The villagers don’t seem all that thrilled that the adventurers are in town. And is the rain ever going to stop? Are these the only issues they will have to deal with as they explore the scar? I wouldn’t count on it..

KotN Actual Play Podcast - 140 - Dungeon World - Yo, yo, yo DWARF
[music] Hello and welcome to Nights at the Night actual play podcast. This dungeon world about your scars was run by your GM Tom. [music] And now, please enjoy episode 140, titled... Do your draw! [music] Actual play begins immediately. Let's start by introducing this on top on the GM. Play dungeon world, fewer players are missing tonight. Michael plays Zeb and Ryan plays sketch art here tonight for different reasons. But players that are here, starting on my right, is... Jim playing Jared, the Scholarly Wizarding. Mike playing Simon, the Human Fighter. Scott playing Sanguinus, the Porculant Paladin. Doug playing Shrike, the Elvis Ranger. Thomas playing Drummond, the Morgan Clark. John playing Dunwick, the Human Bard, cousin to Jared. Last time, when we left, there was a couple of you that had leveled up. Also, I would like everybody to take a serious look at your bonds. I think I would prefer if you not use the same bond over and over again if you need to come up with something. You're supposed to burn it, dissolve it when you get your experience point. So, I think it's kind of against the Lord. The story should make new bonds evident as you go along. Like, your bond could be... My bond could be one up Drummond to prove my God as the one true God, his sucks. Now, that's a good bond. I get to continually try to one up him throughout the story. I don't want to give that up. I'm not saying you should give it up. I'm saying when you do that, then you should make a new bond. There's no limits on the number of bonds you can have. There's also a section in the book that suggests other alignment-based bonds. So, if your alignment bond doesn't quite work for you... I want to look at that. There you go. Now, you know. It's in a chart format, does that make it easier? I'm going to take a special movement second level called "Hospitaler". When I heal an ally, it gives me +1.8 healing myself. Because I've realized that my God has realized that Drummond sucks at healing. And so, I'm going to have to heal like 7 or 8 different people and constantly taking damage because of it. My God has bestowed upon me the ability to actually be healed myself, somewhat absorbed some of that damage. It seems that your God is better. Yes. Absolutely better than his God. I have a bond to retrieve my weapon, regain my honor, you know, taking a purse home. You lost your virginity? He's lost your honor. He can't get redeemed. I owe you a debt of irons that you didn't come to me, so I got to take your... That's sad. I chose penitence. When you take damage and embrace the pain, gain +1.4 damage, ignore his armor, and take +1 forward to cast his spell. And... Worship my God. And that's six of the others. Sonamak? You have a pen in God? My God, it's very good. I don't. Everybody, not Zeb. 'Cause he worships nature, being all dirty instead. And in fact, Zeb is not here today because he's off in the woods. 'Cause I thought I was reading through one of the things that, like, one of the moves or something about that level is you get to make up a gun or choose one or something. Or become one. Oh, you're Ranger one, yeah. You... it's like Ranger of the Wastes, you start to be able to take cleric spells, I think. Yeah. And you got to make up a gun for that, or pick one that already exists. I would like to make camp this evening. Is that okay? And we're exactly, do you intend to make camp? Because if you make it outside of the town, that requires a use of a ration. Right, I was going to use, like, the temple area that the refugees are coming in, I was going to just stay there tonight. Are we all welcome there? Of course you are. I am. We are refugees, after all. It was a temple of Asendia, and I am a palim of Asendia, and I spent time healing the weak and the weary of the city. I'm assuming they're going to let my comrades... Well, my sister also seems to be a bit put off the fact that you are just assuming that you're in charge of your temple now. Well, sure, that's just what I do. I tell Chelsea that Asendia would truly want us to stay here for the evening. I have just banished a demon from your town, not to mention the DIMPs as well. So, I would think it would be small price to pay for having saved the town to just scratch. It is my job as main religious leader of this town to take care of those in need. Right, but I don't... We are making assumptions on my behalf, on what my church can handle as far as... That's very understandable. Perhaps I did a large... You're a large, in fact, used up quite a large amount of our store of food. Well, you know, fighting the good fight is... It requires a great deal of effort, and effort needs to be rewarded with sustenance, for sure. So, she begrages us our protection? She begrages him offering her services of the church. You know, I also performed a daily ritual here. And that put you in charge of the entire congregation here? Well, I'm not trying to control the entire congregation, trying to sleep for the night. You would begrages sleep, a safe place, a safe haven in the middle of the wilderness? Certainly not. So, you're telling me every one of your fellow members, your friends here, are followers of the church? Absolutely not. What I'm telling you, my dear sister, is that we are currently on a quest for the God that we both worship, and our God would want you specifically to provide shelter for anyone who's particularly a quest on his behalf. Our town was nearly destroyed. You still don't know the reason. And you're welcome, yes. I'm kind of like... Oh, you're the one who paused it? Because some of the townspeople are starting to wonder a bit. And some of them are also talking about this lunatic that you have along with you. Jared, which particular one? Yeah, sorry. What are you speaking of? First of all, that elephant fellow? He's been seen on the surrounding roads, doing some rather nasty things to travelers. And then, coming into this town... You're wearing a disguise. Your friend there, with the horn there, killed a sizable amount of a farm on the edge of town. Pison people. No people. No, that was me. Babies. I'm sorry. This is buying their truck in town. A lot of the members of the village are without houses that are burned down. They're in the church. And they're talking about these people that you've been seen hanging around with. Didn't we help form a fire brigade? Did we help Jago with a rainstorm that drove with demons? There's some question on what brought these demons here in the first place. Because strangely, they arrived at roughly the same time you did. No, they arrived first, we came to your aid. Absolutely. We were a perfect day of time. We were a perfect day. In the wilderness and came rushing to your aid. And I think that this hospitality is just... The hospitality that you were assuming that you were rightfully owed. That happened to be energized and I have asked for your permission. She's a cranky priest. She's a cranky bitch. Lord, how did you for die? I'm still right there. I can hear you. I'm right here. We need our bouncer, sister. You lost your farms. You lost the lives. But you know what? There's something far more important. You're lapping. I lost my weapon. I can't do this. I could keep this in contact. Yes. I lost the spear. She seems a bit put out at some of the assumptions you have made. Can you play a song that would sue this priest? I have more in it. Don't ask him to do anything. No, really. No, really. Honestly, I can do things. It's emerging seems we've got to worry about. He does find under no pressure whatsoever. Hold on. What? I'm a human. When I first enter a civilized settlement, someone who respects the custom of hospitality to minstrels will take you in as a guest. Just me, though. It's good for you. I tell the sister that if she would prefer us to lodge somewhere else. I guess we will have to do so. I believe there was a small inn or something. And if your hospitality is not offered, then... She does seem a bit cantankerous and is on the verge of kicking you out. And if you'd like to make a role plus charisma to soothe her in some way... Is there something soothing with any spot lore? No, doesn't that mean? Just go for it. It doesn't matter. You're just rolling plus charisma. Let's say you're... Harley? I rolled a nine. Seven plus two for charisma is a nine. Which I believe is a success with... Kind of a big consequence of some sort. Which hopefully does not involve the fine sister. No, but it does involve the congregation. She doesn't have a problem with you staying here. However, she feels that you should give at least a day of service to the town. I'll be very happy to perform more healing and more piety and more holy service. You got to appreciate your enthusiasm, by the way. Well, I truly believe that Asendia would push me to pursue the demon who is plaguing your town. But if you wish me to perform some menial services here at the temple, absolutely. If you truly believe that the demon is still a danger to the town, then that perhaps could be considered a service. I would like to discuss... I don't recall anyone in the village talking about any such demon. When you thwarted it from coming home. Just like you fought back the invasion, yes, I know. And turned into elephants to put out lawyers. Did you see the bit where we all turned into elephants? Well, are you looking the other way, like this nun? I was busy playing my big role in different people, doesn't it? So, from what I've heard, Jago was able to create a storm to stop the invasion that you started. He almost... Fuck up. Don't get me started off, Jago. Don't stop talking, please. I help. Seriously. Shh, we don't want them to know that. We'll be talking to my compatriots and see if we believe that the demon is the more pressing matter. And if it is, we'll pursue the demon. If it's not, I'll be happy to spend a day attending to the faithful here at the church. Seems like it's going nowhere fast. No. It's going somewhere fast. It's actually been settled, you guys. What a place to stay here. Don't start playing. Don't fix anything, don't play. So, then we do the "make camp" thing. Food is provided by the kitchen staff. Oh, I saw this. By camping throughout the night, you're wall-fed, you get to rest in peace and tranquility inside the temple. You get half of your maximum head points back in healing. Oh, round it up. Yeah. Wow. Oh, that's right. Round up. This is a round up happy world of sunshine and puppies. What do you do? You still need to heal? I've got one point. I've got one point, so I'm okay. Is there a forge I can make use of? Wasn't destroyed in the time. No, the forge is perfect. You've got to destroy a forge with fire. The forge is perfectly fine. We're going to run the forge. Oh, yes. It's got to be a dwarf. They do it the right way. They do. Okay, we're going to say it's Ray Mack. Is the name of the dwarf name in the name? Ray Mack Bad Battler. He is the Smith of cleverly named Greenwood. When you pray for guidance, even for a moment and ask, what here is evil? The GM will tell you honestly. Not knowing what caused the craters, the sinkholes to show up. Thinking there has to be something evil around. Could have been the demon. Could have been something that we just don't know yet. So I'm going to pray for guidance to Asundia to tell me what here is evil. Okay. Does that work for the whole town or just like the room is in? Unfortunately, it's still raining. It's a natural rain now. So it's much less, but the ground is very wet. And the paths down to the sinkhole are a little bit slippery and treacherous. So you want to stop at the top of the sinkhole in prayer? No, I'll do it after the rain stops. I'm not getting down my knees in the mighty rain. No, thank you. I'm back. The unnatural storm soaked the crap out of everything. And this little droolingness that's going on now is unfortunately. The ground is putting muddy in one. So it's not a torrential downpour. So yesterday there was a river going down these rectiles. Not today. It's just all kind of wet in the muddy. It's the next morning. We're going to see a camp to keep you the night. Okay. Sorry, my God. Did Jago's ritual reseal that scar? Jago's ritual was basically to tie into the scar, pull the power a little bit of it into his creation of a storm, which rained on the area and killed the dimps that were spreading far and wide. Then it was Jago and Jared's ritual. Right. Jared's the one who messed it up. Drummond is saying Jared's the one who messed up. You won't forget that he failed at all the power. You came in there and kicked the money. No, that was the worst. That was the worst. Matter of fact, he tried to break up this. He thought that would break up the spell. No, I just... By destroying the... Turned it to 11. Just process to see what was going on. It's the first time that would source like that. It was cool. Okay. Sorry. So I guess my point is I'm asking if there's any type of like arcing band of energy up on the hinge. No. Okay. So, there's not a problem. I'm sorry. Who were you asking? The guys that were there. The Bard and... No, it's good. Not anymore. I don't know. There was. It's all gone. The pebbles are washed away. There's no physical scar there. The scar seems to be underground. Whatever an actual scar is. From the underneath somewhere. It's all a magic. Do we want to have Jago come with us down there? He's going to make it down here. He's going to make it down. He's going to make it down. He's serious to Jago. He's very confused by them. Okay. Jago used to be like... The man. The man. He is now a quite old. Okay. 120 year old halfling who's dangerously senile. The geriatric. Okay. Simon, what's it going to do for a minute? You're visiting with Raymach the Smith. How can he help you? He's kind of busy. There's a lot of nails to make to rebuild the village. Just a lot of things weren't bad yesterday. Well, nails are tedious work and I'm a blacksmith at some basic skill. And certainly try to help draw some nails for you in return for some fortune. Some iron and steel so I may build a temporary weapon for myself. Why don't you give me a charisma roll to see how well you impressed this dwarf. To see if he's willing to just freely give you. He should give himself for your assistance of help. Well, let me steal. Unfortunately. I'm not going to charisma. If it comes down to it, I'll have a drink in contact. Always. Talking about impression. You're coming up with this guy and asking him for using his equipment. Yeah. Basically in steel. So you've got an ease. You've got an impression. He's busy. Can he find some time to give you the use of the borage roll? How much does he like you? I feel you're stronger. Not really. Oh, not very well at all. What do you roll? Four. Plus. Zero. Yeah. Get his various points. Yeah. Look at that. You'd be happy. That was not the right way to do it. No. Apparently not. Apparently this village hates us. He just informs you. He is much too busy using his force. He can't really spare the time or the medal to tell you the truth. Because medal is scarce around here. He does however, have an axe. That's a dwarf sight. It is unfortunately dwarf sight so it's a little small. Graciously accept your loan of an axe. Now this axe and you look at it, it's shit basically. It's kind of dull. It's not the best of weapons, but it is a weapon. And if you take some spare time you could sharpen it up a bit and get a decent useable. So I'll use the grinding stone. If you don't mind, dream I. Don't be ruining my grandfather's axe. I'm not ruining it. I'm improving it. This is a good point. Why don't you just buy a sword? You need to be a cheap ass. You just go buy a sword. I'm sorry I can't hear you throw the crumbs coming from your face. But that's a good point. You never tell an axe you're going to improve his ancestral weapon. Let's go. Anyone got anything else to do? No. The general sword is however close because of the fire. They're helping other people. But you could get the person to come over and sell you. No we still don't. It's not what you guys want to do. We don't need rations. We don't need rations. We don't need rations on the way out. You don't have holy water? Oh, let's go. You don't have holy dirt? Yes, if you're a dwarf. You're a dwarf. These demons have a place in your religion. Do you have any method of fighting them? You hit them. Alright, so excuse me. You're a dwarf and you're a dwarf to know about demons? Yes. You're a dwarf to know about demons. That was a big thing. Some of you are apocalyptic. We faced a lot of demons. It was fun. Listen, I was like close to personal with this thing even. With that thing. Sure, I didn't see that one. I don't know anything about that one. Maybe I would have thought of it. Are you really a cleric? Are you sure you're a citizen of a condor? Why would I admit to that? If I was an equal citizen. Yeah. I'll heal you. Ow! You're the only one that failed at you. And next time you ask me, I'm just gonna break your leg. Oh, fuck. I can't heal him. I suck. I'm gonna ask the good sister if she can spare some holy water that she uses for some of her rights. We believe it might be effective versus the demon that we saw in the pits. And it would be very helpful. You can try. Donate to the cause if that would help. I'm not asking for it for free. We're not short on holy water. So it's not a problem if you think it will help you in your quest for this demon. She seems a little uncomfortable. We'll bring his head back. It's not like a couple thousand of them just came out of the ground. Yeah, right. That's really good. Maybe things you can put him out with like pissing on him. Yeah. So, okay, it'd be grabbed by vials of holy water. What it returns just a bit to drum and soul demon thing. What exactly is the relationship between dwarves and demons? Well, it's both on the ground, right? Yeah. To start with, demons hang out around Lava. So do dwarves. Our religion has to deal with them. We have a god. Arcus the god of martyrs. He is a god. So the concept is that dwarves dug too deep, got into Lava. That leads to another dimension. Of course they're always digging too. They don't stop when they should. They're competing for the same resources. So the Lava is a gateway to a dimension where demons live. As far as we believe. Yes. In the dwarfish police. This guy you're talking about, he sees like a spirit too, right? A spirit god? Do you think? They're not physical now. They're watching over us? Watching over us. Do you want to look it up at us? You. He gives us a bearded folk. What I'm saying is, do you give me an hour to prepare a spell? I can talk to your spirit god and ask him a question about how to defeat the demon. If you can talk to spirit. Yeah, if you want to do that, go for it. If you're waiting for the game to stop. Colin. It's not. Arcus says, I'm not getting any worse. It's just a drooly kind of day. I'm going to take an hour to retune my spells. Well, then I'm going to do my context. That would be about as specific as I will. That's all you can ask? Yes. A whole lot of work. That one's like so. Okay. Talk to this thing for an hour. I got one quick question. God's are busy. Yeah. By the way, I share with everyone my experience fighting the demon. I mean, we were able to wound it. We were able to make it bleed. They did have a tough hide. So you guys think that I should ask what's the best way to defeat that monster or the best effective way to kill it or what might be else? It might be dumb. If I get a second shot at it, I'll kill it. If there's something worse than a demon down there, we got all kinds of problems. Well, the idea is that these things are coming out of the sky, right? Right. So we weren't either way back into there or something else. Something opened up. Common goes into his books and starts looking up demon types and he finds a picture that he shows, the assignment. How similar is this? The demon? That is total. It is. What is the name of the demon? The pteroment. I can't think of it. It's a type of. Sure you can't go ahead. No. Kratos is the name of the demon. It is a type of demon. A kratos. Right. It is a relatively unintelligent type of demon that lives in the fire plant. It is strangely thought to be a herder of the dimps, which aren't really called dimps in your book. But there is definitely a link between it and the dimps. It works out such a cooler name and dimps. No, it's the emberlings. So the emberlings formerly known as dimps are kind of minus little creatures that are herded by the kratos. You're getting the thought that the emberlings came through and the kratos might have been chasing after trying to get control of them. Or were they driving them? Were they hurting them afterwards? That is not the possible thing. Yeah, I'm imagining a fence broke in the bunch of fucking emberlings escaped and he's like, "Oh shit." Yeah, so find out the best way to kill, please. Kratos. Yeah, whatever. Call him it is. I'm going to try to kind of do his mumble tree book. You've actually seen so many secrets. God. Yum. Okay. I'm assuming that you're pulling a spirit of some dwarven warrior who followed this god. I have a hard time leaving your power from up the whole god down just as a typical daily move. That's why he asked if it was a spirit. Is the god a spirit? The god is not. The god's the god. Okay. I know. But yes, he has some avatar of the god. Right. So you're summoning the spirit of one of the dwarfs that followed this god and you're asking him a question. So how long do you summon this? I don't know. When doing spells, what happens when you roll a knight? When I roll a knight I get the gold. Unwelcome attention. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. It's a spell. So you're forgetting this spell. Yeah. You can bind him to an area so that he can escape when he were defeating him. That type of demon will run when they're damaged. Okay. So in order to truly kill it, you have to first bind it to the spot and then you must do damage to it. It is one of the stronger beasts of that realm and cannot be damaged with normal water. Most of the creatures there can be damaged with water. This one cannot, not with normal water. Cool. Thank you Mr. Spirits. You can't really ask for what kind of water do we need if it's not normal. Not sure. It's gotta be really. I'm sorry. It's the only one question. Yeah. The door of an ale. You could cast the spell again. Oh no you can't. You forgot it. The door of an ale. I like that. Did we get holy water for everyone who just... You got five vials. You got five vials so I'm happy to... So strangely enough that is exactly one for each of you. There's six of us in. Hell you can't. Okay. That's almost one for each of you except for the dwarf. Yeah, he doesn't touch the whole thing. It will not accept holy water from ascendia. I wouldn't insult him to try to offer it to him in the first place. So everyone gets one except for drumming. Perhaps when the time comes I will use the water to anoint my axe blade before I engage battle. Excellent idea. That's a cool idea. Now drumming don't think that I forgot for a moment that you ruled in nine and not ten. Which means there is an effect. And it isn't directly related to you. Everything you're doing. But while you guys are doing that you're doing it in the courtyard of the church. Sure. And you hear a lot of commotion going on outside. Like screams of the peasants. It's not disturbing. Let's wait for them to ask us to help the story. Yeah, that way we wouldn't be able to bitch later. Yeah, really. You caused this. What are they screaming about? Like a look. There is some panic going on. Is they're all pointing in the general direction of the scar? The scar? The scar? Well, the way you know the scar was because you were on the scar. The paddle hedge. Yeah, right. The ritual site. I go inquired to the peasants. Yeah, most of the peasants seem to be running away from that direction. And in particular towards the church. Which is a finely built stone. You know what I mean? Oh God my children. It's also seeking sanctuary as it were. It's the closest thing they have to a wall. Mm-hmm. Place in this small, pillowy, yes, village. Do we see clouds or light? Um, yes. Cloud. Shrike is far this one. He acted first and he gets towards the edge of town where he can get a clear view. Less buildings in the way. And you see a weird sight in the distance. It doesn't look like a mushroom cloud. But it definitely looks like a cloud that emanated from the ground upward. And some of the tree tops are frozen and frost covered. It's a very odd sight. And it looks like the snow is slowly drifting back down as if there was a big- I don't like frost demons. I just hope to start that. Wow. That's different. Maybe something. Do you see Jago? Do I see Jago? Yeah. Do you like Wanderback? Where is Wanderback? Wanderback was hotter or something? Yes. He must have. I immediately look around for Dunwood. He's standing actually right next to you. Okay, just checking. That's all I just wanted to check. Oh, let's check it out. Okay. That's pretty resilient. We're now at ground zero now. Right now. Roughly five minutes away. Yeah, I'm going to go to ground zero and see. So boss, what do you want me to do? Stick by you or go investigate? I think we should all go investigate. All right. And again, I'm pretty sure he said last time that tunnel ran towards the exact location of pebble holes. Still raining? Still there's something like that. Weird. I think we have to go over land because we can't assume for sure. I think it's better than going down in that tunnel right now. Yeah, okay. And you're ahead. Some of you could scout ahead for us or something? Or sure. Like a ranger? Or sure. Like a ranger. Sure. Sure. It's not a perilous journey because it's too short, so we're not going to that move. That's a perilous journey. But if you would like to make a scouting room, I don't know if you have a move of that type. If not, then we would go with just a straight up roll. I heard my plan soon to pull out my magic device and try to triangulate where the scar is. Okay. So you successfully scout out towards the area where you had been yesterday, which was pebble hedge. And you get a couple of minutes towards there and you realize something's coming this direction. And it's clearing the trees tall. There's something smaller than the woods. Yes. I always picked the oil one. And it's a tunnel. A tunnel was a better option. Thunder. Each footstep is just shaking the ground. It's a very tall giant thing. I have like that I need it. It seems to be made up by ice. Is the ice giant thing? That's my fault. There's no trees around here right now. There are trees. But I didn't get that far. It's higher than the trees. It's a tall thing. So it's easy to hit. It's a big target. Yes. Definitely a big target. I'm going to try this again. I'm going to try to run away without running into a tree. This time it's a frozen branch. You turn around and you're getting ready to run back to them. And the ice is just spreading ahead of it. And it is covering the ground and making it very difficult for you to move. Oh, okay. Faster than you. So you're area. I mean just in the time that you look at it, go ship and get high. It shoots out along the ground and it's covering. And the ground is slippery with ice. Fire a dexterity. Oh sure. You should define the danger of the ice. Oh sure. It's like that. Yeah. Easily so. It's actually to be beneficial as you're skating. And it gets you quicker to escape. And you hit the area outside the ice and just keep booking. And you run as quickly as possible. It doesn't take you very long. Maybe 30 seconds or so before you run into these guys coming in the opposite direction. And mind it would assume that Sanguines is riding horseback. I know he hates to walk anywhere. True. It is a short distance. It's raining. And your horse is going to get money. It's about to be snowing. It's about to be snowing. So other than the speed. I'm just going to roll a die. One, two, three. Because I can see him thinking what I'm going to do with the horse when I get there. Like if we're going to go underground. Yeah. I don't know what's going on. So I'm going to say that I'm going to say he doesn't have a source. Okay. He's behind everyone else though because he can't. He can't keep up. It's their time. Yes. It is. I would say 10 o'clock in the A.M. The strike comes back and tells you. Oh boy. I, I, I, giant come in this way. One or two more. One. I saw one big one. It's just, it should be enough. Drumming. It should be plenty. Well this makes absolutely no sense. Yeah. I mean. They are not associated with demons in any way, shape or form. They are not in the same universe. I call my bear. Well. We don't want to get off on the wrong foot. Just a quick background on the, on the world itself. We hear ice giant, we think. Kill, run, destruction. You know what kind of thing? You think what the fuck? Because there's never been an ice giant in this world that you are ever aware of. Even the stories don't come out. Other giants that we might have read. You might have heard tales, fanciful ones where you know. Hey. The clients and they were made of ice and they don't come bare a gift. I do. No. I've already more covered as legends of heroes past. Did a hero ever fight an ice giant? The first time you encounter an important creature, location or item, you are covered by bardic lore. It's giants qualified. Sure they do. Go ahead and roll. I don't have to. Oh. What are you going to have to do with ice giant? Tell us a word. Would you like to establish anything? As long as you can't have one question about it and the gym wants truthfully. It has to be an I.M. and then ask you what tale legend or song you heard and what information it. Yeah. Make it be cerebral to it. What would they hate you? Why are they so rare? Why are the ice giants so rare? Yeah. Well, the land that you know that is inhabitable by you, the else and everyone else is nowhere near cold enough to allow something like this to exist. And the only time you've ever heard of them before was in a tale about gentlemen. He was a man who traveled to many different worlds as it were. And one of the ones he encountered giants made of ice. On a boat did he travel? Like a different continent? He traveled with a sidekick who was a wizard and this wizard would take him out of his. But it's kind of vague on how he would take him places. The GM may ask you what tale, song legend you heard the information in. Yes. So you go out front. We'll have you back. I'll just have you try to catch up. I tried along to guard the paladin. It's a shame. The Jared can't shoot fire. Let's go kill it. Yeah. Now there's going to be much talking with giants. It could be friendly. All right. So myself and Simon go to the front of the group of adventurers. The path. Yes. And we walk into the ice storm. The giants is a giant. He is a rob the tree tops. We are talking 20 feet tall. This thing's huge. If only we could get the co-toss to bring the everlings to fight the ice giant. That'd be awesome idea. I'm on the headfire bomb. Hold. There's giant of ice. That's all I can. You're all trying to get started. All right. The footsteps continue. The ground quakes and the giant stops just a moment. Just a moment to sniff the air. He seems to stop and look down at you guys. And then his arm just comes sweeping down and it's knocking trees out of the way. As he is attempting to scoop up the two people and the lead which would be Simon and Simon. What's he going to do? To make this clear. His whole hand is going to sweep up front of the road and you. And then up at the air. I'm going to do a thing. That's what I can. I'm going to tuck and roll. Get a spear you can just run. Tuck that chin. Or are you tying it? Jump onto his arm. Climb all the way up. You're going to be weird. You're going to be weird. Give me what you're doing. I'm diving out of the way. I don't mind or you can discuss what you're going to do. But give me your final. Is that your final answer? Yes. Simon is attempting to dive away. I'm thinking. I'll kind of go up there and talk to him. I'm going to stab him in the lip. The lip is weak point. All right. He's got a weak point in the lip. This guy's kind of so big that it kind of looks like silly finding a bunch of like an arrow at him. I know it looks silly. It made you damage to him. Yeah. I'm not going to try a damage either way. I just want to get closer to him. I mean, the only way we're really going to hurt this thing is like to stab him in the eye or something. So if he wants to bring me up a little closer to the, you know, the weak point, that's fine. Maybe he wants to talk. Maybe, you know, you can't. Simon, you're very near sightedness. Simon, your first reaction was to dive out of the way. So give me a defined danger role plus the X. I thought you were supposed to protect me. You never know how to react at all. Just saying. It's not exactly, you know, seven ahead in line. Hey, succeed it. In diving out of the way. You realize quickly that Sankos is knocked. He's standing his ground and looking. Seers. Stupidly paladin-like. All right. Well, that's a great idea. He's not moving fast for anything. Well, no. But he's moving even slow for him. Okay. He's not moving. So you can continue. Dive out of the way. Your movement is a little slow. That hesitation cost you a bit. So you're going to get out of the way. You could reverse your dive and stand the ground. Or if you don't, the likelihood is he's going to scoop up. You could end up being caught in the shower of things between his fingers that come and take a little bit of damage. I will check my dive and try to brace behind my shield and try to use my body to protect the paladin. Okay. But grateful and very kind paladin. You think so? None of you. Very nice. You talk about the same guy. It becomes quickly apparent to Jared Shrike Drummond and Dunwick that the two gentlemen in the front of the party have been scooped up in the hand of this giant. And he's bringing his hand up and opening his mouth as if he's about to pop a couple M&M's into it. What do you guys do? I've got to move. Go ahead. Metal hurlums. Screaming death oil. I'm screaming metal. You shout with great force or play a shattering note. And that's the best. That is a great note. Don't get another sound. Please don't. No, I'm going to leave that one in. That was fierce. How'd you do? Seven. Seven, three, nine. You still damage your target but it's out of control and the gym can choose an additional target nearby. The shattering note. So you're out of control. That's hard to believe. Great. Very surprising, asshole. You still damage your target and he's deafened for a few minutes. Like cool. You showed us that. At least that'll help the paladin. Let me go. I wish department with you. Thank you for helping me. That was a great opportunity. So we got a large cone that I could speak into. Maybe you should look at the results of the spells before. I did in particular this one. I always damage four. I always did five and there's no damage mitigation because it's sonic damage. How do you sound like a bee? Actually, yes. You bring up your horn. You have only place one note. It's really boring. Oh no. You can do it. We just heard different notes. What? That was awesome, man. Dunway. How much damage? Five. Five. Five. You bring your horn up to your lips and you blow such a note that it actually shattered some of the ice armor on the giant. And chunks of ice fall down. Unfortunately, splintering around the footsteps of the giant and causing a bit of damage to those of you around there. I'm not around there. They were up front. Yeah. Well, they're actually in the hand high above the ground. So anybody that's still on the ground, I want you to roll a four sided dice. The shatter. Roll two four sided dice. Take the least of it. Oh, that's not. So, it's just splinters of ice. You're already in there. Yeah, you're going to have to bounce off your E. And you should still bounce off your E. You're going to have to bounce off your E. That's not bad, man. I got one. One and you're done. Armor still counts. Wow, it's zero. Sweet. Ah, nice. One, four. Also, you have armor out of some type, so you get no damage as well. So ice shards shoot and hit most of you in the armor. I don't think it actually did damage to anybody. Yeah. The shattering of the ice was enough to stagger him a bit. And he takes a few steps backwards, a hand halting in midair. But it does seem like it's probably going to continue in a very short order. And in fact, it does as you're watching. I am going to do a special on this thing's face. I mean, is there a drawing? You kind of read any sort of existence. There's not a whole lot of intelligence. It does appear to be a dumb root. Parents are too busy. I've got to hold on until it eats one of them. I'm going to do a... Then I'm going to show it. I'm going to cause fear. Cause fear spell. I'm aiming. I'm going to make the ice giant fear the fat man. Sanguineus. Sanguineus the fat man. And I prefer corpulent, but if, you know, I mean, I realize I'm a large fan. Which actual description you go with? It's not corpulent, is it? I have a corpulent bottle. Okay. I didn't like it. It was bulky. I just thought bulky was not good. And that's what I want in corpulent for my own. The corpulent sounds like... I figured our corpulent paladin was a bigger target to be able to see and be feared in... You might choke on you anyways. Yeah. It could be lodged. Yeah. He's like a peanut M&M. He's not, you know, Simon's just an M&M. Actually, John is a mini M&M, but he's not involved here. Oh, he's like... Oh, he's like a M&M crack and there's like a little piece of shell. That's drumming. Alright. Let's see what Jared can do with his fear spell. Ooh, wow. Holy shit. 12. Six, six. Now, five, five plus his two intelligence is 12. You have to maintain this spell. And when you do, your minus one casts any additional spells. But you do, in fact, cause him to fear the little paladin in his hand. I was hoping he'd be afraid to pop it in his mouth. He is definitely afraid to pop it in his mouth and instead looks in his hand and utter disgust and fear. And throws the paladin onto the ground. Unfortunately, the warrior is alongside him. So both of you just... I am. Well, fortunately, there's been plenty of snow from this frost. Right? We're in full place. Chainmail. Crack. So, can we make a roll for the bi-danger? The fly splat. Yeah. Let's see how much damage you're going to take. We're going to say, you know, you want to roll with it. So, you're going to give me a roll plus the axe to see how much of this you can absorb. When you're landing with a parachute jump to kind of... Yeah. No, I get it. It's dexterity unless you can give me another reason that you should use another stat. No. I mean, you could turtle up and go down like that and try to endure your way through it. I don't think it's going to be a game. You can use your martial arts and try to bounce or something. I can't. Or absorb the splat. I roll a nine. A nine, man. A nine, too. Oh, look at that. Okay. So, we're actually going to say this is a mid-range. You didn't take the most damage which I would have been six or less. You did not take the least amount which would have been a really... A nine, four, ten and above. The slam does die six. The boot in which he wishes to ground you into the ground to crush you. Sure. That is potentially going to do a lot more. So, this is a slam to the ground. Okay. So, die six. Die six. It's not a sharp weapon. I take four damage and go, ugh. I take three. That's a delicious thing. Mm-hmm. There is a giant foot coming down. And going to ground you. Okay. Shoot him though. That's the problem with the bottom of the foot. Sure. You know where the dragon has no scales type of practice? Yes. Drum and the strike are going at the same time. So, whoever wants to roll first, the strike's letting loose with the volley. I want to improve his damage. Oh, well, then you want to go first. Yeah. Plus the bolts as they fly. Drum and... Plus, plus... What'd you roll? Five. Yeah. Okay, nothing like that. Five? No, I mean, I roll a four plus one. Yeah, the experience point. Daily. You don't? [Laughter] Is it good? He says the only man who's receiving smell of work. That's true. That's true. Okay, sorry. You roll eight. Plus two. Ten. Okay, good. That's for the arrow. You do indeed strike the bottom of the giant's foot. Five. And you do five damage. Unfortunately, there's still some ice armor. I mean, exterior of this giant. Sure. You do manage to sink. And then he jams his foot down on the arrow. He's not really happy about that. So the arrow goes through my skull. [Laughter] There's a giant... Literally a giant's foot going to round you into the ground, Simon, and/or sing with us. So we're doing dexterity again? It is up to you. What do you do about it? Hold it up. Well, I would like to hold my sword up and imp... Like do damage to him and see if he keeps on wanting to go down. On the long sword. Or whether he pulls his foot up and backs off. That's what I'm going to do. Mike has a toe fetish. He's taking his axe and jam you between the guy's toes. I'm not going to say no to that. [Laughter] I'm going to defend. I'm going to stand in defense of a person item or location under attack and reroll plus my count. You should tell me in fiction what you're doing and then we find a move that fits it. So because it just... Otherwise it comes down to just roll and add and roll and add. So we want to say, I'm doing this fictional flavorful thing. And I say, oh, well that is a defendant role. You're going to hold your shield over him. Almost like a shield wall, like a phalanx. We taught us in the Imperial Legion. I'm going to try to set myself, lock my shield and try to help deflect or take the brunt of the foot while giving him a better chance at stabbing. He rolls over twice, throws his shield up over my corpulent midsection. Okay, yes, that would be a defendant move. So we'll have Simon... 7, 8, 9, so close. With a defendant that actually does succeed and you get one hold. And we have the damage too. And you choose how to spend that. Yeah, I think what I'm going to try to do is I would have used my shield to deflect the foot enough to open up the attacker to my ally, giving my ally a plus one forward against the attacker. So basically, I'm giving sanguineous a plus one maneuver in. In this instance, that's not the best choice. And I'll tell you why. And the reason it's not is he is automatically going to hit. And the reason he's automatically going to hit is he's allowing himself to be hit. And that he's going to take damage, but yet he's going to do damage. In that case, I will just try to spread it out and use my shield to have the damage. Well, both of us are protected by a shield a bit and it halves the damage. Okay, it halves the damage, but it actually halves the damage that you're going to take. Or does it halves his damage? I still take damage. Right, you still take your damage. You're having his damage. And there, I fulfilled my money. Okay, and you have to live for it to be able to use it. The foot comes down, stomps you into the ground. But you get an automatic success on your hit. And in fact, you roll two of your dice and choose the best. You are allowing him to strike and using his weight to drive the sword up into his foot. I'll do a lot of damage. I get a plus one because of my long sword, so a lot of damage. Okay, you guys are watching as you see the sword just come flying right through the foot. I mean, it clearly just severs right through both that bottom and ice shatters as it comes up through the top and in the giant screams and utter pain. You both take a die ten damage. My test. Same when this is halved because of time and sacrifice. Five. Eight. Minus four. Your armor does a little. Minus eight. Half is four. And I have three armors that help this time or no. The ground gives a little. Sure. Since it's rained and it's muddy, the ground gives a little and your armor does absorb the blow rather than populate your grade. Oh, I only take two points of damage when I fire. Yes. The giant is now hopping in one foot. The ground is just shaking. Trees are threatening to fall down as he's stumbling backwards. Sing with us. When he drew his foot back, your sword's gone with it unless you can hang on to it. Sure. I was trying to strengthen. He's looking. Taking your weapon. Right. Yeah. Every monster in this world is sticky. Sure. I threw him. Man. Four plus one is five. I did. Experience. But the sword goes. Actually, he does it hop backwards. He's not the most graceful creature and he starts to fall backwards. I think. Which is away from you guys. There is. Kaboom. That again rattles the trees and everything kind of jumps off about a foot. You guys are back. You're allowed to stand but this giant is flat on its back and slowly starting to rise again. What do you do? Does it take any damage for falling in the ground like that? Like do I notice any more armor or ice shatters off? There's definitely ice shattering because he landed on trees and started. Some of them were sizable trees. Because he's got impaled on him. Exactly. It's very dangerous. Okay. Oh, he's recent. Dangerous. As an elf, he knows. Does he have a weapon? He's going to kill him. He does not appear to have a weapon. Picking myself off the ground and running towards the foot, I say forward. Get him. Inspire anyone who might want to. I will move forward and the foot that has. I imagine Sanguine is just running towards the foot to get his heart back. Yes. But I would like to get there ahead of him and take a mighty whack at the foot. I'm not even going to require a roll. There's absolutely no chance that Sanguine is going to get to the foot before you. Dude, I'm still pointing out my back. He's doing this where he's rocking back and forth. He's doing the turtle or he's trying to get up. He's laying down position. I'm going to try to hit the foot so hard to shatter it more so you can more easily draw. He decides it. Sanguine just has to roll on his side before he can get up. And now he's stuck at his stomach. He's kind of rolling back. So drumming. Drumming. First of all, you're a lack closer assignment. So you definitely are in there with your axe. But Shrike, you're still staying in a distance shooting maybe another arrow? Yes. Drumming and dumpling. You're doing what? Blaring my throat for the last one. Oh, gotcha. Oh, Jared. Drumming, are you going in close to hit this thing? I got a hammer. I'm hitting him with a spell. All right. So the order we're going to do this assignment, hold on, is dumpling can definitely blast this horn before anybody can do anything. Yes. All right. So he's going first with the horn. Oh, no. The horn again? The horn again. Jared is going to do a spell on drumming who is running. All right. And then you go. Don't let go. He does the raspberries. What did you roll? Two. And two. Four. Four less constitution. Oh. Yes. Plus one. I'm just wondering why it's not a plus two. It's a different ability. It's a plus constitution. Maybe it's one you should use a less often. I just got it. I just got it a little better than that. You start to blow on the horn, but then you swallow it a little bit funny. And you get spit in there, so you're kind of caught away. You can add a little bit. So Jared. Plus one. Guys, if you push it dangerous. Yeah. Would you roll? Seven. If you roll this out. Six plus one. You said it was a creeped over the edge. I don't mind this one. I don't mind this bug. Oh my God. You are minus one. So your intelligence is two and then you're back down, but you're seven. You're good. Yeah. What happened if I picked this spell disturbed this fabric of reality? And I think minus one. What happens if I cast the worst possible and fuck everything up? What you're saying there is your connection, the stream of mana is fucked up. So not only are you minus one because you're holding that fear spell, you'll be an additional minus one because you're disjointed from magic. You'll be minus two from that spell. It's possible if you want. Okay. So drumming goes invisible. Well, as he charges forward, you are minus two because the magic seems sour somehow. Something seems wrong with the flow of magic around here. You're just used to a more pure force of magic here. Something's wrong with it. And then we go to Simon, who is up on his feet, charging the fallen out of me, who seems to be on reflection. He's not necessarily trying to get up in a seated position. He's actually using his hands to try to force himself farther away from both of you, but most importantly, because he's still fearing the penalty. Right. Because of Jared's stuff. Right. All right. So I swing the dull axe as hard as I can. Hey, wow. This thing rocks. A ten plus two is twelve. Oh, that's great. Well, rocks are warrior. So on a ten plus, I deal damage and avoid their attack, or I may choose to do an additional one day six, but expose myself to the enemy's attack. I think I'm going to go for as much damage as I can. All right. That's a whopping total of eleven points of damage. All right. You just strike down with the axe and just, you hit him in the foot. Yeah. I mean, because that's the closest target. Well, that's what I was like. But just, but in between two toes and just clear, it just splits open. So you did. You cleave his foot all the way to the point where the sword is driven in. I mean, you just strike him. Nice. I mean, fear, anger and pain. He lashes out with his foot, which catches you full on the face. Okay. A die ten. Oh. Eight. However. I choose to use my human quality. Make him roll again. Once you're battle, I may reroll a single damage roll. I'm going to reroll this one. All right. I reduce it more to a five. My armor. Nice work. So I still take two points of damage. Okay. At first, you thought this kick was going to send you flying. But instead, you just kind of skid her back. You set your legs so that you only slide back a bit in the mud and you go, you'll lunge him forward again. And you grab his sword, which now is just simple to draw up from the bloody foot. The giant is thrashing. He's in a great deal of pain now. That would be I'll draw giant surrender. Drummond, you are invisible and running up along this giant and strike his calling for the giant surrender. And right now, the giant seems still extremely interested in getting the fuck away from Sanguineas. Legs are pumping and sliding in the dirt, just pushing up ice and dirt towards, well, unfortunately, Simon. Sanguineas is still doing the turtle thing, which is almost there. Trying to get out in the back. And the giant's hands are digging in the mud. And you're dwarf. You're trained in this giant stuff. You're seeing him slow down. He's hurt bad. So what are you doing? I don't know. I'm invisible now. That wasn't in my plan. I was just going to hit it. You could do it. Isn't he deaf? The giant's from the first horn blast. Right. Yeah. Actually, most of you, your ears are ringing pretty. Sure, too. We have Dunwick the best. But Dunwick was aiming at the giant, so he got the full brunt of this horn blast. Right. But unfortunately, you were in the process of being scooped up. So you two are kind of eating. Doing that high-pitched whiny thing in your ears. I don't want to climb him. I'm a dwarf. It's pretty much what I have to do. He has giant climbing. Yeah. That's a skill. The giant's on his back. You want to jump up on its stomach and do what? I intend to hit him in the face. We're going to require two rolls from you. The first one is dexterity so that you can ride this fucking giant. Yeah. It is. It is. You said you wanted to mount the giant. There you go. Anyway, that's a success, but also a conditional success. Right. You don't have to. You feel better about it afterwards. I don't. I'm not too. You're morally conflicted. You jump up on the giant's chest and you're running towards his face in his eyes. I mean, first of all. So you're sliding across him and you realize that you're going to fly off of him. So you just take your axe and stick it in his chest and pull yourself closer. Which is close enough to attack the invisibility goes off. But you do manage to get right up in the dude's face and now you may do your attack. Okay. He's surprised by the fact that in the miserable force, the spirit on his face. Yes. Surprised enough that you get to go even though behind you you hear this. Something very large moving through the air. That's fine. This stupid giant is about to punch himself in the face. But unfortunately you're between his face and his fist at this time. Straight. Just going to hit him. Yeah. Plus two. Seven is a success anyway. And I knew I was going to take damage. I got off on his face. Alright. So do your damage. That's a die six. Three. Nope. Three damage. He checked the tooth. The axe strikes and hits him right in the mouth. And unfortunately he's in his teeth. You know, it's kind of like... It's almost like floss. It really didn't bother him while that much. The plan worked. He's going to hit himself in the face. There's a little ship. There's a namole. You know, that comes off. Dennis would be pissed. Except, as pathetic as it is, that's all he had left. And you actually killed him with him. We just shot. And the hand stops mid-thing and just kind of falls and hits himself in the face. Which unfortunately again is where you are. So where you take his face palms? He does. His face palms the dwarf into his face. And you take a die eight of damage. I nearly missed. What do you guys... This wasn't hard. I rolled... Nice. Seven. I have two armor. Five damage. That's a... He wasn't clothed in any way. So he had ice and it was only two points of armor. Which is a light shot that takes him down. Yep. He threw the axe out. The tooth stuck in a... Naked frost giant. Alright. That really is impressive as the clothed one. A duck! Yeah. A little disappointed. I thought he had more. The hard part is, is when they die they stink up the whole place. But like ever. Mmm. Well that's the villager's problem. This is like whale carcass like in the middle of the forest. In the middle of the forest. Oh this can render them down for a while. Oh and it'll be fine. Immediately the entire area... Okay. Entire area. Keep food cold for a while. Yeah. Well the entire area starts getting warmer almost immediately. Uh... Super nasty. If we get quick we get a cold beer. You could. Yep. He hit. The cold this was generating off of him and he is no longer generating that coolness. He wasn't there. Well it's obvious something or someone is with random pictures here we gotta stop. He came somewhere. There's an egress. So we should go investigate. A blowhole. The easiest thing to track but we haven't arranged it for that. Yeah. Does it really take a direction? It doesn't really take a range of the track these huge ass holes in the ground where this giant was stepping. So ice giants thought those were a myth. Yeah. Learning. Yes. You are. Alright so we're not doing, we're going to end up here. We're not doing a camping move but we are doing an end of session move. Cause you guys aren't camping here we'll just continue on from here at this next point. As a group did we learn something new and important about the world. Ice giants are real. Yeah that's something. Is that something else? Is that something else she's a bitch? We learned. Well that's important. I don't know this is important but that is something new. We learned that there's something letting loose magical creatures in the area and it's not just fire. Keeps on coming from the same location though right? The same generation. But the dwarf was telling you ice giants don't come from the same area that fire demons do. They're actually great buddies. Yeah they're neighbors. They hang together. That's like a random hole. And we're going to say did you overcome a notable monster enemy? Not that I remember. We killed an endangered species. Truthfully? Truthfully? Truthfully as a bard. You can now sing a song about how you and your friends killed a ice giant. That's pretty fucking noted. They don't exist in this one. I'm mark on them. We're giving you another one for that. Yeah. No memorable treasure because well. And then we go into individuals. Jared did you do an alignment or a bot? My alignment is to discover something about a magical mystery and I did discover that the magic here is. Not for you there. Any bonds? No bonds. We're all the way over to you. Oh yeah. I defended. Say what is. They're going to solve one of them and then create a new. Right. And different. I have not done anything really to regain my weapon. But I regained his weapon for him so. Oh nice. I do appreciate it. No no. Alignment maybe? You defended the village. This giant got nowhere near the village. You defended it that way. Can I put myself in the arms and wait for it? Absolutely. So that's two there. Thing with us. Okay. If you're yourself to protect someone weaker than you. Again, I ran to the front of the battle to take the damage. Is that alignment? Is that alignment? It's an alignment one. Who is weaker? Roman? Look at me. He's a little guy. Alright. That's three damage. I got the strength and constitution of 16. He killed. I fucking killed. She died. But you know, I'm short. So I'm weaker. Well, it doesn't have to be weaker. No, but you say that that's not feasible because everyone is equal or a team of equals. I could try to save the house person. That's a very subtle, protected town. How about you do that to save someone in the party? No, it's an alignment one. You specifically got to be saving someone. So I would say if you can say specifically how you saved someone weaker than you. I don't feel like fighting for XP. To be honest, because it's just a fun game. Potentially because the village, everyone's weaker there. There you go. We're heroes and we stop the giant in his tracks. You're attending the village to eat. I'm not going to be stingy with experience. I strive to one up drum and improve. My god is the one true god. I don't think I did anything that really spoke to that besides, you know, insulting him a lot throughout the night. So I say none there. And then sketch is my other bond, but he's in here. So I'm done. No, not really unless you consider that we freed him from his mortal coils as a bond. I didn't really throw. He didn't really free him. He didn't free anybody. He didn't know something. No. So I know on that. And, uh, no. No. What are your lines? Zeb's not here. That was the alignment one. Zeb's not here. So if you can do anything, uh. Go around the subject of alignment. I changed mine. I'm not going to claim anything from it right now. But I think it would help our group. I changed mine to chaotic spur others and to, uh, too significant and unplanned decisive action. Because we... Deliverate forever. It has nothing to do with the back that you butt things up and we have to fix it. But yeah, okay. I can do your plays into that. I'll get lots of experience with it. Exactly. Works well. What were you before? Help others, uh, with your art to perform your art to help someone else. That's boring. Drummond, did you have alignment or other bond to you on that? Alignment, endanger yourself on the precept of your church or God, uh, petitioned personal victory. Man, I killed that guy. You're really going to take that? I am taking the fuck out of that. Okay. Yeah. It might not have been a spectacular shot, but it was a spectacular move. Yeah, dude. I won. God doesn't care about anything else. I had, I will show you. That's sometimes murder is the only way. But murder? Murder? Murder? Murder? Not death. That wasn't death murder. He was lying on his back. That was murder. He was a frost giant who was attacking the town. He was a violent radio crew. God. If murder is poor wording, was it like 11? Sometimes death is the only option.
