Without further ado, here is your exclusive Patreon clip. It's so interesting. I think this marketing campaign should and would will be studied in the future because here's the thing. This marketing campaign started I want to say like almost six months ago. Like right when the year started. But it wasn't trailers. You know it was like you know a little viral videos things like that. They made a fake website. And I feel like we've seen that before. But the commitment the follow through is never there from some of these things. And this was I mean shit. This felt like kind of a callback to like the Blair witch project marketing days that time period. But I will say this is a tiny tangent. But I think that what we have to look forward next is the smile to marketing because I've already seen them make a fake social media account for the Naomi Scott character. Right. Yeah. I mean I'm all in on unconventional advertising. Even you know just to bring it back to long legs. One of the things that really impressed me is even when I saw the trailer. I still felt like I had no fucking idea what the movie was about. And that felt so refreshing. I agree. And I think what hurts this film. And not even just for me but overall is that you know yes. No one had an idea what this was going to be about. You know I'm granted we got a full trailer. So we kind of got the basic premise down. But they were previewing this film two months ago. Like starting with its May surprise premiere I think Beyond Fast. Oh my god. By the time you and I saw this we felt like every single person we knew had already watched it. Well it sucked because the marketing which did a really good job of I think not creating expectations in you. Other than this is going to be a creepy movie. Right. That was kind of destroyed at least for me by all of the word of mouth I kept seeing in the again two months leading up to this film's release. And so I think for a lot of people that have walked out saying like you know we'll talk about you know reception. He's like Joe how many times have we seen this right. Oh it wasn't that scary. It wasn't that disturbing. Like people that told me this lied to me you know it happens every time we get one of these like scariest movie ever made like things. Well that's the thing is you're immediately putting your film on a pedestal that's going to be very difficult for most audiences to hit when you say this is the scariest movie you've ever seen. This is the scariest movie of the year. Even something like this is the scariest movie of the summer to mean just sort of says oh can you really deliver on that even if it's a really good film. That's tough. And nevertheless it got people out. I mean just like elaborate a little bit on that box office. So yes it's the biggest opening we can ever for neon but it's also the biggest opening for a 2024 original horror film. It is one of the top 20 weekends for an independent film and according to neon is the best opening ever for an independent horror film beating previous record holder the woman in black 2 from 2015 which made 15 million opening weekend. Wow I'd be curious to see if somebody fact checks that but I'm curious to see how they're identifying independent. Independent. Exactly. Well a woman in black 2 would have been a hammer horror film. Right. Which is that independent? I mean who knows we don't need to quibble regardless these statistics are impressive. [Music]
