Silverbell is back, and is she really going to show us what she can do?

[Music] Hello, and welcome to Night to the Night actual play podcast. This world of darkness story, The Sin Eater, was written and run by a storyteller Scott. And now, please enjoy episode 205, titled "It went okay in chagrin." Actual play begins 9 minutes, 44 seconds. [Music] Okay, we'll get started with the feedback. We had one bit of mail, this came from feedback@coptmpodcast.com. And the title is, "And out of the shadow comes feedback." Hello KOTF crew, I have been listening for a very long time, but was just content to sit around and lurk for a while. Hello, ah... Hi, how are you doing? Initially, I was curious about the world of darkness system that got me started. Right around when you guys were doing the Dresden world building. During a very boring and very dark time in my tech career, it was right when I was doing firmware updates, I won't bore you with the details. But to put things into perspective, I was able to sit down and listen to everything over the course of a few days. Must have been like 50 or 60 episodes. And if I recall correctly, these were the length of 40 plus minutes per episode. -Sure, sure. -That's a binge, yeah. Unlike the ones you now have that have more listener comments. Anyways, getting stuck with the short stride at work was both a blessing and a curse, as I got to experience your amazing work. What started as a passing interest, I was quickly held in place by the quality of the cast. The editing is absolutely a piece of art. And the warmth of the crew is something that keeps me excited whenever I get a new podcast notification next to the KOTN icon. Although I don't always enjoy the system that the nights have chosen to play, it has never once impacted the enjoyment of listening to the cast. Thank you very much to the entire crew, not only for letting us listen into your private time, but also taking the large amount of time it takes to actually produce it, instead of just recording at the table that so many other podcasts do. I have come to see the members of KOTN as distant family members, each with their own quirky personalities, "Uncle, I got this." And "Uncle" wasn't he seeing a B lady? I look forward very much to see what happens next in this weird time travel art story. Only because you guys seem to have weird things for names. My name is Nye, which is pronounced as N-I-G-H, like in "Night." Which led to a few humorous shuddings of "The End is Nye" whenever I am GMing. P.S. Happy Holidays. Yeah, thank you Nye for that email. And we appreciate him for a long time lurkers. It's hard sometimes to break out from just looking and listening and doing your own thing, to then commenting and sharing with us. So we certainly appreciate everyone who takes the time to respond. I like hearing from the listeners only because I think... I listen to other podcasts. And I get to the point where I listen enough that I think I know these people and I consider them friends, but they've never heard from me. Right, so hearing from the listeners at least gets us a little more even. I mean, it's not the same as doing 200 hours of... Wow, I mean, that's a marathon session. That's a binge listening event. It is indeed me. All right, back to the other feedback we had, just a few. Facebook on episode 203, "Tainted None." For I'mulous, Paul posted and said, "So glad I wasn't the only one who sang "Tainted None" when saying the title of this episode." Episode 204, "Two of these people are dogs." Greg Anderson posted and said, "Three things. One, great intro music for the none. Two, I spent about $300 so far through the Amazon link." All right. And three, "I want to throw my name in for the world of darkness and firebooks." OK. Done. We have one name on the list. What was the intro music since I haven't listened to the episode? Do you have a copy of it with you here? The episode? The "Tainted None" intro music. It was "Tainted Love." Oh, right. It was... I looked through so many different versions of it. There are actually a surprisingly large number over it. And the one I found was a karaoke one that it was just the music. And then in the background, you could hear the background singers chimed in and they said, "Run away." And then, "Get away." And those were the only words that were said throughout the only thing. And you really can't hear it terribly well, but I found it humorous that that would be the... Correct. ...in the world of darkness. Right, right. Right. Yeah. Back to episode 204, Steve Ella posted and said, "That must be one of the best endings of a session I've ever heard. The player's reaction to the information from the kids is priceless." And that's with the kids. Shattered. Shattered, man. Right. That's for Foster, also posted on 204 and said, "I can't believe that I said houseful of zombies. I got too excited and type faster than I was thinking." Also, the tainted lovebed for Scott's description of how lovely and pristine the church was was just great. On the Facebook... Yes. Thank you, Chris. On the Facebook main page, William Sanders posted and said, "I found the KOTN podcast when I first learned about Nominera and wanted to listen to it being played out. The two sessions in, I didn't feel like I was getting the grasp of the players behind the characters." I know, only two episodes in, but still. So I went back and listened to the very first podcast and now I'm working my way through. Excellent podcast, wonderful story and amazing players. Thank you. That took us a while to really get into the feel of our characters with that Nominera. We also have an iTunes review. Rachel's never read anything. Yeah. Let me read you'll do. I have to read it. That's the rule. Okay. Best AP podcast yet, Greg, from Philadelphia, five stars. Well, I'm finally caught up with every episode of this podcast and now have joined the sad throngs who have to wait a week for a new episode instead of being able to cruise through several episodes in a row at my leisure. I haven't been able to game for 15 years and listening to Night of the Night is the next big thing. It's hard to find AP podcasts that, one, have clever original storytellers and players who really get into their characters, two, demonstrate editing to keep to a minimum the side comments and laughing that take you out of the story, and three, aren't poor quality Skype session recordings. If you're looking for all of these things to look no further, or if a single podcast isn't enough, do what I do, listen to K-O-T-N first, then fill the rest of the week with other lesser podcasts. Great job, Knights. Please keep up the good work. Oh, other podcast. Yeah. That's it. I'm waiting for someone to post. I've been listening to you guys, and you're not as good as this other one. Yeah. You guys aren't as good as everyone said you are. I keep waiting for the negative feedback, but well, thank you, Greg. Here's one thing I might suggest. People that post iTunes reviews can say in their review who they want to read it. Oh, well, I want Rachel to read it, I want Scott to read it. It is, I want Scott to read it in his Irish accent. You know what I mean? I need laddies. Oh, really? I want to make a video. No one wants to hear that. I want to make a book here. Our name. Go on iTunes. Go on iTunes. Just say, I want Ernie LaPonza. Oh, yeah. Yeah. He hasn't been around since Chicago. I know. It's been, that's what we said. It's like, what, five years ago? It's been that long. Holy cow. He was a Korean war veteran, and he was half deaf, and he, yeah, he was rough around the edges. Was he from the first one? Shouldn't he? No, he was from Myers. Yeah. The Chicago one. We played the mortals where you guys were not hunters at all. I just read other morals. I think that's what we didn't even have any powers to fight back in. Back against everything. We fought it. You just arranged in the 40. All those characters died orally. They did not. You guys did fine. I think you're going to have everybody requesting Rachel read everything. That's the possibility, but we'll see. I mean, there are some fans of other people. I'm sure we should have, I think we'd all have our group of followers. Yeah, I feel like I'm the one who's most hated for this game. Wow, we're the darkness. They love you. They love you. They love you. You die. He was really loud about it. You have the character. You have the character. They love you. They love you. They love you. They love you. They love you. They love you. They love you. They love you. They love you. They love you. They love you. You have the one that I was able to write. You have the character. You have the character everybody loves to hate. Right. And is exactly how I designed her. Thank you very much. She wasn't going to be sympathetic. Anything else? Okay. Yeah. Only one more thing other than the reminder that, you know, how they season go out there and shop Amazon. Like, yay. Patreon. We're giving away another t-shirt. We're giving away two t-shirts already. This was to Andrew White and Greg Hutton. So we have one day together. Do you think they're on low? Yes, they're saying. Most of them want what they're saying. One of them changed one of the sayings on the back. As an update by the time this is out, one of them should already be delivered. The other one's being shipped out of the United States so I wanted to come to my house and then go out. So it'll be at my house and then back out the door the same day. Hopefully. Oh, we have another shirt to give away for the month of December and I'd like to do it now so that we can make sure they get it hopefully before Christmas. That'd be nice Christmas present. Yes. Whether or not it was on there. And the winner is? That will be for Tyson. So you'll be giving a shirt to Tyson for the month of December. Tyson, I'll be reaching you via email and we'll get the sayings that you want on the back. Congratulations. Thanks for your donations. We appreciate it. And with that, we will get on to the adventure. This is the world of darkness story. The sin eater, I'm your storyteller Scott and with us tonight on my right it is. Michael playing Ethan Clark, a medical doctor and native of 1935 with the checkered past. Tom playing Jay Alton, member of the ascending month and leader of the squat. I am Jim playing Kenio Connor, member of the Malius Melchacharum and Tinted Nun. Mike playing Michael Clay, the academic adventurer from the Aegis Kydorum. Thomas playing Edgar Montesch. We're doing the practitioner and a member of the living status conspiracy. John playing Daniel Morgan, a mountain man turn mercenary and next member of Task Force Valkyrie. Rachel playing Grace Rockland or Silverville, same old apathetic teenager. All right. We left off last week. I believe that Jay and Michael Clay went to start interviewing the parents of the missing children. The missing girl Edith is who we were looking at, the six year old lawn with blue eyes. So they just do the other nine and you can give us the results. What was her name? Edith. Edith. And so if I recall correctly, Michael, you had walked out of the lean to with a small handheld antique mirror belonging to their grandmother with a slight crack in the lower right hand corner. The mirror was cracked and the mother was strangely upset or unusually upset about the crack. And at that point, Jay was surrounded by a bunch of urchins from the Shantytown and you would ask something, I believe, about... Well, I asked them what type of games do they play and when someone's the bad guy, who are they? Right. And one of the children said... Just out of curiosity. Because I figured that children being closest to pure and uncorrupted, if there's anything supernatural going on, they're going to tie into it and they're going to use it in their games. If there's a bad guy, it's the boogie man and what's their boogie man? Right. They say Indians, originally. Yeah. But then when you press them for it, they came up with something or someone called the shattered man and that's what we loved it. So I believe the other group had gone to Western Union, had cased out to Western Union, had grabbed some lunch afterwards, had gone to pick up Sister Katie and ended up back at the Amsterdam Hotel. And Katie just had a fun talk with the priest. Right. And the rest of, I think, was it Edgard that mentioned, he's going to go back maybe with Ethan later that night to steal the whole damn mirror because it was too difficult to do at the... At the Western Union. There was a plan about... What? There's two different... There's two different mirrors. There's two different mirrors. They were trying to get the mirror at the Western Union and we found a mirror. So there was a mirror at the Western Union? Yeah. So it was one of those that are up in the corner around circular mirror and it was much too difficult to try to get a piece of or to steal while they were in a business, you know, while they were open. When they went to interview with a smother, they found a hand mirror that the mother had as well. So you might use your same trick on that because she disappeared the night and it was out. And there was a crack in the hand mirror. When there wasn't prior. When there wasn't prior. And the mother seemed to be very upset about that. And... The bad guys need to be the shattered man. So let's take it with Michael Clay and J. Alton. You're surrounded by urchins. They tell you it's the bad guy. You know, I bring Mr. Clay up to speed on that particular aspect we just found out as he brings me up to speed on the mirror. I do. And then... They kind of fit together. Anything in folklore that I might know about a shattered man. Or... Yeah, mares. Or... Well, I mean, some years bad luck, I mean, there's a lot... No, no, no. I mean, specifically, it's a being who travels through mares, or like, can you see them? And he was involved with bees. What are you talking about? Oh, my God. He was talking about every year candy man, we've seen candy man. Will he walk again? Oh, my wife loves that one. He was an old... Anyway... I don't want to digress. But it would fit in with you perfectly. And involves bees and murderers, so... Go ahead and make an occult role, please. Okay. Whits plus occult correct? That's a total of three dice. Three dice? Oh, I'm sorry, six. What are you looking for specifically, shattered man? A reference to the shattered... Okay, two dice. Fine. All right. For four dice. Two successes. Two rolls. Yes. And two tenigans. Very nice. Two successes. Two successes. The first thing that comes to your mind is a sing-song child's rhyme. That you're sure you either have read in a book, or heard somewhere, maybe when some to you when you were small, like most children's nursery rhymes, they're as scary as hell. In the darkest hour of the night, when children shiver with fear and fright, don't look into the mirror craft, for the shattered man might look right back. And if you dare, look in his eyes into the hedge, you solo-fly. Into the hedge. Another occult role, please? Hedge. Hedge. Hedge. Hedge. Four dice again? Or you want to take your money? No, you can go ahead and just roll our six. All six. One. Six. One. Six. One success. That's all you need. The hedge is one of the terms to describe a no-man's land, or some lost area between our world and the world of the thing. Ooh. It's called Arcadia in this world. And then the second thing you remember from your occult role, Mr. Clay, is there was an image that you're sure it was written in some medieval manuscript that you had access to at one point in the private section, or the restricted section of the Cleveland Public Library? Like an illumination of a book or a scroll. Something along those lines. It's hard to remember because it was a while back, and it was just an image that caught your mind, and it was of a man, very tall, thin, lanky perhaps, but made seemingly of cubes in sharp edges and seemingly to be held together by some sort of magical power. It was just a striking image from Remore of Time's Past that you looked at, and you remember the one page that it had written in Latin, The Shattered Man, and there was this really, really striking image of this creature that looked like a man, but composed of sharp angles and cubes and seemingly falling apart, but yet kind of maintaining a shape. When you say cubes, anything about the material was a glass, it was a medieval manuscript. Okay. So it was penning, you know, like a penning a drawing, so it was something along the lines of it. It was hard to ascertain what they were exactly trying to intimate with the picture, yes, Rachel. What exactly is the hedge again? The hedge is a nomence land, or an inventory, or if you will, between Arcadia, the land of the fae, and our world. So those are the two things you, they come to mind when Jay mentions The Shattered Man that one of the boys, the pain mentioned. And with my ancient history and access to those order of the scroll, you know, I'm probably more familiar with a lot of myths and rhymes that have a kernel of truth to it than... Sure. Right. Okay. I didn't even roll, I don't... No. I don't do that. I'm sure that with Jay. I'm thinking we hit the jackpot on the first one here, do you think we need to continue interviewing? How about this? Or we can go back and regroup and share this information, because my guess is that we're going to want to try to get you into the Cleveland Library to do some research. I don't mind. It'll be very interesting because I don't know if the library is going to be like what we remember it is. Well, your order is ancient, I'm sure they're going to have some... Well, yeah. Test. You're going to have to answer some questions. Yeah. But... But that's fine. That's fine. This is important. I have faith in you. Really? Okay. I think it's probably time to get out of this area. It's probably around five o'clock and evening at this point and it's summer, mid-summer. So it's going to be a wait until nine, but we have a long walk back from... Well, actually, I want to go back and talk to Marty Collins to tell him that we have a lead and that we're on the case and we have a pretty good idea who's doing this. Well, his field hospital on Jack Atill is actually relatively close to where you're at. But one of the reasons I want to talk with him is to maybe see if he has any information that we could use in addition. Mr. Clay, how much information do you think we should share with Marty about what we found out? Because he might have knowledge that we need as well. Maybe I'll let you handle that because you generally like to keep information close to... I'll do my best, but I don't know who this guy is and he is using dark magic. But what I'm saying is I trust you more to get information from him without giving it away than I trust myself. All right, I'll do my best, but I don't trust him. So that's what I'm calling him. Okay. As you recall, his field hospital was quite busy and he was preparing for an operation record for you left, which has now concluded and he does seem to have some downtime. He seems to be pouring over a small medical notebook or something along those lines, reading in a chair off to the side of his tent and his patients are all seemingly comfortable and he has some nurses looking after them and so he knows that you guys going back and stands to greet you, asks if you'd like a drink and if you found anything out. I explained to him that we seemed to have gotten very lucky on the first one and found out some information. It's a little bit out of my wheelhouse of experience, but Mr. Clay here might be able to explain it to you. Actually, I have a question for the GM, has our previous experience with Benjamin. Did we travel into the hedge? The maze we went through was hedge like. Yeah. It was a hedge and B. But I don't know if it was the hedge. But part of me, this is kind of spurring a memory, this rhyme and the hedge and it made me think of being stuck on the other side. You're definitely stuck in the in-between trying to make you wait. Well, that's my point. That maze, he had a small English garden maze, if you will, leading into his backyard of his estate in Ohio City and it certainly was 50 times larger when you walked into it. Remember, if you were panicking to get out, trying to get out and luckily he found your way back out the other side, was it hedge like? Absolutely. Did it remind you? Well, I think what Mr. Hedge, between our world and Arcadia, sure. Okay. The reason why I also bring it up is that I've been carrying around an artifact that I still don't know what it does, but it came from that place. So that might be something useful in case Marty Collins needs a focal point or knows something about this. Right. Well, I'm going to give him my artifact. Wow. Not bad. Sure. He turns his attention. You ask if you, their new gentlemen, would like some Irish whiskey. None for me. Thank you. Not surprised? Jay. Sure. All right. So he pours you a glass, two fingers, and the sink for himself and real hits back down and relaxes and says, "Ask away." Also, I would make sure that he drinks first before. Yes. Am I not with you guys anymore? Did you guys just leave me? Oh, you got a sick belly. Yes. Yeah. That wasn't very important as well. Sorry. Are you familiar at all with any type of portals or points between here and Arcadia? You stare at him for a sec. Right. He says no. He has not even really sure what Arcadia is. Have you ever been there? Is it near my? Let's not miss words. You are a practitioner of magic. How can you not know about Arcadia? If you do not lie to me, I will not lie to you, sir. I'm not lying to you. The only Arcadia I know of is in New York. I do have subterfuge, thanks. Sure. Absolutely. Just got us the same thing. Is it wits and subterfuge or? It is. To detect lies. It is actually apathy. Oh. I guess his subterfuge plus wits coming right back at you, like he could probably lie to me. Okay. Go ahead. Make your roll. It will break those overall higher wins, but he has to know what I'm rolling. Wits and empathy? Yes. Wits plus empathy. How many dice? Three. Three. I'm going to keep it at three. Thank you. Have you had experience with him before? Had you just been the first time you were meeting him? I would probably subtract it out. Okay. I have won one again. Go. Go. Go. Oh, that was so annoying. You've never met a more forthright Irishman in your life. Yeah. He just spreads his head out and says the only Arcadia I know of is in New York. Whatever. I practice as nothing to do with a place. Okay. Land. I'm there too. Yeah. You're certainly going to detect if he's lying or not. Give it a shot. And that is empathy. Plus wits. Empathy. You had one success or two. One. I thought it was one. Who's that? I have three empathy. Oh, wow. You are totally empathetic. I have to be empathetic. I have to be empathetic because I'm leading in new tactics. Seven mob empathy. Seven mob empathy. I have to empathize with you. Boom. And say quickly. This is going to hurt so much. Empathy and wits, wits, which is too. Little o5. Little o5. And you again have dealt with him before, so go minuses. Oh, I so believe him. Yeah. That sounds good, man. Good. You're all single, six times. Whiskey's good. Yeah. He's a little less. He's really tasty whiskey. You weren't looking at him when he answered. So it was just that. You had your attention elsewhere. He's a silver tongue devil. I might say that out loud, too. Well, let me know what you do. No. It's probably going to have adverse effects too. Yeah. Yeah, I agree. So he spreads his hands up here. How about this? You've spent a lot of time with these, with the children in this, this area. Absolutely. Have you ever heard their, their stories or their rhymes that they say to themselves or perhaps when they're trying to sleep at night? Oh, well, you know a good many fairy tales and nursery rhymes? I, I sing them all. Have you ever heard the tale of the shattered man? Absolutely. And he says it. He just, he reads it off from memory. It's a, it's a very fairly common one. Well, did you have any ideas about, in particular about the shattered man or the hedge or? I had assumed that it was nothing more than a child's tale to scare them into sleeping at night from their well meaning, but misguided parents. Well, Dr. Collins, I, I don't mean to doubt what you're saying, but again, I've witnessed you perform magic. So you are aware of the other side of what is, it happens in reality here. Mr. Clay. Here, sir. Could you perform some blood magic for me right now? No. Could you tell me how one goes about performing blood magic right now? No. I could. Could you tell me what I could do besides heal people with my blood magic? No. So I could tell you, sir, that you choose to use implements of evil. You choose to use power that is granted from dark forces, and you perform rituals that are demonic and they're fundamentals. You just, you know, you dispute that. I dispute none of it. All I'm saying is just because I practice a form of magic doesn't mean I know everything there is to know about any creature of mystical nature. I'm not saying you should know anything, but I would imagine that you would see that there is somewhat of a link between a rhyme that suggests, perhaps we're getting a little off in the argument. He doesn't see in the broken mirror. It doesn't. Mary, I believe lamb. Am I supposed to assume that we have lambs? I believe Mr. Clay is trying to say is that you as a practitioner know that words have power. And that's awesome. Yes. And that our myths and our fairy tales are actually a sugar-coated version of a much darker reality. Absolutely. Couldn't agree more. Good, sir. However, the shattered man is not an entity that I believe to be true until you are seeming to try to be confirming this at this point, which I'm assuming you believe them to be true. The children in the neighborhood think that that's their big, bad man. Sure. When they play games, that's the one they call it. Belief has power. We have a mirror that was sitting over the child's bed. It was not broken before it is now and the child's missing. This is something we were hoping you would have more information on. I can see now where you're drawing your conclusions, but I mean, I can inquire and ask about, but it's not something I have. We have other ways of gaining knowledge and we'll be chasing those. If you can get in touch with us at the hotel, if you find anything out, we would appreciate it. Sure. I'll send one of the lads to run a message if anything comes up. I put Michael back on his chain and pull him away out of the room. You people. Magic. One last thing, Dr. Countless, as well I acknowledge that you seem to be trained to use your powers for good. The end does not sometimes justify the need. He's saying this while I'm pulling him out of the tent, of course. Oh, by the way. He replies seemingly not in anger, kind of keeping his composure that we all use the tools that are available to us. Can I shoot him? No. Let's go. An hour or so later, you arrive at the Amsterdam. Okay. Everyone meets for dinner in one of the dining parlors that are off to the side so you can have some privacy. All right, we bring everyone up to speed on what we found and we get a sitter up from everyone else. And I did nothing. We're going to have to go back tonight. It's way too big to steal and if we shadow it, we don't know which piece to grab. And tonight I would like to go back to the church, see communion, help cleanse myself and just crap that thing just. Okay. I want to point out. And I would like if somebody could go with me to see if they could talk to this priest with me and figure out if he really does know about my conspiracy or not because I got a kind of a bad five per month so I didn't really want to talk to him too much about it. Okay. According to this pattern, a child's going to disappear tonight. Is it really time? Something that you guys brought up that was interesting when you guys, when you were describing the child's house and the area and the tent area, is you guys kept mentioning how neat and clean everything was? Is that the way you guys describe the beat people's houses when you were investigating them back? It's true. That's true. But I think that was more of a- They usually need to be psychically cleaned, which I guess- They can only be as cyclical a king as they can in the- Right. I mean there was still rubble strewn about and something just was somewhat more kept up than the rest of the shanty towns you had visited. That definitely was a level of improvement, but you wouldn't say that it was overly clean or- You didn't see them obsessed with it. Right. Actually, the beat people I got more of the impression of, they didn't really live there. Yeah. I mean, it was empty, so. As much as I'd like to steal this mirror tonight, if the child's going to disappear, I think that's where we're needed most. First of all, to try to put a time on the child's disappearance, it was after the love drunken men went to bed. So it's pretty late in the evening, I'm assuming. Right. We might have time enough for Mr. Clay to go to the library and research, because going up against spirits without having any clue of what you're doing has gotten us fucked over routinely. Danger shit. I went okay, sugar. We all in. Nobody knows. In what world did that go? Okay. We're in 1935. Okay. Yeah, it sounds huge and there's thousands of kids in that thing. Right. There's got to be some way to narrow it down. I could narrow it down, if you hand me the mirror. You want to trade it for the watch, aren't you? No, actually, actually this is a direction that I think I was going to suggest. Right. And that was, we may not need to go to the Telegram office and get that mirror unless there's some power and purpose that we're there for binary hacks. Well, no, it's not necessarily for binary hacks, but my thing is, when you deal with spirits, they are powerful, but have a weakness. Is that not true? That is true. Well, Silverbell may be able to help us use this mirror as a gateway to get to the spirit. We're still going to be outgun and outpowered unless we know how we can affect it. The terminology you've heard before, Jay, is things a ban. Like for instance, if you bleed on the ground for a particular spirit, that they're banned, they have to stop and they have to lick it or they have to stop and clean it or something. Each spirit has something, some rise more than one. But that's information. And in the last Silverbell, well, I don't actually know what you do with mirrors. So we have this mirror. What can you give us? A gateway to this or information about this spirit? I've got no problem letting her look at the mirror and share her information with us with the idea that I hope that she will share information with us. Second, Daniel's right and tonight's the night. And if the rhyme is accurate, we have until about, I think, three o'clock in the morning, which is the witching hour, the darkest part of night. Also, instead of trying to wait around to see who the next child victim is, we have a young person who can look into a cracked mirror and possibly draw them the spirit in towards us. And again, that's perfectly fine and a wonderful idea, but do we want to do that without knowing how we can affect the spirit? No. And that means-- Hold on, it's a lot of grace. You can't do that, can you? No. I can't. I can't take you there. I can show you exactly where they are. Who? Oh, the kids. No. Both. If you really want to know. First of all, I think we need to secure wherever we are before we start doing anything. We need to kind of get into a relatively safe place, pose some security, or take some precautions, so we're not interrupted or observed. Let's go up to the rooms. Okay. I'm fine with that, but I need intel. We can't--knowing where this thing is, and the girl is, and the children are, is wonderful. But if we're walking into a situation where we're dealing with a spirit, we damn near got clocked by the time spirits, and we had knowledge of what the ban was in that case. That it was pictures of-- Maybe silver bull can give us a lead of information that I can go to further research and try to uncover a ban. But time is-- Can you help with that? I probably will need help with it. I just don't know what--I don't know if I have the same authority here in this time and place that I had in my time and place. Where are we going to go? I have a contact on the library that might be useful. I'm almost afraid to say that I have contacts to the library too, but they might be in my office. Is it like you two have a plan here, and where you're going to go? So Dr. Ethan? And Daniel? Daniel is-- Daniel is-- Where are I needed? I would like to hear what Grace or something like. What back do we call you? Scared. You want to see what call me Somerville? All right. Daniel. There's just one of the radios with you, and I'll keep one of the other ones. Justin gives you some emergency. Do you mind the veterans? If you have to use it. Not for them. Where are kids? Which kids? Yes. Your kids. That was another consumer. They were still being taken care of by the nanny at the Hotel Cleveland. I can't go over there and get them and bring them here. That ain't going to work. I'm not sure there aren't any of them. But, right. Someone should bring them over to this hotel so we can keep an eye on them. Do you think you can attest that there were mirrors in the rooms? Cover? Might want to. Yeah. Wouldn't a consecrated church be the place to approach this? I mean, if we're going to call out some demons. All right. That's got it. Have to call out any. St. Michael's forever. We're formatting a plan and they still don't know exactly what Grace can do with this mirror. If you could give us some general overview of what... I can't draw him out and I can't bring you to him, but I can show you exactly where the shadow man is. You can see their other sides of the mirror. Why were Edith was it? What did the child do? Who's the mirror was? Okay. I can show you exactly where she is. You can see what's reflected on either side of the mirror, into the household and where the shadow man came from. As Edith? Or the shadow man looked into that mirror. I can show you exactly where they are right now. Okay. All right. Why don't we do that first? Because you going off to the library and then us finding out information that you might need, Mr. Clay, wouldn't be very useful. I agree because we don't have phone service here and it's killing us. Well, we have radios, but we can't limit it use with a battery. And limited distance? Yeah. Right. Just not self wrong. All right. What do you need? Other than the mirror. What's that? Shall we go? Whether there's a little privacy in the room? Sure. Yes. All right. So you guys pay your bill. It's about 6.45 in the evening, about 45 minutes of discussing what had happened at your two locations that you cased and going up to the hotel room now, submitting the girls hotel room since it's Silver Bell was going to be doing the ceremony. The ceremony. All right. Well, you can go ahead and describe the ceremony for us. Good luck. Because everyone's going to be standing around launching in. Relatively useful. Sure. One of the chances that her looking into something, you can look back. Anybody? Well, it can't. It looks through shadowed mirrors. That's good. It may only grab you doing this. Yeah. I'm sorry. I thought you were saying, but really that's it. I could bring him. No, no, no. Yeah. I'm saying you're looking in and saying him. There's a chance. He looks your mares. Yeah. So, well, we might be valid that the sister might want to set up some protection, some protection. I can do that, too. Well, I'm not an expert in this boss, but okay. Is this time manipulation or is this magic or what? Because she might be looking at what happened, not really experience it in actuality. You know what I mean? But she would know better than I. That's not to me. Like, she doesn't look at what's happened. She can just tell you who's work person is that looked in it before. Right. He's asking if you're manipulating time in the mirror view, or are you... I'm looking at exactly what is going on in that person, in that present moment, when that's the mortal world or the underworld. Yes. See, that sounds dangerous to me. Or other worlds. Only in the fact that he could be looking back and he could know that you're looking. He can look back. He sees you when... No, that's another guy. Just don't look him in the eyes. It doesn't really matter if you can see right now because he can only come through. Why don't we worry about trying to look for Edith instead of a shadow man? If you're worried about the shattered man, look at you back. We're not looking for him as in for her. So, yeah, looking for her might be a little bit safer. Then looking for her. Yeah. I mean, that's valid if you want to look for Edith. But if Edith... That way not fair. If Edith is with him and he detects you, my fear is he comes flying through the mirror and we have to deal with him right now. We have no information. It's a shock. We need to make a warning circle. I think a warning circle would be great. I think the sister could also... I don't know if we need both or if they'll even work together. Edgar Montes, our resident Bluetooth specialist, has actually a good point. What's that? The rhyme says, "Only during the witching hour." We should be concerned that he can see us. The darkest hour. Well, we are going to warn him maybe, but he won't be able to attack us. That's at least comforting. And eventually we want to set a trap for him so he may as well know what we look like. Okay. Did Lord of the Rings come on yet? The movie? His egg guard wouldn't have read the fucking books, but they did the thing with the paladin. And it worked. And we show that. Yeah, 2011 paladin. Definitely out by then. She was written in the 30s. Well, yeah, but he doesn't read. He's watching movies. Just as a reminder to the GM, I am a beacon to spirits, so... Yes, you are. You should probably not be in the room. I can't really. What is the sister's whole power with the protection circle? What exactly can she protect us from? Like, to protect anything that wants to harm us, it'd be not as powerful, but if I can say something more specific, then it would be a more powerful. I just draw out an area. Is that if it wants to enter her? The sister is going to be more effective than mine. Alright, sister, you're on. Go. Hold on. What? Doesn't it matter where you draw the barrier? Because you can draw it around this room, but he's not crossing through that barrier. He's crossing through the area. I think it's a barrier. I think it's a barrier, I think. My circle protects anything that's inside the circle. I don't have one that protects, like, it's anything that's inside. So even if he's inside, even if he, if I'm looking into this nightmare and he tries to come out at us, for example, he wouldn't be able. She's the young one. So this is just protecting her. She is firstborn. She's... Magic as hell. I'm not scared about whether she's in danger, but I'm not the magic expert in it. Well, other than what's in books. She needs to make that first before I... We don't want it to go through. Go ahead, sister. So it's like a lot of bloody wishful thinking to me. If I have a dramatic failure, I can draw them right in the mirror. That'd be awesome. This whole apartment going on. How many do I see a room? Wait a minute. We're trusting... It's just like Katie's dice rolling. Yeah, and I got him. We do the one who ordered him. I am a tainted nun. Yes, you are. So I have minus three. So I have minus three. Minus three. Told you all about his actions. So I'm rolling with... Oh, yeah. I think this is a pretty standard ceremony for you, so I'm not going to subtract anything. Suggest again that it might be worthwhile doing this off-site. Off-site how? Like not in a church? Not in a church. I mean, why show whatever where we live? I've been wanting to go back to talk to the priest. Anybody have a problem going into a church? I don't know if he's going to let us go into a church. How comfortable would the church be to let us? I'm wondering if you should be doing it where we're currently residing. That doesn't make a lot of sense to me if he's able to see through and we're able to see through how much information do we want to give him. I'm guessing as little as possible. I would only offer that based on what I know of consecrated ground, it may not even work on holy ground, because it's already a barrier that you couldn't open it up. That's why it's safe. That's why it's holy ground. That's why it's safe from spirits because they can't get there. They can't get there. I know a way to test that. I don't want to... Let's just open the door. I have all of them. Yeah. Please. That hurts. This is really interesting. I'm not trying to... I'd like to look at the mirror, please. I've already given her the mirror. Right. But she's waiting for the okay for everyone. We're trying to make sure she has a safety harness. Don't go into the light. I'm going into a room. Making sure there's no mirrors in the room. You can handle yourself. There's mirrors all over this room. Sure. I mean, there's a couple of minutes. I'm covering them up with that cheap cover. Okay. Blocking everything. That... And then... Doing your ceremony. Doing it. Five days. I'll roll out one, please. Just so we're clear. Ethan is given a warning. You are... Just not... You... Are deciding to ignore it. Go ahead. Here comes the hellmouth. That's all we're saying. Yes. I don't want to hear next episode of how it was all you could solve. She's like, "Let's do it." I'm like, "Okay. Let's do it." Make a circle. And... So, if you're risking willpower, what are you doing? What are you adding in? More dice. More dice. How do you need more dice? And... And... Three is critical. Or nine again or... How about nine again? Okay. Go. No. Two successes. No. Two successes. Oh. Two successes. I started praying. And... You guys see a success? I got two successes. One of them is in the night. Any night against? Yeah. One. There you go. Two successes. Oh. Oh. It was there again. Okay. So, two successes. There is... Ostensibly a magic protection circle around you now. Okay. And you're doing the... The distribution. Okay. The mirror. The mirror was... The mirror was... The mirror was... The mirror was a personal possession of the target and reflected their image many times plus two dice. Oh. Nice. Me too. The mirror or another surface that reflected the image is cracked, minus one dice. That's it. So, go ahead and make your roll. You need four successes total plus. You can... Each look takes one minute at a time. So, you stare in until something forms and you get to roll again after one minute if you don't get the four successes. Go ahead. What are successes again? Ten. Eight. Nine or zero. Which is a ten. Green shaded. As well. As well. Tens mean you get to roll one of the failures over again. It's called ten again and you get to roll again. This is a six, right? With the alignment... It would not be a different color. Yes, that's... Okay. So, I got two successes. Two successes. Ten. And again the others. No, ten again. So, for one minute time, she stares into this mirror with an intense focus and a minute passes, which again starts to get after a little while, even when it would be quite accessible. Everyone starts at... Is this a strange sort of thing she was doing in the corner the other day when she was... No, she... Because she's not talking this time. Yeah. She's absolutely laser focused on the mirror as opposed to arguing with her self. Internally. Go ahead and make your second roll, which would be two minutes of time. Is the mirror still a mirror during this time? Yeah, it still looks like an absolutely normal mirror to you. My favorite part of magic is to wait now. Okay, I got one and three roll against. Okay. Three zeros are a success as well, so that's four successes. That's right. Great. And, but you get to roll three over again. Because you might get critical. So, you might get exceptional success. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I got one. Another nine. That makes it to five. Okay. So, one roll, you've got five successes, which in this game is called an exceptional success. And it actually says underneath your power, an exceptional success, you gain the successes that are rolled. If the target number is reached, which you did, the image depicts motion for the next minute, much like a video image without sound. Now, my question for you, Silver Bell, is they cannot see anything in this mirror. Only you can see what's in the mirror. Do you, would you prefer if I told you in private or would you like, like, are you giving them a running commentary while it's happening? Private. Absolutely. Private. So, excuse me, gentlemen. Bunker. What was her last name? Bunker. Oh, watch. Sure. We just didn't want to put you in danger because they were going into the- Oh, no. Nope. That is, and Mike kept trying to steal your watch. Even though you weren't there. You were throwing me under the bus. One. I didn't know. First of all, you saw something hanging on your pocket over there. Did you steal it? Did he steal it? Did you try it? It's a plant. Did you put that in there? You saw something like this. I don't know what. I put it on a table. I don't know how to do that. I put it on a table. I put it on a table. I don't know how to do that. I'm afraid. I'm afraid. I'm afraid. Hey, Michael. Clay. I can tell you, with all honesty, I did not steal your watch. Stuff. It's like my daddy. It's true. It's true. I can't lie. Yeah, that is true. I can't. I put it in his pocket. Anyway. I'm sick. I'm sick. What do we need to -- I mean, should we check out -- actually, we should ask him if she was sick and we left her in his care, I think -- No. You left her at the hotel. We left her at the hotel. Right. I would love for her to be here and be partaking in this, but unfortunately -- You just had a headache and it was feeling queasy. Okay. Sorry. Scott's description. I had a headache. You never met a more forthright Irishman in your life. That's a contradiction in terms, isn't it? Well, isn't that a table full of -- I don't know. I married one sort of a -- so he -- he's not an Irishman. That's what I'm saying. Sorry. Hey. All are accepted. All are welcome in the light. Didn't know. Sorry to interrupt, but did you guys get a beat when I wasn't here for the last session? No. Okay. There was no beating. After you have five beats, what does that mean again? One experience. One experience. One experience, one experience, one. Okay, so I know how to do that. And that can then be spent on improving your character. Go ahead. Okay. All right, let's go. All right, let's go. Sorry guys. That's right. We have pencils over here. Yeah, if you look. I'm going to make sure. Right. We, I mean, like -- thank you. My brother. Do you like blue, yellow, or green? I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. Let's get this guy. I'm a fan of green. I was a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. I'm a fan of green. So, I'm a fan of green.
