Actual Play Starts 6:56

[Intro Music] Hello and welcome the night to the night actual play podcast. This D&D 5th edition campaign, Heart of Flame, was written and run by your DM Mike. And now, please enjoy episode 249 titled "She Doesn't Have a Beard". The play begins 6 minutes 56 seconds. [Intro Music] Think back. We'll start with KOTN Podcast.com. It's our blog page where Matthew G posted and said, "Hey guys, I just wanted to extend my kudos. I've really been enjoying the podcast the last few weeks, listening to you all at work. But you've gotten me in trouble," in quotes, as I last out loud at the office a few times. I learned about you guys a few weeks ago from GM Intrusion Podcast by Lex Starwalker. Did they quit post? They did. He does. He's not there? Yes. When he mentioned your new manera actual play. I started there and have since hopscotched across your archives. I really enjoy your latest D&D as I've always wanted to participate in an all, or nearly all, to work for an adventure. I don't normally choose to play a dwarf myself, but I've always enjoyed the thought of an entire party of surly dwarves taking on an epic quest. Maybe it's nostalgia for Tolkien's The Habit. I can't wait to see how you little guys and gal do. P.S. I love the steampunk gnome sorcerer and how she causes more chaos to the chagrin of her dwarven family. Thank you. Thanks for the props. I'm glad you're enjoying the podcast, Chris and I'm also posted on the same episode and said, "Oh no, it's finally happened." After starting with delivery, well, neutral grounds, but quickly moving on to delivery. Back in June, I've now listened to everything the KOTN has available on the website. He's caught up. Luckily, the most recent episode released yesterday, so at least I have one more to go through. I'm stuck with all your other fans waiting for your weekly fix. I think that's the first reasonable and allotment of time I've heard somebody take to listen to all of it. Usually it's like, "I started listening yesterday and I finally caught up." I'm like, "What the fuck is wrong with you? Are you in time time?" Well, last week. I listened to it. We got a triple speed. Seriously, we've got a couple thousand hours of podcasts. That's a perfectly reasonable and allotment of time to take from June until now. A couple hundred hours, I would say. Is that all? Two hundred and forty-eight episodes is about an hour each, so yeah. Oh, okay. I thought I was listening. I live more than that. Whoa. Glad to know it. You all have been a wonderful traveling companion on my rides to and from work for the past number of months, and I'm more on the fact that you shall be such only once a week for the foreseeable future. Keep up the fantastic work, and I'll be looking forward to each new release. Thank you for all you do. Any chance of getting an updated PC and PC website rather than just the one for shit luck? I'd be interested in scans of your character sheets from all your campaigns. Is that on the Wicked, whatever you are? Yes. Jason McDonald has done a Wikipedia page that's specific. I don't think it has character sheets scans, but there's definitely a lot of information on there. I'd be smart if you got those. I would be surprised if you got those. Why are you not used to if you got those? I could send them to a mineral. I would be concerned if you got those. You have to sneak into our basement and steal them. Jason's done a great job at keeping that wiki up to date. There's also our Facebook page, which has a lot of pictures. There's also on Facebook a fan page, which there's a lot of information there as well. The reason why we can't post our character sheets, really. You spoke up. It's your job. Do it. That's pretty much what I found out. The difficulty is that nobody hands them over for anyone to scan. Right. I've got a wonderful scanner right upstairs so you can scan them all. I just put them over there. I thought the problem was that most people can't read our handwriting. At least mine. Well, they can just enjoy the fact that they can't. Oh, that's Jim. The sloppy one. See, they'll have to say that. Okay. Over on Facebook, episode 248, going to fight it from the inside, Luke G posted and said awesome episode. When I knew it was a carrying crawler, I got nervous. Back in the old days, those things could wipe a little party. They actually are really pimped. I read the Monster Manual page after the battle and I was like, you should be able to shut down. But I didn't say that. We were talking and doing stuff. Also, I've always pronounced it bré with the French accent for some reason. Never thought of it as a bullet. That's one of those monsters Gary Gygax and Arneson came up with by buying the weird prehistoric animals choice set that you can get at a supermarket and standing out the bizarre monstrosities included. Rust monsters was another one. Not sure, but maybe carrying crawlers as well. Owl bears and maybe the terrace. I read an article on it. Last thing. The last adds to attack roll, not damage rolls. It makes it easier to lay a hit. My opinion is that 1 dice 20 plus 1 dice 4 bonus to hit is better than damage of plus 1 dice 4. Of course. Thought I'd mention it. I think we'd figure that out later. Yes. There is the die 20 sucks. I commented on that. Interesting. I read it correctly and then we played it correctly. Well, we'll get it eventually. Chris M also posted and said, "It's not bullet. It's b-u-lette." Wow. It's bidu to which I responded for. He laughed. He was French and I speak. B-U-L-A. B-U-L-A. B-U-L-A. Playing Chris said in his defense he's Canadian. Like French Canadian. I'm sorry, that's not a defense. That's a lot of Canadians. There's a lot of Canadians. Thank you. Only one before all your corrections, gentlemen. He never promised to be accurate, just entertaining. With that, we aren't going to give away a t-shirt because I'm not prepared to do that at this time. We'll do it next week. But we will mention that anybody who donates $1 gets put into the drawing. I did get an email from Yvonne saying that he did get the t-shirt. So my Spanish are the side of the road. Well, no. He actually got a message from the post office that said there's nothing here from Tom Flanagan. He laughed out one of the 39 required numbers. That's right. The address was missing six or seven rows. It was a longitude and latitude. That's the one that threw it off. I know it's the case. And with that, we will get on to our fifth edition and adventure. I'd mic your dungeon master for the Heart of Flame campaign. Starting on my right is Michael playing Bantesh Bodeck, the Hill Dwarf Cleric, and member of the Runehammer Clan. I'm Tom playing Dally Level 3 Steampunk Sorcerer and Tinkerer, adopted daughter of Thirl Rune Hammer, displaced refugee living in Rock Ball. I'm Thomas playing Barrow, the four of them fighter, I was thinking of adding the last name Iron Hearth, but I'm not sure yet. It's a good one. I like it. Yeah, it's very dwarf. I'm John playing Kerf, the Clanless Ward of the Runehammer Clan. Okay, so going back to our previous session, we came upon the terrorist farms in an aftermath of combat and destruction, part of the facility or the farm is in flames and you ended up having a knockdown drag-out fight with a pair of large monstrosities called carrying crawlers. For that, everyone at the table gets 150 experience points where they're defeating these two monsters. We should mention the fact that our table is life this week as a number of players are sick. They're really sick. And for inspiration, we have Vantesh gets inspired by rolling that super critical of divine, channeling divine energy that Dally defeated his opponents, but carried through and shattered a facade while revealing the hidden vault. Oh yeah, I missed on the first one and made up for it in the sink. And double charged on the second, so almost 600 more F.V. all of a lot. We've got four nights to play. Maybe it should be fairly close, I mean they're having too many things, but I'm sorry, that was for the combat. That was just the combat experience, and then we also add an additional 100 for the role playing that was going on. Which one of us will play? Okay, so when last we left, you're in like the rubble of one of the storage warehouses on the bottom level of the terrace farms. V is scattered around the floor along with one heavy monstrosity, dead body of a carrying crawler and another pile of ash that was rendered incandescent by the power of torn. The smell of rot, oh just the smells of burning and smoke and the putrification of the bodies that are some of the former farmers and guards of this terrace farms in this one room. You've broken through what was a false wall that was concealing the entrance to a, for lack of a better word, a panic room where I say I'm calling it a vault. So after you had seen a boxer plaque on the vault door that is reminiscent of the same kind of craftsmanship and magical construction on the gold ones, are there the gold that you found? Is there a particular family that creates the gold ones? Not that you know of them. Okay. That was just curious if that was common knowledge. I thought we mentioned there might be different styles of gold depending on where they're built. So it could be there's a different person at every town whose job it is. I did mention that the golem that was pulling the wagon was fairly crude and it wasn't a finely crafted, elegant structure, but it was plain and effective. Good enough for a far more. Alright this plaque that you showed us has nine boxes and on the bottom has nine numbers ranging from one to nine. Don't worry folks we will have a picture on the website because right now I will say that Gellig is going to run a brief patrol on the outside of the farm perhaps to investigate the fire and see how serious that is and Dane and Faden have gone with him to help support him. So remaining in the room are Fantash, Gally, Barrow and Kirth. So looking at this thing, I'm assuming that us players have to work this out and that. We're all scholars. Characters. I would like to. Okay. In that case. Looking at this, the one that we should start with is the multiplication because if we have only one through nine, you can't, for instance, do one times anything because one times anything is going to be itself so it can't be that. So we have to start with two. So two times three or four is going to equal six or eight. So two and three. If we go higher than that, three times four, twelve, we're already outside the range. So Dally is saying the multiplication has to be two times three or two times four. One of the numbers is definitely two. And nine has to be either here or here or here. So you're saying nine has to be here, which we know it's not, three is not going to be here. Mine can't be there because we have to divide something in a chemical three. So technically it could be two times four equals eight. We're saying it could be nine minus seven equals two. What divided by is equal to four, eight divided by two, so we used two though, and we did. Yeah, so I'm saying that can't be it. Okay. So I'm starting to think two really longs here. And three on the top, either three or four. Mine. So right here, if you got nine minus six, that would equal three in the top. And then you could have. No, you cannot have that because four times nine has to be there. Why does mine have to do that? Because you can't divide something evenly, but dead then it equals six. Yeah, won't work. Mine has to be there. All right. And as the players are calculating and studying this plaque, Vantesh, you kind of get that flash of memory of the dream that woke you up last night, that urgent dream where people were trapped in darkness and desperate and hoping for rescue. Right. Is there a hole that we can get into? We did it. We did it. Is that what we're doing here? Is this going to get us in there? We can't get in there any other ways, I just. So I see. Can I see the nine, five, four, six, three, two, seven, one, eight, that's it. Is it? No. Okay. So what if you found a different solution? So you know who is doing what with the courts? Were there other correct answers? I put the one in the seven there. We did seven and one and one seven. Editions, community. It gets us in your order. So now that you've, you think you've sussed out the solution, now you have to execute the solution. So who is doing that? Me, I have experienced with golems. An exceptional hole. Earlier today, I touched one a bit and yelled at it. So I think I can handle it. So what is it that needs to be done? The courts. They're tiles. We need to slot them into the correct positions. Oh. Now that we've done them now. Just like the goal. Oh, I've got it. I think, yeah. He's got the quickest reaction in case it's wrong that he blows up. Okay. So. So standing in front of that, actually, who is, is everyone standing within the door when Chris does his, uh, this lot? You scared? I think the rest of you should take cover and I'll stand next to him in case something bad comes out. So I have Kurt who is slotting the courts tiles into the, well, then test suggests that, uh, Barrow and Dali take cover. Oh, yeah. But if there might be a fight bond here in case they got into the walled after these horse, do you think you could heal me? Oh. I took some damage during the canyon crawler fight that we didn't get to recover. Very. Sure. Okay. It's relatively minor. I'm not doing math. Seven damage. So, you know, just scrapes and cuts and, I don't know, minor acid burns. I can't remember if I ever got hit by the tentacles. You have bars from dice? Yeah. Okay. So are you going to heal him? Kurt, are you waiting for Vantash to heal Berl? Eleven. Yay. He'll throw him off. All right. So I make sure that Barrow and Dali are behind something or round a corner or something. Okay. All right. We take cover behind the rotting corpse of this canyon crawler. All right. It's a great cover. It was really hard to hit it. I'm in these things and he holds the last one in his hand. He slots it in and the door begins to open and light comes out and dragon fire. No, no, no, no. He made an illusion. All right. Cool. And then I like pull the last tile out of my pocket and put it in. Barrow makes a diving roll to intercept Vantash because he's so important. Yeah. I get more shield up. And then we all put her inside the head with my axe. I get back into cover. I think his dragon fire really does come up. So, yeah. You see for a brief moment, you see a flash of a dragon fire. Why the hell are you the one helping him open the door? If you die, we all die. Be the cleric. I'm also the leader. Get back to it. All right. Chris Snickers behind his hand. Great. Thank you guys for fooling you. And then he puts the last quartz piece in the slot. All of a sudden, all of the mechanisms on the plaque start to turn and rotate. You hear this loud crackle and you start to hear the grinding of stone on stone. The wall splits, revealing a narrow passageway choked with smoke, dust, and gritty debris. And then you hear a single command barked in dwarvish. It says, "No!" Whoa, whoa, whoa, wait. I wasn't far from the truth here. You know. You are. Okay. What do you do? What do you do? I hide. I hide in the truth and cover behind a dead carrying crawler. That's just yelling in dwarfish. We are the Runer clan. Come to save you. That's good. So you're in the room. What I need everyone to do is give me a safe throw. Dally and Barrow have advantage on their safe throw. Wow. I rolled a 16 and a 15 with advantage. Okay. 16 plus whatever. Yep. Save where I'm rolling. Dally? Oh, it's straight up. I rolled a 14, but I don't know what I'm adding to it. It could be a name from a 15 to an 18. Yep. I'm taking care of that. Okay. Vantage? Four. Well, you were standing up and chatting into the concur. Nine. Yeesh. Okay. That was going to get a 10 to a 10. So you hear an explosion, kirth and vantage feel, jagged rocks, heavy glass and splintered metal and a coat of destruction that blasts out of the dark passage. Shrapnel cannons. Direct their cannons. It's the greatest. It's one of your home. Got jokes. I'm bleeding. Barrow does not react. He believes this to be an illusion. I think this will leave in the... Oh, that works. Ha, you do a lot of damage. That's what you get with a blunder boss. It's very inaccurate. Not a wall on there. Not a wall on ceiling with that one. Vantage and kirth both take 10 points of piercing damage and you're nacked prone and you are stunned. I don't know. Piercing damage. So if you have any type of resistance to piercing, some of you may have armor that has that property to resist piercing, you don't have any calf damage. Yeah, I don't know about that. Yeah, if you didn't get sat written down and if you didn't talk about it, then you don't get it. Dally and Barrow, you were still peeking over the, well, you were close enough so that the shock and some of the shrapnel still hit you and you take five points of damage and you're kind of the explosion that kind of knocks you down. You're prone at the start of your turn and Vantage and kirth are prone and stunned until further notice. So this is regardless of armor class, I'm wearing scale with a shield, I just take 10 and I'm down. Following the detonation from inside the chamber is more smoke and you smell a definite alcohol odor. Oh, yeah. The worse. We're home. The closing. Thank you. And you hear a desperate of determined, determined battle cry indoors for torn followed by another battle cry in common for the dragon slayer. And you hear Bob steps and somebody is rushing out of this passageway. You are stunned and prone, so we need to roll initiative now. I'm wondering if they're deaf or just stupid. Oh. Well, they were deafened by the test cannon blasts, that's why they're all screaming. So if I could get initiative, all of you get to get to roll initiative and you do the orcs figured out the algebra and now they're in here. Okay, so, wow, Kurt gets up 10. Kurt Barrow. Barrow roll the five. Oh, deli? Five. Everyone is surprised and shocked. Okay, great. Concussions do that. Yeah. Dally, what's your next? Two. So, Dally, you see coming out of the narrow passage, clearing with smoke and again, the smoke has like an alcohol tinge to it. You see several dwarves, male and female rushing out with war hammers, spears and sides. They're wearing leather armor and you notice that the armor does not appear to fit well on them. Which one appears to be the leader? There doesn't appear to be a lemur, but what you also see coming down through there is a squad of human warriors and they're wearing chain mail and they have swords and shields and the shield has a design on it and they're wearing tabbards and they bear the design of the human kingdom to the southeast, which is a silver unicorn and a checkered blue shield. What's the relationship between the dwarves and those humans at this point? Back before the dragon, you had trade agreements and you had non-aggression packs. You weren't exactly friendly nations or allies, but you were trading partners. Dally, could you give me a perception roll? Nine. You don't perceive anything other than what I've just described. I point my spider's little antenna at the dwarf at the front of the crowd rushing towards us and send a message into his head which says, "We're all towards here. There's no works to attack, stop. Please." Says the gnome. Tilly kid. And you say the endorvish? I say the endorvish. I am an adopted dwarf. You said the endorvish? I'm more of a dwarf than you are. A dwarf can. This is straight into his head so he can't possibly not hear it. Oh wow. Okay. That's what Dally does, going to Barrow. Alright, we'll stand up. I'd like to try to identify the leader of the human group. Let's see if he's in this bash with a perception check. Alright. I'd do a perception or an insight. Actually, I'd be insight with it. They're both the same for me. Okay, then just roll. Fuck you, dice. You got rocks in your eyes. And dude. Is that a natural win I'm seeing? It is. That's what that's looking for. I go plus six. I still roll bad. I'm going to step out from behind this corpse and try to protect our fallen comrades. Who are going to get really fucked up if these guys with the spear start to stab their collapsed bodies. So I'm going to enter the same area as comrades, Kerth, and advantage. I'm a can't stay on Kerth because I'm loaded with scale armor and shield. Right. So Barrow moves into a defensive position over Kerth. Dally has sent a message with her magical tack to who she pursues to be the leader. Which is this matronly dwarf that was in the lead carrying a bull spear. And just before she plants it and buries it into van Tesh's guts. The matronly dwarf slows up, spreads her arms and holds everybody back and she's almost speechless. She's just so happy and so she's crying and smiling but then horrified at the same time. Her name is... Logan. He'll deal bombs. Buttons of steel hilden. So she stops and she goes, "You guys, you finally made it through, are you from rock fall?" Yes, we're from rock fall and thank you for the warm greeting. Whether you could help us resuscitate a few of our people. Oh, I'm fine. So everyone, now that you get a little better look at them, they look like they have not slept or eaten in days. And they actually, this initial foray seems to, now that the adrenaline is subsiding, they look exhausted, terrified, just hollow eyed and desperate. Hilden kind of gathers herself up very quickly, gives kind of urgent instructions to the others and to the dwarves come and they take curth and band tesh and they kind of help them and drag them out of this corridor and out into the main storage area. What are you guys hiding from? What did this? We found the carrying crawlers but they come after the main event. We've been under siege for over a week. There's no one here but us. Who said she didn't she get our messages? We've sent messages. How did you send them? We received no word, we came when we stopped receiving food shipments. We were sent out just to figure out what was going on, we're not an army, there's what, eight of us. Yeah, this is really good for not panicking people, but whatever. I'm not very good at talking. So Hilden is like stunned by this and she goes, "Okay, well let's tend to your friends quickly and see, but do you know?" When the army's coming, they're not. We could bring them. Well, how about Kerrigan and Hildor, do you have you guys who've heard of them? I mean, are they here? I don't think so. Who said perhaps the ones who would be passed? No, they would have been able to tell us what's going on. That's right. Well, am I shaking it off? At this point, yes, they don't have anything to give you out of them, they're just kind of getting into the fresh air out of the smoke and out of the debris. How many are there? And there are about ten dwarves, six humans, and then there are a sort, I'd say about another twelve dunals and then there's some elderly. Noncombatants. Right. There's one tall guy that is dressed in leathers and has got a bow. And then there is another one that is kind of dressed in very brightly colored clothing and actually got what might have been, even fine clothing but has since been soiled and dirty and torn and everyone looks like they have endured a lot of pain and hardship over for at least several days. Three days or so, if I remember it. She then sees the fire and she's overwhelmed with what she's seeing and she's like, we've got to put the fire out. That's the greenery we haven't stopped in. You maybe want to send some of your men out and scratch for food, do you guys look like you're half-starred? She's looking around and she's, did you kill them all? Did you chase them off? I mean, it looks like they abandoned this place. What is they, what, assaulted this location? We faced orders on the way in but there were a total of ten. We saw our blood too, here. Right. But how many? Oh, they had orcs. I'm talking about those droponians, those dragonborn, those servants, they're the ones that came here. How bad is the fire that's ongoing? It's fully engulfing the northern portion of the lower two levels and it's part of where the two cover it and fog with that damp on the fire. It's a luxury fog isn't it? Okay. Let's check. I'd take it there's a substantial portion of the structures that are wood. Is there a well where I remember nearby? There must be if it's a farm. Yeah, we've got, yeah, we've got the, you know, the wells. I started organizing a fire chain. Yeah. Like a brigade. Kids, humans, whatever, shut up, get over here. You're on to fire. Yeah. We'll play the fire out. According to Hilden, when was the last time you heard activity sounded like the enemy? That wasn't us. You didn't know that, and we thought that they were finally breaking through. They've been working on it for three days, trying to get in through the door, but Cornelian spells to help the door shut. So not counting the last 10 minutes, what was the last time you heard any activity? Cornelian is the fancy human? No. Cornelians are no. Where the hell is that? You didn't mention a gnome. No, Cornelian. Everyone knows who Cornelian is. No. You mentioned the list of a lot of people. None of them were a gnome. Did we see one or no? No. She's mentioning it. There's no gnome here. I rolled a natural 20 on my Christmas to organize the water chain. That's why. Okay, so. People listening to me, God damn it. So despite their fatigue, despite their fear, their knowledge of fire and that their home is burning and your motivation staggers them over to the wells there. And there is, again, you notice more actually what looks to be like a odd pumping mechanism that once again, snacks of no much handy work. And you notice that this- I could have felt better. But actually, you think it's pretty elegant and efficient for what it is. I mean, it looks like- I could have built better. Okay. You found your view? No, that's my personality. That's right. I could have built better. It says right here. I'm a tinkerer that built better for mine. All I'm saying is that you recognize that this is quality work. Yeah, but I could have been other. That's fine. That's fine. There's an expert in the region. The reason why I'm describing this to you is that you've seen as you follow this mechanism and you're kind of fascinated by it, you realize that, okay, this is designed to somehow irrigate the farms and it seems to be able to draw water up hill, which I think is pretty cool, and kind of gives you a bunch of ideas. But perhaps you think that if you damage it in a certain way, it might be more efficient at putting out a fire than- if I improve it, it should be a great time for a flood. So I automate the machine to disperse water in a better fashion using a men's spell if I must or just pull out my little steam pack from my backpack. Well, the fire is growing. You have got people running around with some of the buckets doing some of the initial fire abrogated work. Your ideas, though, your brain's flashing with the lightning and some of the ideas that you're working on. And I'm going to say that you have an opportunity to kind of do the contest. I'm going to improvise. Your challenge is can you modify the irrigation system with the materials and tools on hand to effectively contain, reduce, or put out that fire? And so you think about the amount of time that you have to succeed. All this is going on. Chris goes to look at the golems or what's left of them. Well, hold on a second. You don't look so well. Allow me to fix you. Is there anyone else wounded at all? Because I'm going to do a mass kind of healing thing. The only people that are wounded right now is your party. Barrow and I took five, you guys took ten. They've had time to treat their own wounds, but their issues aren't wounds. Their issues are fatigue, exhaustion, hunger. Okay. So none of them have any wounds? I mean, yeah, I mean life on the farm's heart, so I guess they have scratches. We're going to do a prayer of healing, which is a second level. Okay. There's up to six creatures of your choice can be healed, so. I'm a creature. Yeah. We get four. So when you get there, I'm stuck in a thresher, you know. Then you sure, two of them are, two have burns. Okay. I'll get to the humans in a second, so I just want to get Bally on her way. The time is of the essence, Dally. And your eyes have followed the path of this contraption and how the pipes and irrigation ditches and connectors all work. And you have a way of making it better. More modifying it. So the issue will be how many successes you can get in enough time to start the water flowing onto the fire. So for the first round, we're going to say where the right spot to modify it is. So we're going to see if you find the right spot. This would be your tinkering, your background, or is there some skill associated with that? I can do that. You have to handle something. Yes, I will. Can I do the healing? Yes. Vantesh will proceed with the healing. We all stand around the pipe while Dally stares at it. This is prayer of healing. Two six creatures of your choice. You can see within range, each regain hit points equal to two die eight plus your spell casting ability modifier. So here we go. Fourteen, I think we're all better. The power of Torm flows through Vantesh, spreads into an area, and the lacerations and cuts and wounds that you experience seal up. That should cover the damage that everyone had. Including myself. Okay. Can Torm make it right? I wish. I'm sure you can. I don't know how to request that. Inside is the skill that I got from my Guild Artisan tinkering background. Well, Insight will give you a good way to try and wear all the nineteen plus three. It will be my Insight 21. You spend the first round quickly analyzing and seeing how this mechanism works. And with your Insight, you decide that two key junctures above the fire are what you need to modify. Your next step will be to actually modify it. Okay. The humans, they're pulling out of the vault. The guardsmen are carrying what looks like a heavy chest. And you see the tall guy with the bow. The tall guy got facial hair. He's got like a thin beard. It's time to judge. Clearly not him. Actually, I was just wondering if he was a half-elf. The tall one with the bow is actually female. And she doesn't have a beard. She doesn't have a beard. No. It looks like a lady. Okay. So, this guy, he's dressed like a sit-in. And what looks like firing. You know, he is wearing a dagger. He's got this tabbard as well, and they all look like they are having the same badge of office, which signifies the human kingdom to the southeast. And he kind of looks at all of you, and he seems to zero in on Vantash. He greets you first in Dwarvish, and then he continues to come. And he goes, "My name is Reginald Argent. I'm his Lord's Herald from Landfall Keep. Our mission was to take us en route with gifts, services, and treaties for the Dwarves of Rockfall. I thank you for rescuing us and lifting the siege against us." Well, I'm not sure how much we had to do with lifting the siege, but we need to find out who is responsible and track them down. I believe that we've had nothing but time to sit and wait for our deaths and this darkness in this vault. It was thankful for the doors of Terrace Farms here. Their health has been extraordinary. I've lost many in my company since we were assaulted here. God, has it been a week? I've lost count of the days, but we've been under siege here for at least four days. Although it's been inside the vault, it sounds hard to keep a count of the days and nights. Of course. Do you have any military background, or is there any in your company? I have my guardsmen with me, and my guide here, Mila. I'm just wondering about tactical information, about what kind of numbers there were, formations, and whatever. I mean, we will get together later. In fact, Mila, who's this tall woman, perhaps you find it hard to judge beauty in other races, but you get the sense that this is not really the kind of female that likes soft things or comforts. She is a person of action. She is kind of hardened from life out in the wilderness, and she kind of has a kind of a steely green gaze of a matter, and she's got that brown hair, green eyes, but her face is kind of tan and wrinkly from exposure from being out in the woods. I mean, this is someone that kind of helped Gilligan's, you know, even for a dwarf. So, you know, she hears what you said, and she steps in and says, "I'm Mila Darrow. I'm one of his lords' rangers. We were besieged by a few of the servants, haven't you, the servants of the dragon?" Yes. They were the minions, if you will, the servants of, well, the dragon. Foreignness had many lackeys, many minions, and with this apparent death, they have been kind of disorganized and scattered. I don't know why they pulled away. They couldn't get into the vault, but I think we need to get a sense of what our current situation is, and she turns to Reginald, and asks Leave to perform a recon around the farm right now. Do you know me Gilligan? Yeah, we mentioned that. Reginald, yeah, Reginald turns to you, and I don't know if it's really speaks in Dwarvish, just in case you think they can understand it. Reginald is the apparent leader of the humans right now. The herald turns to you and says, "Why are you leaving good dwarf?" May I send my person out to scout? Absolutely. The four of them is the three that we have out there. What's the fastest about your word back to Rockwell? Just walk back. You have those draw, so you met originally come with us, and now they go back? Mm-hmm. Oh, that's right. You guys said that was a dumb idea. Not all of us. Okay, I'm coming. Call the wounded. With that, unless anyone has any other questions about the humans right now, we're going to go back to Dali's situation. So Dali, you've successfully decided where your activity is or what you have to do. So two points that need to fix it. Sixteen on the first roll. Nice. I pretty think Dali. So Dali is working furiously. It's not quite going yet, though, but you think that if you have another minute or another second, you should be able to... Was it successful for one then or no? You were able to... No, you were working on the first one. Okay. You don't have the first one yet. Gotcha. Okay. But you're close. Down below the fire brigade, they're drawing water. They are passing it to each member. A lot of it's getting sloshed on the ground. Well, they're staggering because of their exhaustion. And they're not being very effective at it, but it is helping. So Dali is making her modification to the first one. She's going to try again. Eighteen. She's able to make the modification and expand the nozzles and angle them in a certain way with her tools and her equipment. And now she has to move over to the second one. I'm spending my inspiration in drawing two dices and finishing this fucking thing already. Twenty-one. Bang, bang. So... Plus two crowns. Twenty-three. So she spends another round and you get the water flowing and you are ready to attack the fire. The fire has expanded and now you need to cause a certain amount of damage now. I would like you to make an attack roll where you are going to direct this modified irrigation against the fire. So I want you to make an attack roll. And if you succeed on this attack roll, this modified attack roll, either way, you're going to get water on the fire because it's going to work. But how effective your damage is going to be. Okay, so for example, if you miss the attack roll, you get one dime damage. If you make the attack roll, you get two dices of damage. Okay. Would a bless help? Bless is always helped. I don't think I had two attack buns. Can I flank the fire? You can, but you're going to get two shots of tension. I would be shooting you with holy water. Yes. Sprinkling of holy water should bless up to three creatures of your choice within range. Whenever a target makes an attack roll or a saving throw before the spell ends, I would say that you're closing up then. So I get to add die four to the type 20. Attack roll or saving throw. Cool. Oh, I don't think I needed it. And I did not. Okay. So it's 26. Wow. I did slap that fire. Yeah. I was 19. The four sided dice was the three and I am plus four. Wow. Okay. Plus four with one. I will are able to put four die six worth of water damage against this blaze. And I have a certain number better suited to receive. That's only 10 damage. It's a great start, but the fire is still going. The water is still going too. The water, yeah, the water is flowing. So then you guys see that Dally is now cleverly redirecting the irrigation that went to the crops to the fire. It's doing a good job of dousing the flames, but the greenery is still burning. The fire brigade is still going and Vantesh will start with you. What are you doing? That's the colon arrived yet. It was traveling. Thought he might be used to only moving. Yeah. He's on his way, but he's not here yet. We need his wagon to him anyway, so let's find a wagon and fix that. There was a wagon in the storage room. I remember it being pretty broken now. Yeah. How we sit on rations? Because I think, well, I want to find out if they found any food here. We need to get these people fed and if it means sharing, then I'm willing to do that. I think Guillric had fuel rations for all of us for two days. Plus the rations we all started with. Plus he doesn't really need them, is that right? Yeah, he's good at finding food in his own. So I think between the food that's left here and our rations and Guillric we could probably... You certainly have enough dorm and spirit. We talked about also serves as emergency rations because of its target nature. Does it serve as dipole in an emergency? It can. Actually, we talked about that. It can. And actually you... That's how they tried the can. There you go, Chris. Chris, you get inspiration for this. I'll get that stuff on top of the other inspiration I'm not using. That all stuck. I know. Give him away and then you can refill. Yeah, I know. Do something worthy of my inspiration. Oh, you mean like saving entire village and putting out a fireframe? It's not worth it. It'll just burn down again. I beat you over there. It's going to stick to tricks. Is everybody working on the fire? I mean... Anyone other than you three and other than the human guards? So I go out and help with the fire because I don't... If your whole life is gone. Okay, so do you have any spells that involve water? Yeah. Other than plus. I keep looking, but there's still not there. Okay, I just wanted... Yeah, I was hoping I could do that. Okay, so by the way, you also can't help but notice that this fire is giving off just tall columns of black billowing smoke. So you're letting this whole plateau know that there's a fire here or this is a location. So your experience in the mountains and your knowledge is like, yeah, this is kind of a beacon. We're kind of exposing ourselves. Right here. Yeah. It's going to be even more noticeable when it goes away. Okay, girl. Girl doesn't quite know what to do to help either. I mean, you can carry a mean bucket. So these kind of buckets and all. That's important contribution. These people certainly need all the help that they can get. And I would say this, how about if you guys being stronger and more durable than fresher than these people, then if you want to be a part of the fire brigade, then your efforts, if you can roll a successful attack against the fire with your buckets, I will let you add to the damage that is being caused to the fire. So actually, let's start with Vantage. If you want to take the bucket and attack that fire, these are the bucket, a martial weapon. No, it's a simple weapon, which you're also proficient at. Yes. 13. Okay, it's not hard. You can't miss a fire. There's a good way to find a fire in a bad way and you are just barely getting the good way. So you are able to inflict an additional, die-free damage for that bucket. So you caused an additional two points of damage to that fire. Seal the fire, kill the fire. Fire roll at 22. Oh, was it an actual 20? Now I rolled a 17. Nice job. So you know where to put that bucket and I'll roll a die-6 for me. And it gets... May I trigger one of my commander's strikes abilities? What's that? I can distract the fire. Give the next attacker advantage. You're not going to distract the fire but I will let you pass that advantage on because you are directing somebody where the best spot is to put the water to help put out and fight that fire. Hit the base. Good. There's some fire. What? Okay. And try... Oh, when I use one of my fires, I get to roll and I should die damage. Oh, yeah, look at that fire damage. Oh, wait, wait. Whatever I use, one of my commander's strikes, I get to roll and I should die damage. But given that we're fighting fire. Yeah. I was just trying to... Well, I don't think Kurt believes in fighting the fire. So I'm going to move on without him and go to Dally. Kurt has this strange belief that privileges are meant to be burned down. I think he's going to be the villain someday. He builds with wood instead of rock. What? Oh shit, son. That's a 20. Holy crap. I'm going to die far. Two men. It's early on the 28th. The base of the fire? Some bitch shit. Okay. You feel your chaos magic suddenly bubbling up on you? I can use one of my spells to augment the water. And the thunder wave converts to a water spell in just literally. Describe to you again what a thunder wave is. A way of a thunderous force sweeps out from you and each creature within 15 foot. The original Mavic constitution saver would be knocked over blah blah blah. Or add into water. Actually, do you know how you put out a oil fire with explosives? Because the shock wave knocks the... Well, I don't know. I'm sure some will correct me on the complete physics of it. But one of the things they do is they have to set off a force explosion. It suffocates them. The suffocates are crits if I could then knock out the flames. So then they can turn off the valve. So how about this? So now that you've got that, I'll let you roll the damage. Let's see what your damage is. Oh. And it's a critical. So I'm going to say you get double damage. Holy crap. Those sixes. Lots of sixes. Two. And 20. Thirty. Thirty. Five. Let's go. What do we do after the fires off? This is a place where cast magic comes into play. And you feel that little tingle of the onset of the magic doing something. Unfortunately, you never know what that something could be. In this case, though, you're able to channel it into your goal here. And what you manage to do is your modifications to the irrigation system. It's like something kind of like not loose. And the water flow just increased suddenly. And it became far more effective. I told you I could make it better. It became far more effective. And did a wonderful job of helping the flames advance and dowsing them. And then your magic manifests in your thunderwave, which just the shock went in your thunderwave spell. The primes, the remaining flames of oxygen and the fire in one fell swoop of daily magic and technical know how it's put out. Some of the survivors have fallen to the ground because they're already hot in water and they're already exhausted. The thunderwave just completely floors them and all the flames are out. And Dally stands on the second tier triumphant. Nice. That's kind of a nice place to stop. Okay. So, we'll have everybody head off the next week. That's somewhere between October and November. And it's because it's eternal. It's entered the night of October. I like October and I could do like a- It's like a rock album or some sort. Better the second time. Go for a third? Yeah, go for it. Whatever you want to do. I'm John playing Perth, the Wardless. Okay. You have enough. Fuck it, Buckett. He's an angry dwarf. Okay, he's that already. Do you have anything that would provide me from coughing a lot? If I did, I'd be taking it. Yes, I'll ask Jamie. I thought you had lemon or something. He had cough drops. Last time, they might- I'll be gone and that's fine. Oh, he has some cough drops. I only had two or three. I don't want to touch him to get you. I don't know if it's the same thing. Okay, come on, Bob. Thank you, John. I haven't coughed like in the whole week, but naturally because we're recording. Now I want to cough every few seconds. You got that tickle? Yeah. Carrying? If you're a cave crawler, there's something else entirely wrong. Carpy crawlers? I don't know. Avatar, actually. Okay, Genesis, son. Did you ever try pulling a patient character? Yeah. Okay. Which one didn't work at all? Seriously, we've got two parts of it. That's about five seconds. I have the youngest dwarf here. I don't know how he can be anything else. You're doing fine. What patient character? I can't think of a single character you played on a patient. Is Daniel inpatient? Yeah. Is he? Because everyone else is too patient, so you need to every once in a while tell us to get up. Trying to speed things off in a game that takes too long times. It was valid. I was just saying. Yeah. Okay, there's that. Relax. It's okay. You want GM screens out there happily every time you like? Why do you suck a rolling, Jim? I won't do that. That's being a dick. That's fine. I'm a strong believer that the GM should be able to make up the dice roll if it doesn't match the story. Okay. Is it valid? Don't you have a DM screen? That matches the story. That is exactly like the golem they built. Shitties. Well, it was actually okay. So what happens is. I go first. Yeah, first. These guys are stunned. Wow. Next turn I get a chair. They both broke better than you. Nice blunderbuss. Yeah, seriously. Did you rub the fertilizer in there? Just in case. What? It's this blunderbuss. It's this blunderbuss. It's this blunderbuss. Firebase. What? How many translations? Now the humans can talk to them. They're all rusty, but. Oh my goodness. Hilden, now you're going to cast. Wow. I want it just so bad. I have it be like somebody in charge of a flop house later. Yeah. Oh, goodness gracious. The greatest whorehouse in all of Rockfall. Do not. Do not. Whatever you want, God. It's a human who wanted to appear more rapidly. It was a dwarf name. They were like, all right, how old are you? Steel Cheeks. A bucket chain. A bucket brigade. A bucket chain. A bucket. It says, "Fuck it." Shorter side, they are insisting in at work organizing everything into different, you know, when someone calls in for a problem, it goes into this bucket or that bucket, and the support people have come up with the fucking bucket, which is the place you put it because the boss doesn't want to see it in any of the other buckets, but we're never really going to fix it. The fucking bucket. Almost inevitable when we think about it. Yeah. A bucket brigade. The bucket brigade, yes. I'm just trying to think of how we would do a contest like this. Like, how would you compete against this fire? Well, in fate, which just might give you an idea. The fire would have its own skill, and there would go back and forth, but who can beat who? It would be a rice. Kyle was wearing a shirt today that says, "I will trade my sister for candy." Fuck. Okay, Kurt had an idea of bringing, well, first of all, the reason he sent the go on here was so that if we ran into anything, it looked like a big smashy tool he could say, he could program it to say, hit the thing with red on them, and then throw illusions of red onto his enemies. Brilliant. So that the go on would run up to them, and go, "Go on, go on, go on, smash them into bets." Cool. Which is the sound effect you should say. Hopefully none of us were wearing red. Well, he would have picked something that isn't. Yeah, that's crazy. Because blood's red. Yeah. Don't get older. So in the future when the go on probably gets here. Yes. Okay. That's why I feel working go on here as well, because we had to pass it up. But just to let you know, because apparently I'm supposed to review my plans to the GM instead of trying to surprise everyone. No, I enjoy surprising everyone. And I understand that I'm saying that if you have something that you want to do, sometimes explaining it to the GM. That's a good idea. That's a good idea. I will help you do that. Okay. Rather than fight you. We're not understanding trying to go in a different direction. Right. Slipping on those. Okay. Yeah, you don't have to tell all of us.
