want to be a death from above? Oh, hell yeah. Death from above. Okay. So you're going to be jumping off the top of a stairway that goes down 20 feet? Yeah. Okay. That's how Barrow does it. He jumps on things and kills them. That's my new life motto. All right. So, actually it's, I like that. So you're going to take a, all right. You pick yourself up from the, you unbuckle yourself from the dead corpse of the wyvern. Like this is a fucking. Maybe give it a little kick. Give it a little kick. Give it a little kick just to teach you the lesson. Okay. I claimed it back from the trophy to the ground. There's a title page. And then a shitty plan. And I'm still hungry. And I'm still ready to go back. All right. So you see below these three stone-like dragonborn that are near that well. You take a running leap from the top of the stairway. And you are now airborne with your hammer in your hands. And that's, and that's, I think we're going to, we're going to leave you there. So spend it into their second attack. Most episode. Can I get inspiration for that? Absolutely. Okay. Please remind me. It's a wall hanger. And then I'll select to add a little, you know, a little cutaway scene here. You hear someone whisper to you, you know, Alvin? Alvin goes, "Hey, when do I activate the, the shield guardians?" Soon. Soon. I got through all that. And I just realized, yeah, there's 12 strange guardians in this compound with them. And I haven't rolled, because no one, I was kind of waiting, like, does anyone want that? No. Same girl. You see their undead eyes. Sure enough. Okay. Thank you for listening tonight's of the night actual play podcast. And oddly worth coming in on us for a change. Too soon, Scott, too soon. Dally did not shoot first. Are they slow-moving zombies or fast-moving zombies? This is the rage zombies. The rage zombies. Is this 28 days later or is this a fast-ass zombies? Yeah, but the anchors, they have short stubby legs. Right, they're dorms. I mean, at most, we sprint 25 feet. They look like oompa loompas. How about that? I am legit. It's not scary at all. Actually, that's- It's not scary, yeah. Those aren't even zombies. Those are vampires. Are they? Scary vampires. 28 days later, it's a pretty scary vampire. Is the vampires or something? Alright, next one. I just want to take a moment to say for the recording that the asshole who dropped the bead was me. The asshole. That's the one I'm ever seeing. So you're like, "Oh, never mind." Note to Tom's future self. I am an asshole. Alright. I am the asshole. The asshole. Sorry. I don't know the minute. I think it's very apropos of what zombies were fighting. It's called "Wake the Dead." Oh, we got to take a picture. With Russian imperial stout. I don't know who's rushing, but thank you. Well, it's been a long time since I had an imperial- Does it have caffeine in it? You know, we have the same number of vertebrae as giraffe. Really? What about why? I wouldn't have thought they would have had more. And don't we have the same magnetic resonance, the same genes as a potato or something? Some more than others. Okay. So then- Or is it ball bearings? Yeah. Okay. Or are there scrap metal cowl trips? Difficult. Some difficult training. Things to avoid. Yeah. It doesn't have like little kirth stamps on every single one of them. Maybe. Yeah. And it's kind of clear. Ball bearings are probably being advantage in mud or, you know, some kind of train like that. Well, we're not in. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Yeah. I'm not dead yet. Wait, does he say that? No, I don't. Okay. Now what? Yes. People who make my python quads should die. We have to kill them. Don't ask for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for me? And in the campaign. We're doing the best job we can possibly make. Oh. Can we please have one of the titles? We don't ask for whom the bell tolls. We're just going to cut that out. No, go ahead. Oh, I have to start leaving that in mind. Okay. I call them Chaconians. Who's your old school? I am old school. The editor. Thank you. You should give our editor points. We can like redeem them for things. With the staff. I think what really happened in my decision is when it landed, it slipped on the ball bearings. No, no, no, no. It's staff discharge Georgia. Right. Ew. I think it's staff athletes below it. Is that on your D&D chat? He flew into the wall jamming the staff into himself. And then the bowl just took it. And then the bowl went inside of it. Tom. Tom. I recognize this pile of gore. It's Jim. Oh, sorry. That's just my generic name. Okay. Okay. Cool. We're doing Jim. Okay. Oh, they should know. We feel that one full of nip on. Also known as liquor. All right. Trigger a feet point. And... Live in beer. And deal. And deal. Dolly. Dolly. You really haven't trouble with names today. Dolly Dolly. Tim. You kind of want to say. I thought. If we only had our names written on no cards. In front of us. Yeah. Barge. Bay Row. And. And Tish. And. Cry. John. Gila. Come crud. That's a root. Okay. Darn. That's our root number. They... They are the root squat. We had the... You are the root. Of course, Princess Bride is okay. But... But... But that is right out. Only if you're the editor. Which is... film. No, no. It's not saying it either. Which is from my apartment. Yes, right there. As long as we're all in the same page here. I think... Is it right now? Right now. Five is right out. Five is right out. Yes. That's a British thing in general, though. Okay. I wouldn't know. I wouldn't know. I think we need to do real. Gila, go. Kill 'em. Sorry. I want to give her a Holocaust close. Kill 'em all, man. Why'd you listen? I'm on your side. I'm not. It's later apparently. I know. I know. I'm not trying to crack the whip. I'm just trying to give you... Crack it. Okay. It's also a thermal nuclear device. The light. Spose of tips. Ten. Nine. That's what got that going on. Okay. That dies all over the people. So that, if you want to move... So, yeah. It seemed to have a much... where Faden's hit had kind of deflected and looked like it didn't really... Dude, that was... There's no way he's doing the process. All right.
