[Music] Hello and welcome to Knights of the Night Actual Play Podcast, this world of darkness story. The sin-eater was written and run by your storyteller staff. And now please enjoy episode 226 titled, "Oh, but I do mind." Actual play begins after this short message. [Music] Just a quick aside, I wanted to jump in here and let you know, we haven't recorded recently, so I haven't been able to do feedback. But I wanted to make everyone aware that RPG Gamer Dad has an episode coming out, episode 33, in which he interviews Scott and I on our podcast, World of Darkness, fate and other issues. This is the world of darkness story the sin-eater. I am the storyteller Scott, and with me tonight on my right is Michael playing Ethan Clark, a member of Aegis Kaiduro since 1929. Tom playing Jay Alton, a member of his sending ones and leader of Task Force Siren. I am Jim playing Katie O'Connor, who is a crazy driving nun person. Actually, you're a disincorporating person. Was a floating head. Yes, thank you, that's what I was going for, but yeah. The bodyless ghostly head. Mike playing Michael Clay, the academic adventurer from Aegis Kaiduro. Bob playing FBI Special Agent Chew Park, a member of the Basky conspiracy. Thomas playing Edgarden Mann. Tastes a voodooing practitioner and a member of the Lamestrai conspiracy. John playing Daniel Morgan, a mountain man turned mercenary, next member of Task Force Valkyrie. Ghost is falling apart. Rachel playing Silver Bell? No real title, no real rank, and no real respect. What was that? Whoa. Sweet. I'll give you some bad respect if we don't all die. All right, we left off last week with most of Task Force Siren back in 2011. Seemingly, some more modern sense of Cleveland. Unfortunately, they were in a sense in gaming terms. They were in Twilight, which is the gaming term for that state of being between, but that ghost can be in, and that's pretty much where you are right now. You're in a state of Twilight to metagame for a moment. You then traveled to the castle on Franklin Circle and were met by three incredibly frightening ghost children by the name of Hannah, Ruthie, and Theodore, I think, for the three of them. Back in 1935, we have the odd couple of Dr. Clay and Silver Bell at the same home, the castle in Franklin Circle in Ohio City. I think they just pulled up, not mistaken, you pulled right into the driveway, because time was of an essence, according to Silver Bell. And that's where we left it. So let's go around the table really quick and talk about aspirations, and the ones we might have successfully completed to get a beat. Everyone, I think, received two beats from last week, and if anyone needs to spend experience for any reason, please let me know. Ethan hasn't done shit. Yes, I had one that should figure out where we are. Well, I don't know if I've done that. Yeah, I think you've had a pretty good feel that you're in a modern day sense of Cleveland, so I'm comfortable with that being answered. I changed that to The United Squad. I have returned to Solid Form, most are probably close to the same thing. And a long range of, I have a plan of attack. All right. Sister Katie. The head of Sister Katie. Sister's Katie's head would like to stop when I have wings still. So it hasn't changed. Everything else hasn't changed either. Could come to chatter me in one of these days, maybe, or the white bishop, and have the dog with something is full, which isn't going to happen on that now. No. But, maybe something soon. Mr. Duck, would mine really have been changed from last time either? All right, Mr. Park. If I haven't changed. Mr. Mine Tastes? Yeah, I'd have escaped from this new bullshit. I'd get some rest before the next whatever excursion is what I have written down. Nice. Yeah, I think I said whatever, and somebody said change into excursion. I think rest should be on everybody's at this point. Yeah, yeah, pretty much. Sleep. I don't have a long term. Okay, then. That's a lot of character. Especially, good idea. Mr. Morgan, everything the same? Yeah, let's get something done this time. Excellent. Is that it? Is that it? And? I'm saying. Same for... This is Silverbell. Okay. We'll pick it up with Silverbell and Dr. Clay in the driveway of Franklin Castle, which it is the sun is rising over 1935 Cleveland. It's about 55 quarter after in the morning. So it's very early. Birds are chirping. Sun hasn't quite risen yet, actually. But you're getting that pre dawn glow. Is it the night starting to lighten a bit? And the two of you have spent the last 15 minutes arguing, and yet also accomplishing what you need to accomplish, which was to get to the castle. I believe Silverbell has expressed everything that she believes she knows at this point, which is to say you need to get there and you need to get to the gate. She has all the information. I will follow her lead. I have my weapon cocked and loaded. And I will follow her lead. I'm going to try when I tried last time. Which is to go up the driveway to the path around the back of the home, and then go use one of your powers and then try to slip through into the home. So what happens? So you follow her up the driveway through the back path, you know, up the stairs onto the porch area, home on the back of the home. And it's a four story home. It's a very tall, like thick building, I guess, as a way to describe it. Four stories, if there's an out of basement. My point is it's top gables, unfortunately. Right, exactly. It's got a very Victorian-type feel to it. Although it's not by definition, it's not strictly Victorian, but it's an imposing home that certainly has some gravitas to it. Just to also clarify, I still have the cult symbol, and I'm still keeping it wrapped around my weapon hand. Because that's the only thing that's going to have any effect before against the white bishop. What I presume is the white bishop, that glowing thing. Right, so no problem. Grace, you do what you need to do to disappear. And the same thing happens, where you are thwarted from entry, almost like a membrane to the wall. Even who you are, you see that. You have that wonderful ability, at least you think it's wonderful, to see two worlds at once. And so you do see like a glowing building, and normally you'll be able to walk through that aura and you're not able to. You hear a cursing monitoring under her breath that she's still standing next to you. Okay, I await her instructions. No, no ideas over there. This medallion seemed to have some effect against the white bishop when they were using their magic attacks against us, or it penetrated their defenses. How about if I give you this medallion and maybe it will let you do what you need to do? Okay, hand me the defense. I hand it to her. Okay. Well, you, yeah, you're pulled it out and it's taken from your hand, because she's still invisible at this point. Oh, she turned invisible? Yes. Next. I thought you said it was true. And she muttered under her breath because she was being thwarted from moving through the home. Sorry, but they described it, but I hope you heard it. Well, I heard it, but I'm waiting for her to say something, so she just disappeared, leaving me on the doorstep of this castle. To the best of my knowledge, because she said I'm doing what I'm doing. Okay, well, I put my faith in her, so I say to the air, "Well, still here, here's the medallion. Please use it as best you can." Topper? I'm going to take the medallion. Thank you, Mike. Obviously, if not, I'll become visible. Okay. Become visible or stay invisible? Yeah, I'm visible. I'm trying to defend it. It's tangible. I can't open the door. It's just what I was about to do. Right. Okay, she turns back visible. And with the medallion in her hand, it's an amazing trick. Okay, so it is. Very cool. I gave it to her. And... Can we die? Right. You test the door, and it is live. Whoa. Are you in the house? Only. Let me see that. Wait a minute. These screams in your hair. Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait. A fucking window. Is it a heavy door? What are you doing with us? She walked through the wall without a problem. No, she tried to walk through the wall, got rejected. Well, that's why he gave it to the medallion, actually maybe. She must not realize that. She turned to the corporeal. Wait, what? Exactly. You become substantial again. I'm trying to know. I know what corporeal is. He wanted you to try... He used the medallion. Using the medallion while you were in corporeal. Because a lot of Michael Clayton wanted you to try. Whileing, okay. Well, actually, that's a very good point, because I'm waiting for her to say stuff, so I know how to respond to her. Right. So I don't know how much of what you're doing is... non-vocal. Right. It's all non-vocal. Yeah. She's just... Well, that's why I mean, that's why I'm not saying or doing anything until she says you're in corporeal. Oh, you're in corporeal. Okay, I'm all in corporeal. Yeah, she hasn't given you any clues, so how can you do anything? It's my take on what you're doing. You're doing fine. Okay, door doesn't open then. Right. I will turn around and address Michael Clay. I'm visible. Okay, great. No, she's not invisible. I will turn around and address Michael Clay and tell him that I'm going to try going through with the medallion this time. All right, great. Yes, let's see if it'll work. And then hopefully unlatch it, and then I'll come in after going through it. We'll try. It works. You will through the membrane. It kind of like, almost like you're stretching through it, and then it allows you to pass through. Just do anything else. You see, again, it's a glowing house. It's kind of semi-hopé. If you will, it's semi-transparent, I should say. You can kind of see up through one level above you, but you can't see through the third and then the fourth level to the added, because it's just too much of the haze of the ghostly light that you're seeing. So in the modern realm, you see what amounts to a mud room. And in your ghostly realm, you see a mud room which then has a kitchen attached to it, which then has a parlor, which then eventually leads to a, like a main sitting room, which, even you look above you, you see a library in several bedrooms. You're getting a feel for the home, but no people. No, nothing. Nothing, nothing as of yet. To be fair on previous times, it had always been the highest level when anything had ever happened as far as seeing. As if it hasn't happened. I guess it just looks a heck of a lot better, maybe, because it's new work and not as badly. Still no children. No. I'm going to turn around and open the door and let him. In order to open the door, you have to become substantial again. Obviously. Okay. And if you're here to lock open, and then the door itself opens. Okay. I'm going to keep an eye out for any other of these cult symbols. Obviously, we're going to need more. Okay. But you're keeping an eye out for them because it would make sense. Well, at least if she could have. Yes, so every answer of us playing. Right. And in this mud room, there's none like hanging out next to cult or anything like that. There's nothing that obvious yet. I ask her, Grace, are you able to, like if I hold your hand, can we do this? Can we shift or become incorporeal together, or it can only be you? Already. Okay. All right, lead on. When I, well, when I open the door and you come through, I want to also give him that Medallion back. Okay. I don't want to hold onto it. Okay. So she hands the Medallion back to you. Well, would you then wrap back around your gun? Yeah. Well, yes. I'm keeping my weapon hand, but I'm like, okay, is this going to be our only key to getting through the white bishop, or do you have any idea about that? I don't know. Okay. Well, we might have to pass it back and forth, because if my physical gun doesn't work, then I'm going to have to rely and trust on your magic. All right. You know the way. To the attic? To the attic through several prior visits. And although there's furniture and everything else, and it's not burned out, and it's not the husk of the building it was, that you know from 2011, you could pretty much walk up with your high schools, except for the fact that it's not furnished, and whatnot. So you lead Michael Clay, I'm exposing you're going to stay corporeal at this point? I still know the names of the people who died there. The spirits. The children. Specifically, if you're talking about, yes, you know the three children, and you know their names. I have access to items but there's better in this house. When you say access to items of yours. You have to go to their bedrooms, and go to the mirror, and some would want them if I wanted to. Potentially, that works for the shattered man that's summoning. If you have some other ways of invoking the ghosts, which I think you do, you certainly have ways to be able to do that if they're not present. Okay. So then we'll shift back to the group that's outside of the home, in what they think to be 2011. You see three children who are very haunted, looking, they have their injuries that they suffered, and death still apparent on their bodies. They seem to be, I don't want to say they're blocking your way, because they're physically right in front of you, but they're hovering at that attic level, and they're asking you if they could have someone's soul, and then they'll let you pass through, so use their toys as they would, first of all. Just make some sort of a revelation on a role for fans, and stuff that they like or don't like. Yes, what he had done, first Ethan had noticed that there was a bag up in the... That wasn't Ethan, was it? It wasn't you, Edgard. Right, sorry, that means you're still your thunder. No, but I'm not sure I might have been multiple roles. Yes, there was a bag that seemed to glow, in a way that was unlike anything else. The house is actually deserted, and there is not actually a bag there. So you're seeing the shimmering representation of a bag, and thinking, "Well, that's gotta be something." And that's what came to your mind when you did, our last session, thought about these children in what their anchor, I think is what you were looking for, like what was holding them to this world, and that's the only thing. But again, that's up in the fourth level, very near the gate, so it's troublesome in that sense, that it's far away. Oh, you know how we destroy a spectral bed? With a spectral gun? Do we have a spectral gun? I don't know, I reach it and pull out my gun. The gun is somewhat substantial in your hand. Is his goggles more substantial? Yes, just to be clear, everything on your body, all your possessions even are somewhat substantial. You have coins or dollar bills in your pocket, and there's somewhat substantial, but... Why don't we left the hotel? Yes. Did we have to use the stairs? Yes. Okay. You literally walked downstairs. So we had... Could we walk through walls, or have we tried that? You could absolutely walk through walls. So your goggles and what do you call it again? Difference cube. The difference cube in your jacket pocket are both 100% substantial. It's almost as if they have an other worldly quality to them in the sense of everything's ghostly white, but it's these two things that goggles and the difference cube are like... They still have that ghostly aura to them, but they're like golden in color, and they have a firmness to them that belies everything else about this state of being that you're in right now. Should I put my goggles on? Last week, I don't recall. You did, which is when you saw the gate, and then the difference cube started to go crazy in your pocket again. Okay. And you thought... How might one use that gate, and you made some rolls and/or had been putting some value to it, and you thought, well, perhaps what you believe might have contributed to this group coming into 1935, if you were trying to do something opposite that, you might be looking at based on your role and your success. You might be looking at something maybe opposite that, or would it be exactly the same? You're not sure, but one of those two seems damn likely in this particular scenario. So I guess I would try one of those. Opposite of that. So you take the difference cube out of your pocket while everyone is talking to the children who are hovering maybe at the two-story to three-story level, and occasionally they'll break into sing-songs. They'll have four, they're coming lower? Yeah, they come down lower a bit, they come up, but it's been, they've been doing it constantly. They've been playing tag while they're talking to you, ghostly, scary, my intestines are hanging out tag, but still tag, laughing and giggling, and then starting to pay attention. You've got to get bored with you for a while. When Dr. Ethan pulls out the difference cube and starts playing with it, you hear a collective from all three of them. Hey, what's that? That looks neat. It's my toy. Well, come on, you gotta share. I'm working on setting it or what happens. It's a little bit more complex, so it's going to take like maybe a half minute or so, in which case you keep on looking up, maybe nervously looking towards the sister who her hair is now starting, that was longer, starting to unravel up to around her shoulder length, or what would be her shoulders she had now. And she's barely hanging on to the light at this point, and obviously Daniel is, he's better off, but he's still dissipating quickly. I start walking towards the house to the children and her seed. They don't say anything, they're looking at the difference cube. You can start to follow, again, because you can't float up, you don't have the skill to do that at this point. You just float at the level, your head level of a normal five or five and a half foot adult leg. Is it somebody twin like headless or fabulous farmer around? No, you can wheel yourself to move. You don't have to have legs, you simply can do that, but you just can't float up high in the fourth level. You seem still grounded even though you're dissipating, you're still following the laws of gravity as you know them. So we'll have to enter the house and go upstairs. Yes. Well, we can do about the doctor. We're using them as a distraction. Well, while I'm working on this, I'm kind of wandering. You sit there just a little bit on the spectral flyer. Yeah, heading towards the entrance. And then maybe I can show you something fun if you let me finish this. Well, I'm trying to get the settings right. Okay, they are floating down much, much closer, perhaps, too close for your comfort as they get closer. You see there are no eyes of these children. It's just it's a black abyss, a hole that is quite disconcerting to look at. You find yourself probably not making eye contact with them. So as they they float down from the second level down to the first level to the point where there may be two hand lengths away from you and they're, you know, they're looking and they're pointing and then they're whispering a little bit among each other. And the oldest one seems to be the boy. On which you have heard me called Theodore by the girls. Sometimes Teddy when they're being playful, but what they call him Teddy, he's like my name's Theodore. So he like starts to reach out a little bit towards you, but he's still he's not close enough to touch you, but he's like starting to reach out a bit like almost just because it's cool. And that's what you would do as a kid. You'd reach out towards something you'd want to play with. He's like, well, maybe you could just let me see it for a second. I've never seen something that shines gold like that before. This isn't going to work if you don't let me finish. What are you doing? He's the oldest of the three. So he's probably around 10 or 11 or so. And then the girls chime in. Yeah, what are you doing, mister? What are you doing? As I said, this isn't going to work if you don't let me finish. And I'm continue working at it. Right. And you're able to stall them enough after 30 seconds to where you have the difference keeps set to where you believe it's an opposite type of situation. Now, in order to make sure that that actually works, I need your occult plus your intelligence. Please. Five. Okay, I'm rolling for you. So you don't know if you succeeded or not because you wouldn't know if you succeeded. Okay, I have meditative mind. I don't know which one of these were using before, but that allowed me to operate in a weird environment. Sure. You feel very confident that you have set this difference cube to be the exact opposite of where it was when you drove up to the woods into the rain reservation. Which may take us to the ice age. Yes. Okay. Is that what you want? I think so. I think so. I'm trying to hover halfway. I'm ushering everyone else to go up into the house and try to get up to the top floor while I'm trying to keep an eye on Dr. Ethan and make sure he's coming along as quickly as possible. Right. And everyone, well, he's staying outside and working as a kid and talking to his daughter. Well, he said he was trying to inch his way towards the house. Right. I don't know. Which he certainly can do that. That's not a problem. But you can everyone into the house and because it's ghostly because it is semi-translucent. You can see, you can't see up to the fourth level when you're inside the house. There's just too much ephemera, if you will, to see through. But you certainly can see the next level up where the stairs are. If any clue how we could damage the bed. The bed. Or threaten it. Who? The bed. It seems to be a focus for them. I'm a ghost, so I never been to ghosts before. Pedgar? You know all of spirits? You truck with them, I hear. Yeah, with spirits. Truck goes. It's a difference. Not to Jay there isn't it. I know, that's my smile. Jay thinks they're the same. What do you mean this is a difference? Spirits goes, the same thing. It's simplification, even. Call them spirits. It's complicated shit. They ain't the same as ghosts. I don't deal with hankers. I deal with deals. Do we think that I need to get this different skew in the same area right next to or on the bed/gate? You're certainly the expert. I am, eh? More so than I am. I've never seen the damn thing before. Well, I assume there is some kind of proximity that's required. It's making a hide and seek game of this and using my slight of hand, pretending to hide it somewhere while still having it. Now, what makes that really difficult is the fact that it glows in its ghostly thing and they can see a found obvious where it is. Yeah, a little bit. You know, we'll say it would be a lot of sense if you were in the real world. You can certainly do a... Okay. But it would be really hard to do that. Shoot that idea. A town that counts you're a hundred and turn the other way. Keep going. So, as you start to inch towards the house, they start to inch closer and closer. Like, come on. Come on. You know, like Theodore is being a bit more insistent, not to the point where he's full out demanding it. But he is being a bit more aggressive. And come on, mister, it's impolite to not share. You're being impolite. My father said that people who are impolite should be punished. And what's your dad now? Chew. You're able to move quickly, right? In this realm. Yeah. Well, I suggest that you move quickly towards our target. I may have to throw this to you. Through the house. I'm kind of cool the way that works. Amanda. So, Chew, what are you talking to me over the radio? I assume, since our ghost right here. We're all there, right? Yeah. Okay. Well, I can phrase it like... Something kids might not understand. Big Latin? Yeah. Well, they spoke that in 1890. Kids have been to many times. We're seeing to the gate quickly, and I will propel this to you. If needs be. Speaking English, man. Sorry, boy. So, Chew, do you start dashing up the stairs to the highest levels that you're trying to accomplish? I guess. How do we know where the gate is? Who knows where the gate is with his goggles? Ethan does. But... I mean, can we see through the walls? It's because Daniel knows where it is. No one sees the gate. I need to know where it is. Well, I try to never accept you either. I was not briefed on you. We've been told all the way up it's at the highest level, right? Yeah, but Daniel seemed it in the future past. I try to memorize where it is, and I flick the goggles to Chew and say, "Off with you then." And I face the children and try to change the subject, make it into a hide-seak game. I said, "You can play with this, but you have to find it first. Let's play this game." Okay, so you're trying to... You have to go away a little bit, chase the other way. Right. Go ahead and make a manipulation, velocity. Self-diffuse, and you're trying to beat their empathy. Plus, probably wits as they're trying to figure out whether or not you're telling them against the other hand. We'd have no effect here. Probably shouldn't have phrased it that way. Both hand... Like a lot. Not seeing it. I've only got any other traits at the time. Again, a manipulation of two and a subterfuge of one, so... I can lie for you, but I don't know if they believe it for me. I don't have the same. Can I willpower any of this? Yes. Can I assist him? But I have to do that. You're trying to assist him in lying to the children? Yeah. Well, it's a distraction to the dead, sad little children. And we're trying to eat us? Oh, right. Not all of us. Any kind of distraction. By the ghost. Go ahead. I can see where you can add to it, but they did call you a Negro last time. They probably don't... Respect us. To the same. I mean, he's helped. You know, you're the hired help. You're the staff. You're the nanny that they look down upon because of their affluence in this time period. You know that it's at least... It's either the early 20th century or the late 19th century. And these children died. They've been dead a long time. In a big and lonely house. You're going to give me a penalty? Oh, go ahead and give me that same... Manipulation is four, subterfuge, two. At six, I'll give you... You might as three because of their view of who you are. And you may use well if you want to. Just so you know. I guess. I mean, I don't have any spent right now. Okay. So go ahead and add three dice. Yeah, just add three dice. Six dice. Single success. Single success. So you get to add one die to your roll. Okay. You're welcome. So helpful. Need some willpower. Okay. Add three dice to your roll. Do I have any idea what the area of effect is or the range of this device? I mean, in the past, the only time I've ever used it was when... Right. These guys showed up in the field. Right. Is that true? Yeah. And I had it with me at that point. You did. And you were probably within 30 to 50 feet of where they... Oh, so it's good. Sometimes it radiates. It's got a little bit of range, but you don't know how much they're agitated with you at this point because you're not letting them see it. So I'm going to take a look at two dice for agitation. I would just say they want to have a plan each plan. They're both agitated and they're wise beyond their years. I guess what I'm going for because they're so old. And one thing that's mitigating it for me is they want to play. But another thing that's mitigating for me is they're probably pretty untrustworthy as well because they live in a very scary realm. Even after this long, it's still scary. I don't know who's going to eat you or who you're going to eat. Anyways, go ahead. Just take the mind. Stutes don't mind. And give me a back shot. I feel kind of bad about it. Basically the only one. It's like a roll ten. Eight. Three. Out of five. Three successes and a ten again. Eight. Four successes. Okay, there are three children. Their empathy has been worn away through the years, so that's like one. And their manipulation, oh no, sorry, wits. This is pretty clever. So three. So they each get four to try to see through your subterfuge. And you had four successes. They have a ten again. One success for the youngest. Oh, Ruthie. Now Hannah has one ten again and a five, which is only one success. And then Y's old theater. I'm going to give him a fifth dice because he is the oldest. Sure. And he actually got no successes at all. So all three of them, for the briefest moment, turn their ghostly backs to you. As they expect you to hide it. And you're like, we're just getting you 10 seconds. Oh, no, look. 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, and they're going really fast. Those are seconds. So one happens. Two is running up the stairs at this moment. At guard, you're kind of at the entrance hoping to. Well, they're not going to, they can just fly up most likely if they chose to get angrier upset, but you're kind of lending support to Ethan doorway. Yeah, I ain't going to block them though. How do they get to fly? We're going to get to fly. They're old ghosts. Oh, we got to just die, I guess. Plenty of time to figure out. I'm working on that. Daniel, you're in the what looks to you like. Maybe some sort of kitchen through a mud room that you want. That was a following shoe. So you're dashing up the stairs with shoe as best someone that's in corporeal in dash. Sister Katie, you are hovering up the stairway as well. And then too, you're flying up the stairs best. You can too. What is your speed? This is a standard speed supposed to be 12. And dash the stairs behind is Daniel, which is a speed of 13. Whoa. And then sister Katie. Speed. It's 11. 11, nice. And Jay, what are you doing as this is happening? Again, you're starting in the kitchen. No, I'm not even in the house. I'm... You're going... Okay, I thought you were... Oh, I'm sorry, misunderstood. I was living in towards the house and I told them to go up and I'm waiting for Ethan. Okay. Ethan and Edgar are right outside the entrance where the children turn their bags and start counting down very quickly. At that point, yes, go ahead Ethan. The reason I sent you is because we were... He and I were getting bonuses for movement. Is that... Right, and it still applies. I mean, Daniel is faster in the mortal realm, but with Chu's meditative mind, he is faster in this realm. So Chu, you are shooting up the second to the second floor and on your way. Unfortunately, there's a disconnect from the stairway on the second floor to the third floor. It's not one winding or one staircase. It just kind of is all connected. So you're dashing across the second floor to where the stairway is to the third floor when I'm carrying this device with me. You could actually see the divis of glimmers of what looks like it could be a gate, two stories above you. Do I see anything else, any other entities? Not yet. Well, what did I do? The kids start counting down really quickly, even what do you do with that? I have fast reflexes, so I'm going to try to anticipate the moment they're turning around and immediately before that, I'm going to launch this thing as hard as I can in the direction of where the room is, where I know that Chu is heading. Okay, this sounds like a... It sounds like a documentary. Yeah, this is a Hail Mary play. I'm not touching that ghost bomb or whatever the hell he has. Doomsday device. You make it to the stairway that leaves the third level. You start dashing up those stairs as fast as you can. Daniel's pretty close behind, but still starting to fade a bit at this point, the sister as well, starting to fade a little further behind. So you're almost the third level when you hear 10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1. And right when that happens, you hear Ethan shout out, "Choo, catch!" And he pulls this substantial piece of metal through the... I'm guessing, trying to throw it through the... As they're counting, I'm getting a running start, so I can get closer. Right. Because they're not looking, right? Right, yes, Jay. When they get down to three, I click on the witch finder and toss it in the direction 90 degrees of us. And then I aim at Theodore's forehead when he spins around, I shoot. I don't know if the witch finder helps it out, but... Right, we're supposed to be in this direction. Buster. Which buster? Oh, it's like a flashbang for... Ah, it sounds a great place to go back to the other scene. Which takes us to both Dr. Clay and Silver Bell. Silver Bell, you are walking through the house. The house that you are very familiar with, at least somewhat familiar with. And you are following her. She's corporeal, so she's not... Does the house look like it's been... Is it like... It is plush. It is well-appointed. The floor's green with... They've been polished to a sheen. I'm sure they have carpets, so we're very... They do have... But not just carpets. They have Persian rugs. And when I say Persian rugs, obviously in this time period, it's not picked up from Home Depot Persian rug. This is natural Persian rug. Huge mahogany tables that are inlaid with mother of pearl. It looks to be... It's a wealthy home. Like a wealthy home. As you walk through the first floor, you go to the second floor, where there's a library, stately bedrooms. Carpenet hallways, dumb waiters that go in between floors. It looks like an incredibly, incredibly wealthy home. And maybe even the way that there's a library and a parlor, it can almost be almost like a clubhouse in the sense of... For a gentleman's club, right, from that time. I ask Grace, do you know if any of people are here, and how many people are here? I could potentially find out if there are people here, and how many people are here. I'm just, are we talking like five, ten or... I mean, I know the world. The house is empty, right? Okay, that's what I'm asking, is the house currently empty, but I don't know what... Can you tell me that or not? Right. Okay, it's going to take a minute, but if you really want to find out if there's anybody here living or dead, I could tell you. Or are they... I'm assuming they're all bad. That's a bold statement to make. I wouldn't say that. Okay, so... True to me, not to kill. Because we're here. Well, where are we going? I mean, now that we're inside, what are we looking for? We have a couple of different options. I'm assuming that this conversation is having an actual walking. So, you're walking up the stairs to the first floor to the second floor. Second floor, you have to walk across the entire length of the house to get up to the stairways and go up to the third floor. She's talking while you're doing this go. Whispering quietly. Yes, whispering. Okay. I have a source that tells us we need to go up to the attic and open the gate. And hopefully, if we do that, it might lead us to the team. I don't know how reliable this source is. I don't know whether or not we should trust it. May I ask who your source is? No, you may not. And the other option is that I could potentially try to get information from people or persons who inhabit this house. They might know something about what happened here, what is happening here, what's going on. I mean, the residents or the people that are here? Yeah, the residents. Do we have time for that? I'm asking me, I don't know. It seems, the source told me to get here as soon as possible. He told me to go up to the attic. He told me to open up the gate. Then it sounds like we need to do that as soon as possible, so we probably don't have time to do time before. Okay, but I'm warning you, I don't know what's going to happen. If you want to take that risk, okay, but you need to know that I cannot say that we will be safe. Do you have any sort of a way of protecting yourself? Well, I can, I can fight any man. I don't know if I can fight anything supernatural. Okay, and when we get up there, right before the door, I will, I guess, perform an awarding circle ceremony and keep you on the inside of it to protect you from whatever is going to come through that gate when we open the door. Can you give me an idea what might be coming through that door? I know, I don't, I have no idea. So, civil conversation in head, all through anything. So, you go up to the third floor. The third floor has a disconnect where the attic is actually a pull down set of stairs that lead up to the attic level. That's where you need to make your decision is to- So, wait, I have to pull down from the ceiling, the stairs that lead up to the gate? Yeah, that lead up to the fourth level. Like in a long, it's a big attic. This is a big house. Okay, so when I'm asking it, how am I going to draw this? So, there's no, is it just like a landing, the stairs in the door? When you might go down the stairway, throw up. So, then I can do the awarding circle and it actually literally encompassed the entire door because it's inside of the circle that's on the ground underneath of it. That's what you're saying. Yes, but the gate is not directly where the stair is. There's a couple of like small little like bedrooms. It's in the actual attic where the gate is and it's off to the side. So, we go into the attic and then- Go up to the attic and then you walk through several bedrooms. There's not like a hallway. There's like, it's like an interactive, it's like interconnected like little bedrooms that are up there. Creepy little storage bedrooms. As we're walking through the house, we don't see any other symbols or any of these other items. The symbols that you wanted to see, nothing at all. Again, it looks like a well-appointed gentleman's club from 1935. Are there any mirrors in that place as we're going? Yes, I would have to say that you've passed several dynamic exquisite looking mirrors. And very big and heavy. And are they intact or are they cracked? Everything you see looks to be in pristine condition. Okay. So, you're at the base. You can get by jumping up a little bit. You can like grab onto the loop and pull it down. Or, it's much easier for Michael just to- or Michael to pull it down for you. Oh, okay. Well, how about I go first then? I will pull down the stairway. I'm hoping that I can do it and ease it as quietly, but those springs tend to- Yeah, it opens up and then as a ladder slides down, you know, as each ladder goes and connects and expands out. It's like a ladder that kind of comes into three parts to get the whole distance down once you open it up. I've seen these guys before. I'm not letting you know, you know, allow them. I'm trying to ease it down, but- I'm just saying you're making this little noise possible. There's still a full chirp or a third level. And which I assume what you described as a measure. A master's bedroom. And we have not encountered anyone in the- You have not encountered anyone here. It looks to all the world like an empty gentleman's club would look like at 5.30 in the morning. And no servants? No servants? No. And we don't hear ours any activity in the house other than what we're doing. No. Now, there certainly could be- there was certainly closed doors. Yep. There certainly was probably a basement that you didn't investigate where there might be a- No, we're starting to get up to the gate. No, I'm just describing that- Right. Just because the house seems empty, does not mean the house is empty. No, I get that. Okay. All right, I have my- So you pulled down the stairway for Grace. Right. And Grace, are you going first or is Michael Clay going first? Is she? Do you know how to use a gun? Do you need to use a gun? I know how to use a gun, yes. All right. I take my second weapon, which is an automatic pistol. I still have my 45. I give her my pistol. That's if you need it. So you slide it in your back, back to your jeans. Your carbok hands or whatever you kids wear nowadays. So he goes first. He goes first. You climb upstairs into the pitch black- Picking first. At that point, as you climb up to, you know, almost the final steps, but you are ready to enter the act. And look around it at that point, you hear a noise, and it sounds to all the world like a couple of kids singing a nursery rhyme. Anyway, cut back to the other group. Which bomb? Talked to me, Jay. I'm talking to Daniel. I have no clue. This is a Valkyrie tech. Not yet. Which nursery? It's-- Ring around the rosy. What a good look at that one. It's just a flair for supernatural senses. It draws their attention. It's bright. It's noisy, but it's not blinding. It's just a distraction. All right. It's mostly to check if people notice it to see if they're magic or not. Oh, it was distracted for 20 minutes or so much. So it's getting thrown into his face, and it's pretty bright. No, it was not getting thrown. No, I was trying to draw their attention show. It's throwing it away from us at an angle. So I think it's-- Not how far away, Jay. Let's say the children are roughly 10 to 15 feet from you, with Ethan dashing into the blood room and throwing the cube straight upwards where he believes that Chew will be, and Edgar not far behind him. Right? You were going inside as well. You're staying outside. Behind Chew? No, no, no, no. Jay's at the threshold of the home. Once the kids got close to like around three or so, Ethan Clark, Dr. Ethan Clark turned around, slid past Jay into the mud room, reared back his arm, and through the difference cube, is far up straight up into the home as he possibly could. Your character is-- Well, I was outside helping him live, but after he started counting down, I probably headed inside, because I didn't have any things to do with that work. That works as well. Daniel, as you're running across the second floor towards the third floor staircase, which is on the opposite end, you hear whispers in your head. Saying. Saying. You can make the shot. You can do it. I can take out those kids. Do I have my rifle with me? Oh, absolutely. Okay. It doesn't let you put it down. It doesn't like it when you put it down. It talks to you incessantly in your head when you practically be carrying it. Well, in practical, sure, but story plot wise much better. Okay. It's strapped across your back in this particular instance, and/or along your leg, or however you would do it in your mountain man sense of carrying the rifle, but it's saying. I see a holster across your back. Yeah. Right. Hold out like a giant sword, doesn't it? No one else can take it out. Just us. Can't do it. Just talk about it. I didn't know I could. So I hosted a thing and take aim down through the stairs. All right. Presumably, the translators are enough that I can draw a beating out. Well, for the second floor, you can't. All right. They out in the-- Yeah. I mean, so you're shooting through a wall rather than down through the stairs. Okay, I forgot where. Yep. That's okay. There's not like I haven't drawn a four-story map of, uh, yeah, all the guys. Okay. Ethan, go ahead and make a dexterity plus athletics will be pleased. Your diet pool is five. Five. Here's throwing up several layers. This cube. Yeah, not really. I'm throwing it through. You have to space. You are. But I'm saying in time-- What you see? Yeah. The translucent sense tends to get thicker and thicker. Your opacity decreases as you go up the layer. So you can barely make out what they're viewing on the third floor at all. It's hard enough just to see through the second. It's up to the second. Okay. So you're making a guess as to where to throw this. So minus one die for the guess. Make your best shot. You hear your name called out at this point. Two. We rolled four dice. We got a ten again and an eight. Nine. Nine, sorry. Ten again. That's all. Three successes. Three out of four, that's all. So what that does, that makes choose job a lot easier. Because instead of having the-- I love him. I love him. Despite him perfectly. And it was a really tough thing. Because he's actually not running perpendicular to you at all. He was running up the stairs and towards you in a sense, as he was running up to the third floor. And I was experiencing the Tibetan 3D football league. Yeah, absolutely. The crit matches in high-fat now. I'm just running a simple out pattern. Well, I'm not covered by anyone, you know. No, no, you don't. Because Daniel kind of-- He was the closest to you and he gave up. So go ahead and the same role to dexterity plus athletics. Do you know what your die pole is, please? The dexterity is two athletics. I have it three. Three. I am wearing the goggles though. Add three dice because of the successes that Ethan had. Add one die for the goggles. Okay. And subtract three dice for being ghostly, crazy, Inca-Porigal, whatever. But wait a minute, what's that one? The skill you have? Like you call it a lie. One more die for that. So minus two or however you want to play it. How many dice do you have? Two, four, six, seven. I don't know how important it is to catch this cube. I don't get a shit. I don't know what this cube does. So I'm just gonna try to catch it. Okay, try to catch it. Seven dice. Two never gets really bent on a shape by anything. Seven dice or serial killers. Yeah. I have one success. Maybe with the hand catch. Really, I managed to catch it. I guess I caught it, whatever. Yes, you actually put a hand up, like it was coming right through your head. And you put a hand up and it bounced off your hand, went up in the air, spun. And you grabbed it with your off hand as you continued up the stairway. So it was quite the impressive catch, although almost fumbled. You get to the third floor. You can see a gate now very clearly, shimmering straight, almost straight above you from where you came up onto the third floor. However, there's no stairs going up to the third floor. So you look around, and again, in the ghostly realm, you can see the outlines of various parts of the home. And certainly, there is a drop down at a door that's a little ways down the pathway. So you, or the hallway, excuse me, the third floor hallway. So you had that direction, obviously, to go to that fourth floor, or do you do something different? Who do I have with me? Well, Daniel was behind you, but he's not right now. And then, Sister Kinney's fastly dissipating head is following you, and it's-- but she's not within sight. Uh, I'm after. So it's just Sister Kinney will be a while. Do we have an initiative? So with you right now, no, I just-- You left at what time? I'm just taking it pretty loose here. You have Sister Kinney following you, but you can't see her down the hallway, down the stairway, that you just came up. I'm sorry. You can see her because you have the goggles on, but she's just entering the stairway. She's a ways behind you. Yeah. And I thought Daniel was with me. No? Yeah, yeah, you can see him too. He ran past the stairway, and is now on one knee with a rifle in his hand pointing out into the yard towards where Jay is and some of the ghosts' children. And do the ghosts' children seem to notice? Well, they are just this point turning around to face Jay. I'm going to pause for a half second. I'm not sure exactly what I'm supposed to do with this thing. OK. At all. It's vibrating very, very aggressively in your hand. It's probably going to explode and kill you for real. Yeah, it could kill my ghost elf. So at this point, we go back down to Jay in the ghost. So you throw the witch buster, always in the distance, hoping to destroy. Well, actually, I don't know the range of this thing. So I'm going to try to put it just off five feet to their left to get their attention because there are tensions on this big, glowing, golden cube. I read a bit on the witch buster in the haunted book. It's supposed to cause a disturbance in the twilight realm that's supposed to distract, which is because they can see that or whatever. I would absolutely assume these children who have never been exposed to a witch buster before in their lives and turning around, hoping to see this wonderful prize or getting ready to turn around and see this wonderful prize. Wouldn't absolutely be stunned by the blinding flash of light. There is a flash bang, so there. From this device. So if there's a flash, a blinding flash of red light, which actually somewhat not highly blind, she was well only happy because you have one eye. The children shout out in surprise and fear, not knowing again what to expect. And at that point, what do you do, Jay? I see if my gun works at all against them. Sure. Teddy gets it in the forehead. Well, she shoot for the body mass. Go ahead and add up your die pool. Extra pleasant. Yeah, the extra pleasant mass, man. Eleven. Oh, okay, dope. Minus two because of my eye. Sure. Nice. It takes you down to nine. And then there's going to be a, maybe just a minus one for the gun feels different in your hand and it's all different because you're in twilight. So go ahead and make that roll. Just two. The gun adds two more if that matters. You shoot him directly through the middle of his chest, but he's not facing at the time, so through his back shoulder blades, I guess, would be more descriptive. You all right with me shooting a kid through the back? Yeah, okay. He's very dirty. Extolerated circumstance. There is a startled movement from him, like the sound of the weapon discharging and the idea of something moving through his mass, his ephemeral mass. It was definitely disturbed, but when he turns around, you don't see that there is, he didn't crumple. He didn't show anything besides being absolutely startled, but his face is absolutely terrifying. At this moment is it's contorted into something that is... Not pretty. Not human in any shape of the word at all. And it's half shout, half snarl, half scream. Under primal sentence almost, of you lie. He's like shaking with rage and anger. I hate wires! And that's where we'll leave that moment in time. Switching back ever so quickly to the sing song, nursery rhyme that you have, bringing in your ears, Mr. Clay. Three little voices singing, "Bing around the rosy." Are they ghostly voices or they sound like physical voices? Um, it sounds... You're still missing children here. You've seen some scary shit in your days, and you've watched scary movies, obviously as well. Four days ago, feeder demons were whispering to me, so... Exactly. This sounds like a scary version of... Ring around the rosy. This does not sound like some little toddler on your knee. It sounds definitely a little darker, and they're kind of focusing on the darker points. So the inflection of the tone is a little different. So yeah, you pick up a different vibe, absolutely. All right, is it pitch dark? Do I see anything? Is there anything glowing? Oh, it's pitch dark up there. I mean, obviously there's some ambient light from down below, but that's about the extent of it. So I do a quick scan left, forward, and right. And all you see is just pitch black in your side. You know, the pitch black in, you know, again, from the ambient light, you can see that there's maybe the idea of some walls and maybe some furniture. Very it didn't blow, but your eyes haven't even got a chance to adjust yet. I dug down back, and the stairs turned back to Grace, and I tell her, all right, I can't see anything up here. It's dark, but as soon as my head got over there, over the threshold, if you will, I hear scary children singing a children song. So what next, did you know where there are children in this house? Yes. But you knew? Yes. And maybe you should go first. Let's chill. I'll back you up. It makes very dangerous. I go first. So yeah, he comes back down the stairs, so it sounds like it's more of your cup of tea, and you go up, and same thing, you hear the voices, and they're familiar voices to you, and they're haunting voices to you, which is not surprising. And with your vision that you have, you can see much clearer up here, obviously, than Michael Clay could. They seem to be going around the gate, holding hands, the three of them, and they're singing their song. So there are a couple of rooms away, but they're singing their song, and they seem to be, I think it's fair to say they haven't noticed you or Henry yet. Okay, I'm going to approach them, because I know them. Right. I'm going to probably tell you to hang back for a minute. Okay, thank you. See? Did this work for Michael Clay? He's like, "Well no, but now I know what she's doing." And so I was like, "Right." Yeah, okay, right. So I'll go ahead and feel informed. Actually, before she walks away, can I cover you in any way? I've got the gun with the icon. Is there a key word that you can say, like, "Help" or "Dane" or something? Well, I would hope if I screamed to help that you would come and... Right, but I can't go guns blazer. I mean, I don't, I can't see anything up here, so... You don't, you don't, you don't, they're already dead. You can't really kill them. Do you have anything that can combat supernatural? You have my knife. You have, you have your knife. The gun, you know, affected that being of white light. Right. But do you know if that was a spirit or a ghost or a human with a magical protection over them? You have no idea. So I'm going to say based on your history in the ages kind of org. Right. And just the background information you have on artifacts and entities around the world, you would not assume that this gun would damage these children. You might hope that the gun would damage the children, but you know there's enough different flavors of strange that you don't know for sure whether or not this is a foolproof method and you wouldn't base your life on it. But what about the relic that I have my knife? Right. I have faith in that. We have to do three once in a while, but you have to remind me of what kind of properties it has as far as a weapon is concerned. Tell us about your knife, Michael. Yes, we haven't heard so awesome. You consulted it once for information. Right. I don't think he's talked about the backstory and in what he can do. So let's, let's hear it. It is called the subtle knife. Yes. Yeah, for Atlantis. And it has, it grants limited omniscience in the form of the voice of the relic, which will talk to me and tell me information. Right. It also has a, um, ephemeral revelation where it will allow me to perceive and see any spiritual entities, but there goes spiritual spirits. Right. Ain't that a asterisk? Yeah, that's garbage. I would say the Ora Chalkum blade, based on your history and research, you feel may be effective against ghosts, but you are not. You don't have a degree of certainty that, that Michael play who deals in certainties. You think this would, what's the blade used by Abraham to almost sacrifice his son? This is the blade that was in Michelangelo's painting. Right. What you're saying is you feel more comfortable with the blade in your hand than you do with the gun in your hand. Perfect. Done. Got my knife. This will be the blade that almost worked against those children. Yeah. Yes. You approach the children. No, wait, we, we, you've got a code word. It's, it's help. The ghosts. That's right. Correct. It still can't. So he tells her that he may have a weapon against these, these children, but he's not sure. Um, but he grandishes it. So you know that he's ready for action possible. And looks at a lovely knife. Really well polished and very impressive. But I'm sorry, there is one other weapon I have. You're right, he's left? No, the loving one. The loving one. Oh, the loving one. You're still holding on to the gun. Yeah, that's true. You know, I shift, that's a good point. I'll shift the medallion from the gun, since I'm not using the gun, and I'll have it with my knife. Oh, you know what? That's even better idea. Yeah. Well, wait on that. Your, um. I'll. Okay, I give it to me, but I'm not going to, I'm not going to, um, I'm not going to hold it anywhere that these spirits can see. Okay. Ghost, I pass her the amulet. Ghost, it's going to be concealed. Right. Okay. So you pass her the, uh, the, the amulet, and I'll try to use the power for whatever it will give me, but it will hopefully let me, um, able to receive and see any spiritual entities. Well, if it gives me any better than being in the dark, because I don't want to accidentally start slashing at the dark. Right. And hurt anyway. All right. That game plan is set. You are doing what? Walking towards them. Okay. How do they look? They look the same as all that? Exactly the same. Yes, the blackened hollowed out eyes. So pasty white skin translucent, dressed in antiquated clothing. All right. Theodore, hand out Ruthie. And so you hear the song come to an abrupt halt. If you look your way, you can see them looking at this point, if I still room in between you, but you're walking across that first room there in the third room where the gate is.
