[Music] Hello, and welcome to Knights of the Night Actual Play Podcast. This world of darkness story, the cinnator, was written and run by your storyteller Scott. And now, please enjoy episode 224, titled "Invoking My Birthday." Actual play begins 12 minutes, 11 seconds. [Music] For this week, we just have a little bit of feedback. On episode 223 on Facebook, Paul B said, "Nothing for the Kool-Aid gang too soon." "We grow old, we have remote days, not soon, but too soon." I don't care how long it's been, it's too soon. Oh yeah, there's a Jonestown now. Yeah, Mastercard. Jason S said, "Oh great, now they'll never open a door ever again." It was a bad thing. Bad things happened, yeah. It just started to open the door when I got kicked in her face. [Laughs] Because we needed a reason, right? Right, because yeah, we have to make doors even harder. I think I'm going to start saying like, there is an archway, there is a... Yeah, there's a portal, an opening in the wall with a piece of wood in it. There's a hatch, it's hinges. Ari responded as well, the Jason's post and said, "Or they can just keep calling just a moment." Is it down there, Kyle Clark? A little bit more, getting the guns. Almost ready, hold on. Taking tactile positions with aiming proper and shooting angles. Ari also posted, and I believe he was aiming this at Mike. And when she said, "Osterman's weekend with..." Osterman's weekend. There you go, Ari. Oh, that's right, Ari. That adds the movie. I looked it up and there was a lady with a bow. Yes, this is what Mike is talking about. In my head, I was just listening to her. That was so original that you were looking for. You were watching Day of the Condor? Day of the Condor. You get three days of the Condor. Ten days. And in my head, the month. In my head, I had transposed that title with the Osterman weekend. Where the lady has a bow and arrow, and that's right, Rooker Howard's in that one. That's three days. And long weekends. I think Ari went to no prize for a song. Thank God, because I was actually driving over here. I was thinking again about that three days of the Condor. Have you ever tried to search for something? Yeah, I've had any criteria on which to even begin to search. You know, I remember... That movie with a lady in a ball. Well, just really quick. Ari once had a very terrifying moment where I forgot how to spell the word "who". And I'm sitting and going, "Who?" It's an age sound, but it's not age. Because it's like, "Ooh!" That's like, "Ooh!" But how come I can't remember? I can't even look it up at a dictionary because I don't know what word it... What letter it starts with. I've done that, and they pull out my phone down when I say it. Then I go, "Oh, yeah, duh." And it happened years ago, so it's not... Somebody discovered having this moment of panic where I'm like... How do I spell it? How do I spell who? And after a while, the right way just sounds dead wrong. Oh, I've done that, too, where you look at it like a word and a letter, and it's like wrong. That is not how you spell that. You don't spell and that. Wait, come on. You know, like, I'm writing an email. We have a committee tomorrow. Two M's, two T's, two E's. Tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow, tomorrow. I do know one M, two R's. That's really it for the feedback. We also want to mention that the Queen City Conquest Kickstarter, when this episode will be released, will have 11 days left. They're chugging along pretty good, but... Some of all of us are signed up. Yes, we are. And if you want to join us there, we'd love to see you. It blows my... I'm still... Now I'm thinking the Ostrumen Weekend. It blows my mind that that guy even pull... How he was able to... On my clues of just saying, "A woman with a bow, and she's fighting in this..." Well played, aren't you? Mm-hmm. Yes. It must be some Finnish sense of... Argy is actually the secret behind Google. Do you ever see those videos where it's a person, and then you come and ask him questions, and he answers them? That's Argy. He's one of many. He's one of many. He has many issues on the Google questions. That is some good quality search engine. Search engineing. Search engineing. Sorry. Search engineing. Ah, we have a beer. And another. Did we discuss origins at all? Is anybody interested in... I am interested in origins. I would be interested in origins as well. That is June 3rd through the 7th. I looked it up. So it's like, starts on a Wednesday, and it ends on a Sunday, and... But it is fairly simple days. The one day badge is $20, I guess, 15 in advance, so... Is that full access badge? Or is that just a day pass where you get to look at things and go ahead? It's full access, but I don't have any idea what that means, because I've never been there. Because Scott and I went one year and it was just a day pass, and all we could do was like, look, we could actually sign up for a month and stuff. Oh, we'll have to look into that, because I like to play. I think I could do a Saturday. I could probably take your son. Yeah, my son along. And I don't know if the girls would enjoy that. But I think... I think my son, Samy, is your... Right, Tom has spent with us. And one of my daughters went, and they all had a great time. It's a huge, it's a spectacle. We're visiting it. It's in Columbus. Origins. And it is just very large. Yeah, I'm sure you're somebody who enjoy it as well. I'm like... Oh, yeah, he would. The QCC is much smaller cosier, and you could... Like, if we're there and one of the listeners are there, there's a really good chance they're gonna bump into us. Origin, not so much. If you want to find somebody, you better be able to contact them and make arrangements because of these humongous... They're only over there. There were at least several thousand. Oh, I would say. I think we're talking tens of thousands of tickets. But I don't have the numbers. But Origin... The one day badge says all... allows all access entry to Origins for the selected daily show. So that... I don't know. And that's not a bad price. Is it all gaming, or is it... Sorry? Is it all gaming, or is it all pop culture, or what? It is majority gaming, right? Majority gaming. Origins is a slightly higher percentage of board gamers to RPGers, but there are a lot of RPG players there. Lots. But there's definitely a lot of miniatures as well. There's a lot of board game playing there. There's a huge floor with, like, companies that sell stuff. I mean, it's just like a football field. It is humongous. It's a place to buy dice. Or how about those miniature games where there is? Yeah. There was probably, I'm guessing... The boys loved it. 60 to 80 tables that were about twice as large as this table that we're playing on. And had, ever from... Like, Roman army stuff. All the way up to Space Age games. A couple of 'em had, though. It was like, sellable combat. And they have a combat with the heroes. I have seen the old star blazers, one of these beautiful models, when they had them on these rulers that would... Yeah. So they had, like, a third dimension. That there's a third dimension. They have a World War I, like, biplane fighting. That they move the plane up and down on the end. And then these guys had this wooden panel that they had in front of them. That had, like, how many shots were fired? They had little bullets that you would actually, like, shell from bullets. There was a guy there I saw that one time he had the official ruler. And this ruler had been painted with different ranges and things. And people would make their moves. And like you said, an enormous table. And they were moving their miniatures and their formations and their order of battle. And then the referee would come in. He's measuring things. And then it seemed very complex. And he was arguing with... Everybody was arguing with this guy. Like, any true referee, nobody likes any call. Right. They can't. Skyside and mine were walking around. They got lost. Not lost, but I mean, they loved the miniature section. And they just, they were walking around a different... There was places where they were playing in Blood Bowl, where you've got fantasy characters playing football, but with real weapons, you know, taking their eye out. And they would stand in front of a table for 10, 20 minutes, just watching what was going on and stuff. And I mentioned that they would love to sign up for it and then actually try it. So, another thing I wanted to mention really quick about Origins is that more than a few members of the Rusek gamers go. And Roy from there offered to... This was a couple of years ago, but he offered to run a game of fiasco for us, for whoever wanted to play. But the point was that John Jay would be nice to meet up. We'd have to wheel John in a... First of all, John Jay would be a dolly, he'd be like Hannibal Lecter, and he'd be tied in a street shop. We'd have a little dolly rolling John up to the table. But it would be fun to just meet them. That's for lunch with them, other podcasters. Oh, they have a great place for lunch to do that. That market? The North Market? The Market Street Market, right? Oh, yeah, absolutely. Right across the street from the convention is within walking distance. We had lunch there and we had a lot of cosignites. That's actually the only thing about coming this year. Right, fucking on it, it's kind of... Absolutely. As soon as there's a sweet time. We went early in the morning, we stayed in the majority of the day. And I was like... Oh yeah, we could have stayed later. But the kids were two years younger and... Yeah, exactly. And it was our first time of exposure to it. And we didn't sign up for anything. So this year I'd like to sign in up for something. You were sick from the con crowd? No, I don't know. No. Just to go back really quick, the fan page had a few discussions. One of them was a suggestion that we re-edit the episodes so that all of shitlock is together in one or two very lengthy episodes. Huh, holy fuck. Someone suggested that would be really hard to do. It really wouldn't be for my opponent. It wouldn't be. What would be difficult is finding a place to store those. Because our account deals with it that we can only release so much a month. And those would be really big files. Right. And they would eat up the majority of our account. Mike actually suggests throwing them up on YouTube or some other place where we could have a permanent link. Is there a limit to having a YouTube account? Actually, I'm sorry, Mike also suggests it. Yeah, not me. No, I don't think there is. Which is why I suggested it. I mean, if you want to get, you could maybe try to do something sort of Google Docs. Yeah, it's an interesting idea. But on the fan page I said, I don't think that would be all that difficult to do. Maybe we'll make it a stretch goal for Patreon if we hit 100 and some dollars a month. That time we'll go through the effort of doing that. Any more? I'll tell you what, we just sent out a t-shirt. You businessmen translate to a court. Yeah. The t-shirts are not inexpensive. They're $30. And the shipping for this, yes, was to England. And I don't begrudge our listeners wherever they are. We'll get the t-shirt to you. But this month, we might have taken a loss on what it costs. Which, okay. Hey, I will never begrudge love the fans. I'm the resident anglophile stuff. That's right. And one other thing that was, because I don't like to go over what's on the fan page too much, but there was one post. It was a picture of a building that was redesigned and was consisting of the exterior, all of doors. I can tell you that thing was doors, hundreds of doors. I think it's in Seoul, South Korea. So with that, we will go on to the episode with a quick reminder. Amazon link on our blog site and of course, Patreon, you know, because we set a new goal. Right, I guess. We just have to figure out how to do it. And with that, we'll go on to the episode. This is the World Darkness story in the Sineadar. I'm your storyteller Scott. And with us tonight on my right. Michael playing Ethan Clark, a medical doctor and member of Aegis Kiderow since 1929. John playing Jay Alton, member of the ascending ones and leader of Task Force Siren. Jim playing Katie O'Connor, a nun and a member of the Malice Melkarm. Mike playing Michael Clay, the academic adventurer from the Aegis Kiderow. Bob playing FBI Special Agent at Jew Park, member of the Basky conspiracy. Thomas playing Edgar Advanteis, a doing practitioner, a member of the late mystery conspiracy. John playing Daniel Morgan, a mountain man turned mercenary, an ex-member of Task Force Valkyrie. Sub-Chu. None. So this bullet that just dissolved before hit the Bishop, it hit like an invisible shield or something. As I said, he's radiating an incredible amount of light, whereas the room is cast into dramatic shadow because it's so bright in the room right now. But the look straight at him is almost painful to your eyes. What Daniel probably did was he was blinking a lot and kind of looking kind of side-kilter or off to the side shot saw the bullet stop in mid-air and then melt into mercury. The Bishop didn't dim at all. No, the light didn't fade at all. Then you seem to notice he's still chanting. I'm going to take a shot at one of the occultists there attacking Sister Katie. Looks like I have a clear line for understanding the one that Michael Clay just shot. Okay, that works. Put him down. I'm going to take a shot at that one. Great. What's your dipole? Yeah, and I have a laser which gives you six. I'm going to subtract two because you're firing into a crowd in one business exhaustion. So down three, are you risking or spending willpower? No. Okay, re-ice, good luck. Do know that if you fail on your re-ice, you do have a chance of hitting Katie or the other cultist in equal measure. So I know you don't want to spend a willpower, but I'm just letting you know what the ramifications could be if you miss. I don't know. Just Katie. Try this with her. No, she knows he's got it. Oh, just one. One success. And what's your firearms bonus? Four. Four? Was that a hand cannon? It's a fucking shot, man. Those things hurt. Oh, I forgot that it was a shotgun. He falls to the floor and he remains conscious, but he's on the floor. I get to move, right? You can move if you want. Yes. He's going to take us back to Ethan and Katie. We'll be next as soon as Chu decides where he's moving to. I just move it closer to the door, kind of right by where Daniel's at. Maybe a few paces behind him, off to his right. Now, I will say that that area is quickly filling up with this green liquid that's moving its own volition on the ground. Yeah, I'll tell you what, I'll go ahead and hop up on the bed there. Okay, that's kind of on the, if you're walking into the room on the left side. Sure, that's good. You could do that quite easily. Okay, that takes us to Katie or the doctor who has the higher dexterity. I'm sorry, who has a higher initiative bonus first? I'm just going to modify your seven. Plus seven, what's your plus? Nine. Nine, okay. So, good doctor, do you want to go first or do you want to let Katie go first? I don't think it matters. I'll go first. I want to leave the blanket such as it is covering as much of the area of the liquid church and move off to the other side near the beds. Got it. I want to draw my goggles out and get those ready because I think I might be using them. So, you stand up, which is usually a full act you can do. I can say you take a step as you back towards where you want to be, but really standing up in the three seconds is your move action and your goggles is your action. So, your goggles are on and you're able to stand up and take a step back towards the beds. Okay. When your goggles go on, the floor lights up like a Chinese New Year. I mean, it is just sparks and flares and you're seeing things that you did not see when you just looked at the liquid gem like oil moving across the floor. Now, it's just literally there seems to be rising straight up from each of the lines that's being formed, rising straight into the air is just a, to mix metaphors, a cacophony of colors that are shooting straight up into the air and there's sparks and there's just an incredible amount going on and that's what draws your attention to most this turn. Also, make a perception check, please. 10 again, and 9, 3. Notice the hell out of that, I guess. Four successes on five guys. Yeah. You do notice the hell out of it. In your jacket pocket, which you still have on, you feel slowly at first, but now actually much more aggressive, your cypher cube is actually moving on its own. It's starting to actually spin and kick and dance in your pocket. Really? Your jacket pockets. Yes. Katie, you go. I'm doing my addiction. Okay. Just one of the long ones. No, this is one of the... Instant. Lord, save me now. No. We're right, armor. Instant armor. My diet pool is eight. Your diet pool is eight. It's minus one because you're tired. It took us down to seven. I believe you had found your piece with your new, we were going to go down slowly by the event she said that you had made your piece, almost a band-aid ripping it off quickly and painfully. So you're down to seven dice, and I'm going to not do any other subtractions from it. So, seven dice. Seven dice. Good luck. I have two successes. Two successes, which is enough. I have five armor. Five armor. Nice. For my move action, can I put the guy that's still standing between me and this green goop? You could try to move behind the door. The green goop is spreading out, and if you want to get away from that, I want to get either him or the door. The door is black, it's covered too, so whatever. I want to get something between me and... Okay, so you want the other side of the door just in time for... Edgart. Drawing a weapon is an action, and then getting up would be an action, yeah? Yeah, I think drawing a weapon is an action, correct. And then getting up from prone is an action, yes. Yeah, I should one of these guys instead. From prone, you shoot F. Probably the one attacking Katie, who isn't. Laying on the ground. He's not dead. Down and out then? He's not down and out. He is down in pain, but he is holding his side and screaming in pain, but he's still very much conscious and very much a threat. Edgart's not a soldier, he's not good with executions, so he's going to shoot the other guy. The other guy? Okay, Katie's the only one you need to be concerned about, so what did you guy pull? There's seven, seven dice. Seven dice and minus one for your exhaustion, that's it. Okay, I'm a risk. Why not? Three dice, nine against, such as those don't matter to combat. Three successes, so far? Yep, just three. And your weapon? Just one more. Okay, so a total of four damage to the one who was already wounded. You shoot him in the neck. The cult is grabbed onto his neck with his free hand, sorry, the free hand doesn't have the knife, falls to his knees and is like holding on trying to stop the bleeding, attempting his best he can to remain conscious. I'm not going to do that. I stand up. Excellent. If no one's got any guns, I don't need to be prone. Right, Jay. I want to charge across the room, grab one of these guys and throw them in the division. It's my fucking plan. It's easy. It's my plan. Okay, Jay, you are. I mean, if it's not possible, because I'm pretty far away. No, it's not. It's not possible. It's that you're going to have to move across the greenness. The greenness. We'll call it the liquid gems. Jay has no expert in magic, but he assumes that it hasn't been triggered yet. So he does, he's running right across it. He could be entirely wrong. Okay, hop on the carpet. No, I'm not going to try this stuff by that. Is it still expanding? Yes. Okay. Jay, go ahead and make an athletics plus dexterity roll and tell me what your dipole is. That would be eight. Eight. Okay, dancing across this intricate design that is forming and continues to form on the ground of this room is minus three. Minus one for being one eye perception. I mean, like distance and perspective is kind of what I was going for and one for exhaustion. I've done the three. Okay, good luck. Got 10. So one success. So Jay, you move pretty much diagonally across the room. Gracefully, literally. Yes. Dancing, we say. You find yourself, those two cultists that are neck near Katie who is now behind that door are both in the ground. So you kind of slide into that spot and you can, I think the best. What I'm going to do is, since Daniel appears to be trying to grab the sky and do the same thing I was, I'm going to roll mine as an assist to add dice to him to allow him to do it. Right. I run about grappling. It's not possible. I'm not worried about grappling. You're going to try to throw him into. So what is wrong going to be in all where all those is assist dice for Daniel. Right. Daniel will be rolling a contest in strength plus brawl to try to shove the man backwards. So you're going to make a strength plus brawl and your dipole. My dipole is only four. So I'm going to spend a will point to make it seven. Okay. And you can at risk. So just spend a will point to make seven. And again, minus one for the perception and perspective of mapping out the judge distances as well. Sure. Minus one for your oxygen minus nothing else because you feel safe right at this moment from the green. All right. So five. Two zeros. And another zero. And I give Daniel three dice. Three successes. All right, fantastic. It is the cultist turn. The first one went on the ground. Rolled success. So he is clutching his side from the shotgun blast and also the bullet wound from Jay as well. But again, there's craziness in his eyes. So he crawls past the door. He tries to plunge his knife into your leg. And your defense is for his, it's minus dice. So he'd be miracle to do anything. He sinks his knife into the wooden floor basically and it sticks there and his hand kind of slips off of it and runs down the edge of the blade and he cuts his hand and kind of falls forward. He's just in very bad shape. The second cultist, the one who got shot in the neck is standing to his feet shakily, still clutching his neck and puts his shoulder into the door and then tries to hit you with his knife, which is just probably not going to happen. But that's what they do. Your defense is down to three points. Holy cow. He stabs you with the knife, but it only inflicts three damage, which you're glowing armor that you have to flex the knife off to the side. He stumbles forward into you kind of and you push him back and he staggers be still standing at this point, which takes us to the gentleman at the doorway. If possible, it gets brighter and it's almost to the point where now is distracting for everyone in the room and it's almost impossible to look in that direction, which would be south towards the hallway without averting your eyes. It's that difficult. The green continues to expand and coalesce into a very, very, very much completed symbol on the ground. It now stops. It keeps his hands raised and continues to chant. There's a cultist in front of Daniel, who gets a bit starting to be shoved by Jay, who's trying to help Daniel, but the cultist himself still gets to, yeah, and he attacks you again, Jay. So your defense was four? Yeah. It's okay, but I'm not really wrong. Great for the cultist tonight. One damage plus two for the nature of his weapon. So he stabs into you and you take three damage, lethal, and you too feel a coldness start to spread from that wound. Nothing. Katie, you feel it standing, you know, reaching its way towards your heart, into your arm. It was your left shoulder that got stabbed. You were sliced across your left arm and you feel the tingling. It definitely is an unnatural wound. Now that takes us to Michael Clay. It's chant. Is it sound anything familiar like what we've been researching or reading? Excellent thought. What comes to you and it was kind of brushed upon when you first interrogated the cultist that you had captured in the shanty town is it sounds to you so foreign that it strikes the mind. A word that was used by the cultist whose name I believe was Eli who you had captured the old gods. That's what it sounds like. It sounds just absolutely like no language you have ever heard before. It sends chills up your spine when you take a moment to think about it. Do I go do I lose my sanity because if we're talking about old guys, it would be cool if we lose a sanity, but we're not playing college. Do you want to I mean an integrity? No, I'm okay right now. You just it brightens you. I guess is what we're going to say. I think I stopped screaming for a rewind. Right. There was a necklace. Do you have it? Do I have the necklace that's the old symbol similar to the old Norse version? I believe you took it. The closely contributed to was like a very ancient Norse type thing, but it was again a symbol that looked like it was even older than that, but it was similar. Right, and that's the necklace that we took off of Eli. Correct. Well, I'm wondering if he's got a shield or some kind of thing that's prevent. I want to I'm going to take a chance and then put the necklace on and then I'm going to try to put a bullet through the bishop side. Excellent. I'm going to allow you to do one of the two because taking that close out and you know it has a class. But I'm not moving three seconds to put it on. You're trying to put it over your head. Do I have to wear it? I mean, I've got it. If you've got it that's different from putting it on perhaps. Yeah, like grab it around the gun. Yeah. Well, it's just like, okay, the hand and the gun. All right. Well, put it in there. Let's see if this works. Right. Go ahead. Fire. You're aiming for his head? Yeah, it was just like what? I was being cinematic. And you can aim for his head if you wanted to. Right now, my plan wants just to hit. Okay. How he dices my book play out. Should be the same thing ahead before I started with. I don't know, I didn't I risked willpower last time. So I'm. You could spend a willpower, but you can't risk anymore. That's the bishop. I want to spend. So what do I get again for spending? Three. Three extra days. So I have a total of nine. Okay. At this point, your minus one. You're tired. Takes you down to eight. And then he has or she or his his twerked. You say she. Yeah. I mean, Grace isn't here, right? Or is she? She means to give us clues. And then he has twerked up the light to such a degree that is actually painful to even look towards the door. I think we're like that. So I'm going to subtract three nights. I've just studied the sun for years. I'm the initiated into the secrets of the age schedule. I've seen great light. Since 19. What? Well, no, I like to get terrified. Yeah, thank you. 35. So I have a total of five dice now. Okay. Good luck, Michael. Bye. Good luck to you. Hey, is anyone here? What? There shouldn't be. No, because you just said that the center guy was collapsed. Yeah, Jay actually moved into right next. I'm right. Daniel. Daniel, but I'm going to say there's enough of a gap between him and the doorway that even Michael Clay can't miss that shot. I've cut trading. I know. I know. Even Michael Clay can't miss that. This and the bullet come on. I'm going to vote you remember there. Hey, thanks for your birthday. One extra. No, I'm not going to do that. That's okay. Okay. Well, roll your five dice and see what happens. Okay. I'll just keep it over here for a second. That's your emergency. Emergency dice. It all goes back. We got one zero, one turning in. To try success. Roll the extra dice. Roll the extra dice and see what happens. That wasn't zero. Roll back. It didn't fall back. That was it. That was it. So the end is a total of five damage. The bullet did not stop at the edge of the light. To the best of your knowledge, and it's really tough to see enough, but it looks to you as if it struck home somewhere. There's this white Bishop Stagger. It's a Colt 45. Sure. I think Stagger might be a bit much there. How about there is a ripple in the light? I think it's a fair stake. There's a ripple through the light, and then it continues. I want to get this necklace to you. Daniel, you're up. All right. I'm kicking this cultist into his boss's life. Okay. So it's going to be a contested roll. He gets a bonus as your giant. He should. He should. Yeah. I have a lot of strength. It gives me an extra size, and I don't know. Oh, size has to matter. Sorry, but size is actually how? What is this strength and roll? Strength has to have a ball. What's roll? How he does? I get an extra three, so. Why do you think of three? Me? Okay. Wasn't you or if you were risking or spending? I'd like to risk two. You risk yet in this comment? No. I'm just going to spend one. I'll get another three. Twelve dice. You're not tired? So I'm not tired. I think you can avert your eyes from the light. You're right looking. The guys are behind you. Those are the things. Can you say you're all strong for yourself? I'm going to say you kind of shield your eyes so you can't quite get the perfect push. I'm going to say minus, you know, you don't lose one for your being exhausted because you're giant, but you're going to lose one dice for having to kind of shield your eyes a little bit. So just minus one. I wonder what of my garage? Yeah. One said I will not move. Yeah. Got four successes. Four successes. He had one, so you've got three successes. I'm going to say that backs him up. We beat. Now he was pretty close to the door. He was pretty close and he falls back into the light and he starts to be ripped. No, nothing happens. I'm sorry. I wanted to knock into him to interrupt the casting. Right. Just I mean, sure enough, he definitely gets thrown backwards and do his wall through the doorway into the boss. I'll give you another ripple of the light, but he doesn't disintegrate or anything. He just closes his eyes because it's right for him too. Okay. Invoking the free action to speak, I say use the necklaces that the cultists have. Okay. That's what Michael Clay shouts up. It's Katie, 16 behind the door. Two dying men in front of you. Still alive though, still with weapons. Clotting your way. Well, one standing, one kneeling. I was thinking about tackling both of them. Yeah, why not? Let's just rattle. Let's be good into the combat. I want to grab one. However, if you're God versus their false, their false old ones, just trying to shut this guy up so I can't complete what he's doing. So I'm thinking, can I slam the door I have into the into these two? You can drive? I'm going to do that. All right. It's like right in front of me, I'm also just shove it and slam it in both of them. Okay. Back here's a bitch. It's ranked plus athletics, I would say. I also tell everybody to be contested. The knives have magic or poison, bad, which I want to risk are spendable. That's the question. I'm gonna risk one. All right, if you're risking, you get two advantages. Definitely one extra diet now. And I want to increase my chance of getting a success. And like that, again, I'm going to increase my chances of getting a success. Yes. Go ahead and roll your dice. What do you have first? Nine. Okay, minus one for your weakness. Tiredness. The door is actually blocking some of the light. So it's helping you. So you don't get a minus from the light. Go ahead. Roll eight dice to push these two gentlemen out of the way, pass the door. Two successes. Two successes. Three successes. Well, I ended up doing this. There's two people that are there dying. One of them gave assistance to the other to try to hold the door open with minus eight minus three because they're out of health. Totally. So they have minus three of their roles. They roll two successes. So you're lucky that you did the night again, because that third success got you over the hump. So you definitely damage them. They stagger backwards and fall. The one that is to your right falls into the room onto the green and starts screaming. The one that was kind of almost exactly opposite you was kind of going through the door with you. He actually got shot in the neck and stood back up and was holding his neck. He falls backwards into the doorway and the door kind of slams into him and the door kind of closes halfway or so, but he stopped it from closing all the way. You would have needed something more approaching and exceptional success to actually get through two people. And there's the third guy who Daniel just threw into the doorway as well, who kind of at the end puts his shoulder into it and stops it from closing all the way. So the door is halfway closed. Certainly better than you could have expected them in a circumstance of three cultists in your way, but didn't close all the way. That takes us. Actually, it should have been Ethan. My apologies, Ethan. Be actually slowly before. So I can see what through these goggles. You just see what looks to you. It's steady down or is it still growing? Oh, it is growing. At this point, it's past the height of wastes and getting towards like chest and shoulder level. Is that visible to everybody or? You didn't see it until you put the goggles on. Like when you put the goggles on, it was already like almost waist high. So you knew, well, you suppose that didn't just happen the second you put your goggles on. You're seeing something that you shouldn't be seeing. And again, you've got your cipher that's absolutely almost... I'm going to check that out as my movement or my turn, actually. And while I'm saying that this symbol is like waist high and growing, so everybody knows what they've already heard. Well, actually, I don't think you mentioned that it was... No, that's what I'm saying. That's what I'm doing now. Okay, so why don't you freeze it up if you don't mind so that because I have no idea what you'd say to that. I think we either. I just say that this symbol is like waist high now and growing quickly. So it's probably a gate. None of us see this. And none of you see anything more? We see this symbol on the floor. Well, you see them on the goggles on. Yeah, yeah. But yeah, you do see them with the goggles on. A giant glowing scary door that we can't see. No, but... So I had checking out my dislikes cube or whatever. It's acting very similar to the time you drove into the woods of the chagrin reservation. Like there's incoming? It's spinning and stopping and spinning and then glowing for a second with heat. And then with your goggles, it doesn't just glow with heat. It actually glows with a tangible glow about it where you don't see that if you're just looking at it. But it's spinning and glowing and it's acting of its own accord. And you've only seen this happen once before is when you've got what we don't want to read up too much. So it happened to you once before. Timey, whimey, wibbly wobbly. That takes us to double 16 edge guard. Well, no one left to shoot except through a magical barrier. Yeah, the door is partially closed, but there is a cultist that fell into the room when Katie knocked the door closed. So one cultist fell into the room. One kind of slid back with it the one you chopped in the neck previously. Yep, egg guards don't like good with thick executions. Right. You let somebody else shoot that guy. Okay, so you're standing up. I stood up last time. Yes, I mean you are now standing. Does egg guard happen to remember whether there's a fire escape outside the window? No. If it would have been made a point when you guys first case the room, someone said it, I would be all for it. But you can go up to the window and look. Egg guard does that. Egg guard, I have no idea if there's a fire escape. So you can either choose to roll three dice in on one success. If there is a fire escape, at least within falling distance, you know, something close, or you can spend a willpower and have there be a fire escape. I don't know how much power. Okay. And this is in a huge plan of mine. And they're old again. Nice. There is a fire escape. It's not necessarily made for this window. There's a fire escape on the building. So you'd have to open the window and the fire escape is maybe five to seven feet, like off to a side. You kind of have to almost lunge for it. So I'd be able to get into the room next to us. Probably. All right. I'm going to go flank. So I jump out the window. Okay. You go to the window, you look out, you see what you see, and you open the window. Right. Because it is locked. So that's the issue we do. You wouldn't want to leave it open. I don't imagine. I don't know. We're on the whatever. Second floor. Oh my god. I could fucking follow the ground. I can probably get back up to the second floor within one turn. I'm fast. You are very fast. I guess I'll jump. I open the window. Okay. Well, I guess I'm just going to take a shot at one of the cultists. Firerooms plus decks plus special teams. Plus your laser set. Give it a six minus one for 15. And we'll say we'll do that light. Maybe. Well, you got a shot because it's a little easier to kind of point in the direction and fire. I'm going to say minus one die for the light because you can really do it much easier and someone can with shoot the light out. Yeah. Okay. Go. I think I'm going to spend a little pound. Okay. So we get three. I already have nine again. Can I make it eight again? As I were. Sure. Like that. Three, four. All fucking tens. I really should have brought my notebook. I haven't been recording a die. What the fuck ever? It's been like two minutes of reform. Yeah. That's pretty fucking expensive. Don't be fooled. He has spikes. Very stringy. Five successes. Six successes. Only six. Damn. Oh, he definitely the magic plus the did you add your shotgun in there already? That was just a plus four. Yeah. Okay. Okay. This guy. Yeah. He crumpled. He was on the ground. And he took ten damage, which so his health, you know, his health filled with lethal, then he went down three aggravated on top of that. He's still alive and he's still conscious. He gets to roll his composure. I believe it is each turn to try to stay awake. In that line, just carry him, right? Can you go unconscious? No, no. The role of the stay awake is not affected by the room penalty box. All right. I remember because I was really happy about that. So his composure was three. I rolled three dice and one of them was a ten. So he is awake. He's definitely on the ground. You now move forward and do what? I try to grab the necklace that's on the guy that chews your shot. Right. He's going to try to fight you off. Now, he is this time. He gets room penalties applied to his ability. He's, you know, fighting, even trying to stop you, but he gets, he has eight dice. It's his role for two damage, but it's minus three because of his wound penalties. So he's down to five dice. I have four for brawling in strength and then three for will. So a total of seven. Minus two for your eye, minus one for exhaustion. Okay. We got four. All right. Shoot the line. Well, I'm trying to, but I have to get that. You're four against his five. He's trying to fend you off. Only one success in nine. So nothing. Nope. It's the light. So do you smash your willpower and shit? Yep. You could possibly do. And the green symbol has now stopped moving. It seems to be formed fully. It seems to be glowing, a deeper green than it was before. Almost pulsating, you might say. At this point, the one that cultists on the ground gives up the ghost. He just, he's holding aside. He just stops holding aside, stops moving. The one that's in the doorway, they got shot in the net and then pushed back in much abuse. He staggers to his knees, still holding his net, choking, spinning, but he can't do anything. He's just staggering to his knees. The one that was in the doorway, Jay, that dodged, he took up his action dodging. There's nothing else he can do besides move, but he can't really move. He's trapped beside his ally and you. So he just stands there and looks menacing, but you can't even see because it's blinding light. The entity that's chanting, the chant reaches crescendo on this the third turn. And well, it's going to be contested. So, let's see what happens. At this point, I would like to have everyone roll their resolve plus composure. Yeah, integrity plus composure. Five, four, five, four, four, six, six, everyone gets to roll their dice just the way they are. It's contested. I will tell you right now, the entity had 10 dice to perform this particular ritual and rolled five successes. Good luck to you. Hey, wait a second. Does he need to have line of sight? No. Can we roll power it up pretty much? No. All right. Good luck to you all. Okay. Good luck, sir. We roll and then wait for one second. We'll go around the table and let me know what you roll. Everyone done rolling? Either. One. You rolled again. I thought maybe you had like a 10 again. I had one 10 again. Jay. Zero. Okay. Katie got two. Michael. One. Add five. Two. Two. Edgar. Zero. Daniel. One. Those of you that failed the role, which was everyone except for Michael Clay. The only way to describe it is you feel as if your soul is being ripped from your body. And in a second, you blink and you find yourself in a hotel room that's abandoned, has sheets thrown over old furniture, inches of dust on the floor. It is the middle of the night just like it was before the spell took place. However, you're gone from wherever it was in 1935 that you were. This room looks completely untouched in the sense of there was no combat that took place. There are no footprints in the dust. There is no symbol on the ground. There is absolutely nothing but a dilapidated old ancient looking hotel room that looks like it's way, way, way past its prime. That's not the strange part. The strange part is that as you look upon each other, you are actually insubstantial. There's nothing but a shadow of a very dull or light glow of your appearance as it stood in reality. And Sister Katie and Daniel, who have both been wounded on the left side of their body, they're insubstantial, they're etherness, whatever that substance is that's holding yourself together at this point. It's starting to spin and swirl out into the ether as you slowly start to dissolve and you start to lose yourself as it even stands in this insubstantial sense. Michael, you are standing in a hotel room and there is a burst of light. All your companions are gone. The ancient symbol on the ground is gone. The entity, the cultists, gone and you take a deep breath and just stagger at the enormity of what just occurred and the door opens and Grace looks through and says, "What is all the screaming?" End session. Everyone gets beat for the session. Everyone gets a beat for creative thinking and excellent role playing during the combat. I'm going to give an extra beat to Ethan for early Barbra's dice throughout the night. And I'm going to give an extra beat to Michael Clay for thinking to use the ancient necklace to potentially harm the adversaries this evening. Thank you, please don't want to live. Yep. Are you guys hunting? Oh, I don't know. We'll do a shit out of you. Well played, everyone. You and Grace, didn't you? A couple. When he went and he took the necklace, I'm like, "Oh, this is too good. This is what you're sitting right next to each other next time I play." It was just too perfect. Thank you for listening tonight's of the night actual play podcast. We're in an interior room. That's so fun. I didn't draw in on this. So unless somebody's got, you know, someone wants to spend a couple- Dax not paying for one of those. Well, yeah, I mean, he's not independently wealthy. Are you? No. I don't know. I think there are any interior. I don't want to tell you that, but maybe. Okay, then there's a room. There's a small window, bar, in law, in magically protected. No, I'm kidding. There's a small window. And you're on six. One in the bathroom and one in the main room between the two desks. And the bathroom one is like fucking well sealed. Right. Is there small windows? It's not- This isn't a- I used the word opulent before, but it's not an opulent. It's not chandelier. It's the instrument. So, you know, there's some light getting windows, but they're pretty narrow. You could probably squeeze through if you needed to. Kind of windows. Okay. Chew, you moved? Yeah. Two? Can you verbally describe it for us, me and the fans? Jacket pocket, which you still have on, like a coat, because you're a proper English gentleman. Your blazer, if you will. Unless you have damage in your last three boxes. And I do. What do you have? One in your last third? I have three damage. I have three evil. Right. You mean, like your third- no, no. The other way. Oh. If your last box is full, it's minus one. No, I mean, I got my- He has two empty boxes, so it's minus one. I have four health left. You know. Yeah, you're looking at willpower. Oh, I'm sorry. You are correct. Then you're- Then you're fine. You lose one more, and then you- Well, I can- Yeah, two more. We got a danger. I'm not a strong man. The man's weapon down. Oh, wait. I can not trust my- I think it might be two. I don't know. I thought you were going to need it. I have a light pistol as two. Okay, it's two. I thought they modified it with the new rules, but I don't even know. Is it BB gun? Nerf. No, he impressively shoots him in the neck. The- You're glowing armor that you have. The flex- Yeah, deflects the knife off to the side. He stumbles forward into you kind of, and you push him back, and he staggers, but he's still standing at this point. You've got to get that melting upgrade. Yeah, it's pretty cool. They- It strikes the mind a term he used, French, when- French left, for what to play, yes. It is- He has torqued up, or she, has torqued it. His torqued- This is a private realm and besides, I'm agnostic. Excellent. All right. What the fuck was that? Probably mine, but I had it on here. We'd say that again. You said ten syllables. You want to say that again? And they're old, ten again. Nice. There's two fires in here. Which post-composer? Now, when I say roll, I don't actually mean roll, J. I mean, you have me the total of dice for resolve plus controller. Sick. Lots of- lots of- lots of both. You stop rolling? I rolled like 27 successes. What do you want? Um, there it turns. This is the third full turn. I had another turn. Or the fourth, actually, maybe the fourth. Hey, it's the third. I did three action. It was a gun in the order. Point blinking. Well, I'm going to use it on a floor fire. I think I only took one action. No, chew. I shot my gun and- Well, to be fair, you were- After them. Nine. So, the first turn, you did something else. You didn't shoot your very first turn. Right. You drew your gun and got rid of the aim at the door. No. No, I had a gun out before you. Yeah. You shot and then you jumped up on the bed. And then- There was a pillow fight. Well, that's right. I can't. We missed you on a turn. I think we missed you. Before this happens, you get one- before these guys, um, they read for a friend and you get one last time. I think all you have to do is throw a blanket over that big bright thing. It worked. I was like, whoa. I thought bad on that. Close the door. You saved your skin a little bit. No? Yes? Uh, if you didn't go bad, it wouldn't burn your skin. I'm serious. That bright. This is annoying. Stop it. This is a laser sword sight. That's why you need to use that laser sword. I guess I should have risked world power. I just spent it. Like a chump. Would that should have done Michael Clay? This is the ground. We'll watch you do this training. That's good. That's easy. Rewind. Thanks, Quiz. That's so nice. Is it my turn to go? How's it my turn to go? It is because it didn't do your turn. Uh, I got to skip. So I won. I shot him before you want to grab his necklace. I got you. Grace was here while you were going. Well, you got to rest. Yeah. Then since it seemed to work, I grabbed the necklace that's on the guy again. Okay, he's trying to beat you off. Once I get with our children. What kind of hotel is this? I'm going to be a dick and just a slight dick because I haven't been great dick a slight dick. Your eye again, because you're doing something that involves eye stuff. Not saying no, because this guy rolled like shit. Well, I rolled none. So unless he rolled a negative number, I failed. Uh, he rolled one pen again and then eight. He rolled two successes. So you reached a grapple. He shoved your hand away. And there you are, right in front of him. The entity had hand dice on his spell or his, I shouldn't say spell, but it's not called that. I'm or his. That's the same. My phone rings. I have reception. You know, morph names are hard. I went to a generator and I'm like, oh, he's fucked. He's fucked. I went to my names list of names that I want to make at some point, for a story or a character, whatever. I'm like, they're all definitely humans. Fuck it. I don't want to use the list in the book. You could also start to look at just foreign names, like Lithuanian or Eastern European names. Because they have good, strong, like, hard, consonant names. German German. I use Dane. Dane isn't the first name my character is Dane, because it's just. But one of them that I use that you own encounter is named Procom. Procom. Some good Polish names, you know. Right. Yeah, I'll catch you both. Well, thank you very much for the gift, guys. Sure. Hey, I want to get back in town and my life isn't so crazy. You'll get your six pack again. It's always my six pack for birthday boys. Didn't we want to leave this?
