Actual Play Starts :7:32

[Intro Music] Hello and welcome to Night to the Night actual play podcast. This world of darkness stories chagrin was written and run by your storyteller Scott. And now, please enjoy episode 131, titled Too Little, Too Late. Actual play begins seven minutes, 32 seconds. Alright, this week we actually do have a little bit of feedback before we get into the game. There's only two bits of feedback, both from Facebook, although there are a number of people that are adding questions for the upcoming wrap-up for chagrin. I suppose we should tell people they could also, for those listeners who aren't, isn't Facebook or aren't, haven't fronted us. If they listen, if they get their information from the White Wolf site, they can post questions there as well. Sure. Wherever. Yeah. And any other location. KOTNpodcast.com. The first bit of feedback from Facebook was from Theron. And he said, Scott, are you addicted to flashbacks? We should tell that to your group and ask them for support. So I don't have a problem with flashbacks. They worked really well. Yeah. There were a lot of them, obviously, in the story. But we have a lot of players. Well, I have to admit, even I was a little surprised with the sudden last minute flashback I thought we were. Okay. We're in the end. We're in the end. We're in the end. We're in the end. We're in the end. We're in the end. We're in the end. We're in the end. We're in the end. We're in the end. We're in the end. Oh, we're in the end. That's why I remembered it, because here at Lake, we're going to do Michael Clay if you have anything to say about him. I don't want to say it after what you've done to chew. I thought you might like, I had threatened at the beginning, like in a positive way, like you'll get a flashback. But this wasn't meant for your character this time. But you will get eventually a lot of interest coming up. I can just see, we'll say that. No, she won't even be a zombie or anything. So either a victim that will die and I'll have to see her and she'll kill me and betray me. He's a backlash back then. He doesn't mind if I... I just want to say that he is one of the most positive followers ever. I don't know what that one was. That was Jason. Drink Jason, by the way. Scott considers any criticism of his talent as a wine, yes. I was a blatant wine. We'll have to ask Jason to go back and listen to it. We'll have to go back and listen to it. And so you'll insult me on top of that. I'm saying legit, I really have to go back and listen to it. I didn't think he wanted. But then it's a callback that you're putting a button on it then moving on. I think you need to go back and listen. I know the jab. I wasn't doing it. I was saying I wasn't doing all this. It's not wine. Self-deprecating. It's not wine. Well, I thought you had to have the voice with the wine to qualify. I didn't even know that wine. I don't know why he didn't stop it. Okay, there are other bit of feedback from Joshua Rosco. Who says, "Wow, that escalated quickly. I'm not sure if I should be appreciative or resent you." Since I caught up with your podcast, I've had to begin listening to other actual plays that I subscribed to. And I have found many now lacking and have deleted several from my feed. Your group dynamic is excellent. And the story is interesting and the editing makes it flow so well. Well done, gentlemen. Well done. I will be moving into the New World of Darkness campaign upon completing the section we are currently in. And I have some catching up to do on the role changes. But since I'm the only one who's played the old World of Darkness, it shouldn't be a big deal. Thank you for your concern about the World of Darkness and my other church members. But I remember well how dark the World of Darkness can get. And I work for the church and the crowd, he says, laughs. I am the Director of Children's and Outreach Ministries. Finding the light in the darkness is my job. Thanks again and keep it up. My sole disappointment in KOTN is you only have one episode a week. So, thank you, Joshua. Yeah, thanks for the kind work. This job is literally Children's and Imperial. It is. It is. And saving them. Hopefully a little bit like that. Well, there is World of Darkness Innocence, which is a game strictly tailored to playing children. In peril. I think we'll be playing that as a one-shot. That'll work right into our group. Michael, I love that. I never want to play little fears, either. That's scary. I read about that. I like the idea, but I'm not sure. It's the same thing where you're a child with your child and nobody believes you. Well, demons manifest as abusive parents. Or something that is really an influence. It's about... If I'm not mistaken, that game has you as a child, that if you grow up, these things disappear. No one believes you. Don't don't believe you because they can't see it. And that you as a child, you have a certain amount of belief. And once you expend that, you're grown up now and you can't see it anymore. You're given them power almost without your belief. I think symbolism right there. I've heard things about the game as well. I guess you can base a game on virtually anything. Yes, you can. Almost definitely. I don't know if you... The most unlikely subject. Oh, yeah. There's one that's called "Dogs in the Vineyard". Yeah. Going out. If someone bet the designer, you can't make a game about Mormons. I'm not kidding. That shouldn't even bet. And he said, "Oh, yes, I can." And so he designed it. I would be talking for... That game is often referenced. It's a slight fluence in a lot of the new gaming systems. Yeah. It's definitely a very... We played it once. Yeah, we played it once. It was truly a one-off one of the many "Dogs in the Vineyard". Okay. That's fine. Quick one down. What happened? Oh, the quick rundown is you're actually rolling a bunch of dice in it. So a lot of different types and sizes. And you're making a poker hand out of it to get your way against your opponent. Mm-hmm. So it's a very interesting... Interesting game mechanics. I guess I don't see where Mormons fit in. Oh, because it's in the Wild West and you are a dog of God. You're a watch dog. And you are going into town. And any problems that they have, they bring it to you. And it is your job. You've been trained to handle it. And it could be like something is simply shooting a guy in the head. Okay. Yeah. You're wrong. It's just accepted because you are the law and you are... You kind of sent out from the church, right? Yes. You're sent out. You are trained by the church and then sent out the church. And sent out the church. And sent out the vineyards to patrol and protect the flock. But you are the judge, jury, executioner all in one. When you say something, it's law because you've been trained to understand. You know what the law is. You know the law. You know the book. You know the word. Anyways, a bit of a strain there. I'm sorry. No, no problem. And that's the end of the feedback. Visit our site. Visit us on Facebook. Please leave questions for our wrap up. We'll get to feedback@co.com anywhere. It's at the end of this episode. You'll hear all the places you can send us. So with that, we'll let you go on to the adventure. Enjoy. This is chapter 19 of the World of Darkness story. Shagrin. I'm your storyteller, Scott. And on my left is... Jim playing sister Katie O'Connor. None. Driver. And part of the Malius Melpachurm. Bob playing FBI Special Agent Chew Park. Member of the Vascular Conspiracy. Tom playing Jay Alton. Leader of Task Force Siren. And member of the Ascending Ones. Mike playing Michael Clay. The adventurer academic. Part of the H's Kaidoru. Thomas playing Edgar Montes. If a dude and practitioner and a member of the lay misteris conspiracy. John playing Daniel Morgan. Mountain Man. Turn mercenary. And ex-member of Task Force Falcon. Alright, stepping back in time. We left off in a flashback. Which was Jay's sister, Claire. Texting you. And you ended up in a very bad part of East Cleveland. At what looked to be some sort of drug house. Protected by some thugs and some gangbangers. You pretty much forced your way in. Scared off most of the hired help. So that's why it's helped. And I mean Daniel. Found yourself on the fifth floor. Barreling down the hallway towards the place you believe. Claire's phone was dropped out of the window from. Also we had a. Before the flashback we had a bit of real time action. Where Chew and Katie and Michael started a verbal conversation and verbal duel with the leader of Task Force Falconry. The strike unit where he was asking for the girl. Believing that the girl that you had in your possession was the girl that he came here to find. So we'll pick back up in the flashback. Which has unfortunately sister Katie still at. The library at St. Patrick's Cathedral in Ohio City. The rest of you over on East 85th Street. Deep in East Cleveland in the rundown apartment building. Jay as you move down the hallway. There's all sorts of discarded debris. Old rusted baby carriage that's missing two wheels. There's trash on the floor. There's bags of what looked to be garbage. Just strewn about. So you're picking your way. Leading I would imagine the group through the hallway. And when you get or when you start getting towards the end of the hall. There's a door on either side. Door to the right. Door to the left. They're closed. Both of them. And that's the decision you have to make as you're maybe 15, 20 feet out. You're deciding which door you're going to go to. How are you going to handle it basically? Well there's an alley behind the building where the phone was thrown out of. I assume that's the one on the right. That is correct. Then I would be going to door on the right. And who's with me? There's Daniel myself. I think everybody actually came into the building. If I'm not mistaken after he would scare off the gang bangers in the street. I was trained to catch up to Edgar. Yeah you had gone around not mistaken. Right. Well Edgar you saw them move into the building. Were you going to follow suit? Oh yeah. What happened? I'm following him. Hold on. Everyone. Edgar caught up in the car. Yes, Edgar. Oh that's right. Everyone's got together. I'll be stroking. Stroking. Stroking. When he was picking a lot. I went back and closed the car doors. Light the car. All right. It's good for caution. All right. All right Jay. So you finish going down the hallway. Are you double moving? Are you handling? It's about 20 feet away to the door on the right hand side of the hallway. Well B at this point I think is 11. So that would be yards. It would be 33 feet. So you can get to the door with just a normal move. And then at that point it's up to you. It's up to you. How do you want to handle it? I indicate to chew with signals not parking. Keep his eyes on the door behind us. The one that's to the left. I have Daniel with me next to me. And the rest fall in line. Right. Weapons not drawn. I just reach the door and open it. I know there's a guy who's up here and has gone ahead. Right. But I still haven't drawn a gun. I'm still having shot. I'm trying to keep the situation calm rather than crazy. You reach the door to open it and it is locked. I look towards my face. He's falling off. But at that point I'd like you to make a perception check please. And just Jay. I look towards Montay. Just Jay because he got to the door first. Signal the door with an out of head. Perception at five. Yes and well there's the football of your team coming down the hallway pushing aside garbage and whatnot. So we'll give up minus one even though it's a very quiet apartment building right now. Okay. We weren't being specially doubtful in any way. One. Success. All right. You hear what sounds to be like your sister whimpering through the door. I nod to Montay's towards the door. Okay. So you get to the door. Montay's. Yeah. And are you pulling out your lock pick set or are you? Lock pick shot. All right. I mean I can't see exactly where the two are listening down. Right. Fair enough. The door would kick his ass. Right. Go ahead and put together your dice pull out. You know if there's any minuses. Fat dexterity, looseness for lock bonus for ten and the tools there's a lot of them. This is the most competent. It's a little bit easiest lock I've ever seen before in your life. So with the possible exception of you being a bit jittery because of the situation. Meaning you can very much envision as you're kneeling down someone with a large gun pointing it through the door. Looking for someone trying to pick the lock and just kind of just opening up. So it certainly catches you a little bit kind of plays in your mind a little bit I guess which is what I want to say. So minus one die just do the nerves. Let the rest. You're fine. Two successes. Three successes. All lines. Three nights. All right. The door gives you no issues whatsoever. Okay. Let's have the door really quick to see if I... You're in it. While he's doing his lock picking, an extra person can be at the door. If you want to make it chew, that's fine. Don't say when he has anything else they want to do. I have a larceny scope. Can I help him in any way or is it already too late? It's well. Okay. That's fine. Based on the challenge of a lot you know that you could do it in your sleep. Okay. At your level and you know he's very good at it. I don't intend to have anybody standing in the door frame as the door is opened just in case they are on the other side. More trigger happy than I am. Right. So I want everybody to the sides. If she wants to be on the first one through the door. I didn't say that. Then he can be close to the door. Otherwise I'm taking one side and... No, I just wanted to see if I could pick anything up while he was picking a lot. Your many voices are doing that. Sure. Give it a try. Yeah I'm going to do that. Just stick my ears off. Of course your supposed to be watching the door behind is just in case. I can do that. I can do both. I can do both, multitask. Go ahead and give me a perception check. It wouldn't be the investigation. It would be with plus composure. Which is the standard perception check. Okay. What do you got? Growing seven dice. Three successes. Okay. I was going to give you a minus one just for a little bit of ambient noise. But it's not a thing to yell because you would have easily succeeded anyways with seven dice. With three successes you pick up the same wimp ring that he hears. So you would just a girl, you know, recognize her sobs. But there's definitely someone in distress. And you could hear what sounds like some footfalls across carpet and sometimes it aren't hardwood. It sounds like as well. So there's some movement, some creaking back and forth. Like someone's walking around on. Does it sound like multiple people? Can I discern that with my three successes? Yeah. To you it sounds like there's two distinct people walking. And both of them are not who you're imagining to be a 90 pound 18 year old girl. You know, the footfalls are heavier. Okay. They have a certain sound to them. It's not bare feet. It's not heels. It's not tennis shoes. Okay. Both of them sound more like they're boots or one might be a pair of like a dress shoes. Like a guy's dress shoes as opposed to like a woman's high heels or something like that. Especially with the weight being put down. It definitely is. Yeah. You can definitely tie it. Whisper this information to Jay. Okay. Cover up the mic and whisper to Jay. Gotcha. Probably black. Shoes. Laser sound. Hold on. He's good. Are they a talent? Yeah. How long? Large to me is an extended role based on the difficulty of the lock. This one I assume would be something like two or three. Yes. If you throw all the necessary success in the first turn and all the takes one turn. But every turn afterwards. Yeah. Just three seconds for everyone. Oh. Just every three seconds. Excellent. That was quick. He just kneels down. You hear a distinct click which you all kind of grimace a bit at because you realize it. If you heard the click. Yeah. They probably heard the click but there was nothing. It's just an older door and there was nothing to do about the fact that it's just one of those little buttons that pop out and nothing to do about it. So there's a resounding click and then you look up at Jay. Jay is probably motioning you to get up. Good. Absolutely motioning him to move to the side. Go ahead and make a dexterity plus athletics role. Six. Six dice. You took a little bit of time to look at Jay to get your instructions. So minus two dice. Don't be shouting. No. Absolutely nothing. One, three, five. Okay. So the vision of someone firing at you becomes palpable. You just look at Jay and he's like, and you're like, oh shit. And you remember the click. And you basically stumble and fall forward on your face away from the door. But you just try to get it gracefully and move quickly but you stumbled and fell. And you made some more noise. So if they weren't aware with the resounding click, the huge thump that occurred or company, you're tripping, trying to get out of the doorway in potential danger. He's our stealth guy. Yes. Hey, whoa. If I was rolling stealth, I would be rolling like 90 seconds. He wasn't moving stealthfully. He was moving panically because he could vision the gun coming right down at the door. I can stealth. Boom. This is not stealth. I'm not an acrobat. I was impressed with that. He kneeled down and the door went click like three seconds. Literally less than three seconds after he knelt down. The door was open. So, you know. It was easier than he thought. Let's give him some props. Yeah. Then he looked at Jay. Like, what do I do? And Jay's like, get out of the way, get out of the way, get out of the way. So you're staring at a door that is unlocked. Right. I want no one standing in front of it. I just reach across, open it. Push it open. But I'm staying to the side of the door. Okay. The door pushes open. It opens into an apartment. It's a weak light filters out into the hallway. For the first time, probably because you've been so hyped up and so focused on getting to your sister. The smell of this apartment building hits you. I mean, it's like rotting garbage in the hallway. The stale sweat. The smell of people have been in an apartment for a while and it's been hot and there's not air conditioning. Yeah. It just kind of wakes out from the hall. It's just a very suss-nasty setting, exactly. It's a cesspool of inequity. It's a meastity. And that's all you see is some white coming in and then maybe a second or two later you hear Jay come in Jay. What are you skulking around up there for? There's no need to do that. You're always invited to come in to find down the side. I step into the room. Funny, but that's not what your dormers said. Luckily, I was able to convince them otherwise. You know how the paid help is. Never can make decisions for themselves. And as you walk into the room, you see a very run-down-looking apartment. Off to your left as you walk through the door is what would be considered a living area, a living room. There's just a disgustingly stained couch against the wall and your sister is cowering on the couch. She has her hands drawn up towards her face. She's crying and whimpering. She is in her undergarments. So she is disrobed. But she has on a bra and panties. But they look dishelled to your quick look and you probably instinctively look away because it's your sister and that's what you do. And you see the reverend standing in front of the couch. It is a very large black man. He's impeccably dressed. He's wearing a pinstripe suit. Again, Italian mover sent to you. You are good. I don't say forget about it when he's walking. Exactly. Italian lovers, he has a ball head, strikes a menacing figure. And in the background behind him is the doorman. Who knew you but you obviously didn't. And he's kind of standing in the background looking sheepish. And probably wishing he was anywhere else. But right here, right, this woman, he just picked that up from his continents. That he's just not wanting to be here right now. He looks like he's failed and he's going to get reprimanded. He just does not look like he's pleased at this moment at all. And not angry but more, again, sheepish or embarrassed or looking down at his shoes because he's just been reprimanded by the schoolmaster or whatever. He's just got a very neat look about him at this point for such a very large man. We're going to keep it in a role-playing sense for right this second. And then we'll move to initiative if that needs to happen. Does Reverend have a name other than Reverend? I mean, do we just call him? Everyone calls him the Reverend. Reverend, do we not have enough struggles against the darkness that we're going to start infighting? Is that the intent? I thought, Jay, that you were on a secret mission or accomplishing something good for the rest of humanity. I thought you dropped your ways of the path that had put in with some other types. And he looks around to people understanding next to you in the room. These other types fight the same war that I do and I thought you did. And I know for a fact, my sister isn't involved in this war. Could you please explain what she's doing here and why she has been mostly disrobed? Well, you know young girls, Jay. I know my sister. Well, let it be said that I know way went looking for your sister or anyone else. So that you would have no problem with allowing her to leave with me. Now, well, I don't think that's the best idea. She came looking for me, Jay. I didn't go looking for her. Apparently, you've been absent lately. And she's not too happy with the way the neighborhoods fallen on hard times. So she decided she wanted to pick up the cause, wanted to join the gang, wanted to fight fire with fire. So she approached me, asked if she could follow in your footsteps, become one of us. What was I to do? Apparently, she had to change her heart. Otherwise, I wouldn't have gotten a message asking me for help. That's nothing but the potions talking. All that aside, I still don't see a reason that she can't leave with me. Well, having just recently been indoctrinated into our cause would not be safe for her to leave without the medicinal fallbacks I have in case something goes awry. We don't want to risk her life now, do we? No. I look over at Claire. She has, in the interim, found a moth-eaten blanket that was on the ground that is heavily stained. And just pull it up around herself and she refuses to make eye contact with you. To your eyes, really doesn't seem herself. Claire is usually a half, I mean, she's an 18-year-old teenager. So here in high school, she was always quick to laugh. She'd been obviously struggling with some stuff that was going down in the neighborhood recently, which is why she has been contacting and saying, "Where are you? We need help." She definitely has been a little less happy lately. But in no way does this strike you as a way your sister would act. But you know how you acted when you took your first dose. And you go glistenated and blacked out and screamed and ranted and raved and tore up the room and punched your soldiers, your comrades in fate. It's a very trying initiation. Now you don't know if she went through this initiation that you did or what she went through, but part of you saying, "Well, that makes sense. She's under the influence of something." And the other part of you is like, "That's my sister, man." Again, you can see how it might be struggling with this, Reverend. For instance, why was her phone thrown out the window? Well, Jay, I thought it best you not be disturbed in your secret mission. I thought, if she contacted you and you came, look, now you're here, people are bleeding, people are questioning, people are... People are questioning, which is something that of course you feel important to disrobe my sister as part of the initiative. Funny, it wasn't part of my initiative, by the way. Well, what a shame. What's that? I mean, different factions, different initiation rituals, Jay. It's very common in our jacket crescent for there to be a finding of the leader with the initiate, which probably explains why your faction is so small. Ooh, small double T. He chuckles, talk to get a read-on unless you want to try to make an empathy roll, but he chuckles. I don't need to. Well, as you can see, she's in good hands. Your mission probably needs to return to whatever it was. It was doing, I'm sure, very important stuff. And we'll continue to make sure that she is well cared for this evening and makes it through the initiation alive. I think I'd rather handle that part of the evening myself. Jay, have you ever brought someone into the Brotherhood? Can't say that I have, and I'm not sure I want my sister in the Brotherhood. Well, a little late for that now, isn't it? Oh, I don't know. She's drunk. She's consummated her inclusion in our Brotherhood. If she were to take her and she were to leave now, Jay, no telling if she would see the morning light? No, instead she would see my branch and my leaders. By the way, don't include rape as part of their process of bringing someone into the light. Now, Jay, rape, that's a strong term. I think it's an appropriate one. Rape is usually try to prevent the people from communicating with anybody throwing away their way of asking for help. Still have a big problem with the phone tossed out the window, Reverend, big problem. Well, again, you are on a mission. Do you want to be disturbed by something that... So, instead of taking the phone and keeping it safely, you throw it violently out the window. Well, she was told that phone calls were not allowed during initiation, so I was, I admit, a bit perturbed by her lack of... And lost control of your emotions, so I'm supposed to trust you with the rest of the evening like that state I don't think so falls no longer an issue. But my sister still is. I start walking towards the couch. Jay, can you value your position in the brotherhood? Because I'd hate to have to make a call to your faction later and say that you were interrupting one of our initiation rituals. It would probably cause you to be disbarred. So, my options are to be disbarred or watch my sister being befloured by a monster, sorry, and keep walking towards the couch. It's past tense. It's done. She's crossed the threshold she's done for the night. Then I'll take her home since she's done. Probably by way of the hospital, but that's another issue. And as you see fit, Jay, I'm not going to fight with you. But if she doesn't make it through the night, you'll only be able to look in the mirror to know the cause of her demise. It's not something. Okay. All right, look to Jay. You want to deal with him? No, please. Take this. Apparently not going to stop us. I can take her to the car when we get there. Yeah, I get on my phone and start calling my faction and I want to find someone who can help me walk her through this in the best possible way. All right, right off the bat at this moment, it's waiting the night as you recall. You get voicemail of your leader who needs to have him determined yet. Right. We'll determine who that is in the Cleveland area. You get a voicemail, you'll leave a quick message. You know, this is Jay and you talk. Call me on my cell because you got two phones. You got your regular phone. You've got the government approved phone. I have Daniel Carrier out to the car. As Daniel walks towards her, the reverend, who again is a very large individual. He takes a step back and nods to you as if he's giving you permission to take her. You gather her up into your arms. She's crying, but she seems lucid enough to understand who you are, meaning Jay. You haven't looked at her that much during this whole process. But one of your team members saw her look up and there was a recognition in her eyes when she saw you. So she doesn't fight you, Daniel, when you pick her up. And she is, and he's like looking at a feather pillow for you. I mean, you're a huge guy and she's, you know, a 90-pound, 18-year-old girl. So just, you can easily pick her up and carry her with the blanket. But when you do that, she looks up at you and says, "My purse. I need my purse." She'll find the purse. What do I look like to you? It should be your investigation, Daniel. Yeah. So I get to carry the purse. You get to find her too. Is it an evident where the purse is? No. To find it. Where's her purse? I look at the reverend, where is her belongings? Did you throw all of them out the window? Oh, dear. No. Answer the question. There was a moment during her hallucinations when she was being very violent and she locked herself into the bathroom. So perhaps her purse is in there? I'll go check. You go to the bathroom, which is, again, disgusting beyond measure. And you do see a purse on the ground and you see stuff strewn all over the floor as if she was searching frantically perhaps in her purse or something or somebody was searching frantically for something in her purse? There definitely is stuff all over the bathroom floor, which is really unfortunate because some of the stuff rolled behind a toilet. And some other really disgusting dollies. Exactly. It's grimy and disgusting. So the shower curtain is molded and it's absolutely not the place you would ever want to be crawling around and handing knees. Toilet is backed up. It's disgusting. So you're more than welcome to crawl around and get out of the stuff if you wish. This is horror on all levels. I probably would have filed Jay back there. Just to make sure. Yeah. Just to make sure there wasn't an ambush. Edgard in Michael Clay for your part as well. The reverend and the large bouncer who was at the door, dormers, we called him, are just talking in hushed hums to each other. There's still in the room though, right? There's still in the room. They backed off the couch a bit so that Daniel could pick her up. They've actually started to walk across to what would be like a kitchenette on the other side. So it would have been to the right as you walked in the door as opposed to the left which is where the couch was in the bathroom. So if Jay and Chew are in the bathroom. And Daniel's kind of waiting on the door with Scott Clair. So do we need to keep these guys in one place? Or do we need to let you know? Just so you know, it wasn't one thing we were being surreptitious. They just calmly walked on the other side of the kitchenette area and started talking to each other and they looked like they were just having a conversation. It's not like super suspicious. I'm still standing in the doorway. I'm assuming Edgar you're also in the doorway. And we're also listening. Are there any sounds of anyone coming upstairs in the hallway? No, you know, it doesn't seem like you're waiting for it to happen, right? I mean, there's got to be a trap here. The door across has got to burst up with five dang bangers. Nothing so far. Sorry. No noise, no traffic. Thinking back at my initiation, was it injected? Was it digested? What form did it take? Yours was injected. And I'm looking for something that they gave her. If I can find what they gave her, it would help it. I would like you to make a perception check while you're in the bathroom. You've got one bulb that's blinking on and off. It's a very tough situation to find things in. In the sense of there's a lot of nooks and holes. My perception is five. Do you have this important? Is your investigation skill higher than your composure skill? My chew might get the soldier behind me. Yeah. Yes, but just the middle question. Do you have? Yes, my investigation I do have and it is two. And your composure and my composure is three. You have held your composure pretty well. That's a great job of role-point. What's he a child? Thank you. Composure four. What's the composure for? It's a perception check, it's what's a plus composure. But you can use investigation if the situation shows for it. My wife is new. So usually it's plus composure. Right. You start looking. Go ahead. I give Jay a pair of latex gloves that I always carry. No doubt. Is there any minus? Can you find a flashlight? A flashlight. Yeah, definitely. A minus one for the lighting conditions. Any equipment bought? Yeah. For the flashlight, I would say I'm going to give it a plus one. So you're back to snuff. And then because there's holes in cabinets, boards are ripped out in some places. There's a lot of crannies kind of thing. I'm going to give you a minus one die for that. So a total of minus one. Minus two for the conditions plus one for the equipment. I can take you to say you picked that up and picked that up. I'm not sure what that is. Two. Okay. I'm going to also search so we can just get the hell out of here. Okay. So there's lipstick and there's just girl stuff. And so there's that. And then there were two vials that looked pretty unique to you. It's not a formula that you recognize. The color is the same between both. It's a very deep, deep magenta. And you've never seen a color potion like that before or salve. Whatever it's like being. We're not talking huge test tube things. You're talking little vials. Almost like a sample column. But sometimes at the store, you're like that big. Wow. It's very small. Very easy to miss but thanks to your diligence and choose flashlight. You're able to find those two little things and make you wonder a little bit. You know what? Why would she have these on her? Yeah. So anyways. Just a little bit different. You wouldn't expect her to have potions. I mean he either injected her or gave her some type of salve or potion to drink or elixir. But why does she have to? Especially something you've never seen before. Right. Then switching gears real quick to give it one quick, a quick one silver. You go ahead and get your dice pool together. I'm going to subtract two from you as well. Whatever your dice pool ends up at, you go ahead and make your roll. I'm rolling six dice. Okay. Two successes in a ton again and three successes. All right. There is yet another dark magenta vial that was hidden right where the molding of the base board had been eaten away by termites or whatever. And it kind of slid back behind the wall a bit. But you clocked a glint of the glass of the vial and flash a light. We're able to find, see if we'll find a third one. Please. Do you have his word that she locked herself in here? This could be where they give people the dose and then check it over their shoulder. Yeah. But these vials are all filled. Filled. Filled. It's a glass vial. Is it like one of those vials that have the rubber top on it? You get sick the needle through and pull the medicine out of it. Not quite like that. Again, it's very reminiscent of those little silly samples you get at the store. Sometimes you give it a walk alone. It's got a little plastic top on it. It's got a glass vial or vial. And I feel. Emptial. Nice. Nice. I didn't know there was three words that could describe a small little glass too. I'm not seeing any empty ones though. No. No needle. No. No. No needle. A bunch of girls shit that spilled out on the floor and three glass vials of. A very, very dark magenta. The reverend did say that she drank the potion. Maybe she would. She already drank the potion. That's what he said. Maybe she was on something that caused her to react in the way they didn't think she would react because she was already on something and then she took those stuff. I'm actually thinking that since she was fighting against the neighbors and bad stuff that's going around here, she got some potions that were theirs and they wanted it back. That she is not being inducted. Isn't that an assumption though? We're kind of taking it. I absolutely am, but I'm not going to walk in the other room and shoot the guy because of it. I'm saying something's going on here that I'm not liking. Bert? I don't have all the facts yet. But. It's not like it if it were true anyway. No. The two options that are here. Well, what is much worse? Which is they took her by force. They raped her. Trying to get to what we just found. The other one that she got indoctrinated into their particular faction, I'm not really fond of that either. But at least she then. Made the choice. Then you got to hide these when you're walking out. Possibly they just know. I intend to. Okay. I'm good. Is there anything else inside her purse that would stand out in any vials and secret compartments or whatever? No. Again, it's pretty. Well, it's not difficult. You can spend the time absolutely tearing apart her purse if you want to. But right now all you've done is basically. Well, all around the ground. Found the little amphibor or whatever in a corner. That was missed. Recall everything tonight. Mm-hmm. And then it picked up the tube and went ahead and hid them. And I want to make this quick because Daniel's leaving and I want to make sure that he has backup to get her to the car. So. Well, two of us can go with Daniel and you and Chew are still there. Right. But we're just in there getting her stuff and we're gone. Right. And as we walk back through the main room, I talk to the reverend. Feel free to make your call. And I'll tell you one thing. If I find out your story does not ring true. And that there's something else going on here. You will meet again. And at that time, I will not be restrained. It's always a pleasure, Chewie. We'll be next time. Dominique, Dominique, Patrick, and you leave? Not for Muslims. We leave. You are not exhausted on the way through the vehicle. Claire is hallucinating a bit. She's definitely, when you're holding her to you. Daniel, you can feel that she is almost like a child who has a fever. Cold swatch. Like feverish. She's got, she's, there's cold swatch, but her forehead is like on fire. When it leaves up against your arm because it's hot. Like I said, the summer has been unprecedented in how hot it's been. So you're not dressed up in body armor. When her shoulder or patch of bear skin hits your skin, it's like, wow. And yet she's just, she's like sweating and it almost feels cool to the touch. It's just a very strange combination. So she's on some limited medical training. Can I do like an assessment just to see? I mean, I think we should take her to a lower water and you can do that. Right in the cover. Right. Yes, you can do. I don't think urgent care is going to be able to help her. I know I have at least one house I go to to meet my contact. And that's where we're heading until I hear from someone else. Ask her about the vials. Yes, I intended to talk to her. In the meanwhile, try to get some kind of answers from her. Daniel. Then I'm watching our backs as we're all to say the stairs. Katie's not here, so somebody's driving. Right. I'm assuming there's three rows to your SUV. Right. Choose the better driver. Choose driving. Daniel's with the video game. Front passenger seats. Michael and Edgar can be in the middle and then in the back seat it can be you tending to your sister. The third row. Right. Or is that our middle row if you prefer. That's fine. I thought Daniel still was there. But I don't know. I think Daniel and Jay getting in the back seat makes more sense than we're. Right. Because that's where we're at. It's a third row. I don't have any driving skills. I mean on catch while with a girl who's, he's really carrying her and he's going to want to be closer. I'm just saying it's tough in a third row SUV to fit three children, a little alone. So if he would throw her in the third row and then goes into the second row and I'll step in the back with it. That's fine. I just didn't know if she suddenly wanted him to be near because she's soliciting him. No. It seemed to me. No. She's talking nonsense. But there's moments of lucidity. Right. I had time to get information from her during those moments on what happened and what's going on and what she's taking and how can I help her and what really happened. Do I have to go kill the Reverend now? Right. Do you want me to? The moments of lucidity are few and far between for her right now. My main focus is what did you take? What happened? Right. Go ahead and make a, keeping your composure is probably pretty important because you can't really manipulate her. She's too far gone. Right. But if you mirror somebody sometimes that's important. Yeah. Keeping your composure is probably a good one. Empathy is probably as close as we're going to get to something that works. So let's go with that combination. Yeah. For me, five. When I first get into the backseat, I toss my phone that I made that call to Daniel because he's in the next row. Right. He's going to do the exercises as well. Keep calling that number. Tell him that you're a friend of Jay's and it's emergency. We have to get hold of somebody. Michael, are you driving? No. No. You were driving it because you choose what they said. Oh, I don't want to be driving. You know what I'm going to do? Yeah, I'm going to drive. I'm the best driver. Do you have your United States drivers last night? He's not a number. Come on. He's the son. You're my today. You know that guy. You can cook me. That's true. Yes. He's driving in New Orleans. You said don't make me drive when you check her stance forward. We might be in there. Danger, right? You're trying to get something out of her. What is your composure plus empathy? Five. There's nothing you can do when she is ranting. It's just impossible, right? But when she comes back for a second, I'd say maybe she comes back for ten seconds in the first five minutes you're in the backseat with her, okay? So it's a very limited period of time. When she comes back, that's when you can make your role to try to get something out of her. Like whatever. So go ahead and I'm going to say in those moments of lucidity, she's not perfect. So minus two dice due to the heavy influence of the, for lack of a better award, the intoxication, she's under it right now and the delusions, the hallucinations, et cetera. So go ahead and make your own. Five minutes into the drive, she comes to for a few seconds, blinks her eyes and says, "Jay." I might have spent will on this and I didn't get a chance to before you hit me with the minus two. But I think I'm fine with that because to me it's not, she's not really going to get me anything that's important. She's not going to know what drug it is she might have. What she says, she's not going to know. Right, she might not, so I don't have a problem with that. What she was probably telling you from the next seat. Just understand that anything she says, take it with a grain of salt because... Alright, so I have three dice. And two successes. I'm nine. Three. Nine, ten, eight. Oh, I know zero. Go ahead and ask two questions and I will give you a clear answer. But not a clear answer, but a clear answer. Oh, boom. Yeah, I don't normally dig into the pun, you know, routine here, but we should close that. So in the five minutes leading up to this, is she doing anything that might provide us with additional information that would help focus the questions? I was going to concentrate more on the bio since you were concentrating more on clarity. Sure. We have three. Here's one. I'm going to tap into some of my psychic abilities and use a skill called psychometry. It just kind of gives me information about the item that I'm holding in my hand. It just lets me know more about it. I think that's the first thing, yeah. So pretty much this skill states by holding an object in his hand, an agent can understand both its form and function. It's going to be clear. That's cool shit. Well, would it be fair to say then that he would be able to detect whether this bio was actually used through an initiation event? It's full. Yeah. But if it's an intended purpose or its function or its form, is that this is or is it something that isn't so therefore the weapon was lying or that there's something else going on here? I don't know what else is going on here. Why don't we do that? I think you should have a potion and you can tell its function. It's not that you drink it. No, you slip it a little bit. Then you get to find out. Yeah. Oh, man. Why are you making it worse for him? All right. So what role did you have with you? It is tele informatics plus crafts. The tele informatics skill is four dots. Oh, it's my favorite. I didn't even know it was a skill. You've got four dots in it. Well, it's a merit actually. It's a merit skill. Sorry. My crafts, I have one. So I'm the only five dice for this. Okay. Unless there's a minus. I, while there, can't think of any minus. Can you imagine what kind of a minus there would be? I mean, I guess it's tough to concentrate in a car when you try to do this. But, you know, you've done this enough time from childhood on. You know, I have his childhood. I just imagine that the reason why he can do this is that he is so focused on details because he didn't want to know what the hell was going on around him. Yeah, exactly. He can really push away the focus on the blood. I also have the meditate merit. Which is also why he can't make the decision too. Like, he struggles to make decisions. His character does because of the same reasons. Yeah, but he has that meditative skill where he can drop instantly into his own state. Well, that takes time, I think. Doesn't it? Or is it his state? No, no, I couldn't remember. That took the last episode of Mike Rita. Instantly. So it takes five minutes. Go ahead. Enter your Zen state first. Ohhh, definitely sense. What's your dice? Cool. My dice pool is five. Do you want me to meditate first or just roll? Meditate first. Do you want me to meditate first? Yeah, instantly. Instantly meditate. Yeah. Okay. So you enter a instantaneous meditative state. Ta-da! You then roll your five dice since you're meditative, nothing bothers you. Not for babbling, not people shouting for directions, not the radio, buzzing in the background. All of which I might have gave you a minus four, but I now will not. It's cool, man. It might be the most positive thing in World of Darkness. So naturally, Scott hates it. I rolled three successes. Wow, three successes. Does that mean you know three things about the item? No, I think it's just, you know, if he's 60, then I get to know the form and function. So the level of your success is not really important. Doesn't matter at all. You know, there's an exceptional success thing down here, but I did not get this. Okay. Good enough. You're aware of the chemical makeup. I should actually say the alchemical makeup of this particular elixir. Because while in your mind, you're seeing elemental table and different formulas that are spinning around your head right now, you're also seeing that there's a degree of, for lack of a better term, magic that goes into creating it. A spark. Some kind of divine spark that pulls these elements all together to form the elixir. I wouldn't understand it at all. No, I don't have an occult inside. You're seeing like, oh, that's a pinch of calcium, and that's a dream of hydrochloric acid, and you're seeing the chemicals in your brain. But you're also seeing that there needs to be some sort of spark to it. Some sort of divine, magical initiation to really give the elixir its power. That's the form. What do they call it in science, John? Some calcifying event. Your catalyst. Thank you. That's an excellent term. A divine event. Yeah. This is a, yeah, a magical. I'm sure I think I shouldn't think of it in a scientific way. No, it's an excellent term. That's perfect. As far as the function goes, you are absolutely assured and confident that this elixir is used to bring back people from the brink of death. We got one. How many of them? Sorry. So if, say, something were to go wrong in, well, you know from hanging out with Jay for at this point, probably four or five months, you know that the, each, like, vast view you were basically brought into a government organization. It was something your tele informatics was something you were born with. It just, who you were, a small child. I had psychic bills. You know that Jay doesn't talk about his initiation. You know it was brutal and probably caused him to nearly die. This particular elixir is one that brings people back from near death. So. If she looks like she's going, you give it to her. That's her. Why would she be hiding that? More to the point. We may need this in 48 hours, so. And also true. So I tell Jay this information. I think that's, you know, it hasn't been used. So there's no province to it at this point. I guess maybe you could see. Okay. You see what looks to you to be some sort of lab. It's amateur, but yet it's impressive. So this is not a government lab with sterile conditions. This is a basement somewhere with rafters and a washing machine in the background. Yet it's a really nice looking lab for an amateur. And then you see what looks to be a wallet. It has slots, little leather hooks in it, that these ampules slide into. So it's almost like a folding leather wallet, but yet instead of having places for credit cards and such, it has little like half circles of leather that attach to the, you know, open part of the wallet that these ampules slide into. And you see it sliding into a very finely tailored suit. Yes. You see this finely tailored suit in a horizontal position. So it's almost like you're looking, you're underneath it and you're looking up at the suit. And the jacket has fallen open and you see a dress shirt and a tie in this vision that you're having. And there seems to unfortunately be some motion associated with this vision. But you also see a very delicate looking female hand reaching up during this encounter and slipping the... I don't know, I got this channel. The small, yeah. The small, the small leather holder out of an interior pocket of the suit. So it is small. Apparently it is. Everything about their evidence is small. That is your provenance, your form, and your function. That's a lot of information. That also changes. Very important. Doesn't it? Yeah. This isn't the initiation drug. But it's probably the one that's going to save her. Because if I can't get a hold of anybody and she's got this poison corsing through her body and she can't handle it. We're going to be down at two miles. Well, we have gotten to begin with. Well, he knows that we might need to use all of our meal to get it through it. So, Jay, you're going to have to trust me a bit to use some of the... By all the fact, originally... Can I stand here? Can I stand here? Can I stand here? Are you being ridden? I'm not going to stab her. I'm not being ridden by any type of... Right? Wait, cue the music. No, I'm not. I don't hear any music. That'd be awful. You hear a little bit of a jingle in the back. There'll be no riding in my sister. It would be easier if she is not in one of her. In one of her lucid moments, so I don't need to wait for her to be lucid. Well, I would say that Chu's psychometry took probably just two to three minutes for him to be able to put that together. Chu, do you suffer any fashion damage, I think, after that? Or is that not one of the ones that you do? Yeah, I do. All right. So, immediately after focusing on this vial, his nose starts to bleed profusely. He looks like he's going to pass out, but then he regains his composure and is able to tell you. The information he just departed to you. So, she's still ranting. You know, no one's going to rant for five minutes. You just know she's still ranting. At this point, Michael, play. You're more than able to nick her with the knife, if you need to. I'm suggesting that that's a waiting thing. Oh, no, it has to be done. Okay. The knife doesn't just reach out and, you know, it needs to taste. Well, I can... Okay, very enough. Yeah. All right. So, I take out the subtle knife. He stabs my sister. It's falling. Hey! Sorry, it was a reflex. Sorry, Mike. Wait, it says four dice. My eye has an artifact skill. That doesn't really apply to that, does it? Well, I have my occult skill that has a specialty in artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. It's in the case of an actual artifact. I guess you determine one detail or fact about the situation. Do you get more information for more successes? It doesn't say that. So if you want to roll it, that's your call. What do I see? I see one. Eight. Fairly. One success. We're all over the threshold of what was needed. So yeah, he leans into the back seat and just nicks her shoulder or something just to allow the blade to taste the blood at your heads of all. No! This wasn't as supposed to be! I wasn't supposed to get on my neck! You do that, you nick her, and then you hear the whispering. It starts very low, and then builds up into a cacophony of whispers, and then finally one voice comes up through the whispers. Your knife says the girl did seek the reverend and did travel to his abode in hopes of learning more of the ancient art of the ascending ones. I don't have to kill the reverend. Well, it does anything about the rape, but if she didn't come to him, that's what you hear in the whispers from your knife. Okay. So that answers all the questions I possibly would have asked of her while she's lucid, and then you have two questions I can ask her. Thank you, gentlemen. Both of you. What the fuck were you thinking? Yeah, now they're personal questions. What the fuck is wrong with you, Claire? The only thing we can ask her is, "Do you know anything we can do to help you through this?" If we know what she took, we'd be able to counteract the drugs inside with the medical laboratory. I know. Would you have access to it in your branch? Which, by the way, I'm still filming. Yes. What? This is... Let's go. Well, let's go. No, there's still, I think, trying to go to my contact. Okay. It's been now roughly five minutes in the car. Edgard is been driving. He has no idea where he's supposed to go, but he's heading back towards the safe house because that seems like the last little thing to do right this second because he doesn't know where your contact is or how you'd be going. Or do you want to send him to that one house? I did want to send him to the one house. I'm sorry. I remember you saying that, but I forgot briefly. You know, there were other people in the hours of that place. Would they be... We're not being followed. Are we already between determined if we're being followed in? No one has been paying attention to being followed at this point. I'm the worst drug. We're not on the fine. I don't think you're the worst drug. I think we're all equally damaged with the exception of... So, in five minutes, you've not reached anybody out of the phone. You've given directions to Edgard roughly to get him there. You're the neighborhood you don't know really well? All right. At this point, with all the information I have, I might change the destination to just the safe house. We have Madison to keep her from dying. Maybe call the sister up. Just in case. Yeah. Tell her to meet a second if she has the ability to do something with her. Correct. As well. She's got some healing powers. After about five minutes of driving around and you got the information from you, you got the information from Michael Clay's knife. You feel a buzzy in your chirpane and it's your government. Right. Your government phone, give me a text alert. Take it out and glance at it. Right. It says, "Where the fuck are you guys?" It was from... It's a number that doesn't register, but you do recall that they were supposed to be a delivery tonight and you were supposed to then go on to the... I tossed the phone into the middle row of seats. Right. Kind of a Danielle said, "Stop trying to call. Find out what this is about." Okay. Daniel, you're holding Jay's cell phone. I touched three buttons at once and said, "Fuck it." And he was with your face on. He was with your face on. He was with your face on. He was with his face. I can't even train it back. My sister and I tell Montes to change direction towards the safe house. Okay. He doesn't know what that means because he is from New Orleans. No. Or now he's, as he would say. He doesn't know what it means, what it means. He's in East Cleveland. He's like, "It's not." He's like, "In the morning." He's like, he has no idea where he's at or what he's serious. So what he's serious, direction is to home. We have about started. There you go. I'm sure we have. Sure. Somebody takes a moment, takes tickets, the directions. All of the arrows. Put the next one here. You just put me in charge of the car and the lift here. Does anyone pick up the phone or whatever the fuck you are? I'm going to take my pinky and carefully type out. We're about to arrive in 15 minutes, which might not be true. Right. But I send it. It took you about 20, 25 minutes to find the place where she was at. So that's not true. That's not true. I thought you were meant to find out how to set the text. Which is button. What the? Technology. A text comes back. You're not here. Delivery can't be made. Reschedule for tomorrow. 10 p.m. I'll be in contact. Those texts come through tomorrow. Just a quick succession. Just stand up. All right. So we're going around that at that point, right? You're talking with Daniel. You hear her water, the first sense of awards she said in five to ten minutes. Which is... Jay. It's just... All right. Focus back on Clara. Get out of here. Right. Clara. Jay. What did he do to you? You came. Yes, I did. Of course I came. But you never come. You need it to me? How was that? It helped you to come and we needed help. And you didn't come. Clara, what did he do to you? The Reverend. I don't remember. I told him I wanted to be like you. Now you don't. And she fades back into a state of confusion. But on this drive back, I'm texting Sister Katie and saying I need you back at this time. She stayed at the library later because you were gone and the mission was probably going to be off for that night. So she didn't worry about it. And then Sister Katie, you get the text, come back immediately. Clara's in a bad way. Yeah, in a bad way. And then you beat them easily because St. Patrick's is not very far from the state class. And you are waiting there for them. Your listeners clues. See that. Fine. It's true. And then you guys arrive. So Sister Katie's there. The delivery's not made half the way for tomorrow. And you were able to then transfer Clara. Clara too. Seemingly paid for me because she's moaning and thrashing and really fighting the elixir that she has obviously taken over. Whatever she is. I have two of the vials. I asked two from the other one. Okay. Or maybe you can keep it. I don't know. I might call Dr. Lucius and ask him for help too. I absolutely would if he's available. But I want everybody out of the bedroom. I'll take care of Clara and Sister, I want your help here. Lucius has been relegated to the midnight shift at the Methadone Clinic on West 25th Street. That's been his penance for... During over Fairview Hospital. For screwing over the kind of my group who pulled a bunch of strings with Fairview Hospital. And he lost his license temporarily. He was suspended. And now if he has it back, he has to work at the Methadone Clinic helping addicts. What he does say is, fuck this place. I'll be there in a few minutes. And he showed up after you at the city house, which he of course is well aware of. And knowing Dr. Lucius as I do, I make sure she's dressed before you get set. Yes. You've got her completely taken care of in that regard. And so the rest of the evening will play out as... Oh my gosh, in which Sister is doing her spells anything that you can think of as a purifier. Dr. Lucius is using his medical talents, which are at a disadvantage. Because he's dealing with a political alert. What he does know of the human condition. And he has work in a minute. I don't know if I can tell you she's about to go give her an elixir. Right. She goes from thrashing and screaming to... The hands of Satan Luke allow me to heal. So I'll be doing that. Okay, so she's using the hands of Saint Luke benediction. There's times when Claire needs to be held down. There's times when Claire needs to be comforted. There's times when Claire can use liquids. Because she's obviously parched and sweating terribly dehydrated. I'm going to let you make the role for Claire to whether she survives the night. It's three dice and you have to have one success. There's no other roles, nothing else you can do. If she does not succeed, you may attempt because you'll be forewarned by Dr. Lucius. Right. She is going. So you'll have a chance to try one of the ampules on her if you wish. All right. You're not using any willpower? She can't fight. Yeah, it's her. This is her. You have a her body that's set to reject the poison. Ooh, two successes. Two knives. Like in True Alton, much like you did, her body eventually, sometime you're gone, accepts the poison, converts it into power. And suddenly her breathing returns to normal and the thrashing stops. And her eyes start moving back and forth under her eyelids. She's obviously fallen into a REM type sleep. And Dr. Lucius breathes a heavy sigh of relief, as I'm sure you do as well, and sister Katie. And you guys are probably, for the rest of the group I'm imagining, just trying to get some shut high because it's been hell of a night.
