Roberto is on the hunt for something, something powerful. Is it related to the rituals? Or is it some new enemy?

KotN Acutal Play Podcast - 172 DFRPG - It's in the Cards
(upbeat music) - Hello and welcome to Night So The Night actual play podcast. This Dresden File Story Rituals was written and run by a GM Tom. And now please enjoy episode 172 titled, "It's All in the Cards." Actual play begins five minutes, 57 seconds. (upbeat music) All right, so what we're getting into the episode, the first thing I'm gonna talk about is the QCC, which is a convention in Buffalo. Queen City breakfast. It's a convention in Buffalo New York. It is run by Chris and Mark from The Misdirected Mark Podcast. And I do intend on going. I also put, they got a Kickstarter that tried to raise the money to have enough to run it. This is their third year they're running the convention. So anybody who plans on attending, just joining the Kickstarter at the 30 year above level and you get a ticket to the convention. So you're kind of pre-buying your tickets. So if anybody wants to meet at least me from the night to the night, I will be at that convention. - Where's that at? - Buffalo, New York. On to the other feedback, we have Google Plus in which Joshua Growsko said, "Yes, this is gonna be a good Friday." That was stated because I put it out on Thursday. I was out of town. The first couple days I was out of town. Michael Barrett also commented on Google Plus and said I finally got caught up on all your episodes this morning. And now you go and do this to me? Ah! I went back and listened to Sugar and it ended really well. Nice job, all. Looking forward to hearing more. Oh, and the rituals has been awesome so far. Love me some fate, thanks. - Thank you. Thanks for the nice feedback, appreciate it. - I already posted and said, "And Tom, I even gave you some slack for being late." Greg Hutton said, "Pointed some new Dresden File RPG players toward your podcast. If there's a new listener named Orgert, he joined because of Greg, so thank you and welcome aboard." We also got email from feedback@kyotmpodcast.com. Matthew Osborne said, "Hey guys, I've never written to a podcast before, but I felt thanks was due to your crew. Several years ago during a late shift house cleaning session, I needed to find something to occupy my mind while I was trying to adjust back to working night shift. You see, I'm a cop. And while by themselves, some cops are geeks like me, but as a group, they can give any angst written high school football team to run for their money and mercilessly picking on guys who enjoy an occasional tabletop game. That being said, I was looking for something to listen to and had just downloaded the Dresden Files RPG. I found delivery and I had a blast listening to it. The recording itself is well done. And as almost all fans have mentioned, the editing makes it. As a fan of the Dresden Files, I really enjoy hearing another story created in that setting. I went back and listened to shit luck and I've been listening ever since. I want to thank you for putting the time and effort and of doing this podcast. While it might be a small thing, the distraction and the fun that you provide to me and the rest of your listeners cannot be measured. - That's very nice. - Thank you, Matthew, and thank you for-- - You're happy to be a cop. - You're such an easy job. - No, it's a tough one. - One of my oldest friends, we were friends since kindergarten. He's a police officer. And he found out that we're part of this podcast and he's been like, okay, so what's the name of the podcast? And I haven't told him because-- - I know that I'm opening up a world of hurt for myself with this guy. - Why don't you stick on yet? - Oh, absolutely. - Because we're still like the kids back then, but-- - You're still high school? - Well, you know what, you have the oldest friends that just, you know, everything you've ever done, so it just doesn't go. However, I bet as a cop, he'd probably appreciate the episode where Scott interrogates me as the police or as the investigator. - Unfortunately never-- - Right, but never recorded. - Oh, that was never recorded, that's right. - That was the Chicago, the one shot of Chicago. - So learn the world of darkness system. That was a good one. - It's just that I'm the kind of witness you want to have. (laughing) - Cracks, a great symbol like a footbeat. - We had one iTunes review, it was five stars. Four runners, 093 left a five star review titled "The Best Way to Darken My Day." The first podcast I've ever subscribed to in almost two years, and it's still worth every minute of my time, is a pizza delivery driver. I'm on the road a lot, and without you guys and gal, looking at a mansion. - Thank you. - Not a mansion. - It's been like a week. - Oh, what? (laughing) - I probably would have snapped long ago. Every week is like Christmas, when you see what great goodies are in store. Great work, keep it up, everyone. Patiently waiting for the return of the world of darkness. - It's coming. - So, yes it is. And that's the only mansion we had of Rachel. I'm disappointed in our fans. - Well, she's happily new. - How many times has she been on the actual-- - One whole episode. - One episode. - We have one episode. - She had a little chance. - She had a very small part at the very end. - Right. - She had to do some stuff. - Her fans should be really good about talking to girls. (laughing) - Man, wow. - If you stare, you're typical, then the majority of the guys here are married. (laughing) - I'm just saying. - Despite all odds, despite all odds. - This next episode that follows this Rachel plays a much bigger part. - She gets some shining moments coming up in the stories. - As we go forward. - Also, thanks for the five star review. We always appreciate those. We only had a review in a little while, so. - Absolutely. - And thank you for delivering the pies warm and fresh. - All right, and with that, again, the Amazon link is kicked back up and we're getting some money flow, so thank you for everyone who's using it. You can find it on klptnpodcast.com, and with that, we'll get on to the episode. I'm your Gian Tom, and this is a Dresden Adventure rituals. Players in attendance might rule the shy, but the players that are here, starting on my right. - I'm Michael, playing a reppe, an antiogenic organic alchemist. - I'm Rachel playing Zelda, an American gypsy who uses the war of her past to construct the future. - I'm Jim playing Edlyn Shadowsky, a rich businessman in black, cork-powered cyan. - I'm Scott, playing London Dios, a moral seer to the supernatural powers. - I'm Thomas, playing Maxwell Edison, an undercover homeland security operative. - I'm John, playing Roberto Martinez of People's Guardian, and powered by a following agent. - Okay, we're gonna start really quick by saying anybody who wants can do a minor adjustment to their character, move one skill level up, and corresponding one down, that's always an option each week. In addition, you're not gonna do a total refresh because we're in the middle of a cliffhanger while we play class, so we're going to stay with the fake points we had. - If anybody used them, they're still used. - I think I did, I think I'm down before. Thomas, do you mind handing me the fake points, please? - One of the things I was thinking about doing, I even forgot that we were in a cliffhanger when we kind of left off, was one of the reasons why I hooked up with Repa, is to come up with ingredients to add to the foods in my restaurant that are legal. - In certain states. - Legal in certain states, they're illegal, but that affect the way you feel, the way you eat, I mean, the way they affect you in a certain way, but they're able to eat. Even if it's just chocolate, people want a good movie stuff like that, or caffeine. - But you did mention in a previous episode that he also obtains things for the other restaurant. - Right, right, and I was thinking that I could have tried an experiment during the dinner here where I was thinking what would have been a good idea, is like, let's say-- - Are you trying to explain why Mike's not here, you knocked him out or something? - Well, no, no, like I was thinking that maybe fake coffee puts you in a weird mood, or has a really particular taste, but is dangerous for humans to consume. So I had Repa come up with a filter, that's supposed to filter out the bad part of it, but still leave the flavor there. - Mike, I was testing it out on the people unknowingly while we were in dinner. - The unknowing dinner. - How do you like the coffee? - It's like a-- - And then maybe it could have affected when people felt, or not felt. - That's a good suggestion. I think Tom has an idea of that. - I actually do have an idea on why. I mean, that could explain Bob, but he really didn't have him, because Bob's not fully-- - You can't hear from money. - He's not very funny, he ducks up. - No, I just mean he doesn't have any ties into the group where if shit got real and it started a fight, he would have no reason not to hide in the corner and say screw you all. - Yeah, I agree. - He's got no ties to any of you or something else. So we could just say that. - All right, you're gonna refresh our memories. - I will refresh our memories. What happened last week is you were all sitting and Mr. Edmond should ask these. - Restaurant and you were discussing different things, you came together pretty much as an entire group, all of you, with different reasons to be together. Mike's character, Alan, had created a bubble of silence so anybody outside of here is mumbling and you guys were discussing delicate matters. - When suddenly Roberto just jumped up at the table and started heading at a speed. - Yeah, out of the room. There was no explanation. His chair just went flying backwards and he had it for the door with a look of what? - What was your look? - It wasn't panning, determination, anger. - Did he have a party on the end? - Concerned, proper concern. - Sure, all these things, I was very kind. - I'm just saying, what would they see when this happened to you? I mean, what could they take from, you just suddenly threw the chair backwards and ran out, but, I mean, are they like? - First you widen his eyes and then he just realized when he was running away that shit he has to go and he just crit his teeth, flip the chair over and ran out the door. - Did he have a phone in your head? - In his pocket, maybe. - Did you say anything? - No, he wasn't on the phone, he wasn't talking. He was just talking to everybody and you just say, his eyes suddenly went really, really wide and there was a look of-- - But he didn't say anything when he left. - No, it was like, either what the fuck are, oh shit, or something and he just bolted out of the room. Everybody should make an initiative at all, based on your alertness or dice plus your alertness. - Do I get to the top, whatever my score is? - Yours is the top 'cause you initiated it. - The prize, bro. - Yeah, that's valid, you should still roll for initiative but you get a surprise round. - It's a four dice plus your alertness skill, which I do 9/2? - Which is zero. - Which would be, so. - Starting at the top, we'll say, anybody have seven, is that it's unlikely but six? - Five. - Five is Maxwell. Four, three. - Four. - Four. - Four. - With your best Zelda at three? - Sorry, regardless of three. - The burr is also at three but you are-- - You also have a surprise round. So Roberto is out the door first. - Well, actually do you wanna roll to see how far you got? - Okay. - That would be for her again, an athletic roll plus... - Were you here? - Oh yeah. - I could join a fine aperitif. - Which is why I rolled so low. - That's pretty wide. - Exactly. - I got minus one. - Not very far. All these chairs. - Yeah, his layout is not yet finalized. There's not a flow here. There's no Feng Shui. - Zero. - So you get all the way down to zero. - No, no. - Can I miss somebody? - You're one? - Yes. - It means one and London is, once again, almost always only concerned with themselves so they're four. - Listen, no clue what's going on. - So they can spoil a fine piece. - That was myself rolling fire in my chair. - How far does he make it before the next? - He actually doesn't even make it out of the room. He is stumbling over chairs and knocking chairs out of the way. He's not, you know, the minus one, which is, there was a poor attempt to get out of it. So he's headed for it. - I have so much chairs and tables in his sampling. - Now remind me again, Edmund, your layout. You guys are in the normal, normal area. - Yeah, are we about a upper ground floor? - The main restaurant for the average everyday person is just right off the street level. - Okay. - And look, the-- - High class individuals are-- - The underground. - That's for the fay type. - For the fay and-- - So you're actually at the street level, too. - No, there's one main floor where everybody eats at and it may have some party rooms or separate rooms in it, but it's all on the main one floor. And then if you go around back, there's steps that lead down to the underground, which is where the other restaurants are. - So even though you're in the higher ground, you're on main floor, you're on the floor? - Yeah. - The floor level. So there's no stairs here? - The higher ground is, the higher is which-- - Well, it's higher than the lower. - Right. (laughing) - Okay, gotcha, gotcha. Okay, so with Roberto having trouble getting through this-- - Hold on. As I reached the door, which I imagine I am able to at least get that far on my turn, is your place up to code? - It is up to code, yes. - Then I'm saying, they're called to say that there's a fire axe in one of those great glass things that's smacked open and grabbed before I head out the door. - Yeah, you have your movement and your action. Your movement is a failure to get out of this zone. It normally requires one you rolled. But that actually, I think there's a default of at least one, is there not? So you actually get to the door, you punch the glass in and you pull out the axe and you step into the street. What time of day was it? Does anybody recall? - Yes, it was just afternoon. We were having lunch. - Okay, not the best time to have a fight. - No. - There's something in need of action. - So you all see this occur and we'll just start at the top which is Maxwell, you are the fastest to react to what just happened. - He's out the door. - Well, he's just like in the door frame. He's right outside the door. You can still see him. - All right, I'm scanning the street. It's not my turn. - It's not your turn yet. - But yes, we assume that. - Roberto, did you spot something in the window that we should all be aware of? - I think I'm gonna wait till my turn and I spot something, I have to answer you. Because I don't really know what I see out there. - Do you have a bank of windows that you can see the street from your building? - Yeah, you can see. - So when I turn around and trip all over these chairs, did I see anyone out the door where this power was supposed to be? - No, and the reading you got from it wasn't that it was right out in the street. It was like off to the side. So it was-- - Like an alley or down the street? - No, it was definitely close by, but this is a situation, I'm trying to remember that particular. There's a small, isn't there a small-- - Closer? - Like where the restaurants are across from the market, there's a little square area, but there's no traffic coming here, there's no street per se. It's just like a dining area in addition to a walk area where there are restaurants along the way. And what you're getting when you step out in there, you're seeing actually quite a lot of people because it's like right after lunch and most people are heading back to work. And you're getting a sense that it is like off to your left and maybe slightly in an alleyway between buildings. You didn't see anything, but you didn't roll either. Your natural ability to pick something up did not pick anything up. So Maxwell, you ask him a question, he's not responding to you, but he seems to be looking-- - Pearing, perhaps. - Yes. - Definitely scanning to his left out the door. - Then I said Maxwell, follow me, and I'm not moving anywhere, 'cause it's not my turn to hit, but-- - Follow me. - Presumably you can get out. - You're in movement. - I can get out of the room. - I guess I'll step out of the room and try to see what's going on. - All right, so without a roll, you can just be where he is. That's a minimum of one. But if you wish to go farther, which is what he was doing, he was trying to go farther somewhere. - Yeah, I am. - Sure. - He's definitely looking to the left and apparently pointing to the left. - You can go a little faster than me, this is very unfortunate. - He really is. I have no idea what I'm looking for. - I'm gonna look around and try to figure out what it's looking for on my first. If you wish to go farther than just one zone, you must roll athletics. - I understand, but there's no where for me to go. - This might not be an issue if you don't roll. I have to go anywhere. - My athletics is fucking insane. - That's fine. - I know you're a super negative two. - See, that's still eight, positive five. (laughing) - That's insane. - I could be all the way down the fucking street. - You could be downtown square. - So that's basically a role to keep up to wherever he goes to on his turn. - Right, right. - You head out to the door. He is looking to the left. If you want, you can turn to the left and as you're going to the alley, he would scream, "Allie," right? You can go to the alley. - That guy in the alley. - Okay. What you see in the alley is, it's kind of dark 'cause there's buildings on either side and there's a lot of shadow going on and it's winter and there's not much light anyways, but there is some hulking thing in the alley farther down. - Oh shit. - What is concerning is that it seems to be slightly larger than a human. And it definitely has more eyes than a human does. - Oh. - That would be fun. As in, two set of what looks to be like a glowing, bluish green and above it, smaller set of red or orange. - So you've moved and more than one zone, so in that case, you really don't have what I was gonna do. - Yeah, something like shoot or attack. - And then it's Rocha's turn. You have now seen two of these new friends. - I don't go before that. - Yeah, actually you go right after Rocha. - Is Edmund within site where you went? - We're all stable together. - Oh, okay. - We'll work until the two go down. - Is there any handguns in this fine establishment? - There's all one behind the bar. - In case of what? - I don't think you need to add a fae plank for that. That would be reasonable enough. - And they kind of plan that this is gonna be a safe house so I was gonna have definite problems. - I would say it's probably of the shotgun nature type thing rather than a handgun, but that's up to you. - There's no chord grounds where I think the conflict is gonna happen eventually. - Now, if you're saying that you want ammo of a supernatural nature, that's probably gonna require a role. - I think it's just a regular loaded handgun. - Okay. - Say this one behind the bar. - Good enough. - Yes, may I. - Wrap up, wrap up. - I asked you, may I? - That's why I'm letting you know where it is. - Okay. - So I go get it loaded. - All right. - Let's check for a minute. - No, actually, unfortunately, there was a bartender behind there and he seemed very befuddled on what's going on. Otherwise, he would have reached underneath and thrown at his-- - Two points to him. - No, no, he just, I just mean, he can't help you. He's sitting there going, "Uh, what, what?" And instead of reaching, grabbing and throwing to the stride type thing, it would have been really cool. He was not that cool. He was hired. - What takes a full turn then for him just to get the gun? - Yeah, yeah. He would require you to go walk around the bar to kind of like, shut him away and grab the shotgun. He's looking over at Edmund's, nodding his head, it's fine, yeah. - It's a handgun. - Is it a handgun or shotgun? - A handgun. - Okay. - I don't know how well you know the layout of the place. - Really fairly well. - Because there might be a way to go out that come around the back way of the alley or something else. - I think something here to help out with the food preparation and the idea of something. - Okay, so you know the kitchen and you know the back entrance. So that is an option as well. - Might as well try that way. - Okay. But the whole turn was you going around the bar getting the handgun and then kind of heading towards the kitchen, but not getting there yet. And we are down to Zelda and Roberto at the same time. You guys can decide who wants to go first. To be clear, I don't know any of you except for him. - Right? - And he just messed us. - Right. - And he went and just-- - He asked for a handgun. - And he got in his door behind the bar. - And so, I mean, I don't really have any incentive to follow anyone anywhere. - Oh, and this is curiosity. - Right, but at the same time, my best weapon is to stay invisible. So, and I just came for lunch. - Right. - Yeah, you might try that back out. - I was in the alley rationale. - Right, he's gone already. - He's the only one I know. - Right. - I don't know any of you guys, and I just came to eat. - Just look at the back. - Okay, so you could, in fact, make a stealth roll to just hide here in case there's something going down to make yourself a little inconspicuous and draw this attention. - The only thing I've got going for me is driving. - Okay. - So, she could make a stealth roll? - She could make a stealth roll to make yourself blend into the background more, or you could legitimately try to hide somewhere so that you can't be spotted. - I don't even know enough at this point to hide. - Right, I'm just gonna make a stealth roll. - Okay. - 'Cause I'm just gonna hang it up. Plus two, and I've got four, great, so. - Six, it's fantastic. - So, you kind of blend into the scene-- - The afternoon crowd, definitely not being noticed by a casual observer, and Roberto did what? - Do I have to sprint to the other way? - The distance from the door to the alleyway would be one zone. You would be on the-- - I can cross that without surrender. - Right. - Then I do so, and then just notice the creature that went there, 'cause he hasn't moved yet, right? - He has not yet moved. - No. - Then I throw the axe down the alleyway into the beast. - I throw, would be weapons. - So, because it has four eyes and power, it's automatically a beast that needs to be killed? - I'm not sure. Just saying. - I'm saying, if it's that big, it'd probably take an action. - No, something else informed him that it was dangerous, and I'm saying that I don't know. - You don't know that. - Right. - It's in? - Not sure London. - Yeah, I don't know why I was doing this. - Because you were informed, D.O. Whisper, that something very powerful and very dangerous was nearby, and that it could help you find it. - Dangerous, isn't exactly sinister, I'm dangerous. - So, I took this axe. - He is dangerous. - Wait a minute, you just argued that it might not be dangerous, so you throw the axe. - He's impulsive. - A little bit. - Something we don't understand, kill it. - Yeah. - I get a plus two, fair. - What did you roll on your dice? - It's a minus two. - All right. - Fair. - Wow, that's a lot of minuses. You guys are right. It's just, I use the blue dice again. - There are bad dice for you. - There are minus three plus one, so it's a total of minus two, however, it defends out of five, which is superb. Minus two, that takes it down to a good. - So, one above three. - John said one above John, so he-- - I'm gonna say I'm a guardian, bitch, and hit him. - I am the people's guardian bitch. - What did you protect those two? - Which gives him a little bit. - This is a monster in the middle of a higher city. - You're not using that as a re-roll, you're using it as a plus two. - Plus two is all you need. - That's all you need, which gives you plus one. So you do one stress damage to him, plus the weapons. - Bonus, which I would say, an axis. - Let's say it's a three. - And you did one higher, so that is a total of four. Unfortunately, it kind of seems to, it doesn't bounce off of him, but there's obviously something that's allowing you to take less damage. It has some sort of defense. - Right. - It not nearly as effective as you did. - I hope to grab this. - No, no, it took, yeah. - How far away down the alley was the creature? - I wouldn't know, but just what I, for the theater stuff. - For the scene, for the other characters. - Sure, it's 20 feet or so. We're gonna throw some aspects out there while we're at it. The zone outside of the alley is crowded and noisy. The zone in the alley is dark. It is cramped. It's got-- - Trash bins. - Trash bins and other things that are-- - Oh yeah, I have inhuman strength. - What about that? What's your opinion here, this confrontation then? - It is kind of loud out there. I mean, people are talking and they're headed back to work and there's nothing that has come out of the alley as yet. There just seems to be-- - Dead. I have inhuman strength. - You do have inhuman strength. - I think believe that it's tuned to whatever damage I do. - Yes. - In the end. - Oh, excuse me. - It says the other inhuman. - The weapons of this. - Just dark and cramped. - Had enough of cramped spaces today. - It's the creature's turn. - What speed is it going? - What did the axe do? - It goes after Roberto. It's a three. - They fall to the ground or stick in the monster. Where's the axe? - It stuck in the monster. It's a pretty, four is a pretty decent shot. - That would hurt. - Where would the axe? He still wanted to hit it with it again. - It's a creature's turn. It grabs the axe, pulls it out, and comes charging down. Who is the closest? Did you get farther into the alley, Maxwell then? - I was a little bit faster than he was, yeah. - So you're a little farther down. He comes charging down the alley. He has four arms, and as he gets close to you, you see that he's definitely got features that are spider-like, especially the eye thing. It's really freaky. He grabs the axe out of its chest and just swings sideways towards you in an attempt to go either knocking you into the side wall, the same wall that the restaurant sat, or to chop you a good one against the wall, whatever the case may be. - I'm gonna try to talk and roll a little. - Okay, his attack is the same as his defense, which is five, and he rolled an even, so. - You rolled a five. - I rolled his attack four. - Is it time to spend a fate die to avoid that damage, or are you gonna just suck it up? - You only have five of them. - I wanna figure out how dangerous this guy is. I don't, uh, really? - You're gonna, what if he's really dangerous? - Yeah, he bads you in that. - Dude, you have five fate points, and all it takes is one, two, or two. - What you see on his hands as well, 'cause he's dropping the axe after he hits you, because the axe is actually slowing his ass down, he has got humongous claws. - Oh, so the spot? - I don't come any less dangerous, it's good. - No, he actually would do more damage if he had hit you with his claws than with the axe. Like, substantially more. - I think that claw hurts. - Also, for the record, why don't you give me an alert, Mr. Rolm? - Okay. - 'Cause it's dark, it's ridiculous, we're gonna say. - Probably would require a good roll. - I roll the minus one, and my alertness is good, so the fair. - Plus two, total. - Yeah. - You're still shadowy and-- - Yeah, so you really didn't notice anything in particular about what's going on. The weapon is three, and he hits you with one, and he has mythic strength. - Oh my god. - Okay, I'm gonna dodge now. (laughing) - Does he get to know that before and dodge, or not? - As this may kill him, I would say, yeah, that's fine. - Is that the real roll, or, I don't mind him, I don't want Maxwell to die, so, but is that the rule? - It's my role. I mean, this guy's swinging with such strength that he's probably gonna need to remodel his wall. - Right. - So, everyone, what did you pick up? - He's gonna know, and admit it is part of the wall. - It's the wall, it's the wall. - What level did you pick up? - What level did you pick up? - You see his arms are like-- - The highest. - He is in a human, there's super human, plus six. - Well, it doesn't go higher than mythic. - Well, fantastic, it's plus six, so what? - Oh no, mythic is just, it's a creature. - It's a power, as far as I'm bound for it. - Oh yeah, I was discussing these are like, power levels for creatures. - I'm a whole lot of security operative, and I've been swung at before, I know how important it is to dodge and axe. - Well, I could say you're saying, I'm on my security, therefore I have combat training. That's enough, go for it. - That's-- - So, there's-- - So, it's plus two. - 'Cause I don't wanna walk around. - 'Cause I want to understand, too, I'm a little foggy on the fate system. Can the creature now, if it had a fate point to say-- - I need to mention that. - Right, so now he has to come back with another-- - Well, Maxwell is currently one higher than the creature, as far as-- - So, he has avoided the blow. - But, I mean, that one. - The creature has to have a relevant aspect. I'm sure a four-legged wall-smashing creature has aspects that he's good about smashing things. - One of his aspects is he's a fog. - I was just wondering if we get to know them. - Apparently, he's a thug. - Now we know things about him. - So, does that take him one ahead of Maxwell now? - Yes. - So now, Maxwell has one of his fate points, which he has more than one. - Oh, it sucks. - Yes. - Find another aspect. - I don't have any other aspects. - What aspects do you have? - By trouble, which is I didn't think that through, which would apply for, you know, not dodging. - I think that applies. - What did he hear your surprise? - What did he say? - You didn't think it all the way through. You charged him a fucking alley for no apparent reason, just 'cause you felt like it. - I think that applies. - Yeah, yeah. - Absolutely. - It absolutely applies. - I'm totally down for applying, I'm just-- - Yeah, I think all the way through, I'm going toe to toe with a huge tree. - I know we were all eager to get to the combat and the system, but we could have thought this out a little better. - I can't grapple that thing. - Oh, I wouldn't suggest it. No, something with-- - An arachnid. - No, you don't want to be a mythic arachnid. No grappling, please, please. - He swings, he misses. You manage to get out of the way. The axe had come through the side of your building. I mean, this guy's got mythic strength. This is a god or an equivalent. - Does it go flying across the-- - No, the bricks do, though. It's like a strap metal that just goes into your restaurant and paints all over the place where the axe isn't embedded into the wall. - Would myself and Zelda still in the restaurant to a lesser extent, a wrap up? 'Cause he's further away by having an arachnid. - So you guys would have the arachnid kind of roll? - Would probably have to roll to avoid the strap metal. I'd say it's just an average roll because it doesn't aim specifically at you. - What is that arachnid? - So when it's kind of blowing in, you have to achieve higher than a plus one. It's athletic. - Man, well, that's hard for London. - Come on, Jesus. - Oh, I'm sorry. - I can say it as well. Yeah, we'll go around the table. Once everyone's done wrong. - I got hit, I got hit. - Let's start with Rachel. So she's, we'll go around a story. Zelda, excuse me, yes, my bad. - Yeah, I'm hit. - Okay. So would you roll? - Zero. - Zero in what's your athletics? - Nothing. - Okay, all right. So you got hit with a wand. You take one stress in your physical, your first physical box on stress gets marked off. - I got a zero as well. - I got an average minus one, zero. - Okay, you take one damage as well. - And I just brush it on because I got it. - Oh, you got armor up, sort's okay, good enough. - Correct. London is not athletically inclined. - No. - So he is zero, which is mediocre. And I rolled a plus three on my roll, which ended up being good. So London swirls his apertive and his glass ducks underneath the shrapnel and takes another set. - Picks up a menu and decides to throw something on those lines. - London-like. The warden is sitting there at the table with you as well. - Sure. - And just gets pink pink hit with two of them and then you kind of look at him and it's like he's not there. He's sitting there in a trance. Zelda, I'd like you to make a roll for me. Lork. The difficulty is, let's say fair. - Plus two and then five, so seven. - Wow, epic. You've actually seen his behavior, Alan's behavior before, in that when you're watching him, his eyes are rolled up and all you're seeing is the weight of his eyes. His eyes are open, but they're down. And then you see his eyes come down and they rock it back and forth and around and then they roll back up into his head. And it's just a very weird behavior, but strangely enough, you've actually seen it before. And it was one of, you can't remember who, but it was someone in the parent who did something similar when they went into a trance. And you can't remember specifically unless you want to make during your turn a contact role to try to remember who it was and what they were doing when they did that. What did you roll? - Seven. - That's really impressive. So we're gonna say that you get spending on that bad boy. - I wouldn't say yes. She should have spent on it because that is an amazing role. - So we're gonna get two points because that was way above what you needed. And what are we gonna call this aspect? I've seen that before. That's what we're gonna call it. And you can only use these if it's roll events to what you're trying to do, which is in your case, where am I seeing that before, or so those go in the middle of the table and you can use them freely at any time to add two-year-old or whatever. - I can't use them to understand what's going on with the situation as you know it. - So we are then down to Edmond's turn. - Well, I was gonna say, how do I know if they're an alley or not? But that question has been answered. - I'm guessing we're sitting toward the back of the restaurant near the kitchen, which is probably closer to the alley. - So I'm grabbing sushi. - You gave us shitty seats. - I was gonna say this is a good question. - I wanted to get, we were talking about stuff, but even when you want to privacy, you want to privacy so we are away from the front. - Okay, valid. ♪ So it's gone downstairs for one more ♪ - London, Pigeon and Mona down. - Oh sure, there's a draft, whatever the fucking door opens in the kitchen. - And you were doing what? - I'm going through the kitchen and into the back alley, I'm probably-- - Okay. - What I was planning on doing is grabbing it. - Can they step through the hole in the wall? - No, it's not that big. - Okay. - It's not a Kool-Aid man-sized hole. - I was, oh well. - First off, to move one zone is a free action and then you can do another action. - So one zone will be the kitchen. - So one zone will be the kitchen. If you want to move from the kitchen to the alley, or the outback, and then around the alley, that would actually be three, which would require you to make an athletics roll, and it's all you would do this turn was to move those three zones 'cause you're running fast. - Yeah, and I'm probably not gonna be able to do it, but I'm gonna give it a shot 'cause I don't have that. You got a fake point. - Yeah. - It kind of leaves you and Zelda with a warden who's sitting there going, right? - I'm right in here though. - First thing about what we're going to my breath and what the hell is he doing, trying to smash to another wall? - Yeah, it is Roberto's fault. - Yeah, no idea. - Well, he has no idea. - No, I agree 'cause it's an axe coming through the wall. It's gotta be Roberto. - I got a plus one, so two. - With plus two, that means you get through the kitchen and then out the back door into the back alley, you have to steal one more to get around there. So you've gotten pretty far, but not as far as you would have liked. - If you insist, I'm getting there. It's possible by spending a fake point that's relevant and you'll be there, but that's up to you. - He might as well. - Okay. - I'm using the difference between-- - Try and try and triumph is a little oomph. - Yes it is. - I'm using a little oomph to get around the corner. - And then because it gives him two-- - Right. - If he gets around the corner, he's at that point. - No, he's gonna move in his movement. He's moving fast, he's running fast. It's not an action per se, but you almost run, in fact, you could, if you want, run into the back of this thing. But, yeah, you're talking a gorilla-sized dude with a spider-y kind of features. - Not unless I could do damage to it. - Yeah, you don't think so, it would be more of a like-- - If I can't punch it or hit it or knock it to the side-- - Not unless you have a special stunt that would allow that, I think, max will hit. - And since everything kind of happens the same time, you probably could see its arm, like, went through the restaurant. - No, no, no, no, no, no. So now you know that he knows it's freaking powerful. - Yes. - And scary and mythic. - You have the voice whispering in your head again that you're seriously outclassed there. Seriously, I can give you more power. - You told me I need to take care of this. - No, no, I warned you it was here. - I'm gonna take care of this. I can give you the power to take care of. - I already told you all about a character by the end of this one. - You gave me enough power. - Okay, with that, we go on to London, who is-- - Well, still enjoying this. - Yes. - By Dubonet Rouge. - You just make the words of it, as far as I can. - It's an opportunity. - So-- - Again, another word you just made up. - I swirl the glass, take the last, I drain the last bit of it. Look towards the warden, because that's my concern now. - Yeah, you would assume that the warden would be jumping into action. - Right, this is-- - He is-- - Unusual, but-- - Little bit older. - Going down the corner of my-- - He is taken out by, I don't know, he's just not there. - He brought his sword. - I did, he does have his sword with him. He does have his cloak, he's a warden. - I take a quick glance down to my vest. I take a quick look at my compass, and I wanna see if it's like pointing right towards where that act just came through the wall. Thinking there might be some activity, there is it still pointing towards downtown. - You expected to point to downtown Cleveland, you know where you are, you know where downtown is in relation. - Yes. - Actually not, but it's not pointing towards the alley either, it's pointing towards the back of the building. - Concerning, disclamating for things. - Disclamating for things. - A bit confusing, but I smack the warden. - Give him a good slap across the place. - Yeah, one thing. Wake up, because I have no skills in this area, and I saw it work on some form films I watched once, so I just smack him and hope that he comes too. - I think it's gonna take at least a week, or that to work. - Right. (laughing) - It took you to roll over in the audience, Alan, is of course not here tonight, but. - I'll be happy to roll to hit him. - Oh, please, let's see how much damage-- - I mean, how hard do you want to hit him? - Yes, this is one chance. - To me, this situation seems to be spiraling out of control quickly. - Really quickly. - Now, one is not wanting to get flustered, which is why he finished his Apertive before he smacked. Mr. Alan Montgomery-- - So we don't wanna wait. - I don't wanna, plus, I don't wanna see him, it just seems very-- - It seems like he had a leader in his wall, I had one-- - Can't he be running around? - No, for the record, he dodged. That was not his turn. - Yes, his usual action. - It's not something about drinking. - Right, yeah, so I just, oh, you do, I do finish the Apertive, but then I just reach across and smack him with a plus one, not being the most athletic individual. This would be what skill? - This, it would be fist. - Fists? - Fists. - The skill you don't want. - That isn't a whole thing. - Something still-- - Yeah, sure, it's not on your side. - I would never select it at my character sheet, so he goes into average plus one. - So I just-- - He has no defense because he can't run out of the way, he's simply-- - But this works, I think. - He doesn't even work. - There are lots of films. - And everything on the movies is real, so it's gotta work. It apparently has no effect on him, that you can tell, it's just, he kind of rocks back a bit, his eyes flicker down, dart around really quick, and then roll back up into his head. - Sometimes he smack them towards. - If I may, I then reach to the salt shaker on his hand. - Okay, that's all I want to do. - We left full circle, we're back to Maxwell. I'm gonna leave, but this is a good fucking lot. - Yes! Let me just-- - Yeah, that was an earth-shattering hit for me. - This is getting me my hammer. - Where? - We're truck. - Good, I go get the hammer. - Okay, you move fast, so let's see. Closest place you could have potentially parked here. - Well, probably that little parking lot beyond the great park company and the wine bar. - Okay. - So, what are we gonna say here? - We're gonna wanna get back into the square area, the square area, and then-- - I imagine the crowd is offering some sort of boundary, a little bit of an increase in the difficulty of getting through the crowds and whatnot. - No, maybe, maybe. So, we're talking one, two for the crowd, three struts the street. - And then the parking lot. - Four for the parking lots. Let's go, quickly, you can get to the parking lot. (metal clanging) - That's a positive one for a total of eight. I get there and back, hold on, fuck it. - Okay, so, also, we're gonna say that Roberto said, he wants to take his car. - Axe, and tosses you the keys, or do you just keep it in the back of, no. I mean, how does he get into your car, or is it to pick a truck so it's sitting in the bay? - Yeah, it's in the back. - I'm gonna give it to you, you're there and back. I mean, you are moving at some really epic speed, crossing the road twice that quickly and the action of picking up the axe. - Well, it was there in four back, so he's one away? - Right, I was gonna say, we're gonna put you, like, almost back to the alley, but you're one's own away. So, you've gotten there fast enough to pick it up and come back, but not quite fast enough to get into his hands. - Right. - And we're then to Raba, who is heading, you're in the kitchen or heading towards the kitchen? - Well, I want to determine where this hole in the wall appeared. - Yeah, it was behind you, but I made a quick glance and you're like, holy shit. - That gives me an idea where it is now, so, whatever way. - Where you are now, the quickest way would be, you went behind the bar, so it would be just kitchen one's own, back alley, and then side edge, so three zones. - Do you have anything that my employee says? - I was. - Okay, right, yeah, I think he skills it when he applied to Raba's re-zones. - Rousing him? - Trans. - Well, when I was gonna rule, I was actually gonna probably scold you for snacking him. - Which was quite appropriate, sure. - Right, I guess I would say from my lore, I know he's in a trance 'cause I've seen it before, but just from, well, you know, you can't rouse somebody. I'd probably have some click about. - This isn't a movie. - Yeah, not everything you see in movies is true, London. - Would you know whether or not it's a good idea to rouse him out, is he doing this on purpose, or is being done, that's where she's gotta figure out with her context. - Right, exactly, so that's-- - I'm just saying that London's looking to you and saying, did you mention you were a doctor? That would be, I could do that as a free action, so I would mention it 'cause I think that she did mention that when she first came to the table. - Used to be. - Between slaps in the face. - Right, yeah. - So how exactly do I use these to figure out where I've seen it before? - If you were to spend your turn, it's just your option on how to spend it, but if you were to spend it to try to roll the contact is to remember the person, you would say I would use that. - You can only use it once, right? - Yeah, only once for a roll. All right, we were on Repa's turn and your question was, again, the quickest way would be one zone into the kitchen, one into the back alley, and then one into the alley itself, so it would be free. - Okay, and what about just guarding the front entrance? Like, there's concern that it was coming inside. You're already in that zone, so that would be setting up a potential maneuver to say if something-- - Well, how about if I go-- - Evidently, evo comes through the door, I'd plug it and you can give yourself a plus two. - Yeah, I'd do that. - Okay, then I would say the difficulty for that would simply be something fair to find yourself at a good advantage point that you can get yourself a plus two on the next option that did something came up of that nature, and the skill that you would use would probably be gun because you're trying to set up a good avenue to shoot. - Okay, my gun's just four. I didn't fall over, I missed, so that's a lot. - That rolls nicely. - Well, you could set a thing point to re-roll that entire grouping. - If you think it's that important, or you just wasted your turn. I mean, it's not gonna be a detriment to you 'cause you're trying to get into a place and you realize that, Jim's, it's fucking furniture everywhere here. - Look at this one. - It's not in way too crowded. - I would say it's not giving you an opportunity. - I would say there's patrons like heading out the door like what the hell. - Right, people anyway, there's no clear shots, you're not finding the right spots, you just wasted whatever, five seconds, is this going to the next one. That's, or if you think it's important, I think it's not a fake one. - If you end up spending a fake one, it's just gonna go right towards that roll. - And you could be wasted if nothing ever comes through the front door, this is the option. - I'll just do nothing. - Okay, well, it's exciting. Okay, I'm doing something, I'll pick. - Another question, really quick. - Sure. - So, do I have to go any specific order? Do I have to remember where I've seen the trans before? - No. - I'll find out how to get them out of it. - The rolls are really kind of loose. You have two options you can do, two things you can do during a turn, one is to move, one zone. If you wanna move farther, you have to roll athletics, and that is your entire turn, you're running somewhere. If you only move one zone or less, you can do, in addition to it, an action. And that's something that would take out roughly five seconds, like shooting, punching, doctoring, whatever. There are free actions as well, which is to talk to someone. Can we done it in any order you want? - Though, if you start spouting paragraphs, the GN's probably gonna say-- - Within, within reasons. - The whole inside of this area is probably one zone. - Yeah. - If you're just gonna go over to Mike. - There's some tables in him, so it's none. - Then just step up, step up on the table. - Moving, that's no problem. - Make a roll, see what happens. - Okay. What the fuck is wrong with you? We've got holes in the wall, and we have Repa with a gun, and you decide to slap the person who's clearly going into a trance. Are you new to this, really? - I'm sorry, my head, I think, gosh, she's sexy when she's a fake. (laughing) That's what love is thinking. - He likes to fire me up. - See, I just give you a straight face, you're gonna pull a thing. - Don't you already have a girlfriend? - Well, no, I have a facial partner of, yeah. - Yeah, okay, go ahead. - So I just look at her and smile. My answer is a smile. (laughing) - You might do. - Not even answering her. - No, no, I'm just taking it back. I'm impressed and somewhat slightly turned on, but I, for London, he's just gotta keep the veneer, he's gotta keep the hairs unmossed, the, you know, it's off to the side, parted nicely. - Is it a kind of a shoe, don't know who I am, look, or is it just? - No, it's just a hmm, you know, like, impressive. He might need your help, though. - Is it you? - No, no, meaning, I say yes, he might need a doctor's help, perhaps. And that's all I say. At playing, staying polite and civil in the face of her verbal assault, because if there's one thing London does, he doesn't sweat under pressure. - Right, and since, I don't think you're actually attacking him and trying to cause him damage. - No, no, no, just dumbass. - What do you like about that? - Yeah, exactly. - And he doesn't really flinch under that kind of verbal assault you. - Right, but there's a social attack of this game. - So she can be some actuals. - It's what Tom says, he's gonna be an actual assault. - Yeah, I know, but that, right. - Yeah, it's not really appropriate. - It's on the verge of one, and I says, you can defend that kind of stuff off pretty easily, so. - So. - Well, no, can I just roll to, and you-- - Yeah, well, let's say you're studying him in your mind. You're trying to recollect, I've seen this before. - Right, so I've seen this before. - So am I rolling to remember where I've seen it before? - Yes, and it would be a contact roll, and I would say, it would be good, because you started getting involved in the Paranet, and you visited quite a few of them, and you've seen a lot of different people, and this is just one person who once did something somewhat similar, so it's gonna require, let's say, great effort, which would be, you would need to achieve four. - Okay, for contact space. - Yes, so you roll into your contact, adding it to your contact, ooh, minus two on the roll, you add it to your contact, your contact is, minus, contact was one. - My contact was one. - So that brings it to minus one, and if you spend the aspect of, I've seen this before. - This will bring it up to one, or you could reroll, you're right. - Yeah. - 'Cause chances are, you're not gonna roll a negative two again. - You're gonna roll a negative one. - Of course, you're gonna roll a positive two. - Ooh, so that gets me a three. - Which is still not four-way enough. - She could tap that again, right? - Not the same one. - Not the same one. - Not the same, not the same aspect. - But she could tap her own aspect, anything that would be relevant to that. - Friends to prepare that. - Well, it's definitely, it's very apt, it's about as air-propos as you can get. - So toss that one in, and roll it in. - And that takes you up high enough, in fact, it takes you to superb. And what you recall is you have seen this before, and you have seen it in a parentet that was stationed on the east side of Cleveland, and it was someone by the name of Terra, that you would call, you already know Terra. - Except it, I saw Terra. - Yes, I know I've used it before, and you know, it's a reason for that. - There's a reason for that, is it would actually be the same person, but she doesn't know that yet, because she's never been informed by any of you that Terra Spencer was one of them, and that she's dead, you don't know that. But you rolled well enough to know that it was a girl, her name was Terra, and she was kind of a very mousey individual, who she spoke to you afterwards, you know, it was like a little gathering, and you had a few little snacks and stuff, and coffee and whatnot. And she spoke to you, and she talked about the fact that she was really happy she found a home in the parentet, and that she didn't fit in anywhere, but she really felt that she fit in here. And then she kind of mentioned offhand, like she didn't really say it, but it was evident that she had problems, and that she had seen a psychiatrist, and that her power was actually very helpful, and that she could draw herself into a trance, and you previously studied to be a doctor, and found this interesting, and she had actually done a quick little demonstration to you, and you saw it. It was the exact same type of thing that she did, that her eyes would roll up in her head, and then she'd flip around, and then, and she said it was more than just meditation, that it was actually almost like going into another universe, and into her inner psyche, her own self, and it was very, very helpful, and you do remember that, that it was definitely a magical power, and that she was doing a trance, and that it was involved going into her own head. - Her own head for self-improvement? - Yeah, yeah. - That's what she got out of it anyway. - A trip under her own head for self-improvement, and enlightenment? - But she created the trance. - She created it, and it was Winter's self, and as the warden would tell you, that's okay. The warden being, and he's never done this before. - No, we don't well enough at this point to know. - And when there's this stuff much going on, it's a little unusual that you would take it off. - Oh no, I mean, this is not the time to do this, even if you could do it, and if it was someone else forcing him into a situation like that, well that's breaking some serious magical rules, you're messing with somebody's head. That is not allowed. - It's breaking one of the laws, and that's like-- - It's the laws of magic that you are not allowed to mess with somebody's mind. In your estimation, that seems to be what you're seeing here. I mean, it seems highly unlikely. - That he would choose this time and place, and he's never done this before. - What part of body did Tarot was? - You'd have to ask the defectives. - But no, we talked about it. I just don't remember what it was. - I lost the body. - I'm wondering if maybe the creature didn't assimilate the different parts from different people, and took their different powers. - That would apply to that? - Anyways, sorry. - So did I just tell you? - Yeah, no, I'm just thinking out loud for later on. No, you haven't told me anything. Unless your character's decision to tell the rest of the group stuff, so no. - We just pretend like we don't know in the game. If we acted on the information, it's called metagame, which is drawn upon, so we don't do that. We just pretend like we didn't hear it. - Some people struggle with that rule. - I probably would tell you though, in scolding you. - Right. - I probably would. - You can force me a trance or something like that? - Maybe he's being forced into a trance. - Exactly. - Okay, we haven't drawn the terror to terror conclusion yet, so I still can't know what I know, but she could potentially get there. We'll get there at some point. - We are now on to Roberto. - I reached out for my hammer. - No, he's over there. - Well, you have to move one zone away to get it. He's one zone away. - Has the creature moved since it attacked Thomas? - We moved forward to him and took the swing and it hasn't moved yet. - Right, he goes after Rachel. - He goes right after-- - I don't know if I wanna draw this creature into the crowd. You are a protector of the people. I know, but I don't have a weapon. So, there's an axe in the wall. - You're a protector of the people and you probably, if anything, I throw him a fake point. So, Thomas threw John at a fake point to try to compel him to do something. - You would want to either force it or draw it into the alley behind the building and get it very far away from the people. - I move further into the shadows and bring out both my hands and start summoning fire, pushing it back and I got at it. - Okay, I've got two hands full of fire and I'm gonna run up and grapple this thing. - Travel fire? - Yeah, that's all I've got to my disposal. - Good thing Mike is unconscious right now. - Wow, look at that. - How convenient. - I'm gonna do as much damage as I can to freak this thing out because he doesn't know what I can do. So, I'm gonna bring this up to five. - I can't do that traditionally. - More into the power. - So, you got a bit of a struggle to maintain this. - That's three mental stress, even before I fail to control this, which is more than likely. - This is gonna go very, very bad. - Sounds like it's terrible, I did. - I couldn't use my hammer to control this, but I don't have that much. - I fucking, people said I'm still running halfway across the city. Give it my break. - You failed. - Eight spaces. - I would like to see-- - I would like to see-- - I'm not taking your fake turns to get in there. - I could do that. - Mischief strip over the goddamn-- - Okay, so do you want to explain to the group what you just did with your power? - He's kind of fabricating a wall of fire, spreading from his hands, and he's just running up and beating this thing with it. - All magic does mental damage. - Okay. - Whenever you cast a spell, it always does at least one stress. - Remember that stress. - Right. - He is producing it higher than he has the ability to do. - So, he's spending pulling and damaging yourself to do additional stress. - He can't just say that. He has to actually then back it up with a wall gun. - But now he has to control it. - Got it. - Is that a wall you're pushing him with? - Conviction is-- - Is that something that's coming out of you? - I'm imagining you're like making a shield and you just shield rush him into the daily way. - Okay. So now you have to roll the control. And it's three harder to control because you-- - Yes. - Supped it up. - Yeah, the more juice, the more-- - Whatever you set the power to, it's how much you have to control it. - And you have to use discipline to control it? - Yeah. Ordinarily, my hammer helps me focus this, but I don't have it with me. - Kind of difficulty starts at five. - It's what I set the power to. - So you have to achieve a discipline of superb to control it. - I have two to do that with. - And you have what? You start with plus two. - For sure. - Yeah, you press discipline to two. - So you need a plus three. - Okay. - Good luck. - Geez. - Thank you. - Come on. - Little thing. - A minus, and a minus two. - A minus two. - And you need a plus one. - No, a minus two. - Zero. - All right. - So I'm gonna take-- - If you missed by five, is that worse than missing by like one or two? - Yeah. - The discipline to control-- - Determents how much mental stress and also it's your aim. - Right. - So you're gonna miss at this point. - You've got any points for that? - Yeah. I'm wondering. - There's a way to do the extra damage onto the environment, right? - It's followed. You can put it into the surrounding area, but. - I don't want homey hit. - No. - Okay. - So I am the people's guardian. I don't know if I've used that yet today. - You haven't used it. - I think you just used it. - That's pretty lame then. - No, you didn't use it. I made you do something. - Yeah. - So you can still use it. - Okay, well it's relevant to go. - No, he used people's guardian when he threw the axe. - Yeah. - It's each action. - It's not an action counter. - Got it. - Three people's guardian. Let's see it. - Mm-hmm. Roll batter. - That's better. - That's a little better. - That's a three point swing. - That's a three point swing. - Yeah, so you're not all right. He rolled a. - I say that. - We've rolled up three responsibility. - And that brings it up to a five. I rolled plus one, which brought it up to three. I need a five to control it. - And then he used that. - Five more victims with responsibility. - Four plus two. - This power comes with responsibility. - That brings it to five. - And that is successful, I controlled it. - Exactly successful. So as a spell, the weapon damage of the spell is the power. - Yep. - So his weapon is five. - Right. - His aim is five. - And he hit exactly with five. - So that's ten strikes. - He can crawl it. Does he hit? - At the same time? - Or get to roll it in. - Or get to roll it in. - Zero. - Yeah, he has to dodge it. If he rolls higher than five, he will. - I rolled an even. - Five. - His athletics are actually lower, but he has other abilities, which takes him up to great, which is four. It's unfortunate. - So sorry, hit it. - So go ahead. So he hits with one. Weapons five. So total of six. - That's six more than I could have done stress. - His armor is two, which takes it down to four. His four box is already filled, so that rolls up to the five. - Right. - So the monster thing is damaged then. - It is damaged. - So his mic's done. - So it's successfully controlled this. - Like a stone chair. - He's gonna fall out into the environment. - No, you hit him squarely, and we're gonna say that you also had knock back and you take him into the back alley. Unfortunately, that means you pretty much almost bowl over Mr. Edmund Shadowski. So from Edmund, I'd like to see an athletic roll to get out of the way. It's only gonna require-- - Is it a dodge? - It is a dodge of sorts. - I have a stun to footwork where I use my fists to dodge. - Dude. - Oh, that is so cool. So let's say that it is, it just requires a good three to get out of the way because it's a pretty small alley and it's a pretty damn big creature. - Sure. - So I got superb plus two. - Superb? - A total of superb, 'cause he rolled plus two. - No, I have his superb. - Oh, so he broke his-- - I have a five, so I got seven. - The number you say is-- - So I punched the thing and shoved it out of the way. - So epic resulted in you getting out of the way. And in fact, we are gonna say that since you do that with your fist, that you actually did hit it, you'd spend it. That you hit it for damage as well. So what kind of damage could you do to it? - I could do a lot of damage. - I can do a fist and my fists are superb and I get plus two damage to that. - Okay, so your hit was epic, which is seven. His getting out of the way was-- - That's different. - Equal to five, so it's two. You only need two damage to him than any damage you have with your fist or additional-- - Plus two. - So a total of four, his armor again and then we mark off that. - Right. - And then he's going by, he gets shoved right at you and you describe to me how, what do you do to you? Like, hit the ground. - I imagine he's punching him over-- - He's lying back to him as fireball and Jim like ducks under him and Judo throws him over his shoulder. - He's getting pushed by a firewall, right? - Yes. - Yeah. - I probably just stepped to the side and punched him as he went by. - Okay. - Good enough. - That takes us to the creature. He is now in the back alley. Not happy with Roberto and he wants to gut your ass. He quilt claws and just-- - Okay. - So he chases it. - He charges up the alley again and-- - Well, he doesn't charge up the alley. - You push him into the alley. - Yeah, I push him back here. - So he went with all the-- - Oh, you went with him, okay. - My assumption was you went with him. - Oh, he's attacking him. - His-- - Once a little-- - Once a nothing on the dice, but he is plus five, so he hits with a great-- - Actually superb, okay. - I rolled a minus one, so that's zero. - The athletics is one. - I take hits on the chin. - What's he having? - Yeah, what do you got? - You're going to take this on the chin. So you take five just from that. - Okay, I can take that. - Plus his claw, which is seven. - Wait a minute, that's 12? - Yeah. - Oh, who gets claws seven or claws seven? - It's just got claws plus his strength. - It's a mythic being. - Oh, you're not saying he did five and then seven. - Oh, I am. - Yeah, what? - He's saying roll five on the dice, and then he adds his weapon of his claws, which is seven, so-- - 12 then. - Shall I say 12? - Okay. - That's easier than you guys. - That's seven. - Yeah, one more big point there, don't you? - I take three mild consequences. - Which friends? - I told you. - Five, we'd learn a little demon. - There's still six damage. - See, we're saying you were professional. (laughing) - I am. - I take a milder consequence to bring that down to eight. - Okay, I don't have to say milder kinds of points to describe it. - It's going to take me a while to move down. - I know, I got to figure out how many I take first. There's numbers to me right now. - Okay. - Got you. - It's so exciting. - It's a lot of numbers. - I've never seen someone got it before. - I still haven't, actually, so I'm inside. - Fine, I have a severe consequence and I don't know. - Whoa, whoa, severe is. - I know, but I can't. - There's probably, yeah. - It's 12, huh? - That's why I got to get that. - How many times did it hit me? - Just one. - For 12. - Yeah, just one. - For 12, okay. - That's all. - Would you like it to hit me more? - No. - Okay. - This is enough. - Two stress, like a ton of mild consequences and a moderate. - You might want to re-evaluate the taking out of the chin strategy. - A strategy of fighting. - Well, I never fought anything with the strength before it had flaws to boot. I don't know what these things can do. - This is like a ton of mild consequences. He said gutting, I think, is what he used to do. - Yes, he got me, okay, but it wasn't severe. It's just moderate. - Oh, it's only a moderate gutting. - Moderate is the worst I got at this. - That's not so much better. - Yeah, I was moderately gutted in combat. - For 12. - But it wasn't severe, it would be gutted. He said he gutted me. I don't think that's-- - I'll do that for a couple of minutes. - I know, that's why I have so many mild consequences. - Yeah. - And the ability to heal quickly out of combat and he just has to survive. - I can short off one mild consequence during your combat. - Nah, that's one of them fucking showing you. - I'm sorry. - I'm so too brother, please. - You have the option, of course, to say that he just took you out of the fight. - I don't, damn it. - I have been slammed into the wall with these claws. I've been scraped, which is a mild consequence, and bruised for the slam. - But if you're taken out, for every consequence you take, you get a fade point. - I'll get taken out when I get more consequences now if you live. - Good enough. - That's my question. Speaking of all this, consequence damage stuff. With the whole shrapnel thing, I think I filled this out incorrectly, originally. So, am I supposed to be filling out for the shrapnel? Was that the stress or the consequences? - It is stress. - It is stress, and the way they rationalize that is, you didn't really get hit, you took an effort to get out of the way to avoid being hit, but you can only do so many efforts, so many stress boxes before you're exhausted, and you actually start really taking damage. And then really taking damage is a consequence. I don't have 12 boxes to put it in, so I have to take some consequences to stay in the fight. - So, this event, I was slammed into the wall bruised. - We have three minors. - Slashed on my own. - You might have a cracked rib, I mean, it's up to you. - And I think that's moderate enough. You got some cracked ribs from the salon. - No, that's not moderate. - Cracked rib, that punctures a lot. That sounds moderate. - That sounds severe. - Oh, that actually kills people. - Well, it's slowly killing people. - No, I'm saying moderate lasts for a considerable amount of time. - Right. - So, everything past mild means an actual medical issue. - Right, first, it needs medical attention, then it lasts certain numbers. - So it has broken ribs? - Right. - That should match. - I mean, there's something you can live with, but it's definitely-- - Oh, yeah, very uncomfortable. - Right. - And people can tap that all day long. - Like, enemies can tap. - Literally. - It's gonna rip. - So like, when the creature attacks him again, he'll say, oh, you have broken ribs, and he'll get a plus two to his attack because of that. - Correct. - Okay. - I don't want you to die, really. I'm trying to redeem myself for you and find your father. So, I don't really want you to die. - Right, Edmond. - Yeah, you want to? - That's gotta be a little spider bear. - A little bit. - Do you want to punch the big spider bear? - I want to leave it alone. - Yeah, I want to encourage it to flee. - Please go away. - Well, we just said it on fire. That's all about it. - Give me a more roll. - And we're gonna say... - I'm gonna pick up this stuff like perry with a hammer. - For? - You might have to roll a plus one. - All right. - You can never have a very well-versed and lore thing. - You give it 2.6% sure. - Anybody in the alley who's seen this thing can do a lore roll you need a four. - Ooh. - Wait, you need a grade? - Yeah. - Oh. - Well, I've got some going. - Jim rolled a minus one, so he didn't know it. - But I bet. - No clue. - Thomas rolled a minus two. - And that includes your brother. - If you're in the alley and seen this thing, you get to make a lore roll. - Okay. - But I'm gonna roll with the wooden dice. - No, I'm gonna roll with the wooden dice. - No. - That's good. - I don't see a shit in the thing. All right. - Okay. - Well, but it was all like... - No, no, no, no. - And spittle. - Yeah, none of you have seen this or know of a creature of this type at all. - We're not exactly thinking clearly. - No. - All the lore guys are inside. - I'm punching it again. - Okay. - Holds it. - Get off of Roberto. - Can I punch better? - Something like that. - Yeah, I was trying to rub it with a galby. - Yes. - Cool. - It's a five plus three. - What? - What a plus three. - There's our numbers. - I ask it while I'm punching it in the face. - Why are you here? - What do you want? - Hold on. I can roll the fence with weapons ordinarily. I don't need to pick this up. - You need to have a weapon. - Oh. - You guessed it. - He's got it. - He's got it. - He's got it. - That's why I need this. - Why isn't it nine? - I have a stone. - Well, athletics is as high as physically possible. - I am fucking the flash. - He just did. - He just did. - You just hit a world record speed to get your hammer and you're bitching that you can do it faster. - So I rolled the eight and I got plus two to that because I'm very strong. - Okay. But does that come into effect with damage or to the-- - The plus two is the final damage. - Okay. - Well, the first we determined to add, he rolled even on the die. His defense is five, so he did in fact hit. So that's three. Now you get to add in weapons and strength. - Yeah. And it's just another plus two. - Okay, so that's a total of five. Look at how tough that's going. - No, how major? - His five is already used 'cause it was a roll up of the four. So, oh no, actually we got to take two off for armor. For you how about that, sorry. So that's his three bucks. - We're holding down the inside of the breast rack guys. - Yeah. - We gotta take care of him. - Everybody has to why he's-- - I'm only under control. - I asked it why he's it here and what does it want? - Okay. - That's my first reaction when I punch it back. - It's London's turn. - London is undoing the salt shaker and he's pouring a circle around who I assume to be Zelda who's moved into position to help the warden. So it's a tight space. So I'm just doing a circle of salt in the floor around the three of us. And then I start concentrating and I take my ring of fastest that I wear all the time and I start concentrating on creating a minor veil which will make us invisible to anything that might come in. 'Cause I'm thinking now the creature shows up. The warden goes unconscious into a trance. To me, that's not a coincidence. There's something more there. So he might be dangerous. So I just pour the salt around and start working on my seeming to put a veil around us to hide us from any type of problem. - Could that cut off anything that's trying to get in? - Yes, well, the circle of salt in London's mind would be enough to at least cause pause for a creature to move across that threshold which is what I'm trying to accomplish. - How do you know there's a creature? You were unaware of what was going on in the hour? - No, I don't think we're unaware of so much. - Something's happening. - Well, London might be acting on the fact that he knows something's attacking the warden. - Well, I thought from when the first one, I mean, when the thing went through. - Actually ran out of the room and then escaped the wall. - I mean, there's been a gunshot to it. - It's not like a gunshot to it. - But London's common, you know how you say you're good at stealth? London can make himself disappear and that's his default action and when something- - Something's going wrong. - Isn't that totally out of character? - This with carrying an axe a furry fist with an axe came through the wall. - Has it bellowed yet? I mean like- - No, I don't think it's been a noise. - No, it's actually been completely sudden. - Why? - We smashed it. - Through the front window, as he swirls the remainder of his app or teeth and he did before he finished it, he saw someone running across, meaning Maxwell, and then running back with a huge hammer with panic in his face. - I've seen that before. - So I think there's been enough that, I just put a circle of salt around us and start running and we'll see me. - Right, that's London's turn. We're back to the top where Maxwell actually gets to do something. - I'm gonna step into the back alley and hand him his weapon so they didn't have to take an action to do that. That I'm gonna think about where I wanted. - Go! - Elsewhere than here. - Somewhere not here. - Because it is dangerous. - Right. - Repa, we can use some help. I'll say that too. - Yeah. - Repa's inside the building. - Yeah. - There is a hole in the wall though. - I'll say it quite loudly. - Because I think he understands now. - And we'll go to Repa. - Repa wanted the front way and how many-- - Just going out the front way would be one. If you wanna run farther, you have to roll. Hang around your athletics. - You can do one for sure. That doesn't look like a two bit roll. - Wash. - It's a wash, your athletics is-- - One. - So you just-- - You gotta make it three. - You have to top it and ask them back. - Scholarly sniper. - Oh, what else you got? - A position of schedule one substances. That would run a lot. - Vietnam vet, I don't-- - Do you know how many humans I have, but that's not really how your aspect reads. - Well, do you have Vietnam vet, did you say? Because you can say that you're used to reacting quickly in battle situations. I mean, that's legitimate. - I love that's fine. - All right. - So that gets you to the alleyway. - Can I-- - In running, you can't also shoot or do that. - But you want to talk or roll? - You can do lore, yes. - Get you that. - You see him on. - Thank God, someone's lore finally in the alley. - Tell us what that is. - What is this creature? - What's it gonna be? - Plus one. - Ooh, it's the first possible to roll. - What's your lore? - My lore is three. - Nice. - Total, correct. - It's great, which is what we needed. - So miserably to attend? - Yes, what you know is that this is definitely, it's a demon from another dimension. - It's a prize. - Inhabiting a human, that's why you've got two eyes, one that's human and one that's demon. - Two paradise. - And that its weakness is the typical demon ones, just like holy water, faith. - I blared that out. - That's a demon. - Then I'm like, how the hell is this shit? - Why are you guys fighting a demon? Nothing's gonna kill you. - Yeah, yeah, so no, it's really, really fucking powerful. But I think they figured that out. - Yeah. - Zelda, it's like Roberto figured it out. - Roberto, your turn, Zelda. - Well, I'm working on the warden, right? I'm trying to-- - Did you give him a-- - Is this the circle of salt thing? - To the circle of salt thing? - Yes. - Or could she do her own little, try to get him out of it thing? - I don't think I could. - Anything she wants. - Well, okay. - Real quick, did we hear-- - Yeah. - Did we hear him say it's a demon when he ran to the alley and there's a whole, a small-- - Can we know that we know that it's a demon? - Yeah, you can hear that. Sure, y'all did pretty damn loud. - I imagine the circle kind of complicates this guy. It's keeping a wizard under if that is what's happening. - Depending? - I'm not done, oh yeah, I am done with the salt circle, but-- - Right, I mean, it's just a circle of salt unless you imbue it with something which-- - You gotta-- - And what? - He hasn't made it as-- - I don't know how they can help me snap out of it. - I mean-- - He hasn't sealed it yet? - No. - Really? I mean, I can turn up a tarot card to tell us what it is and out there or what's going to happen. - But you said-- - You can influence it. - I thought you had the influence to make things happen. - Yeah, she does. - But-- - You can make him-- - She can only them over a random card in both of the best, right? - Yeah, I had only one and hope that-- - It's positive. - It sounds like good that essentially-- - If you would like-- - Could happen. - It could do that. - It could shuffle them up. - There's nothing dark and black that I can do. - Right. - So you don't have any kind of medical skill? - Oh no, it just so clearly is international. - All right. - And I know that I know he's a demon. - Yeah. - I can't break that trance with any medical. - No, this might be a time when you flip it, you know, just flip the card and you can hope for the best 'cause it looks like hell's-- It's going to help right now in the situation. - Let's see. - Mm-hmm. - It was reverse. - It was reverse. - So she drew it back. - Oh. - So the tarot card that was drawn was the sun. - That's the sun reverse. - It was reverse. - So the situation is bleak, not good. - Yes, that's pretty accurate so far. - All right, how much in my quick ability, how much am I allowed to know, necessarily, since this isn't the full ritual, like I'm allowed to get specific here. - I do what you ask. - Well, could you spend a fake point and re-pull out another card? - We don't even have solid rules down before. - Yeah. - No, but it should be this way. We're kind of creating it. I think she should be able to say, if each turn is five to 10 seconds, or don't you think you should be able to change fate twice? - Change fate twice, that's a lot. - That's pretty powerful. - This is the sun. - Right. - The sun. - Maybe you can't draw another card, which you can reverse the-- - But I can reverse it. - You can reverse it, and it costs two fate points. - No, this is pretty cool. - It's pretty cool. - Yeah, but that's, it's fate, man. - What's the card in the sun? - I don't know. - The sun is the image of optimism, fulfillment, the dawn that follows the darkness, the source of all life on Earth. The orange banner represents action and vibration, the rays of the sun represent the same thing as straight rays. Isn't it? - Yeah, but her ability to create the future is-- - Is applied that you can reverse that with a fate point. - I could, yes, but-- - 'Cause some reversal indicates that finding the positive aspects to the particular situation may prove to be difficult. - Right. - So the clouds may be blocked out of the warmth and prevent you from feeling as-- - Doesn't mean you can't do anything. - Yeah. - Does the house rule it right tonight? - Right outside. - Yes, we'll think, yeah, well possible. She flips it around. - I would argue that it wouldn't cost two, but maybe that's a discussion for another time. I think you're picking a totally random card. You don't know what it is you're going to be reversing. It may not be useful at all. This is, in this case, it's-- - It's, it's exactly what it means. - Well, of course it is. You can't always tend to be. (laughing) - You can only reverse it after you've pulled it and figured out what it is. - All right, I'm gonna say that she can spend-- - It doesn't necessarily apply to this, unfortunately, because she's not breaking the trans. What she's doing is she is actually literally bringing out the sun on a warm November day, enough such that it drives the demon away. The alley is-- - So I'm trying to help the warden, but in doing so-- - But in doing so, you drove away the demon and the warden is still, is in his trans, unfortunately, but he's safer in a sense that all of his friends and whatever was happening outside has been stopped. - So that does inadvertently help him, but not in the way that you wanted it to. - That's exactly how magic works. - If the injury's done to this creature, though, we're not enough to already bring him out of the trans supposing that it's being induced by this demon. - It did not, whether it is that it wasn't damaged enough or potentially this demon wasn't the one doing it. We don't get to know until she flips it, but they're not at breaks. - So let's say I flip it. - He's giving you-- - And it does not break the trans, but it does drive the demon away and that act does not break the trans either. He is still in a trans. - Well, there's nothing he can do in the alley anymore at this moment with a demon being banished due to the sunlight that Zelda was able to bring forth. When I finish the salt circle, does that break? - It does not either. We're gonna keep Mike in the trans and we'll end here quickly. Maybe I wonder if we want to fast forward this just a little bit because I had Rachel doing a ritual to determine what is causing this trans and how it does it. So we do have a tarot card reading that I'll display and then you guys can have a week to think about what it actually means. - Awesome. - So in Rachel doing a reading-- - Is this act like a table after everything goes down? - You guys could move down into Jim's otherware where it might be a little safer, but you guys determined that you have to in some way get the warden out of this that he's still-- - I sure got medical attention. - So you all gather back again to all that informs you that you can probably give a better idea of what's really happening here. And she does a five-part reading and using her tarot cards on the situation. - All right. - In the center, she places one card. And this is to represent the present or the general theme and it comes as an upside-down magician. - Right. - A reversed magician? - Thank you. - Pointful, that sounds pretty accurate. And you can look at the picture and from it to drive whatever you think is important but the current situation is the magician reversed and the normal take on what this means is that it's mental illness or disgrace. - Maybe the one, maybe the one with the stick. - He's on your mental attack. - The reverse status gives you mental illness or disgrace. The second card that's normally played is to the left and it talks to past influence. And when she draws, she gets the strength card, also reversed. And the normal interpretation of this, and again, that might not be the interpretation. You guys should look at the picture and make your own decision as well. The normal interpretation of this is abuse of power, despotism, weakness, or discord. - Weakness. - Discord. - Oh, the above. - The future is drawn and it is the ten of stabs. - Not upside-down for one. - Not upside-down, correct orientation. The reading of this is usually oppression or much work but also the outcome is unclear and whether the end result is good or bad and it's usually defined by the next card that's drawn. The next card that is drawn is the fourth card and it is the reason, which is the two of cups, also reversed. And its common interpretation is folly, misunderstanding, or false love or friendship. So that is to say that the oppression and much work that must be overcome, the third card would be decided by this card, which is misunderstanding false friendship or folly could have a bearing on the outcome of the previous card, okay? And the fifth card, which is the potential of the entire situation or the possible outcome. - Is it gonna be a really happy one, right? - Yeah, the happiest. - The devil. - It is a devil. It's not death, which is a card in the tarot deck as well but strangely enough, the death card never usually means death. It means starting of a new or the ending of an old. The devil, however, means violence, ravaging, extraordinary effort or potentially fatality. - Good job, everyone. - Thanks for listening to the Knights of the Night actual play podcast. Like he would, that minus two would probably apply to his purchase. - If this crutches all kind of fast, it outpaces me and I lose it, but it is up a building. - In human speed. If only we had someone who was fast. - I am as fast. - Who doesn't want to chase it? - Yeah. - I don't want to. - And he doesn't have in human speed either. - I am as fast as that crutches. - In human speed? - He has five athletics plus two for the human speed. - But I've been chasing it for a while and I'm as fast as I can. - I, when it's obvious, I can't keep up with that. I say Maxwell track it! - And then I'm the best tracker. - What does Maxwell say? - He was fast. - This is doing, this is doing it kind of like jumping up buildings under a wall. - It's like, I don't know if Maxwell can do that. - It's a hard part, yes. And just to get away as fast as it can. - Someone was on Wikio weekend. - Not really. - I had a little book that came with it. - Right. - Rachel, I'm very happy to see you taking notes so vehemently there. But I actually think I have a printout. - You can set that up again. - Do you have the yellow book? - Wait, wait, wait. - Sorry. - Do you have the yellow book? - Apparently I left that at home as well. - Did these cards come with these? - Did you come with a little book that's at home? I will send you a link that is insane. - What type of cards are we on the writer? - Yeah, they're, so you can take them all with you. - Who do you got like this for sure? - Here it is, it's nice. I never got to get them. Oh wait, I got a folder. - This wasn't very dressed in like stuff like we did. - Yeah, I think it was really, really brittle. - Yes, it was brittle and no one died. - That'd be very dressed in like, or you got thrown up against something that's hard to keep your butt, and you really shouldn't be here. - Right, we plotted it that way. - Actually, I was impressed by Rachel's, a total, appropriate drawing of the sum card. - Yes, that was really impressive. - It was easy to work with, as opposed to, if I would have got, yeah. - By the way, guys, they have cups. - Actually, you know, a mistake. - You are actually out of focus. - So it's here, it's right. - It's very done. - What date is it? - What date? - Don't know. - Oh, sorry. - It's later in the summer. Yeah, but I don't know the actual date. - It's on the, this isn't really noisy, is it? - No, but it's apparently really important we do it right now. - Thank you. - Sure. - Wow, we're at a top of our game. So let's get to the top of our game. - It's the worst feedback ever. - We also got, we also got an email. - A buckle like a belt. - Is that a saying? - It is now. - I didn't hear that. - It goes well. - We never got one stinking six star review. - Not one. - You can't. - I know. - I'm wrong with you. - I never got a one star. - I found a way to go on. - I believe there's been a couple if I can give you more stars, I would. - Yeah, I guess that counts. - Well, I wonder if you gave us a one star in the last week or the other time. - They didn't even leave a review though. - No, we never got a one star review. - One star. - Oh, I thought they didn't take us a task, but it was just in a regular email post. It wasn't an actual. - They didn't even really take us a task. - You just didn't like Scott. - Yeah. - Yeah. - What's she doing? - He just got a one star review. - Yes. - If he could have, he would have gave me a one star review. - What was the word? - What was the word? - Blabber. - Blabber. - Blabber. - Ah, I didn't. - Ah, I didn't. - His service. - Oh, a pizza guy. - Yeah. - Floor runner. - We're gonna tell the policeman, thanks for his service. Let's thank the people. - I think the policeman is a little more dangerous job than the pizza delivery. (audience laughing) - Whoa. - Okay, I could be wrong. I could deliver pizzas to places that order pizzas. That could be anywhere. - That could be a drug test. - Yeah. - Yeah. - You don't know. - You don't know. - That's pretty excellent. - I got really confused by this. - Of course, I'm my drug, so.
