Jade finally delivers on the Task Force's request for data on the headquarters of Vitamin Bee. A horrible history of blood, sacrifice, and murder unfolds...

[music] Hello, and welcome to Night of the Night actual play podcast. This world of darkness storyline shit luck was written and run by our storyteller Scott. [music] And now, please enjoy chapter nine, scene three, titled "Bad Karma." [music] Oh, of course, our play members, of course, are loaded feet back. Yes. So we get a post on our forum, come smiling Jack. My nickname is Gerard, from my favorite NPC, and vampire the masquerade, blown minds. I've always liked him, although I'm nothing like him. I found the KOTN while browsing through a list of actual play podcasts on RPGpodcast.com, and I listened to one episode, and then immediately went back and listened to all of them that I had missed. I really liked the way the story unfolds, and also how the characters deal with the danger that they're facing. Keep up the good work. Thank you for the post, smiling Jack. Yes, thanks, smiling Jack. We appreciate you going back and listening, although that had to be like 20 episodes plus. Yes, probably. I mean, you posted this on yesterday, Jack, which is January 29th. We have 24 episodes out. Yeah, we have 24 episodes. So a lot of listening. Yeah. That's some dedication there. Thanks, smiling Jack. Listen to all of you. [laughter] You lived it. That's what you needed. Other than that, I've got a couple of cases where podcasts have played our promo, or have given us a shout out. Pope Gamer was one of them that mentioned us on their podcast. We'd like to thank them. The other ones that played the promo would be the Scutter Skyves, and the third one would be Darker Day's podcast later. A promo on their show as well. Excellent. I would like to thank everybody for that. There, we have for playing other people's promos. Please do do us. It's something we should talk about. One more thing I want to mention is on our Nights at the Night Facebook page, there's a discussion area, and a few people have posted questions or discussions. So I'd like you guys to try to visit there and get feedback. We've had like three different questions one of them was, should the feedback have its own show? No. One of them is, sorry. I feel strongly about that. Really? Because I kind of think it should have its own show. Well, that's something that can be discussed. And the other one is, what's it like to adventure in your own home time? Does it lend to the game, or does it distract from it? Because your players are always like, you know, it's not how it really is. Or does it just make it easier? And the third one is a question about tactics that we used a few of them in the game. Well, we only used one. But we used teamwork a lot, and the teamwork rolls, but have we ever used tactics and we, you know, intend to use them as a future. So, okay, one last thing before we get into our session today is we got some feedback from the White Wolf page. Not really feedback as much as a question from Neverwinter27, who asked, what happened to Ryan? I haven't heard from him in the recent session. I told Ryan about this feedback, and he was happy that anybody even noticed he was on the podcast all along that he was missing. I think it's kind of cool when you think about it that the person identifies with the character in a voice and is able to realize that, hey, where's that guy? That's John Beamer for all those of you who are not as aware of Ryan's absence or attendance as Neverwinter27 was. And when I talked to Ryan about it, he said there was no problem in that to let you all know that the reason he's not playing anymore is he got a new job that's keeping him busy in addition he and his wife are expecting a new child. So, he's going to be out of the role-playing business for a while. And we miss him, but his character does figure prominently later on in the story. Interesting things that happen with Mr. John Beamer, so although Ryan isn't with us, he became a storyteller character and proved pivotal in the last couple chapters. Alright, this is The World of Darkness, Story, Shit Luck, Chapter 9, and with us tonight is... Jim playing Katie O'Connor, non-extraordinary. Tom playing Jay, Mike playing Michael Clay, without playing Special Asian Chewbook. On your way out, I will phone Nico. Oh, don't forget the call, what's your name? Oh, shit, you're right. Thank him. Thank him profusely for, you know, his hospitality, after taking the time. And once I've had time to think in the way he taught me to, I will be more than happy to share any findings and discuss conclusions with him later. Oh, I understand. I understand. I'm glad I could be of some service to you. Well, good, Nico, because I suspect I'll be calling upon you again to follow up on any of the questions I can offer. Same to you, my friend. See you later. I call him Jay. What the hell? Sorry, darling, we were, you know... Yeah, you've been attacked all night long, your life's on the line, and then you don't even return a simple text. You couldn't text me back. We're okay. I'll talk to you in two hours. I was in a place that didn't have a signal. We always have a signal. Deep underground. All right, fine. You didn't say text me back. You said call me. I'm calling you. Don't try to turn this back on me. You know, you completely forgot. Something was more important, obviously, than whatever I was able to dig up. I've got some information back on the... I've got some information on the parcel 3800 block of woodbine that you wanted me to check on. We have the building, the vitamin B corporation, or whatever. Yes. I don't have a ton, but my god, that's the best history in your world. Right, we actually checked into any occult history or just any overall history on that particular address. Right, I, you know, it takes some time. I'm running through a lot of different databases. No, I've got some information for you. It's probably the first half information. I think it just goes through just about until the turn of the century, the 1900s. But I've got some information for you. I'll just send this as an attachment. An attachment comes through to everyone's phones. That means you... One that I don't got yet, because they haven't sent it to me. Right, and except for your... That's the emphatic spread. You'll have... Well, it is being faxed. And you can still have a sheet of paper. We give you Tonys, but it's all scorched and burnt and blown off and a lot of that. It's pretty... Crack screen. Yeah, you realize there was a text that you did not get. Right. You must have been down, but now you're back up again. You noticed in your notifications that you have a new bit of information. And it's from Lucius. And he says... It's a very short text. Tony's crashed, going to emergency feedback. And that was sent somewhere around... Actually, about the first hour you were at the library between 9 and 10, it was sent about 9.45, 9.50. Right in that ballpark. So all of these things took place at the location that would eventually become that address. 3,800 would by an avenue of Cleveland, or Cleveland, Ohio, personal, or a longitude and latitude. Or the Western Reserve or Ohio County, or career or college. So all of those are the same place, just using different measuring. Western Reserve and Ohio County were larger than states back in the day. But she tried to filter out all the results for Ohio Country, or Western Reserve, or Cuyahoga. It didn't sound like it happened. She noticed a seemingly a parallel that there was some type of stone that was involved in some early massacres. And then she saw something about a stone in something that happened in the 1800s at the same location. And she made a leap of faith. So it's impossible, obviously, to tell if those Indians, or settlers, or whoever were killed at that exact point. But the terminology seems to be somewhat similar, and so her guess is that, yeah, so the first couple are her reaching a bit. I guess you say using a more fuzzy logic, you know, towards those first couple of results. And then as obviously as she gets later on, and in the land was actually parceled up and had a parcel number, it had an address. Could be a little more specific. She could be much more specific and know that that was that area for sure. Now she just got to 1900. So she said, you know, it's going to take a little longer. These are massive databases, and I'm getting them in at hand for you, but it looks like a scary place. I think it's interesting how the, in our research, it was the pranks of the French. They were involved in a lot of this beef stuff in the beginning. And then it was the French that supplied the fair clay or whatever it is. Shawnee? Shawnee to keep the airport? Yes. So there's seven different query results that Jade Richard, I'd thank her for her fine work as always. Anything else? Well, call me back next time. Of course, of course. So sorry. So anything up from the 1900s to present would be appreciated when she has time. She thinks that she'll probably have it before end of business today. She'll try get to it. If not, she'll stay after and wrap it up so that she can get it sometime this evening at the latest. The first result was 1657 National Archives. Degano Wida decreased that the fallen, airy warriors should be sacrificed on this sacred standing stone of that vanquished tribe. So on the high banks of the Cricut River, the Iroquois chief performed the act at the setting of the sun. Number two, from the National Archives 1761, the Shawnee raid had surprised the Iroquois and their eerie allies. The raid itself wasn't as unexpected as this was their ancestral home. The manner of weaponry was surprising and proved decisive. Using firearms supplied by the French, 22 Iroquois and Erie fell on that day. The Shawnees celebrated their victory on the high bluffs of the Cuyahoga. Now again, both of these were Jake's attempt to look at the history and limit it to the area that we're looking at, which was 3200. Would buy an avenue in Cleveland later, or prior to that, it was a Cleveland Ohio partial number, and then she went with longitude and latitude and etc. And I guess the one she went with this deck this far, she was just looking at anything that had to do with this standing stone. Yeah, moving backwards. Well, and she'll say when you slug her on the phone, that, you know, what she learned was that the Ohio city is on the western bluff of the Cuyahoga River. And Crooked River is what Cuyahoga means. So she was able to, whenever she saw something that had to say the high bluffs, that meant the western side, because the eastern side was a swamp. From the research that she did and from the queries that she was getting back for other parts of the Ohio country and other results. So she really tried to narrow it down to that area of Ohio city, and then when she saw that very first result, where someone was sacrificed on a sacred standing stone. And then later on, you had to hide back on the Crooked River in particular. Yeah, exactly. And then you also got the situation where later on, I believe, the Brooklyn Millworks burned to the ground. And all that remained was a burnt Indian stone that the building was founded on. So she went from a burnt Indian stone that made up a big building to, well, could it be, you know, well, it is on the high banks and it is on the western part of the Cuyahoga, that these warriors were sacrificed by the Iroquois chief. So she says, you know, I didn't just say, well, something atrocious, I could have given you 150 results of atrocious things that happened in the Ohio country with settlers and Indians and area of that. This, I think, I narrowed down to at least being a stretch, but not a huge stretch is what she's saying. You know, it's a fuzzy logic week, but I'm not just picking something in the area and saying, here's a death. If it happened on the eastern side of the swamp, I'm not including it. I was just looking for an address search. You went well beyond what I was expecting. Well, she said, well, yeah, I started getting some results back with scary so I kept going back. I am not complaining. Question. I just want to point a clarification. How many people on Team Valkyrie are missing you again that we're looking for? Twelve. Is there something here that refers to that? I was, let's finish reading three, four, five, but Bob, my point was that we wanted to know about the bee company. And this is what the bee company not only went and established itself here, but went out of their way to establish themselves here by killing people that weren't previously here. I had a lot of bad stuff that happened, and this just verifies it, but it doesn't give us an answer. Guys, I just saw something big. Well, go ahead. Read number three, Jim. No, I can't just go over with the bee. Yeah, he doesn't want to lose it. Yeah, surrounded by the 22 wings of the 11 vessels, seven commanded the bee lore to appear. Okay. Oh, that's back on the research that done the library. Yeah, 22 wings of 11 vessels, seven commanded the bee lore to appear. Twenty-two Iraqis fell on that day of the Shawnee raid. Not Iraqis. Whatever. You're quite clear. This is a clan of seven perished in the fire. I think that's not twenty, there's twenty-two there, there's seven here. Where's seven? I think that's I. I commanded the bee lore to appear and behold he did. It is I. Oh. That seven isn't right. Well, it's a twenty-two. Yeah, the twenty-two and eleven book. That's, it's a seven. I thought that was a seven. That's seven. No, that's not here. But your handwriting drives me nuts. No, it does. Damn you, Mike. Who wanted to? Okay, so do you want to do that? We're on number three, Bob, or? Yeah, Bob, why don't you go ahead and Jim, or? Uh, see, it's... Number three. ...1794 National Archives. The remnants of General Mad Anthony Wayne's lost company were assaulted in endless pitch battles by the Indians of the Western Confederacy. Shawnees, Delaware's, and Ottawa's skirmished with the lost company after they had become separated from Wayne's main fighting force at the Battle of the Lost Timbers. An auxiliary force of chief blue jackets warriors pursued the company as it was slowly starved, scalped, and driven nearly a hundred miles deeper into Indian country. A 20-man company was reduced to just six soldiers when the final blow was struck by the Shawnees. All six men were scalped in ritual fashion upon the standing stone by the crooked river. Now, you're mentioning something I know to have to do with six times? No. No? It was... It was 22 wings. This was 22 wings and it's 22 earthquakes, so... Okay. I don't see this 11 correlation yet. 1836 National Archives. A contingent of Cleveland militia supported by the county sheriff routed the angry citizens of the City of Ohio who were attempting to blow up a bridge under construction over the Cuyahoga. The Battle of the Bridge, as it was called, resulted in the deaths of three City of Ohio residents at the site of the contested bridge. Emboldened, the Cleveland contingent ferried over to Cuyahoga and assaulted the City of Ohio proper. A chaotic riot ensued throughout the streets of the City of Ohio as enraged Clevelanders exacted their revenge for slights both real and imagined. The melee culminated with the deaths of two more City of Ohio residents who were killed by gunfire at the site of the Brooklyn Mill Works. 1837 National Archives. Said as an English, filled the residents of Ohio City as their beloved Brooklyn Mill Works burnt to the ground in the early morning hours of February 24, 1837. The entire Willoughby clan of seven perished in the fire. All that remains of the Mill Works is a scarred and burnt Indian stone that the building was founded on. And again, that's how Jade traced back some of the previous one. Correct. The one in two, et cetera. The sixth query result was from the Smithsonian Archives 1861. Fisticops and sporadic gunfire broke out at the barracks for the 16th Ohio infantry on the site of the old Brooklyn Mill Works in Ohio City. No deaths were reported, but several serious injuries were reported, including a soldier who lost an eye to the melee. And finally, the National Archives 1890. A tenement house built for the influx of working immigrants suffered a partially collapsed roof at 3,200 Woodbein Avenue last night. Heavy rains and thunderous wind gusts nearly took the entire building down. 15 tenants were taken to the nearby hospital, some with serious injuries. Okay, my guess would be that a number of these are probably... Yeah. I mean, number seven. Yeah, that was a windstorm. Or was it? I mean, I see what you're saying, but, you know, not necessarily being heard shaking in, like, giving us the answer, but I think what it hints at is if they've gone out of their way to be company, to get this site that, again, there's some kind of magic that's of a nature base that they're looking... I mean, they looked for a specific location to put their building at, and they built it there. And there's a stone there that goes back to many, many rituals throughout time. I mean, just looking at the big picture, then there's some shit going down there that isn't necessarily a good thing. And we're the 12 guys that we're looking for captured and then sacrificed on that, or going to be, because we're moving pretty slow if they're going to be. That's been pretty fast paced couple of days, actually. Oh, yeah. I guess I'm looking at her from our point of view. Not our character's point of view. When you look at surrounded by 22 wings of 11 vessels, how would that be? Could that be? Could the 11 vessels be people who got the beans on them? That's what I was thinking. That's what I was thinking. I'm also thinking that maybe some of those 11 are the missing passports of Alperie. Why would they need Valkyrie people to do whatever they need to do when there's people everywhere that they could just grab and, well, show these on it. But also, I don't know that-- I do have a theory about this. I don't know that these two necessarily mouth. True, they don't. Because here we're talking about the vitamin B company and why they chose where they chose to put their facilities. And here we're talking about something you got from Benjamin. In my opinion, Benjamin and the B company are at odds, not on the same side. Right. Well, speaking of that, there is something about my notes that it seems odd. But that all the references are all masculine. There is nothing of a queen. And when you talk about bees, you usually have a-- The king of the beard of the bees. Everything is king. Everyone is prince. Lord of the bees. And lord. And so, Harvey was wondering if that's significant or pointing more towards the-- Benjamin is male. Well, I'm just wondering if that's reinforcing that. Right. It just kind of seemed to stick out to me. No, it's a good point. Can we know anything or can we find out anything about the bee lord? Who is he? What is he? Because, I mean, it sounds like what that idol is kind of involved in is communicating, summoning, or talking to the bee lord. An artifact of the bee lord. An artifact of the bee lord. Which is, so there's an artifact that has to do with something with the bee lord thing, right? And then we got a piece of property that's got a rock on it that's got a lot of blood spilled on it over the years. Yep. And definitely involved in multiple-- Wait a minute, ritual? Wasn't that what you picked up at the very beginning? True? Yeah. I don't know if you were-- That it was-- I won't say it's good, but it seemed that it didn't have a positive. How did someone tell you about this right now? I was talking about a game context. Oh, I assumed that we were reading up with you. I said it would call to find out where you are, where you headed and where is he? Is he done with his little side? Is he alive? Did he come back? At 11 o'clock, the two of you with Mike walk up from the basement of the library. And if you find two waiting in the entry to the library. He looks the worst for where. You notice without too much problem that his ear is swollen. I want his left ear. And the side of his face is like red and irritated. And you see him before he sees you. And what do you do? That's true. I think we unfortunately have to stop it here. Let me jump in real quick and let you know that the rest of this recording is just the players giving their summation and what they think's going on. We'll continue with the rest of the recording right after this quick problem. Yeah, this is-- Well, I guess it could technically be said to be moving at the speed of like plot, but-- [Laughter] This is BS. And I've got a short fuse for BS. Damn, you are all over this game. What the hell? I'll just revert to form and shoot. What in the name of General Grant's earwax is that. God, that was awkward. [Laughter] The gutter skipes. And now the rest of the episode. Oh, that's fine. I also think there's something-- something about the Orleans Unfallenese. I'm wondering if the city-- Well, the way it's written is capitalizing all the things. So, but for some reason, Unfallenese, I'm wondering-- I'm wondering if there's a place in Orleans called "Fallenese" that maybe will offer some additional information. What is that New Orleans area? It's not familiar with this whole thing. I can imagine it before or something. Well, it's French. Or you can see that's the original French place, right? Or the old. How were you saying anything? How were you saying "France Talk"? I'm just wondering if it's something that all of Christendom hails and heeds, you know, which seems to be pretty-- which seems to go against everything I know about scripture since they shall have no idols before me. But hey! That's why we're here investigating. Well, that's not entirely true. I like that. You know, in South America, they have a whole bunch of rituals that they believe in, like they had the dead and stuff, and they're really heavy into that supernatural thing, and they're, you know, Christian, they believe in God. Well, the Christian was kind of-- I think the Christian was kind of cobbled on afterwards. That's true. They said, "Well, you can still do this thing." Right. Right. But they're not idols, and when you talk about the king with the beard of bees, all of Christendom hails and heeds-- Well, it's kind of-- I don't like-- I don't like-- Well, I need to-- I need to do research of that. I don't-- I don't remember that being taught in something. Well, who were they talking about? I don't know. That's what I mean, like the-- you know, again, king. You know, well, the beard of bees, you know, I've got an island that has a beard of bees. Um, again, all the male, the masculine forms of beelord buzzing prince. These kinds of things. You just find out what a translucent-- translucent opinion is. Yeah. Always with the more questions. Yes. And I don't think they're safe houses. That's it. Um, Sister Christian did all kind of spells. Yeah. They believed themselves protected by their pretty cause and incense. Oh, that's a spell. The magic circles and their magic spells. Okay. Good enough. Well done, yes. I might as well be your ortho-- you must be the investigator of the group. Sorry. Yeah, it didn't say anything about pesticides, you know? Yeah. It's like the size. I didn't say anything about that. What is it? What bomb is it we got? What bomb? I'm pretty sure that's what they mean by petty dust and incense. No, those are ritual tools. Like, dust, like, magic, dust. Definitely. I read that as you're probably talking about rate back in 1900s. Yeah. Rate and work going to work for you. Neither will your tiki torch. Okay, well, honey.
