"We are beef. The Canadian Kalasector prepares to gather for the annual Canadian beef industry conference this year in Saskatoon. This is Roeritz Canada and I'm Greg Lester amplifying Canadian agriculture." Dr. Scott Wright is the conference's chair. He says there are lots of opportunities to learn and contribute, covering topics from policy and economics to technology to animal management and welfare. There will also be a great opening tour. "The tour on the Monday openly is a chance to see some Saskatchewan agriculture. Get a feel for the research capacity that's floating around at the University of Saskatchewan, get onto some ranches. We get to go to a place called Black Fox, which is an incredible example of ingenuity and innovation from the Saskatchewan agriculture world, really taking it to the industry." Wright says one of the unique highlights of this year's conference is an ask the expert session, allowing attendees to engage directly with industry leaders and academics to get answers to some of their most pressing questions. "The whole community of expertise talking to you about what they know, this is an opportunity to ask me anything, to ask the experts. There are four parallel sessions that are going on with different groups of those experts. To give the attendees the opportunity to really step up, ask the questions that they don't get the answers to, really the opportunity for them to set the agenda and bring the information that they're most interested back out." Reflecting on those previous conferences, Wright underscored the importance of embracing youth and innovation as part of the agenda for this year's event. "To capture what the young folks are bringing forward, to make sure that openly some of us all great herds are stepping out of the way and not being in the way of those innovations moving forward, and it was a producer that kind of pulled me aside ever so gently and said, 'You know, there's some really interesting things going on. Who are the people that are going to do this next?' What are the perspectives of people coming in and that the new generation coming in with an entrepreneur, a panorial attitude that frankly some of us can only wish for?"
