Bloody and beaten, Task Force S.I.R.E.N. broods over last night's engagement. One of their own barely clings to life the Lutheran Hospital's burn ward. Now that they are down a member, the boss, Winston Tate, has called up a "specialist" to fill in. Listen as Task Force S.I.R.E.N. welcomes Sister Katie O'Connor, the pistol-packing, hot rod driving, dog-loving nun to the team.
[Intro Music] Hello and welcome to Night's of the Night actual play podcast. This world of darkness storyline, shit luck, was written and run by our storyteller Scott. Now, please enjoy chapter 8, scene 1, titled "Four Sirens for Sister Katie." [Intro Music] Chapter 8 in the world of darkness story, shit luck. Tom, I'm playing character of Jay, kind of the leader of the group. X, Iraqi Marine, fighter type, and warrior. I'm the gem, I'm playing Sister Katie O'Connor now. She's good at fixing cars, and dogs, and being a nun. She is. Fixing cars. Fixing cars. She's a little mad at this car background. And racing cars. Are you going to introduce the pitbull? Interpitbull, Leah. Yeah? Leah. I'm Greg, I play Dr. Lucius Miles, he's good at being a doctor. Dick. I'm Mike, I play Michael Clay, he's kind of an artifact nerd out in the field for the first time. My name is Bob, I play Special Agent 2 Park, who's an investigator with the FBI. All right, where we left off last time was in the driveway of a safe house in Ohio City. Winston had directed you to a new safe house since obviously the condos were no longer functional for you due to the explosion and the carbon monoxide poisoning. He was early in the morning, probably about 4.30 or 5 o'clock in the morning when you pulled up to this abandoned look being bungalow, very dilapidated, overgrown yard. And I think there was some consternation or some worry about the artifact that Michael Clay almost was carrying something along the lines of you're not entering our new house with that you do, magic GPS device, the GPS device that vitamin B is using to track you with. That's not a proof of it, that beacon of stones, but it's not, and this is where I want to call a shoe to back me up here. I backed up 100% where your aura reigned of this artifact or the device seemed to indicate that it wasn't evil, it actually was associated with something kind of positive if I remember it. I'm not quite good, but I remember you had a vision, I can't find my notes on it. It was a religious icon that I think during the harvest. Yes, it was positive though. Positively attractive, but we did get that from Benjamin or you did anyway. Right. Even good items can be used to track people. Right. But we don't believe Benjamin was that all responsible for this attack, right? I don't know if you wrote that out. Do you have a picture for him? It does look kind of weightiest garden, though, but we'll have to have that up on the website. We'll describe it to you. It is a small, ugly, figurine, of a bald man and it looks very crude and he has a beard of bees and is wearing a brown robe. Does it say Travelocity on it? No. Does it look remarkably like, hold on, I search my memory, I'm going back to our discussion of Marty with Marty the bartender. Does he look like a weird bald guy, big ears, heavy lids, anything like that? Well, this was under maybe. Yeah, wasn't that the description of Benjamin though? Yeah. Did he really look like him? And somebody did it or read on that thing and it, it was Benjamin was doing some kinky with it or something. What? What? At all. Benjamin was using it and looking at it or doing something with it when someone did some sort of a reading to it, reading on it, some sort of a background. I don't think Benjamin ever had it. It was acquired by Mike and Benjamin. It actually was acquired and the conditions of how it was acquired is very, I'm still trying to come to terms with it. You had some sort of a way of looking at where the hiding has been and what it's done or something like that and they had a glimpse of what the beekeeper guy holding it or looking at it at all. I have an ability called psychometry that allows me to know the purpose and function of objects but it seemed to be good in nature, not bad. The question was how did they find out where we were? I never knew where we came across this discussion I think last time we played and that we're dealing with bees and they can drag us by flying around being bees. I wonder if they could track them by the larvae that I stole? And when Henry, when Henry came out and flew back to Pride, why didn't we be headquarters or whatever? Henry knew where we were. Yeah we dealt with Henry specifically in the bar where the back was. In my apartment. Also true? And his home. What? And his home. And his home. Henry's home. She went to Henry's home. Yeah, Henry exploded into bees at his home. So if the bees maintained that knowledge then yeah, that would explain what happened. Okay. I don't see any other way. Alright, fine. You don't have to sleep with it. Any of them will die. I will bring it in and I will secure it as best I understand because I have a healthy respect for artifacts even in their powers or abilities or properties so. And I don't think Benjamin here is the antagonist. Where is this new safe house located by the city of the parking lot? He's in Ohio City. Well that's a big place. Not specifically. So is this discussion we're having taking place in the driveway? Yeah, just say this. I think it started with you ain't being meant. He's a shit into the house. Well, why don't you leave it in the car? Well, it's an artifact. He has to bring his downman with him. He can't leave without him. It's like leaving a gold bar out, you know. I can't even argue that it's an action figure and not at all. My buddy, whoever, he's a figurine, it's just a figurine. There's no sentence whatsoever. Am I even here or did I go with Tony in the house? Um, I believe that you, you know, I don't recall. I probably would have brought with Tony in the house before. Yeah, I believe you did, Greg. You went to the hospital and I think someone, I think either Jade or Winston, who you were talking with on the phone at one point, said go to the hospital and then get right to the safe house. Don't spend a lot of time alone anywhere because we don't know how compromised we are at this point. And they kind of indicated they had it covered and they're going to take care of me at the hospital. We got a plan or something. Right. I mean, yeah. To be honest, there's probably not much they could do, you know, for you at this point as well. I'm going to show you some guidance. As far as keeping my identity covered or something like that there or whatever. Right. Oh, what time is it? It's about five a.m. Okay. So I still have my nine o'clock appointment at the local branch of the Davis Pedro Library, right? Actually, that's a good place for you to take your little doll. You're not here, Doc. I'm talking to you on the phone. I believe that was argued last time we played. That was the text message. The meeting was to be for the Cleveland Public Library. You're going to meet one of your contacts at Cleveland Public Library and they're going to get you into the archives or the special collection part of Cleveland Public Library, but it doesn't open until 10 a.m. The library. In fact, Lucious, I remember you setting up something where Tony would be going to one little while he's going to be signing to another room. That was what we did with Ethan, but we do the same thing with Tony. You said you are going to do what you were going to do. Right. I don't know if that clears up the point of whether you want to come or not. No, I definitely don't know about that. I went with him. Good enough. Thank you. All right. So you are outside this dark looking bungalow. That looks rather mysterious material here. After your day, after your evening of scariest, Sister Katie isn't there yet, but there is a earphone ring. It ends up being jaded and see if I can find a nice picture. There's a lot of screwed up things happen today. She does not look at this. I know. You know, well, not at 5 a.m. after spending the entire night. I wouldn't know if I had to find out. I bet. She let you know that her and Winston had a conversation after she hung up with you last. And they don't think it's a good idea that you entered the bungalow just yet. They don't know how compromised. They were here in front of the driveway. They don't know how compromised your situation is. You just sent us here. Right. And we thought about it and said someone could be following you or someone could know where this is at or not positive. But we're sending someone to you who can verify that the house is safe to enter. Are we done here? Oh, I'm not talking. I'm probably just going to say, well, you're right next to me. It's a lot of the information. I mean, to make you clear what's going on. We go home now. We don't have a home now. It's just we blew up. No. I mean, we're done here. We've been compromised. We can get out of Cleveland. People trying to kill us more than I've been following. I mean, our major goal was to find out what killed the, I think we did, 12. We're done. You don't even know this is related to that. I mean, it's true. I mean, yeah, I'd like to go too. It would be nice to be, can I get my check and get out of here? But I don't think we've actually found out what's going on. Can they send some reinforcements? Reinforcements. Reinforcements. Can they send more effective investigators? Yeah. But you're the investigator. Well, send people to give a shit and put her in charge. And better know how to disarm bombs. Or know that they don't know how to disarm bombs. Sorry. Okay. So we're not going in the house, Jade. Where are we going? It's 5 am in the morning here. Yes. You're just going to wait there for me, Jade, please. And I promise you that we have someone to sweep the house that will be there within 15 minutes to a half hour. A half hour of shit tonight. I was not snipping. I said, you're just going to wait there for me trying to be reassuring as I was trying to be. You're at 3320 Vine Street. Are they scanning us? Are they scanning the building? Yeah. They'll be scanning the building, not you. Because we can go to some public place and have some breakfast to get out of here. Yeah. If you want to get to where is it, the big egg or where do you guys like to have breakfast at? I hop. It was big egg. It was a delicious full of sun on the wonders of the big egg. That get a lot of my patience for now. It's on Detroit Avenue just off the map. So it's just north of... So rather than just stand out here in the darkness after a very rough night, we go some place and eat something while we discuss our strategy. All right. So you end up with the big egg, which is actually a little bit more busy than you would think for quarter after five in the morning. You have yourself a restaurant that's starting to get hopping. It looks like it's a nice, safe oasis in the darkness after a rough night. Oh, crap. And you get yourself a corner booth where there's some privacy. It looks like that is. Right. What's it? It looks like that is... I go into the bathroom to try to wash off the majority of the blood that I am. Right. And everything, you guys look like hell. Lucius, did you follow the rules and just go to the hospital for a short period of time? I believe you did. If we... I remember you talking last time we played, you know, about where everyone was at. This guy's supposed to be here. This guy's there. Call me if I didn't happen. You're getting ready to leave the hospital the last time we played. But obviously you could change your mind if you want. Well, I would imagine somebody called me to join them at the end. Yes. Yes. So that's what I do. I mean, could you bring like bandages and stuff? I've got like three lethal. Mm-hmm. If I didn't... I'll bring my bag out through the shoulder if I remember correctly. You're getting another... I'm not sitting in the corner booth eating breakfast. I've been selling up more than this crap before I can handle it. The big egg is an inner city restaurant. It's, you know... It's what you... What do you shout about it right here? They're going to keep their eyes on themselves. A lot of pancakes on the side of GSW. Do I need to make a roll to stop myself from bleeding and all over the place? No, I believe the only time that a bleeding roll has to be made by all your lethal boxes or when some certain type of special damage is done to you that caused you to continue bleeding which did not happen. I just need to. I just didn't mention it before because there were people who waited for that. How does everybody else health-wise? I'm 100%. Well, yeah, you're new. You're the current dad. Not dad. I'm on all but dad. Well, the current monoxide poisoning damage went away, right? That's bashing 15 minutes. You know, you probably healed about so far it's been only about an hour so four of that would be going. One every 15 minutes, Bob. All right. So any bashing damage anyone has, four of those can be removed. Um, I don't know how that works with lethal. I don't think it does. Did you have any bashing or is it all lethal? Yeah, I guess it's all lethal at this point. Okay. Yeah. Okay, so these are filled in because I have that much health, 23, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 health and I lost three to lethal. You have no bashing at all items. So lethal heals one every two days. Not me, I'm special. You inject something in my eye, you have four bags and start something at length. After you? No, how much are you? Long as you're at least a pository. I'm good. Correct. Right. Yeah. No suppository magic yet. The cardigan's a little, you know, dusty and... Well, I got the leather patches on my sleeves. I don't want to put it on my rub through. Tweeds pretty... Tweeds pretty. It is pretty tough. Yeah. That's right. Okay. Tweed and tough. That's the same sentence, I'm sorry. I'm just waiting. I saved your life. Thank you. I saved your life. And you've been acknowledged. I opened a footnote saying that you saved my life. I just... That's what I know. I bid. Yes, sir. That's academic. So, at the Big Egg, we went to get a call from Jay to tell us all it's clear at the new digs. And... Fifty-second Detroit. It's about 14 streets to the west and up one major intersection is off. So, you're pretty close. And we discuss... Within five minutes. We discuss the plans for today. You? What are the plans for today? You. I pointed you. Have an appointment. Some of them will be. Not the information that can be changed. You're good. I mean, health wise to go, right? I am. But... Don't we need the doctor to go with you pretty much? Yeah. I would like to cover that. I would like the doctor in on that. Why do we need the doctor? Well, it is... You're a people person, Doc. It's 5 a.m. And... Well, yeah. I'm just saying... We're going to get much sleep. General plans for today. What is your meeting? I just left a message saying that I would be scheduled. Yeah. You were trying to reschedule to make sure that Greg was here so the doctor was just here. You... I say, pointing at Michael, you have an appointment with your book learning people. Pick people in the public library, which is right downtown. So breakfast comes. Me? I think I'll be making some more potions. It's like a healing one. I think we need more weapons to use against the work I'd like for. Well, against. Well, that's not going to do much against this one of these. You were able to remove most of your major equipment that you needed from the building before it nearly collapsed and is probably now pretty good. I'm talking about carbon monoxide detectors previously on the shitbox. Michael Clay got us some bug bombs and stuff. That's good. Got that. Full face mask. Would be good. So bees can't fly in our orifices. Orifices? Well, I guess masking only in the last 15 minutes in case you tried a kunukus. Well, they might be able to go into your ears, so maybe earplugs too, I don't know. It's not bad I did. Okay. So more prepared would be... Yeah, they would start earplugs. Earplugs. Earplugs, Michael Jackson, surgery mask, or you know, like a dust mask. Goggles? Sure. Seal off dyes. You know, like if we are doing a stakeout, they do have a lot of contractors working for them. We might be able to, you know, do the drywall mask and video cameras. Get goggles. You know, if we were to go and infiltrate the compound or whatever, I don't know. How did you get an appointment? I'm certainly not suggesting that. How did you get an appointment? How did you get an appointment to be? Vitamin B? If I remember correctly, you called them on the telephone. Cloud and so you asked for Henry. Yeah, you had an appointment with Henry and they said that he was on available or something. Yes. And then you just scheduled with a new... Got it. Right. And her name was... Tommy. Tommy song. There you go. Tommy song. So yes, breakfast comes, you got a chance to eat, if you need a chance to sleep. No one gets back any willpower from, because you did not get a night of rest. Yeah, so no willpower was gained from that. However... Yeah. Chew. Not seeing it, Michael, not seeing it, Jonathan, not really seeing it. These are vices, perhaps. Not really seeing it. I'm not seeing anyone who played to their virtue or vice to such a strong degree that you would get some willpower back from it from the last scene that we had. I don't know theirs, but I agree with mine. I mean, we ran back into a burning building and climbed us, scaffolding to recover the idol, the artifact to move. I don't mean... It's rooted. Okay. You know what? Greed. I didn't see it as greed, but now you've exploited that way to make, you get one willpower back. It's got a good question for you. Yes. This whole willpower getting a little power back when you use your vices or virtue things. Yes. Does it or can it happen during a scene? Normally it happens at the conclusion of the scene. It's got an addiction that when I get a willpower back, I can turn it around instead of giving it to myself and give a bunch of willpower to other people temporarily and it lasts until the end of the scene, which doesn't make any sense if I didn't. We'll make sure we time it correctly. You know, to me, usually these things happen at the end of the scene, but I'll reread the rules to make sure it can't happen mid-scene, which I'm sure it can, but we'll make sure Jim that that doesn't become something we can't use, that would be no sense at all. If we go to sleep and say a couple more hours of sleep where we get a willpower back, no? You need pretty much a good six to eight hours on an erupted, I mean I get to be went to sleep at six a.m. or seven a.m. and woke up at three o'clock in the afternoon, I would say yes. But otherwise no. How many hours of sleep did you say we got? Six and six, twelve. It's not three. Right. We'll go to bed six and sleep six hours, you'll get up and noon. Right. Good point. And so far you've got about two hours of sleep. You guys are up kind of late anyways, investigating, you slept in about one to three and then around three o'clock in the morning, you know, things started going terribly wrong. So it's been actually a couple hours, so you should get even more. I don't think any of you have any health damage to this fashion, do you? Yeah, fashion. Did you take the, did you heal before I said before? Okay. Well actually it's been two hours because it's actually about two and a half. So another six that you heal up, bashing. Because actually we got about two hours of sleep, got up at three, the shit started hitting the fan and it's now about five, thirty in the morning or so. So the carbon monoxide damage, pretty much, has been down. Correct. Well I could probably use some sleep. Yeah, we're still waiting for the okay on the house. So as we get that from Jade, we'll head over. May I just raise a question, since I'm kind of new to the field thing? Here's an example where this will be the third time that this crew has set us up in a safe house and twice now and that's not panned out. Is there any reason why we should wonder about Jade or Winston and whatever people there are? Third time. I mean the one, the first was the original crew that disappeared. Oh no. This guy wasn't involved with. Okay, I apologize. I'm not so interested in that. We were set up in the wine bar, the UN isn't again, I keep forgetting the brewery. Great looks for it. The brewery, we compromised that. Okay. In my opinion. Okay. I'm sorry. It's a question to be asked. It's a valid observation. Because you don't want to save houses and it's a good thing to consider. I don't know. Just agree with that. We really should get that shoulder of yours into the ER. Yeah, that's a good idea. So the foam rings at about six, we'll say about six, fifteen or so. Okay. After you've eaten breakfast, you've been sitting around for a while and it's Winston. Jade is not on the line this time, it's just Winston. And Winston says the safe house is safe. He's been cleared. He's decidedly British with him. I think he's in Churchill. Yeah. He's got large jowls. He is. I guess by definition, jowls are large. He tells you that the house has been swept, it's clear. And he is going to temporarily assign the person who cleared the safe house with you because you're down, he knows that John Beemer's injured and you're injured and Tony is out of commission. I'm fine. I'm sure you are. Who's this person? She is a sister, she's clergy with the Catholic Church and she also has some talents that are right up the alley of this particular mission. And he sent her to the big egg, she'll be there shortly, to talk things over with you. Her name's Katie O'Connor. She's Cleveland native. She works with Malia's Malepicara. You're going to send me a picture on the phone because she'll be wearing a garb. So we have her and I here, Winston, we want to make sure that we're talking to you. She'll be in her habit. She'll be hard to miss. And we just don't believe that she showed up in her habit because everybody's on the carpet. I don't think she's going to draw attention to it. I think she would go and speak with us. Okay. Well, then he says he gives you a description of her and says that he's given her a description of you and she'll be approaching your table. John, Fred, long red hair. Yeah. Red hair, young Irish descent, the bleeding black man in the corner over there. You'll notice her because she'll tell you, you'll notice her because you'll hear her carved one. Winston wants you to contact the lead investigator of the arson from last night. They interviewed you a bit before you left the scene number saying, if I remember you saying correctly, you gave them kind of a, you know, half truth story. I think that that's going to cause us more trouble than not. There's nothing that I think you've got everything out of the condo that you needed to. Obviously, you weren't responsible for any of the explosives or the. I don't remember the half truth that I gave them. I don't remember the half truth that I gave them. I mean, I didn't tell you lies. No, no, I just met. You gave them the, the various of information and the left the scene quickly. I think that could actually cause us trouble in the long run by them having to search for you and look for you. I think you go to them and in any of you that they want to talk to an interview and you act as if you have done nothing wrong, which you haven't and you maintain your deep cover at this point. There's a, there's a good chance you might be compromised. I mean, you might need to call off this mission, but there's also a chance that you're not compromised, that it was just a situation where vitamin B or whatever, you know, that glomard is, knew where you were at and attacked you, but it's not a larger, you know, it's a concern. I don't see a problem of contacting the investigator and telling them where I can be reached. Yes. I'm like a go down there and sit in front of them and say, please ask me questions. No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying you could contact them if you ask you come in, don't avoid it is what I'm trying to say. You've got a good cover. You all have good covers. If they want to ask questions, answer the questions, you know, there's nothing to hide from and it will actually cause us more trouble in the long run if you try to be evasive than not. And if we start having them look for you, I don't think it's a good idea to have them having to look for you, but it's just here's where I could be reached if you need me or, you know, we're there for you. That's all I've got to say about that. So your safe house is ready, you know, go recuperated, get some rest. We'll talk later today. You know, we need to obviously formulate a game plan to are we breaking ties with the brewery? No, you're keeping that. I have no reason at this point to believe that they were the cause of the attack from what you're telling me. You think it was quite possibly the fact that you brought to your caddos and then there's a reason for us to break off contact. I'm just saying, is there any benefit to remaining contact with them? It's the last questions, I guess. If you have a job, if you see me in your car in the fucking work, people die there. So yeah, I mean, you know, you don't want neighbors wondering what you do for a living or not having a job or what not. So I think that there's just some basic camouflage to having a career or a job, but you know, that's the only advantage right now is just that cover plus, to be honest, there's some people there that were affected by this and we don't know their involvement up to this point. We believe that Ethan and Tony and Baca and Mario are okay, Michelle as well, the girlfriend. We believe all those people are not involved to any major extent, but we don't know that. So I think keeping your fingers on the pulse of that situation is valuable as well, even if it turns out to be a dead end. Okay. All right. It's in sleep. And he hangs up the phone. I'm going to try to sleep so he tries to kill me. Who would be a really cool, did he mention anything about me? He's getting raises. Yeah. So at this point, Sister Katie O'Connor can come in to the big egg and introduce herself and sit and go up the bell and we'll meet you at the house with me. Who would be a really cool sports car? You could fit like four doors for people and let's pick it up, it's got a huge engine and it looks cool. But not overly super. What do you have, W like 700 series? What's there? Steve, isn't it for the sister? What about a moustache? Yeah, like a big moustache. Or a charger. I bet you're more of a darac charger. No. Do I see a charger? Yeah, I can see her with the charger. That's what we're going to assume to start? A mini. So you're the rumble of a darac. A darac charger. The rumble. So? Right, this chick because it gets out of the car does not look like a nun. Right? It all gets ridiculous. For those Levi's stealth missions, we're going to be stitching out. Who was meeting us? Katie. Sister Katie O'Connor. Sister isn't a nun. Sister isn't a nun. So she's awful, that means. Boy. Or she just has a sample of the Lucius menu yet. Righty righty. She's happened to have a knife from the left supper of Levi's. Really? That's your line? That looks good. It's good. You boys need something. Well, that's awesome. I do. And you do? I'll talk to you later. Please, I think it is. I can't prove it guys. She strolls in, probably spots you guys in a mile away. They're bruised. In some cases, bloodied and exhausted, coated with dirt. That guy, Brian. Let's take a concern with Michelle, but I'm not going to be in the hospital. If I could probably help you out and get back to the house. Right? Whoa. Or at least take your mama. See you guys in the big eye and return to safe house. Yeah, you've been there before and you guys can fill me in on the way in. Give me the short run down and what's going on. And doctor, you'll have to excuse him. And don't ever say things like fill me in. I'm just saying. Thanks to a boy. So did you just have the house checking for-- Yeah. Is that some-- Was that with the group of people or by myself? Yourself. One of the things I want to go over to you guys is I want to set up a protection barrier against things to come in here so you don't have-- I can't play my character well unless you do it in a female voice. You don't want me to be doing this with female voice. You didn't mean to interrupt. Why don't you do this blessing on the house? I need to know what I'm blocking. Wait, wait, wait. Let's do some introductions. First of all, how did you get into Siren and who are you and why are you there? Technically, she's not in Siren. Winston just said that he's a gem loan. Yeah, she's I'm loaned right now. She's part of a conspiracy. You've all heard about, called Malius Maleficarum, which is a church-sanctioned conspiracy, basically. It fights for the church's best interest and fights for things that go bump in the nights for the church. It's called the shadow congression. And she is a member of that and Winston had-- and has known her for several years and used her to clear your safe house to make sure it was safe in the first place. And then he is now giving her on loan since Tony is down and out. So you don't really know her, to any extent, besides it's Winston saying she's okay. Depending on how much you trust Winston. Up down here, I just live in the area I help Bob Winston when I can. He said when he had got people that need to be moved from one place to another or hidden or protected, I kind of try to help Bob. Two people will die. But anyways, I'm the spell that I can do. I'm creating a ward against a specific creature. The hunter does not need to know the name of the entity. An obvious destination such as a vampire who killed somebody or could play the demon who tempted me or anything that's related to bees, I need to kind of come up with something that the people who are trying to attack this task force siren, I just don't know exactly what I should be warding against. Michael, do you have some ideas as to-- I'm going to discuss this on the drive today, huh? I've got my part. Dr. Scott-- That's my idea. This just got his. What these creatures might be, at some extent, I believe at least the designation. I did. I did. I do. Yeah, I do. Let's not discuss this in public, let's go to the same house. Right. And so you do.
