[Music] Hello, and welcome the Night to the Night Actual Play podcast. This D&D 5th Edition adventure, Heart of Flames, was written and run by our DM Mike. And now, please enjoy episode 248, titled, "Gonna Fight It From The Inside." Actual play begins 5 minutes 24 seconds. [Music] Just a few bits of feedback this week, Mr. Murkkey on Facebook posted under episode 247. Kinder, gentle, or DM, he said, "When I heard the steampunk contraptions started emitting sounds, the first thing that came to my mind was, "Help me, Van Tesh Bodeck, you're my only hope." Mike, he's unsurprising, current, congratulations to him. That's funny, because that's exactly what I thought, but I actually had to restrain myself from saying that, you know, you're my only hope, because I brought the start, borest thing to mind, but it would have interrupted the flow of what the thing was saying, so... I don't remember that at all. Remember the situation? Yes. The box that was on the golem with the... Oh, yeah. Anyways, Mr. Murkkey continues, "The clockwork dominion caught my attention as well. Since vampire the masquerade, I got interested in mood and theme of goth and punk, and after going through Gibson's neuromancer, I got the vision of cyberpunk, and as for steampunk, my first argument in what I have against it starts with, it's not even got a bit of punk in it. If you call it steam pulp, or maybe magic Victorian, I have no issues there, but there's no evil corporation, nothing to rebel against, no poor obese masses. Where's the punk, then? "Clockwork dominion did something with the punk." That's the first positive thing they got my ears glued to the rest of the interview. So, yeah, that was something that Zeke made a big point about as well, he said. In the interview, I believe that a lot of steampunk doesn't have any punk in it. That was a big important thing in their game. I still have not read the book myself, because Scott's been hoarding it, but... Yeah, I didn't read too much of it myself. But I'd like to, when we get pride away from Scott's hands, R.E.J. also posted under that episode and said, "What have you done to Scott?" No, wait, Mike, maybe I'll just listen to the episode, because we couldn't have a kinder, gentler, DM in Scott, so we had to go to Mike. Oh, R.T.O.T.N. blog page, we had one very short message from Elijah G. who said, "What level are these characters?" Three. And we got a third level just on the cusp of fourth level. Some of you might be pushed over. Well, not on the episode we're going to release after this feedback, but on the game tonight, you're absolutely right. I see that as a possibility, even before we start. Some of us who have missed are less cuspier than others. Yeah. You missed one day, and you're off the cusp. It wasn't the biggest, apparently. It was the only combat, wasn't it? Well, at the time it was, yes. But that is the end of the feedback, so just like to point out that we are now in November. But with it being November, that means Christmas is just around the corner, so that Amazon links up there doesn't cost you anything to use it, and it gives the podcast some money. What are we, a fucking chain store? Halloween hasn't even fucking happened yet. Well, you know, you got to shut up early. Yeah, Amazon takes a while to get there, you know, you got to think of it. Like two whole days with Prime, holy shit. Christmas is that close. I was going to say not if you're out of the country, but you can't use Amazon like you are. But you can use the Patreon page. So thanks to everybody there, and we will be giving out a t-shirt probably next week. And hopefully we'll hear from our last t-shirt winner, Mr. Yvonne, if you could post a picture, or at least just let us know that you got the t-shirt because that was a particularly long journey for our t-shirt. How long of a journey was that? To Spain. So, yeah, far. Which the biggest problem I had was the address, how they do addresses in Spain. And I'm looking internationally, apparently France uses a somewhat similar. And what I first asked him for his address that I should send the t-shirt, he sent me like five or six lines worth of it. I couldn't figure out what was a street, what was an address, what was, I couldn't figure out anything and I swear to God, one of them looked like a longitude and latitude. We eventually got it straightened out, and hopefully the t-shirt is found its way into Yvonne's hands. Oh, provincial of you. Yes. I'm glad I didn't have to do it. I'm a morgan. But with that, we will turn over the reins to Mike, our DM, so we can continue on with our fifth edition adventure, Heart of Flames. This is Mike, your DM for the Heart of Flame campaign, starting on my right is Michael, playing Vantish Bodeck, the Hill Dwarf Cleric, and member of the Rune Hammer Clan. I'm Jim playing Faden of the Rune Hammer Clan, Mountain Dwarf, Fighter, Father, Artisan. I'm Tom, I'm playing Dally, a Level 3, Steampunk, Sorcerer, and Tinkerer, an adopted daughter of Thurl, Rune Hammer, Displaced Refugee, Living in Rock Ball. I am Scott, playing Dane, Rune Hammer, Steion of the Rune Hammer Clan, a third level Paladin of the God Torn, Waffle Good in Sentiment, and Conflicted in Action. This time I was playing Barrow of vaguely the Rune Hammer Clan, Third Level Fighter, Mountain Dwarf, Experienced, Soldier, John, Playing the Curth, Illusionist, Clanless, X Criminal, adopted into the Rune Hammer Clan. And you begin to smell the faint odor of smoke. You are still kind of surrounded by trees on this road, and half the golem is just moving and it's steady pace, it doesn't tire, it doesn't need food, it doesn't need anything into it. Well, you could go faster, but if you wanted to go faster, you would have had to leave the other way, I suppose I should pass that question for you, I don't think. You're not waiting for this thing. Okay, fair enough. Fourth March. Okay, so honor, let's say that the golem will be about an hour or so behind you, okay. Looking out, here's where it ran out, time to write some stuff to ask me if we get golem. The Curth is very sad, the golem is left behind. It's kind of like Mr. Squirrel. Curth has evil designs on the... Finally, I'm minion to do my bidding, just kidding, I don't know what he's going to do. He's going to use it as a tool, I'm sure. So you crest this hill, and you, like I said, you're looking across this plateau, and in the distance, you can see the terrace farms, and what you see is built into the side of several tall hills, just like the name implies, terraces, these wide terraces that stretch all across the hillside. You have not the horizontal part of the top part of the terrace, but the side part of the terrace. You see doorways, you see panels, you see windows, where these are the storerooms, these are the granaries, these are the apartments, if you will, of the farmers and the families that live through the hearths. And then on top are the crops and the partitions. Some sections of the terrace farms have smoked stacks, where they were tanning services, or the brewery, which would be, and then you see part of it that it was enclosed in class, which is like a greenhouse, if you will. You see black smoke pouring out of the windows and pouring out of the ground. Most of this is a structure that's built into the hill, so you know you're only seeing the front of it, or just the face of it, the facade, if you will, but there seems to be one end of it that is spewing, just spewing black smoke. There doesn't seem to be any other activity that you can see from where you are right now, and it's about-- You can see any movement of any type. Let's do a-- does anyone have a special power or spell that they would use? I got eyes like a hawk, but I'm a fighter, so nothing really. But let's do a perception check. Dalit, don't you have a scope on your natural 20? Jesus. Really? Dane, he seems oddly-- there doesn't seem to be any movement other than the building clouds of smoke coming from the far end of the terrace farm. The saddest natural 20 ever. I will also add, because perception isn't at just sight, there's no fighting, there's no sounds of cries, there's no-- Any kind. It's just to vantash that whatever pace we're going to get now, we double it. How many minutes out are we? At a run speed, 30 minutes. Great. Okay. Same as it ever was, yes. Same marching order. Curth in the front with Gillig, but Gillig's not here, and I believe it was vantash. Weapons out. Fading in. Barrow are in the middle. I saw the dally were bringing up the vanguard. Yep. Mine being up front here when we had the veteran, but uh, we don't. You got vantash next to you. You got the leader. Yep. With healing. Here's my thing. Shut up, punk. No one can shoot. Really? It doesn't like anyone. I don't know why that would have burned your chances. Just tell him to point out what happened last time he was in the front. Tell him to fight. We all died. Yes, it was terrible death. No. You died. It was a pin cushion forever. I am spear around. What is this new nightmare? I wake too. I'm saying you shouldn't be in front. Are you disagreeing? You caught every javelin that was thrown at you last time. You refused to wear my armor. My reflexes are that good. All right, fine. I'm fine with kirth leading. I'm fine with what the uh, yeah, you would think it was my god, the gorgs are so stubborn. We're not running into a combat. Vantash is the leader. What the fuck are you talking about? That the firm is smoking. We are running into the combat. Which is why you're not going in front of corpses. Gilligan's leading. I wasn't hit. Gilligan. He was. He was. Gilligan's leading fate in second. Third to state. Okay. Thank you. Or fourth. You want to put your own front there? I can handle third. Wow. Yeah, right next to us. I'm on a ghost and fate. The slapping of the armor back on daily pounds or knees and everything. Is there a duration for that? Yeah, eight hours. Oh. Okay. We stand there intentionally definitely. It doesn't take any hours to do it. It lasts eight hours. Right. I seconded it. I just wanted to make sure. Okay. That was open. I heard Thadon say that you are drawing your weapons. Anyone else got their weapons out? Yeah, of course. It's all right. I don't want to make us some double letters. I just want to know what I'm doing. Now if we're kind of jogging, kind of moving quickly, I don't have weapons out. We're just turning. So we get attacked and... No. All right. So you get closer. Now that you are close and you're approaching, I'm assuming the main gates. You guys want to... There's gates to this terrace? There were gates. Okay. Twent apart. Gotcha. So now that we're approaching it. So now all of our weapons are drawing, please. Yes. Okay. If we're at the gates, we get stopped running, I then take out. Right. Okay. It appears, judging by the shattered gates, the damaged defense towers around, it looks like they have been the victims of a heavy assault and that there is signs of massive fighting. Wherever you look, you see splashes of blood on the ground. Any carnage? Oddly, no. You do not see any corpses or bodies or any corpses. That's what I'm showing you. That may not be all that strange. Hundreds of tracks, footprints back and forth. It looks like there was a lot of activity here. However, looking at the splashes of blood that you see, dried brown and, you know, not even the flies around them anymore. Right. They're kind of like... Yes. And intervals along with the terraces are wide staircases that go up. And the staircases also kind of have a smooth ramp, if you will, up to the center of them. It looks like some rubble, the shattered remains of what might have been... Swords? Like broken swords or clubs. Yes. As you look around, you see hundreds of spent crossbow bolts. So just dwarven weapons, nothing from the perceived attackers, so we believe to be the attackers. Almost. The attackers were orcs. They could be dwarven weapons, too. It could be, but their weapons are usually shittier than ours. That's a good point. You do see splashes of not good, honest, red blood, but you see, you know, viscous black blood that has been kind of splashed around. You do not see corpses, most of the weapons you see are dwarven. There are some, well, it's hard to tell, but we're not getting closer. Kerth volunteers Barrow does his thing to hold the dwarves to us, if there's anyone in hiding. So Kerth is calling out... No, he's asking the leader... Oh, shh. Oh, sorry. You do remember the dragon scream that shook me. I do. Yes. That'd be the most effective way to tell people we're here, but all this looks abandoned to me. It's up to you. I'm not sure that's a really good idea at this point. I also want to remind you that Vantesh and Dane had experienced an extremely profound dream. But people being boarded up in a vault and people trying to get at him. What was it? You're making that connection, I'm not just reminding you of the profound dream. Well, that was Delly's point in wondering where exactly the safe house would be because that's where we should be. I do construction in building things, but I have a good idea where they would put one of those or what it would be. Actually, then what should you be a history check based on your architecture and engineering skill? I rolled a five so like plus two would be seven unless I get an extra die either. What's your intelligence? While you are familiar with some of the fortifications and the battlements and architecture of Rockfall, you have never gotten around to studying the farms here. Which is one of the reasons why I'm here. And Delly used an investigation to follow the track of where the battle went and where it seems to have headed. Could you use an investigation role to do the same? Yeah. You were investigating. You were investigating. You were investigating. Yes. And I'm going to use my inspiration or two dice to make sure this works. I want to know where the bad guys are and where the good guys are. Hiding. And I rolled a 19. Oh, no. Oh, no. I'm sorry. Wait, I have plus five on investigation. So I rolled a 21. One has been kind of moving around the courtyard, being on their guard, ready to respond. Delly is reading the signs and scanning the courtyard for clues and the mechanical spider kind of gets her attention and his little jewel eyes seem to point towards a certain set of doors. He's got that little magnifying that comes over my eye and just a little shish and focuses on on something. Right. And so you hear what sounds like movement within one of the storage areas, a hundred feet from you. Your investigation also revealed several drag marks where it appears dragging something. Dragging thing. We should probably follow those. Right. I think I know where they are. I rolled the medicine check to see how long ago this thing happened. That's right. What did you roll? I rolled 17. I have plus six. Judging by the stains, they all seem to kind of be consistent as to the time. They are approximately three to four days ago. Yeah, I'm going to pair us off so that we're like covering each other. Okay. And it sounds like we have a target, but if it ends up going room to room, I want it I'm going to team up with Kurt and we have three groups basically. Dame, Dally, and Gillick are going to head directly for it. I want Barrow and Theoden to go a little bit past it and Kurt and Van Tesh will wait on the near side. Okay. With, I'm going to have my crossbow out and looking for movement. The noise you heard and the drag marks were on the first level. It's like a level. You, you are currently on the first level and the drag marks appear to go to a store room area or a staging area that is at the first level. Okay. So myself, Dally and Gillick approach the store room moving cautiously. We're using perception of Barrow and Theoden are moving with you and then past wherever we stop. They move past it. The movement or sounds that you heard stop. With Van Tesh's instructions are be followed, Theoden and Barrow should now break off and try to come around the back side entrance. Finding another entrance past the broken door or the, not the broken door, but the door that's hanging by a thread and I walk to the front entrance and look in at the same time that Barrow and Theoden are looking into a window. Okay. We are all trying to coordinate looking at around the same time so that we're able to react in a, in a similar time frame. I, when going to ask for initiative, I can, I roll eight seventeen and four from thirty feet away. I rolled eight, seven, fin, I'll take a seven, three, you listen, I said stay back. You understand that Dean said he was an eight Barrow, seven, well, come on Kurt, you sick bastard. All right, wow, you rolled the 20, didn't you? Roll one, roll it ninety one, look at those two, well, it was a nineteen, oh that's funny, glad you're enjoying. I can't help it. I'm sorry. What's in the window and I get a crossbow bolt in the eyeball? Sex. Yeah. Next man up. Going Kurt first, Kurt rolled up, perception boy. Is it an open window? No, it's, it's, it's been shattered. I see. Okay. Was it made of actual cloth? Mmm. It was made of a kind of translucent crystal, more, you know, like a, you've seen it before. That's just bullet proof. It lets the, it lets the light in but still keeps the weather secure and it's actually very nice but, uh, it's been, it's been smashed. Okay, give that, is it reflective? It is not reflective. Okay. Then I just pickle. Sixteen. Eighteen. Eighteen. You do not, you see inside, you see that the room, you see like a stable, like it might have been a stable back in the day but it's been converted more towards like the, um, Dome and Corral. Yeah, it's not really quite a gold corral but you see like an old, another wagon in there, the, that wagon seems to be intact. There's debris on the, on the floor and it is, uh, dark and there's dried blood everywhere and it looks like, like paths of movement have come through this area. But I don't see anything currently moving. You do not see anything currently moving. Then I go, I'm deaf behind. Okay, you're deaf below the window. So you're still on the outside. You're not inside. Mm-hmm. Okay. So there's a 13 perception setting at the somewhat broken down door. You see basically the same thing. This is an old building that's been around for hundreds of years and back when you, that used to have be some burden and oxen in the courses, those would have been kept here so it's kind of like a stable but you know that that has not been used for this purpose for a long time. Right. So in that case, if not something, anything, I step inside through the broken doorway and cast divine sense. I cast it at the end of my movement so I have the greatest range, which is a range which is 16 feet from what you see is a 60 by 60 feet wide by 30 feet deep. If you're facing it through the doorway, 20 feet, there's like two old stable stalls there and there's a bunch of like stone mason tools and things like that and then next to those stalls, you have one of the large wagons that the kind that you saw with the golem and then on the right side, you see kind of tumble debris. It looks like shattered boards, stonework and everything kind of collected into a pile. The smell is horrible to the point of rancid smell the smoke that's burning back that far away from you. You smell putrification, you smell fast. So with the 60 foot range, do I sense any. Undead, you do not sense any celestial and you do not sense any fiend. Right. Unfortunately, it doesn't have evil so I'm too bad for that. Okay. Well then I'm standing, you know, 20 feet in the room or 15 feet, however if I was able to move through the debris, I'm walking into the room kind of scanning around looking to see if anything's moving and that's the end of my turn. Okay. All right. After that comes thin. I rolled a 15 on my first option to see if you see anything unusual to this window in this vantage point. You do not. After that comes the barrel. Uh, I'm rolling it through the window. Sure. Or come over to the foot door. I'm clearly going through the window. I guess that'd be what you're trying to just hop through the window. You're going to try to do like a acrobatic thing through the window. Nothing fancy. I'm just climbing through the window and the broken. You want a standard movement or something like that? No, I'm going to make you roll and you're just going to. I just want you to be like, are you trying to jump in and roll up? I don't know. Yeah. Plus you've been rolling so well today. All right. I'm helping shove them through. Thank you. Okay. So you go through, I'm sorry, what did you roll on your perception? As you're going through, talk a ton. I rolled the natural 19 and then I have plus six, so a total of 25. Six. I'm very wise. He's very wise and perception. So you're climbing through the window, you get down there, you scan around and your eyes go up to the ceiling where you see this monstrosity clinging to the ceiling and it has long tentacles on its, it looks like a giant caterpillar with long tentacles on its face and it seems to be poised to strike down when you see it. Blissfully unaware. Heads up. I mean, ceiling. If I have another action left, I'll throw my ax at it, behind it. I also have Valax, but I keep it strapped to my back where apparently anything can fit regardless of circumstances. We have super... Like a halberd. Yes, like a halberd, which happens to be 10 feet long. Okay, so you see this white caterpillar like Bonnie, it has multiple legs that ends in little pictures that seem to climb the walls or hold it, anchor it very well and it has these enormous compound eyes and a mouth that looks like a, just a toothy sphincter and that's surrounded by these purplish white tentacles. You throw your ax? Yeah, hand ax. Fuck yeah, I rolled two, I have plus five to hit on a hand ax for a total of seven. If it's surprised. No. I don't even remember how surprised it works. Oh, you hit yourself as the ax came back down. It's a boomerang. The ax, you throw it straight up it is. The ax clanks off the stone of the ceiling and you miss. And with that, the ax is close to your face. Yes. This creature, it reaches down with its tentacles and mandibles and tries to bite. Dane. Okay, Dane is carrying his javelin. Is it a heartfucker or something? I'm pretty sure. Heart seeker. What about the heartfucker? Heart seeker. Heart seeker and a shield. So I, of course, after Barrow screams and then whips the ax at my head, I look at him with disdain but then catch his drift and what he's going for and then I put my shield up and put my javelin up and protect myself from its vicious attack. You're good luck with that. All right, so what's your armor class? It's 17. 19 with the shield, which I thought might come in handy myself. Wow. Yes, suck it, demon, tentacles 61 feet away. I'm not really advantaged. He has multiple attacks. Oh, fantastic. The green is the tentacle because it has a bite. And the other one is a bite. He's a bite. So it's kind of like coming down at me. The tentacles lash at you and you're able to catch them, they slash against your shield and you barely deflect these tentacles. And then while its face is done by you, it snaps its teeth and it tries to bite you but it can't-- The javelin kind of like fends it off, I think. So you fend off the initial attack by the carrying crawler. I say by storm. It's a surprise. Giant dish thing. It's silly. From the rubble, rather than shoots out like a mori or coming out of its cave, and attacks a mori. The burrow. Does burrow know if they burrow or do they just happen to live in caves? I don't actually care. I just want to say that I love. So which armor class? 17. 17. Nice. And do you have a shield or anything like that? No. Burrow prefers to wield a giant hammer. I understand. And again, just as the green is the tentacles-- Thank god. The tentacles slash you and fail to penetrate your armor, so you'll find it off. And then as the ugly teeth kind of get in and try to latch onto you, it also misses. And you notice that there's some kind of dripping icore or sludge that seems to come off the tentacles. They've got excretions. So now you are in this close space with two nasty, Bantash, you are next. I step through the window and do a spell. Yeah, we could just leave. Nah. Run away. These things befall our brethren's home. They need horses. They need to die. Let's spell. Bless. You bless up to three creatures of your choice within range, which is 30 feet. Okay. And whenever a target makes an attack roll or a saving throw, you get an extra die four. Okay, so you're giving advantage to Curse, Burrow, and Dane. Okay. Plus die four. I have advantage and-- Long set last four. --kind of duration. It's done until you're attacked and you know if you're turning through attack, doesn't come yet. It's one minute. It's ten tones. Forever. All right. I'm stepping through the window as well. Is there a location where I can do a spell? The spell is a 15-foot cube where I could hit both creatures with a-- Do you need a linensight? No, that's surely. Yes, because currently they are there in the center of-- Oh, they're both striking at me. Right. Now, are there any people within this 15-foot cube? Both of them. Yes, Dane and Dane and Burrow. Okay, so what I'm doing is a spell called Thunderous Wave, but she hooks up this thing to her steam engine and just lets loose with this coughiness blast of sound that just shoots out and just shakes their afters. However, she's spending one spell point to carefully cast this spell and avoid my two friends because-- One spell slot? No, no, no. One spell point to-- Oh, because your resources are right there. Which allows me to avoid hurting friends of mine equal to my charisma value, so two. Nice. Just happens to be-- I thought-- Sure, you were going to hit me in that day. No, no, that's both. Oh, you know why it is? Because we're both wearing equipment that you made. That's right. You've hit my-- I know you've hit this hammer. If anybody has-- Like you wise to do this because I'm also bumping it up from a spell one to two to do more damage. Just totally cutting loose with this gun. Like when you're in a bottle, but your thunderous for first people. Yes, that's what I used to do. Can I give you that? Because I'm chanting and-- Yeah. All right, that's very good. I'll give you an inspiration. Because I saw your post on Facebook about how I don't give you any inspiration. I never get points I said, but you gave me one this morning without me even bitching. I mean, this morning. The beginning of your speech. No, you did bitch on Facebook, which is why I got the one for-- Okay, I see. But that's very inspired and very creative. So yeah, you be walking the door? Yeah. 11, so the total would be plus four, so 15. It is a hit on both. Okay, so-- Do you need to roll independent one for each one? No, no, that's two because of the inspiration. No, it's an area effect. It's an area effect. It's everybody in the cube with that. Wow. Okay. But she used her magic to not avoid you, so there's little gaps in the coffin that avoids you. So each is hit with three dice eight damage. Very chaotic. How you avoid it does. Well, that's my dwarven training. Obviously. The dwarfs. Okay. Constitution saving throw. On a failure, they take this. All right, so one of them saves, and one of them doesn't, so if one saves or makes it, what happens? They take half damage. Half damage. Okay, so-- And they aren't pushed. So, now, the one that failed takes full damage and is pushed 10 feet away. So hopefully it's one of the ceiling. Yes. And it'll fall down, but that's your choice. Call it out or even. I would say that's rather odd that it's the ceiling, but it is the one of the ceiling. Okay. In addition, on secure objects that are completely within the area, two are pushed 10 feet away. The whole pile in the middle. Yeah. I just blew stuff all the fuck over the place, committing a thunderstorm, which is, by the way, hereable up to 300 feet away. Come back with me and close. Yeah. And I just forgot to say rig for silent running. 18 points of damage. I didn't put the silencer on my hammer. To the one on the ceiling, any additional falling damage, if you wish, the one on the floor takes nine points of damage. And all my friends are right last day, okay. I don't know. And everything else in the middle of the-- Is not. It gets the wall. Okay, so if anybody was hiding in the back wall, they are now patterned. So what's going to happen is Dallie's kicks in the door, he gets her contraption door. She fires this thunderwave cannon. Not only do you hit the one above Dane, and you knock him off the ceiling and you push him 10 feet, and he's also dislodged and falls 10 feet. So I'm going to add another dice of damage from it flopping down onto the stone floor. From my height, and it makes this horrible, high-pitched squealing noise. The other one, just with its claws, kind of digs into the stone, so it doesn't really get pushed at all. It's hair waves back. Yeah, it's identical. It's kind of flashed back, and then it gets more angry. But the wagon gets pushed against the firewall, and some of the rubble and debris that was in the side shifts and moves. And that's where you also reveal an ugly discovery of a bunch of dwarven bodies being munched upon. Kind of a larder, if you will, where they're being tenderized, where these creatures might have been storing some food. Liquid dwarfs, yeah. So that was not a pleasant discovery. So that is Dallie, and that takes us to Kirth. Kirth is stunned and is going to lose-- It's going to end unintentionally. He was behind me. I don't know how to-- Yes. He is striking. So we go to Dane. Dane, though both creatures now are on the floor. One is to your right within striking distance. The one that had been above you and had lashed out at you, got knocked ten feet away from you, and it's at the far end of the room. Does it seem to still be moving? Yes. They both are. I take the javelin, heart seeker, and throw it at the one that first tried to hit me. Well, actually, the only one tried to hit me. I mean, I rolled a nine, but it's plus five to hit, so it's a 14. I think it's plus one, because heart seeker is a magical or a mythical weapon and some sort. So that should be a 15, and that's all I got. Actually, you rolled a 16 now. Oh, so it's plus two instead of plus one? Yes. I can tell that it's very well balanced, kind of thing. Yes. Okay, so I believe I get one die six for the javelin, one die four because I am blessed right now through the power of form, and then plus four is my normal plus to damage just in general. Is it plus five? Because it-- It's plus six. Nine plus six is 15. So you damage it very heavily with the javelin, but it does not die, just gonna squirm and squeals on the tip of the javelin. And so if I use that as my action, I cannot draw another weapon this turn, correct? You've taken your accurate. Great. So I just take my shield and try to protect myself against its counterattack, which I know is coming. Okay. Here was our five feet, never mind. So, Satan, I'm gonna go in the nearest door and move to the nearest creature. Which is the one that barrels fighting? And smash it with a hammer. Only after that, I believe, Kurt has shaken off the echoes and the damage from all the-- The cacophony of noise in his return to his senses. You hurt me even when you didn't hurt me. Yes. Well, we just use that as an excuse. Nice. Well rolled. Sorry about that. Satan. I rolled a 19. That is a solid hit. You really hit. I rolled a big one. If it's two handed, you get to reroll one, so remember? First a tunnel. I rolled an eight. No, you rolled a three. That's a 10. Oh, look at that. It does look like an eight. A three plus your strength is... It's still nice. Seven. So, we... Oh. So, you take a crack it on the skull and you've moved and now you're within range of the evil creature. Kurt. Have I ever heard of these things before? Caring crawlers are a dwarf shirt. You know what? Caring crawlers really ate. What? Those thing are worse than you. They're Caring eaters. They really don't like hunt to meet themselves. If there's a bigger creature around that killed it, they scatter. That's a good. So here comes one of those giant things shaped like bullets that just ride through tunnels. Bullets? Bullets? (Laughter) Trains. Also known as a land shark. Land shark. Really? That was an old bullet. Yeah. That's stupid as shit. I ran up back on this one. Whatever noise that is comes barreling it through the window here. As I like, smashed some glass to add to the effect. So you're just creating a side effect to try to spear them or scare them? Yes. Into thinking the predator is coming back. First, the glass begins to tremble and then dust molds start falling from the ceiling. Those aren't sound. And pretty soon. Well, really minor illusion. I can do a lot of tiny shit. Low frequency. Uh-huh. There's a deep bubble from in the earth. So, okay. May I make a suggestion? Sure. Damn. You make a roll versus your skill to say how good the solution is. And they make a saving throw. If they fail, then we have advantage because they're scared. Well, I just don't know if they hear per se. That's what they got ears. Then they talk about their senses aren't they? The crawlers ride at the sound but do not appear to run. And they said continue to, if I try to eat up, they redouble their efforts. I won't say they redouble their efforts. They don't run. If they eat us, you wouldn't move him. Or anything else? You do. Nah, I'm good. Okay. Barrow. Barrow pulls out his maul because he was wielding an axe earlier and he only has two hands. You can kill over to mine. It's prone. You get too dice. Yeah, it can move. But, would you give yourself up into an opportunity attack? I would. You're just going to kill the one that they would have started on. Yeah, do that. That's a great idea. I spell safe. D.C. is 13ish. I think that's right. If you eat tonight. I just said you're on orange. So are you swinging at this? We think. I rolled 12th. I don't know if that's a mess. You just missed it. Carrying crawler has now got a choice between Faden and Barrow. Yeah, but Faden hit him in the face. Barrow knows. Right. So, I'm going to say... He should be wrong for... He should be wrong for... I'm going to tell you what, I'm going to... The tentacles are going to lash out if Faden, the bite, is going to go for green as the tentacles. Gotcha. 15. And that does not hit the... Well, it hits him, but it doesn't penetrate his chainmail. Just one. Oh, jeez. See you here. All right, so the bite is just a one. So... I think it's tough. Yeah. It's a bit smaller than it happens. Maybe... I think it's the bullet effect. It's about to gather that maybe it is more terrified than I had thought. So, the creature kind of snaps defensively, but then backs up a little bit more. And then... That's the one that attacked me. No, that's the one that attacked Faden and Barrow, the one that is going to attack you has only got you... Yes, to choose from. So, it's right itself from its prone position. Right. And it is going to move at you and strike. All right, I try to blind with my shield. He is the tentacle. I no longer have the javelin. That is a 22 for the tentacles. The tentacles slip past my shield and struck home. Okay, the bite is deflected, but the tentacles hit. And as these tentacles wrap around Dane, I need him to get that I-core all over him. Yes. I'm not a fan of I-core. And he needs to give me a constitution saving throw. I get a plus die four, I believe, to saving throws. If it involves poison. Oh, no, no. Yes. I'm talking about the plus four from the block. Plus. Oh. Saving throws as well. And it is poison? Yes. Okay. It's like an advantage as well. So, you have advantage on this roll. I rolled an 18 and a three for the blouse. Okay. So, even though you get hit by it, and you will take damage, you are not- Poisoned. Of some poison. Poisoned. Due to my dwarven resilience and my faith in Torm. What happens is you are hit for four points of damage. Okay. There's kind of corrodes and seeps between. Yeah. Yeah, it's not that bad. It kind of annoys me a little bit. All right. But it takes us to Vantash. Everyone marks the second turn of their blouse. And blouse? No. No, it wasn't in the room at the time. I thought it did. No, blouse. That was part of the three people- In power on X amount of feet. Yes, it was. Oh, my bad. U.I. I apologize. I'm going to take it back. But it didn't come into play. Yeah. Your sling would be twice as effective at this blouse. Actually, the blessing does not take effect on the curve. But that's- But we don't know that. Yeah. I mean, Kurt will know that. Kurt will notice something- But Vantash will not? Yeah. Vantash and Kurt both will know that's the blessing for some reason to not take on Kurt. Because he's got a punk kid. Why do you touch them fucking coins, man? But God's not been there for me. I'm not surprised. All right. All right. Turn two. God continues to not be there for birth. The creature attacking Dane is the one that was hit the most. Yes. So far, seems to be- And it was also bleeding the most. Okay. I'm going to hit it with a guiding bolt, which is another 20-foot range. So no problem. Oh, easy there. Guided from the will of Torm. Indeed. So you become a conduit of holy wrath and you fire this bolt of divine energy. Or radiant energy. 4.6 radiant damage. Holy cow. You have to roll the hit. Or next the tap roll is made against the target before the end of the next turn has advantage. 11. The bolt misses, but it goes and shatters against the fire wall, knocking it down 13. You throw the radiant beam of energy. It just misses the squirming of this giant creature. And the radiant energy goes against the wall that has already seen a bunch of damage and the fire wall begins to crumble, revealing a darker room farther in the valley. She takes out her little gun and with a puff of steam launches off a little blob of fire at the wounded one by her brother. I believe I missed when I rolled a... 11. 11 misses. Now the globe of fire passes by the damage when it adds more instructed wall. Danger just keeps ducking as he's mizzled so that energy is coming. Apparently we hate that wall. As my movement, I move back towards the door because I remember my brother telling me to keep under cover cover. Dane. Ellie will leopard something. It's aggressive. Dane drops his shield, pulls out his greatsword, and greatsword is 2x6. 15+6 is 21. Okay, I get a die 4 from him, 2x6 from... I don't know if I should be more, but I can't worry about it right the second. Just 4, 6, 8, 12. And you kill the creature in front of you with a greatsword, it's sleazy in the two. It's wheels and squirrels and dies on the blade, welded by Torm's champion. The other creature just being a large monstrosity, is going to stay in the fight. Dane, did you want to move? Yes, I did want to move towards the gap in the wall, just to see if there's any threats coming our way from deeper in this complex, so I'd go to there and maybe just make a passive perception or maybe a actual section. No, but what you see in the far room beyond this wall is a threshold and archway that looks like it's deeper into this facility, and you don't think that the radiant or the fireball energy that just passed by you and hit this firewall caused this, but you see almost like a massive round stone portal or cap, if you will, like a giant vault door. It has been damaged, it has been burned, and in fact it still seems to kind of flow with some heat from previous attacks, not just what you just saw. Right, I couldn't maybe say, I think I found the vault, or I think you guys found the vault. And then we have a thing. All right, I'm going to see if I can hit the thing. Like your hammer that you are, it's versatile, so it's die ten, you're using two hands and you need to be the thirteen. Sixteen. I think I did. All right, and rolled damage. Five. That's four. Nine. But you clunk it and it still is made. Cirth. Well they're not falling for this, I didn't even put it in the window and throw a rock at it. Just one swing. Hey, I'm a badass warrior. He's an badass rock slinger. I'm supposed to be good at sneaking in. Surprise attack. Yep. Try that sometime. Isn't it surprised? It doesn't know I'm here. You'd have to be in a position of either getting advantage or surprise over it, and I don't think you were just throwing a misled. Okay. Yes. Nice, that's it. Now you get to add plus one die forward to your sling damage. I don't think so. Oh, you're not blessed. Sorry, never mind. You suck. Careful. Not got torn. It's getting one of these. It's a nice block. Outside it does. This is it. It's going to be the damage I killed. Yeah. That's a lot of damage. Nice. From over your shoulder, a stone comes in and hits it right inside. That hurts. It hurts. Does it die? Damn, does it hurt. Barrow. Fuck. This guy, I need to replace them. Regardless, a roll total of eight. Did you like touch Bob last night in his head? Yeah. Okay. When this dead, the creature odd goes after Satan. It's even that goes after Barrow. I haven't fucking touched you, you stupid shit. That's why it figures this one slow. All right. The tentacles wrap around but miss you completely, but the bite. Very slayer. I don't know how it bites you, yeah it's tentacles miss, but that's what happens. I don't know out of the way the tentacles directly into its teeth. I'm going to fight it from the inside, I can't fucking miss you. And it bites you for seven points of damage. All right. And it shatters and tries to maneuver a little bit closer to the debris where it's stash of dead doors is and it's just kind of backing away from you now. Yeah. Payback's a bitch, Karen Carr. And after that comes Vantash. Vantash is going to use his inspiration from Torm to try this guy who can bolt again. All right. This time he will hit. I like the confidence. Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh. So this beam just completely has the sound of choirs and music as it channels through Vantash lights up the entire room and strikes the creature dead. And now because that's a natural 20 critical damage, which is basically double damage for your bolt. And you said it was four die six. So it's eight die six. Oh, you've got to roll that bitch. You're going to get five die six here. Oh wait. Jesus. I wrote three sixes. 18, 22. All right. Well, Torm's like, wait, I'm sorry, I missed the call last time, but I've got you. I've got you this time and 11 more. 33. Yes. So this beam of guiding bolt hits this creature and it just goes all right through it. Actually, not even burns a hole. It just seems to glow entirely and it just puts into dust dust months. There's a lens from this reality. You Michael says it's a mystical dim light glittering on the target until the next turn. Still. Anyone who wants to hit one thing has abandoned. Here's an after image of this creature. So you have slain this creature and the current situated. Let's see. There are stomps on it a little bit. Yeah. It is frustration. So you have killed both of them and have very loudly destroyed these creatures that were feasting on the bodies, much like alligators might do with bodies to stash them underneath logs to help tenderize them. Carrying crawlers like to collect the carrion bodies and stash them, which might account for how they are missing bodies in the courtyard. Right. And some of the dragging that you found. I'm just going to say that I think Scott's jamming style has corrupted your jamming style. Yeah. Because you never used to describe bloated bodies, deteriorating. They're all adults, but on both sexes because, you know, it's a egalitarian society. Good enough. It's agist. It's all up for some finish. So now what you see before you and Van Tesh would recognize this as a kind of what they call evolved, but it's more of an emergency panic room or bolt hole designed to hide the non-combatants of a community. And the assumption is to keep the enemy outside. Is the enemy outside? No, it was damaged and breached. Right. No, this wasn't breached. Oh, my bad. It had looked like it had it looked like somebody had been trying very hard to get into this thing. Do we get into this thing? You have that kind of into this thing. We're at the door. Do we knock on the door? No. It looks like it's been hammered at by tremendous force. It looks like it has been burned, it's scorched with fire, and it also looks like someone's tried to put more corrosive liquids on it, and it is still warm to the touch. Or hot, actually, from quick Newton's law of cooling. Oh, it's just been here. Ow. We didn't add anything to that. No. Well, not enough to hear the comfort of what you see here. Deli's trying to use your spider to send a message in there. Hey, what do you got worth living in here? I do a couple of taps on it with the hammering that sounds like we're trying to get it. It sounds very solid and like you can't open and we can hear a tap back. Yeah, he's trying to send a message through it. You do not hear a tap back. Deli, didn't you pick up a key earlier? Did you? No. You had a contraption. Somebody picked up a key. The gnomish contraption from the... Go on. Probably opens the door. What would it have to be like? No. I should open the door. It's a recording device. See? What? I was gone all right. What does it say? No. Deli's right. It's basically a hastily assembled contraption to record a message. My letter does a much better job, but this was okay. So there is no gaps whatsoever in the store? No way. The spider could have been through. His contraption couldn't have came in or out of that. They're probably sent off some lore they wanted. Is there a tune or a certain type of rap we can do that would send a message to a reward? No, I just mean. Like there is an actual anthem or something that... Door warms the door. All my song. Yeah. Rule a... Shaving hair put it. I think you should. If you have an investigative, you can use an investigative or you can do a perception. Insight. Fucking investigative. I have insight. Thank you. Oh, shut up. I actually got an investigation. I've got fucking... You've been using investigation off fucking game. Anyone who wants to do an insight that can use insight because actually there is a good point. Especially in the free. 18. 18. Any back information? It gives you a plus two. Yeah. I'll go through his proficiency. And your proficiency will go... I get a plus two and the plus two from wisdom. Okay. So I get a plus four versus your plus two which is probably the difference. It's an insight and also I want you to have, because you're oldest here. I'm out. You want to use it. No. He's older. I get a couple hundred years from my age. No. It's a bad habit of mine. I keep forgetting. I got 13. Leader but not. He's older. But actually he's the leader. That's the one. And he's the clerk. That's why I'm adding the... That is his age. I suggest to Vantash that we should perform a burial ritual and the noise, the sound of our, of our workshop will echo through this chamber and perhaps into there and get the same. I might think that's a brilliant idea. I want you to roll. Anyway, that's just what I think is a good idea. 13 and 5, 19. 19. Okay. That actually... 25. That works out for a combination of the insight of the full blooded clerk here. The knowledge that Dally encountered with the contraptions and the arcane perceptions of Kirth here all make you guys look towards the far end of this cure quarter where the door is to find a similar panel that goes on the golem. And you also find something that is reminiscent of the contraption that Dally pieced together and repaired. And you have this panel. Ah. And it's a panel of... It's a sudoku. It's your question. Yeah. It's a warfare sudoku. And it's a panel that is nine squares in a grid, different mathematical symbols between them and a row of nine orbit numbers and more lighted there. But that is the end of the feedback. So just like the point out that we are now in November, and I am seriously going to do the podcast. It's amazing. You're wrong father. Yeah, it's just that my brain was looking. I'm not even having that. You're not even having that. You're announcing the awareness of the world. Oh, I see. That's very kind of easy to prevent me from embarrassing myself with wrongness. There are tosses to flash back in because we're a swat, right? For sure, we're a swat. What do I do? You're at the window, right? Yeah. And tell me, what do you do? Do you look in the window? Do you hop through it? Do you open the door, proceed, not proceed? You washers it and ask for a tip. Yeah. Now, 100 goblins. No, you're at Starfish. It's 99. A billion coballs. You're in through. I'm sorry. No problem. You see a form moving and moving its hands and casting it. I throw my axe at the form that I just walked in it that I'm scanning. Do not shoot one another. Shit, that wasn't in the operational parameters. But with lifefully unaware, or does it not have any-- No, we're not for a dwarf. This is a dwarven-- It needs to be-- Anyway, I throw my hand out. No, it needs to be 60 long. Don't you have-- you want to-- You have advantage because you saw it. Isn't that how much works right afterwards? I know shit. I know. No. That's called a fake game. Where is 2? Skullfucker. There you go. Is that in your dodging or is it-- No. It's just-- It's just a big game. Playful. Paladin. And I don't think you're allowed to say disdain. Distain? Distain. They can't-- Oh, that dane. Distain. Check out stains really. Distain. I have couches down here. What? If you don't want to weigh on-- I mean, the floor is comfy. I mean, I get that. That's a very nice carpeting. That's as far as you got to the couches. I don't know, the teeth seem to help quite a bit. Yeah. That helped her cough real well. All right. Brought it all up. You want to see a barrel burrow? Yeah. A barrel burrow. A barrel burrow. The predator. The one. From the movies. We have one already-- You did it over in another place. That's the last battle we were in. That's the only thing. We've been in so far. You've done illusion. Yes. Okay. What? We have a vampire. Oh. That's all. Hmm. Oh. Can you keep going? [coughing] And you're all grouped together in a nice neat line for the snipers, right? Yeah, sure. Okay. Fair enough. Cobalt snipers.
