welcome back to Money and Mental Peace. So have you ever gotten some of these emails? Like scholarship emails like we have this scholarship that's probably good to fit for you or you know try out these five for the month of July or whatnot and maybe it came after you did apply for one and now you're getting maybe a few or honestly so much spam it depends but are these even legit? Do you wonder if they're a scam? Have you heard of the online database scholarship owl or some other ones are like unigo.com or niche.com or scholarships.com basically and it's indicating like these are potentially for you but when you go look at them it might be kind of just so general that um would you even get them? So first of all the question is are they even legit is even a scam and then secondly is even worth your time honestly like because you want to get money for college but you don't want to waste your time and I have some answers for you. Here's my first answer always give them your social security number just kidding don't do that okay um if somebody asks for that it's a scam so but don't do that well if a scholarship asks for that sometimes you know other things in life need that. Basically short answer is scholarship owl legit yes based on the info I have so of course send me any new info you might have but is it worth your time and might you potentially get money from those scholarships? Maybe it just depends. Hey girl welcome to money and mental peace. Do you want to find scholarships and avoid student loans? You find yourself googling easy scholarships and how to pay for college. You feel overwhelmed with life in general that you can't even think about paying for next semester. Hey I'm Cara and in college I too was worried if I was good at money. I couldn't find scholarships that worked specifically for me and I didn't know how to get started while juggling homework and all the things but that changed through prayer in God's direction. I tested out of classes learned to budget and found those perfect scholarships and even had ten thousand dollars left over in the bank after graduation. At BTW my parents weren't able to help me financially either. If you're ready to find scholarships specific to you manage your money well and just stop being broke then grab your cold brew and TA89 because class is now in session. So if you are wanting to find scholarships for sure for sure for you I'm actually going to tell you real quick how I can help you do that. I have something that I call a scholarship strategy session where I go over your plans for college and the types of scholarships you might be looking for. I give a bit of advice on that and then we discuss potentially if you'd ever want to hire me. So the scholarship strategy session is free. We talk through everything but if you're interested in hiring me then I could find you up to thirty thousand dollars worth of potential scholarship money. Basically a list of scholarships that would be worth that much that you could apply for but the clincher is you know that you qualify for them because I will go over details about your life and your plans and vet the scholarships to make sure they work for you. This is the first step some people stop after just trying to find scholarships because they have to do with people that I don't know of a Italian descent and live in Alaska and like you're not. You're Irish in Connecticut I don't know but basically I go search and do that grunt work so you don't have to so you can focus on just shining for the scholarship judges and applying for these scholarships. Okay back into the episode so yeah I have looked on scholarship owl and other databases a lot because they have such a wide range of options and there's a lot that are very general that you can apply to them even for any major that you're in not always some are also quite specific that juxtaposition of both of those types of scholarship being on those websites does make it a good thing but it's a lot to sift through. For example if you are not sure what you want to study don't wait to look for scholarships until you're like sure on everything you could start getting money now then in that way it's great to go for these scholarships that are general and easier it's just like write like a hundred word mini essay and it's for any grade level and it's for any major sure the clincher is so even though it could be legit especially because they show usually and a lot of them what who's got these scholarships in the past just know that if they're general and they're easy they are probably more competitive because more people are going to apply to easy quick ones than the ones that take more time so that's where I say is it worth your time I'd say yes if you're not spending too much too much time on it but will you get them less of a chance because they're so general but again that doesn't mean don't apply for them just know that it you know it might not be worth hours upon hours of slaving over all the minute details to get them and apply to them now there are also some on their that are quite specific like minority students studying stem something in the stem field but more specifically I don't know like technology and artificial intelligence or something I've seen some kind of like that okay so that's way more specific unfortunately it doesn't exactly show this many people have applied for this so far so you can't always see the competitiveness of a scholarship in that regard but just the fact that there are so many people out in the world and less who are doing that exact specific thing you would probably have more of a chance to get those types of scholarships and so those are ones you could be applying for and so yeah they're legit based on the info I have looked into up to this exact date and point in time right now then which means I give myself you know freedom if in the future or something terrible happens with it but up until this point the details the stuff shown it seems legitimate however it just depends what do you want to put your time to you know do you want to I don't know do you want some that are exact very specific do you want to apply for more general scholarships that are more competitive but they tend to be easier and I am not trying to indicate one way or another to you it depends on your situation that's why scholarships are so specific or depending on situation of a person because it also then you go into like whoa wouldn't do you want them do buy I mean like you can't always decide when the scholarships out there do buy but I mean you can filter some buy due dates usually so like if you want money for this coming fall and it's currently you know the summer you're gonna want sooner rather than later scholarships so that you can get applying and get money but if you're not going to college until the following fall you have a chance to spread out and look at a variety of options and scholarships that's why I have this scholarship strategy session because I want to talk through it with you see what's worth your time worth your effort if we're looking for scholarships that are more general because you're not sure on everything yet or you've applied to all the very specific ones you've found or if we need to find really specific ones also do they need to do you need to potentially get money sooner rather than later sooner is great but also there's usually less options to look through because if I mean it makes sense if you don't mind applying for some that are due all throughout the year then there's just more options there's not a right or wrong answer it's just a what works with your situation so if you want to talk through what works in your specific situation come plan a scholarship strategy session with me you can head on over to calendly.com/moneyandmentalpiece I apologize I don't think I told you that link at the beginning of the episode it is calendly.com/moneyandmentalpiece and come sign up for a time to talk through what your strategy should be around scholarships and then if you'd like to hire me to find those exactly specific to you all right guys thanks so much have a great day bye hey girl i hope you enjoyed today's episode if so would you take 30 seconds and share it with a friend who wants to get scholarships and avoid student loans just like you okay now i'm off to hopefully play some ultimate frisbee i'll meet you back here in a few days for another episode bye
