Please consider joining Paul, Kyle, Mike, and the other wonderful people who support the show for as little as a dollar a month. This year's original 31-chapter story is called "Better Days." To hear it from the beginning, just go to Comedy Forecast, all one word with the number 4.com/2022. Now here's Chapter 8. Let's make a deal. Previously, Buzz Scoop Cracker Jack Thomas just happened to be listening at Cindy's office door while she and Detective Hart discussed an urgent matter. It seems that power and water issues in Midling Fair are being caused by the mysterious spheres used throughout the tunnels. Buzz offered to help solve the problem, however, what Cindy and Hart don't know is that Buzz has a hidden agenda. Well, of course they don't know. It wouldn't be a hidden agenda if everyone knew what it was. Buzz must deliver an incredible viral story to his boss or else he will be fired from the Midling Fair Courier Times Roman Bold Italic. As this chapter begins, Buzz claims he knows something that will help Cindy determine the location of the so-called "Waffle Batter Sphere." Hart thinks back, when we were investigating Brax Higgins, and by we, I mean mostly me, there was that article by some inferior journalist where he mentioned he ran into Romeo Sikes somewhere outside the valley back in 2020. We need to go talk to Higgins. I'll bet your reputation he knows something about this wiffle ball sphere. Waffle Batter. Whatever. Let's go. Slow down, Buzz. No one invited you. This investigation is on the low down. Like, Detective Hart's right. If anyone found out there was a golden sphere out there with strange powers, it could cause a panic. Even worse than the great leg warmer rebellion of '84. Like, yeah, Buzz, you have to promise that you won't, like, tell anyone. What if I were to report just a tiny bit of it? A scrap of news. I mean, this is a scoop. It might even be the scoopy of scoop I ever scooped. Dare I say, it might even be two scoops. Like, that sounds like a lot of like scoops. But, you have to promise. But, it'll typical Thomas. No sense of teamwork. Like, if you promise, then I'll give you the exclusive rights to, like, publish the story later. Exclusive? Like, no one else can break this story? Like, no one. Tempting indeed. Can I get it in writing? Like, you don't trust me? Buzz thinks. Cindy has never betrayed him or anyone else. He has to stay in the inner circle to get this whole story, and this may be the only way. Yeah, alright, but I need to get this whole story to my editor, Pronto. Like, us too, Mayor Rory only gave us, like, three days to, like, fix this. And let's pay a little visit to Brax Higgins. I'll bet he's enjoying himself there in prison. Meanwhile, at Studebaker Automobiles State Penitentiary, make that the "Radio Shack Battery of the Month" jail. But whatever its name, this is where we will find disgraced former Little Wickerbaskets executive, Brax Higgins. At the moment, he is attempting to rest in his bunk. His cellmate, Bad Note Billy, has decided that now would be a perfect time to practice the harmonica. But every single day, when I begin to play, my room begins to cry. How's it going in here, you two? Just great, Warden Shure, I have been practicing all day. Would you like to hear a song? No. Hahaha. Perhaps another time, Billy. I have so many things to do. We have another name change to deal with. Welcome to the Howard Johnson's clam-stripped slumber. Don't leave me alone with him, Shure, I can't take it. Yes. I knew they called him Bad Note Billy, but I had no idea it was this bad. Unfortunately, all our usable cells are full right now. I'm turning the others into a day spa for the entire prison population. Oh, it will be lovely with a salarion. You don't need a salarion. I need silence from him, otherwise I'll need a sanitarium. I'm not sure there's anything I can... Wait. Maybe I can help. I want to start a community cleanup program. It'll only pay 10 cents an hour, and I'm afraid you might get a bit dirty. For a break from this, I'll... I'll take it as long as I can bring my towel. Excellent. I'll make some phone calls. That's music to my ears. Why, thank you, Rumi. I appreciate it. I will dedicate this next number to you. What? No, Billy. I didn't ask you to do another... My friend, Brax, would like some more... And he looks kind of stressed... So I will sing all of the night... That's the stuff. Meanwhile, unaware that Cindy is in search of the waffle batter's fear, the citizens of vidling fair are growing restless. Water shortages and power cuts are increasing. Protesters have gathered outside Mayor Rory's office window. Big star town. Big star town. Mayor Rory, the protests out there are getting bigger. I know it's crazy, how can six people make that much noise? They are pretty loud. I'll close the window. Mr. Mayor, I think we need to consider the possibility that people will figure out their problems are tied to the tunnels under vidling fair. Uh-oh, if that happens, I might have trouble giving Cindy enough timey-wimey to find the waffle batter's fear. As crazy as that sounds. Yeah, you want to know it's really crazy? Yeah, there's no glass in these window frames. Yeah, but listen, I slide it open. Big star town. Big star town. Thank you all for committing to that bit. You're welcome. Can Cindy discover the location of the waffle batter's fear in time? Does Brax Higgins know something? Can Bad Note Billy ever learn to play the harmonica? For answers, be sure to listen to Chapter 9, Prison Bound and Determined. In this episode, the part of Cindy was played by Bonnie Kendredine.
