Fires rage out of control all over the farmstead. Decapitated spirits howl in the smoke-choked air. A vampire slowing losing control on the brink of frenzy. Task Force S.I.R.E.N. has been in tight spots before, but none quite as perilous as this. What becomes of our exhausted heroes? Tune in to part two of our two-part conclusion to find out…

Actual Play Starts 6:28

[Music] Hello, and welcome to Night to the Night Actual Play Podcast. This world of darkness story, Shikren, was written and run by your storyteller Scott. And now, please enjoy episode 133, titled "Fini, the final episode of the Shikren storyline." Actual play starts 6 minutes, 28 seconds. All right, feedback, we've only got two quick bits, we have one iTunes, brings us 47. They actually haven't put out episode out in months, so it's the first time they've been fun-baiting with dead people. You know, is this the American iTunes, or did you know, strictly American? Yes, no, strictly American. And I did not go through 152, if I ever, I mean, just saying, if we want, you can claim victory. It might be one of those. You want to talk by hand around. No, this is like the box office thing, when it opens, you know, you don't count the overall. Oh, yes, yes, yes. 47, domestic review. So the iTunes review was from D11008, whose title was "Excellent Podcast," and he gave us five stars. He said, "I absolutely, no, I'm assuming it's a E. D11008 could actually be a robot." And they said, "I absolutely love listening to your group play. With your audio, quality, team dynamics and stories, you could easily make these sessions in audiobooks." Wow. That's a... What do you guys? From D11008. Does that spell sound good to say? I was listening to this series, like, all week long, and it felt like a book, so... There you go. They speak the truth. They is not correct. You're not supposed to use data in that... When I'm talking out on that, in that version, was that? Robots are collective intelligence. You shouldn't use they to mean he or she. It's like not proper usage of the... Like, y'all y'all. So it. Of the pronoun. The reviewer has a good point. Yay. Awesome. We also had not feedback, but a question from Matt Tim who has returned, now that the world of darkness has returned as well, and he said to me that he's going back to listening to the drugs and his stuff. Oh, look at that. We turned him to the dark side. Did I want to... Away from the dark side. If I could play it, he can listen to it. Oh, there you go. And the question, I guess, is for Jim and maybe Ryan and potentially Doug, because you all have Android phones. Do any of you listen to podcasts and what is the best podcast listener on the Android? Wow. You asked that question. Yeah, I did. And my solution was, I don't use any podcasts, things anywhere on the Android. The way I get our podcasts is I pick it up with the Facebook link that I get up popping up to. Hey, put something out new. I just hit the link there and download it. Okay. So there's a link there, and there's also a link on our KOTN Podcast.com blog site. And there's also a page on our blog site that lists every past episode for each campaign. Most of them. What do you mean most of them? Yes, I know you're a slacker. I've been doing it for the last four. That's why it's so hard. So, yes. Everything a lot of them. Victory. I just hit on the iPhone and I heard that there's an Android equivalent. I use that on the iPhone as well, and it's good. I really like it. The problem that Matt was having is the app he's using, and I don't know that he even mentioned what its name was. But when he was loading ours in, it was missing 58 through 87 or something. They just weren't there. No matter what he did, he couldn't get access to those podcasts. I know they're out there. Why the app? Why the app? There's actually a... Well, see that's only an iTunes app, so it doesn't work for me. I haven't made an Android one yet. Would... Wouldn't it do that? I don't know. The official K-T-O-N app. Downcast? Downcast? Is there a one for the iPhone? Android version. There's one. There won't be a podcast. There won't be a podcast. There won't be a podcast. We didn't have a podcast. I don't know. We've had a couple of people. No, ladies, subscribe to it. We've had a couple of people post some replies. Yeah. Ideas on. And I don't remember what they said, because I don't... We've had an Android. Yeah, I don't know. I don't can throw that out there if anyone knows a good Android. But see, a lot of people with Android's did make suggestions and Jim didn't like any of them, so that's why I was going to the master of Jim, and asking him, since he probably thoroughly reviewed all those different pipes. What's it... Is that supposed to do? Is that an aggregator? Yeah. Yeah. That's an episode that's come out that just automatically downloads. iTunes operates that way for the iPhone, but it is a piece of shit. And they have a separate app. They have a separate app that's called Downcast, that is much not separate. Someone wrote an app, and it does the third party app, and it works much better. Somebody said Podkicker was good. Okay. I see Podkicker here. Don't say "Downcast" was the crap. Yes. I heard a good thing about Dogcatcher. I see that. It's got five stars. Well, it has to be good though. What doesn't? From one person. Yeah. How we did five stars. Come on, Dogcat. The part of my hand is the one app I was using all the time ago could not find our feed anywhere. And then I tried like two or three others at the time and couldn't find it, and I just got frustrated with it, and said, "I'm just going to..." And I actually created it. Well, that's why they're called. Because you couldn't find them. Yeah. Well, I blame our webmaster. Two. No, I don't see "Downcast" for Android. True. You just can't take it. So that's our best suggestion. Go to our web page blog. Or? Or maybe we'll have a better answer. A five-star one that you have to just... But Jim was saying it doesn't work for him, and he doesn't find it. With that particular one? Well, the one I was using way back in the day, I don't even know if that name wasn't what it was. Uh-huh. So we do not have a verification. Yeah. They're all five-star. They all look just for a lot. They look at anybody fun. So kotmpodcast.com, there's a list there. They're broken down by campaign. There's also the Amazon link. Use that. Thank you. Have a nice day. And this is the last reminder. Since this is the last episode of World of Darkness, this is your last chance to get any questions for our wrap-up. Questions from the listeners. So submit them, feedback@kotmpodcast.com or on Facebook. But not Twitter. Not Twitter. Don't do Twitter. Because Twitter's dead. Twitter's dead. Five years ago, it's gone. We're calling it. Somebody got it. It's all the fun. We have decided. Or hit us on Twitter @kotm_podcast. Any of those places send us a question and we'll include answers during the wrap-up session. And enjoy the final episode of Shagrin. This is the World of Darkness story. Shagrin. You're a storyteller, Scott, with me tonight on My Right Is. Jim playing Kidio Connor Nunn, or the Malius Noah Parcarma. I'm Tom playing Jay Alton, member of the ascending ones and leader of this sad, sad group of people. Mike playing Michael Clay, the academic adventure from the ages, Kai Doru. Bob playing FBI Special Agent Chew Park, member of the Basky Ukes-Pairsey. How is playing Edgar Montes, a voodoo and practitioner, and a member of the late misteris conspiracy? John playing Daniel Morgan, mountain man, term mercenary, and next member of Task Force Factory. And with us tonight, making a special guest appearance, although not playing, some of you remember Greg. Hello. Also, under Lucius Morales. Also under Lucius Morales. So I just want to get this straight. You have a silver stake. He has silver bullets and hers is blessed, and you're trying to drive the vampire towards me and Daniel. You know I'm trying to when you're trying to guard your back. Yeah. I want to get over there, vampire. I'm going to let you argument if it means so when you go under the bus. No, it's not about throwing him under the bus, it's about to feeding this vampire. Chew. We're just talking. I don't know. I don't know. Again, I'm going to stick with persuasion. Okay. Well, you should try to change up a little bit in just what you're saying, as opposed to just saying the same thing over and over, because it's not really working. It doesn't seem to work. You used the same talents, but persuaded with a slightly different spin on it, just to make it more interesting for all of us. Have you tried telling him that the girl he's looking for doesn't have a sibling in this one does or something? I think Mike mentioned that and that was the bonus that he gave me. I don't think so. No. That was all. That's all. Okay. All right. That's a good point. I mean, these are siblings. This isn't Rockland. This girl isn't possessed of spirits, and you can hear what's going on elsewhere if we can distract them long enough that maybe Katie can take her shot. Maybe I can close with anybody, but if he's going to get close to me, the child is going to get a silver stake in his gut with my dying breath. And I would have died saving children. I'm happy with that. Go get him. You're talking. I'm giving you options. I'm trying to feed you out. Well, first of all, Mike, make your role to see if you can support him. You're supporting him. Same thing as before. Three died? Yep. Maybe you hold your screaming headset up in the air. Just people screaming and being scared. Ooh, nothing. It was a very impacted speech. Everyone will leave. Okay. What you guys pull and what are you saying? I'm still sticking with persuasion. I'm going to ask him if he knows how many girls are at this farm, because obviously he hasn't done his research. This is a reoccurring point. Tell him over a dead bite. It's a loss for your team. It looks like a loss for ours. Let's all just go. I want to ask him, where are you going to take the girl? Because we're all headed to the same place, right? Where would you? Wiss and Tate. And Wiss and Tate used to be a member of Task Force Valkyrie. So why don't we just all take her home? Go ahead and put your dice pull together. Whoa. You gave Winston Tate away? I think Winston Tate is a known factor. I have no idea. Someone that he had been getting from the first adventure, too, or first story was that he's trying to requisition records for Task Force Valkyrie and they're blocking them and not sharing information nice, like government agencies are trying to do. So it's pretty much a known command that you think. So what you dice pull? Shoot. Seven. Okay. Minus one because Michael Clay is stepped over his words a little bit and tripped you up while you were talking. And then two for the social defense. As the rules written, you don't get any minuses if you fail to help. Only if you do a dramatic failure, you subtract misdice pull. However, dramatic failures never fucking happen in this game. It just never happens. So if you have three or more dice and you fail to give someone help, since one out of three is the ratio of success, I subtract one die from your effort because you basically talked over him or just tripped in his way. It's a house rule and it's not a house rule that you're just using now. I don't know. You can be four. Yeah, four. But we usually don't fail that terrifying. Right. You guys almost always help each other. Yeah. I just want you to be clear. He's down to three. Four. He's down to four dice. Seven. Seven. Seven. One success. All right. The point that you made to about how many girls are here, you've done research. You know this could be somebody else. That line seemed to strike home with him and he saw like a little bit of thinking going on in his mind. Looked like he caught him a little bit off guard. The other stuff about being on the same team and we're all going to share the info. That didn't seem to register as much, but he couldn't think because he was distracted by your first point that you made that kind of caught him a bit. Right. He comes back at you and says, yeah, listen, I realize there were a lot of kids here. It was obviously almost like a fucking commune. The point is you're walking out with that girl. That's my point. Why would you be walking out with one girl? Why can't you rescue everybody if that's what you're here to do? Because you kill them all. These are the two. These are the survivors. I didn't kill anybody. Again, nothing got on fire until you guys showed up and started shooting us. It wasn't our chance that we brought the napalm. Well, let's not worry about who's shy at who's first. I am. Since that seems to be your point. We didn't bring a helicopter to this party. Right. You know, so it's your napalm. Also, we're bringing the boy. So it's not like we're just rescuing the girl. That's the point we'll use. He has six diceies attacking you with. He takes two off your defense, correct? Yes. What is he doing? What's the official defense? He's just going with the rationale of why the fuck are you walking out with one girl. You came here for one girl. You're walking out with one girl. Who I look at me idiot. Why wouldn't that be the girl? His point strikes home. You realize that that does look kind of bad. You take one damage to your nerve, which is your social health, which you have seven of. So he kind of staggers you a bit with his argument back, but not enough to really throw you too far off your knee. Yeah. Assistance has to be the same dice pull that he's rolling. Yes. What are you rolling? Persuasion and composite? Yeah. Okay. I can switch it up with something else. No, I'm just wondering if I was making a little gym or something like that, but I'm not at all. Rice, whispers in your ear as you're running, how many should I take? One of all of them. Just one? One of them. That's her turn. Katie, you're up. While I'm aiming, can I do a war role on this whole picture? Shit, she's been dead for a decade. She has no headphones. You're right. Like a total contract. Amy is supposed to be a total contract and all her actions taken. Okay. Well, I'm going to continue doing that then. Okay. So you're at what else? Two now. Takes us to Edgard. Edgard, you go. Take your picture. Take your own picture. Pictures. Pictures as a whole. A group shot? If it could be any picture, there would have been pictures of other people. It was all her. There's no reason to believe it would be anyone else. Okay. Edgard, rock, a composure role. Add one to it for the mental happiness that you got from your tactic earlier in the evening. Also add one die because you're already fucking moving and you're being dragged half right and on. I'm stopping. I'm not going to subtract, but these things are definitely coming in and attacking and screaming and moaning and it's scary, but I'm not taking it away because you're not going to run right through them. You're going to go around them. I would assume. Yeah. Okay. Go ahead and make a three die role. Okay. There's two successes for you. Wow. All right. You find your resolve. You could do this. This is what you do. You've learned about spirit your whole life. Your grandfather taught you on his knee. You taught me not to fuck with giant time spirits that want me dead. I'm leaving in the voice of reason. Yes. You're able to beat the live and shit out of that voice of reason down into a pulp which allows your flight response to kick in and be able to just basically work with your lizard brain. Go. My lizard brain makes so much sense. I'm just going to do that. Should I stop to take a picture? Yeah. Really? Yes. Okay. I don't roll around. You're going to do that? Yes. That's enough to run. You remember just probably what, well for you, could have been a half hour ago, could have been three days ago, but you know, you passed out in the field and you were exhausted and you were bleeding out. But here you find yourself with your legs back under you, you double move you, I'm assuming you don't run straight down the path because that's where Daniel is running down and spirits are swarming in that area. So you kind of just take a little side track and keep on moving east towards the vehicles. Is the damn trailer still there? There's a lot of chemicals that make up a trailer park trailer. And that thing is smoltering, flaming, it's white hot right now. This is closer. This makes too happy. This makes too very happy as we run by. Hey, trailer time fire. That gets in plus two on his dice to argue. It's like, it was even, it was, it was in this below. Okay. Edgard, you double move. That's all you're doing. You're putting your head down, you're listening to your lizard brain and you are just knees and elbows running as fast as you can towards the exit to this horrendous seat. It's hellhole. Exactly. That takes it. I'm using it. I take out my phone. I have many pictures of myself on there. So I just open one. I am only moving once to get near the ghost and then I'm yelling at him and holding up the phone. Okay. And you have. Can you ask yourself? Is that what you're saying? Yeah. Okay. You ask my advice and then you're just gonna fuck it. You don't know nothing. I gotta try. I feel it's done in a very good zoom. I gotta try. I'll do it for anyway. Your advice says this won't work. I'll let you know how it works. God, he was right. Trust the paragraph. I turned into dust. Okay. So I run at them and scream at them. You worthless piece of shit, half ghosts. You're not even a whole ghost. Oh man. That's wrong. No. He's just a head. He's a head. You're not even a full ghost. Okay. Oh God. You go after with little baby girls. Not even men. Bring it out. I've got three turnaround. I'm holding up my phone. Right. How long are you charging at it? Totally. Just huge black eyes. Again, the jaw. You see it drop and distend out. It's terrifying. Really. On every level. I'm gonna make you make a roll. Sure. You're up close and personal right now. You've seen some shit. Fallujah. Fallujah didn't have a stand. Fallujah didn't have a stand. Fallujah didn't have a stand. Fallujah didn't have a stand. Fallujah didn't have a stand. Fallujah didn't have a stand. Fallujah didn't have a stand. Fallujah didn't have a stand. Those eyes, those huge eyes of the decapitated time spirit looks at it and just absolutely unravels. Just you see entrails spinning. You see the face ripping apart. You hear a deep, deep, low moan of death and it just evaporates. Or does it go into your phone? One of them is gone. Two. Just say vaguely the same thing in a different way. With some help. We're going to use the gold bow. We're going to use the gold bow. My line. I got a press. Oh, listen. Can you have one boy? Yeah, one girl and one boy because it's all that's left after these assholes killed everyone on the farm. Right. These are the only survivors that we've found. How long are friends? You guys get here. And even they were pulled out of a burning building, you dick. You know that you is probably a good fighter. It's probably a good five minutes before they get you. They're that far away? They're that far away. Correct. You are far along the path. They're not even halfway to where the path starts. And Katie's drawing her beat on the vampire, so she's right. I thought she was. I'm itching to pull the trigger. Give her a third turn to aim so that she gets a little better. Why is the vampire okay with him? Because Katie's so inconspicuous. He's a, well, again, metedaming slightly. He's a vampire. He has no fear of bullets whatsoever. The fact that the pistol, he's encountered... It turns this from lethal into bashing. He can erase bashing with some of his powers that he has by studying some willpower. Well, the vampire version of willpower is absolutely no fear of guns at all. You can see that I'm in a physical wreck. And I think you can see that she is bleeding from her side and is barely standing up. He's hunched over and pain and gasping. I can't give pretty well with the plus drop, though. He knows we have access to that. Yeah. It's the two things that he had. He's a military leader of Task Force Valkyrie. So, somebody's going to be... And he's committed to getting what we... I was going to stall until everyone got here. I don't think we can afford this stall. Just try to convince me again and then Katie will shoot him with a plug. Well, the way I look at it, there's only three choices. Oh, four choices. One, we convince him that this is the kid and he goes back towards the barn. Two, we engage him in a combat and hopefully between the three of us, we... One of the elites. We get through. The three, we convince him that this is a bad night for everyone. No one's getting to pay out, so just go. That's really all I can see it happening. Can you get four? Wait. I did, but I think it was really, really angry. Wasn't he in the house? Oh, four. I just leave. I fuck you all. Was he in the house? He was in the house. Yes, but he wasn't. He didn't fall a window and land on a storm shelter. Yeah, but he fucking looked at the pictures. True enough? Again? Just so you know, dark, standing 15, 20 feet away, pitch black night. Game power. They see through the dark. Yes, and else never trip. I know. I did it, right? But look at what the bad partner has as an ability. It's something to work off of. Yes. I'm sure you... It's the only bad partner that doesn't see in the dark. He can see you right into your soul. I understand. Mike, you have a flashlight. Shine the light on this girl's face. This isn't your girl. And just, again, met a game slightly. Right now, you're winning. See, you think you're winning. Actually, you don't really, I don't think you have no idea. But you think you're winning in the social country. Sure. Against a vampire. But, you know, he's a little tired. He's out of his element. Because vampires, you don't lose social duels to anyone. And he's already taking the pizza part. He's taking the pizza part. He takes the social combat system off a vampire? Again, yes, it did. But again, he's a military vampire. And Dan Heil and I out military did his ass and chased him out of a burning house. Not much vampire. No. He's really kind of exotic. I think you're going to win the social combat. I hope I should just switch to empathy. Try to empathize with him. Listen. You've been on a bad day. You've been on a bad day. You need to do one other game. You need to do one more game here. Go ahead. He's calling to do. I thought you was gonna fix me up. Right. It's dropping on the ground. It's just wasting. Sometimes you just gotta give up. Well, that's a good idea. I mean, we are bleeding enough that we can probably... Oh, look at this. You're making such a step. Oh, that's all you. Perhaps we should talk to whatever you want to do. It's so gross that he'll do something like that. Right. We're serious. We don't... You probably don't want to drive the vampire into a frenzy. A blood frenzy. I'm just saying it's a good idea. It's just an idea. Why are you mocking me? I'm not mocking. I think you're here for a donut. Blood frenzy? A vampire? Not good. It's not good. Michael would like to go with you into the woods alone. Right. And after this blood. That's what he's telling us, man. Or whatever you want to do with the curtain. I'll come back. Which skills can you using something Michael could try to help you? I don't think Michael could play as much. He does. Empathy? He has empathy. I got a little empathy. You have a little empathy? I'm gonna try to empathize with him. Okay. You know, I know what it's like to lose... Are you using your composure? The team member... Collaboration or presence... Comporters and matter? I think that'd be... You're manipulating him. You're manipulating him. I'll try to use empathy, so I don't know... Yeah. You don't give a fuck about that vampire? Maybe you don't do. Chew cares about very little in life. In a vampire blocking his way, a lonely road is probably not someone he cares about. I mean, you don't need empathy. I know what it's like to lose people who you're close to. You really feel bad for him? Well... No. You have intimidation. My point is, if you really feel better... Empathy doesn't have to mean that you feel bad for someone. It just means you... Oh, I get that. That's what I'm doing. What are you basing it off of? Real emotions, which would be composure, keeping your calm and talking about real things that are happening. Or are you trying to play 'em? You're trying to play 'em. You're trying to manipulate that vampire. No, I'm straight up saying, you know, I know what it's like to lose teammates, team members... Oh, okay. That you're going through. If after you truly believe that composure plus empathy... And we are on the same bike. Composure, we're on the same team here. So, I have three dice. Okay. There's no reason for us to engage in combat right now. Okay. Ooh, one success with zero. Kind of again. And the two successes, right? Two successes. Two successes. To the best. I'm pointing to the composer or manipulation. You said you're staying composed and empathetic, and you truly believe what you're saying. So, I'm going with it. I don't believe it. I do. That's important. Two... Wait, wait, wait. Don't be growing all those guys yet. High as 10. Minus 27 because I don't want to lose this fight. No kidding. That's what everyone says. I never want to lose the fight, right? Oh, he's... Who's that? James Bond. Vampire. Are you really getting the listeners? Yes. Oh, he's remembering that one comment. Or is Triple Agent, you know, he's always... That was good. He really... He came at me. That was a fun one. Minus two for his defense. And this is a strange tact. I don't think he was expecting some empathy for me. So... Talk guard. Let's go with no more minuses. Get set. Two. So, Minus two for his... Social defense. Correct. I'm rolling seven dice. Wow. He is a social machine. Yes. He's the anti-sister, Katie. Wow. One, two. I see four with two zeros. Oh, man. Five. Those two zeros. Yeah. This guy on. Oh, damn. He's falling over. Two zeros. Oh. Oh. Five successes. We've probably cracked the five barrier. We're in the same team, man. What you doing? His shoulder slump. You could actually see some exhaustion in his mad human eyes. Well, he looks these like eyes matter. That's fucking matter, isn't it? Duh. You lost the empathy. Yeah. That's fucking dumb, man. We've been arguing about this for ten minutes. No. Can't I just laid out some truth, man? Can I just shoot him? He looks at you and he's like, "Yeah, that's not her." I just want... I want to get our people back, man. I just want to go home. We're trying to get him. Okay. We're trying to come here in the first place. And that was truth. Yeah. That's truth. We're trying to find his people, too. We're trying to find what happened in the upgrade, too. So, maybe this is an opportunity. You could say it to him now. Yeah. Well, this is an opportunity. You could talk right to the vampire. No, because I know. You don't want to talk to me. That's all we're looking for, too. We've been trying finding her. This girl is going to bring back the agents. Aren't they dead? No. They're not. We don't know they're dead. They're missing. And this girl that we can't find and that we thought would be the answer. Don't let her talk. Oh, I know. Aren't they dead? They're dead, right? That's a shame. They're going to see him again. But he just says, "No, we think the..." He looks like he doesn't want to talk, but he wants to talk. He's in the middle of fucking nowhere, and the sun's going to rise in about six hours. That's getting nervous. He's got his helicopter back. Well, how about this? I'm just saying this is his body language and you can see him. When Chu hits his exceptional success, his body language changes. And he goes from this hard-ass, Valkyrie agent who is a vampire to be frenzied and rip your heart out and eat it to just an exhausted warrior far from home who was hoping that this would be the key to saving his team, well, three teams that he's lost or friends that he's lost. Well, for now. But these ones he's not getting back. And so he says, "Okay." Well, here, let's say it like this. We don't have to answer things, but just keep this in mind. We share the same goal. We share the same mission. We're trying to find your people, too. We need to know what happened, and maybe later you can remember that. And after this night, you can look up Jay Alton and he will get us hooked up. Here's a boss. Wait, it's served me to the van. He's our leader, guys. Here's our leader. This is his phone number. This is blood type. This is your own case. You're fucking hungry or something. This is a case of a particular taste. I have respected the chain of command and you guys are trying to make it sound like I'm trying to serve him up. You don't like it, right? No. I don't think you're wrong. Okay. Again, his disposition changes. His shoulders smell better. He looks exhausted. Good. All fresh. And he says, "Listen, I don't know what's going to happen to the rest of this night. But those people have to be found." And it's my belief that the girl is a key. She's a gateway. They're somewhere. And she's the key to opening up that gateway. I don't know how. We don't know why. There's still a lot of questions unanswered. But if I don't see the end of this night, somebody's got to fucking do it. And I really didn't think it was going to be you assholes. But if that's what we're left with, then that's what we're left with. And that's, you're my last best hope. Find the girl, man. Find her. Is there any more information you can give us? Who's on a clipboard? He tells me more. You can just find this any way out. I'm just the task force leader for this particular mission. I don't have a lot to go on. But what I told you is classified information. Believe me, your boss has been pulling a lot of strings. Running into a lot of roadblocks to get the information I just shared with you. This girl is the key. She's a gateway to our missing agents. I know it. My bosses know it. If you find her, great. If you don't, find some way to talk to the fucking dad. Because you've got to find where she's at. And with that, he turns off and starts walking back towards the gate and his vehicles. Or his vehicle. That's actually disabled. Actually, he did go back there. He knew that already. And he's like, it won't be for long. It's all he says. Because he continues to walk a lot. It's just your kid. He's probably talking about it. Trying to a bad fly away. Whatever you're down there. If you're super even straight, they're ripped and gait out of the way. That would be like great. Okay. I'm sorry. That was the end of the social combat ended with an exceptional success that drove some information that would not have been attainable any other way than through that social combat and taking him down. So that was a really nice job by all three of you. Because you couldn't roll Katie. You had ideas. And Michael, you're helping. Those twix are dicey. That was pretty important. That takes us real quick back to the top of the key in J because there's still people out in the blood soap fields trying to get out alive. Sorry. With Edgard first. I run farther. Right. You're just running as fast as you can through the flaming fields, burning buildings, the spring farm. And that's what you do. That takes us to J then. Yeah. I try to break free of this death grip on my neck. What? So the spirit has become corporeal. Right. It is in all its teeth and face. Well, obviously my sniper rifle is way too close range for that. I have quick drop, hold my glock and just shoot the part closest to the neck. I don't know if he's still solid at the far end of his. Whatever solid is the most solid part. Right. But shoot closest to. Okay. Yeah. You're sure the technical is with the smoke. There's like huge fires going on right now. So with all that said, maybe it would be a little bit tough to tell whether the whole thing has gone corporeal or not. Right. So unless you wanted to actually make a roll to see, I'll go with the fast draw and fire at the part of it that's whole. Is it going to matter if I shoot a ghost in the head? It's a fucking ghost. Boss, I told you I'd kill it even though I'm just fucking shoot it. I stopped one from getting to the girl. A little costly, but yeah. Shoot it. I shoot it. Just in the, I'm not going to bother looking. Right. I mean, if it's free, I look. It's just a hard roll. So go ahead and make a perception check. Let me know what your dice call is. Five. Okay. So track, let's say two for the elements around us, the heavy smoke. The distance that it's away from you and the fact that is it corporeal? Is it kind of half corporeal? Some tell. So three S. One success. Your best guess is the whole thing is corporeal. Okay. Never hurts to shoot it in the head because of penalty. Yep. But I don't miss. Oh, that really is. It's only a head. Yeah. It's only a head. What the fuck can I roll for? I shoot it. Sure. What's your dice call? The cool is ten. Four for DX, four for firearm and two for the block. I also have pistols, so actually one more. Eleven. How are you asking that these heads are normal sized human heads or are they like big monster oversize? Right. The head started off as a normal sized female head. One of the jaws unhinged. The head became a little bigger. So the minus four, the head, I believe, is a minus four. I think so. So we're going to go with minus three. We'll take it down a notch. Because it's a big hedge. Because it's a bigger hedge. It's a bobble-headed ghost. Right. You know how many silver bullets are doing, right? Not that matters, but just. No. You're not doing anything special with that. Okay. Go ahead and roll. No, I'm enduring it with my own face. Oh, man. Sure. Shoot successes, both ten against. Okay. And that's it. Just tick. The bullets seem to lodge into the head of the beast. The tentacle loosens around your neck. Not off. You can feel it loosened. I attempt to run. All right. It's going to be fine. You could go. Go ahead and start your dash. Let's say strength plus athletics. Two. And you try to rip free from it's strength. Two for strength, three for athletics five. Five must track another two dice for the grip it has on you. One ten again. Nice. And another ten again. Yes. And two successes. All right. You tear yourself free and you do feel the tentacles are obviously not. They're barbed of air. And that's barbed almost. But just like there's kind of burning sensation from the blood. It's actually now real now. It's no longer incorporeal. Right. So it burns your neck and kind of you get a rope burn sensation. It's pulled off and you go ahead and make your full movement back down the path towards the one spirit. The one in my spirit remaining. That takes us to Daniel. I do start to arch around then. Now that there's only the one left. What are you doing? What are you doing? What are you doing? There's one back in Jay. Get the one behind us. No. Yeah. Who's Jay? The guy that helps save you. That guy. My boss. Say what are you playing Jay? The ghost. She says oh okay. So she again tries to hold it as you circle back around. And again it's 100 degrees outside. And again it's harder than that because of the flames. And again she's nervous and you're running and bumping her around. So her hand is shaking. And she has three dice. One success. Time again. That's all. The same thing occurs. The eyes lock in. They can't seem to almost help it actually as they're drawn to the image of grace. And the tentacles start to whirl around and whip in some kind of. If she does this before I finish my movement then I stop one movement in and take it out of her hand. Say we gotta get this to deal with the laws. That's fine. You can do that. The tentacles whirl around and it starts to disincorporate. The face gets ripped into and it basically goes to wherever it is that spirits go when they look at pictures of young ladies. Or this particular young lady. That's that other. Yeah. Wherever spirits go when they look at pictures of grace. That was much better. That takes us to... Actually are we still trying to get the car? Well no I'm not. You're maybe moving now. Are you going to play the water with them? Hey you want a car for you? No no no. Well the gate is locked. We have to go. There's a big hole next to the gate where this car went through. You just have to climb over the car. Well he knows that but also the task force leader who you believe to be a vampire is walking right down the path. Just letting him know. He's not going down into the crevice. He's walking to the cars or walking back into the cars. Okay. We're going right down the main path. We're going to open the door. Let him go first but if somebody does. Yeah. We'll be well open the door. But you know I still want it. Because this is over. I'm just there a werewolf flare. It's this kind that killed my husband and I was so ready to kill him. Jesus? Pre-nut. Oh Pre-nut. Pre-nut. This is the first husband. What is it not? This was the whole new Christian thing I had never heard of before. Well we could talk about this end game of you guys. Let's do the end game really quick with them. The spirit that is with you and that you ran away from. That I'm moving towards Daniel? Right. Yeah it follows you. I think I pissed it off. It moves into position. I love it. Sorry for any time. It's coming straight at your back. I'm sure you're looking around occasionally but it's absolutely trying to get you. It looks like your speed is a little bit more than its speed but it can whip tentacles. It ends up being 10 or 15 feet away. Not tentacle. But basically an entrail. It tries to spin off again and grab you with again. So your defense is two. Everyone. Revets this. But I also have a cavalar. There is one for that. So I have three roll. And it missed. Three and a four. So you feel the swoosh of air parting near nearby you in the night. And you talk to you hear that. Is it wisest by? You're so glad that you're not once again being strangled by the entrails of the. Oh yeah. Corporal. It was a giant favorite moment. And you were able to. It's still making that. But you were able to fight off the fear because you have succeeded already. So it doesn't penetrate to you. And you were already risen above and so it's crazy. So the people who are really most at odds here have all succeeded against its fear ability. That takes us to Daniel. And I would imagine you're holding it out. I hold it on high and start shouting at the spirit as I approach it. Hey, hey, hey. You are. Right. They don't seem to like half ghosts. Kind of pisses them off. And it too looks at the photograph of grace and unravels. I wish you'd have one of these in their wallet. Currently. For us. For us. Spirit bands are really cool. If you know what spirit you're fighting. You know what spirit you're fighting and you happen to have what you need on hand. So I'll catch up with Daniel and say good job. Hey, Gracie, smile. Click. Okay. I thought I had time because they weren't going to catch up to me. I was going to like step back and say, say cheese. Okay. We will. There's some background. What's up to you three right here. Let's do Chew, Michael Clay and Sister Katie. I guess the question for the three of you is as Vincent is walking away, do you let him walk away? Was the empathy real? Was the conversation real? Or do you do something else? I think, prudently, using my virtue, I would say, let walking vampire walk. I will remind Michael Clay that I put you in charge of that to a treating group. It's your call. Let him go. Keep an eye on him. If he comes back or tries to double back, then Katie you open fire. But for now, we got out of it and let him go. I will mention that just to throw one little last thing out there, Katie's vice is envy. And one of the creatures who was responsible for her husband's death is walking away right now. Well then, if he were wrath, I would be afraid. And I want to change it to wrath and if I had, I would have shot him. But right now, I don't think envy really plays into it. Right now, I'm using my virtue of faith that, yes, see, that we're letting this guy go for a reason and we're talking to the odds. We need information more than we need at that vampire. I want to, yeah, I want to, and I also want to be in a much better, I think it would be much more prudent, but I really wanted to do it this way. Gotcha. I am sitting in the car already waiting for these guys home. Right. You get to the gate. The lots on the gate have been cut. They are absolutely open. The gate is open a bit and the vehicle that you had disabled is gone. Cool. So now, let's get into here. And just like Jay told us, let's get in the van, get the kids secure, but then let's try to haul in and pick up the rest of them and get far in distance. You hear the sound of fire engine. I actually expected Michael Clay to go the other way. Fire engine? I'm sure Jay'll find a way home. Suddenly. Who's up for an hamburger? Let's go. Okay. Well done, guys. When you drive away, you look one final time over your shoulder and see the conflagration that was Danny Rocklin's life raging in the darkness. A funeral pyre, both literal and figurative, to a man whose one true hope was to shine a light on the darkness that threatened his loved ones. Though that light started as a candle that occasionally nipped at his fingertips, it eventually grew more dangerous, more consuming, until it burned down everything and everyone he cared about. Deep in the pit of your stomach, you wonder if those small flames you carry in your own hunt against the darkness can be contained. Or will you wind up on the fringes of society, raiding like a mad man, until the flame rises to consume you? And even as those thoughts gnaw at your insides, you are heartened, if only a little, by those that were saved. Gracie lies curled and sleeping in Daniel's massive lap. What secrets her mind holds will have to wait for another day. But the promise of those secrets brings a warm surge of strength into your bones that has nothing to do with the maelstrom you just left behind, and two others were shepherded to safety, two innocents that would have certainly fallen prey to the evil predilections that stalked this terrible night. Your mission is complete, though not completed. As always, it seems as if there are more questions than answers. But perhaps that's the price you have to pay in these early days of your investigation. One thing is certain, you came to Shudrin Farm looking for Danny Rocklin, and you found him. Maybe you found a little part of yourselves as well. A part that you need to watch very carefully, less to consume you as it did. Thanks for listening to Nights at the Night at Actual Play Podcast.
