[music] Hello, and welcome to Night to the Night actual play podcast. This world of darkness stories chagrin was written and run by your storyteller Scott. [music] And now, please enjoy episode 132, title, repost. Actual play starts 12 minutes, 30 seconds. [music] Alright, and our feedback will be out to the episode. We have a message from PAIP. And this is from KirbyCrossTalk.webs.com. And this was posted under too little too late our latest episodes come out. That was the episode in which Jay's sister was rescued. The last part of that sort of a kind of a social combat, although there was no ending role between Jay and the Reverend. Well, this is going in a direction I didn't suspect, and has lasted far longer than anyone might have thought. Not that there's anything wrong with that. As we ethnotopically approach the end of this story, look, asymptotes go like this, they go up and they get close and close and close to the y-axis, but never quite reach it. It's a chemical really in word choice then. It certainly is. Never going to end. This story will never end. Oh, okay. I thought that too. That is really relevant. At first the end of this story, we are, aren't we? I am ever more curious to see how it will all knit together. It will, won't it? Great role playing, great storytelling, great editing production. I'll miss the damn farm when it's gone. I won't. I don't. I'm pretty. I don't think any of the players will actually miss the farm. No, I don't think anyone will, but of all the players, I would say Chu and Edgard probably will miss it the least. And just to be clear to the listener who gave that feedback, and I'm sure he's aware of this, but all the loose ends aren't going to be tied up because it's a chronicle. It's a seven story arc. So, for instance, the reverend who got introduced into the story in this past episode, and we're not going to be able to wrap up all the loose ends with him. It's just, that's just part of the flashback and part of the overall story. He might play a bigger role down the line. Well, in real life it doesn't work that way anyways. Right, but a good story should wrap up all the loose ends eventually. No? At least maybe. Yeah, okay, fair enough. Yeah, leave a few strings I can't say. See the last episode of Sopranos. I guess they just kind of left you out there. Yeah. That was good. I liked it. I was surprised at how you brought back around the sister story though. The flashback that will hold on so well done. Sure. Thank you. I appreciate it. I'm glad he's enjoying it, and like we talked about last week in feedback, we probably have what now, two episodes left, maybe three before the end. Somewhere in that range, right? Well, so perpetually. A handful. Yeah, to keep with the things. Same number we've been saying in three months. Well, since this feedback is being recorded before the episode, is done being edited. Right. It may be edited down to just one. Oh, wow. This might be the last episode. Or it might be the second last episode. So, there you go. All right. Next. We also have some feedback from Facebook, Episode 131, same thing, too little too late, in which Richard Watts said, "That was creepy and disturbing on a purely mundane level." Way to hit all the bases. Scott, props on your use of the word "emptual" as well. Actually, I think that prop was the mic. I was going to just give him some credit because, did he make it in? Yeah. Did we talk about it and discuss it? Okay. I thought maybe I just said "emptual" because you might have cut that out and not realize that Mike had given me the inspiration for "emptual." If I did, we're admitting it now. Right. Mike was the "emptual" man. Thank you very much for saying that the episode was creepy in a very, but all the way or in a very mundane way. That's super natural to be creepy. Yeah, doesn't have to be. Truthfully, I would have to say that the creepiest moment in the whole thing was probably "choose flashback." And again, there's the "bonality of evil." A sicko dad, it's amazing how you can... It's more scary than sometimes ghosts or vampires or whatever else. Right. This being an audio format, it's much easier to understand why that something that's human nature can be way more disturbing than when you try to describe a monster with entrails hanging down. Right. I mean, people can get that in their mind, but they're still not going to really freak them out. And just to deal with something that's unfortunately human and in some places, wait a minute. I think that's what does make it more scary, is that it happens. It's based in reality. There's fuckers out there that are killing kids and wearing them like suits and wearing dead bodies and doing all sorts of things. That's walking dead. I hate this. It's not the zombies anymore. It's the other humans. Yeah, that are dangerous. You know what's kind of creepy listening to that one with Bob's character? Shoot. The trailer back then happening so shortly after we had a real life thing with the three girls. Oh, right. Yeah, being rescued. And I know that actually happened earlier. Right, but still. Yeah. It's creepy. I was watching Discovery ID today, which I enjoy watching some mystery shows on there and some of it's disturbing. Anyways, I was watching a show called Twisted or something. And it was a story about truth or consequences in New Mexico. And James Parker Ray, the inspiration I had for Chew's father. And it was 20 times worse than the Chew episode. The guy was horrible. It was just horrifying because he picked these victims who most times he just killed him after he filmed it. I mean, they had to watch the videotapes of police. I can't even imagine how you even can watch that and not be just black and your soul for the rest of the eternity. But he would let some go. Occasionally, just on a whim. And no one believed them. Because he would pick people who were the women who were like the drugs of society and be like, "Oh yeah, I was chained up and crazy." He's not an upstanding but just a regular guy with a regular job. No, she wasn't here. I don't know what you're talking about. Okay, sorry, sir. You're crazy. They would tell these prostitutes, these women who were vagrants or whatever, that they just didn't believe them. And they had the most horrifying things occurred to them. And no one believed them until someone a little more reputable, they took and she escaped. They didn't let her go because they would have killed her. But she actually escaped through some grace of God and showed up in the police station with chains still wrapped around her and stuff and they eventually caught him. And this is just for our fans. This is what you watch for relaxation. Yes, exactly. I was actually falling asleep after the afternoon nap for a short time. That's what I had on in the background. This is where inspiration is. Lime Allen also commented and said that was a good episode. Exclamation point. However, you said in the feedback that you'll include how new folks can contact you. And then there was only the closing music without takes at the end, no instructions. What I meant by that is in the outro music is a mention of our forum and our email and every way that you can contact us. I really need to redo that because we can add Twitter and Facebook into that. Also very old. Along with, I need to do some promos. Are you sure that was in this week? Because I don't remember hearing it either. Maybe I just didn't hear it because I hear it all the time. Yeah. Maybe that's my honest point. I think I just heard music and then it went. You know, you did the out takes and that was it. I was very tired this week. Maybe. Maybe the one time I said for people to listen for, it wasn't there. And at that point, thank you, Alan. And our last bit of feedback also from Facebook was just in our general Facebook page. And it was from Ari who said, "Following the task force sirens example, I saved the day with my Leatherman fixing the copy server in our cafeteria." Look at that. It's useful. Do you buy that other one using our Amazon and buy it from an identity? Did we even get an animation or did somebody ever animate all that stuff? I don't think we have a thin land-ish link for our Amazon states. That's it with our feedback. Use our Amazon link on our kotnpodcast.com. How did our votes go from 65 to 120? It went back up? Yeah. Because it's fucked. I asked Mike to find any replacement, but apparently. Yeah. That's not important. Apparently it's difficult to find. I did want to mention really quick though that I believe Scott and I, possibly our sons. Well, I don't know about you guys. We can Saturday. We will be down there. Yeah. We will be this weekend. So we'll be down there just for Saturday. We'll be driving down. It's only an hour and a half from our house and we'll be visiting. So, anybody that's down there and want to stop by and say hi, get ahold of us via email and we'll see if we can hook up with you. I just want to walk around and look at the different names. Let the boys, because both of us are bringing our youngest sons. Yeah. And potentially some of mine that play may come. I think John said he wasn't interested, but Thomas was on the fence. I'm afraid of meeting someone. Sure. I hate people. I love others. That wouldn't work. Yeah. What? Meeting someone's "Oh, it's Mike." I've had abuse. I think we do. I mean, it's not like we don't know half of them. Until they started stalking me. They'd be like, "You don't look anything like you sent me." Well, that's exactly what it would be like. Obviously, because it's the same thing. You hear somebody long enough and you're like, "I know what they look like." You see them and you go, "Oh shit." Oh shit. Apparently, he's in a funny picture. I'd give an up and he's sense of anonymity. I mean, I don't think there's a risk or danger or anything. I don't think it'd be kind of fun. You going? No. Absolutely. Would it be awesome fun? Fuck. No. Check it up. I would find it slightly, and I did, when we went to Pete's outing. Do you actually send us? Yeah. He's like, "Dude, I really want to role play with you." I'm like, "I'm not really tight-coated." I go, "Well, you know what I mean?" He's like, "The performance anxiety." I was like, "Be funny. Come on. Be funny." Just like any... I was just driving home, hearing some of this feedback, and it's really wonderful that they think such a good role-playing group, a lot of its editing, and it's like the band. The band kind of... It's really not all about editing. I mean... Really? Really? It's really not. We were sitting at home and I... We stutter. I mean, there are some things that we take out in the assides and joke-joking, but I mean, as a group, we've done really... We really play pretty well. I mean, we get into our characters and we play them, and we go along with the stories. The stories are interesting, and intriguing. Part of it, too, from what I've heard, and other people... A lot of the people that I've tried to talk to me, and we get in chats on Facebook and stuff. And a lot of times when they start talking about their adventures, sometimes they tell me things that happen, and I was like, you know, complaining, or whatever. Yeah, you're right. The guy you were playing with was a dick. Right. And not to say... Well, basically, I am saying it. None of us are dicks. Right. We'll let the other person have their moment to shine. There was obviously confrontation between you guys when we were playing. I agree, no one around this table is a dick. But nobody needs to be the star. Everybody's willing to let someone else have their moment in the spotlight and shine. And that, apparently, is less rarer than we believe. Unfortunately rarer than it should be. Well, do you think that's just because of age or... We aren't largely... All of us. We tend to have something to prove for the company. Well, yeah. I mean, we got two young guns here. You guys have been playing games for so long. Yeah, even though we're not new at it. Okay. So anybody who wants to can meet us on an origin, a few of us will be down there. We'll be willing to say hi and meet you and talk to you. And with that, we will allow you to go on to what could kind of be the final episode. So, again, any questions sent to us on Facebook via email, Twitter, all the places that I promise this time I'll actually put at the end of the show. So, thanks. This is the World Darkness story, Shagrin. I'm your storyteller, Scott, with me tonight on my right is... Jim playing Kidio Connor, none. All the... Malias, no for Karl. I'm Tom playing Jay Alton, member of the Ascending Ones and leader of this sad, sad group of people. Mike playing Michael Clay, the academic adventurer from the ages, Kai Doru. Bob playing FBI Special Agent Chew Park, member of the VASQ conspiracy. Thomas playing Edgard Montes, a voodoo and practitioner, and a member of the lay mister's conspiracy. John playing Daniel Morgan, not a man turned mercenary, an ex-member of test course software. And with us tonight, making a special guest appearance, although not playing to me or member Greg. Hello. Also, Dr. Lucius Morals. Dr. Lucius Morals. There are still fans out there that talk about you. Yeah, they won't. Still ask about you. To this day. I think we should go back and do that part, take two seconds. What's that? Yeah, the flashback. The flashback. Oh, let's go back and make Dr. Lucius help everybody and make them give medical care. I can do the roles to save the... No, no, no. I got a great idea. We could wrap this up and Dr. Lucius could heal us all in the after scene. Right. That is. And then flash forward. Okay, I actually have absolutely no idea precisely where we left off last time. I do recall that Jay was crouched over the unconscious form of Edgard, who was... Yes. Also with you in that scene was Daniel. Daniel was running. He was past me and he was... Oh, he started to run the hillock with the girl. You were carrying her back. I was asking her if she knew people kept feeding me information that they have a band or something. Yeah, spirits have a band. We're going to know a thing about that. No. How do you control the spirits? She might be asking people. Right. And he asked a little... She was asking, but I think she froze up. Yeah, she was terrified. Then empathetic. Okay. That was one group on one side of the farmstead. And on the other side of the farmstead was Sister Katie, a social agent at Chief Park, and Michael Clay. They were... We had the drop of the vampire. You could enter it into a social combat with a vampire, if not mistaken. We're going to go ahead and start with the highest initiative, which for this scene is jail. So to pay the picture, there are three spirits that are maybe 20 to 30 feet away from you. Also about 20 foot up in the air or so. They're hovering, if you recall. They're the heads of... They have a head and then hanging head and trails. Meaning it seems that there are bits of femoral in some sense. It looks like you can see through them a bit. They're rather unnerving. They seem to be progressing and moving towards you. You're crouched over the bleeding out form of angered montace. Okay. I have a... A vise belt. Just pick them up and carry on. No, I have a couple things from the flashback. One. You have one. Two. You set the third to your boss. Yes. So I use the one I have on montace to heal him. Yes, what do you do? It is a vial, is it not? It is a vial. It is a vial. No. It is a vial. No, it is an anthial. It's not a needle. I know what to do with needles. It's like, why? It's a little thing of... It's a positive. Right. I insist it. Montice is good. I crack the topper off the core core core. Whatever the fuck is keeping it in there and I spill it down his throat and make him swallow it. Alright. Edgard, can you roll for your juice? I know you actually don't have an issue to roll in this particular scene because you were unconscious. You have some weapon poison. Ooh, yes. That's a nine. That plus six. I can math. Fifteen. Alright. When you pour the liquid down montace's throat, it is an instantaneous effect. Literally his eyes open wide and panic. That sense where you don't know where you are and you don't know what's going on. He is startled, he is absolutely aware that second that his eyes open up. He's hyper aware of anything. I'm keeping hands on his shoulder to keep him under control so he doesn't do anything crazy when he suddenly comes back. Right. You say anything to him at that point. Welcome back. Need your help. Got some spirits. I stand up then. Okay. So you know who are line prone in a pool of bloody grass where you would blood out? Do you smell that coppery smell of blood? Your eyes open up quickly, you see your team leader Jay talking to you, you know, holding your shoulders, welcoming you back to the world of the living. And then he stands up and beyond him your eyes take in the sight of the spirits. I offer him a hand as if I'm going to pull him up, but I'm watching the spirits. Yes. And I'm talking to them now. The spirits? Yes. Okay. Well, you ampuled? Right. You stood up. That's a verb. It is a verb tonight. I am feeling the fuck out of that. So unless you've got one or two words to say, I think your three seconds are probably mostly used up at that. No, it would just be like a single hold, you know, trying to force my will of stopping them. And you do anything along with that pole? Is there any item like a religious symbol or is there, you know, well, you have a crayon with you? I don't have a crayon with you. No, no. I've bought it. Yes. I can use my religious faith. So you say hold to the spirits in the firmest ways you can if they are, again, coming at you and they're decapitated heads with entrails and they're shimmering in glow that, again, is partially see-through and there seems to be a low, heening, moan echoing forth from each of the three spirits as they hover towards you at garden to your turn. Okay. This doesn't heal me at all. I'll just get up. Actually, I'm just going to say you don't know. Okay. I'm fine with that as well. He has a rolling dice one. Oh, no. Or he'll apply a lot of fire? My fire is right. Right. A cult takes a full action. A cult rolled. It would be your instant action. Yes. Not your move action. All right. I'm going to roll a cult then. See if I know anything about these. Recognize them. Just by sight. Okay. Give me a wits plus of cold dice pool, please. He would be aware that these spirits had been inhabiting someone as well too, right? Is that a factor? He wouldn't know that at this point. Okay. I don't know. That'd be nice. Right. I'm going to roll a six dice. I'm going to go ahead and say, you can just roll your six dice. There are no classes or minuses. Wow. Two successes, both tens. Okay. Ten agains and... Oh, two more successes. Four total. Totally. Wow. Almost an exceptional success. You say, "Yeah, Jay, we're fucked." So, looking at the spirits, you realize immediately that these three spirits are spirits of time. In some way or another. There is a past, present and future in these spirits. You can't see it from just looking at them. It's booked now. Is it all three of them incredibly hideous and frightening just in of themselves? But that's what you come up with is the fact that they are spirits of time. The exact name of these spirits you don't know. Just a quick question. Did the spirits have the same physical appearance? Yes. Each of them is female and each of them has... Not almost an ancient but certainly an elderly appearance to them. And, you know, there's distorted features. Again, you're not there specifically but to give everyone else a better view. There's large black pupils for eyes. There's very sharp teeth and jaws that actually detach almost like a snake to widen their mouths. That's right. I thought it was when you said there was a series of times of past, present and future. I was curious if they were of the same entity or person. Right. Well, you do know from listening to the wireless, you guys have it on wireless, but... Radio. Yeah. They all three came out of grace as soon as she exited the storm shelter. So... Does the door still look like Grace's picture? Or does she look healthier now? Well, to be fair, Grace is buried into Daniel's shoulder right now. So... Everything's blazing, all the buildings are in fire. But it's tough to tell right now if her appearance has improved at all. It hasn't been something that Daniel's paid too much attention to. So, getting back to the description. These are definitely spirits of time. These are definitely powerful spirits. You could get four pieces of information for your four successes. So, here's your turn. Yes, so they're spirits of time, they are incredibly powerful spirits in the spirit world. These are things that you would normally probably research for weeks before... Or months before you would think about messing with them, but you don't have that time right now. You are aware that if they were to get ahold of you in a sense of with their jaws, because they don't have hands obviously, but if they get ahold of you with your... You've heard stories where people have literally aged so much they have just turned to ash right there. And the creatures have just consumed ash and that is the person's just gone. There's no getting them back. The fourth piece of information, which is probably the one you're looking for, the hopeful piece of information, is that these spirits do have a ban. The more powerful the spirit, the more restrictive the ban. You're aware of that. If they're a weaker spirit, their ban tends to be pretty common. And hey, they can't... I don't know, they can't attack me right this second. But with powerful spirits, if you know their ban and get their ban, you can really hurt them or drive them somewhere they don't want to go. Driving the way, you know, something along those lines. It comes to your mind from everything that's happened on this horrible night at this farm. It all clicks in the place with your fourth success. The pictures in the house and in the storm shelter. Which I at least heard about. Exactly over them. All those pictures, hey, there's pictures plastered here, there's hundreds of them, there's thousands of them. Probably what was holding spirits in check. Yeah, the spirits most likely have an adverse reaction to all those photographs and all those pictures of grace. But not to grace for self. What I will say to Jay is powerful time spirits, bad, you should run. Tell me everything you know about them, I'll tell you more, run. Yeah, I'm helping you stand. So, you measure move action to stand. Okay. I'm standing in a way that I'm between him and the spirits. He's behind me. Right. So, you look up to his feet and he stands up and he's shaky, wobbly on his feet, but he is standing. The spirits come forward and they actually pass you over you. And they continue on towards the exit. So, they float over you. They're entrails hanging to the point where maybe it's 10 feet above your head as opposed to the creature itself being 20 feet above you. They're moving quickly but not to the point where you're dazzled by their speed. They obviously have some type of form that they're holding together and they're not moving at a great next speed by any stretch imagination. However, they did move quick enough to go from 30 feet in front of you to pass you towards Daniel. And as they're passing again, you see their jaws on hinge and you see just these fearsome teeth and this noise emanates from, they don't really have lungs at this point. And emanate from their mouth and it's almost like a moaning, almost like, almost like the noise you would bake if you had a puncture in your lung. Oh. I've never had that. Dr. Loosier can tell you all about it. A sucking chest wound? Something along those lines, yes. Bad types. Okay. That's all I'm touching. That takes us to two. On the other side of the farm step, you stand probably 50 to 100 feet. It's hard to tell in the darkness from the exit or at least the gate that's the exit that you can't get out of because it's locked. On either side of you, the force closes in and you know off to your right at this point because you're heading down the path of the east. You know off to down to the right, there is a vehicle that was driven through the fence and collapsed it which is how you got into the farm step proper itself. How far is that away? That's probably about 40 foot down a ravine or so. Would it, to the VIP be possible to get back over the fence that way? Oh yeah, absolutely. It was, it could work both ways to get in and out of the facility. Standing in front of you is Task Force Valkyrie, seeming agent who is demanding that you hand the girl over to him. And obviously you have a brother and sister that is, I believe, Michael are they with you? They're behind me and between me and Sister Katie. So Sister Katie is bringing up the rear and you're in front of the children and sister Katie's behind the children. Right. You're maybe five feet out in front. But I was also, to be clear, I was also between the vampire and the children. Yes, absolutely. Because the vampire is another, probably two, probably ten feet in front of you. I thought it was in front, but that's okay. Yeah, sister Katie can be in front of me. When you're in front, that's just how I remember it. If I'm sure you remember it's then we'll say that Sister Katie is in front, a couple of steps in front of Agent Chew Park. And then like, you're behind them with the children, again, behind you in protection. Because I'm so pretty messed up. So you know what he said basically, Chew. He said, "I want the girl. I come here for her. I've lost my entire Task Force. I'm not leaving here without her." And then he started telling you a little bit about Danny Rockland. And how, what he was doing and how he kind of, because you guys said, "Well, what about the bodies that were strung up? Was that your work?" And he had said, "No, that wasn't my work at all. I came here. I mean, Danny went over the edge. That's what happened. He's a hunter, and that happens sometimes. Some guys just can't hack it. And he lost control. And so he's claiming that that wasn't his. And we'll pick up the conversation right there. Again, Mike, go ahead. Are we aware of, in general, something bad go down at the farmhouse? So are we aware of what happened with Jay and Daniel and crew? And what's going on with that? Oh, you're asking me to know that, yeah. You know that shit is hitting the fan on the other side of the farm today. Absolutely. Absolutely. We'll be able to use that. Hm, true. You might be able to take them off. Get them to fight the time spirits. You've been on the girl. You won big Daniel. You don't want us. So it's your turn, Chew. We can enter into the social combat if you want. Or if you'd like another turn or two just to talk to him, that's fine. 'Cause I think I said he just drew his line in the sand and said, "I want the girl." And I think that's what we're going to do. You have to convince him that that's not the girl. I think we actually said that. Like, what are you trying to do? He's trying to get the girl from you. You're saying to him, "This is not the girl you want." Or something else. Whatever you want to convince him of. What we do it against and suppression everyone's mind. You three decide what you want to get 'cause they're going to be helpers. Teamwork kind of helpers to you. You're going to be in the main talker. Okay. It's pretty clear this child has no demons over me. Well, I don't want to let him know. We have the girl. We don't. We do. We. I do. They might go to this one. Yeah, it might go to this one. Yeah, it might go to this one. Right. Okay. Great. But if you want to try to talk him in that this is not the drawing you're looking for. Well, yeah, it said his fault that he doesn't understand what I'm saying. But we're very clear. This isn't the girl that he don't have that looking for. Right. So. I think we're going to try to persuade him. If you look on the social combat, it basically says determine intent. Tell me what the intent is. What are you trying to tell him? He's saying I want the girl. That's it. I want the girl. Someone's going to die here if I don't get that girl. That's his intent. What's your intent back to persuade him that this isn't the girl? And he probably killed the one you wanted, blew it up, and burned it. That's a good idea. Yeah. Do you want a lodge? Start with, start with I want. I want to, just give me a sentence like that please. I want to persuade him that this is not the girl that he's looking for. First. Is it the first round where I'm not trying to get rounds or involved? No, you go first. You're convinced, because he said someone's going to die if I don't get that girl. I didn't come here and lose my entire group to not walk away with this girl. This girl, if you recall it, he had actually said this girl was the key to everything. This girl was the ability to get his 12 missing agents who have disappeared and who he's been looking for. And you guys have actually been looking for those 12 missing agents as well for you to hire to do. He said this girl is the key to that. You don't even know what you're dealing with. I need that girl. So. Can you help me? That's what I'm looking for. I can't. So yeah, I'm just going to plainly state that this is probably not the girl that you're looking for. You guys just come storming in here. You don't do any research. You shoot first as questions later. First, then they turn down the farm. Right. So. You have absolutely no idea what's going on here. Sure. They would probably know the age of the girl. And she doesn't match at all, doesn't she? I mean. Well, the girl's perfect as shit. This girl's supposed to be able to win your caring. He knows that it's Rocklin's daughter and this. He knows what's going on Rocklin's daughter. Enough to know that she won't be the same age as my guess. Yeah, and that's I think that's a good tactic at least to take it to again more information. Look, this isn't Rocklin's daughter. This isn't Grace. But I have Persuasion. You have to use the exact same skill set that he's using for his natural attack. So I can't use anything to. You have to use what he is. I think we're going to go with Persuasion. I have. I've got one more dot. I've got one more dot. So Persuasion 4 dots and you're using. Tell me exactly what you're saying, but. It's an in-turn whether you're using manipulation or whether you're using composure. I'm going to say this is not who you think it is. This is not the girl that you want. But not add to it. Suggest the argument but not add to the title because I don't have the skills for it. Yeah, you're welcome to Whisper in his ear. I mean, that's fine. It's free action. I would just say, look, these are siblings. You're the right. Or an only child. I have a persuasion one that I don't know what can I do to contribute or help to this. I'm going to say that right now you're trying to keep your composure, too. And you're not going to be intimidated by his actions. So it's going to be a Persuasion plus composure role. First, it goes to Michael Clay. Michael Clay, what is your dice bowl? Three. Okay, go ahead. No, in this case, normally I have minus three dollar rolls because of my wounds. But my meditative mind is in place. And so, because it's persuasion and composure, does that? I'm fine with it. Okay. Go ahead and roll your three dice. I'm not going to give you any minuses right now. This is the first instance. All right. So we'll go. I have one success. Yeah. Okay, so that adds one to your dipole, chew. And then we go ahead. This is your cake. Do you have anything to add? Do you have any persuasion in your machine? I can. I got the animal. It's only social. Isn't that a ruler? Great. That's intimidation. That's intimidation. We're not doing that. I could intimidate him with my dogs. My dogs have intimidation, but I don't. Only one person and a social pal, but only one person. A lot of people have to aid in that. And he's not intimidating right now. But if he changes tax, then you can't aid. Go ahead and subtract two dice for his social defense. Okay. And then subtract another two dice because he's pissed off. And he knows what he wants and he believes you're lying. Go ahead. I'm only four dice. Okay. Two successes, one ten again. All right. Oh, it's a one. So two successes. So, you don't know what you're talking about. He comes back at you and says, I sent it already. And I'll say it again. We spent weeks preparing the attack on this facility. The only thing that fucked up this attack was you guys showing up. Nothing was burning. Nothing was dead until you showed up. Again, that's the girl. I want her. I'm not leaving without her. And he's using intimidation. He's bearing his teeth and basically trying to look menacing. Like, I'm going to kill you if I don't get what I want. And what is your social defense? Four. Okay. Which plus manipulation? Which is lower? Uh, two. Okay. That's your defense? That's your guile? And then your nerve. That's your health. Uh, composure plus high social scale. You're setting me in. Set me in. No. Nice. So, he's pretty used to intimidating people. He's pretty used. He's being intimidated. No. Yes, it is. No successes. After everything you've been through tonight, you're like, you know what? You want to put me down? You want to put me to sleep? That's fine. You don't fuck it. This isn't the girl. Keep talking. This is not the girl you're looking for. Well, if he'd studied as long as they did, then he's got to have information on Grace Rockland. And remember, these girls, because you weren't going to kill anyone younger than 12. So, this girl is at least 12 or 13. And Grace disappeared for that while, if you remember this debate story, when she was around 14 or 15. So, I thought that you were talking about a six-year-old title or, you know, a six-year-old adolescent in a 14-year-old tween. We've got situations here where those girls are probably within a year or two of each other. So, it's not that big of a difference. But anyways, his comeback didn't seem to start with you too much. Chima didn't throw you off your game with his verbal attack. That particular part of social combat is over. And we go on to Daniel. I put Grace down for a second. And she'll do my rifle and start loading it with silver bolts. Okay. This is the rifle that I nearly procured. The newly procured rifle. All right. It has one left in there. So, I'm stopping. Because you're setting her down. So, you stop running. You clear it around. You pump the silver bullets. Pack it back into the chamber. And then, what you say to Grace E. Slash Silverball. I tell her, I have silver bullets here. I don't know if these are effective. But I need your help in knowing any manner of weakness that these things might have. Well, I don't know what skill that is. You're trying to calm her down. Because you're trying to calm her down. So, I would say composure plus empathy. Otherwise, it's not your strong suit. Actually, five bucks. So, I stand corrected. I think he kicked the sister's ass. I'm excited. Yeah, I'd say so in this particular instance. Because of her condition, now I'm going to subtract two dice from your attempt. But go ahead. Okay. Come on. Wow, that was a crazy ass spinning dice. It was the one I needed. So, I've won success when I... I don't need an answer right now. I was really trying to calm her so that she could give me one. You tried that last night too when you failed. Which is why I gave you a minus two dice instead of just a minus one dice. Because I figured she was going further and further down. But you were able to talk her down. Straighten her hair out. You look into her eyes. You kind of hold her shoulders and talk to her to calm. Reassuring voice. As you crouch down. At the same time. Oh, he's running double speed. No, he actually stopped. Running. I can't reload a gun and stop running. Yes. How fast did he say? I double ran. And it came towards you. I figure out a time. No, it passed over. He came by him and then passed him. But you were facing the direction. You were running so you probably didn't realize it. Now that I've turned around. They're coming to catch up to me? Not yet. Okay. She says... She says... I... I think they don't... My dad said they don't like pictures. They don't like the pictures of me. I think that's what they don't like. Let's go get a Polaroid. No. They don't like pictures of fur or they don't like pictures of the person that they're possessing. I wonder if you could take pictures of them and if like somehow taking the picture finds certain bands there's whole. Or there's spirit. I like that thought. And who has a camera? Sorry. Over here. Who has a camera? It's not a Polaroid. It's not a Polaroid. It's not a Polaroid. No, it's not. See the screen on it though. Oh. I have an iPhone. Where is the paparazzi when he takes pictures? It does take pictures. It does. It displays them. And displays them as well. Over here. And it pinched their heads. Chases them. All right guys. We've had the rest of your turns too. Yes. I don't have any actions left. All right. Gracie decides to stand there and answer you. And she never is looking over your shoulder or trying to because you're crouched down. So she kind of looking over at the spirits like... Oh my God. Looking very worried and panic starting to form again on her face. And then it's Katie's turn, sister Katie. You're aiming correct? I'm aiming at the guy and I'm getting ready to loosen my dogs. After she gives me that news I say into the microphone. Silver Bell thinks that we do her pictures somehow. We're going to update to Jay letting him know what's going on. Now when Daniel's call comes across and says Silver Bell. Yes. We might be able to use that. Let him know that, you know, he's here looking for the girl. Well, if they did all their research they may know that Silver Bell's a... demeanant ever, a nickname for her. I'm just saying. He's going to have to research. He did say Silver Bell. Okay. That takes us back to Jay at the top of the next mission of order. Yeah, I'm waiting for a card to him. That was in my plan. You actually feel a bit stronger when you stood up. You're like his buckle a bit. But when the spirits passed over you, certainly that helped. You're in disposition. You were terrified for a second. Oh shit. After many spirits. And then they passed over. And it was like, you just felt like a strengthening your legs. And you feel as if you've got a bit of a second wind or maybe a second wind coming on. But you're not healed by any stretch of imagination. But you feel a bit less shaky than you did three seconds ago. Good drug, boss. Move. Now the only problem with the order that Jay just gave you to move is if you start moving towards the exits, you're going to be running up the backs of the spirits that just passed over you. Just making you aware of that fact. Yep. And I'm sending them on there. The side of them running and running can be wearing them towards. Run. Then I'm just going to start moving. I'm going to vocally tell him that this is really dumb idea. I don't want to be near those things. No one should want to be near those things. Good enough. Are you running, running it up false? Right. You're going to try to overtake them and catch up to... If anyone has any more information on the spirits, more information might make for a better role if I could. But yeah, I'm just going to fill out a week to her pictures. Week to her pictures. I got that. I don't have any of her pictures. They're just pictures? I'm just saying. Any more information? I'm going to be able to roll in there. Hey, Jeff, we just heard pictures. It has to be the picture of the person that she's inhabiting. But then why isn't she dead if they're inhabiting her? How do they inhabit someone without turning them to ash? You got to give me more information. AKA, roll again. You got to give me more information to roll again. That's all I have. I saw them. I recognized them. That's better than your other expert. Absolutely. Because I was just about to pull them into my body. I remember. He asked you what they were and you're like, "Yeah, I'm not answering." But he's dealing with a vampire. I know you are. I'm just saying. Do you have any willpower left? No. I ran out of that one when I had to... That's a damn shame. What's your composure? Yeah. Just keep that in mind. Oh, okay. I guess you are. I don't know where this is coming from. Edgard, much like Special Agent Chew Park, had difficulty leaving the zombies when he had his trailer flash back because he was just petrified by the very nature of... Well, the trailer. Really? Right. And when he'd gone through the trailers... That's not a trailer. That trailer. Did he ever turn that thing? Was a nightmare. Running up the back of three... Three. Now one. Three powerful time spirits. Incredibly powerful. Is what's really not appealing to you right now. So I was going to give you a bonus based on how much willpower you have left. Yeah. You have none. Which means you can't summon that light. Wow! I want to do it. So you're going basically on your composure, whether you can pull it together. Which means you have one dice. Yes. Yes. Go ahead. Yes. Think about what are photographs. Photographs are frozen moments in time. So maybe you should just take a picture of... I'll definitely try that idea. It's just right now I've got a paranoid right now. I don't know if it matters. It can't. It can't. Right. I don't know if it matters. But yeah, in the beginning, before this whole thing started, I gave an inspirational speech to all of you. Three resistance to mental or emotional attacks. But the same amount of attack. Unless it is. And I don't really know if it is. It's not an attack. Okay. I didn't think you were going there. I thought you were going somewhere else. But it's still a great thing. But it had been so many scenes. We actually a couple scenes back said it didn't apply anymore. Go punch that vampire and then you can make that noise. Take a picture of these floating things and show them their own picture. Do you know what? I'll try that sometimes. A mirror? That's what I say. Yes. Ooh, like mirrors. You sense the hesitation in him. Too much to move. Before he makes his role, just making sure that there's nothing anybody wants to do. Before he rolls his one dice. Why don't you try to command him with your voice? I command him with your voice. I command him with my voice. Move! We have to get back to the car. We have to get out of here. This is safety. The car. Don't over that way. Go. I don't think that would be out of skill. That would be persuasion. Definitely persuasion presents. And any success if you get adds to the dice he gets to roll. Move. Feel free to succeed. Why? Yes. My persuasion is one. My presence is three. So it's four dice? Yes, it's four. Okay, I'm gonna assume, even though Jay's maintained a pretty good calm here, that you're probably actually scared to shit. I am not scared to shit. You're probably thinking that's not a good idea. Well, back to the back. No, I was going there. There's three spirits. Everything's burning down. They're being attacked by, or at least engaging in a verbal battle with vampires. Seriously, let me describe my night to you. This is fucking calm. This is the calm part. This is the calm part of the night. The helicopter's gone. Right. All the enemies are like dead. I'm actually gonna try. There was like one of you more dice because you were really wanting to hit him. So you're actually arguing against what I'm trying to do. I think Jay is like, seriously, we need to get the fuck out of here. And so I was going to give you plus one because of the direness of the situation. Which I will still give even though you're arguing against it. That's worse than the helicopter. I'm just going to point that out. Yeah, not to me. Not yet. Until he gets hit by it, doesn't it? Well, maybe he's cool under fire. The more intense it gets, the more... It could be. Which means that he's able to summon his resolve and really... That's really sad. Zero success out of five. Single success out of five guys. Oh, bag it! Move! Maybe just shot him. Maybe just shot at his feet. That would motivate him. You're gonna have to carry him. Yeah, I might. Okay. Not single success. I got... Do it. If I just just don't roll and just decide to stay here, can I get a point for sloth? No, because it's advantageous for you not to move right now. Damn it. It's the truth. There you go. There's a fan here. It's only a six though. Oh, wow. Oh, it's a six. Okay, so your move action is nothing. No, I'm going to go with no and hell no. I'm going to turn around and look like... They turn things to dust. Yeah, so how do we stop them? I could be doing something moving. Tell me how to stop them. That you can do. Okay. If you would have rolled maybe a one, I might have taken away the chance to even do a... The four end yards have been down for seven weeks now, so I think it least deserves to have some actions here. All right. You want me to make another coral? I do. Tell me what your... With total? Plus a cult is six though. Okay, there's only so much you can know. Okay. But he's got to focus now. He's not going through all the occult knowledge. He's going only... Yeah, I'm going to go for spirited time period. And I'm like... I'm like by bad argument... I'm not going to focus on... If he had a... It's like, if he had a library... If I had time to do... Well, he's actually going in his head... But his head's much clearer now. Is it? No. I'm not even dead. Yeah. I'm in time spirits and pictures. I would... Okay. Think of it like this guy. If I'm being attacked by a shark, I'm thinking about everything I know about sharks and how to save my life. Right, but what do you think? I punch him in the nose. I gouge him in the eye. Damn, I wish I was wearing some shark repellent right now. Where do you go? We can get four bits of information. Okay. So like, you know, how many bits can you pull out of your ass at one given time? I'm going to find out. I got a high wits to the bottom. You have... What's your dice full place? Six dice. Six dice. I am going to be incredibly cruel and subtract two of those dice. Okay. Can I assist him? And anyway... I mean, I do have a comment. If you would have chosen... You just never said... Oh, it's not my turn. And you do an action too, to try to motivate him. I gave you a free action there, so I think two free actions is kind of a lot. Go. No problem. Okay. Thinking. I can do thinking. Uh... No. There's two successes. One's a ten. There's another nine. There you go. Three successes. Three more successes. All right. They like cherry soda with raspberries. I mean, what the fuck? I don't know why I have any more. I don't know why I have any more. That's all I got. Okay. So thinking on the fly, the first thing that you do realize is that the pictures... You remember hearing conversations that kind of galvanizes in your mind that there were drawings. There were photographs. There was a little picture frame in the corner that Daniel mentioned. There was like one of those electronic picture frames. They had pictures of her just constantly scanning through. So you are aware that the medium doesn't seem to be a major issue. They were all pictures of her. The second piece of information that I will give you is that the time spirits come in many different forms. The spirit can take on many different forms. Some spirits have the ability to go one spirit to have 50 different forms. You know, that's a power of theirs. Right. So the severed head is interesting in the sense of, well, hey, look, the little girls carrying around the severed head too. But you also know that the spirit sometimes can take what form they want. So your guess is that maybe they mimic what they thought would be most horrifying is your guess. I'm sorry. Did they all look like Casey Shea? They don't. They all look like a really old version of Casey Shea. The idea being the second point you make you get is that the severed heads that these time spirits are embodying right now is their form are probably just their guesses to what would be most terrifying to... So you shore the girls or whatever, right? It's not a Lincoln, per se, with the severed head that Gracie is carrying around right now. Okay. And third bit of information that I can provide for you is that you're fairly certain that just the sight of these bands, these pictures would probably be enough to dispel them. It's not something you have to have a circle with salt and a bunch of other really specific things. You remember reading about a case somewhere where someone had just flashed a personalized set of tarot cards that had been made up with some images of people they knew and one of the tarot cards was flashed and the spirit basically just dissolved. So it can be something that is not a highly ritualized band. It's a band that seemingly, if they see any facsimile from the actual person, seems to do. All right, then what I would choose to say over the mic is get a picture of her and show it to the spirits. Any picture, have a phone. Any way. I don't know how to use the camera part though. Oh, Jesus Christ. He doesn't like technology. Everyone has an iPhone. Do you have a jitterbug? Okay, Jay, it's your turn. I put both my hands on Edgard's back and I am literally pushing his scrawny Cajun ass towards the car. It is. The scrawny Cajun. He's got a strike up like mine is for, right? Watch the suit mine. The girl's got more. Seriously? Yeah, I know. I know she does. I think one of the dogs stench to him. Like for, I got more. He even loses his hands to a dog. Hey, those are killer dogs. Those are tough. Edgard, we are moving now. I place both my hands in your back and I am pushing you physically towards the car. How much do you weigh? I got a guess, not a lot, because he's not a really physical fan of God. I probably pick me up. Yes. So you show him the back, but you're going to have to run past him if you're going to run, because he's staying in place this turn. No, no, I'm pushing him. He's physically moving. Oh, he's moving. I'm just saying, if you want to move 30 or 40 feet, you're not going to be able to push him. I have your 40 feet. Double moving, probably actually a quarter, because I am moving with it. You're driving him along. Yes. Okay, that's what we'll go with. Go ahead and let's see. Athletic and strength. That's what we want it to be. No, I don't, because my strength isn't around that high. That's exactly what I'm going to have it be. It's two and athletic is three, so it's total five. Okay, we'll subtract one for his strength and one. I want to subtract it for every strength he has. Go ahead, if you succeed, you can do a normal move with Edgard. That's double normal. That's impressive, especially because I really don't have a move ago. Three successes. Damn. Yeah, then you definitely made it. And because he's pushing you and talking to you as you move him, we're not dead now. We're still moving. We're not dead now either. We're still moving things to just. At this point, you're probably running forward with the fire's blazing around you, sweat hanging heavy in the air. You're probably actually caught up to the spirits right at the end of your single move. We're not going through that. No, no, again, they're up high. Your friend Daniel's in trouble. You have more knowledge than he does. We are going to his rescue. I take out my... He heard me with his word. I don't know. You're under that look. They're behind us now. Now you'll run fast. But bring your dog to the vet. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Yeah, well. We're trying to give a dog a bath. This will get rid of the thing for temporarily, but what do we do? Oh, this is going to make a circle and drive them away forever. It's going to be about 15 minutes. I take a picture of the guys, just in case. Just in case. Just in case. They don't remember this. I would actually say that's natural instant action, so it's not a free action. So you'll have to do that another turn, please. Action. Because I'm not waiting next time. That you have almost caught up to that are hovering, moving, not hovering, but moving in the air. The keening moan picks up in intensity as they draw closer, because Daniel has stopped and is smoking his shotgun. And Grace is covering her face in horror. They then just going into a dive towards where Daniel and Grace are. Yeah, move. Get it faster. Okay, yeah. That's not your turn yet, though. I don't know. This is funny. The first creature screams down at you and is attacking you. Go ahead and make a composure plus resolve role, two actual attributes. So is this mental or emotional attack? Yes. Is he trying to read you in place? I have failed on every front. Wow, that's surprising. You roll six dice and you find yourself frozen in fear as it dives towards you. The other two are diving towards Gracie Silverbell. But, Anne, what can I possibly do? Truth, I'm really good at that. I almost got etheric rounds. You hear her say in her young voice, "You don't scare me. Go back to where you came from. Just go away." She starts screaming at the spirits in a goal. She succeeded. She's more of a man than you are. I've got six guys. They swirl around her, but they don't seem to affect her. You feel yourself go ice cold and the creature comes up with its massive jaws and goes to attack you. And because you are frozen, you lose your defense. So it gets good at that deal without that. Daniel's like, "I graced it. How do you use this phone? Should I phone? Do you know how to--?" Take a picture of yourself, play in. No successes. It attacks you seven, two, and a five. Just to be clear, because I don't want anyone to take me out of here. Nice. Yeah, nice. Don't worry. That is not merciful. And Daniel, it is your turn. All right, you guys are all together stupid. Yes, you do. I'm going to do the same thing. Same before, close your plus resolve. I'm using a willpower. Try to shake it off. You've got six dice. The chances are you'll fuck you. Well, that's-- Hey, you're not trying to-- There is a spirit from another realm which you have never seen before in your life with a detached jaw and horrible teeth and eyes right up on you trying to eat your very soul and fear is draining through your body. And all you can think about is your impending death and how you failed Casey minus three dice. Ooh. Good thing you wish both of you. Mm-hmm. Perhaps your seven head is looking at it. I guess your blood. If only Casey were here. Wash can is, isn't it? Yeah. One, two, three. Was this one or did I tip it? It doesn't matter. You were broken free. I wanted an exception. We've got to fuck you. The fear. Then I take off my phone. No. Have you run? Okay, yes. I'm run. No, I don't. That's a-- Run. I don't have a quick draw, so. Run for a phone. Run. Can you run and take out a phone or carry your phone? Fine. I can charge through these swirling spirits around Silver Bell. Gracie. Or Gracie. To be clear. Yeah, you're talking into a headset. You're fine. He can't outrun these things, right? I mean, he-- He's seen how fast they move. He saw how fast they approached originally. He thinks he can outrun them. He can outrun them. He'll be able to. He's pretty fast. I mean, it's a shot. But I don't know if he wants to turn his back. I mean, he's got to scoop up the girl. You know, there's a lot going on. He can't double move. This turn, if he wants to take Gracie with him. And that's when he put any distance between him and the spirits, which means double move. Right. So, in fair disclosure, you have no fucking idea. If you cannot run them or not, unless you're running yourself and want you to think, "Hey, I might be able to outrun these things myself." But I have to leave the girl behind. I don't. It's a free action. I don't know what that's called in this game. Because it ain't his connection. But I take out my phone, shove it in their hands, and I say, "Take a picture of yourself. Hurry." And I start running as fast as I can with her. With her. Yes. Grab her. Hand her the phone. So you hand her the iPhone for the general. And... There's a camera. He's got these big ones. He's got these big ones. It's a cell phone for all the commercials for it now. Okay, back to the game. Daniel, you go ahead and bake a dexterity. Plus... Athletics not to fumble your phone in your panic to hand her the phone. So dexterity is... Two. And athletics is two. Good luck. Your hands are sweaty with the hot, steaming knife at your end. It's 100 degree night. The oppressive heat. The fire from all those things. Yes. Give me any mitances because I'm going to use a willpower. Here we go. Now I have any laces. All right. Now... I'm not going to wrap this phone. I was just painting a picture with words. Phew. Seven dice and... Two. Four successes. Four. That was almost it. Oh, she goes and grabs onto it. Thank God. And then you pick her up by the waist. Put her back in her fireman's carry position and start running at your top speed you can, which is a normal group action. Two. Back to you. Lizard fangs. This is not the good one. Hey, don't want to know if it's a mat butter. What? Don't want to know. No. If I can just jump in here. The vampire... I don't see that mister thing. We have our radios on. So we hear the keening of these spirits as they're attacking you right here. Oh, Jesus. Okay. Frightening it's out. And I'm assuming that vampires have more acute senses. So maybe we could try to use that. So hey, listen for yourself. You hear that rat going on over there? Up by the farmhouse? I just want to get to the band. I just want to put the bank. So I just want to get to the strike. You have a silver stake. He has silver bullets and hers is blessed and you're trying to drive the vampire towards me and Daniel. No, I'm trying to... I'm trying to... I'm trying to argue back. Yeah. I want to... Okay. Go over there, vampire. I'm going to put the argument if it means so when you go into the boss. No, it's not about drawing a letter to the boss. It's about to feed this vampire. Thanks for listening to Nights of the Night at Actual Play Podcast.
