[music] Hello, and welcome the Knights of the Knight actual play podcast. This D&D 5th edition adventure, Heart of Flame, was written and run by your DM Mike. And now, please enjoy episode 245, titled "Is That How You Wake a Dwarf?" Actual play begins 8 minutes 57 seconds. [music] Alright, we're going to start the feedback this week with a pimping of a fellow podcasting group. Chris and Phil from Miss Directed Mark are part of the encoded design team and they currently have a Patreon going on for character cash. I don't know what you're talking about. You don't? Well, let me tell you, they're doing non-player characters and for each non-player character they come out with, they're asking for a donation of an amount, for instance, for $3. They plan on putting out, I believe, a character a month, maybe more, but for $3 a month, you get the character, you get artwork, you get a block of text, you get character ideas on how to use the NPC. The characters are basically like a worksheet. You make choices, answer questions on how you want them to fit into your game, then there's flexible, so there's a lot of different ideas that are built into each one of them, and you could even go so far to use it as a character if you really wanted to, rather than just a non-player character. I got to tell you this, that we've spoke before about when we played Justin, and how horrible it was to play pre-gen characters in a pre-gen adventure. When we went to the QCC, Phil ran a game for us, those are really amazing characters they designed. You're talking about part-time gods of faith? Yeah, I love those characters. If they're anything like those characters, those were awesome. Yeah, and I think that anybody out there that needs non-player characters or inspiration of any type, they would love what they're going to get from. Is it a system, a specific? That's another question. I think there's a certain level of Patreon you get to vote on what system it should be for, so you might not want to chip in a few extra bucks for each character to have the right to say. And if they get up to a certain level, and it's not just like you have to be at that level, it's the whole project is at that level. The artwork goes from line to fully colored, to fully painted, to more than one stat black, etc. So they're looking for more people to participate, so they're going to have a better product for everybody that's involved. So I will put a link both on our Facebook page, our blog sheet, and just in case you want to look it up yourself, it's patreon.com/encodeddesigns, all one word. Easy enough to find and I am definitely a member already, so give it a look. Okay, over to Facebook, episode 244, I brows grow back, Luke G posted and said, "I tend to post about halfway through because half of an episode gets me to work and then I have some time before my first class." I think you move the explanation to the end of the podcast. He's referring to spells that have a concentration component to them. Also I think that I speak Dagger and Quarterstaff, no wait, those are more weapon proficiencies would have been a good title. Because I speak Dagger one of the title choices. I mention that speak to the Quarterstaff law, the vote choices, and it didn't win. But Luke just said, "Oh, I remember that now." John C posted and said, "I've been running a D&D campaign that is entirely theater of the mind for combat and other things. So far the only problem that I've come to was when large distances were between the party and their foes, like when they're approaching a tower and an archer opens fire. Other than that, it's gone pretty smoothly." So thank you for your comments, John C. I think we're going to try that out on our next combat, so we'll see how it works out for us. Luke G posted again and said, "The hammer blow, holding the blade and using the handle as a hammer was a real thing." Note that I'm no expert. This is just what I gleaned from occasional research on stories and contact with friends who are experts. There was a brief period of time when Armor Tech was advanced well past weapon tech. However, the armor and question were exceedingly expensive and could be found in the hands of nobles. Mase's hammers and daggers, after grappling or knocking someone to the ground and finding a shink daggers, were also carried for giving mercy killing to people whose armor had been deformed and causing them to die slowly from injuries, were the main tool against heavy plate. The damage dealt by a mase to someone in a brass plate is horrendous. The force would reverberate back and forth between the plates and they apparently used to find people on the battlefield whose trust had practically been liquefied by the process. Ugh, that's kind of grisly. I'm glad I carried hammer now. There you go. Chainmail padded and most leather gave less protection than a sword, but I think that mostly being a blade of and the links being broken leather being run over the course of a fight. A blade of means it's disintegrating as kind of like a heat shield. I actually heard that with tanks where they said that a blade of armor or the shell would hit it and the armor would intentionally vaporize them. Too dispersed the energy and the force. I always thought it was very interesting that once I learned about mases and hammers from kind of playing this game and then when you research the real thing, you find out that these are actually extremely brutal weapons that would draw plenty of blood if not cause more horrific injuries than any sword. You might paint for the die, right? Why was that, that was an odd choice for clerics. Right. Right. You're a paladin. You bludgeon people to death and they die horrendously. Well, there was always the idea that in D&D, like, you know, these blunt weapons do not draw blood, blood, they just bludgeon you. And then once I saw, and like I said, that warrior's TV show where they actually demonstrate scientifically the impact that a war club or a mace would have on a flesh analog was terrifying. This sounds more like an anesthetic, you know, I use the hammer. I knock them out. It's just nice and clean. No, it's not. I also think great weapons were as much about force of the blow and sharp edges, but they were also something that developed in a brief period after full plate and before firearms. Yep, I was going to say, full plate was really, really effective until we had bullets at which point ever, I was like, fuck armor, it's not working. It's, yeah, just slows me down. And then we're going back to combat armor. Thanks for getting better. Ari Jay posted as well and said, I hope the votes from Finland are included in that 100 likes at iTunes and of course they're not. iTunes only takes me to the American one. I have to go and search him out of other places and if I had it them up, we'd have all over 100. So then I would have nothing to beg the listeners to go and do. So Ari, we're going to ignore it. It's much farther away. Once we hit 100 in America, we'll start looking from the point of view of, I don't know, 100 elsewhere there, Venezuela. We are big in New Zealand, however. So I thought anyone would be big in New Zealand. They're really starving for entertainment. Yes. So much so that they're recreating their flag, too much like Australia. Because apparently there's some will there, I don't know, competitiveness between Australia. I thought that they were all kind of, kind of like how Great Britain is actually part of. Yeah, I guess they're, you know, they don't want their flag to do that anymore. You put it right in front of the mic, really. Yeah, I always do. All right. As always I'd like to thank the Patreon subscribers for helping support the podcast as well as those who use the Amazon link which can be found on our KOTN blog. And speaking of helping the podcast and us returning to the listeners, we have to roll to see who's going to be the winner of this month's t-shirt. Okay, the winner this month would be Yvonne R is the winner of this month's t-shirt. We'll get ahold of him and get his five sayings and give his t-shirt out to him. That wraps up the feedback. We'll now go to Mike and our next episode of Dungeons and Dragons 5th edition, Heart of Flame, I believe it is, on to the adventure. This is Mike, your DM for the part of Flame campaign. Starting on my right is, Michael playing Bantish Bodeck, a hill dwarf cleric and member of the room hammer clan with experience as a dorm temple accolade, as well as a combat veteran. I am Jim playing Theoden, the room hammer clan, he is a fighter, family man and architect. Bob playing Old Gillick, a dwarven ranger and an old folk hero. My name is Tom, I play Dally, a level three steam punk sorcerer. I am a forest numb who is a refugee in this fine city of Rockfall, an adopted daughter of thorough root hammer. I am Scott playing Dane, rune hammer, scion to the rune hammer clan, third level, hill dwarf Paladin. I am Thomas playing Barrow, third level mountain dwarven fighter. We thought last names, I still haven't decided on one, sorry everybody, I'm disappointed here. For all the suggestions? I'm Rubble, so great. Like Barney Rubble. Not Rubble. Barrow Rubble. Barrow Rubble. Barrow didn't try this, Barrow Flotsam, that's the one, Flotsam. Barrow Flotsam. See, we used to be a naval power but we all died. Hey John, who are you playing? I'm John, I'm playing the Klineless, currently ward to the rune hammers. You're not in there, do well, because we do know well, and illusionists. Experience? Yes, okay, so as we recall last week, not too much happened. Action wise, because you guys cleverly avoided and circumvented some events, which was cool. So overall, everyone played solidly and they all get 150 experience. With a notable mention of Kirth, who used his magic to avert what I'd hoped would be, combat or bloodbath, but uh, signed off a dragon's roar that echoed throughout all the valley in the mountains here, and scared away the surges, and alerted everything else. It was a dragon. It was a dragon mating call, though. Right. Oh, yeah, boy. And I have inspiration both for Kirth and for Vantage. If you recall, we made it to the hunting lodge, and you guys were beginning to settle in, rest, and heal yourselves, and set a watch as night falls, and you were prepared to spend an evening out here in the mountains. We closed the door. Yes. Now you've forked my entire plan, which I can first watch. If you want to start a fire or use the hearth, you may need to go find fuel. We talked about not starting a fire. Yeah. Vantage was saying that he wanted a cold camp. He didn't want the smoke from the hearth. I was going to ask if anyone has a magic spell or item that would provide. Is it particularly cold air? As the sun has gone down and because of the elevation of where you're at, it won't get very chilly tonight. But as dwarves, you are a very sturdy, hearty folk. So no, not. As most of you, it just have to huddle in the middle of all of us. For most of you, you're kind of accustomed to life up here. So while it will be cold, most of you are hardy dwarves and you don't think it's going to be that much of a problem for tonight. Gelly, in particular, has roughed it many a times. To him, it's a luxury to even have a roof over his head. Mostly low outdoors. Right. Sure. Do you have anything that would warm up this room without smoking? Is there such a... No. Anybody? Could you do an illusion of a fire so we'd feel like the night and the night would not? Can I have one of those fake fireplaces? Oh, there's seven of us, right? I'm thinking maybe two on guard at a time. Maybe one outside. Yeah, sure. I'm happy to take first watch outside. It wasn't there a grave close to the site. There had been a recently disturbed grave, but that grave is now empty. Just doing a quick scout around the area. I guess I will also take first watch. Gelly, we'll also take first watch. When you tell me you're going to scout, can you just briefly describe, are you talking about staying within 20 yards, 50 yards, 100 yards, or do you want to kind of range a bit? How about 5.30? How about 5.30? Because I don't have a perception, it's not my strong suit. But I can be to you in a fairly short period of time with some serious fire power if you get in trouble. To be you range around and I just kind of know where you're going to be for the two hours or however long we watch for the full two hours. I just want to get a lay of this land here and see if there's any tracks that might have passed over to see if there's possibly any other graves. I don't want to micromanage, but my idea was to have a guy outside and if he hears or sees anything, he comes inside because this is a defensible position we have here. So rather than have somebody stuck outdoors and come back inside, I mean you're fine doing your thing. I might not even know about it to get the lay of the land. I can stay outside for the first time. Don't you have a communicator? I do. Don't you need two of them? If we're planning a watch, somebody might want that. Message only works for me, so I may have a communicator in which I can send a message to someone else, but it's built into my spider and it's not going anywhere, it stays near me. Just standing watch outside the cabin is going to be right outside of it. I don't think it's going to be too far away. Vantage, far be it for me to usurp your authority at all. I say it wrong. Goodbye, guys. Not smart. Do you think it's best to fall back inside a wooden structure if they might have some flames or something? I don't know that falling back inside is necessarily most defensible of the positions. If you recall, I mentioned that this wood has, over the years, basically petrified. So it's almost stuck, yeah, it's really, it would take magical fire. You estimate to strike that thought for it. I'll try to forget that. I'll try to forget what I even said. I want to take a last watch because I'm going to start scouting and looking at what mine repairs I can do in the morning and seeing as I think it's time for everybody to wake up, I'm going to start repairing, do some mine repairs. So if you're taking a last watch, that means you're first asleep. Yes. Okay. What is it you're repairing? Me too. This place. You just fixing it up, I guess. Tinkerine. I'd still want to see if there's any food available in the immediate area, maybe some mushrooms. Because part of your ability and your survival skill, you can naturally forage and what will happen is that you can spend up to an hour of performing like forage, tasks, berries, nuts, roots, small animals, traps, funny, even go that far. And what will happen is that we'll roll a skill check and based on the difficulty that I set and your success, we'll determine if you're able to, and then we'll roll the dice to see just how much food for a number of people. So if that's what you also want to do in addition to your skill. But if you're, if you're doing nothing but foraging, it'll be an hour. If you're doing scouting and foraging, then I'm going to extend it and make it longer, like almost two hours. Because you're doing, you're kind of doing each one half, half and half. You know what I mean? How long have we been here? Because I know Dali was working on her armor sets. I was working on converting armor for, yeah, you, right? So if you're in terms of a clock, you guys got here, if I recall, about five or six o'clock in the evening, you've kind of sorted, healed yourself and kind of rested, and that I think we took it to like seven or eight. It's now the sun's below the horizon tonight, so it's still kind of like, I guess we'd call that mid-evening. Right. Nine hours is called on. So okay. So I can't say I was doing that when we first arrived. If you want to set out and start to do a quick forage and scout, then for those first two hours, like from seven to nine, we'll just jump ahead and say, this is what you've been doing and we'll roll through your successes. This is your favorite terrain, correct? Yes. The mountains. Okay, so give me your, I believe it's a wisdom check that's survival. Twenty. And I also forage twice a bit of food that I normally would in my favorite terrain. Oh, okay, good. That's important to know. You are able, since this is the brain, you find enough food for like one day's worth of rations. That's just kind of a general term, but what you find is edible bar, edible plants, you find roots, you find some stashes of nuts from the animals. I'm just going to say it's mostly tremor, it's basically, but you're able to bring back in your satchel and you have enough additional food for six days' worth of rations. Six days. Well, it could be one war thing. One person takes one day's worth of rations. So you have... It's all a lie. It's all a lie. Okay. I'll take first watch. Okay. And I will be right outside the door of Antash, and I will certainly come right inside if anything, if I see anything amiss or hear anything amiss. And what's last watch? I am just too excited to sleep, and I don't know that you would trust her to watch anyways. I want her to feel a lot part of the group, so I would... Well, she's going to stay up and talk to Dan in the first watch. Well, once you dally, take a watch with me to keep me at my toes. All right. I thought you were taking first watch. Yes. With Dally. Not me. Not you. You said you were to go around and look around... Dally, have it in the two wars before. So that probably happens while Dally is doing the armor thing for Darryl. She has magic fire in her pocket. I do. I carry her on all the time. They and I will take the last watch, and the kirth and the barrel will take the middle. And I think that will give everybody the long rest that they need, including the two hours that we were here. So the night deep ends, you hear things flapping, you hear insects. This would be me and Dally in first watch. Right. Inside, even though through the thick wooden walls of the lodge, you begin to hear the raspy snores of the urban foe resting after a hard day of walking through the mountains and fighting orcs. Dally and Dang talk, she's way too excited about the whole battle. That's the first one she's ever been in. Dally and Dang whisper. Whisper. And when he walks off every once in a while to do like pretend he's impressive or something. He's not very, he do it like, I do, but I don't pretend like I'm being impressive. I'm a paladin. You are impressive. No, I'm not impressive. I'm just, I am a holy man. He's Oprah Humble. I'm Humble. Thank you. That goes in for Humble. Dally spends that time talking to like if there's any bats nearby or any small creatures of the night, raccoons or whatnot. Do you have to discover, find them or do you just have this ability? Can you tell me? Just so she can talk to this. So if there's any around, she's quiet, she's a gnome, she doesn't really. Does your voice clock cover the ultrasonic waves for bats? Yes, yes it does. She's being perceptive because she knows he can't be. Okay. So at one point in the evening, let's say this happens right around the 11 o'clock hour, which would be kind of close to the end of the first watch. The end of the first watch, Dean has gotten up to check his perimeter, make a perception role for me. Oh, just Dally? Yes. Okay. One thing I want to point out that we didn't play last week and assume you want to play is that what I'm doing, magic, since my magic is cast based, they say that you can say that I should roll a, what basically comes down to a chance dice, and if it comes up to one, it triggers something on the cast chart. That sounds fun to me, so I would suggest every time I do magic stuff, actually given the environment we are. Yes. Whenever you are using any of your magic abilities, you should always be rolling a chance. So this bright yellow dice as opposed to my pinkish dice as the chance today, or the wild dice. Just to be, just to be, no judgement. Yeah, we'll have to get real quick, it's a 5% chance. Yes, but the one with this environment is you've got to clap. Okay, I just wanted to point out this is a nice one. I understand that. The system also specifically makes note that chaos magic has this volatile uncontrollable. Yeah, but it states when the GM wants to, he can have you roll this. And I'm saying all the time, right, I'm embracing that full hearted then, full, politically hard. That was it too? It's both. They both did work. I did. Full hearted. But actually you're right, because of the conditions that I described to you earlier, there's things that are amplifying the chaos. So great. It's... I knew that. Right. Also, the other thing is that once after an 8 hour rest, I can automatically get a second dice and advantage as a word on any roll that I want. Okay. So later, and just using this now, because, what, inspiration that, which is a good thing. I rolled a 19 and my perception is a one. So that's 20. Okay. The other roll was a three. So as you're sitting in front of the lodge, Dane has moved out into the darkness to follow his perimeter path. You hear the softest of rustles in the tree taps above you. Usually these creatures are completely silent, but you are able to sense it and you see what looks like a large owl, softly light upon a branch in the tree above you. It is a large owl that is black wings, black feathers, and just a very bright and silvery yellow eye is coming and catching what little starlight there is in the sky right now, because it was kind of overcast, but you can see the animal clearly. And it sits there and it regards you to staring at you with those big owl eyes. Is it acting unusual on any way? These creatures are extremely stealthy at night and he's just sitting there and he's kind of doing his little head bob and it moves back and forth the way owls do, but he's focused upon you. He or she? No, you know it's a heat. You know it's a heat. Mr. Owl. Not Mr. Squirrel. It's Mr. Owl. She, look all sort of spider, you know, whispers and it comes up to her shoulder and she has a little thing that she can press that sends a message. She's got this little tiny satellite dish that points towards where I think Dane is and I whisk her into it. This is basically a message which I don't need a line of sight, it goes right through buildings. Is it a spell or is it a natural ability for you? It's a spell. It's a cadret. Right. Zero glass. I'm not going to make you can't trip so too low level to induce the chaos magic, so that's an exception. I mutter, I don't know what the fuck that means under my breath and I turn around and start walking back to her. All right. But as Dane, Dane, you're looking, it's relatively quiet. Could Dane please give me a perception check for... Seventeen. Seventeen. Seventeen. I run up 15, I get plus two because of my wisdom, four or seventeen. Everything seems to be fairly still as you round your perimeter, you do not detect anything or nothing catches your interest other than the message that you just received from down. To be fair, I take the shortest route back to her. I don't complete a full circle if it would be more delicious to get back to her. Are you rushing her rush? I'm still trying to be quiet. And Al is looking at her in a tree that sounds to me, you know, it borderline could be suspicious, but it also could be an Al looking at her in a tree. So no, I'm not rushing back. I am walking with intent, but still paying attention to my surroundings. Okay. If that's fair. I'm getting in a staring contest with the Al. Dally's just staring at it, so you know it will blink first. Can you talk to it? I wish I can, who blinks first? I roll the 16 plus my, uh, clearly wall power. Yeah, clearly. Well, what the hell is a wall power? There's no wall power. There's no wall power. I'm making a constitution. God damn it. It's a physicality. It's plus one, so I just have a team. The owls eyes blink very slowly and go blink and I whisper up into it in Ali's. Ha ha. I win. Mr. Al. And close out your eyes. In. And you'll never blink again, bitch. And in the common tongue, the owl says hello. Oh shit. I say in a little communicator over today. Now I rush back. So it kind of looks over your shoulder in the direction that you begin to hear, rumbling and solid steps of Dane coming through the trees out into the clearing in front of the lodge. So now Dane and you learn common, Mr. Al. So the owl seems to shift its gaze from you to the thundering dwarf to the dwarf and back. And to you, it says hello, but it says it in Dwarvish. Good evening. Sir. He doesn't know how. Just good evening, Sir Al. Pleasant. Pleasant evening. Even though you come here's a here's another interesting point. Yeah, because the talking owl is not interested in that. Dally being a gnome recognizes that this is a male owl. Yes. Right. The voice you are hearing is feminine. I do say good evening to the owl. It nods its head all as well in this fine evening. Is there anything that we may help you with in this fine evening or you just come by to say hello. It seems to turn its head, blink a little. It kind of shakes its body and ruffles its feathers a little bit before they settle down. And then very politely asks, why are you here? We are scouting the wild woodlands for orcs in order to alleviate some of the raping and pillaging that they're doing across the countryside. So we came down from our town of Rockfall to hopefully lend some law and helpfulness to the surrounding area. The owl ponders that for a moment and says, that is good. We're good people. What brings you to this perch this evening? Just curious? The owl looks at you both and then says, you. Someone informs you that we were here? Or did we just as dwarven kind can and the gnomes as well? It would make so much noise in the woods that we just aroused your curiosity. Dally, it's a cost of that a bit. She's much quieter than you are. Nice to know. So the owl, again, kind of ruffles its feathers as if it's getting a little bit agitated, a little bit sitting in one spot for too long. But then it settles and looks to you. You notice that the head swivels to the south briefly and then looks back at you. And it says, I think we will meet soon. Didn't we just meet again? We mean to get. Yes. Again, it's a feminine voice speaking. Right. A feminine voice speaking. Both common and dwarven. It was common. It started when it was talking to Dally, it was speaking in common when Dane was talking to it that speaks in dwarf. But regardless of which-- Oh, you know what? That's actually-- I'm sorry. Thank you. You raised a good point. The dwarven that she's speaking is accented and it's an accent that I don't think you've ever heard before. But languages do you know much? I know dwarven and common just. Okay. Well, insight helped me at all or not in this instance. Well, insight might help. As Dally is your observing this, you know the beak isn't moving in turn with the language. So while the voice is definitely coming from the owl, you can see that the animal is not. It's as if the owl has been hijacked and someone is speaking through it. At least from Dane's point of view is how Dane is perceiving it. He's perceiving this as a messenger, not a talking owl, but a messenger from someone else who has hijacked this poor creature but is still being polite because it's being polite to us and doesn't see a reason to cause anything. Ask the owl in owl language. Is she hurting you, Mr. Owl? Are you okay? The owl turns back to you and in the feminine voice says, "You are very kind of considered it." That's a good sign. She said, "So my second comment is in common." But that's not an answer. Yeah. Which apparently we're not going to get with. Insights, you just let that, we're going to pass it up for right now. I'm just trying to think of how it would work right now. It doesn't work. Don't let it work. I don't think it would apply. I try to remember the tone of the accent that when I speak with Old Gillig later, I could try to, because I think he's the one who knows the most languages, or the group in general, I can then kind of say, "You hear a British accent or a French accent and if you don't know what the accent is, you can still try to replicate it." You can certainly mimic the accent later. That's all I ask. Okay. And then it spreads its wings and says, "Yes, I think we will meet soon." We look forward to it. Guard yourselves well. And then it flies off into the night. That was fairly strange. You didn't leave me at first, did you? No, I believed you. I just didn't know what it meant. Well, you know what? We're pretty close to, it looks like Rise of the Moon. It looks like it's pretty close to the end of our... So we're at the end of the first watch. The second watch is now alerted as to what happened on the first watch. It was going to be on the second watch. We have Barrow and Kurt. Is that true? Yes. Yeah, but it was decided on obviously, so I got woken up. So you're trying to watch? I don't know. You're going to say that. I do. Dally is going to wait for Dane to explain what happened, because you guys aren't going to believe Dally if she said it. So I do explain what happened to Barrow and to Kurt, and it's like explaining to them what happened. That we... Dally was visited by an owl who seemed to be being controlled. Seemed to be being controlled by some outside power, and it spoke common and dwarfish, but not as if it just opened its beak and the words would flow out, but seemed to appreciate what we were trying to do, which was I said we were trying to protect the surrounding area and rid of orcs and other foul evil creatures, which isn't entirely untrue. I didn't want to give our specific mission, because it's a fucking owl talking to us in a tree, and I have no idea what his purpose is. Dally was so going to say that. Kurt, you're going to tell her about the farm? All right. So I just want you to be on the lookout for that if it comes back. It didn't seem to be any threat, but anything that knows of our location. And our existence. Yeah. And it's just our location. Could be dangerous, but it didn't strike us as such. It could have certainly feigned it well, and that was the case. I would know what languages you guys speak, unless you don't want me to know. Yeah. It's okay. I just figured from knowing... I don't think there's any special languages. I know common dwarfish and thieves can't. Right. The thieves can't. But I don't think they advertise the fact you knew thieves can't. No, probably not. And what's yours? I just know common and dwarfish. Okay. Same here. So I would know that the accent thing wouldn't matter for these. I'm going to let the other guys sleep. Yeah. If you need them around a while, I'm going to recognize the accent. Okay. And I live in Dormat. I'll try to give them the example of the accent. Dormat. Dormat. Dormat. That's maybe a slant of Dormat. That's a Dormat. That's what the refugees call it. Dad, do you want us to roll inside on the accent, too, no? Barrow, you're one of the older dwarves, right? I'm 120. Barrow's been around slightly longer than the dragons, but a problem. So this would be an intelligence roll because you're trying to remember. So why don't you give me a straight up intelligence ability check? Sure. Is it possible to roll a history? I've started a bit. Yes. Okay, I'll be doing that. If you have any, if you have history, too... I don't have any additional pluses, but I'll do a history. Stop praying and sexing. I don't know if you can really read about an accent. Okay. Feel that. I'm going to roll. Roll a total of 19 because they're all the straight 18 plus one intelligence. Sure. If you don't need to reveal what you know or don't know because based on Danes' imitation of the accent, Barrow believes that sounds like an elven accent. S.L. Wizard or Druid or something? Yes. I mean, my guess was that it was a druid that had taken control of this elb and an elf would make even more sense, but we haven't seen elfs around for quite some time, have we not? No. I asked Gillard what he wakes up. You know what? He's... No, he's sleeping. He's laughing. He's laughing. I only know if we're going to wake him up. I think it's Vantage and Fade and his last watch. We just let old Gillard sleep. So, your watch, Bill. A lot of you watch. Yeah, you and me, Chris, we are going to watch the fucking camp. Barrow and Kirth, you begin your watch and I would say about 15 or 30 minutes into your watch, Thaden and Gillard are deep asleep. A Vantage was also sleeping and Dane came in and after you guys had your pad talking about what you do witnessed and after Dane had explained and briefed the other dwarves. Dane seems to drop off to sleep very rapidly. Just clunk, just crashes onto the floor and you don't think anything of it, but then you start to notice that Dane starts to kind of twitch and thrash a bit in his sleep and then you start to just think he's just not having a bad dream, just having a bad dream, but then you also notice that Vantage also seems to be deep asleep, but under some kind of duress and both the Paladin and the Cleric are the ones that are having this episode. So when you see this, everyone else is asleep, you're the one who's still awake. One of the first things I would do is check Gillard because as far as I know, we have three healers. He's the third one. My thought is that type of magic might be related, so if I see them both sleeping strangely, I would check to see if Gillard is as Gillard seems to be sleeping normally, snoring as an old dwarf goddess. I'm also a worshipper of Torm, so you can wake up Gillard if you want. He seems to be sleeping normally, so if you, yeah, if these two outside are already awake, I might want to leave these guys sleeping just a little bit until I go find them and express my concern. We're doing. So both Dean and Vantage. So I find, when I open the door, who's the closest to the door, I don't want to start all of them because one of them will kill me, I know that. I'm going to open the door and I'll look inside. Everything okay out there? Not in here. The two priestly folks, Dane and Vantage, seem to be doing an awful lot of twitching in their dreams. Okay. Wake them up. I thought you weren't supposed to do that. Would you hear that? I read it. I wrote it down then. I read it. Okay, so I'll wake them up. So I'll go inside. So crew. Yeah, wake up him. I point to the cleric because I don't want him waking my brother. I don't know if he's going to cause any damage. And by the way, I told you that's the reason you said, "I don't want him somewhere here." No. Wake up him. He's the leader. Two nasty looking switches here, but I'm not going to be the first. Barrow comes back around from a cycle of the tent and he's like, "Fuck, where'd Karth go?" Okay. Karth you inside? Nice. Well, the situation is, as I've described, Thaden and Gellard seem to be sleeping deeply, but normally, and Dain, and then Tash seem to be thrashing and just sleeping very uncomfortably. Are they thrashing in unison? Dali tries to tell if they're... I mean, they seem to be... What experience? What experience? Dance moves going on. Is it synchronized thrashing? That's all. That's all. Right here. Several four. All right. I grabbed the boss by the beard. Shake him a bit. Is that how you wake up to work? That's how I wake up to work. Well, it seems very dangerous and disrespectful. It does not yield any result and Vantesh does not seem to wake. I really thought that'd work. I opened his eyes. They are rolled up into his head and experiencing rapid eye movement type of thing. Now, while you guys are thinking about this, we're going to briefly go into the dream state of Dain and Vantesh. You both don't know each other or are sharing the same experience, but it's the same experience, so I'm just going to describe it. You feel scared. You feel frightened. You feel a tremendous sense of urgency. It is a pitch dark, which you really find. Are we together or are we separate in our minds? You are separate in your minds. Okay. And you are not aware of each other. Right. But we're having the same experience. We don't know that. All right. Got it. And right now it's pitch black, which for you being a dwarf is a very, because you're used to being in the mind chaps and the caverns and the darkness and having dark sights. So there's always something to see and the fact that you can't, you find very, very disturbing. You hear what sounds like the shuddering impact as if something is hammering against a thick stone wall on the far side and near on the inside. Right. And something seems to be hammering, trying to get into where you are. Actually, can each of you give me a perception role? I roll the 12, which is +2, 14, but my passive is 12. It's either 12 or 14, depending on how you're taking it. 22. With each shuddering impact muffled by the stone, somehow you know that you're inside stone or you're somehow inside stone walls. You sense fear, you sense possibly the whippering of other dwarves or well, that's, that's why it's even more disconcerting, that's why it's even more disconcerting. It's, um, you also hear what you realize are desperate prayers. We have whispered in the dark, um, to, in warfish? Yes. To torn? Yes. And you feel just, you've been here for too long, and normally, dwarves don't feel claustrophobia, or I feel like you've been here too long, the air is stale, it's running out. And there's nothing, I can't, I can't light a flame, I have none of my belongings, it's, you know, it's a dream, so we just like, close normally, are we wearing armor and swords, are we, are there anything I can do? You don't, in this dream state, you don't perceive your armor or your weapons, but separate from the fear and the desperation and this, this throbbing impact and the heat, the growing heat and the, the, the staleness of the air in this tight enclosed space. You also just have this growing sense of urgency and desperation. It's just, it's cloying and it's choking you and it's filling you and causing you to thrash around you and see that these are the things that you were experiencing. Right. So we can't do a spell or, or it's just, we're, we're dreaming and this is what we're seeing. Well tell me what you wanted to try and do. Wake up. The end dreams spell? Yeah, I mean that's like, I want to wake up. So like for example, are you going to try and do something in this room, you hear voices around you, but you don't see them? Well I'm going to call out. Who's there? Are, are you in need of help? I'm a, I'm a paladin of Torm. Things like that to try to, not only just to try to reach out to them, but to study myself. Whenever I hear Torm, the word, it just infuses me with strength and light and goodness. Right. And if there's no immediate response, I'll start muttering a prayer to Torm. When you speak, the voices that you hear, which always seem just at the, the edge of hearing, it's kind of hard to pick out individual voices, but you do sense that there's many voices and you hear male voices and female voices, all dwarven and they kind of stop and then they, when you speak, they kind of start up again more urgently and, and the prayers become almost pleased for help and desperate help. And if I can, I'm going to try to do a, a spell and see if I can't do a simple spell then maybe I'll know I'm dreaming, and it'll snap me out of it. Light. Cause let that be like, right. Now outside, I'm going back into the lodge for now. You see, Dane and Vantesh distressed, unable to wake up, you hear them muttering under their breath, but you don't quite hear what they're trying to say. They seem to be frightened or they seem to be concerned and they, or they seem to be trying to do something but can't. And the hairs on Dally's arms and back Renek stand up when she realizes that Vantesh is starting to use magic in his sleep. It comes with fireball. Even gelling, even gelling and they kind of start to wake up and they're like, what's going on? Can I tell what spell he's attempting to do? Do you have knowledge or can I? I do. Do you have knowledge religion? I do. Then you can try to do a knowledge religion check. Or is there a knowledge spell craft? Do they have that anymore? No. Okay. And then I would go with knowledge religion. I like spell craft, I always thought that was a cool skill. There isn't, well, there's a religion out, right? Which is an intelligence role. And I will do that. Alright. Five. Total. No, you don't know what it's spelled but it is something, it's an all night one. I don't know. It's not really pink dice. Pink dice? But as Vantesch seems to be working some kind of magic and that's when both Dane and Vantesch awake to bolt upright gasping for air, looking around and trying to draw a sword, you know, like, how long do you want to react? If Dane would have been casting the spell, I would have jumped on his arm and stopped him. But as far as I know, Vantesch only has healing spells. That's all I've ever seen him do. I wasn't worried. So you guys awake, bolt upright, you're wide awake, you're both looking around wild-eyed and checking in, you are among your comrades, you're in the live, you can see again and whatever you've heard fades away. Mm. Is that your brother? The worst. So I see people pay attention to both myself and Vantesch. So I guess we would briefly compare notes. I discovered that we were going through a similar experience. Yes. You realize that you both are having an identical experience and even though the voices are gone, the darkness is gone, the fear is gone, you still feel deep in your bones a profound sense of urgency. Do you think this is a call to the farmstead? Yes. I think we should just go now. So six hours have been done. Yeah, if I'm goofing up the time frame, that's my fault. But my point is it was supposed to be at the end of your year long run. Maybe through some kind of divine intervention they found deeper support in their troubled dreams. That's a good point. And actually, that's actually pretty profound because, uh, for an old fucking door to you, both Vantesch and Dane, I think, suspect that, because you said it as much, that this might actually have been a, uh, a divine communication of some sort. So we get everybody up and moving. Yes. Yeah, I forego the, uh, the repairs that we're going to do in say, let's go, let's go. We got a long run. Yeah, uh, to hear. So some people would get some healing if they need it. You should have your full hit points and you should have your hit dice restored. One hit dice restored, although I didn't, I didn't spend any, so it stays at three for me. Vantesch, you know, give your orders. Given the, uh, coincidental dreams, Dane, that I've had, we need to move quickly. And that means, uh, eating on the run, don't we try to do it for as much as we can? How far away are we? Eight hours. You were still? Mm-hmm. Didn't move all your sleeping. Uh, still time to go, I'm trained. But the jelly does have the ability, I think, if you're leading and pathfinding for a group that you, you can speed that up, right? Yeah. Sure. Is that right? Yeah. I fact we're there. Difficult terrain doesn't slow your group's travel. That's about it. So if it is difficult terrain, right, no problem. Same marching order. Right. Morning prayers as we're prepping to, uh, storm for those who are interested. Right. Let's double time to the farm stud. I discussed quickly just truth want, Dally, to, uh, make him a set of this special armor. No. I thought we discussed you getting rid of that raggedy leather stuff you had smelly. Yeah. And it doesn't work very well. It's got a bunch of holes in it. Okay. Mostly spears. I'll think about it. Hey, do we, uh, figure out that the Great X you had this magic run out? It was empowered with magic. I should believe I'm carrying it, but I don't have to because I have my own magic weapon. I don't have one. That's the Dwarven axe right now. An orcish. No. Right. These works, yeah. Yeah. These works like to use posters, Dwarven armor and weapons as trophies to prove their ability. They have their legs off at the knee and they just waddle around like us. It's really creepy. We'd say it in like the magical Great X. Yeah. It's yours. And also if you remember, Dally has the ability to transfer that enchantment to. So if you have a preferred weapon. I mean, that has preferred weapons to hammer that this thing, but. I can't do it right now. Yeah. It can make your hammer stop. But I also have a new symbol. It's a gear. It's a spider, spider in the center of it. And it's like when you press on the spider, the gear on the outside rotates. It's kind of neat. Cool. Okay. This last night. No. It was voted by the fans. They put that one faster. Cool. That's actually pretty cool. All right. Sky to the east is beginning to lighten. It is cold. The miss of the morning, which would be high clouds anywhere else, seemed to kind of weave between the trees to kind of make all the sounds a little bit dull and quiet in the morning. I'm pushing the pace as much as possible. Right. Actually jogging. You know, some of us aren't whining. I figured we're not going fast enough. Well, fortunately, most of the way that you have to take does follow the road that connects rock fall with the terrace farms. And it is mostly downhill. So, Gallag feels that you can make actually pretty good time. Yeah. It is keeping an eye out for any squirrels that speak with a alfish accent. Or any animals, really, with any action. We've got to tell Gilag about that because we all got wrapped up in living so early. And those dreams. Yeah. On the march. I tell Gilag about the fucking journey, lady. You guys begin your forced march, your speed march, and you are trooping the cadence in your... Are you wearing armor in your armor and your weapons, correct? Yes. You're preparing for battle. Right. Much as I own armor. Yeah. So, you know, Gallag and actually, you know, Thaden and Burrow all naturally fall into the mile-eating cadence of long foot travel. This comes in second nature to them because they've been in their soldiers. They march everywhere. We've walked all over this place. Yeah. How do you feel about being a city or how do you feel about a long march? I was really hoping for the golems. Yeah. I know. I mentioned them a dozen times. That doesn't seem to be good. Do go on. Well, we've got to fucking pick them up. Someone needs to grumble. I've been grumbling. I was counting. I knew to be first. Okay. So, I am going to say that Adventitious Order, Gallag is setting a very difficult pace. And I would like everyone to give me, like at the midday, a constitution check to see how well they are keeping up with the pace. But is he strength or constitution strength? I thought athletics is strength, but I think you can go with either one. I mean, I'll tell you what, whichever one is favorable to you, you can use. So whichever one's higher? Thirteen. Yeah. I'm going to hurry up. Hurry up. Hurry up. Six. Hold on. Seven. No, I'm six. I skip for about an hour. And then I'm going like, "If you're just hard, what are you getting at?" So they do, like, drag at your feet, everyone's like, "Ugh." You guys. Wait, wait, wait. I wonder if you were a drug role. Three. [LAUGHTER] They'll drink a lot. No, he rolls the two. I'm old. This is the shittiest, this level speed march I've ever seen. It's like the baton death march. It is pushing the cripples and old men with a stick. Yeah, I think I slowed down the pace a little bit, to a more reasonable level. At all the twenty-two, I'm pushing everybody all the way down. [LAUGHTER] Thanks a lot. I don't get a heady. Okay. Barrow rolled a total of ten, so he's not bad compared to other people. He's still not rolling. David rolled a thirteen. Thank you. That's right. I'm sorry. I apologize. In curth you had a natural twenty. A twenty. A twenty. Really? A twenty-one. And you're winding? Well, he's about the case he's like running back where it's like, the one you want to roll. Y'all are. I've been running all my life. The shittiest. Yeah. And then, gutter's snipe dwarf apparently has no problem whatsoever. All the hardened campaigners, apparently, are, what they're also worrying about. What are you gonna do? It's a duck. They're worrying the heaviest armor. He's worrying. He's wearing an elf armor. Yeah. So, they are all, and the pace isn't, when you get to midday, you're not really happy with the pace that you've been keeping. That sense of urgency is still present with a dain and van tach. So it just kind of lingers like a, like a bad room that just won't disappear. So you still, well, well, you don't feel the fear, you don't hear the voices. And everyone, as you come to midday, you've been running along the road, heading mostly downhill. The woods are thinning a little bit, and you know that in the distance, you can begin to see, even though it's still kind of cloudy, you know, generally, the direction of where the terrace farms installation is. And it's still very hazy with all the clouds, kind of hanging low up here in the mountains. But amongst the white of the mists and clouds, you also can see in the distance. What it looks to be, black clouds, smoke. It could be smoke. It could be just your hair covering your rain clouds. And you're kind of coming to a, a level area, kind of like a part of a plateau. And this plateau area is cross-hatched with kind of deep gullies or what they call them, the files. You know, just kind of where crevices and gaps and the terrain has been kind of broken up a bit, except for where the dwarves had built this road, and even through the centuries, the road, when stores built something, it stays. But I would like to get a perception check from everyone right now. That's my payback for being so good at running. What terrain are we in? So mountain? Ah, yes. You're still in mountains terrain. Pick the good favorite terrain. Well, they're dwarves. Right. 5, 4, 8, 11, 4, Dane, 12, 4, Gailie. Okay. 17 for Dali. Barrow, 23. Oh! How much fun is that? As you guys are moving along, Barrow gives the halt sign, and then he cups a hand to his ear, giving him the signal to be quiet and listen at the same time. And what Barrow, what you hear, and what no one else except for Dali, you hear, it almost sounds like a boulder rolling down a mountain side, but you don't see anything like that. It's a heavy sound, and it's a sound of stone on stone, and you hear a lot of kind of grinding and loose gravel and stuff. I got six dwarves here. You guys can't tell me what this noise is. Oh, cool. Who really picked it out of the... And I don't exactly work in the mines all day. Spend a lot of time in these hills, killing ore. You have a very clear direction and distance to it, and it's off the road. And it's not very far off the road, actually, but it's in a part of the road that passes over a narrow defile that seems to fall away from the road. And it's like a little gully along the side of the road. A big rolling boulder sound in a pit. Well, clearly needs to be checked out, I'm just thinking. I thought we had a goal. This doesn't sound like something that can be left alone if it sounds dangerous. I think we should check it out, Vantash. Great, so. Rolling boulder. And the small detachment reports back, or everyone goes, "Everyone. It's not far, right?" No, it's not far at all. And in fact, once Barrow tells you to stop and listen, you guys are all surprised that because you were so focused and intent on getting to the south, that you're surprised that you didn't even perceive this sound because now that you're listening to it, you hear the same sound. It's stone and stone grinding, you hear the loose gravel being dug up. It doesn't sound like anything that I've ever experienced. It's the golden stone, and it's just a metal on stone, wood on stone, it's stone on stone. This be a natural occurrence, I mean sometimes there's small avalanches and rocks tumbling from the mountains, but. Right. And usually a rock fall or a rock slide goes from point A to point B. So everyone raised their hands and everyone said that they are going to peer over the side of the gully and see what they can see. Yeah. Oh, fuck that old. Dally out over the tough up pole. What? No, you're not. That sounds pretty good. We don't. We just run over. Yeah, we'll run over. So you guys line up. You look over and what you see will be revealed next week. Oh, it's so close. Yeah, why are we waiting for Scott to return? Fuck that. Do we need to? Because we have to go around the table. Oh, yeah. So we need Scott. He's like one of the last ones. Wait, give me a last night. That's good. I can't come up with a good dwarf last night. Kind of in the middle. But yeah. All fine. No, that's Scandinavian. Never fizz? No. That's one of the biggest ones. Yeah, that's the crowd I could fill it up with. All the good ones that are in the pocket. Fuck bucket. Where are all fuck bucket? Think of things that deal with the dwarven culture, you know, crafting, forging, buff chest. She says it's buff chest. She says it's a buff chest. She says it's a buff chest. Wait a minute. I can't remember. Something buff chest. Huge large balance. I think she's your breeder. True silver. True silver. That is very good. That's his horse. That's his horse horn name. That is terrifying. Whoa. Worphin porn. Worphin porn. Worphin porn? What the ladies call me. Sure. What's that? He's a gat of twarmen. A gat of twarmen. A gat of twar. Rock for her. Rock for her. Fuck her. Fuck her. I want to find that video now. The rock for her. I don't even know what video. That conversation reminded you of his brother, so you might not be a man. I'm an adult. You couldn't if you wanted to. The theories are out of me. Yeah, you could. Ooh. How about Flintstone? Flintstone. Me? Daphne Staunce. It was, uh, shit. Tharrow rubble. I saw a commercial featuring the Flintstones where Barney had like some cigarettes. Yeah. Oh yeah. He used to do, uh, yeah. He wants some of this. And he's poking cigars. Yeah. Joe Cameron. Ooh, how about just Frack? Frack and Bruno Frack. Look at this negative kind of thing. Wow. For people outside of this universe. Frack is a legitimate working industry that, you know, extracts oil in ore from the shale. I've only heard of Frack recently, I don't know. We're in the drinking water. This is the hell off the Orcs and goblins of the area. Who cares about that? Frack. Frack bucket. The Monster Manual says they're evil, so we can, we can oppress them all we want. Everyone should have a minimum of 150 experience from last time. I love it. A bonus to, of a hundred experience to... Hey, trumpet boy. Butchef it. We are recording. What? No, we're not. Well, not now. We usually go around the table and shit. This is pretty. Yeah, well. So he is. Someone was missing. I think I'm late. Sorry. Do you have enough drugs for everyone? It was Mystery Science Theater. It was Space Beatingy when they made up all those names. Oh, yeah, actually. The main character. I just watched that. I was trying to remember which episode it was because I want to look at the video but it's too late now. It's a hundred extra points? Well, we have to do it sometime where there's no boy over here. What? Everyone with your chemistry. I like it. I'm inspired by my dressing character. I like it. Damn it. That's a hard one. But when you set up all your noises until we get here. Or you just noticed how they look. He's sat in his room. I think you're going to eat into that. What? As your brother, yeah. Yeah, that's what I do. Do you have any sedative? No. He's got to be at least one sedative in there. Oh, dude. I asked one. Really good. Really shitty. Let's move. What do you think? Ten. All right, let's go. People are waiting for you. On a six. Two days. I like the old in front of Gilligan. So he's old. He's old. It's an old twice. Good luck editing that. Yeah. Well, that's what I do. I would like to put out there for the listeners that we are going to start a competition on whether Thomas's character gets a last name before Jim ever finalizes his character. You know, we'll take bets from him. I'm a little on. That's a good one. [Laughs] Dwarf number nine. How about that? I don't know. I don't know. Think of the last name. That's nice for me. Yeah. Well, you're quite a big nine. All right. That's by the least white house artist. Chris, that's better. I'm going to go real play on the couch. I don't know. No, Daley will probably be able to figure out how to do it now, but having the facilities to actually make the repairs you might need, I think every talk about this before. I think I already rolled in and succeeded last week unless you want to change that. No. I didn't want to change it. I can just try and remember. She has a toolkit. That's what it looks like. Yeah. Yeah. I think she has a very good experience around. Oh, yeah. That's right. For magic items. She doesn't really have one other than that. Right. Okay. Although everything is magical about her. So I'm not going to make you have to have a fire, even though that would have been a good idea. Okay. Nevermind. Oh, cool. That is the coolest clockwork dragon I've ever seen. It made out of real clockwork, clock parts. I posted it and I didn't know how many of you saw it. I didn't be very much what it looks like. I did not. See that. More sculpture than functioning. Still. It's impressive. I'm just wondering. It was a funny one. Did you learn common, Mr. Howell? And I'm not going to ask about the lollipop. Don't leave it. So he takes a shot at it, jabbing out. Wasn't he my jab? Heart seeker. Heart seeker. Slayer about it. Slayer friendly out. It's like a funnel. The spider is like, I'll zoom in. I have a good tone. I have a lot. I'm going to take a shot. Just a quick aside. Did anybody see it in the fan page where someone posted a comic? They said every time you say rock fall, it reminds them of a comic that was about where a GM was playing one of the players fucked over the adventure really bad. She just rock falls, everybody dies. That's it. She goes, no, no. But see, it's my character. My character would do that. Rock falls, everybody dies. That's what was the end of the adventure. We always said that big blue bolts of lightning came down from the sky and toast to you. That was our sign of displeasure. End of the adventure. He's going to wake up about it any soon anyway. Yeah, like four in the morning. Branch lamp! I'll check if Gillard knows any low bow elves or recognizes this. This MO is not a word the door views, but that's what I'm thinking of. When Dally comes to the door and... Go back to bed. It originally asks Barrow and Kirth to come inside. Something is wrong with Dane and Vantash. Now, I'm going to jump back a little bit to what was happening. And this is before you've gone out to get them. I'm sorry. I did. Yeah, you did. Well, I'm sorry. Tell me what you're doing. Sorry, Mike. It's a strange message. Hey, what you got that's worth living for. So now we transition. There you are. The heart transition. Yeah, I want the wavy line. It's not the wavy lines in the wains world. That was what it sounded like. That's dungeon world. Well, DM says you make things go faster. The answer is yes. That's what I hate spiders. The clockwork squirre is not real. The clockwork squirre is scarier. Yeah. Let me see. It's gonna be gone wrong. That is all found around. Okay, nobody's going to say anything about Barrow or old. Barrow. It's not a pun. Because maybe there's some augmented little thing kind of cupped up around her here from her helmet. They have a helmet? No. Whatever it is. I don't know what she has. I know. I have an image of what she has. She has a pig here. She does. You know. I would imagine that your spider sits on your head like a tiara until a shoulder. Oh, shoulder? She has to do shoulder because of the eye. Oh, that's right. It's like the term of the R. I can't hold down. That would be good for stealth. I don't want nothing from the bottom of the spider dangling into my face. It's on my shoulder. It clicks into place. Okay.
