I'll be waiting for someone like you, someone worthy of me. No, no honor, no. All the Lord has sought things out and just two evil bastards out here in the wasteland. You do this, you do this right. You become me. I am nothing like you. You are me, already dead. To feel alive we seek sensation. Any sensation awash away the cranky black sorrow. It leaves us for a moment but then it comes back and we have to do it all again and we need more. Each time we need more, until too much is never enough. We are the already dead little day. You and me. The question is, do you have an Indian like it epic? I'd give my right arm for George Miller to make another Mad Max movie. This is spoilers. Get it because Furiosa loses her right arm. You guys are with me. Everybody welcome to spoilers. Doin' a new movie. It's been a while since we've done a new movie and it's been even longer since we've had this crew. I think since Saw X, we're going to introduce the hosts. We'll go weistus to eastus. I don't know if I mentioned this, but you're talking about Furiosa colon, a Mad Max saga. In this vein, I wanted to ask, if you could see a prequel film for a character or a movie, one that does not currently exist, what would you pick? Hello? My name is Corey Kylo Renmines, Rula of The Wasteland. Oh, no. Is that good or is that suck? I can't tell. It's not good. It was great. Rula of The Wasteland. It's really hard. He gets that like weird old school Australian accent. I feel like that's like an Australian accent of a bygone era that Hemsworth is going for in this movie, you know? Like only pappies talk that way in Australia. It's like he's a 40s broadcaster, but also with an Australian accent. Yeah. The power is with you. You are free to shoot. Come to me. Come to me with your pain and burden, and I will devil your grub. Food and water for everyone as much as you like. We will share the love, your rule with me in the splendor of a new wasteland. I will. I introduce myself, Corey Kylo, you know, prequels seldom kind of live up to the hype. They don't always work. I don't think. You know, I was trying to think of like what are like some of the best prequels and that there's not a lot that are like exceptional. So I don't know if I love the idea of prequels in general, but obviously the backstory we need to see is Darth Vader. What was he like as a little kid, you know? He's probably a little Helian, you know, probably just a little rascal, just, you know, getting into trouble all the time, breaking all the rules. That's the way I imagine Vader would be. He's an evil son of a bitch, you know. Probably a great driver. He was the best stop pilot in the galaxy. What were the tax policies like when he was a kid? That's what I've always wondered. How did trade work? Yeah, that'll truly make a man eul. Yeah, politics, baby. I don't have a lot of good answers for this, but there is one that has been talked about in horror circles for a while. Robert Engle and himself talked about this. You know that name, you know where I'm going. And that would be Freddy Krueger. Freddy Krueger has a pretty cool backstory. He was a man that was a murderer in a town, right? So he was, I don't know if the word serial killer qualifies or not, but he killed a lot of people, children in the neighborhood that he lived in. He was arrested for it. He somehow got off for it. And then the town came together and executed him. Then later in the movies, we see him as Freddy Krueger. It's after all that backstory. And in the movies, which there are a lot of, we get like little hints of that backstory. We see tiny flashbacks here and there. But I think seeing that could be good if it was done right. It couldn't just be that though. There would have to be some kind of kicker to it. Like it would have to be being told from his perspective and maybe he's kind of like the hero of his own story in some fucked up way, or it would have to be told from someone else in a different timeline. I think there would have to be some mechanic introduced to the narrative that makes it more interesting than like kind of that blanket description I gave. And if that was done, I think it could be good. When's the last time they made a nightmare? Oh no, I'm a straight movie. Has it been like six, seven years? What's the last one that's come out? The last one that came out was a reboot. It was in 2010, so a long time ago now, and it was the one where Jackie Earl Haley took on the role of Freddy Krueger. So it was the first time Robert Englund was not present as the iconic character that he's known for. Was that one good? Fuck no. What if they take this secret prequel approach where you don't know it's like an Elm Street saga film? See that's the kind of route that I'm thinking with my choice is I don't want to know what it is until like the movie is over. What I'm thinking, I just don't think prequels work. This one works. This one is amazing. I don't think it can get better than this prequel, Furiosa, but it usually just don't work. But I would like to be surprised by a movie and then have it be a property or an IP or something that I wasn't expecting. I think that'd be really cool if they could pull that off somehow. What would it be? How are you going for it? I don't know. I just don't know if there's any property out there that would kind of like subvert your expectations the entire movie without it being like revealed I guess. I don't know. Unbreakable. Like you look at this movie and you're like okay this is definitely Mad Max or some movie adjacent to that. Like it's very distinctive in what it could be but I don't know. I don't know. I think maybe like Mission Impossible or something and like you find out we've been following like young Ethan Hunt or something at the end of the movie as he's like going through an academy or something. I think that'd be kind of cool. Okay. Yeah I see where you're going for now. The problem is is that the marketing would completely fuck that movie over. Yeah. See that's the problem. So like they'd be like this is definitely a prequel to Mission Impossible. So we got to get asses in the seats just so you guys know it's a Mission Impossible prequel. Well I've been thinking about pray and that's the movie I think about surprisingly a lot for being like a movie I saw in Hulu randomly. I'm surprised more movies don't take that route because then you can kind of just say well fuck the box office we're going to count on word of mouth driving traffic to our streaming platform but like how many franchises can really pull that off. I'm with you Mikey. I think prequels almost always suck and maybe it's because like the most famous prequels are just the most dog shit famous for sucking. Yeah I'm going to go with a hereditary and it's not even that I want to see it but there's kind of like this aspect of like payment and the cult that exists before Tony Collette's family starts to get all fucked up and I want to see that like I want to see like the mom like starting to contact the devil or like how Tony Collette was raised and like maybe getting the sum of that is this the best prequel ever made like am I missing a really great prequel here or is it Furiosa a Mad Max saga. I don't know this is might be a controversial take and I'm going to say this and you'll scoff but I think Annabelle creation was a very solid horror movie especially considering that Annabelle is known to be like a really shitty horror movie so you know when they have the origin story of this Annabelle doll that actually that movie actually came together really well is very well reviewed to just kind of went under the radar is it better than Furiosa Mad Max saga maybe I have both positive and negative things to say about this movie this movie in fact reminds me of another Mad Max movie called Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome and that there's some really good stuff and there's some stuff that isn't good but the difference being is that Beyond Thunderdome is like very distinct it stops being good at a certain point so it's like half the movie is good mark yeah half the movie is bad this one is a little bit more uneven in that way there are things I like and things I don't like I'm not going to totally suck this movie's dick that's the thing about George Miller by the way I did ask chat GPT best prequels ever made Godfather part two sure I guess you could technically say that revenge of this it's like partially a prequel revenge of the Sith X-Men first class casino royale the hob the Hobbit trilogy temple of doom and Prometheus is what it gave me okay X-Men first class is my answer officially some good ones some really bad ones for a list of the best prequels ever made to give me the Hobbit trilogy but what I was going to say was George Miller likes what he likes and I do really respect that about him he likes weird people with weird character names he likes booms set in Australia and then he also like likes movies about cute animals like babe big in the city or happy feet so he's got very distinct taste what I found weird Corey was that unlike any other Mad Max this one had the thing that I hate the most and complain about the most on this podcast which is like Canon and lore like this is like very much set within the same universe as Fury Road unlike you know Fury Road which was kind of almost its own movie in a lot of ways yep here we go with I think one of the first problems with this movie right and again I do like a lot of this movie so don't take this as complete Furiosa hates but you know the Mad Max movies with the exception of the first one which isn't very good are just these movies that kind of exists in no particular order right it's these stories of the wasteland and there's this guy called Mad Max who happens to be the title character but it's pretty much just a bystander in a greater story now this one is not that this is more of a you know straightforward narrative about this person in their youth and kind of young adulthood and like what their story was who is Furiosa and what's her origin story that's what this movie is here to answer very specifically to the point where it's like setting up the last domino before a Fury Road starts right like you could almost combine these into one like four and a half hour movie now you would have a different person playing Furiosa actually technically three which Mikey I was gonna ask you so when I saw this with Josh my cousin Adam and Stevie like a month ago the movie started at eight right I quote unquote our tickets were for a showing at eight I looked at my watch on your Taylor Joy said her first word of the night at 935 like now granted a lot of that was trailers and commercials and all that shit but did you like the very long setup of like young Furiosa yeah I mean I think George definitely has his own style when it comes to directing is very distinct and sometimes I think it looks like it doesn't translate well on film in some some ways but it's like all in his you can tell that it's all in his mind or whatever it's all straight from his brain so it all looks cohesive he's definitely got his own look when it comes to these Mad Max movies so yeah whenever he want whatever he wants to do with like characters or whatever not making them talk or anything like that it's like I'll just follow his lead on that it doesn't really make any difference to me I'm just lost in George's world at that point but um the the kids in the beginning of the movie portraying Furiosa and like what or is that her sister or something that's her friend Valkyrie as seen in Mad Max Fury Road yeah I thought it was I thought it was cool knowing that it's a prequel to Fury Road I was like where the hell is this place this place would stick out like a sore thumb and would be like rated immediately anyways I don't know where they're hiding but yeah I was just uh I was just a little confused about like the geography because I was like this place six out like a sore thumb so I was wondering where that was but I don't know what do you guys think it's funny because it's like this sets it up in Australia for like I mean we always kind of knew but this has like the overhead shot of Australia to start the movie and zooms in on the green place or the place of abundance like they said I liked it I thought like a lot of the sniper shit with her mom like chasing her down was like a really compelling action piece I it's a piece as far as like the visual stuff I honestly don't know if I like the high frame rate shit like some of that is a bit the high frame rate stuff is what I'm yeah I'm kind of referring to it's like a bit looks a little weird yeah it is but I don't know it's I don't know how necessary it was to see even this story be told and I think at times this movie doesn't know if it's like is this movie really about Furiosa or is it about Chris Hemsworth you know so I don't know Corey did you did you like the young Furiosa like I said it's a huge is 45 minutes 50 minutes for this movie yeah Furiosa you know the place of abundance I really like when one of the war boys is like abundance what's that he's like stuff lots of stuff plethora of quantity what's that what's quantity he's like so stupid with an arrow in his head like a cartoon character yeah am I in Valhalla what's the Hall of the slain paradise for dead heroes good for you we're looking for a place of abundance what's abundance abundance pleasurefulness having a copious quantity of something what's kovus quantity a lot of stuff a lot of good stuff the citadel what it out is where I was burned it's got everything a humongous amount of fresh water and green stuff mountains approaches and veggies and water the where would one find the citadel that way maybe that's good stuff right there young Furiosa looks like young Willow for Willow fans out there she dresses and has a same haircut or you might even say looks like kind of like a hobbit right like with like dirty smelly hairy feet but also like the hair bob kind of thing and the just like that weird like loose fitting blue shirt she wears at the beginning to the point that's like think the first frame of the trailer for this movie and I saw that and I was like is this a fucking other willow movie like that was the first time I had because I saw the trailer in theaters I didn't look it up on YouTube so anyway young Furiosa stuff I think the beginning of this is really good with the mom chasing down the marauders as they are and kind of you know hunting them down and the attempted rescue and the ultimate demise of the mother the introduction of Hemsworth who doesn't have the crazy accent at the beginning he just has Chris Hemsworth accent but also the accents are yeah they're a little inconsistent because young Furiosa has an Australian accent and grown Furiosa sounds like Charlize Theron but I love the beginning of this and you know we get a lot of the greatness of the Mad Max World which is the aesthetic not just like the color palette or the kind of unique cinematography that goes along with Fury Road with the very center of frame things but like the costume design and the props are incredible as always it's always got the sense of like cobbled together miss right like that is the post-apocalyptic wasteland like you think about the road warrior there's motherfuckers walking around in like hockey masks and stuff right and this it's like I don't know it's like whatever they kind of had on hand and there's like an old guy who's got like a bunch of like like learnings from the past tattooed on him or something right like it's just he's got sleeves yeah yeah exactly it's almost like a mentat which by the way I haven't seen a lot of movies and theaters this year but a shocking percentage of them have been set in like a sandy duney environment like sand so hot sand so hot right now yeah yeah he's got like the old guy with all the the hidden knowledge tattooed on him he's got like do not microwave pop tarts for more than 90 seconds in the microwave yeah pop tarts what I am all the most all the most important stuff to remember that was good core like I has to like be with like a fucking immediate google search for any question Chris Hemsworth has like on the spot and I love it he's just fucking lying like all those tattoos are just bullshit he's just looking down it's like Chinese characters that don't actually mean anything he's like that's the only way he's stayed alive is just pretending he's looking at looking at facts on his arm make yourself useful oh yeah sad Ted sad tears and happy tears stays different definitely like sir for sure that's definitely a real thing that used to be known I don't know dementus pretty classic Mad Max villain I think like I I know you guys said it's like accents all over the place he seems to be like the main character of the movie in a lot of ways but I like that I don't know he's not just like this he is belligerent at times but he's got this like weird sweet spot for Furiosa and in like in many ways he seems to almost be this product of like the trauma of losing his kids now granted like given the opportunity to be like alright see a Furiosa like he doesn't really give a shit but I was a little bit worried when I first saw the trailer and heard the ladies and gentlemen start your engines but once it got going I thought it was pretty great I was worried seeing the nose I think the nose looks terrible and do they lose it like halfway through the movie he looks normal for like most of this movie but I thought the nose look terrible but I think this is like Hemsworth's best movie I think he does awesome in this mm-hmm I love the character I like the accent he's trying to do he's like really going for it in this and he looks awesome I love the visual of his cape throughout the movie getting darker and redder as he's just losing it more I thought it was awesome I thought I loved it all of it his his vehicle was sick too very unique I love the motorcycle chariot yeah awesome that's the kind of shit that like it is so specific to these movies like this these designs that they come up with it's so awesome I agree that he's really great in this movie he's definitely a standout you know I I like him's worth a lot but you might be right Mikey I don't know if he's in a lot of great movies you know he does the classic Thor which is awesome you know we all love him for that and some of those Marvel movies are really great some of them not so much but I don't know of any movies that he's done that top this yeah I heard he's like pretty decent in black hat which is like that hacker movie that he did probably ten years ago but I haven't seen it but I hear he's like actually trying in that movie yeah he was in some movies that like that that I didn't see around that time like black hat and rush you have it in the woods and red dawn oh rush is good I like rush bad times that I royale if you've seen that yeah I did like him in that it's kind of similar energy I guess mm-hmm at least in the first introduction of him in this movie mm-hmm this movie especially I think Corey maybe keep me honest way more than like the early Mel Gibson Mad Maxes but even more so than Fury Road this movie will just do shit that serves virtually no narrative purpose other than to look cool on screen especially with Dementis Chris Hemsworth like at one point one of his motorcycle dudes two of which are named like Harley and Davidson by the way but like one just like shoots a flare into the ground and like Chris Hemsworth that comes out of that red just looking awesome and there's another one once Trios is growing up a little bit to become Anya Taylor Joy and it's like a starry dream sequence almost and it's like him with his arms extended and like glasses on and like a trippy like oh yeah starry background there's definitely some artistry at play here right yeah which is probably why this movie is two and a half hours right because it's gotten some shots like that you know at least George Miller can make a movie that's his own vision mm-hmm you got to appreciate that you know not many directors get to do that but yeah I don't know if those those touches necessarily help anything I do like to see him though got to say the grow up for Furios like I said it takes an hour literally an hour of the student half hour movie to get to this point but I feel you know kind of like a kinship with Anya Taylor Joy because one of the first movies we ever did for this podcast was the Vavitch which was her first movie and it's like I think Stevie and I might be making this up because I haven't listened that episode a long time but I think Stevie and I said like she was awesome in that movie Mikey she's no Charlize Theron but did you like her as Furios taking on this role I gotta say ever since I was announced that Charlize was not gonna be in this movie I was pretty worried about this movie and that was years ago so like ever since that was announced I've just been so worried about this movie and finally seeing it I think Anya Taylor Joy does a great job granted I still don't think she's Charlize I don't think anybody can be Charlize I think Charlize is definitely in one of my top five actresses I love her so much and just about everything she does so for Anya to come in here and just have very minimal lines and still kind of pull it off in her own way I think is really cool but yeah it was I was disappointed to hear so many years ago that Charlize wasn't gonna be in it I thought she did the voice like great of Furiosa which is strangely like an American accent kind of in the midst of all these Australians that she grew up around but you know she has the American accent she sounds like Furiosa what are you doing is there a problem you drive to be a I drive the war week not today the day you drive this year she looks nothing like Furiosa though like does not look like her at all I think in a lot of movies you can forgive that right you can you can say okay well you know they're gonna cast someone else they're gonna look different you just got to kind of mentally set that aside but she also doesn't have the physique of Furiosa you know tough she's kind of like a I don't want to say she's like buff but you know she's she's semi buff at least she seems at least six inches taller than this version of Furiosa at least 20 pounds of muscle too yeah and Charlize's you know she's no stranger to like big action scenes she has a great couple in atomic blonde you know she's she's powerful in a way that Anya Taylor Joy is not powerful that is like an aspect of this movie they have a really hard time squaring because for it to be the most canonically you know like lore synced mad max movie ever made then to not bring back two of the main actors from what was like the one of if not the greatest action movies ever made it just seemed so weird like was there any actual reason to to not bring back Charlize yeah was there any like reason that was given or was it just she had such a bad time on the last one she didn't want to do this I mean they they all had a bad time on the last one apparently there was you know some level of feuding with her and Tom Hardy I don't know how extensive that was or if it's overblown I feel like those kind of stories are usually undersold right because the actors they don't want to go out and bad mouth each other or their directors so I think when you do hear something like that it's usually being undersold but it was a very hard movie for them to make Fury Road right mmm like famously the script was super minimal it was super hot they would do a car scene I was just dust everywhere and they had to like wait for it to settle they were just like in the heat they had no idea if it was going to be good and I'm sure you know that misery compounded and at some point they were like this movie is not going to be good this is just chaos we're just filming chaos but to make an action movie that's like one the most Oscars and like could have easily won best picture and is acclaimed as like one of the best action movies ever made it's like why not just run it back it would be so amazing but caught it with any side characters that you particularly liked yeah I'd like us to talk about side characters actually because there are some pretty great ones some of them we see in Fury Road right like the organic mechanic yep who doesn't he doesn't do a lot but I just love that fucking guy like the good name organic mechanic all things therapeutic yeah that guy's great we kind of see how he ends up with a Morton Joe he's really cool but also like the Morton Joe sons we get to see them you know we know Richtus Erectus from Fury Road the big guy and then we also get to see a more mutated insane son that I don't think we see in Fury Road we don't actually and that's scrotus great names by the way you know for these guys very phallic scrotus the whole way home I was talking about man Walton Goggins is just everywhere right now like I can't believe he was in this movie I didn't even hear that only later than always oh fuck that wasn't him it looks just like him like I don't know no I think he's the war boy that is Nux's friend in Fury Road okay yeah but I know more known from the X-Men prequels he's young striker there's a lot of actors that play striker but he's young striker but I want to actually talk about Richtus because the things that this movie does for the characters isn't always isn't always beneficial I think but I think it is with Richtus like what I mean by that is as a prequel I don't think it helps me flesh out the world of Fury Road in any real way with some small exceptions so Richtus we find out that he's a fucking diddler so this guy is even more hateable now and I think that's like a small character touch that actually works making him a fucking weird creep because in Fury Road you're like what is with this guy is he just like a big dumb goof but no he's like fucking sick in the head he's a doctor disrespect of the wasteland that cancel Richtus you do something just looking just looking around what for nothing no don't lie to me you're out to something what is it no what are you doing in it I told myself someone running running away but it was just a dream an annoying dream there's also a evil pappy baby character who's he's trying to like launch the bombing knocker which is like one of the best set pieces I would say probably the best set piece of the whole movie actually but I felt so sad when he dies you know there's like that one shot of him getting high amongst all the cabbages and then he gets shot like I was so bummed the pappy baby war boy yeah yeah he looks just like the evil pappy baby from Passion of the Christ which by the way when I saw him in the trailer I'm like oh Jesus this movie is going to be terrible yeah it looks bad it looks so bad well there's another side character associated with the bobby knocker there isn't it the Octoboss he was pretty cool is he the one though no he's not the one that was flying on the paratrooper thing was he he's there from the motorcycle to the the the air propeller type thing so it's like it's a pack of dementuses minions who have gone rogue right and we see the guy with the big octopus glider oh yeah yeah that is sick that that guy is pretty cool he's another cool side character if for nothing else than his aesthetic that's the guy with the big horns mm-hmm yeah the big horn helmet so this is a guy with like the big wig you know with one eye this is a guy with the big horns you know some of these henchmen just like have like these distinctive cool looks in classic Mad Max fashion yeah you think of road warrior or even beyond Thunderdome there's like the short guy and beyond Thunderdome that's bald but he has like the geisha head like hanging above him with the long hair so when I think of that guy I think of long hair even though he's bald like these characters have these like I don't know these cool looks I even told my wife if you know if we survived an apocalypse and we were living in some of the post-apocalyptic wasteland I would wear the craziest shit like I just want an excuse to wear like football shoulder pads or something you know football shoulder pads like a Michael Myers mask like a moon boots yeah of the wasteland that warrig you talked about is fucking sick though it was sad to see it go obviously we don't see it in fury road right not the same warrig there's a new one by that time but this one is so fucking tricked out dude like they are ready for anything like this and like when you first see it in battle you keep thinking fuck it's gonna get taken out please don't and it doesn't in that first battle thank God but what do you guys call that shovel attachment on the back or there's like a crane arm of some kind on the warrig oh yeah the warboys are controlling mm-hmm I love that fucking thing that's such a great idea mm-hmm dude I just love like the the balmy knocker thing I guess like a big fan of you know presumably like metal balls that are spinning around and like the suction of it is like what pulls in the octo glider thing that's got this octo glider thing behind it which brings us to pray a story in Jack I don't know how you say his name Pretorian Jack Pretorian Jack dude this guy fucking rules first of all he has the most mad max shot of the whole movie after he drives that war warrig away and is walking up the road back towards Furiosa very mad max shot a hundred percent which I don't know I haven't seen this guy in like anything else apparently he played Orson Welles in make in dank yeah but I he's getting that but I fucking love oh I love him only God forgives he's the he's the he's a peto brother who gets murdered and only God forgives that's a Ryan Gosling movie so goddamn didler other than this yeah I don't know him from anything so I thought he did an awesome job very uh very like solid snake coated or something he looks very cool did you hear what Kojima said right that he looks just like snake or whatever that he wants him to play solid snake in a live action adaptation I don't know he's not asked to do a lot right but there's one um action set piece I think at uh Gastown I believe where he's just like shooting people and it's like a pretty long extended cut it's pretty cool I mean he's like mad max yeah right he's the mad max standard essentially and there's like almost something that kind of like clicks in your mind with is this why Furiosa trusts mad max like you know but it doesn't really play out narratively speaking in Fury Road that way like there's no like moment of recognition or you know anything like that so it's just I think he's good in the movie and he's cool but he's like the mad max stand in and me personally I never wanted a Furiosa movie I wanted another mad max movie set somewhere else in the wasteland that's a completely different story because as cool as Fury Road is it's almost defeats like it defeats like the point of these mad max movies to come back here like we know everything about like these little towns we know there's Gastown and the bullet farm and the citadel and but now we know how the economy works the trade you know how they tax each other what are the rates cabbages for gas for bullets can we get that please is there gonna be a tariff put in place all good prequels revolve around politics and taxes apparently that's what we've learned but you know I'm with you I just why couldn't this have just been a very similar story and that is mad max and mad max just kind of has a side geek at this point right like I don't know I feel like a dead record at some or like a broken record at some point but it's like I don't want to hear I don't want like I don't want cannon I don't want lore I don't give a shit about any of that kind of stuff like just make another movie and make that a mad max who falls in love with the woman well just thinking of like how George has titled these movies you get the first like for all mad max and then we're switching up the focus and following Furioso why I mean Furios is not mentioned at all in the other movies other than Fury Road why why change the formula now why follow this other character she's not throughout the entire series why I don't know it's just a weird change of focus when I mean Fury Road brought back the mad max franchise you think you'd follow max again for one more yeah absolutely insane action adventure movie that's the momentum that I think you know should have maintained even if the movie is you know almost ten years later you know I'm sure these movies don't take a long time and especially with this director you know I mean they do take a long time to make so yeah I agree like keep the momentum of a new mad max story bring back Tom Hardy do something else because you know again there's great stuff in this movie but the movie is unnecessary I'm gonna tell you guys I had this movie already in my head when I watched Fury Road like I assumed almost everything that happens here in terms of the major story points and that's what I think I think you were like touching on this earlier but that's my biggest problem it's like there's a difference between world building and lore and I fucking hate lore because lore is like explaining why a thing is the way it is in many senses right like it's again to use the word saga like solo well I guess that was a Star Wars story not a Star Wars saga but like I don't need to know why Han Solo's last name's solo like that's lore but in the first mad max like we barely see bullet town right like we maybe get a glimpse of it and it's like that's all you need to know like I don't need to know why a Morton Joe's the head of the Citadel it's enough like my brain can fill in the gaps like I have a very imaginative brain like just give me a little bit nothing what Mad Max Fury Road did so well was the world building so it's like it's a little disappointing Mikey do you ever play the video game by the way I saw a lot of people talking about the video game in relation to this which I have no context for no I've never played it I've seen clips and it looks awesome looks really cool and I heard it's really good too as far as movie I mean it's not a movie tie in game but it's a game based on a movie and I heard it's pretty good it's pretty well loved by everybody who's not named George Miller ironically we just like yeah I've heard that too it's apparently pretty lower-heavy though well I don't like that Corey we're then eat we talked about a couple but any let's stay positive for a little bit any set pieces that you really liked I think this movie does it really well we talked about a couple but anyone you want to talk about sit out to you well of course the first major war rig scene and some of the key points in that are like they do some different things with trying to take the war rig like when they have like these gliders right they got these guys on like the parachutes that are like being launched into the air and pulled by a motorcycle to come down and attack the war rig I think that's pretty cool so cool it's very reminiscent to Fury Road where they have like the pole guys that are on the swinging poles yeah like that's kind of a neat tactic but these other guys they have like their own way they do things I think the introduction of those things is really good that being said sometimes the effects in this movie look really fucking bad yeah and that is annoying because I don't really get that when I come out of Fury Road CGI flames this movie are terrible consistently bad and more than one scene look fake and terrible as shit which is so disappointing because that's why I love about Fury Road I'm sure there's CGI right like it's been a little business I've seen it but it felt so practical walking away from that and even in the trailer in this it's like there was some iffy CGI and yeah the flames still stuck out like laughably laugh it's just like a conversation between Chris Hemsworth and Anya Taylor-Joy Dementis and Furiosa I really don't know if this movie is trying to say anything smart or beyond like what it is but it's kind of like this weird vengeance theme happening right and that's like so much of what Dementis is drawn by and like saying like hey we're the same basically and you know Furiosa is hitting him so hard with the gun at one point he is like a seizure but it's not what kills him like I don't know I really liked that uh that's that piece the aspect I liked that was like the question of how did she kill him and it's kind of you know left open for interpretation because someone is kind of telling this story to someone else right there's like a narrator and that is very Mad Max right it's like at the end of the day it's like so that's this story some say it ended like this some say it ended like this right because the Mad Max world is just a world of myths there are those who prefer that she did more than shoot him they claim that she ended him in ways more fitting they tell of righteous perversities and witty mutilations but this is the truth whispered to me by Furiosa herself deep in the citadel high up in the hydroponic gardens there is a tree unlike any other it's soil is human it's nutrients human maggots did riding his necrotic fish it was an echo growing out of a living being obviously the all the action sequences amazing but there's other scenes where like people are getting tortured or killed where you don't see like the actual final moment of violence is just kind of implied like we saw a guy get pulled apart by like five different motorcycles but we only see like the cloud of dust and like the motorcycles pulling away from each other and the mom how she dies strung up and this Praetorian Jack guy he gets a brutal murder and it's like not even applied if he dies I mean we just kind of assume but he's just like dragged on his face and dogs chasing him and it just kind of like fades off into the black and Furiosa is like gone with her arm hanging there so we kind of never see Jack again just how they kind of avoid that final scene of violence for a lot of these characters even though it's a super violent movie which is like a pretty wild end game if what is like presented to us is true within the Canada movie like he has a tree growing out of his vega of wardenson region basically right like she she put that nut in his penis and it sprouted that's where it led to to believe I guess so it looks like it has to affect the taste of the fruit right like it's not gonna taste like a normal peach only extra flavor jerky flavor I want to talk about one guy real quick because it's little stuff like this that make a movie like this work for me there's a guy called smeg do you guys remember smeg who is he again he is one of lord dementuses henchmen he is the guy that like when dementus confronts a morton joe for the first time he has like the bomb configuration and he's like holding the wires and he's just like this little like weasily wasteland guy and he fits so perfect in this world just a lot of it is just his mannerisms he doesn't say a lot like he looks over at a morton joe and he gives like a nervous smile and then he goes to like punching the key for the bomb and like he kind of like looks back and he puts his hand over it real quick that dude is absolutely perfect in a movie like this very like old school mad max yeah he like gets on his knees when dementuses try and like convert the war boys to his cause like he's like going crazy in the background he's the one who picks the war boy right who ends up yeah going himself yeah he's really really good too also I forget his name is it the people you know but the guy who has like the nipple piercings who's constantly fidgeting with him he's got like yeah that's the people later the people he's from the last movie but for some reason like his fixation on his own nipples just seems so much more prominent in this one like to the point where when dementus gets his nipples ripped off he like cringes like he's so taken aback by someone losing their nipples like it really affects him deeply to see with any negative points cori that you wanted to bring up because it's not a perfect movie but you said that there were elements of this movie that you wanted to to get into that weren't necessarily positive i thought we've been very positive so far somewhat right it's like how i feel about this movie like there's good and bad in this movie and i think the good is really good and the bad isn't that bad it's just kind of small stuff it's a lot of small stuff um on you taylor joy as furiosa when she's grown furiosa she had she somehow disguised herself for years as a boy but she's pretty cute i mean she that boy is cute yeah i know like she when we first see her as grown furiosa like she she doesn't look like a boy at all right when you're a little kid you can kind of get by with that you can't really tell if it's a boy or a girl right just kind of go based on the hair length i never seen a boy with such feminine far apart eyes before yeah the eyes right and they're like super pretty like the eyes are super like piercing like you know to the point where i but the only one that kind of like recognizes her and only for a moment is old rictus erectus mmm but i mean you look at her standing next to all these people and she is tiny dude mmm which is like again so not the body build of charlie's right like charlie like how tall is charlie's to run like i'm gonna look this up she's got to be at least a foot taller five eight or something i don't know uh i would say the worst parts of this movie are certainly the bad cgi like kora was mentioning there are some scenes that are just not very good looking or look like the not finished um i wonder if that'll get fixed before it gets to the blu ray uh but yeah there's some stuff that just just didn't look good i think the blu ray's out already yeah it came out it's streaming it did not do what great at the box office i think it broke even on its reported budget which means it probably lost quite a bit of money budget was 168 million and gross worldwide was 168 650 listen to these heights boys this is interesting so on your taylor joy five eight tom hardy five nine charlie's tharon five ten all within two inches of each other i find that interesting that is very interesting surprising that's not how this movie this movie reads i know it must be a muscle mass thing with on your taylor joy she's got those tiny arms dude and she she does slouch a lot too she needs better posture yeah i agree uh i will say other than like the whole lore and all of that like one thing i found super weird mikey i don't know if you caught this remember this but you know the song like oh lay oh lay oh lay oh lay i got one point they're singing a martin joe a martin martin you know like that was wild that was felt too yeah that was weird they they get into into the white stripes chant that they always do at football games happy what do you think of a new immortal joe recast uh fine i don't know well i thought he plays two people doesn't he he also plays the guy with one eye at the beginning if you know what i'm talking about um like it the mentuses camp initially i didn't really even notice to be honest i didn't notice i you could have fooled me uh i thought his brother who was the initial leader of uh gas town he seemed like his brother and like it made sense of my brain like i didn't even need the movie to explicitly tell me um but yeah i was fine with it did you uh could you tell it was a different martin joe cori i think he looked great didn't sound as good um didn't quite have the the same like uh i don't know captivating memorable voice if it's like almost there but it's a kind of a different version of it but in terms of sounds i think the the music in this is very fury road and i think it's it's better for it like they they didn't go with a super distinct style of music like that made it remarkably different like give the other mad max movies the music is very different than fury road this one is very fury road and i think it fits well and it sounds cool spending it gets you kind of pumped at the very beginning you know those opening credits with that music going you're you're like you're kind of brought back yeah it had been a long time like what is it 2015 fury road came out it's 10 years that's a significant amount of time in between sequels yeah but i've seen it a lot since then i've seen it in theaters multiple times since then too i think i saw it twice then and twice since including the black and chrome edition which is kind of really cool to see which i haven't seen that yet i i don't know man i know it's cool and steve says it's awesome and i know they did it with probably godzilla minus one two i just i don't really understand the whole point of that trend like it feels very weird to me like i'd rather i'd rather like to release the color version in theaters like i'll see it again i promise the black and chrome thing that's what he originally wanted to do but obviously you know the movie is fury road is like so prominent with its use of color like it's it's so bright and sharp that it the color version i think is necessary and like it's the definitive but you know if you've seen the movie a few times watching the black and chrome it's it's very cool to kind of see how they how they still make it work and how you know it kind of gives a slightly different feel to it i took someone to see the black and chrome version in theaters and it was their first time seeing fury road and they said they don't want to see it any other way oh damn oh yeah see that makes yeah i guess this one pulled it off but like it felt like logan did it and there were just a bunch of movies like in a short period of time that became a way to make money off of a movie not saying it was for for this i forgot logan did that uh yeah i didn't even know that yeah what kind of x-men fan am i cool what do you guys want to see the franchise go because i feel like george miller is an old man he's not a young man he he's like what 82 i think and it's really it is he is very old so it's he was born in 1945 the way this is tight well yeah that's like spielberg pretty weird there there are a lot of like directors lucas copa they're all born between like 44 and like 46 or something no or damn all the greats do you think they can hand this franchise off to someone like can that be done like where do we go from here another time hardy mad max dementis a mad max saga no like a hpo show like how do we go maybe not that uh obviously the the thing that people want i think is pretty clear right the next tom hardy mad max story somewhere else new people new place that's it that's the formula man keep it going mm-hmm just reset no don't need the lore no bullet town no gas town no said adult we've moved on from from all that i guess a good idea yeah it though there's an have to be any connection to fury road whatsoever in my opinion right they could do what they did with like beyond thunderdome where they had like the gyrocopter pilot and he was just kind of like they're hanging around they could have something like that maybe you know someone's hanging around like you see like one of uh immortal joe's wives like in the town like running a shop or something than mad max visits but like you know it doesn't have to be connected i don't think i don't think this series benefits from like like you said lore are very specific connective threads you know like direct sequels it's not what these are tina terra still alive she died though in the movie i think that's awful it's it's a new tina terra it's a new thunderdome uh you guys have any other final thoughts uh or mike anywhere you want to see their franchise co i should say uh i mean i think we'll be lucky to see any more of this franchise uh you you sons of bitches out there who didn't get to the theater to watch this uh you've damn george miller and you've damn this franchise to hell i don't think there's any chance we get another movie just because of how much money it didn't make it didn't i mean there's nothing going on that weekend and it still didn't make money it's not good i i don't think it'll get made plus george is very old uh these movies are obviously very hard to get done um i wouldn't want to see it turn into a tv show i don't think that is the right way to go about it it would definitely have to be a new max movie like you guys said but man there's just so much working against that right now i don't you guys made hideo kajima watch this movie ten times in theaters to get to get uh the box office up uh he's doing his damnedest but nobody nobody saw this shit man hey i hit it twice in theaters myself i'm supporting the cause there you go i bought it unvod the day it came out and saw it in theaters um i don't know my heart tells me it's going to be like nicolas holds back story and they're going to ground the franchise in this canon forever and ever like i hope not i hope we get a new mad max with time hardy in a new place but we'll see any any other fight i think that would only happen if that's what george miller wants and i'm hoping that you know this was kind of just a one-off for him because you know he he makes the movies that he wants with these mad max movies love him or hate him this is what he wanted he wanted this story he wasn't kind of pressured into it or anything this was completely up to him but sometimes old men sell the rights to their franchises and then back end of the complaints this is true where it goes it's true yeah give it to mal to direct no no the passion of max don't do that yeah i wonder what kind of themes will be in that movie pappy oh boy dude crossover event for the evil pappy baby it's going to be the same one from passion in this teaming up uh you guys are you guys here for yesterday? i'll go first hard yes definitely hard yes the thing is though my cousin said it best as we were leaving the movie theater and he said i would still rather watch fury road ten times than watch this another one which really hits home and like kind of a sad way like don't get me wrong this is a great movie in and of itself a lot of really memorable sequences especially you know the first couple ones with the rig and then a gas down and even like the opening chase with the snipers like three or four all-time all-time action set pieces but this is like a two and a half hour movie and a lot of its way down and lore and i don't really know what it's trying to say with like dementis and vengeance and where it lands and is penis becoming a peach tree like i'm sure that means something but you know i don't know the first one's just so relentless i like it a lot more uh that being said still a hard guess still one of the best movies and times i've had the movie theater uh this year and um yeah i love george miller man what a weird career like because i we had babe two pig in the big city on vhs and i fucking love that movie i loved it way more than the first babe and now it's you know literally 20 years later 30 years later and i'm watching george miller man max movie again in theaters maybe for the last time um so for that let me give it a hard yes mikey uh yeah it's a hard yes uh i think it's a great prequel um i think the reason it might work and might also not work is how inconsequential it is it doesn't give us like any info that we can't already infer from fury road uh it seems like it's not like breaking any huge piece of the puzzle of the mad max lore or anything that we can't just infer from everything we see and know from the other movies um so maybe that's why it works is because it's not exactly necessary it's just awesome looking and maybe that's why it just works it's i mean you don't got to watch it for an info dump of lore or anything like that um but uh yeah i just wish more people saw it so we might get a chance to see maybe one more movie uh before george dies uh he's pretty old um but i like the cast i i was uh wary for years without charlie's doing this movie but i needed a great job chris was amazing i thought he kind of stole the show it really does seem like chris's movie so maybe it's just a little unfocused in that regard uh but yeah i think it's one of the best prequels i don't know anything else off the top of my head that would top this as far as prequels go very good movie hard yes that does make me kind of wish it was just dementis like just his movie why do we even need puriosa in this like she can be a side character who comes in but i feel like that would been play core last but not least corey yeah dementis is pretty cool this dude is i wrote down dementis the inept warlord because he is not really good at what he does which is cool to see right not everyone's an immortal not everyone has like the respect and it has the ability to like maintain an organization in the same way and he doesn't operate the same way morton joe is chris hemsworth pulls that off dementis pretty fucking sweet even though he's like stupid at times i think that also works for him it works his benefit i do have a a final thought that i forgot to mention and that is that hemsworth's wife is in this movie her name is elsa petake probably pronouncing that wrong like helga you guys probably know her from the fast and furious movies she played elena who was a vindiesel side piece you know he had a kid with her in that franchise that's his wife yeah the brazil chick that's hemsworth's wife she's in this movie in the very beginning she's one of the people at the green place that joins puriosa's mom for a little bit but she also plays a completely different character later on you guys probably remember that there's a woman that i guess tries out for dementis' group and she has like a fucked up face that's her too oh shit oh yeah so yeah just kind of an interesting thing hemsworth wife was in this movie and she looks insane for most of the time she's in this movie you know she's one of these like wasteland ghouls that's all fucked up and mangled um this movie is no fury road and i cannot help but can pair it to fury road which is one of the greatest action movies ever made it's kind of sad that when a movie that good comes out because you know the next step is downward and marvel had the same problem with avengers infinity war slash end game the next step is down unfortunately because you reach the top uh fury road is always going to be like one of the greats to a lot of people i think really hard to top that so the fact that they made a good movie i think is is great but i got to compare it and it's just not as good and you know your friend was right i would rather watch free road any day in fact the end credits of this movie start with uh glimpses of fury road scenes from that movie and maybe not a good way to end because i kept thinking how much better fury road is watching that even the shots that they show look better than this movie which you know they're just kind of hitting some bullet points of the story like where it goes but that's those truck scenes and stuff and like immortal's face it all looks a little bit better which is unfortunate like i said fury road also maintains this very distinct sense of urgency yeah throughout the whole movie that this movie never has uh you know i know if you're gonna say safe i know she's gonna lose an arm and i kind of know what's gonna happen that's the prequel syndrome right there that's the problem with their prequel right you know ultimately where the character ends up so it's really about the people around them and what happens to them which some of them are good some of them are you know this movie has more style than i think narrative substance when the action scenes are good they're really fucking good and you got to respect it for that it does skip around sometimes in its time frame and it skips some things that i'm like okay this is gonna be epic and it kind of just brushes right past it like the 40-day wasteland war we don't really see a lot of that we kind of just see like Furiosa behind the scenes she's getting healthy again and then she takes a car to go take out dementes it's like okay well i guess that's fine the movie is good right it's just no fury road and that will always be how i remember this movie unfortunate so for me it's a yes but it's not the hardest yes in the world maybe someday it could just be like this nice appetizer for fury road right now granted it's a two and a half hour one but it's like i know i want to watch fury fury road on saturday maybe i'll like fall asleep to furiosa friday night just to get pumped like at some point like maybe that'll be the role it plays but i don't you know i don't know many times just as george miller would have won right yeah on my phone fall asleep to it uh i do have a quick trivia if you guys want to play it's not closest to if you have time uh no way yeah i don't believe it not closest to uh uh this is called slang or city and i'm going to papi read a word is either an australian slang for a thing or an australian city and uh there's not that many we'll just go through these real quick and see who gets the the better score i randomize the order so cori you'll go first the word is mazi m of zz i e mazi is that an australian city or australian slang word i'm going to say it's an australian slang word do you have a guess on what that word means um mozzarella sticks that it could it could be something like that um or like a maserati um but no i i don't know exactly a slang for mosquito so you are correct you get a point mikey your word is iron knob iron space k-n-o-b iron knob um i'm going to say slang what do you think that and yeah it means uh uh slang for interaction it's like really good it's a city unfortunately there are people oh wow cori banana banana ah that's got to be a city that's correct it's a city mikey banana yeah banana you ever been there uh mikey makas m makas cca apostrophe s uh that's slang that's for like marxons or flip flops right i know what it is what is it cori mcdonald that's correct mcdonald's right right right right that's correct cori hubby bong city correct mikey's stubby uh slang slang for stubby oh um chance um no idea i don't know unfortunately that is the city uh wow where do you live come by chance yep i yeah i do but where do you live uh cori humpty do city man cori is good at this game mikey you just a couple more snag s-n-a-g snag uh that is slang for um snag sounds dirty i'm gonna say i'm gonna say snag is slang for uh a dirty man i don't know uh it is uh slang but it's slang for listen to a lot of australian podcasts so i have that going for me papi hmm um i really like australian slang um i'll ask you a slang word and see if you know what it means okay how about that yeah bogan bogan um freaking out spazzin out no it's like their word for redneck oh and aussie got the bogans uh here's another one you can tell me this one might be easier servo servo is that like uh a racial epithet of like someone from syrbia like that region no it's the s-e-r-v oh i don't know it means gas station oh yeah it makes sense service station they call them but servo guzzoline yeah in australia they always just like shortened something and it add o or a further slang so that's how i was able to tell i see i see yeah how many australian pods are you listening to like five whoa not even kidding just infatuated with the culture i enjoyed you guys being here thank you guys for those that showed up for the furiosa pod i've had a lot of fun potting with you guys yeah um i really want to do a podcast on other mad max movies but not the first one i guess my hot take is that of all the mad max movies the first one is the worst one and if you haven't seen any skip that one and then just go into the others some are definitely better than others but the first one i don't think it's i don't think it's necessary in any real way so that's it take it away spoiler man special
