Ravenscourt: Chapter Two: Death's Door(072824)

Those who remember Ravenscourt can’t bare to speak its name, yet somehow they also can’t seem to forgive themselves enough to forget it... This is because I have received a letter from what I believe to be a delusional voice in the head of my former patient, Alicia. It refers to itself as ‘Boda’. The name of child would give to an imaginary friend or a pet. But I believe this creature walks on two legs. And is far more human than I once believed… Learn more about your ad choices. Because people are staring at us listening to these shows while we're in the theater. The following audio drama is rated PG-13, suggesting that children under the age of 13 should listen accompanied with an adult. Epic Productions presents Raven's Course, an original limited series podcast created by David Horgan. Chapter 2, Death Store. Eva lives in the walls of Raven's Court. The building still stands like a rotten tooth on the smiling horizon, looking over our beloved city. There is a reason the state and church refute ownership. A reason nothing grows there and a reason why no one goes there when it's dark. Today, the treatment center is run by ineffectual bureaucrats under the title of Orsee Ward at the City Hospital. This acronym is set to stand for Recovery Center, but only because those who remember Raven's Court can't bear to speak its name. We also can't forgive ourselves enough to forget it. I started smoking again, like you suggested. I don't remember telling you to do that. You said I should socialize with other patients, all they do is smoke. Smoke and wait. If I can't stick anything else in my mouth, I may as well put a cigarette in there. Oh, sorry. I'm glad to see your sense of humor is returning. Blue as it is. It's weird the things we ascribe colors to. Red is anger, sadness is blue, and orange is the color of madness. Says who? Some painter. Can I ask you a question? I thought we established our boundaries. Oh, it's not personal, just general. Okay, then. Washed color are the walls and corridors. White, cream. Yeah, cream, I think. It's strange, isn't it? If you try and remember details about this place, this specifics just slip away. Like, it doesn't want you to remember. I've taken so many wrong turns here, trying to avoid that girl in red, or started walking somewhere and then forgot where I was going and why it was going there. I thought it was the pills, but maybe it's something else. You think someone or something is taking your memories? No, that would be crazy. The walls were light green. I wrote it in my notes later that day. The strange thing is, I have a picture of my colleagues and me on my first day at Raven's Court. The walls of the corridors are cream in that photo. But the thing is, I don't ever remember seeing the painting crew during my whole time there. While there ever being a smell of fresh paint, come to think of it. In a place I worked in for over six years, I can't remember what it smelled like at all. I want to ask you about what you said at the end of our last session. About Boda. You said he wouldn't let you sleep. I was confused. When I first got here, I was falling apart, but the pills are helping. You're helping me, Doctor. I'm glad you're feeling more optimistic about your treatment. You were very upset. The people here aren't sick. We just think too much that our brains get overloaded with feelings. That's what Alex says. Who's Alex? He's my smoking buddy. He's real. He's got black hair with bits of gray, and he wears the greenhouse coat. He's always walking circles in the garden. I told him that he'd wear the ground down so much he'll end up in China. He is real. I've seen him. He's under Dr. Kremen, I believe. He's a bit older than you. Now, who's got the blue mind? Don't worry. We just smoke. I'm not Alex's type, if you know what I mean. I see. He's gay. I understand. It's a pity that you don't have Alex. I think you'd like him. Boda doesn't like him at all. Boda? Nothing. You need to be honest with me. Who is Boda? He said if I told anyone he'd hurt Alex. I think he's afraid of you. I promise. Nothing bad is going to happen. To you or to Alex. I didn't know that that was a promise I wouldn't be able to keep. As I said, I have received a letter from what I believed to be a delusional voice in the head of a former patient. It refers to itself as Boda. The name of child would give to an imaginary friend or a pet. The letter reads as follows. Dear Mr. Doctor, it's been a while since I last saw you. I bet your beard is long and grey. I miss my friend. Won't you come out and play? I hope you won't leave me too. Here are some jokes to make you stay. Doctor Doctor, what happened to the man who fell into the circular saw and had the whole left side of his body cut away? He's all right now. Doctor Doctor, I'm worried about my breathing. We'll soon put a stop to that. Doctor Doctor, I'm at that store. Don't worry. We'll soon pull you through. Your friend, Boda.
